I feel that IREM shouldn't have gone bankrupt, because that way, they would've had the Metal Slug series.

And it probably would have been called GunForce 3! :)

Item and SNK had very close ties. Last Resort is basically R-Type on the NEO Geo, so I don't think it's too far fetched to think of Metal Slug with an Irem logo on it. That said, the game basically made the Neo Geo popular, so it's a good thing it WAS an SNK title!

I wish they did In the Hunt 2, btw. Though Irem did Sub Rebellion for PS2, but... it's different style and overall

Last Resort is an awesome game, not only in the playing department, but also in the music, with it's sampled guitars and great driving orchestral rhythms (BTW, the Stage 1 boss theme, "VICE", is one of the awesomest boss tracks in the game, EVER, lol).

No, no. I am saying that if IREM did not go bankrupt in 1994, then they would've continue making the Gunforce series as it was with Gunforce 2, except naming it as "Metal Slug", it would've been known as "Gunforce 3", but still made for the NEO-GEO.

Jesus Christ, get a grip, why don't ya?

True. I have no problem with SNK. But I still wish that they still had the rights to Gunforce, that way IREM would've still made the series. The only problem with that is that if they continued the Gunforce series, past IREM's bankruptcy, many "gamers" would hate it because it is a "clone" of Metal Slug.

Gun Force has a more realistic and futuristic take on things, while Metal Slug is much more cartoony and uses WWII era machinery as the inspiration for it's vehicles.

Knivesman

Speaking of cartoony, i like that platformer they did for Neo Geo before Metal Slug. It's called "Top Hunter", and it's pretty advanced... Jumping between two planes of level, ton of moves for characters (not only jumping on heads, but also punching, fireball etc), that funny cartoonish, pixelart, some use of vehicles.

Though these weeks i'm more into Capcom CPS mood. Progear no Arashi is such beautiful shmup from Cave. But so difficult. But beautiful - graphics, music, that steampunk style...

Also having fun with Battle Circuit - absolutely crazy beatemup which looks like tribute to 1950s sci fi.

And what were you guys playing recently?

Truthfully? Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword because I never got around to actually playing it! And I need to finish up Sword and Sworcery too, before I start anything else.

So I couldn't find the composer or the song titles ANYWHERE, but Monster Gate and Monster Gate - Ooinaru Dungeon - Fuuin no Orb are up in the GBA section! These games sounded pretty good on the GBA itself, but they sound INCREDIBLE now. Crystal clear symphonic music with some chiptunes leads make it a joy to listen to. I agree- I love those 2 games. Especially Progear no Arashi, I find that one along with E.S.P Rade to be Cave's magnum opuses. I also like Battle Circuit. The CPS II is excellent arcade hardware for Capcom, but unfortunately, I feel that it is plagued with too many VS. Fighters like Street Fighter. I loved the Dungeons and Dragons games made on that hardware, as well as Gigawing- that one was awesome.

And that's why I like Gun Force a little bit more than Metal Slug- it has a much more serious side and it is darker. Don't get me wrong, I am an avid fan of Metal Slug, its just I don't like the ones after 3 since HIYA! didn't compose them any further.

Ruiner9, do you still take NES requests? I have one- Dungeon Kid. It was developed by Pixel for Quest Co. Ltd. (the same company that did Ogre Battle). The game was composed by Masaharu "REZON" Iwata, who is known for doing a lot of RPGs. He worked over at Pixel making music for these games on the NES before he left in 1992 to work at Quest composing the soundtrack of Ogre Battle:

Conquest of the Crystal Palace (2nd title for Quest Co. Ltd.)
Western Kids (Developed by Pixel for Visco Corporation)
Over Horizon (Developed by Pixel for HOT-B Co. Ltd.)
Robocco Wars (Developed by Pixel for IGS Corporation)

He also did one game for the PC-Engine and it was Pixel's last game they developed for Quest: Magical Chase.

There are only a few Non-Japanese game composers I like, but my all-time favorite one would have to be Jake "vert" Kaufman. His composition for "Scurge: Hive" was a prime example of how games made by the Non-Japanese should sound like in terms of music, as well as his composition for Contra 4.

I also like the Follin Bros., Geoff and Tim Follin, especially on their soundtrack for Spiderman and X-Men on the SNES and on the Genesis (The Genesis one is my personal favorite since it sounds a little more grittier).

My second all-time favorite composers of all time would have to be Jonathan Dunn, Keith Tinman, and Dean Evans, 3 of Ocean Software's main composers.

That's about it. Most of the composers I like are all Japanese.

I know those composers are good as well as Kaufman's. But have you ever wondered why I only like Japan and their games and composers? Well the truth is, I don't like the Americans, Canadians, Europeans, or Australians. Yes, I too am American, but I just don't like them because they are not as refined as the Japanese are, nor do their stuff has the good quality and caliber that Japan does in their games, cars and everything they manufacture or create. Japan and the Japanese have the better creativity and imagination than we do, not to mention that they have the better manners and respect towards one another. Yes, we have created the video game industry, but we ruined it as well. Japan studied, took what we created, such as video games and refined it to make it better. That's exactly the case with Nintendo- when the Video Game Crash happened in 1983, due to Atari and the terrible games made by the American companies, and the advent of home computers, Nintendo took it upon themselves to try to bring video gaming back to U.S., by figuring out and fixing what went wrong. They successfully did it, and their mascot, Mario became a household name because of this. Nowadays, it is starting to be the same way again but in reverse- Japan and their game companies are failing while the Non-Japanese developers, like WayForward and Naughty Dog successfully create good games- BETTER than what Japan can create in every way possible, and PCs are now to the point where they are stronger and more powerful than consoles again.

The point I am trying to describe is, if it continues to be this way, the game industry will crash again- only this time Japan will not be there to bail us out like last time.

A lot of people here on the Net have said to me that I may be an elitest, racist, weeaboo asshole who's like the Roger Ebert when it comes to video games (i.e. liking only the small, defunct, and obscure Japanese companies that don't make good games) but I would rather be an elitest, racist, weeaboo asshole who is like the Roger Ebert of video games than what I'd like to call " an open-minded patriotic video gamer". That is just how I am, and I am not going to change the way I am for anyone here on the Net or in life in general.

If I have upset anyone, angered anyone, or well, pissed them off, I apologize.

Early-morning updates! I'm working at a building this week where this site is blocked, so that's why I can only post in the morning or at night. I can post from my phone from there, but I can't upload albums or edit the original post.

Anyways, this wasn't a request, but it's an awesome one. Hitoshi Sakimoto's awesome Popful Mail for the Sega CD is up! This bouncy soundtrack was composed using the SCD's sound hardware in conjunction with the YM2612 and the PSG, so it sounds like an enhanced Genesis game (which it is, actually LOL.) Definitely check it out!

