Hey tintacle, if it's not too much to ask, could you please give your steelbook covers the "complete motion picture" treatment? I'd like for these to become my definitive versions of the covers and that's the only thing I'd like to change...

Recording

I noticed that David E. Russo and Graeme Revell have contributed music to the series as well, but I don't know to what extent. I could be wrong, but I decided to label all seasons with "Music by Jeff Cardoni & Kevin Kiner".
Also, I made two alternates for season 3, since Caruso's face is so prominently featured and doesn't allow me to use the same cover layout as I did for the other seasons.
I also have an alternate for season 10 that says "music from the final season" rather than "music from the television series" like all the others do :)

This was per request for Recording. <--- I know you only asked for seasons 2, 3 & 4. Your cover examples were no good, to be honest, and once I found these matching posters, I just HAD to do ALL of them! :D

I'm really tempted to think you're pulling my leg, but okay. It's very easy:

You put this before something you want to wrap (without the white space in between):
[ SPOILER ]

And you put this behind it (again without the spaces):
[ /SPOILER ]

And then you get
this

If you change the word SPOILER with the word quote:

you get this

No, I think that depends from website to website? I mean imgur's code formatting is different from that of flickr, for example. But I saw in his links that he's tagging straight from a blogspot website, and not from an imaging website account.

Aaah, I'm in love with the Elder Scrolls series. I one day read a quote which said, Jeremy Soule's music is the musical equivalent of a healing potion. And it's so damn true! It's restoring my inner self.

Do you actually have all of those scores? I see some that I've never heard of before.

Also, very nice covers, but your kerning is all over the place....... just kidding ;)

Yep, i own them all. The bottom row shows unofficial releases, however. Mods, mostly, that come with their own, unique music. Which i find very cool in and of itself. And better yet, the music doesn't suck!

Hehe, one can never kern too perfectly. And i think i do need to fix the Skyrim logo, at least a little bit.

Perhaps the "music by" and "complete score" could be a bit bigger to improve readability but I like the cover :)
I especially like it because you shy away from the posters everyone used and are looking to do something new.

This is a pretty cool cover that you can perhaps use if you black out the text boxes and put other info in them? ->
Also this is a very nice picture but it obviously spoils things if you haven't seen the film yet -> http://www.movpins.com/big/MV5BMTAzMTg5NjY0MzheQTJeQWpwZ15BbWU3MDQwMzUyMDQ@._ V1_/james-cromwell-in-l.a.-confidential-%281997%29-large-picture.jpg

Can you maybe try one more version where your new cover meets the old logo? It's not as readable without the black and white 3D effect.
Same goes for the "cmps" text beneath it. Maybe put that in black or at least put a black stroke behind it? Just calling out some ideas :)

Also, don't want to jump the gun here, but are you perhaps going to release a complete version of it? I have this one (see below) and I can only guess that yours would be a more complete version? The one I have is missing the end credits (for example - might not even be the half of it).
There's a lot of alternates and unused cues but the score is only 54 minutes long. I don't remember there being that little music.

I would have said Joel McNeely for his Star Wars score, and even Indiana Jones chronicles.
That being said I love Giacchino, saying he's "somewhat talented" isn't very nice.

I agree with you, even though I can't say I really love Giacchino, but only some of his works (Alias, Super 8, Inside Out...). Usually I can't really "follow" his scores, or enjoy them completely. My ears are more Zimmer-trained xD

I believe most of his best work resides in his Medal of Honor scores, regardless of that being his earlier material. By the time of Airborne, he composed for many more video games and films, and therefore by that point he had developed more of his own sound and style for the series rather than the Williams style he used.

Agree with the legibility concern, but one of the reasons I'm disinclined toward the 1st ver. is because I just don't like the heavy, multi-tiered, red/white/black title face. So…for the third ver. I've lowered its brightness while also inverting the subtitle to improve its readability. I played with shadows, both light and dark, but I much prefer the flat look. (I see you've already noticed).

That would appear to be FunnyML's edition which includes the unused cues and alts. For the sake of expediency I've been living with Calidoran's edition which, at approx. 41 minutes, is just the film score proper. As for the end titles, which Calidorn included in his version, it's no more than a reprise of the "The Victor" and is wholly redundant.

That said, I've always considered toying with this one to produce a more cohesive listen (while addressing hiss and volume levels). Accompanying the film, the score works great, but it's so fragmentary in tone it plays less successfully stand-alone. I suspect any edition I might produce would likely include some creative editing/splicing to both reduce redundancy and achieve an overall more balanced dramatic listening experience. Probably something purists wouldn't be interested in. And it's Varese….

@ George & Marvin: "somewhat talented" is still talented…to a degree, it's not like he's sharing a bench seat on the local Hackville bus with inexplicably successful dude bros like Tyler and Bates. But he's not in the same league as Williams-like talents such as Broughton and Holdridge. (I'm not going to regurgitate opinion here, but you're more than welcome to read tangotreat's remarks about Giacchino's compositional skill found scattered about in the "Big Orchestral…" thread. They reflect my own sentiments). And, as for McNeely, well he's a fine Williams mimic, but really, when it comes down to it — if I wanted to hear Williams, I'd just listen to Williams (though, personally, Goldsmith is my go to militarist).

