I think I'll try requesting most of these requests to be related to E3
Shenmue (DC and Xbox?)
Shenmue 2 (Xbox or DC Not really sure)
Grabbed by the ghoulies (Xbox)
Final fantasy 7 (PS1) (it might be on FFshrine but I'm curious to see your rip of it)
Ready to rumble round 2 (GBA)
Take all the time you need

I think this is pointless, since it is a very easy to find album.

Yeah, I wasn't going to waste several hours doing a FF7 rip just to see if it's different from other people's. :P

Also, Shenmue has 300 tracks of untagged and untimed music, and Shenmue II has the same with over 500 tracks. So, sorry... but not gonna put myself through that! LOL

Only had the time to do a couple albums over the weekend, so here they are:

Dragon Ball Z - Hyper Dimension (SNES) - This was a pretty late game in the system's life (1996), so there are a lot of good quality samples in the music, probably because of cheaper memory costs for SNES chips. This makes the music sound really rich, and the compositions are pretty unique.

The Granstream Saga (PSX) - Ironically, this one sounds more like an SNES game than the one above! The music and sounds are pretty simple, but there are a few OK tracks in here if you look hard enough.

I'll hopefully have a few more releases later on today.

See ya!

Hi guys!

Antosh has tagged most of The Granstream Saga (PSX), but there are still a dozen or so unknown tracks. You can grab it in the OP now, and thanks, Antosh! If anyone else can help with the remaining tags, that'd be awesome!

See ya later today with some more stuff!

ruiner9
06-23-2015, 08:10 PM
Howdy, children! Have a seat a look at the new stuff I brought today.

PSX

Bugs Bunny - Lost in Time - Fans of Looney Tunes music should appreciate this.

The Contra Adventure - Don't get me started on this game... just... don't.

Contra - Legacy of War - They made two of these dang games for the PSX! Incredible.

Game Boy

OK, I know that MarvelB already has done some of these, but I really wanted to add them to my collection anyways. if you already have his, mine won't offer anything new, so don't worry about it. They are:

Power Rangers - Time Force and Action Man - Search for Base X, both done by Iku Mizutani, and Fushigi no Dungeon - Fuurai no Shiren GB2 - Sabaku, co-composed by Koichi Sugiyama of Dragon Quest fame.

There are a few I can't do:

Tail 2 Nose (Arcade) - Emulation is bad, there's a nasty hum under most of the songs in M1.

DT Racer - Encrypted files, and has music from Tiesto anyways.

Yannick Noah All Star Tennis 2000 - Can't find the game.

Enjoy! :D

This thread is so enormous, I didn't take the time to re-read everything, but has anybody already requested "Conker's bad fur day" on Nintendo 64?
Sorry if it's been requested already!
Oh, and... If it's not possible, how about "Conker Live and Reloaded" on Xbox?
It's a remake and the music seems cool too!

I was watching a let's play by Pewdiepie (please, don't throw rocks at me! lol) on Youtube and it made me want to listen to this OST... ha ha
Anyway thanks already if you can do it!

Anyways, yes, the N64 game has been requested and it has WAY too many tracks. They're unlabeled and untimed, and it would be way too big a project to complete. Here are a few PSX racing soundtracks:

Destruction Derby 2 - It was mentioned that the two bands featured in this game were local bands to the devs and they were no longer active... the truth is that they were the bands of two of the members of the dev team itself! Grab this one only if you like garage rock and metal, because that's all you're gonna get.

Tommi Makinen Rally - Some decent 90's electronica tunes in this one.

I'm working on the massive Xak II album right now, so I may not have too many releases over the next few days while I listen to and edit over 40 tracks.

Hooray!

MOV_Games
06-25-2015, 08:55 PM
Right, Tommi Makinen Rally sounds fine and there are no clicks, the music is louder than I was expecting it to be too as in game it's almost inaudible. However, like V-Rally before it there is a two second delay at the start of each track. I didn't mention it before as I thought it may have been how the V-Rally songs were on the disc, but since these songs also have the exact same length of delay it might be your ripping program. The Menu music isn't in the rip either, which was the one song I was after most. Oh well.

Destruction Derby 2 has a click at the start of track 7, but apart from that it's fine.

I haven't been able to find some PC-98 stuff so I figure I should request them here...!

Duel Succession
First Queen
First Queen 2

First Queen 4

The First Queen series appears on multiple platforms across the different titles, I was hoping you could work some magic on the PC-98 versions. Hi guys!

Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Xbox) is now up in the OP! This was a pain in the neck to rip! There are about 180 tracks, and they were all spread across 6 different audio files. So I had to go in and snip out every track and make it it's own audio file. It's a great Grant Kirkhope soundtrack, and it only exists here (http://www.raregamer.co.uk/?games=4790) as an incomplete soundtrack. So, if you'd like to use that page to help tag these, be my guest! LOL

I'm off-site for work all week so I only have time for about one game a day in the wee hours of the morning. Here's the new one today:

Kuroshitsuji - Phantom & Ghost (DS) - Evidently this was a game based on an anime which was called "Black Butler" in the US, though the game never came out. Just another reminder to always use the the Japanese title if the game wasn't localized! This was requested under the Black Butler name and it took me a while to figure out that Kuroshitsuji - Phantom & Ghost was the same thing. :) Anyways, there are some really beautiful pieces in here, and even though it's a Square Enix game, I still couldn't find the composer. Such a bummer.

Have a great day, guys!

Regarding the Kuroshitsuji rip, I listened to it and when I got to track 9, I thought it sounded similar to the music that Yoko Shimomura composed for the first and second Kingdom Hearts on PS2. Hey, sorry to be a pain, but would you mind re-ripping Kirby Super Star Ultra? The one that is currently on here has an annoying popping noise underneath almost all the tracks (I first noticed it on "Green Greens). And I have heard that those can happen if you rip from an emulator, but I didn't know how you specifically get the music. So, do you know of a way to... a) Get rid of the popping b) Rip in a different way c) Explain how I could rip the music myself? Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Also thanks for the tons of other great rips on this page, this is typically the first place I go to find a soundtrack.

---------- Post added at 05:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 PM ----------

Also, please note that they are not the standard pops heard under certain tones and instruments, I am aware that those are normal, they are heard at seemingly random times and are more noticeable on high quality equipment (i.e. home stereo systems, headphones and ear buds (I first noticed them while listening with really crappy ear buds, then played the music through my nice stereo to confirm that it wasn't them)

Hello again. Lately, I was browsing through some obscue TecnoSoft vids on YouTube and I came across this. Last year, I requested Herzog for the PC-88, but I watched this video, I was thinking "This sounds familiar", so I played the track from the video, and what do you know? This was the same track... for the Sharp X1 version, lol. :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRGLuFxUs7I

But I'm not angry about it, lol. In fact, I am happy to have a version that is sort of rare to find and listen to. nx666 managed to find the actual PC-88 version for me (which got posted on his topic yesterday). But regardless of what version of this game, the music still sounds awesome. Thanks once again!! :D

OK Request time and think I might suggest some arcade games
Dungeons and dragons tower of doom
Dungeons and dragons shadow over mystara
Alien vs predator
Golden axe the revenge of death adder
Wild west C.O.W boys

Fixed it since it was late at night and I lost track of how many games there were so now there's 5 instead of 6

Well, I was trying to get at least one soundtrack out this morning but unfortunately Tales of the Heroes Twin Brave (PSP) and Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 3 (PSP) both use sequenced music and can't be ripped. Hopefully I'll have some time this holiday weekend to catch up on my growing queue!

(edited it since the original name I had on it made it sound like it was the console version)

Just to help you out, there was a release of D&D: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara in a collection called D&D: Chronicles of Mystara. Even has some remixed tracks thrown in the JP version along with the original arcade soundtrack! Thread 178607 check it out. :)

Games that are download-only generally aren't rippable because their encryption is different on each unit it's downloaded to. Sorry!

And wii version? Zombie Panic

90% of WiiWare game soundtracks are sequenced to save space. I'll take a look at it, but I'm not confident I'll be able to.

EDIT: Nah, after unpacking the WAD, there's just one 12mb file called "resources.pak," which is the entire game. It would be MUCH bigger if there were streamed audio in there.

How 'bout a couple hundred more tracks?

What's more American than a British game about drinking and poop, huh? That's right! Conker - Live & Reloaded (Xbox) is now up in the OP! The music in this game is dynamic, so that's why some of the tracks are split into small pieces.

Enjoy!

“Who’ll be the hero?” Ed and Mike bust through the gates and bring you Violent Storm, a hilarious Konami arcade brawler featuring an eclectic and fantastic soundtrack! The music was co-composed by Kenichiro Fukui, famous for his work on the Front Mission series and his membership in Nobuo Uematsu’s band “The Black Mages.” Every song in this game is stellar, and some will even have you singing along to cheesy 80’s lyrics!