And also, Boktai - The Sun in your Hands is in the GBA section! The titles are untagged, as I'm not familiar with the game, and there's 113 tracks. It sounds pretty good, though! I'll be back with the sequel tonight or tomorrow morning. :)

Can't turn down a Follin request, even if it's not my favorite! The tunes in Ultraverse Prime are pretty good by game music standards, but really pale in comparison to the production quality of Future Tactics: the Uprising. That 7 minute intor song is pretty killer, though. Soooo cheesy!

And continuing the GBA madness is Boktai 2 - Solar Boy Django. This one's like 3 hours long, and it's really good! So, now who wants to step up and tag all 232 Boktai songs between the two titles? Haha, now THAT's an intense job!

Both games were developed by a company called WILL for Konami and for Kemco.

The first is Suikoden Card Stories, a Card battling RPG that uses the same storyline as Suikoden II, but in card form.

The 2nd game is Mech Platoon.

Suikoden Card Stories was composed by Fumi Ishikawa, and Junko Kawano, while Mech Platoon was composed by Hideki Sakamoto.

I must warn you that the games are 2 VERY EARLY Game Boy Advance soundtracks. Both games came out in 2001, so expect the music to sound pretty bleepish.

Now, i have some more suggestions. I understand that this is a huuuge list that will take many time (and probably space). Maybe you'll do just what you like after listening to.

1) Good old Neo Geo title, Magician Lord. Definetely was a G'nG wannable, and a bit too hard, but i find it's interesting. Also, looks like setting was later used in Crossed Swords (that "second person view" rail brawler).

Magician Lord - Stage 1 Music Dale of Evil Gods - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuVa8pWY5Ks)

2) Godzilla: Domination. Sounds pretty fightin'

06 Tokyo 2 - Godzilla: Domination! [GBA] - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_-1yyw-hXvY)

3) Some more Neo Geo suggestions

2020 Super Baseball
Aero Fighters 2 & 3 (i thought they are already here 0o)
Andro Dunos
Alpha Mission 2
Breakers or Breakers Revenge (looks like 2nd is better remix)
Double Dragon ( Double Dragon (Neo Geo) - Burnov Theme - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgVarkrDLKs) )
Ninja Combat
Over Top (2 or 3 songs but melodic)
Pop 'n Bounce
Zed Blade
Zupapa!

4) Zillion (Sega Master System)

Zillion Music (SMS) - Sega Master System Theme [Pure Stone] - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEsE42YRtws)

5) Kurulin Fusion (PSP)

It's trance remixes of classic music made by Nobuo Uematsu

Okay! Well, I would like the psp soundtracks to GTI Club Supermini Festa for psp, and Ultimate Block party on psp as well!

As far as GBA games, the one game you need to hear is Rhythm Tengoku. It's the Japanese-only predecessor to the Rhythm Heaven series, and it rocks. Not only soundtrack-wise, but as a game. Seriously, everyone here should get the rom, not that I'm advocating piracy or anything. Then there's Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.

Also if PS2 isn't out of the question, could I get you to check out Mojib Ribbon? A japan-only rhythm game (are you sensing a pattern?) that totally rocks with a hip-hop-esque soundtrack.

Well, I know you've been away, so I'm sure you didn't see it, but Mojib Ribbon and Rhythm Tengoku were already looked at and I can't do them. It seems for the most part that when a game has music that can be influenced by the player, it's in a format that's unlike any other, or is a part of the game's programming itself. I will look into GTI Club and Block Party, though!

OK, yikes! The requests are piling up and I have no time to get to them! Be patient, guys, and I'll see what I can do.

For now, grab the AMAZING Fortune Street in the Wii section! There's some great remixes and arrangements of Square and Nintendo songs in it, that's totally worth listening to.
I'm having trouble getting my hands on the images for Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel and Kurulin Fusion. If anyone can point me towards them, I'll see if I can get the music. I'll do a bunch of those Neo Geo games, too.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends! Tomorrow, there will be an EPIC conclusion to the video series that my cohost produces, in which he and I battle to the death, alongside a review of Operation: Logic Bomb for the SNES. Don't miss it!

Not a lot of time to make stuff the past couple days, but I did manage to get a great sounding version of Magician Lord done! This one has a lot of "spooky" sounding songs, some of which are kind of 80's/ New Wave inspired. Grab it in the arcade section!

Alright! Some Neo Geo action! Go grab Alpha Mission II in the arcade section. You'll hear some really nice beats, and surprisingly powerful bass. It's really good!

-size123, I'll look into it. If they all share the same publisher and/or composer, then the sound engine is probably incompatible with the current GBA ripping software.

-uut, do you have a YT link to the song so I know what I'm looking for?

-CabooseMiller101, I can only do the SNES version, but I don't have any room in that account. I can host it temporarily on DropBox, though, since it seems to be so hard to find. I should have it done sometime tomorrow or Friday.

Also, the new podcast should be up tomorrow! It's really late this week because Mike was at the Too Many Games convention. I'm putting the final touches on the editing now.

See ya'll tomorrow!

Hey, ruiner. What's up? I got a few new requests for you, even though the weekend is coming up, lol. And this request is very dear to me and one of my brothers, as we two share a common bond for one of the best pro wrestling games to come from Japan... and I'm talking about Fire Pro Wrestling!!

(NOTE: Not sure if there is room for the PC Engine musics, but I'm taking a chance here, lol)

- Fire Pro Wrestling Combination Tag (PC Engine)
- Fire Pro Wrestling 2nd Bout (PC Engine)
- Fire Pro Wrestling 3: Legend Bout (PC Engine)
- Fire Pro Wrestling (Game Boy Advance)
- Fire Pro Wrestling 2 (Game Boy Advance)

If the GBA Fire Pro musics can't be rippable, then I want to substitue those two with this:

- Thunder Pro Wrestling Biographies (Genesis)

Well, have a great weekend, ruiner, and may VGMs live on!! :D

Yep it's really awesome! Didn't expect some great ost coz haven't passed through 1st stage yet (though game is much more easy than, let it say, Viewpoint).

I did manage to get a great sounding version of Magician Lord done! This one has a lot of "spooky" sounding songs, some of which are kind of 80's/ New Wave inspired.

Thanks, Ed. I finally beat first boss and saw 2nd stage :D Btw what an awesome track of 2nd stage. It has 3 main parts - main riff with drums which use samples, then nice synth line which sounds pretty clear and then some nice distorted synth semi-noise.

Oh, and i haven't replied about Totally Game Boy! PixelTunes episode.

So, i've listened it with a pleasure. Was surprised that Mike didnt choose Mega Man, haha. Thanks for mentioning me there with Turok track which reminds me Bare Knuckle III.
I don't agree that "Inflitration 2" from Metal Gear was boring, when i was listening to - first time ever in ur podcast - i was amazed how great it is. Though i was a bit disappointed that it ended before reaching possible climax.

