some help here please, i would have preferred to contact the composer directly but seeing as there's no email add for me to access, can anybody here please help out, i would love to have the following 9 score samples here (
http://billbrownmusic.com/projects/captain-america.php). thanks to whoever knows how to help. (i have the game cd but i honestly dont know how to extract the music myself so i will be content to have the ff instead.)
i'm talking about the Captain_America_Super_Soldier (
http://billbrownmusic.com/projects/captain-america.php) vgm score.
thanks.
Sully's provided you with a rather long explanation. Sure you could manually record the music with Audacity, but you could also get the Video DownloadHelper add-on for FireFox. It is not very difficult to use and it extracts the music right out of the player to ensure no loss in quality. I can help out more, if need be.
EDIT: Oh, I should have read more of the thread. Looks like you guys already have everything under control. Sorry to be redundant.

I like this idea of doing blu-ray rips of end credits.
I remember ripping end credits to cassette back in the day
I should go through my blurays and make a new thread for bluray credits.
Bigger bit depth (sometimes), bigger audio, more channels (sometimes) and all the goodness!

Come on, people. It's not that hard. We're nearing the end of 2011 and there are still people that can't do this?
1. Acquire an audio converter.

I get all that, but what I wanna know is how is FLAC any better than mp3 (for example)? What is all this talk about 'lossy mp3' and 'lossless FLAC'? What is lossless?
Amanda

When an album is ripped, and turned into mp3, the compression loses data, thus the term "lossy". Lossless just refers to a format that retains all of it's data. All the sound and quality remain intact, where an mp3 file has lost data, and hence quality of sound. The lower the bit rate, the more data (quality) is lost. FLAC is a tool that allows you to have lossless, but at a much smaller, compressed size of file, without losing the data.
For instance, using the program on windows for lossless, a file may have a size of 400mb or more. Flac can cut that in half, and retain the quality. Mp3 320 takes it closer to 100mb, and so has less data (quality)....

So, what that means is that most of the files shared here, even at the best rate of mp3, are not equal to the sound and quality of the actual disc. But, lossless IS. Having a lossless file shared, along with high res art scans, and you essentially have the commercial product.

Well, much smaller...not that much compares to the wav files?. And compression without losing data, don't you lose data 'per definition' when compressing data?

Well, if you rip a CD to WAV, it's uncompressed with full, constant bitrate at 1411.
It is the equivalent to having an mp3 in CBR@320.
When you compress to FLAC (or other lossless codecs), it losslessly compresses it to a smaller file.
It uses variable bitrate and keeps all the necessary bits used for the music.
It is the equivalent to having an mp3 in VBR-0.
So the bits you lose are really just empty bits that contain nothing.
every sample is calculated to find the maximum bit usage and it reduces it to that (or close to without cropping it).
FLAC, APE, WavPack(WV), and other lossless compressions are indeed lossless.
If you were to take an original WAV file, compress it to FLAC...
And do it a bit-comparison, it should show up as no difference in the two files (except for file size).
Foobar2000 has a bit-comparison component (you have to install) and you can check this.
It should work everytime.
The only time it will fail is if something went wrong during the encoding.

apparently, it seems that DISNEY (those bastards) never released any official soundtracks, only the "story" of the love bug soundtrack, which is like the story of star wars soundtrack, TOTAL BS!!!! There is a soundtrack from "Herbie fully loaded", that bastard movie starring you know who! :(
I was just hoping that someone here would have some of the tracks from the first or second film. Since the special anniversary DVD release on the first film is in horrible MONO, there's no chance of pulling any music from the disc at all!

I did a visual representation of a WAV file and what it should look like when you convert to lossless codecs (FLAC/WAV/ETC) and MP3.
Not going into other codecs like WavPack-Hybrid (Lossless&Lossy) or .ogg.
In the MP3 section (orange and red), the red area is the actual bitrate needed for the arbitrary song.
So in a standard 320 encoding, it really just has a VBR version inside with extra space that is useless.
The frequency, however, is closer to the original in CBR than it is in VBR.
CBR is close to 22.5 (per channel, giving you the 44.1Khz sample rate).
VBR is cut off.
But the difference between the two, the average human ear won't really pick up the frequency difference.

Yes.
WAV and FLAC are lossless in quality. Like having the CD, as Babydoll said.
Lossless also means larger file size.
Lossless is ideal for burning to CD, instead of burning MP3 to CD.
If you do any audio editing, like suites and stuff, lossless is preferred for this as well.
Other than that, all you really need is the lossy formats (mp3/ogg/etc) for your everyday listening.
Most speaker systems for home theater recievers/amps should be able to play all lossless nicely.
You can certainly hear the bass.
With low encodes of mp3 (less than 224) the bass sometimes comes in very low and somewhat crackly/distorted.