The Tracklist:

Violent Storm (Konami, 1993, Arcade) – Kenichiro Fukui, Seiichi Fukami

Anyway, I found a way for you to rip what I requested earlier: Makeruna! Makendou Z. This was Fill-in-Cafe's last game before their bankruptcy. Here is a link to some tools and instructions on how to rip PC-FX audio files. My reason to have this is to expand not only the Fill-in-Cafe Support Thread, but also to create a DATAM Polystar Support Thread:

vgmrips ? View topic - Tools to extract audio from PC-FX games? (http://vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1973)

Man, OK... Got a teeny bit of free time to get a few done... the soundtracks that need to be recorded longhand are going to have to go on the back-burner for a bit because I simply don't have enough spare hours to do them. So that's going to affect Magma Dragoon and CaptainGordon, mostly. I'm just trying to get a lot of the automated and streaming audio soundtracks out to shorten this HUGE queue. I'm going to limit requests to 3 instead of 5 at least for the summer for my own sanity! :P

Anyways, here's what I squeaked out today:

Super Nova (SNES) - Otherwise known as Darius Force outside of my home country. No idea why they deleted the Darius name for the US. The series exists pretty strongly here!

LocoRoco (PSP) - This game... THIS.... GAME.... HAS THE CATCHIEST THEME MELODY EVER. I haven't played it in like 10 years and I STILL hum it to myself once in a while. And now I've had to listen it again, so I'll never be rid of it! :)

Crossed Swords II (Neo Geo CD) - This presented me with a problem. There's only like 2 games in existence that are exclusive to the Neo Geo CD, so do I make a section for it? I dunno. It's in the arcade area for now.

Scurge - Hive (DS) - If you haven't heard this amazing Jake Kaufman soundtrack yet, check it out. It's totally worth the download... fully tagged and timed, too!

So I couldn't do the Spider-Man game that Knivesman requested... I tried the PS1, DC, and N64 games and they all came up nill.

Enjoy, guys! All of today's stuff is great!

Actually, I can think of a couple of other cool NES soundtracks that could use some ripping: ;)

-Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper (Game was developed by Natsume, so of course the soundtrack is at least above average)
-Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (Konami platformer that was Japan-exclusive until an overseas release via Virtual Console release a few years back. This game's soundtrack actually comes in two different flavors: The original Disk System version, and a "remixed" soundtrack when the game got ported to cartridge format a few years later. Think you can grab both versions?)

A couple of vertical shmups to brighten your weekend!

Battle Bakraid (Arcade) - A nice FM soundtrack with some great melodies.

Battle Garegga (Saturn) - The Saturn version contains both the original FM soundtrack as high quality redbook audio, and an arranged soundtrack. It only made sense to rip it! It's got some great dancy tracks, and the original soundtrack is really impressive considering it's just a YM2151 and and OKI sampler chip.

Happy listening!

I just checked the pre-ripped soundfiles from the game, and then went ahead and ripped the ROM myself. Only 20 tracks can be extracted. Those two tracks must not appear in the game's ROM as traditional sequenced music. Sorry! Tags are always welcome! Send me a PM with a list of the songs in order they appear now, and then below that, a list of songs in an order that makes sense for the soundtrack (that part is optional.) There is a level select, but at the start of most levels a person immediately talks to you which makes a loud sound that can't be avoided. In other levels you can't stand there and record without enemies making noises. I'm afraid it's just impossible.

Whoops. Sorry bout that. They'll be on back burner then. Still the Cosmic Fantasy series is pretty good. The heroine Saya is actually pretty hot, and her voice actor was Ayeka from Tenchi Muyo!, to boot! Although, I already requested some games, I will begin creating a HAL Laboratories Support Thread in honor of Satoru Iwata, who passed away recently. He worked for HAL before Nintendo. Here are my requests:

Eggerland Mystery (MSX)
Meikyū Shinwa (MSX)
Eggerland (FDS)
Eggerland – Departure to Creation (FDS)
Rollerball (MSX)

I will wait patiently on my previous requests.

Hey ruiner! I don't have any requests this time. I just wanted to recommend a game for you to play through some time. It's called Eternal Sonata and it came out for 360 and PS3 a few years back. It's a game based in a dream world of the dying composer, Chopin. It has 8 pieces by Chopin and the rest of the music is done by Motoi Sakuraba. Me and my BF are playing through the PS3 version right now and we've made it to chapter 2. We love it so far!

I've heard great things about it. I'll have to check it out some day, if just for the Sakuraba soundtrack!

Thanks to miniluigi008, Touch Detective 2 and a half (DS) has been ordered and tagged! Thank you! :)

Hopefully I'll have another soundtrack or two in the morning *crosses fingers*

Yo, guys! Wanna ask u.

There are so many systems with cool games available for them - computers, consoles, handhelds etc.
With years and experience you start to separate your favs, your "played, was fun, next" and so on. I'm interested if you have kinda a number of titles for each platform that you played that defines that platform for you. It's not equally "list of favs" (cause y may end up not liking it much but it assosiates with that console for you) nor "most notables/generally accepted". I'm wondering what come out of ur mind when you come across this and that system. I'd even say:

What is each system for you? Paint answer in game titles and, if u wanna, express ur feelings.

Wow, that's a deep question! OK, I'll do 3 per console:

Atari 2600

Warlords - Loved playing it with my dad and grandpa.
Reactor - First video game music I ever heard. A historical moment!
Barnstormer - Not a very popular game, it just involved flying a side-scrolling plane through barns, but we had tons of fun trying to get high scores in this one.

NES

Super Mario Bros - The reasons here should be obvious!
Bionic Commando - Still one of my favorite games of all time.
Battletoads - A game that represented great music, visuals, and gameplay.

SNES

Super Mario World - It was the only game I had with the system for a while.
Super Castlevania IV - This was what made me realize what the SNES was capable of, graphically and musically.
F-Zero - Another game I played to death as a kid. Any game with Mode 7 gameplay was easily identified as an SNES game.
Honorable mention: Street Fighter II - Listen to my fighting games PTR episode for the story about this one. :)

Genesis/ Mega Drive

Flashback - This was the first game I really researched in terms of whether to get it for the SNES or Genesis. I'm glad I got this version because it's so much better!
Contra: Hard Corps. - One of the best. The visuals and audio just SCREAM "Genesis!"
Sonic 2 - I don't think I ever owned Sonic 1, because I got the console very late in it's life. So this is my "mascot game."

Saturn

Panzer Dragoon - Oh man, what a treat this one is to play. So amazing.
Guardian Heroes - Lots of people discovered this game much later on due to it being from Treasure, but I had it when it was new. Still have the same copy, too!
Sega Rally Championship - Screw Daytona! This was the REAL Saturn racing game! I mastered this one as a kid. It probably taught me how to drive in the snow!

PSX

Driver - The open-world driving and realistic physics made this one one of my faves.
Ridge Racer - Bought it on launch day with the PSX! This game IS Playstation, as far as I'm concerned.
Einhander - This game is always my benchmark when trying a new Playstation emulator. The detailed fast-moving graphics are some of the best on the system!

OK, I'll stop here (for now.) What are your thoughts?

Sorry, no time for long write-ups, this list is just for systems I personally owned at that time.

VIC-20: Buck Rogers, Lode Runner

C-64: M.U.L.E., Elite, Paradroid

Amiga: Dungeon Master, Carrier Command, Turrican 2

PC-Engine: Bomberman, Final Match Tennis, Rainbow Islands

SNES: Mario Kart, Final Fantasy V, Shiren the Wanderer

MS-DOS: Ultima Underworld, X-Com, various Lucasfilm adventures (this is cheating, I know)

Saturn: Sexy Parodius, Solo Crisis, Dragon Force

PSX: Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Metal Gear Solid

Windows 9x: Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Team Fortress (Classic)

N64: Mario 64, Majora's Mask, Conker

Console kid :)

Haha, yeah... I grew up with a Mac SE that we had like one game on, called Cosmic Osmo. We didn't do the C64 or anything like that. It wasn't till the Pentium 2's were out that we even got a Windows machine! That's why all my game memories are on consoles!

Dragon Half (PCE-CD)

Okay, Knivesman, I'll play along with this. What three games came to mind for the systems I've owned (or used to own) and played?

Nintendo
- Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - The very first Castlevania game I played. Would never have liked the series had I not played the superb Super Castlevania IV years later.
- Super Mario Bros. 3 - Who'd never want to leave out Mario, lol? This was very fun and me and my brothers enjoyed this game so much.
- Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos - My first time played this beloved, but very difficult game. It was so awesome, and the design of the secondary protagonist Ashtar was so cool, too (not to mention the rad music, lol).