Anyway, snaaaaaaaaaake! Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!

Hey Ruiner,

Sorry I haven't been around much. Been a busy and stressful summer thus far. Also sorry the last time I requested something it was me asking about games you'd already told me weren't available. Must not have been paying attention.

Do have a couple of requests if they're possible:
Star Cruiser (Sega Genesis) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yND5V85iPHc#t=383)
Ace Driver: Victory Lap (Arcade) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n57kHDQioMI)

OK! Today's a holiday in the US (Happy Independence Day for my American friends!) So I don't have to work! Maybe I can catch up on some requests. Side note: The new episode of PixelTunes is up on iTunes and pixeltunesradio.com right now, I'll have it up in the OP later today. I just wanted to post some of these albums I've done:

PSP

Ape Quest - This was up yesterday, but I didn't have time to post about it. Enjoy a short soundtrack for an RPG, with lots of playful tunes similar to other games in the series.

Arcade (all Neo Geo)

Double Dragon - This was a really underrated fighting game with a great OST. Asiatic themes mixed with cinematic style made for some great tunes.

Over Top - I love these isometric racing games! The Great 1000 Miles Rally series is my favorite, but this game was great, too. The soundtrack is old-school Euro techno. Simple beats, simple melodies, but lots of fun.

Zed Blade - One of the lesser-known Neo Geo shooters, this one had a soundtrack similar to Over Top; crazy techno... most of which are "remixes" of songs that I can't find original versions of. LOL

SNES

Doom Troopers - A special offering, because I wish I had added this to the collection before it filled up. Here's the link:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109623321/Doom%20Troopers%20%28SNES%20-%20ruiner9%29.7z

It's got some great stuff in it from Fletcher Beasley, who's an American film and TV composer, with a few game credits to his name. It's really unique sounding among SNES games, and I'd recommend a listen. Every track offers a different style.

OK, guys! Feels good to have a big release day again! Hope you enjoy the music! I'll have some PSP stuff coming up next, followed by some of the chiptune requests. Ciao amici! ;)

Interesting, Zed Blade's composer is Manabu Namiki (many Cave shmups, for example) and in Over Top there is Keiichiro Segawa (worked with Armored Core 1-2). Funny, Over Top has so many songs. I only heard BGM4 ~Music of the wind~ when i played for some reason.

And, time for a few updates:

PSP

Abunai - Koi no Sousashitsu - Here's a game about... a bunch of super handsome guys with average looking girlfriends solving... a... mystery, of some sort? I have no idea, and information is really scarce on this one, including composer info. The songs are tagged as they were in the game's files, and they seem to make a bit of sense. As for the music, it's all over the place... hip hop beats, light rock, lounge music, Italian... a little something for everyone.

Antiphona no Seikahime - Tenshi no Gakufu Op.A - An RPG about forming a band in order to get your sister's voice back. I think. Anyways, the music is from Tenpei Sato, most well known for his work on the Disgaea series, so give it a listen!

GBA

Yu Gi Oh! - Reshef of Destruction - I had to look up what a "Reshef" is. I think it's an evil god-thing... maybe. Anyways, this is the only YGH game I could rip, so here it is! It's not bad.... it sounds really clear, so you should check it out.

Also, After Burner: Black Falcon was requested, but the music is all from Trans Am, a rock band, and the songs in the game are available commercially so I'm not going to upload it here. I'm sure you can find it in better quality than the measly 128kbps it's encoded in the game, anyways!

Space is getting pretty tight, now...

Today, we've got all three Fire Pro Wrestling games released for the PC Engine, and Fire Pro Wrestling 2 for the GBA! Weirdly enough, the first GBA game isn't rippable, but the second one is. I just don't know. So, expect lots of different themes, including rock, Asiatic, and pop, from all four games. Pretty good stuff!

Also, on the N64, Pokemon Stadium. It's... Pokemon. Fruity, lighthearted music. Not really my jam, but if you like this kind of thing, go grab it. Hey You, Pikachu! isn't rippable.

Tonight or tomorrow, I'll be posting the AMAZING Violent Storm arcade soundtrack. If you enjoy the TMNT: Turtles in Time arcade music, you'll LOVE this one!

Put simply, lack of space. I have 100gb of storage between two MEGA accounts. The account with the NES folder on it is filled to capacity, and the other account only has about 4gb left. It's going to get way too complicated if I start putting games form the same systems in two different accounts. I'm still trying to find a larger storage solution that isn't super-expensive, otherwise I'll have to stop making new soundtracks very soon.

I asked because the rip that's on GH (which I know is the one you're talking about) isn't available because apparently, all of that stuff is kaputski, and Kingdom Hearts Insider's downloads page (which is apparently a backup) only has the crappy rip of Pokemon Stadium 1 that didn't sound good (your rip of Stadium was AWESOME, BTW). And I haven't had any luck in finding working downloads of the songs. If someone could point me in that direction, I'd appreciate it!!

Yeah, looping stuff can be time consuming, especially when there's a lot of songs. It's happened to me, too.

If a couple of you could donate a few dollars to the link in the OP, I could set it up and have enough space to upload TONS more stuff! Oh, Ed, i was trying at least find a way to line out Ninja Assault. And FAILED. I emulated Sega Naomi and went to Sound Test in arcade bios menu, BUT it only playbacks 5 sec of samples.

And there is no way record it while playing because it's lightgun shooter so you can't just stay on level without moving and other sounds.

I have a Game Boy Advance request (I don't know if you still do them, due to space on MEGA), but this soundtrack has NEVER been uploaded on PMH, but it is archived on there. Apparantly they're too damn lazy to rip the sound track since this is a Japanese Only RPG that no one gives a damn about, but I would like the soundtrack to it- it is called Legend of Dynamic Goushouden: Houkai no Rondo.

Hideki Sakimoto did the composition and it was developed by Will for Banpresto in 2003. If you can get the soundtrack to this game in ANY way, even by ripping it from the ROM itself, it would be a god-send, dude. If you cannot, that's OK. I would try to figure it out myself if I have to, that is if it is an easy process.

The ripping tool to extract the music from the ROM only works if the game uses the Sappy music engine. I ran the game through the tool, and got the "no sappy engine found" message, which means that there's literally no way to get the music without playing the game through and recording it manually. That really sucks. Sorry, man.

However, Fire Emblem - The Sacred Stones was! It's a lot bigger than I usually post, but... what the heck. It's very symphonic, so not exactly the stuff I listen to, but I've heard it's regarded as a good soundtrack. So.... enjoy it!

a) No problem. Maybe it will be possible in the future, who knows. Or it would end up on Kaufman's bandcamp.

b) Waiting for your impressions from 2001's Mazan video. Only Red Steel and No More Heroes, both 5 years later, come to mind.

c) Now i wanna mention some vgm i was listening to these days.

Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked by Masafumi Takada. Mostly consists of instrumental hip hop and abstract breakbeat.
Also has some strange tracks with dirty vocoder voice. Like this one, with funky beat.
Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked - Bird of Passage - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1CX67Qy35I)

Heroes of Might and Magic IV. I usually don't like orchestral scores, but this one has very beautiful songs. Example:
Heroes of Might and Magic 4 - Dirt Theme - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KByla_uGhro)

Gravity Rush, little talisman of PS Vita. Didn't expect such classy tracks with saxophone.
Gravity Rush OST - Gravity Raven - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmEUoZHjE4o)

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Pure classic.
Cadillacs And Dinosaurs - The True Colors of Evil (STAGE 8-1) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD6ZOdET7mM)

Lifeless Planet. Sad and beautiful ambient.
Lifeless Planet Soundtrack - Lifeless Planet - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRCOtMMPHw0)

Divine Divinity. Another outstanding orchestral score that breaks my rule. Emotional and powerfull.
Divine Divinity - Run, Zandalor, Run! - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwhJps5-aYk)

Would like to know what you, fellows, are up to these days :)

Yeah, it looks really neat! Kind of like a cross between House of the Dead and Red Steel. Namco put out very, very few Wii games, and none of them did very well (remember, they tried a Wii SoulCalibur but critics hated it.) I think that they just wanted to focus on the Xbox and PlayStation.

Well yeah, anything that he and Jun Fukuda put out is amazing. My favorite is still God Hand, though, because we played "It's a Smile World" at my wedding. :)

Heroes of Might and Magic IV. I usually don't like orchestral scores, but this one has very beautiful songs. Example:
Heroes of Might and Magic 4 - Dirt Theme - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KByla_uGhro)

Gravity Rush OST - Gravity Raven - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmEUoZHjE4o)

Now THIS is pretty good! I love the intro. It gets a little more mellow at the end, which I don't like as much, but I'm gonna track down the rest of this soundtrack.

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Pure classic.
Cadillacs And Dinosaurs - The True Colors of Evil (STAGE 8-1) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD6ZOdET7mM)

Ohhhh, yeahhhh. Obviously, you know I'm familiar with these tunes. :)

Lifeless Planet. Sad and beautiful ambient.
Lifeless Planet Soundtrack - Lifeless Planet - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRCOtMMPHw0)

I just found out about this game through Humble Bundle. I'm a sci-fi fan, so it looks really cool! Ambient stuff, like symphonic, I just tend to tune out unless I really concentrate on it.

Divine Divinity. Another outstanding orchestral score that breaks my rule. Emotional and powerfull.
Divine Divinity - Run, Zandalor, Run! - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwhJps5-aYk)

I hate to say it, but this sounds EXACTLY like music they play in luxury car commercials in the US. It made me laugh, because that's all I can think of!

Other than the podcast, it's been work, work, work, this summer! I'm going on a trip with the family to NY next week, to visit an amusement park and some tourist-type stuff, so that will hopefully relax me a bit. The podcast should be up super early next week (I'm hoping early Monday) because i won't be able to post it while I'm gone!

Wow, that's serious :)

I'm a bit lost track of what Takada-san was doing lately. Both Danganronpa's, i know, and Kid Icarus: Uprising, which had legendary team of composers (Motoi Sakuraba + Yuzo Koshiro + Masafumi Takada + Noriyuki Iwadare + Yasunori Mitsuda)

Obviously, you know I'm familiar with these tunes.

It's this thread who lead me to Cadillacs & Dinos, btw.

I can't say i'm big fan of ambient, but there are at least three titles for me that matters. Silent Hill, Quake I and Baroque (that dungeon crawler with surreal monsters).

:)

What really kicked me in guts, it's from one of Border Down's reviews i've read recently.

The music is standard Taito/Zuntata stuff. Personally I hate elevator music, and I hate this crap 'cause it sounds the same. Shooters should, IMO, feature swooping orchestral tunes, techno, or electric guitars. Or any kind of up-tempo music with a little drive to it.

I know that taste differs, everyone has IMHO, etc.
But it's just like knife in your back :( Especially when it's written in some article by a person who you're respect for what he does (it's admin of NFGgames and author of book about pixelart).

Surprisingly, Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari only has about 9 minutes worth of music. I was able to make the album during the time I was making NARC. Pretty neat. It's not much to listen to length-wise, but the music that's there is playful and fun. Enjoy!

OH! I'm going to be away Monday through Friday, for those who haven't seen above. Sooo, I can maybe take a request from each person and try to get a few done tomorrow. I have packing to do, and an early release of the podcast to put up, so there's not gonna be a whole lot of time. NARC is on it's way, probably tomorrow morning. It's really good, too! I played the game but didn't remember the music, or know that it used a YM2151 plus a few extra pcm sources!

The other ones I need to do with M1 and I haven't found the time to sit down and do it... probably not till after vacation. As far as SMS, nobody's ever requested a rip before, and I didn't own the system, so I didn't make any of my own. It's a bit late with the storage I have left to open a new folder for a new systen. :/ I really wish I had more space!

Btw have you managed to rip the PSP games I requested earlier in this thread?

See above reason. The requests are obscure, so not pre-ripped and I have to try to extract the audio from the game image. I have it in my queue, but it may not get looked at till next weekend when I'm back.

You know what how about you forget about those requests and I give you some new ones to do. Here they are a bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh games for ya:
1. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia (Konami)
2. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Stardust Accelerator: World Championship 2009 (Konami)
3. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX: World Championship 2008 (Konami)
4. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX: Spirit Summoner (Konami)
5. Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX: Card Almanac (Konami)
Also just to let you know that Joshw archive has already ripped a bunch of PSP game music and you can convert the files to MP3 using this (http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_vgmstream) tool. Just have to instill to footbar2000 and you can play the files.

A good number of PSP games have encoded AT3 files that won't work in Winamp or Foobar. In that case, you need to use Sony brand software like Sound Forge or Vegas to decode the files. Foobar is OK, though it doesn't upconvert wav files to 44khz like Winamp does, but Winamp is less compatible with some file formats, even with the latest VGMStream test release. It can be a headache sometimes with PSP. As far as YGH goes, I'll look into those. DS is pretty easy. I'm very tight on space so I probably won't do all 5... do you have a favorite 2?

Drag all of the at3 files at once into an open Soundforge window.
Go to Tools -> Batch Converter.
The Converter window will open with a list of your files.
Select the "save" tab, and click the "add save options" button.
Select the format you'd like to save the files in, choose save directories etc.
Click "run job" at the bottom of the window.
Boom, a bunch of PSP tunes in wav format, or whatever you want!

