Hey guys The L.a. Noire official soundtrack on itunes has 2 more tracks that the one uploaded here doesn't. It's called Murder Brood 1 and Murder Brood 2. Does anyone have the version with the 28 tracks? if so, can they please upload it. Thanks

And that's another thing... when did people become so damned ignorant?! I really am starting to get angry at some people, not because they are ignorant, but because they are starting to make me sound old! >:(

Did anyone watch lastnight's Deadliest Catch (ep 8 of the current season) - there was a cool piece of guitar at the end with an undertone and it sounded familiar, like it was a piece of music from something else - anyone know what it was?

Does anyone have the Mulan Academy Promo (Not the "Limited Edition Score" that's been posted here already, I have this.) in lossless, or even 256 or 320? My 192 rip doesn't sound so hot, like it wasn't encoded with a decent MP3 encoder, and I'd like to be able to mix the various Mulan sources I have for an "ultimate" soundtrack album, and the Academy Promo is the only place I know of to find the film version of the single "True To Your Heart" and an alternate cue to "The Matchmaker." Please and thank you!

In case anyone missed it:

Thread 90563

In case anyone has assumed, this is not a sound-effect filled rip of an album.

This is a series of video files using the complete score sessions. An "isolated score" video presentation so you can see how the unedited recording sessions were designed to fit the film.

Details are in the thread itself.

An extraction log is easy to fake, indeed, but that's quite pointless anyway. It's just a convenience provided to the few (anal-retentive) people who could need it for whatever purpose, certainly not the alpha and omega of error-free copies (that's what aucdtect, accuraterip and a decent pair of ears are for :D) /off-topic

The newer versions of EAC can create logs with MD5 checksums.

Edit: and CUE files are handy if you want to burn them to CD with proper gap lengths.
Actually, EAC is a lot more complex than setting up.
There's several different methods out there that people believe are *THEE* absolute method to rip CD's properly.

Creating CUE files is also another battle. There's 4 options to creating CUE files, based on how you rip the CD. And if you check for gap lengths, etc.
Whenever I rip from EAC, I always check for gap lengths, test on silence and create all 4 possible CUE files.
Typically, the most popular CUE file to create is the one marked as "multiple wav files, non-compliant".

Edit 3: I've gone through several setups and tested a few CDs and kept the settings that gave me 100% ripping with no errors. And also the ones that gave me the most tracks in the AccurateRip database (not all will be present in the database, and almost always the newest ones aren't; until you submit your results to add to the library so people can get the AccurateRip results with the most "confidence" indications).

Edit 4: there is no edit 2, i hit 3 instead of 2. :/

How Do You Know (2010) - Hans Zimmer [192]
Okay, so I guess there are also some purists like me who have been at some point looking for this score which is the last James L. Brooks film (also As Good As It Gets, Spanglish). So it appears it is clearly unavailable, so I decided I'd make it myself... Obviously the sfx are there, but it's still quite enjoyable, i hope anyone who's interested will still like it...
Enjoy my friends!!

Oh, and BTW, whoever uploaded that extended score from "Wargames" the password DOES NOT work. I know that some people had complained, and others said that it worked fine. Well, the password given "JeklV0Jg09qMDY" will not work, and I tried it about 10 different ways. Nada, zilch, Nyet. Nothing! So, thanks for nothing. Big joke, pal! If you HAVE to use a passwork ( and WHY must you?) let's just make it an easy one, not some equation for the chemical formula for ioanium!

I have nooo idea what ionian is. However, I found an infernally long version of Wargames at another vault, and am downloading now. 42 tracks, 140 some odd mb. Says it is a mix of 192 and 320. I will repack and up to multi upload. Thanks to the original poster, and blog runner, who I know reads things here....

I'm pretty sure i have an expanded score from the first movie, and i think it's sfx free, not sure what the source is, if it's recording sessions or just extra tracks, or what the bitrate is (my older collection is not that high for bitrates).

But I wont be able to upload the whole thing until the turn of the internet bill, as Im already way over my monthly cap :/
Its also fake lossless. I never converted it back to mp3 as it would degrade quality even more so than the original lossy quality before it's fake-upgrade.
I can convert to mp3-vbr-224-ish.

Not out till the 28th.