Super Nintendo
- Super Castlevania IV - Same thing with ruiner; graphics and music got me into the system as a kid
- Mega Man X - As a Mega Man fan, when I played this, I thought that the music and graphics were the best I'd ever seen for a SNES game and this instantly became a favorite classic that I still play from time to time (I also thought X2 and X3 were good, too)
- Final Fantasy II - The very first RPG game I played. When I first tried it, I didn't learn the concept of how to play RPGs; only until a few years later did I finally get it, lol. :P

Game Boy
- Super Mario Bros. 2: Seven Golden Coins - The first game I played for the Game Boy. This was a favorite when I played this, although the music was a little repetitive with variants of the same theme.
- Kirby's Dream Land - Another very fun GB game that I played when I was young. I mean, what is cuter than an adorable little pink creature sucking up his enemies?
- Operation C - Very hard game, but was worth to play when things were getting dull, lol. :P

Sega Genesis
- X-Men - This came bundled when we got the Genesis for Christmas in 1992. This was an awesome game that me and my brothers would played, although the difficulty and the unusual way to get to the last stage almost turned us off to the game.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Also came bundled with our Genesis. My brothers and me liked to have so much fun playing this game, we'd almost never wanted to stop, lol. :P
- Shining Force II - This was my very first Shining Force game that I have played, and still remembered very fondly. :)

Nintendo 64
- Pokemon Snap - This was a fun game to play. The music was very good and varied by different styles. One of my favorite pictures to take was the dancing Snorlax ones (because Snorlax is my favorite Pokemon -_-)
- WWF No Mercy - Undisputedly THE BEST N64 wrestling game ever made (Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 comes second, IMHO).
- Gauntlet Legends - Prefered this port over the PSOne version, since it was more worthy to play. Wish I could find this and play it again (not on an emulator, lol).

Sony Playstation
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - My favorite Castlevania game (and everyone else's), this truly defined the Metroidvania era in terms of story and gameplay (not to mention the music, too)
- Wild ARMs - This became an instant favorite the first time I played it. I mean, who else could successfully mix the wild west with medieval sorcery and future techonology? Music was awesome, too.
- Final Fantasy VII - Awesomeness at its best. Sadly never managed to beat the game (but thanks to downloading it on my PS3, I might get a chance this time. :) )

(The following are recent, but I should mention them anyways, lol)

Game Boy Advance
- Fire Pro Wrestling - Me and my brother (who are huge Fire Pro marks) were overjoyed when this finally came overseas. This became a favorite of ours until the overseas version of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PS2 came out, and still beats out the nerfed sequel any day.
- Final Fight One - Remake of the original. Was very fun to play during breaks from working at McDonald's during my final year of high school in 2002.
- The Three Castlevania GBA Games - Like nx666, I know this is cheating, but I wanted to mentioned this anyways. These three took up most of my time during boring days.

Sony Playstation 2
- Dynasty Warriors 2 - This game marked my interest in Chinese history (specifically the Three Kingdoms period), was very fun to play (despite the poor voice acting and small amount of stages and characters), and I've been a fan of the game, its sequels, and it's spinoffs since I first played this (and still am).
- Batman Begins - Liked the concept of sneaking up around bad guys and knocking/smashing things to scare the s*** out of criminals (not to mention how they see Batman when they get REALLY scared s***less).
- Fire Pro Wrestling Returns - When this game came out, me and my brother always played this, as this was the best in terms of customization and roster (500 playable wrestlers!!)

Sony PlayStation Portable
- Mega Man Maverick Hunter X - A remake of my favorite Mega Man X game. Still enjoyed it, along with the added bonus of playing as the secondary antagonist, Vile. Just wished that Capcom had remade X2 and X3, though, rather than screwing the Mega Man fans (me included).
- Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles - Yet another Castlevania game, lol. A remake of the true classic CV game Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, this was very fun to play (along with the unlockable original game and a revised version of SotN).
- Gradius Collection - A collection of one of my favorite shmup series. This was very good to play, not to mention the thrill of playing Gradius Gaiden for the very first time. :)

I also own an XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii, but due to not having much games (except for the XBox 360), my memories of games from those systems while be revealed in the future. Thanks, Knivesman, for such a concept. :D

Such a fun challenge but brutally difficult to do. I had to leave out so many memories ...

NES:
Megaman 3 - Many would pick 2 over 3 ... and while both were iconic, I give 3 the slight edge. The standard for platforming gameplay and a near perfect OST.
The Legend of Zelda - My dad and I spent so many hours exploring this game, sharing discoveries and fighting tips. The first time I recall drawing maps to help me find my way around.
Zanac - I'll be surprised if anyone else remembers this one. A very smart shmup that adjusts to your skill level. I still play it regularly.

Gameboy:
Operation C - Not enough room to fit Contra or Super C above but I spent just as much time with this one if not more. Loved the remixed tunes as well. Some were far superior to the originals.
Final Fantasy Legend 2 - An RPG in my pocket! Made those long car rides enjoyable. Still a little disturbed over Apollo's meltdown near the end ...
Pokemon Red/Blue - I honestly tried to catch them all. It's a shame no one else in my area played this one.

Genesis:
Gunstar Heroes - How can you not love Treasure?
Gaiares - Hard as nails but rewarded you with awesome tunes and lots of unique levels/bosses.
Mutant League Football - Best. Sports game. Ever.

SNES:
Chrono Trigger - My favorite game of all time. Will never be outdone.
Final Fantasy 2(IV) - I played the first one and enjoyed it ... but this one made me a Square junkie. FF3 further cemented it.
Axelay - It's a shame more folks didn't get to experience this one.

Sega CD:
Lunar: Eternal Blue - Working Design's masterpiece.
Vay - The first RPG I owned. (the rest were borrowed) The cut scenes and VOs blew me away. It was like an interactive Saturday cartoon.
Popful Mail - So short but more brilliance from Working Designs. If only the gameplay were less quirky (and brutal).

PS1:
Chrono Cross - A strange departure from Trigger but a classic in its own right.
Castlevania: SotN - Rented it on a whim and was immediately hooked.
Alundra - Like Zelda ... but with exceptional writing.

N64:
F-Zero X - Loved the addition of all the drivers and the emphasis on knocking them out of the race. Chasing that "Rival" arrow was half the fun.
Star Fox 64 - Can they please go back to this formula again?
Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Can't add any more superlatives than haven't already been handed to this one.

PS2:
Final Fantasy X - The last "great" Final Fantasy. I'd put this one in the tier of FF4/6/7.
Shadow of the Colossus - The most "Wow" inducing game I can recall. There is nothing else like it.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - The Shagohod chase scene defines epic.

Gamecube:
F-Zero GX - The penultimate racer. Can I get a sequel please?
Super Smash Bros Melee - I laughed at the concept ... but the game was too fun to ignore.
Metroid Prime - I can remember the first time I saw the reflection of Samus's eyes on her visor and I couldn't fathom graphics getting any better than that.

PSP:
Ys Seven - Action RPGing done right. Possibly the greatest OST ever to go with it.
Dissidia 012 - The reason I got a PSP and worlds better than I thought it would be.
Mega Man Powered Up - Possibly the most replay value of any Mega Man. I wish 2 and 3 would've gotten this treatment ...

Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - The creativity in this game is unsurpassed ... much of the music too.
Punch Out!! - A fav built more on nostalgia than anything else.
SSB Brawl - Couldn't pass it up after Melee.

Steam/PSN/etc:
Portal - Possibly the best puzzler ever and one of the few with an actual plot.
Warriors Orochi 3 - I had already long been a Warriors fan. This one was a love letter to me.
Castle Crashers - Nothing like crashing a few castles with the next generation (my two boys).

I think this is as far as I'll go. Don't need to take up any more real estate on this thread. XD

Here goes mine:

FC / NES
Recca - This is one of the first games that pop up in my mine when I think of the name "Famicom". JewWario (now passed away) can explain it to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUqlbS_YFJU

Super Mario Bros. - I was born, just a few months before this first video game of mine was released. It was one of the many carts that came with Duck Hunt. It helped me stick with Nintendo ever since I was 4 years old.

Spartan X 2 - The sequel to Kung-Fu Master arcade which both don't get as much attention as the NES Kung-Fu port. Not even their relatives like Irem's Vigilante, the GB Spartan X and especially this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efr9EQkbCSQ

SNES
Star Fox - Most people prefer the "Do A Barrel Roll!" origin: Star Fox 64. But to me, the original was like the "Golden Age of My Childhood" game. I didn't care if it was inspired by the extremely highly-rated Star Wars franchise, Hajime Hirasawa blew me away with his Star Fox Main Theme. And did you know he was also responsible for the music of Time Twist, the last FDS title Nintendo published?