Somebody here just posted that soundtrack a couple days ago, and I was interested in it too. I watched that same video, and wow... they really knew their Famicom programming! The soundtrack's not bad, either.

So go grab N.A.R.C from the arcade section as my parting gift! Fun fact: This was the first 32-bit arcade game. Crazy, huh? The music runs off the YM2151 chip, same as the Sharp X68000 and some of Konami's arcade games like X-Men. It's pretty good rock 'n roll sounding stuff.

So guys, this is my last post from home, as I leave tomorrow morning. Yesterday I made my own rip of Kid Chameleon (Megadrive)... It was my first one, mmm it feels good. ha ha
But still, I would love to see you doing your own rip of this game, cos I know it sounds different.
I just used Kega Fusion, with the lowpass filter on, and it sounds way better than the stupid vgm files, which are extremely harsh and agressive.
I wish I could record the audio directly from the Genesis though.
Oh yeah also... Some people might think "how is that possible, since Kid Chameleon doesn't have a menu with music selection, etc", but I just used a hacked rom
which let me select levels... So I just had to select levels in which there are no enemies at the beginning, and I recorded for 3 minutes.
The only missing track is the ending music. ha ha (beating the boss is impossible for me!)
So anyway, pleeeeeaaaaaase can you do Kid Chameleon?

ruiner9
07-20-2014, 01:02 PM
Well, I actually DO use VGM, but I use a bunch of audio production techniques that I'm told make it sound a bit better than a traditional conversion. I uploaded Kid Chameleon in the Genesis section. Give it a listen, and let me know what you think!

And yes, I'm back from vacation! It was nice and relaxing, though the arcades there SUCKED. Too many ticket machines. :(

Lord of Vermillion III - card based game..like Magic the Gathering?..

BORDER BREAK gameplay 37(English subtitles) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lMUEAv-OPmE)
Border Break - seems to be most popular arcade mecha PvP, PvE, customization etc game. Tournaments are held etc.

blah blah blah Initial D Stage 7

Storm Racer G Gameplay Demo 1 Lap - Wahlap / Sega - Arcade Heroes - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MgUAgK13uLw)

Say, Ruiner, I have a question- is it possible to create MP3s out of WonderSwan chiptunes? Playing Wonderswan soundfiles on foobar2000 will not work since someone won't create an addon to do that, so I can only use WinAmp. However, I cannot extend the soundfile's time limit.

Battle Shark doesn't work in M1, which is lame since it uses the same sound chip as the Neo Geo, which works fine. I've never even tried WonderSwan chiptunes before. I'll see what I can do. Any particular game you were looking for?

Ah well, I do have a replacement in mind, actually. I would like to request the replacement, Thunder Pro Wrestling: Retsuden (Genesis). Despite the title, it's part of the Fire Pro Wrestling series that me and my brother like (Human and Spike Entertainment represent, lol. :P ).

The only track that is recognizable in this game is the title theme, which was originally used for Fire ProWrestling: Combination Tag and would later be used in Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PS2 (amazing that I can recognize tracks, lol).

Game Boy

Heiankyo Alien - Some really upbeat tunes with nice stereo and echo effects. I really like this one!

Genesis

Thunder Pro Wrestling Retsuden - Good ol' YM synth rock. I like the percussion kit used in this game... sounds like a real drum kit in parts.

PSP

Misshitsu no Sacrifice - Here's a visual novel game with some really awesome tunes from Salamander, the guys who did many of the Super Robot Taisen soundtracks. Worth the download!

Enjoy! I'll be updating the OP with the latest podcast shortly. It's been out for a week, but I was on vacation and didn't have access to update it here. :)

WonderSwan game files are very similar to Game Boy files - you need to write and/ or edit an m3u file alongside it to tell WinAmp where the song is, and how long you want it to play for. I managed to do Arc the Lad - Kijin Fukkatsu
overnight, but I don't have anywhere to host WS/ WSC games, so I just put it in my DropBox for now. Check it out, see what you think:

Hey, guys, i have a question about games in general to discussed. I'm puzzled and mixed. I started trying to tell people that if they're playing jRPGs for plot, characters etc. and complaining about random encounters and other stuff, then they're doing it wrong. Because they must realize that jRPG is just modified good old dungeon crawler, and plot is just a bonus mechanism to involve you more in game. So, combat system is heart of jRPGs and not liking it is such bread'n'butter as not liking shooters. What do u think?

I think you need a balance of both! The plot is what gives you the motivation to keep fighting through the monsters, and the battles are what make the plot scenes so important... because you earned your way there, sometimes barely surviving the way. I don't think one aspect will work without the other. Fighting without a plot is pretty boring, and plot without fighting is... a visual novel, which is also mostly boring! LOL

@Hey Ruiner9 what's the status on my Yu-Gi-Oh requests?

I knew I'd forgotten something from before my vacation! Go grab Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Spirit Caller and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2009 - Stardust Accelerator from the DS section! That's it for the YGH series... both of those soundtracks take up about 400mb of space, and the rest would probably shut me down. I have no idea why DS soundtracks always have so much music in them! (Not that it's a bad thing, unless you're converting to mp3, of course.)

I'll see if I can get the other FZ GBA games sometime soon!

Couple of GameBoy requests up this morning:

F-1 Race - A true portable classic. These tunes brought me back to when I first had a Game Boy!

Capcom Quiz - Hatena? no Daibouken!! - A Japanese-only quiz game which includes some great jazzy renditions of Capcom songs. I recognized Mega Man 2, Final Fight, and Ghosts 'n Goblins to name a few. Worth checking out just for that.

Have a great day, guys!

Good morning, peeps! A few more soundtracks today! Here's what's new:

Genesis

Steel Empire - This was a request from my podcast cohost, Mike. It's a great soundtrack from a steampunk shmup full of galloping basslines and rock-style music. It's really good!

Game Boy

Golf - Some laid-back tracks for your weekend.

Nail'n Scale - Some powerful tracks with great use of stereo. I've never heard of this game, but now I wanna check it out! Too bad there's no composer info.

Power Racer - Sounds a lot like Mega Man NES stuff, and that's a good thing! This composer (Fumito Tamayama) also worked on that Secret Ties game that never got released on the NES, but had an awesome soundtrack.

OK, my friends! Putting the final edits on our all Contra podcast this weekend! If you haven't heard the podcast before, this is a great one to start with. It's really informative and has a TON of awesome music!

Man, it's been a good while since I last posted here....

Anyhow, I'd like to make a few more GBA requests, if that's okay: Is it possible to get HQ rips for Astro Boy: Omega Factor and Advance Guardian Heroes? And while I'm asking, is it also possible to redo my earlier request of Shonen Jump's One Piece in HQ, as well? That's all I'd like to request, for now.