I apologize, this is the best I could come up with for Contra, at least for now.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find something better, but I'm afraid this may be the best I can do.
For the other games, I think I may have more luck. These earlier Contra games don't provide much good material to work with at all, though.

For the other games, I think I may have more luck. These earlier Contra games don't provide much good material to work with at all, though.

Great sets!

These are my favorites :-D

If you could add Music by Christian Henson, Joe Henson and Alexis Smith to the bottom of the Alien cover, and add a nod to Jerry Goldsmith as well, that would be smashing!

Ok, here we go. The first of many cover posts...

I actually made this one today, on the spur of the moment. The film's promo material is incredibly limited (like, ONE poster) and I was fed up with the badly-designed OST cover, so I stumbled across a version of the poster I hadn't seen before and simply had to have a go. I had to remove a fair amount of text but I think it's worked out well and looks really rather nice in iTunes and iOS.

Agree with the legibility concern, but one of the reasons I'm disinclined toward the 1st ver. is because I just don't like the heavy, multi-tiered, red/white/black title face. Sofor the third ver. I've lowered its brightness while also inverting the subtitle to improve its readability. I played with shadows, both light and dark, but I much prefer the flat look. (I see you've already noticed).

And it's Varese.

I've used your cover for the LA.C. version that Calidoran put out, which I coincidentally found around the same time you posted this reply :) It's the isolated scores so listening to all of the source music takes me back a ways, great tunes for a great film :)

...and another...

This film was quite good. Very suspenseful and a good mystery/thriller. Unfortunately the promotional material was incredible limited (literally one poster), so I decided to vary it up and use a screenshot of the plane. The first logo is the one used in the opening titles and is on the majority of the posters. The second logo is from the end titles.

<A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A> <A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A>

From the very opening of the film, I noticed the score. It's now quickly becoming a favourite and is racking up plays in my iTunes like nobody's business. If you want to check it out, I would recommend the following tracks:

01. Non-Stop (This track is a suite of the main theme, not actually used in the film, but is incredibly epic and very exciting.)
21. Epilogue (This is a beautiful, relaxing cue that restates the main theme in a calm, positive way.)
14. Explosions Protocol (This is a hidden gem in the middle of the score - emotional yet tense and suspenseful.)
12. Reluctant Passenger / Blue Ribbon (An example of the beautiful emotional side of this score.)
02. Damaged Goods (This is the opening cue of the film, which grabbed my attention with the fast, pulsing beats underneath the chords.)

Check them out here. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVsU6KoGU0qtklOaDMDyy9A/videos) I'd be interested to know what you think of them.

I wasn't expecting to make more for this film, so you can blame Tintacle for getting me going again... ;)

<A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A> <A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A>

"Widescreen"
<A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A> <A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/non-stop-john-ottman-2014-this-film-was.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A>

Take your pick. Any thoughts?

I'll say this: The shot depicted on all the posters and the screenshot above of Neeson falling backwards in zero gravity firing his pistol was executed really well in the film itself. A very cool shot, pun absolutely intended. You watch the bts video and it's so fast and undramatic in reality, but when put in slow-mo and shown from a couple angles with dramatic music it's awesome.

<A HREF="http://customscorecovers.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/blog-post_13.html"> <IMG HEIGHT=400 WIDTH=400 SRC=""></A>

Love Tom Cruise. The little girl got annoying. The CGI was awesome, especially considering the movie is now 11 years old. The aliens were suitably horrible.

This cover is a remake of the cover that someone, somewhere already made. But the difference is that everything is centred properly and the image is more saturated.

@Mr Gold - that is one great Titanic cover.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the sessions anytime soon (though I do hope it rains down from the heavens), but I do hope for a La-La-Land release. If LLL could do Braveheart, then I hope they'll acquire the complete scores for Titanic, Legends of the Fall and Willow. Perhaps next year on Titanic's 20th anniversary, though I hope for an ultimate Blu-ray release with an isolated score. (though Apollo 13 didn't contain an isolated score on it's 20th anniversary blu-ray, thus missing out on James Horner's brilliant music)

But yeah, it's wishful thinking.

But yeah, it's wishful thinking.

http://i.imgur.com/soqYj0b.gif

If I REALLY had anything remotely resembling partial or complete sessions it would've been on the Shrine SO FAST! :D
No it's just because of this very nice expanded thread HERE (Thread 134823).
I don't like the words "expanded" on a cover and basically ANY score is "music from the recording sessions", so that sounds a lot better ;)

Well, "duh", but that's not helpful. "Recording sessions" implies some sort of raw, unedited, or unmixed (not to mention unmastered) material, whereas expanded or complete (or what have you) means some work has been put into these areas. I don't mean to sound condescending, but distinguishing between these things is helpful, regardless of whether some terms sounds better or not.

But each to their own. I normally just use CMPS for sessions covers, as they're usually complete, give or take something here or there.