MOTHER 2/SNES EarthBound - When I first saw this game in a GamePro magazine my brother was subscribed to, I though it was odd. So odd, it's the promotion's fault for making me ignore it. After seeing Ness appear in the first Super Smash Bros., followed by fully accessing the Internet for the first time and checking out Nintendo.co.jp's list of Japan-exclusives, I became more interested in lesser-known games and franchises over popular ones because they are like hidden rare gemstones. Anyway, MOTHER 2/SNES EarthBound is the only game in the series I beat from the beginning to the end a few times. The first one, MOTHER 1/EarthBound Beginnings was played from someone else's saved game that came with a used official copy of MOTHER 1+2/NES+SNES EarthBounds, while in MOTHER 3/GBA EarthBound, I am stuck in the middle of it and lost some motivation in playing it due to too many life concerns and projects while my parents wanted me to be productive.

Mega Man X2 - This game made me lose my first girlfriend who I went to school with. The BGM was pretty darn good and the vehicle additions were very nice. I also enjoyed super-sizing different weapons. I rented this game back when it was new at the now-closed Blockbuster Video store.

N64
Wave Race 64 - This game's soundtrack was so amazing back then, and while it was new, my brother told me that its soundtrack can be found at Tower Records, but there was no Tower Records in nor near my hometown. Not even Blockbuster Music had it. Now, I know that it was released only in Japan. ARRRGH!

Goldeneye 007 - My brother forced me to buy this game, and I wondered why. I also remembered seeing an adult playing it at a local Wal*Mart at the second Bunker level with Natalia in it. My favorite part of the game is Proximity Mines Multiplayer Mode. I used to plant each mine into every starting point and cause multiple kills. XD

Blast Corps - This game looks like a tribute to The ThunderBirds British puppet show, where numerous vehicles are used to save the world. There's also giant mechs to pay tribute to Japanese mechs I guess. The BGM settles my mood. This game became a Nico Nico Douga fad for a short time. Here are some related meme videos:

???????? - ????????? ? ??????:GINZA (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm13615169)

MD/GEN
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - This was probably the most-played Sonic game in my childhood. I even played this during free time in elementary school.

Thunder Force IV - The song "Fighting Back" heard in one of the stages of this game, sometimes wakes me up cheerfully every morning. Even though the game's difficulty usually hates me, I still play it occasionally.

Gunstar Heroes - Back then, I didn't remember see this game at rental stores like Blockbuster Video. But now, I find it as fascinating as Thunder Force IV, but in a different genre.

Saturn
Asuka 120% Limited - The creators of this game were at their best before its developer Fill-in-Cafe died. Even on the Easiest Difficulty, it still takes a lot of button-mashing against CPU players, but for human players, it depends. I support the Fill-in-Cafe history, especially when I live on my own.

Nekketsu Oyako - Technosoft is one of my favorite developers, and this game of theirs is one of my favorites of theirs, all because of specific Hyakutaro Tsukumo songs. The Saturn version's whole soundtrack blows every bit of the PS1 version's, except for Stage 4-2 (49th Floor). The PS1 version's song was at its limit, and when compared to the Saturn version's, it explains why some argue that low quality chiptune usually beats high-quality enhanced versions.

Sega Rally Championship - Me and my brother immediately bought it after seeing the WOW factor of this commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHU5rkNp2T0

It's Replay BGM was also so amazing, it's even fitting with real Rally racing videos like these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXi-ibYkzyI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kt7sq7F3C8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNCqtH53Wfk

And here are some obscure platforms

FM Towns
Asuka 120% BURNING Fest. - I am one of the few that owns even 2 official copies of this game. It's the very beginning of an underrated franchise. It's user-friendly and was the first all-girl fighting game without hentai content. It's not even Sailor Moon meets Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes. It's like an originally created plot about typical school girls fighting each other with school occupations as their weapons. Besides that, some of its elements predate Guilty Gear and Arcana Heart.

Mad Stalker: Full Metal Force - A slightly enhanced port of the Sharp X68000 version. It's a nice touch for one of the games that inspired Guardian Heroes according to a Nintendo Power magazine before that brand ended. There's unlimited continues so you can comfortably try to beat it.

Genocide Square2 - Two enhanced games in one port! Kickass music in two different forms, too!

This is all I can post for now. I might not update any further, but perhaps I can post handhelds next.

Wow, that's a deep question! OK, I'll do 3 per console

About Panzer Dragoon. Everyone seems to prefer Zwei in every way; i personally think that music in PD1 and Saga is more interesting. Saga's is, well, pretty experimental with all those percussive elements. And Yoshitaka Azuma's score for first game is something special. Though, of c Zwei had some cool tracks, too.

I'm also saying this cause i'm catching up a virus of saturnomania... Well, i stated before that here we only had Atati 5200 and NES clones in mid-90s, and then switched to Genesis and PS1 (Also, ZX spectrum -> PC route). Thankfully nowodays you can learn about all those gaming systems you didn't really know they existed back in time, easier to import (though prices...) etc.

"Screw Daytona!" - Let me sing for ya. Daaaytoooonaaaa leeet's gooo awaaaaaaaay...

Sorry, no time for long write-ups, this list is just for systems I personally owned at that time.

Did you enjoy FF5's job system? I think it's awesome. Especially that "monster catcher". I don't really like that later series decided that SUMMONERS ARE SO IMPORTANT OH MY GOD, so i played both FF5 and FF Tactics without any use of them, lol.

Speaking of Ms-Dos adventures, have you played "Torin's Passage"? Love its surreal world, it's both funny kind tale and some suspense mistery.
Oh, and another question. That "Solo Crisis", what is it? (and, playable without knowing moonspeak?)

The job system in FFV is fantastic, although I like the version in FFT even better. But the reason why it's on my list is this:

I bought it together with a friend at college and we were eating nothing but spaghetti with ketchup for like a month in order to save money for the (rather expensive) Japanese import. Neither of us spoke any Japanese and so it took us half a year to finish the game because we got stuck all the time. The Internet was quite different back then, and I spent countless hours on Usenet in order to find hints on how to progress in the game. Because of all the aimlessly wandering around, we were also totally overleveled pretty much all the time.

Solo Crisis is a Quintet game that plays like a mix of tactical rpg, Populous, and the world-building sections from Actraiser. I haven't touched it in years so I'm not sure how playable it is by today's standards, but I remember immensely enjoying it back then. There is very little text in the game, so not speaking Japanese shouldn't be a huge problem.

I haven't played Torin's Passage. For some reason I never really got into the Sierra adventure games.

Wow, you love Vay! Awesome. And prices for INNs are fixed there, right?)
Just listened to Vay's OST today in fact.

Working Designs loved to stack the odds against you. I assume you remember the Wind Elemental that took ~17,000 hours to beat?

Cool thing I remember about the game is that you could go beyond lvl 100. I got to 120 or so before I burned out. Many hours of grinding "Flee" Bags.

Thanks for Dragon Half! The series is a parody of RPG tropes and for sure it needed ripping.

Oooh I thought the question was for Ruiner only! ha ha :)

I'll choose only a few systems but many games. lol

ARCADE :
- After Burner II (I recommend "Final Take Off", while driving lol)
- Dangun Feveron (it sounds like 70s disco music! yay! XD Some of the songs make me think of the dance scene in "Airplane" XD )
- Gradius II (memorable melodies ;) - I recommend the "Space Odyssey" album)
- Outrun (I can listen to it infinitely and not get bored with it - it feels like being on holidays lol)
- Street Fighter II / Super Street Fighter II Turbo (I also REALLY recommend to listen to 3D0 - FM-Towns as well, it's a bit different but very nicely orchestrated!)
- Violent Storm (maybe the coolest 80s/90s rock'n'roll OST in the history of games, EVER lol - I think that "We are Free" should be an opening theme for a WWE star! ha ha)
and so many more...