Really?! It comes out next Friday though. But I guess that's understandable, I mean, Abrams and Spielberg wanted to keep the whole film on the down-low, so it's not surprising the score will be out 18 days after the film. Afterall, The song titles from motion picture scores do seem to spoil the movie a bit.

Good news and bads news. and then repeat.

Good news: you're not the only one with that problem. Multiple users experience the same thing. They run on AMD processors and exerience this problem when creating the "checksums" for their logs.

Bad news: there is no immediate fix for this as of yet. the coder is still trying to debug it. Even the latest beta version has this problem.

Good news: you can disable the "checksum" and create the log without it.

Bad news: you won't be able to use the checksum.

Good news: you can still rip the music.

Bad news: no ones going to believe you :/

Good news: I'll believe you!

I guess you got part of his/her remarks wrong, no? Why do people take always every piece of info or advice personally, as if their fame and morality was at stake? :D

Nobody wants "proof" to make someone guilty or innocent (and one can fake a video, anyway :D), it's not a military trial...
It is not a matter of "personal" trust about *you* but about your *cd drive* and *rip software*. Some hardware/software is notably unreliable when it comes to digital audio extraction. Some other is more efficient, some even tells you - and us - if errors/scratches/glitches/missing audio occurred... Usually it does not warn you vocally but in the form of a text file (a "log", as in planes). That's one of the primary uses for an extraction log: What drive parameters were used for the copy? (music samples ignored due to offset? hidden tracks and music transitions in pregaps not copied?) What got copied correctly and not? ('track 3 has 1227 errors'? let's clean the disc of this ketchup drop and try again...) Which kind of errors were encountered? ('corrected 57 out of 15237 samples, 0.32 seconds in the middle of track 3 replaced with silence') What hidden track exists but was not extracted? ('Track 1 starts at 9mn 17s') etc. etc.

Because this or that specific software did not complain or fail or exits with a dramatic error message during extraction, does not imply it did its job successfully, or completely, or right. But to know it, some kind of logging system is needed. So that things can be corrected afterwards (I do it routinely for 'bad' rips) and eventually improved for the next time (by providing feedback and help).

A "not perfect" rip is always welcome and appreciated, you are the one who brings us new exciting music and thanks for that. Nobody is to blame for a faulty drive, not-configured software or a scratched disc. :)

It is at paradox, soundtrack central or somesuch. There are several links that are still active. 2 disc set. BUT, I do not know if they are rips or not. They mostly have bit rates of 128. I saw in another site it being offered by Parker1, and a custom rip with slight fx. I do not know if these are all the same. Perhaps Parker could tell us. I was just looking for higher quality. I may dl one from a trusted source, give it a listen. If it has any fx, then likely it is Parker's. If not, then I dunno.

Yeah, it's very questionable. I know there's a 3 that's pretty much clean.
I think I found it here, on paradox and a russian forum somewhere (first seen?)

I only grabbed it to get the percussion intro for Battle Over Coruscant, but that first part of the film has so many tracks with so many different names for it.
And the Anikin VS Dooku.

I've never seen anything higher than 256, I think it was.
Definitely no lossless anywhere.

Amanda

No, no lossless, since there is no official expanded release, hence no source disc to rip from.

Anyone know of anything for this?

Super Inframan

Wikia says it uses music from 2 sources.
I remember one scene where the villains were leaving their lair but with some funky grooves.

The Super Inframan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Super_Inframan)

There was a little help from Japan, also; Music from Ultra Seven (1967) and Mirrorman (1971) (both composed by Toru Fuyuki) is used here.

yes, Mark Isham's The Mist, it features a song or two by Dead Can Dance. Meshes nicely with the rest of the soundtrack.