And since it's been a while, I thought I'd add my own contribution again: Here's Nendoroid Generation (http://www.mediafire.com/download/81ccpglgu6rztic/Nendoroid+Generation.rar) for the PSP, which I just recently added to my own rip thread. Very catchy stuff, it is! :)

Hey, MarvelB! That Nendroid title is great! Thanks for sharing! Since you've got it on your thread and I'm running out of storage space, this is me letting everyone know about your own collection of rad VGM. His link is in his sig, so go check him out!

As for your requests, Astro Boy was already uploaded about a month ago, and I've updated Shonen Jump's One Piece so it sounds really awesome now. The new addition is Advance Guardian Heroes, which totally surprised me! I love the Saturn version (I own it, it's expensive, and no you can't have it!) and I expected the same kind of tunes. These are really rockin' electronic jams, though! If I'd known, I wouldn't added one to the GBA podcast. Oh well, there will be more opportunities in the future.

Speaking of which, the Contra episode (coming this Wednesday) came out AMAZING. We go through the series chronologically from NES to X360, and there's a good mix of cool factoids and humor throughout. Even if you don't listen to my show regularly, this is a great one to start off with.

OK, signing off. Cheers, all!

Ya know have you ever thought of just getting rid of some stuff. I mean you could get rid of some of the bigger soundtracks and free up a ton of space and if some people miss out on them then They'll just have to get it elsewhere. Better let people know what you're going to get rid of too.

Hi guys! A couple Game Boy soundtracks went up this morning, but I didn't have time to announce them before I went to work. Here's what's new:

Bases Loaded - Baseball games always seem to have a certain sound, you know? This one is no exception, except that it also reminds me a bit of Tecmo Bowl, too.

Dexterity - An obscure puzzle game with some powerful square bass. Wow, don't have your volume up too high when you start this one up, LOL. Learned that the hard way!

Nemesis - A Konami classic, with some great songs from Michiru Yamane and pals. I hear a lot of the first TMNT Game Boy game in some of these, which is no surprise considering they share some composers.

I have thought about that, but seriously, getting rid of soundtracks to add soundtracks doesn't really get me anywhere, right? Sure, there's a bunch of you who comment and request all the time, and you guys are awesome, but there's also thousands of views this thread gets per month besides that, and they may be looking for that stuff that I'd be taking down. Ugh, I wish I could just afford a subscription to MEGA.

It's a very low-quality, mono sound system. I convert everything at the highest variable bitrate possible, and that's as good as it could get. If you find a higher quality one somewhere, let me know! I'll ask the owner how they did it! :)

Top 10? That's really hard! There are so many amazing soundtracks out there. First off, at the bottom of the first post in this thread, you'll see the Tim Follin collection. I'd recommend those to anyone who wants to start listening to VGM. Also, David Wise's music... namely Battletoads on the NES and The Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES. For the rest, it really depends on what kind of music you enjoy. Check out Mega Man, Bionic Commando, and the Castlevania games if you're liking the classics, Streets of Rage for the Genesis/ Mega Drive if you like dance music, and the Fire Emblem games for the GBA if you like a more mellow, cinematic sound. If you find some you enjoy, let me know, and I (or any of the regulars here) can recommend more like it!

I was just minding my own business this morning, and these soundtracks jumped and tried to take my wallet! I said "no way, you jerks!" and smashed them all into 7zip files, and posted them here so you guys can hear them. Here are the villains:

Game Boy

SD Lupin III - Kinko Yaburi Daisakusen - Some nice basslines in this one, and a very catchy main BGM tune!

Wizards & Warriors Chapter X - Fortress of Fear - I was excited to see this was from Dave Wise, but kind of disappointed in how simple and repetitive it was. There are a few neat tracks, but it's not his best.

Genesis - *The Matt Furniss Edition*

Boogerman - Somebody's a big Matt Furniss fan! Starting off is this little gem, including some great funk, a bit of swing, Matt's signature sick drum samples, and a whole lot of groove. Flatulent Swamps and Boogerville are just so good. Shaun Hollingworth threw his considerable talent at this one, as well.

Chuck Rock II - Son of Chuck - I believe Mr. Furniss ported this soundtrack to the Genesis, but Matt Iveson was the original composer. In any case, it sounds like a Furniss soundtrack so I can't complain! Stone Age Suburbs is so chill and fun to listen to.

ResQ - Another Furniss/ Hollingworth duo. This one got very close to release but never quite made it out. It's sad, because it's got an AMAZING soundtrack! This one joins Tim Follin's Time Trax OST in that list of games with great tunes we never got to hear until recently. There's a repro cart of this at my local game shop, but they want way too much money for it. It's sad, because I really want it.

OK guys, that'll be it for today. Already at work on the next podcast. It's a composer spotlight. Any guesses as to who we're gonna be covering?

Fighting Bujutsu uses a proprietary soundboard which I don't believe has been emulated. It does have an offical OST, though: http://vgmdb.net/album/976

Battle Tryst is an M2 game, there aren't any ripping tools for that. I don't even think an emulator is out that supports that game.

Hey there! :)
I just looked through my vgm list and found some OSTs which could need your special ripping magic! he he

All on SEGA GENESIS!

- After Burner II (believe it or not, there's NO rips of this one.. The OSTs we can find on ffshrine are usually arcade or FM-towns or something else, but I didn't see the Genesis version...)
- Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (childish music but it reminds me when I was 10 waaaaah... Good old times (T_T))
- Battle Squadron (Good old Shmup music)
- Chuck Rock (I loved your Chuck Rock II ost! Why not beginning with this one though? he he it's even more rock'n'roll!)
- Combat Cars (HiNRG 90s techno music!)
- Cool Spot (Cool catchy songs)
- Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf (the intro is METAL...)
- Earthworm Jim ("New Junk City" is one of the most powerful track in history of games)
- European Club Soccer (well I'm European... I have good memories of it even if most of people will find it totally insignificant... ha ha)
- F-15 Strike Eagle II (Good rock songs)
- Flink (some hate it, but I like it, it has some nice dreamy melodies)
- Forgotten Worlds (one of my favorites EVER cos it was the FIRST Genesis game I played lol)
- James Pond II - Codename RoboCod (Cute childish music to remind me my Christmas parties as a child (T_T))
- Jungle Strike (similar to Desert Strike)
- Landstalker (not the best OST ever, and yet, since it's one of the best games in history, I'm totally addicted to that OST)
- Lethal Enforcers (for some reason it makes me think of 80s cops movies, like Lethal Weapon.. ha ha)
- Lotus II RECS (VERY underrated game and ost)
- Rolling Thunder 2 (very rare game which has many chilling songs, I love it)
- Shining Force (I guess it's really NOT your style, but well again, it's my childhood.... Best game and EPIC ost ever...(T_T))
- Shining Force II (Same... lol)
- Sonic 3D Blast (Wow! I discovered that game only in the 2000s, and I LOVE its OST! Catchy, melodious, it's really one of the best Sonic ost ever!)
- Super Hang-On (like After Burner II, I failed at finding the original Genesis OST on ffshrine, so... Anyway catchy melodies, and also it's kinda relaxing)
- The Terminator (Again, it's surprising that this OST is absent from ffshrine... It has some nice tracks...)
- Virtua Racing (Everytime I look for VR music, I find Virtua Racing Deluxe on 32x!! Uuuugh!! I wish I had the ORIGINAL Virtua Racing OST!! :))
- World Cup Italia '90 (lol like European Club Soccer, that one is only for nostalgia purpose XD))