MEGADRIVE :
hmmm everything? ha ha I had the megadrive in 1991 so I'm pretty much biased towards it and I love almost everything about it.
But let's try, it's going to be difficult...
(I had most of these games back then :) )
- Alex Kidd (yep I know, childish music but well I'm very nostalgic (;_;) The "Water" theme is relaxing.)
- Castle of Illusion (another childish OST which made me dream so much back then, and still does)
- Desert Strike (one of the manliest hard rock OSTs ever lol - some tracks sound even more "heavy" than Thunder Force series - just listen to "Mission Briefing 4" or "Title Theme")
- Ecco the Dolphin (one of the most relaxing OSTs ever he he - I feel like I'm just relaxing on a Polynesian island)
- Flashback (also very relaxing OST - just check "SoundTest 11")
- Landstalker (I prefer it even more than Final Fantasy OSTs - "Treasure Hunter Nigel" makes me want to start playing a RPG ha ha)
- Langrisser II (A rare unknown gem - I only discovered it recently (O_O) and it became an instant favorite - I love "One's Side")
- Quackshot (favorite Disney game ever - I'm a fan of Donald Duck ha ha - I love the "Hideout" track, which is in fact called "Island" in the European version, I think? Anyway it's the last level lol)
- Road Rash I and II (not that special and yet I love it - maybe I'm being nostalgic again he he - "Main Theme" of Road Rash 1 might have the MOST BADASS drums of ALL Megadrive games ever)
- Rolling Thunder II (very cool "spy" music he he - Love the "across the tube" title)
- Sonic 1,2,3 (it's impossible to pick titles, but well let's say "Chemical Plant Zone" in Sonic 2, and "Angel Island Zone: Act 1" in Sonic 3 - Orchestration in Sonic 3 was GREAT, especially the bass/drums)
- Streets of Rage II (I can't write anything about it, since I typed its name, I'm now playing it... I had to lol... But seriously I love "Under Logic")
- Super Monaco GP (I became a racing fan since I played this game - now I play Assetto Corsa every day he he)
- Thunder Force IV (listen to "Stranger (Stage 5 boss)" and then listen to EVERY metal musician in history who is crying cos they can't do something as heavy... ha ha my favorite is "Metal Squad" though, like most people he he... I remember in 1993 when I had it, I was recording it with my Megadrive connected to my stereo and then played it back with the volume boosted to the maximum.... My neighbors were very nice... lol)
- Toe Jam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (the only OST in the world which can actually change my way of walking... I listen to it and then I walk funky... Don't ask)
- World of Illusion (maybe even better than Quackshot - best Disney games ever are in the early 90s - my favorite is actually the relaxing water level "level 3-1")
And soooo many more...

NEOGEO :
- Fatal Fury 3 (favorite "pre-real bout" Fatal Fury game - Love the "Terry Bogard" theme! Love Terry Bogard anyway! lol)
- Neo Turf Masters (maybe favorite golf game ever, very arcadish though - music is very relaxing :) )
- Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 (The SATURN version is even better though! God the "Billy Kane" song is STRONG!)
- The King of Fighters 96 (I STRONGLY recommend you get ALL the "Arrange Soundtrax" albums, they sound better! "Ikari Team" is great!!)

PC :
- Day of the Tentacle (I HAVE A REQUEST!!! But not for Ruiner, cos I know he doesn't do pc games. I'm looking for something impossible, the "Adlib version" of this game! I have the "midi" version, the "MT-32" version, but I'm looking for the Adlib one, which sounds the best to my ears... MT32 has good orchestration, but I prefer the more "gamey" sound of Adlib, it almost sounded like a Megadrive game. So anyway, if anybody can help, that would be appreciated! he he :) I have already recorded myself one of few tracks from the emulator Scummvm, but it's not the same, and also VERY time-consuming...)
- Full Throttle (The Gone Jackals had some quite nice rock music, and the rest of the OST is actually kinda quiet and relaxing)
- Gabriel Knight 3 (I don't listen much to single piano OSTs, but this one is GREAT and very relaxing - yes I know I often say this.. Well I love relaxing stuff lol)
- Giants Citizen Kabuto (strangely I'm not into this style and yet I love it... Can't explain... it's magical and really makes me feel I'm exploring another planet.. I prefer this to any Star Wars OST!)
- GTA Vice City (I'm a fan of the 80s so... Of course, despite the outdated graphics, this one will always be my favorite GTA...The radios "EMOTION", "FLASH" and "VROCK" were my favorites... didn't play GTA V yet)
- Heroes of Might and Magic II, III, IV (favorite Celtic-inspired fantasy music whatever you call it...lol I never found something as melodious and sophisticated)
- Interstate 76 (THE game which made me discover instrumental funk, and I'll never thank it enough, cos it made me find similar music, like the 70s albums of Herbie Hancock... Can't love enough this music... You HAVE to listen to it in your car, and don't forget the sunglasses!)
- Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 (ok I NEVER listen to it as it is as it's WAY too creepy for me ha ha, but I LOVE it in-game, it's one of the most "immersive" OSTs to me, maybe cos it's dynamic)
- Outlaws (sounds like Ennio Morricone in old 60s western movies... Exact same orchestration... Incredible)
- Terraria (dunno why I like this one... Maybe I played the game so much that I eventually fell in love with the OST as well? ha ha)
- Unreal Tournament 1 (so much goodness here... The great old times of "mod" music (it, xm, etc)... no favorite tracks there, they're all equally great)

SATURN :
(I had these games back in the 90s, so again, I'm very SEGA-nostalgic he he)
- Daytona USA (Daytoooooonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa let's go away!)
- Exhumed (I'm not into Arabian-themed music, and yet... Love this one, I wish there were more... Actually I would LOVE to see a sequel to this game one time... I want more "pyramid-crawling FPS" games lol)
- Fighters Megamix (Mix of Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers, so you gets two of the best OSTs on Saturn in one game!!!)
- Guardian Heroes (great upbeat action music, great for working out too! ha ha it's almost as good as Violent Storm on Arcade, believe me!!!)
- Mr Bones (I don't listen to blues, but when I do, I listen to Mr.Bones... :) Wait, is it blues though? It's a bit diverse...)
- Pandemonium (one of my favorite OSTs ever for some reason... I love the "medieval" sound to it... There was a pandemonium 2, but anyway I-WANT-PANDEMONIUM-3! (;_;))
- SEGA Ages Volume 1 (one must be wondering why I would list this game, since it's just a mix of Outrun/After Burner II/Space Harrier on Arcade, but well, the sound is just GREAT, and actually it sounds better
than some of the Arcade rips I found online, so very often I prefer to listen to this Arcade version. Also it's not compressed or anything, so it sounds very "original". :) )
- Sega Rally (almost as good as Daytona USA he he - love the "Conditioned Reflex" track, very hard rock)
- Sonic R (a bit surprisingly, I discovered this one only recently, and I LOVE how it sounds like mid-90s Dance music, like Cappella or Culture Beat or something)
- Virtua Fighter Remix (I love it more than Virtua Fighter 2, but again I guess it's only the nostalgic factor, it was my first game on Saturn)

SUPER FAMICOM :
(Despite being one of my favorite consoles, I like the music way WAY less than the Megadrive. Btw I took the habit of calling it Super Famicom cos that's how we used to call it in France during its first years here.(1991-1992) It became Super Nintendo only later. It's Super Nes in USA, right?)
- Chrono Trigger
- Donkey Kong Country 1,2,3
- Earthbound (Favorite Japanese RPG. EVER. I just love the friendly atmosphere, everything looks harmless and I feel comfortable ha ha)
- Legend of Zelda - A link to the Past (one of the first Super Famicom game I played in the 90s... great old times...)
- Super Adventure Island 1-2 (I feel like I'm being on holidays on an island when I play this OST! :) )
- Super Castlevania IV (love so much the atmosphere in this game...)
- Super Mario All-Stars (Mario 1-2-3-4 etc - Favorite mario game ever, by FAR, since it contains all of the original games, enhanced - doesn't get any better than this)
- Street Fighter II (the Super Famicom version had its own specific sound and was great)

I don't really listen to other consoles/systems...
I do have some nice FM-Towns OSTs, but that's about it.
I mainly listen to line-out rips of Megadrive games, Arcade music and PC OSTs.

Edit : I just realized I wrote a huge post focusing on music only, whereas you asked about our favorite games, not favorite OSTs... lol
I need to go drink coffee...
Oh well... on the other hand, it wouldn't be possible to answer such a question though... It's already difficult with music... But best games? Sheesh lol...
If I count the games I have on Mame only, there are already 30,000 or something... How can I choose? ha ha

Here goes mine:

Wow, Recca. So fast action.

Nekketsu Oyako music is lovely, consisting of very melodic and soft rock melodies. I love other Hyakutaro Tsukumo's works too - Hyper Reverthion, Blast Wind, Thunder Force V, Steeldom.

Just listened to Vay's OST today in fact.
Working Designs loved to stack the odds against you. I assume you remember the Wind Elemental that took ~17,000 hours to beat?

Ouch. Well, i played iOS port (when it was in english, dunno how it is now after update) which maybe has a bit toned down difficulty. I liked Vay for jokes, music and overall atmosphere.

Oooh I thought the question was for Ruiner only! ha ha :)

I'll choose only a few systems but many games. lol

Which Ecco? Spenser Nilsen's CD version blow me away, but nowodays i meet people who prefer chiptune originals, and considering them...i like tunes from sequel better.

Oh, Thunder Force IV. My picks would me "Attack Sharply" (so brutal) and "Space Walk" (oh my, sounds absolutely wonderful and has very complex rhythm). Do you like MUSHA's music too? I do.

"Conditioned Reflex" - i prefer techno remix from Touring Car :)

I do have some nice FM-Towns OSTs, but that's about it.

I'd recommend you to check wonderful PC Engine CD soundtracks. My suggestions would be following:

ok, I'll try to do it super short.
This time I'll answer your question correctly. he he

Games that "defined" the consoles for me...