Getting close now- so here's the Impossible Requests lists again... note a distinct lack of Varese, or requests for scores from movies that aren't even in theaters yet. :-)

The Impossible Requests List:

1. Congo (1995, Jerry Goldsmith) Expanded/RecordingSessions/Complete Score

2. Toy Story 2 (Randy Newman) - Complete/Expanded/RecordingSessions/Promo. (Recent ebay evidence suggests this does exist, so who has it?) :-)

3. "The Glass Bottom Boat" - 1966 (Frank De Vol (Credited as De Vol)) Any score/bootleg/anything... :-)

4. *Any music from "Marple" - (Dominik Scherrer, 2004-onwards) or the David Suchet Poirot movies - Complete Score/Recording Sessions... or plain 'ol DVD rips. Whatever's there! :-)

5. Chicken Run (John Powell/Harry Gregson-Williams) - Expanded/RecordingSessions/Complete Score

Just a tad impatient aren't we? This was just released last Wednesday, why don't you listen to the 17 track version I posted a few weeks ago while you wait, or better yet order it from Intrada they pressed 5,000 copies so I am sure they still have some left.

Okay fine you don't have to get so defensive, I just noticed you have only shared one soundtrack in your two years on this forum and I thought you might be one of those "leeches" that people whisper about on here.

My apologies if you were offended.

never fear Scoreman, I am quite sure it will show sooner or later. And pm will not be needed. We can still post Intrada. But, as this is such a big release, just chill out, have some lemonade, and don't worry. I've become obsessed with giacchino television and movie scores lately, and most of them are Varese, such that of Lost, fringe, star trek deluxe, land of the lost, MI3, and more. Mostly in 320 kbps or itunes 256, message me & I will be happy to quench the thirst of a fan of this composer's music! :D

(I only have official releases, except for MI3 & speedracer scores, which I have the complete versions of)

Still looking for alias season 1, though, help? :p

No smoke, but three files uploading in different windows. 2 on Multi, and one MU. Maybe it's slowing me down.

Well, actually there is some smoke, but not enough to be like, obviously smoky. Enough to aggravate those with allergies and asthma though.

I wish I had those speeds...I get between 100-190kbps down and only 30kbps up. So that may explain why I'm not an uploading phenom like some here. I would change ISP's but it's the only one available to me.

Yea, usually when starting a thread, I start the upload, come here, write up the post, type out the track list, and by then, the link is ready to go. I fully xpected Masada to be ready. But, it's there now, so it is all good.

I've had that happen with MU aswell, i was uploading a rar file and it always stalled around 26%, then i re-created the rar file with filenames protected by password and it uploaded, so don't know if it was just that they were having problems, or if it scanned the file and found blacklisted contents? With it passworded hiding the filenames i had no problem uploading.

Multiupload.com should upload directly to the site first then it'll send those uploaded files to the other hosting sites you choose.
Everytime a file is completely uploaded, I open the link right away and watch the progress as it sends to other sites.

I also notice when uploading to any file hosting site, you don't really have any control of the bandwidth you consume. Unless you know about some programs that most don't.
Multiupload has their own uploading tool, but it doesn't allow you to control the upload speed (so you don't max out and lag your internet browsing at the same time).
I like the tool because you can minimize it to the taskbar and not accidently close the internet browser.
Although, Chrome has an add-on to minimize to tray/taskbar.

Sparky, how do I convert my archive to this CBR V-0 format? My audio converter does not have that option. Better sound range, less space usage, yes? Can I convert the existing library? Any help from anyone is appreciated.

PS It needs to be a free tool...

@babydoll: *if* I get things right, "V0" implies VBR (Variable BitRate) at its highest quality (this is a well-known setting of the Lame mp3 encoder). So if you have any option in your software to do VBR at a topmost quality setting, that should do it.

Window's Users:
Foobar will do that. It's free and you can change the presets for your conversion.
It supports VBR-0.

losssless/lossy conversion notes:

It's a good idea to have the files in lossless format first before converting to VBR-0. Conerting MP3 to MP3 will degrade quality.
Though I haven't bothered to look up forum wars about how much loss will be lost.
And I haven't tried it myself to look at spectral views and do blind ABX testing either.

but Foobar is an overall nice free tool that will do it.
Download foobar2000 and optional components (http://www.foobar2000.org/download)

You will also need "lame.exe" already compiled.
This site has compiled various versions of Lame.exe for different uses (64bit, to add floating values, etc)
RareWares (http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php)
(The top most compile will do...)