Well! Take your pick! he he
It's too bad you're running out of space though!
Anyway it was just some ideas! If you see something you like, please rip it and let us hear how it sounds! he he :)

Well considering you were able to get the soundtracks I requested as downloads I'm just wondering if you could possible do some more soundtracks? The Games I'm talking about are McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure (Genesis/Mega Drive), Yuu Yuu Hakusho Makyou Touitsusen (Mega Drive)*Note the first two Games I listed were developed by Treasures*, Lemmings 2 (Genesis/Mega Drive), Toy Story (Genesis/Mega Drive), and Snow Bros. (Mega Drive).

Aaaw sorry ruiner9, of course I didn't ask you to rip ALL of them, but like I said, they were just ideas and you could pick just one of them, I would have been happy! he he
Hmmm so let's see...
If I had to pick 5 in that list...
I'd say :
- Forgotten Worlds
- Landstalker
- Shining Force 1
- Shining Force 2
- Rolling Thunder 2

Aaaw I give you a lot of work, huh? There, there... Happy massage time. :)

Ok! I do requests a little differently from most people in the forum... I don't judge by whether I like them or not, only by how much the requester likes them! I've got no problem with doing all the games you've listed, it's just easier for me to keep my queue organized if each person limits themselves to 5 at a time, so I don't get overwhelmed. Once I put your 5 up (or as many as I can of that 5) then you can hit me with your next 5. It seems to work out pretty well for everyone. I've got some arcade games to do first, but I'll work on yours as soon as I can! ;)

Thank you so much for adding those soundtracks to the already expansive list of soundtracks! Also I would like to suggest to you guys a composer who goes by the name Yousuke Yasui to hopefully tackle on the podcast at some point in time, he's defintley one of the most underrated video game composers of all time! I'll provide a few link to some of his work so you guys listen to some of his work!

he he thanks for the OSTs Mentalhog, got them all just now!
They all sound great and actually better than my vgm or vgz files.
The only one which sounds a bit weird is Alex Kidd, I mean the genesis tracks...
The .vgm files sound very clean (almost TOO clean lol), but that one seems to have some weird noise,
or almost as if it had been recorded from an old CRT TV like in the 90s... lol
Well it improves the nostalgia factor I guess, but.. lol
Anyway if you listen to the vgz files, you'll notice they sound different =>

Not so much that. PSX music can't be "captured" by playing the game like on the SNES or Genesis. The game's files have to be reverse-engineered on a computer and the song sequence data extracted. It's an arduous process, so only the well-known games are given the time because it would please many listeners.

What's stopping me? What's stopping me!? I'll tell you the truth- everything:

I expect everyone else to do the soundtracks to unknown games- but unfortunately, people like you want me to do it all myself by using programs, or ripping tools that are just too god-damn complex and hard to work with! Take PSFs for example! Everyone wants to get or play the stupid as hell famous games that everyone likes and wants to make the soundtracks for them to listen to while the unknown games that people should honor and like are all shoved to the wayside!

In fact, you expect that person to actually play the god-damn game in order to get the soundtrack! That is why soundtracks such as Eldergate from Konami or Sonata from T & E SOFT are never going to be well known or honored.

I say- to hell with the famous games and its time to start ripping and respecting soundtracks made from unknown composers or companies for change. It is time for a lot more obscure and unknown RPGs and their soundtracks to finally get the spotlight for once!

Is there a way to extract the tracks? Any programs?

Well it depends on how the ISO looks like...
When I used to download Saturn ISOS, sometimes the mp3s or waves files were included in a .rar file...
It doesn't seem to be the case here though.
But I remember that sometimes I just loaded the ISO with something like DaemonTools or WinCDEmu (I prefer this one cos it's portable)
and then I could extract the tracks with an audio ripper as if it was a common audio CD...
But I don't know if it's the same with Playstation games...

It's too bad nobody even posted the OST on Youtube... Even if it's a long video...
Cos one time, I was looking for an OST, but the only way to get it was to download a video from Youtube...
Then I converted the video to an audio file...
Then I used something like "mp3splitter" and I trimmed the big .mp3 or .flac file using silence detection into several tracks...
Maybe it would be easier this way, actually... lol

To put the Sonata conversation to bed, I downloaded the discs when the request came in. The music is sequenced within the game's software, like Final Fantasy VII or Crash Bandicoot, not streamed compressed audio like, say Grand Theft Auto IV.

Streamed audio is a piece of cake for me... I've done so much of it, I can figure out how to convert nearly any file format to mp3, with a few exceptions.

Sequenced audio is a different story. As I said above, you need knowledge of C+ programming and reverse-engineering to read the code of the game and extract the data. It's beyond most people's skill set, and takes an awfully long time per game, so in the case of little-known titles, the reward isn't worth the effort. That doesn't mean that the music isn't good, it just means that there's not enough demand for somebody to spend hours and hours of hard work to present a soundtrack that only a handful of people will appreciate.

Unfortunately, Evolution01, that's just the way it is. I feel bad that there's so many under-appreciated games out there that you're interested in listening to. It must be really frustrating.

So, let's get on with some GOOD NEWS! I have a great soundtrack today, namely Martial Champion in the Arcade area! After researching the game a bit, I realized I had played played this one in the arcades as a kid and LOVED it. I fired it up in MAME and it was just as good as I remembered. The soundtrack is great, too! The stage loops are a bit on the short side, but the instrumentation is GREAT. There are a whole bunch of different musical themes, from Arabian to Asian, to rock, to electronic, and they're all really well done. I'm looking forward to working on Dragoon Might next, because I had no idea it was a sequel!

Enjoy! :)

Evolution01

Yes, it is frustrating, Ruiner. I just want more people to be interested in those games. But sadly that wouldn't happen. I just wish the demand was there. I mean, there are so many game companies from Japan and the West that made some good soundtracks that are rare and hard to find. T & E SOFT is one of them.