Megadrive : Sonic - seems obvious, but well the FM music, smooth fast animation and platform genre, which was imho better on Megadrive than on Super Famicom, defined that console.
My favorite games on Megadrive are platformers, actually. Quackshot, Kid Chameleon, World of Illusion, etc.
Fun, fast, arcadish games is what defined the Megadrive to me. :)

Super Famicom : Legend of Zelda - a Link to the Past - not my favorite though, as I prefer turn-based RPGs like "earthbound"...
But whether it's action RPG or turn-based RPGs, to me, the Super Famicom IS all about RPGs.
Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana...
Pretty colors, very long gameplay hours, epic stories, memorable OSTs, that's what the Super Famicom was about. :)

Neogeo : Real Bout Fatal Fury series - again, seems obvious, but the neogeo was all about fighting games. I might as well choose one of the most colorful, with one of the best OST on the machine.
Samurai Shodown series was great too, but to me, the "spirit" of the console was more "futuristic" or "fun", as opposed to the "traditional" spirit of Samurai Shodown.
Another kind of game that defines VERY well the Neogeo was Metal Slug. Extreme shooters, metal OST, brutal fighting gameplay... That's what the neogeo was about. :)

Sega Saturn : Daytona USA- it might have been cos it was my first game on this console, but well advertisement was huge too... I always associate Saturn with Daytona USA. lol
Even if Sega Rally was so much better (the handling of the cars...)
It's harder to find a game that "defines" the console though, cos starting with 3D machines, imho, games became more diverse (I don't mean better).
I'm not sure there's ONE style that defined the Saturn but...
Come to think of it, MANY Arcade games were ported to the Saturn, so I'd say that's it.
Arcade titles like Virtua Fighter, Virtual on, Virtua Cop, are the ones that defined the console to me. (not my favorites lol)

Arcade : almost impossible to answer as it's too diverse, and spreads over several decades...
But I would have said "Outrun" in the 80s, and maybe Street Fighter II or a shmup in the 90s, like "Dodonpachi".
Whenever I think of arcade, I think of action games, the easiest gameplay possible, inserting coins, and usually it goes fast (no loading screens, limited storyline).

I didn't play other consoles (Nintendo DS, GameBoy Advance, PSP) well enough to say what games could define it...
As for Computers... It's way way too diverse, I guess...
For computers, I guess we would need to find a game in each different genre, and in different eras too. lol :)

---------- Post added at 04:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:38 AM ----------

Which Ecco? Spenser Nilsen's CD version blow me away
oh about Ecco, I downloaded the "16 bit audiophile" version of the first Ecco on Megadrive and I love it!

Ecco the Dolphin Soundtrack (http://16bap.theclassicgamer.net/ecco-the-dolphin/)

Oh and yes, I have Spencer Nielsen's "Ecco : Songs of time" as well, and it's INCREDIBLE. :)

I'd recommend you to check wonderful PC Engine CD soundtracks.
Oh I do have a folder filled with PC Engine CD soundtracks. he he
I'll make sure to listen to your recommendations.
I know I love "Valis 1 - The Fantasm Soldier" main theme. :)
Oh yeah I know about Shadow of the Beast too!
I think "Eerie forests" is one of the most beautiful themes ever! :)
And I know Double Dragon 2, the PC Engine CD version is the best!

I'll need to listen to the techno version of "Conditioned Reflex", I didn't know it existed! (0_0)

You can name top of ur biggest playtime
Aha!
That might be a tiny bit different! lol
Ok one last list then!
I don't have a frontend that counts the playtime, but I can say safely...

BIGGEST PLAYTIME :

Megadrive : Kid Chameleon (I play it even today... lol Favorite platformer in history) also Landstalker and Road Rash series...
Super Famicom : Earthbound, but I'm not sure... I did replay it many times... Chrono Trigger as well...
NeoGeo : Real Bout Fatal Fury 2
Arcade : Dodonpachi (I beat you all at this game mwa ha ha) and also, MOST of crazy shmups, like Batrider, Esp.ra.de, etc.
Saturn : I almost never play this console anymore, but when I do, it's usually Pandemonium. I guess I have had a long playtime with Shining the Holy Ark as well.
PC : as usual, it seems impossible to quantify, and also, despite being a nerdy nostalgic emulator gamer, I think I spent the longuest playtime with PC games, by FAAAAR.
Since last year, I spent a huge amount of time with Assetto Corsa.. Spent also a huge amount of time on the entire Fallout series... Can't wait for Fallout 4... :)
Heroes of Might and Magic series... Jagged Alliance 2... MAYBE Skyrim, but I totally stopped playing it... I keep going back to the other games I mentioned though. :)

On a side note, I started playing "Two Worlds II" since a week... I don't know if it's because I try every side quest, but this RPG seems to be one of the biggest RPGs I've ever played.
I'm very far from the mid-game too... Playtime with this will become huge, I can tell... It's an EXTREMELY flawed game though. I'm pretty apologizing when it comes to RPGs and I'm ok with it, but I sure can't recommend it.
Only hardcore RPG fans can enjoy it. lol

I'll try doing a list myself. I never had a massive amount of games for anything other than PS1/PS2 back when I was a kid, so I don't have many choices. I'm not the best at explanations, either :P

PS1
Spyro Year Of The Dragon - Sorry Crash. You were good, but Spyro was better. One of my all time favourite platformers, it improved on the Spyro formula so much it was near perfect. If only the next game in the series wasn't rushed for Christmas, maybe he would still be around... sigh.
Gran Turismo 2 - This was the game that turned me into a Racing game fan. As far as I'm concerned it's still the best in the series due to it's amazing original courses that were not used again in the later games, to it's surprisingly large choice of everyday European cars, which meant that you could actually drive the cars you or your parents owned, something which the newer games lost focus on. In fact, half the cars being added in GT6 these days don't even exist -.-
Tekken 2 - My first fighting game. For me this is the best PS1 Tekken, not Tekken 3 and it's overrated OST.

PS2
Ratchet & Clank - My most played game of all time. This for me is classic Sony at it's finest.
Sly 2: Band Of Thieves - Another fantastic Platformer which I sunk way to many hours into back in the day.
Timesplitters 2 - Still my all time favourite FPS. Fast, fun and containing some of that old Rare humour, as well as somewhat of a Goldeneye 64 successor. Oh, and dat Graeme Norgate soundtrack <3

PSP
Secret Agent Clank - Quite a few Ratchet fans weren't keen on this game, but I loved it for being quirky and different, and it was a better and longer game than the Traditional Ratchet & Clank released on the PSP a few years earlier. It was also a hell of a lot better attempt at straying from the norm than a few other recent attempts, too...
Burnout Legends - First game I owned for the PSP, and the first Burnout game I beat 100%. A nice tribute to the first three games in the series.
Medievil Resurrection - Despite being quite a bit worse than the original, I still enjoyed my time with this game.

Megadrive
Sonic 2 - Seriously, did anyone actually own a Megadrive without having at least one Sonic game?
Streets Of Rage - This came on one of those three in one cartridges, and was by far the most played of the three. Still one of my all time favourite beat em ups, only surpassed by it's even better sequel (which I didn't count as I first played 2 only about a year ago).
Boogerman - Despite it being only a mediocre platformer, I had great fun with this one as a kid, and still LOVE the soundtrack today. Way better than the SNES version for sure.

Gameboy/GBC
Tetris - No explanation needed.
Pokmon Pinball - I remember my dad finding this along with Space Invaders at a Scrapyard in the back of a car. The sticker was faded and it was slightly melted on one side for some reason but it still played perfectly. It was actually my only Pokmon game I owned until Diamond in 2007.
Spider Man (GBC) - Never got too far in this as a kid, but I still played and enjoyed it a lot back then.

GBA
Spyro 2: Season Of Flame - Still my favourite GBA game, and a pretty solid Spyro game in general. A far better game than Enter The Dragonfly ever was.
Rayman Advance - Never knew it was a port of a PS1 game back then, but I loved playing through this. Never finished it though, despite it being quite a lot easier than the notoriously hard original game.
TG Rally - Pretty impressive 3D for the GBA, and just a decent racer overall. Fully completed it over a week or so years and years ago.

Hello Ruiner,

I've been thinking of doing a list like the others, but I haven't quite settled on any choices just yet. I am liking the others' lists though, Lily Starfox's in particular.

I do have one request I wanted to make though: Firepower 2000 aka SWIV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA6zPbMTN_o).

Take care!

I had to searching through my music when you said I didn't have this in the collection. It's one of my favorite SNES soundtracks! Anyways, it seems I had made the album, but somehow never uploaded it! So you can go grab Firepower 2000 in the SNES section now! :)

I think I've heard almost everything the Follins have done at this point. :) It's amazing what they could accomplish on those primitive chips!

OK, here's some new stuff (besides that SNES soundrack!)

Xak III - The Eternal Recurrence is up in the PCE-CD section.