Funny, I also saw The Love bug last week and was looking around for it and its sequels *L*
Well, I have some GOOD news! :)
I watched "Herbie rides again" last night, and I was using headphones, as my wife was working on a project, and my girls had homework, hehehehehe.
Only by using the headphones did I hear that the music was in stereo, while the voices and SFX were mono, in the center track, so there may be a way to extract the two outside channels, left and right, and get some nice noise free music. I had tried a program last year that was supposed to do that, but it failed horribly. If anyone knows a really great program that would yank the music out of a DVD, please let me know. Since the music seems to be on totally different audio channels, we may get a good pull!
Thanks, William

When you say center channel, I'm assuming this DVD is in 5.1 (or at least 4.0), and not 2.0. If it is, I would use DVD Audio Extractor to separate the channels. That's a damn shame that The Love Bug is in mono, and that they've never released a score for it. Perhaps Intrada will be able to do that someday (soon) now that they have their deal with Disney.

If it turns out to be two-channel stereo, you'll sorta be out of luck, though. You could do the karaoke effect on the audio, but that would render it in mono. Sometimes the karaoke won't even take care of it. As I read somewhere once, trying to extract or remove a particular sound from audio is about as possible as extracting the eggs out an already-baked cake.

I would very much like to contribute to this thread, as I have quite a few promo scores that have never been posted here (Miles Goodman, Stanley Myers, Debney, Convertino, Gunning etc). It took me a while to prepare as I had to first buy a PC that I could use for this purpose (done!). I also had to decide on the upload/download program to use and settled on Megaupload (because it's utilized exclusively by people on some other threads I use, and because it isn't Rapidshare). I had to decide on the format to upload in and thought Apple Lossless would be a good option for everyone because these files can be imported into iTunes on a Mac or PC where every person can then convert the music to the format of their choice. I would be interested to know if anyone on this thread has a good reason for why I might want to do things differently, as there might be something I overlooked. Thank you!

I saw on another blog that FSM members had seen the post, and complained to Lukas, or whoever.I suppose the posting of a giant thread like that, and offering to share is too close to posting it outright, which is something I have suggested before. We can still pm things, but not be quite so open about it, I would think. You all know who posted them. I would think if you pm'es 'em, and asked that could not be prohibited?

For stuff like this, I think just a post in this thread, saying, hey I got the album and it sounds great. Then, it would be up to members to pm or not. No offering to share, or requesting of forbidden labels. Just a comment that it is nice. Afterall, if it is all in private, then no one can control that.

I agree that it was probably a good idea that Gremlins thread was taken down. Just way too high profile to be front and center like that, especially an FSM title. The good news is, it's definitely available now through PMs, so thanks again to the original uploader.
By the way, if anyone's looking for the *** ***, it's available over at the *** *** blog.

well nobody is a saint here.
and to quote Capt. Jack Sparrow
"The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can’t do. For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can’t. But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you’ll have to square with that some day. And me, for example, I can let you drown, but I can’t bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesies, savvy? So, can you sail under the command of a pirate, or can you not?"

I have not even watched the movies so many times, but I know the exact scene that quote came from. It was right after Jack and Will stole the ship, and they were headed to Tortuga to get a crew together. There was no music during that scene, but shortly following it, the track that's typically called "Tortuga" on the various bootlegs...I don't know why I'm still typing.

Thanks! DVD Audio extract was the program that I had tried, but I couldn't get it to give me discreet left and right, and rear left and right channels. I took a look at your instructions, and found out that you can ONLY get that thru ripping a WAV file. I was using MP3s! Helps if you have some instructions to follow! :) "Herbie rides again" is released in 5.1, and I did a rip yesterday, and I got some great areas of music. I will work on them this weekend. Thanks again.

As far as I know, no full scores have been released for either film. Batman and Robin had a score suite in the album but other than that theres nothing that could be in FLAC.

I don't think Neo was asking for a complete score. I also don't know anything about the scores you are discussing but it sounds like if an OST had been released, there would have been a CD, in which case, the music must exist in FLAC, as FLAC is just one format that audio can be ripped from a CD in...I'm not sure what a suite has anything to do with this. If there was not a commercial, physical release for this stuff, then it would be a bit harder for it to exist in FLAC

Well, I should rephrase that. I didnt think they even had a Original Soundtrack released. According to Wikipedia, the score was released for Batman Forever. My mistake. However, Batman and Robin's score was not released. The Albulm had a Score Suite and I thought that was the only score work released for either movies. I was was wrong sorry.

Hey everyone. this is an odd request but film score related. I'm looking for a lossless version of one song - DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR by Johnny Mathis. The song was featured in a movie that I'm compiling a complete soundtrack for. I don't want to name the movie just yet though.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone have ROUGH RIDERS by Peter Bernstein/Elmer Bernstein? I watched this miniseries recently and became hooked on the score. Naturally there was a soundtrack release a number of years ago, but it went out of print and is difficult to find. MP3 or lossless would be do nicely. Thank you!