Thanks for Martial Champion. Junya Nakano worked on that soundtrack before he left to work over at Square. It seems like all of the good people that I liked for the music at Konami all left to work at different companies. For example, Miki Higashino who did the Genesis version of Lethal Enforcers II also left to work over at Square, and his sound driver and compositions for that game was awesome, since I liked that whiny synth tune in that version.

Thanks a thousand times!

I admit, I asked Ruiner cos he has a special way of "editing" (or "processing"? he he) his rips so I wanted to hear how it sounds.
Many of Ruiner's OSTs have an unique sound I didn't find anywhere else.
But anyway, I'll keep yours too! It's great! :)

Oh btw... I was opening some tracks of games Ruiner had ripped, and I noticed a few games which had been "normalized". (I prefer to say "compressed" myself)
I'm thinking about Road Rash 1 and 2 on Genesis. They sound quite loud compared to other releases like Golden Axe, for example.
But actually I'm not criticizing, I just wanted to ask a question. (I know that many people actually prefer compressed tracks)
Is it something you still intend to do for future releases, or were they old releases and you changed the way you edit your rips since that time?

Yeah, those were early uploads where I was still experimenting with a good combination of production techniques. I think I used the average RMS method on those, rather than what I use now. One of the things that always bugged me about albums on this forum is the wild variation in quality/ levels. I'd throw a few GB's of music on my phone to enjoy in the car on the way to work, and I'd spend more time adjusting the volume, bass, and treble, than I would actually enjoying the music. So, I decided to use the same techniques across all platforms, with the same tagging methods, so you could grab anything out of my collection and it would all fit together, regardless of the console.

Most people don't even know this, but I always tag "publisher" too, so if you enable that field in your music player, you can spend the whole day just listening to Konami or Capcom tunes!

Here's a nice juicy update! Time for some portable fun:

Game Boy

Amazing Spider-Man - Peter Parker's first outing on the GB had a score by Dave Wise! It's pretty good, if not a little disjointed in parts... but it has a really cool rendition of the 60's cartoon theme song. Worth a download right there!

Operation C - Stereo (re)mixes of the better Contra and Super C tracks. Yummy.

Radar Mission - Sounds a bit cinematic, and kind of marchy. It's pretty good, if you like that kind of stuff!

SD Gundam Gaiden Lacroan Heroes - Sorry, I don't have a lot of positive things to say about this one. It kind of hurts my ears.

Skate or Die - Bad 'n Rad - Another Hidehiro Funauchi game, so if you like the Operation C soundtrack, or either of the Game Boy Castlevania games, check it out!

GBA

Granbo - Man, I wish I knew who wrote this soundtrack, because it ROCKS. Big, bombastic drums and powerful synths make everything stand out. Really worth a listen!

PSX

Ehrgeiz - So Patrick, bad news: GTA Chinatown Wars has over 5 hours of music, and I don't have the space for it. BUT, Ehrgeiz is up! It's a bit larger than I usually do, but it's a great soundtrack and should be in the collection. There's a tagged lower-quality version on Youtube, so if anybody wants to take the time to get all 60 tracks named, I'll upload them. I just don't have the time... I'd rather be making new albums with the time I DO have!

That's it for now! Seeya!

OK! A few more goodies this morning! Here we go!

Genesis

Landstalker - A fantastic sound driver and instrument set makes these tunes almost sound like they're coming out of a Super Nintendo, except with that extra buttery FM synth goodness. Great soundtrack.

Forgotten Worlds - Alph-Lyra, Capcom's in-house band, created the music for the arcade version of the game, and Izuho Takeuchi ported it to the Genny/ Mega Drive. It's a bit on the simple side, technology-wise, but is still a great mood setter for the game.

GBA

Final Fantasy 1 & 2 - Dawn of Souls - This sounds SOOOO GOOOD with the extra clarity from the new GBA ripping method. I was blown away. Grab this one! ...and, um if you know the song titles, please tag it? Pretty please? :)

So, for the bad news... NBA Jam just isn't possible. The music is in a weird hybrid MIDI/ compressed audio format that nothing but the game consoles can decode, so I'm not going to waste any more time on it.

I should have more soundtracks later today, hopefully!

OK, last update for the day... a misfit trio of Genesis titles:

McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure - Perhaps the weirdest Treasure-developed game out there, this one served up some piping hot PCM percussion samples along with it's fancy basslines. Hold the onions!

Toy Story - Some interesting stuff here. Allister Brimble has a unique style, and it definitely comes through on a lot of these tracks.

Snow Bros. Nick & Tom - This sounds like a shmup soundtrack in some parts, and a happy platformer in others. Nicely composed, too!

OK... gonna work on Dragoon Might a bit tonight... hopefully it'll be done soon!

A few more GB requests for ya:
1. Godzilla (Developed by Compile)
2. Maru's Mission (Jaleco)
3. Nekojara Monogatari (Kemco)
4. Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun: Bangai Rantou-hen (Technos Japan)
5. Atomic Punk (Hudson)
Also would recommend looking into Gegege no Kitarou: Kikiippatsu! Youkai Rettou for GBA

I'm not sure how MagnetMan34 does it so quickly... he must be a robot! Final Fantasy 1 & 2 for the GBA has been fully tagged! Thank you so much! Go re-grab this amazing soundtrack in amazing quality right now! :D

Moar STUFF! Check out these Genesis gems:

Rolling Thunder II - This album is jazzy beyond words. I can just picture the suits, sunglasses, as newsboy hats from here.

Shining Force - Marchy and epic. This soundtrack is a classic.

Shining Force II - This one's a little less marchy, but more epic. The instrument set is a lot more realistic sounding. Definitely the better of the two, in my opinion!

OK! I'll have a couple more later, but that's it for now!

:) :) :)

oh wow there's a problem in Rolling Thunder II, with those tracks :

- Selection
- Main Theme

It's quite different from the .vgm or the original game.
I'm not sure how to explain... Hmm in "Selection", you can tell that one instrument pitch is wrong...
As for "Main Theme", normally the drums are a bit more loud. You can barely hear them here.
Gee I wonder what went wrong!
It's too bad cos, as expected, most of it sounds real good, and better than my .vgm files! :)

That's the way "Main Theme" should sound =>

I'm going to listen to Shining Force I and II now. :)
Thanks for all of those!

edit: They're perfect! he he
Thanks! :)

If you like Rolling Thunder 2, you might like Rolling Thunder 3. That one was developed by NOWPRO (Now Production Co. Ltd.) for Namco, just like they did for Splatterhouse 2 and 3. The composers are Rose and "Dick-Boy". No real name is known for the real composers.

By the way, Splatterhouse 2 and 3's composer is Eiko Kaneda (Milky Eiko).