Also, both of Capcom's sweet RPG/ Arcade brawlers, Dungeons & Dragons - Shadow Over Mystara and Dungeons & Dragons - Tower of Doom are in the arcade section! I used to own this collection on the Saturn but had to sell it to pay bills. :( Anyways, the music is great and uses Q Sound, so headphones give you a whole new experience.

Have fun!

Speaking of Tim Follin, Ecco the Dolphin Defender of the Future is one of my favorite Video Game soundtracks ever.
I have a lot of favorites: Pathways from Nowhere, Up and Down - The Great Geyser, Anguish of Dearth, Caverns of Hope, and Hanging Waters.
Of course there is more but those are my definite favorites. Really almost all of it is good in my opinion. :)

Now, my own attempt. Also, a note - even if i played a port, i count an original game's platform as place.

Genesis:

Tiny Toons Adventure: Buster's Hidden Treasure - well, this (with Disney's Aladdin and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3) was one of my first videogames ever... Most thing that impressed me were levels, of different themes and with multiple routes. What a lovely platformer.

Besides those 3 titles i also had Jurrasic World and Adventure of Batman & Robin, but both were too hardcore for me as a kid. Nowodays i has HUGE backlog to play and, sure, many Genesis titles are on the list. I nearly finished Shining Force several years ago (liked it very much but hated that without grinding half of party stays much lower in levels and became useless) and i'm gonna play Alien Soldier, ECCO, Phantasy Star IV and others.

SNES:

Chrono Trigger - this is the first game that made me play it until 6 a.m. or something! Wondeful, EPIC adventure that catches you completely. And Giga Gaia took ~30 attempts from me.

Demon's Crest - wow, just wow. The first thing that dropped my jaws was main menu's intro. And , then - that haunting music, that atmosphere, that style. What a game.

PlayStation:

Tekken 3 - when i had UMK 3, my neighbor had this. So we visited each other. Oh, childhood. Though nowodays i prefer Virtua Fighter and Dead or Alive over Tekken series in general (and i'm casual in all three franchises haha), even without nostalgia Tekken 3 is one of symbols of PSone for me. Memorable fighters cast, nice flow of gameplay, and don't even mention soundtrack (King's, Nina's themes = timeless).

Silent Hill - while it was Silent Hill 3 who got me into series, i can't leave SH1 out of picture. Industrial noise music, really dark atmosphere, very good plot (Lisa, please be happy...) - overall it's one of the strongest pillars in videogame culture.

Parasite Eve - FMVs blew my mind! And it got feel of disaster movie with unavoidable apocalypse well! Also, heartful music and something that i can't describe...but i was hugely disappointed with sequel cause it was "too much fancy, too much blockbuster" so now i'm open minded for psp's 3rd Birthday, ha.

Dreamcast:

D2 - last "big" game from Kenji Eno. Experimental and a bit trashy, you could say. I don't know which exactly movie director i can compare to his approach, maybe... John Carpenter? And i don't only mean "The Thing" here.

Maken X - maybe my most fav Megami Tensei - related titled (though i had 70 hours of Persona 2: Innocent Sin and while it was painful as jRPG i really enjoyed it's plot and themes, but that's another story). What we have here? First person slasher which plays very arcade-like + Kazuma Kaneko's designs as enemies and characters + interesting plot with multiple paths + cool electronic music (awful voice overs though). Definetely unique thing. I dislike PS2 port which has some bonuses but looks worse and they 3rd person view killed it's flow.

IBM PC:

Nearly impossible to choose something... still..

Anachronox - inspired by Chrono Trigger, epic sci-fi rpg. Or, maybe, more an adventure. Absolutely love it. And waited 6 years since i saw it's trailer and played demo until i finally could play it. Dunno how describe better... Just, i'd say, scere Mass Effect and go play Anox. It has better jokes and world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isdE2R-j0CI

Populous: the Beggining - it's fun! While first two games were more a god sim, this one... Sure, you build town, units, etc (like in RTS). But then - volcanos, tornados, fireballs, you army of warriors, terra morphing everything goes crazy!

Ok, i'll end here. Can't speak for PS2, PSP, Saturn, arcade games etc now currently cause there are so many titles to play. From nearly all platforms.

Wow Knivesman you grinded in Shining Force? lol
I really really loved that game, but grinding in a strategy RPG is quite boring, I admit.
I ended up giving up on the weakest characters and kept improving the strong ones. (my favorite was Zylo, remember him? he he)

Hi guys!

Yeah, closing requests is something I was considering, and looking at what's what's been requested since I was last here, it's gonna throw me way off.

OK....

NO MORE REQUESTS FOR NOW! I'll put it in the OP too. Anything that's been requested up to this post will be in my queue, but that's it. Once this major summer project for work that I have going on is over, I'll have more time for soundtracks, and that should be within the next week or so.

Anyways, here's what I have today:

Golden Axe - The Revenge of Death Adder (Arcade) - One of my favorite GA soundtracks.

Wild West C.O.W.-boys of Moo Mesa (Arcade) - This one is from Michiru Yamane. :)

I'll put ChuChu Rocket up now and fix Alex Kidd. :)

Let me take a crack at this gaming memories thing!

Genesis
Mickeymania- There’s actually a cool story behind this one! I rented it when I was little and read the title card for the first level, Steamboat Willie, and discovered that I have Mickey Mouse’s b-day, November 18th!

Columns- I hated this game as a kid but grew to love it later. It was the only thing I could play on my Genesis when I broke my elbow. I couldn’t turn my hand in the splint without sending myself to the moon. I eventually made it to level 73 on the console version. I also learned how to spread one hand across the controller and get through the first level of Sonic 1. My elbow is fine now; I just have a screw in it so I’m screwy, screwed up, etc!

PSX
Frogger- I got this for Christmas one year and watched mom and dad play the level with the rotating lily pads. Mom was getting motion sick but still having a good time.
Crash Bandicoot 3- Me, my dad, and my uncle got to the Sphynxinator level and saw one of those spear traps that pops out of the ground twice and then goes back into the ground. My uncle said “Now that’s the sphynxinator!”

Wii
Rabbids go Home- My brother got this for Christmas and I watched him play it and just about died laughing! The funniest game I ever played!

May I jump on in to this conversation and say that I could as well help out with request during this request/forum drought! I can do NES, Genesis, SMS, TG16, arcade, PC Engine CD, Sega CD (Some), PS1 (Some), Saturn (Some), PS2 (Some), PS3 (Some), and even Some PC stuff if you really wanted to! So if any of you want your request fulfilled while this dry spell is occurring then have at it! As for ED in his dilemma in terms of IRL I say that financial well being always is the number one priority though I am a bit curious what this super secret project is but as we all know time will tell when it happens! So with out further or do let the request roll & don't worry ED me, Captain, NX, and anyone else how is willing to pitch in will be here all week, Next Thursday, or even fora couple of weeks and who knows! Alright farewell for about a half a day until I get my Lazy Arse *Conker Reference* out of bed! :3

Mickeymania- There’s actually a cool story behind this one! I rented it when I was little and read the title card for the first level, Steamboat Willie, and discovered that I have Mickey Mouse’s b-day, November 18th!

Interestingly enough I actually played through the game on my post High Definition Model 1 genesis a few days ago, and I gotta say that the game really cool as a Gamer & Disney Fanatic! The cool thing is that Travelers Tales the guys who make those rather mediocre Lego 3D beat'em ups & Hit rock bottom during the 32 bit days with Sonic R & Rascal they they developed this Game! Now let's go back to 1993 when they released a Puzzle Platformer game that was the first of it's kind to utilize a physics engine as well as using some digitized prerendered Graphic it was a revolutionary game for it's with the same same company behind Lemmings! With this knowledge about this game you would think that this would be a hit, but sadly it was a financial dud and that's ashamed considering that beside how dopey Pugssy's design is it's quiet decent & Matt Furniss the god of all Genesis music did the music! So after this many of the people who made Pugssy came back to work on Mickey Mania and a result that are some detail that you can tell that they work on it and I'll provide example at the bottom!
Examples

Whraft - When Mickey get's on the crates that rotate via the Crane the Crane is Prerendered as well as the boxes that fall near that building that you come across after defeating Peg-Legged Pete or Bootlegged Pete!

Mad Doctor 1 - When you come across those Skeleton guys that their bones scatter when you hit them or they undo their skull the bones have some sort Physics very simularly to Pugssy with it's physics!

Mad Doctor 2 - When you get on the Strapped Table you can tell that the wooden poles stuck in the middle of the place has an affect makes it look like it's a 3d model, as well as the Tower Segment where the tower itself and the barrels are both prendered!

Moose Chase - When Mickey is running from a moose the Crash Bandicoot style floor is the result as the Pugssy developer squeezing as much out of the Genesis as much as they possible could!