LAME 3.98.4
2010-03-23
Bundle compiled with Intel Compiler 11.1.
Download (563kB)
Just download this and extract to any folder you want. (eg: D:\Bin Apps\Lame)
When you go to convert to MP3, Foobar will ask you were you installed the lame.exe, so just point to the right location (eg: D:\Bin Apps\Lame\lame.exe)
note: This is a no-install version of lame.exe. There really aren't any installations of Lame, so just extract and find a home for Lame.

note on other Lame compiled versions (optional read):

The other version in there says something FLAC and OGG as input, that's mostly if you want to use just the lame.exe by itself.
Foobar will decode the lossless formats, so when you save to mp3, half the work is already done (hence you don't need the FLAC/OGG version of lame.exe).

Also, make sure you have FLAC and APE installed. These are small in size and will have no impact on your system.
These are also needed to quickly decode these lossless files. And if you want to save in these formats, Foobar will ask you were the flac.exe and the ape version is installed (just go to 'Program Files' then FLAC/Monkey Audio).
FLAC - download (http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html)
Monkey's Audio - a fast and powerful lossless audio compressor (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/download.html)
note: FLAC and Monkey Audio (APE) are installations, so their default installation/home is in Program Files or similar, based on your Operating System.

I've got a decoder dictionary that decodes all that for you. but you'll need another dictionary just to understand it all lol.
The nice thing about foobar, is once all the setup is done, you're pretty much set after that. :D

Yea. But. If as you say, converting the 320 will cause degredation, then I dunno, because I have no flac or lossless files for myself. its all mp3 already, mostly 320. And I don't think I wanna do all this for the one or two rare flac share I do. Know what i mean?

My two or three cents on this off-topic topic:
- recompressing permanently mp3 to mp3 is - as a rule of thumb - a bad idea, boooo, yuck, not worth the pain and likely to yield quality/functionality issues (won't develop here, there are technical sites for that). Only in a few cases does it make sense, e.g. on the road with your old mp3-only player and its very limited storage, well... no other choice than to recompress good mp3 to lightweight/not-so-good mp3 to fit enough music in the device...
- a few 'modern' lossy formats (e.g. aac, mpc, lossy wv...), because they either compress more for a same perceived quality or use a different 'lossy' approach to compress sound, *could* be tentatively used to recompress 'too big' mp3 files with acceptable degradation/compression ratio. Same here: it all depends on specific cases and still involves some tricky choice.
- speaking of quality, it makes actually little sense comparing "@320" or "@128" or "vbr at ~225 is worse than @256". The software involved is one of the most critical aspects to consider as some encoders are notably flawed or at least poorly-designed (Xing-based, Blade-based... which came or still come in several 'commercial' 'all-in-one' products unfortunately). These will sound quite poorly even at 320kbps, whereas the same tune encoded with a recent fine-tuned software (e.g. Lame...) will sound much better even at a lower bitrate. Imho, using a good encoder is the first and foremost step qualitywise. Only then can you debate (endlessly :D) on what bitrate provides the best quality/size ratio, suits your ears, pleases your grandma etc.

As a (rather extreme) sidenote, even encoding @320 kbps with the best available software can sometimes prove a rather poor choice. I know several albums which have bitrates as low as 260 kbps when going for lossless compression. It implies that encoding such an album in mp3@320 will both alter the sound (one wouldn't notice it, agreed) AND take more space than needed. A lose-lose situation. The same album encoded in mp3@128 would thus save significant space and still sound wonderful to us humans!

I don't want to dig too deep into technical aspects which are off-topic and won't preach for my personal faith in these matters (easy to guess anyway). That was just to remind anybody interested that a bitrate is not necessarily the ultimate quality index when it comes to encoding music lossily... and choosing which file to download. :)

I personally don't see it as off topic, really. A better understanding of this will only result in better quality shares for all.

Aside from Lame as an mp3 encoder, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG/The Fraunhofer IIS-A) has some good reputation, especially at lower bitrates. If configured properly, it is able to retain most of the full frequency range.
A friend of mine prefers that over Lame.
I've done some tests, and it varies. It's mostly up to the music you convert.
Some genres of music work better at different codecs, bitrates and settings.

Sparktank, if you have some links to a recent benchmark or comparison of mp3 encoders, that could also help people to decide what is definitely to avoid vs. what is generally preferred. (Haven't been following closely the 'mp3 encoders war' for many many years now, not to say testing them, so don't feel like recommending any in particular :))