I know perfectly well what you mean and where you're coming from with that, and no, it's not condescending at all :) If you were an Onion Kid though, I'd flame war you :p I suppose "music from the motion picture" is just as good.
I'm actually nitpicky about those things as well. I'm not going to slap a "complete score" cover on an album if it's got alternates. Goddammit, now I'm starting to doubt if "music from the recording sessions" was a good choice.

Uhm... Mr Gold, sir... would you mind making another version with "music from the motion picture"? If you still have the source files that is :)

TADA! Here it is. The big project I've been working on (and off, and on...) for the last three weeks. Started as a prompt by Lockdown (as well as for my own library), continued through frustration and completed with exhaustion but with a sense of catharsis. For the three people on the Shrine who give a hoot (Lockdown, me and maybe a wildcard or two), here it is: Spyro The Dragon, one through four.

I saved this post in my favs - for one day I knew I'd make use of these. And now the time has come, having downloaded most I could of Spyro music. And.. by golly! ALL OF THE COVERS ARE SO PERFECT. I DUNNO WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE!! So hard, they are all so nice. I'd go personally with Set 2, and 3 if it was without sticker!

I've only watched/listened to Divergent, Mad Max, BvS, TASM2... He did a good job in BvS (if he did all the Batman / Bruce Wayne music), but I'm not that sure he's already that ready for a big & good score like Justice League. I mean, his past works are good, but don't shine too much. But, who knows? He'll use themes composed by Zimmer, that's a good thing (I'm not sure if Zimmer already composed the themes for all of the JL characters... it might be he did).

Anyway, there will probably be a bunch of RCP additional composers to help him if he needs to (Zimmer himself included). :)
Also, I think he's finding his path... I watched a Behind the Scenes for his "Black Mass" score, and looks like he does really good music, beyond the usual drums action music :D

Anybody got an idea for a nice Game of Thrones cover? The official ones are not particularly well thought out, IMHO :)

I made a matching set, a while ago. You can find it on my blog: http://hoffer.cx/albumart/#GoT

His Black Mass Score Was A Total Different Approach Compared to Other Scores He Has Done, Some Real Emotional Tracks Compared to The Last Of Mad Max And Others, Hopefully A Combination Of The Both May Work For This Film.

So I hope. I guess it was under George Miller's request the music to be totally crazy and mad. I mean, that's the only type of score that could combine with the movie and I guess Junkie was the only one composer that could provide such craziness :) The fact that you hated it means that it worked out!
You make me very interested in Black Mass! Hope to see that soon :D

Hey that's a neat idea, gururu! Not sure if it fully works, but nontheless great concept. I tried coming up with something similar, but the 3D render image of BEYOND is just too good to mimic something else in the same style. Also, after some consideration I think the Enterprise itself is enough to clarify this as a STAR TREK score.

Hey that's a neat idea, gururu! Not sure if it fully works…

It's a rebuttal to the official album cover with the monstrous text and its redundant use of Beyond. It still "feels" too angry, though. The clouds should be turned down a couple notches. And I keep wanting to throw red at it.

I'd move "original motion picture soundtrack" up, in the skyline. It will be more easily legible there :)

Finally saw the movie yesterday. Not half as bad as I thought it would be. Had a few good laughs. I would definitely get rid of Old Tonto though. It's just as bad as Old Rose in Titanic. Something to think about... I might consider tackling it. There's more that can be left on the cutting floor. Would need the sessions rather than film mixes to get it done right, though. Are the sessions around?

RE: Star Trek Beyond

I think it's much better now.

Yes, I agree.

But to add:

I have qualms though, and it's really just inherent to the original designer's concept itself, specifically the disagreeable visual tension between the ascending Enterprise and plume elements and the heavy downward pressure created by the 3D Beyond which has the appearance of falling or tipping over, the reason why I reduced its size in my own efforts. I was looking for a way to diminish the effect (which is distinguishable in your LP cover).

I see, but it's especially that visual tension that spoke to me in the first place. I had an even bigger BEYOND logo in my first version to emphasize this maelstrom effect. The stunning render quality helps as well.

Thanks, tintacle! It was a mixture of various techniques, and it happened more by accident. My first version of the cover looked like this:

()

But I kept contemplating about it, cause something didn't feel right to me. After some trials (and errors) I decided to center the whole composition and extend the image to the right. Here's the source image I've used:

()

I used the lasso tool to select the light streaks at the bottom right and then stretched them onto (and over) the edge of the canvas, all while keeping the original orientation. The image got heavily distorted, but that's of no consequence on textures like this one. The upper right corner was filled with excerpts from the following key art:

()

The rough transitions were covered using the clone stamp or the content aware fill tool. So basically my trick was to simply stretch the image. Sorry if you expected some form of master wizardry, lol. I'm nothing special ;)

Heidl, thank you so much to the wonderful Beyond options. Now, which one shall I use when the CD comes my way?

I have printed many of your covers (the skull-in-the-sand image for Fury Road is my favorite!) They're sized 4"x4", so none of the art is obscured. My wife doesn't mind that I still collect CDs, but keeping the cases is a no-go! The compromise was putting the entirety of the his/hers collection in paper sleeves, filling seven 24"x6"x6" totes. Soundtracks take up a tote-and-a-half themselves.