I want to know how snakes hopes a Lion King isolated score may be coming soon? That implies an official iso as a special feature, and surely we'd know about that?
Also, Snakes, I will just point out to you that the Star Trek score is Varese, so can't BE posted here...:/

So, Apparently, People Have Been Bothered By My Posts.... I Am Assured That I Do This For Sharing And NOT To Be A D*** About It. I'm On The Hunt For Only Scores For Movies That I've Seen (I.E. - Transformers : Revenge Of The Fallen Or Take Me Home Tonight). These Are Really Rare And Hard Scores To Find. So, If You Ask For A Score From Me, And I Don't Return It Soon, I'm Either Still Looking Or I Am Through Looking For It. In Conclusion, I Am Going To Share This Score(ONLY FOR SHARING) Bcuz Some Of You Are My Friends. I Will NOT Post A Link To This Score On Here. If You'd Like One, P.M. Me For One. If I Don't P.M. Well, I certainly mean no offense or anything personal Snakes, you know that by now. I was just curious about the term isolated score for the Lion King. That is a very specific, technical term for a special feature of some dvd and blue ray releases. Meaning, sometimes these things feature a seperate, score only type thing. Now, that would be of great interest to fans of this score. But, ripping the music from the dvd, with fx included, no matter how slight, or well done, is not-technically-an iso score. I just wanted to know your source, and if this was an actual iso, cause that would be fantastic. Just looking for details, not dogging on you, dig?

Yes, I agree with you, Babydoll. I think people need to give this guy a chance. I am waiting for a score from him and I will be happy to give it a listen when he is done. Only then will I be able to see if what other people are saying is true. I am interested in his The Lion King Complete Score, but surely a complete score would be more then 26 tracks...? How much FX is there? And you also say, Snake, that you are pretty sure it is the iso score. Surely if you made it, or put it together, you would know?? @Everybody, pay attention to this, guys. Many people have said this before, and I, myself, have said it multiple times...And I'll say it again, and this time I'll use a slightly larger font to emphasize the importance of this post: Snakes has absolutely no clue what he is talking about. He doesn't understand how hardly anything in the movie score industry works with the structures, titles, labels, meanings or just about anything else. I once tried (to no avail) to help him understand some things so people would stop making fun of him.
Instead of making fun of him, being rude, throwing around insults, we should all pitch in to help him understand everything that is wrong with what he says and does, and maybe in the future he can become a respected member of this forum.
Hell, maybe we could even start a thread under the FAQs forum entitled something along the lines of: "Help Station for Snakes".

I don't have a clue about how the movie score industry works, gonna kick me out? Although I am very curious about it, I propose you make a thread of that.
HOWEVER: I understand part of the arguments! If you post something: better be precise about the origin....but don't be a B*tch about when it isn't?
NOTE: I do draw a line when it comes to stealing work from someone else (as I read before), but otherwise..let it be. Don't think you'll change or better the world by 'teaching someone'.

Thats the point ! He not even promotes them as "isolated" scores (thats because he dont want to understand that term), he also claims to have secret "sources", hide the fact that his bad rips are full with sfx. Dimensioner tried to show snakes how to make proper dvd rips but he did not care...he never ever did care from any of our advices. How many times should we tell him how to use some easy terms like isolated, recording sessions in proper way ? He can share his stuff here but he should finally start to label them right: "complete score with full sfx"
EDIT: Thats not meant as a personal attack against snake. Actually i hope he finally understand after reading this why some of us are complaining !

Let me check active links. I may have one ready. If not, I will make one. I had created a dedicated Horner thread on a private site. But the site was closed, and it appears most of my links were nuked as well. So, all who are waiting on Horner requests still, re-pm me. I have them all, just need to re-pack and make links. I will do them all, but will do the requests first, if you have not found them in the meanwhile.

Hi all...new here. This is a great forum! I'm on the hunt for an extended score...do any of you John Williams fans know if there was/is an extended score for the 1995 movie "Sabrina" with Harrison Ford? I have the original soundtrack, but there are many tracks/cues in the movie not on the official release.
Thanks for any info!
Never heard about something like it. :-(

Well, 30 dollars is the cost of one of the three bottles of insulin I need to, like, stay alive. I know the FSM crowd say if I can't afford it, tough. But that would mean never listening to music at all. I can't do that, it is about the only thing I have to calm me. Call it therapeutic. Do you feel I should pass....or not eat...or not stay out of hospital, or not have music? I think I can get DS the album, I still need to check.

Well I sympathize with you and understand, but the bottomline is, we are stealing music and it doesnt matter if one have cancer, lost his job or been in a caraccident...its still theft from the rights owners. Noone in here have to explain him/herselves as we all hopefully knows what we are doing here.