The Lonesome -When you start the level the house's texture seem to look like polygons like things, and it's another example of the console being pushed! So that all I got for now!
Even Matt Furniss comes back to compose the soundtrack & it's shows! Another thing to add is that this game uses the same Technics as Aladdin does as a result it's pretty cool to see all the past mickey be reanimated as well as mickey looks better then ever! Anyways after this the same guys who made this would go on to make Toy Story that which pushes even more boundaries and expands heavily on the foundations that Pugssy & Mania provided! Unfortunately Furniss did not come back to do the music, but the music still kicks a lot of ass so it doesn't really matter anyways! Sorry if this was lengthy but I wanted to share all of this knowledge with of you guys and if you haven't already make to Pugssy and Mickey Mania some love as well as Toy Story on the Genesis only because Toy Story & Mania both suck on snes as well as Pugssy not being released on snes!

I am a bit curious what this super secret project is but as we all know time will tell when it happens!

It's not a "Super secret project." I do IT for a school system and over the summer, I have to drive to a school that's 90 minutes away from my house and re-image over 300 laptops for the kids and teachers. It's very time-consuming! Usually, I can run HOOT or M1 in the background at work while I work at my regular office to get soundtracks done, but it's not possible with the job I'm doing right now. That's basically why I'm unable to do a lot of those soundtracks. Plus, I get home later from work and I like to spend time with my family before I pass out for the evening. But like I said... It won't be forever! I'll be back to my usual schedule pretty soon.!

Now, as far as parrothead1983's HAL requests go, Eggerland and Eggerland-Souzou heno Tabidachi were alredy in the OP, so no need to do those. The other ones I can't do: Eggerland Mystery and Eggerland - Meikyū Shinwa (MSX) don't have sound files available, and Rollerball (MSX) doesn't have any music at all, as far as I can tell. Reimage 300 laptops?! Ouch! Well have fun! Take your time on my request. I'm in no major rush to get it. Just out of curiosity, do you play any of the Tales of series of games? I've played a lot of them with my BF and I love the ones I've played for one reason or another. My favorites have to be Symphonia and Hearts R, though. Sakuraba is the main composer for the series is why I ask. He's done Star Ocean, Golden Sun, Valkyrie Profile, and Baten Kaitos and probably others that I can't think of right now, too.

I used to be really big into RPG's back in the SNES and PSX days, but I just don't have the time to play them anymore. It kind of stinks. :( Although Sakuraba is one of my faves! There will actually be a (very early) track from him on the next podcast, which we recorded on Sunday!

OK, so the new album today is Hantaro - Ham-Ham Heartbreak for the GBA. It's a very kid friendly game, so the music is definitely inspired by Japanese children's shows. Enjoy!

My favorite game composers have to be Uematsu (Final Fantasy), Sakuraba (Tales of, Star Ocean, etc.) and Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts). Movie composers are Hans Zimmer (Lion King, PotC 2,3,4, etc.), Danny Elfman (TNBC, just about anything Tim Burton) and Javier Navarrete (Pan's Labyrinth). Soundtracks you should hear at least once are Okami (PS2 and Wii), Okamiden (DS) and Lion King and Pan's Labyrinth are a tie. "Oogway Ascends" from Kung Fu Panda is really awesome too!

When I hear a piece of movie or game music, it calls to mind the scene in which it was played. For example, in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep when I hear Black Powder the big fight between Aqua, Terra, and Ventus and Xehanort and Vanitas comes to mind and it makes me feel confident. When I hear Oogway Ascends the scene just before it where Oogway is teaching Shifu about control and the scene where it plays comes to mind. I'm really getting into Chopin's music because I'm currently playing through Eternal Sonata on PS3. I do like others like Taichovsky's Swan Lake, Bizet's Carmen, and Bach's Toccata and Fugue. My second fave is Beethoven. I like Moonlight Sonata 1st and 3rd movements and Fur Elise.

It's surprising though, Ruiner...
You love sophisticated pieces of music like Ecco : Defender of the future...
So I don't see how you don't appreciate, for example, Heroes of Might and Magic series.
When you think about it, it's not that different...
Heroes IV especially has some relaxing tracks. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hamnGzd9cYo

Well, not trying to change your mind though, but I don't believe you really dislike it. he he
You just have to find one specific soundtrack that you truly love and it'll open your mind to a whole new world. :)
On the other hand, I never listen to composers like Mozart, or Back... I don't feel much from them... (I do love Chopin though)
I listen to "orchestral music" only when it's from a game. ha ha

There are many kinds of "orchestral" music...
Maybe you just have to find the specific genre you like...
There's war music like "Total Annihilation", for example... lol
Or dreamy music like "Giants Citizen Kabuto"...
How about western movies? They ARE "orchestral", after all, right? he he
Don't you like "The good, the bad, and the ugly"?
("Outlaws" exactly sounds like Ennio Morricone's music)

Anyway, just trying to help you find something you might like! :)

(on a side note, I think that recent games and movies, when they try to go orchestral, sound UNSIGNIFICANT.
Not wanting to start a flame war here so I won't name any of them, but I totally agree that they all sound the SAME.
Maybe you've noticed the only orchestral OSTs I mentioned are from OLD games... Maybe that's what you should check out. he he
Back then, they knew how to compose memorable melodies.
In recent games/movies, usually you just hear some very long notes, dark eerie mood and not even a single melody you can remember.)

I don't want to sound like I'm casually dismissing any of what you've said, but I've really heard all types. I just don't like the sound of violin sections, reed instruments, or french horns, and I NEED a heavy beat. Grindy, industrial, clanking drums are what really gets me going. Honestly, the only reason I like the Ecco soundtrack is because it's Tim Follin, and I really only like the introductory track.

And I also don't want to sound like I don't appreciate good orchestral music. As a background piece in a movie or game, if it's effective in setting the mood or tone of the scene, I'm perfectly fine with it. I have never gotten "audio goosebumps" from listening to it on it's own, though. I've tried many orchestral soundtracks from movies, games, and commercial releases.

I know I'm missing out on a huge world of what's considered excellent music, and believe me, I've tried to enjoy it, but my ears just aren't wired to do so. It's futile (in my opinion) to force myself to listen to music that gives me no joy in the hopes that one day I may like it, when there are hours upon hours of music that's more my style which I haven't discovered yet.

It's never stopped me from posting orchestral music when it's requested, and if someone else would like to post a writeup after listening to whatever I upload for other people to read, that's totally cool! :)

That's one of the reasons I like doing this thread so much... it's great seeing people talk about music I've helped provide that they wouldn't normally know about!

In other good news, I'm back from my big summer project, so I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things and catch up on that queue! :)

Music to get you going, you said? Like this beautiful piece played by a string quartet (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOr8yrX-bBE) or how about a Jeroen Tel tune played by a brass section (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOxpz7uc1aU)?

Yeah, they're OK. I view stuff like that as novelty... "Oh, so that's how it would sound with horns. Cool." Move on, never listen to it again. LOL

Guys, please. If you really didn't like mint toothpaste, do you think you would start to like it if someone kept shoving a toothbrush in your mouth? I understand that people out there can get incredulous about it, like "How can you NOT like orchestral? I can't imagine not liking orchestral!" Well, I can't imagine how anyone would dislike dubstep or Nine Inch Nails (I'm huge fans of both) yet I'm sure there are some people even in this thread who couldn't listen to more than 3 minutes of either before having to turn it off. And I could site example after example of my favorites but it probably wouldn't change your mind.

Like I said, I won't stop uploading your requests, and I'll never talk down to anyone for their taste in music, and you can certainly feel free to talk about your favorite orchestral scores in this thread. And hey, maybe someday, something from a symphony or quartet will catch my ear and I'll let you guys know. :)

While I admit that Follin's stuff is pretty damn awesome I still would say that I prefer Furniss & Kaufman a bit more then follin! Now before all of you on this thread turn on me like a pack of savage animals that haven't eaten in a week let me explain my reasons as to why!

Well firstly I feel that Kaufman & Furniss really gravitates more towards my personal tastes with the whole FM Funk like thing going while with Follin he also has quiet a bit of funk & while not kicking as much ass as Furniss & Kaufman still kicks a lot of ass with just a 20A3 mind you!

One other thing that really gravitates me to Furniss & Kaufman more is how they relate more to me then Follin! Now what I mean when I say that "they relate more to me" is how Kaufman & Furniss both are gamers while Follin is not, and while that might change all that much in the quality of Follin's overall work I feel that little connection can add an extra dimension to what was there initially!

Now mind you all of that was just my option & you may think that either Kaufman or/and Furniss's stuff sound like someone squeezing out a massive turd that's totally a okay in my book! But if any of you lovely people want to either tell me someone who's very similar to how I feel about Kaufman & Furniss comparatively to Follin, or just want to share your experiences with either Kaufman or/and Furniss then please reply this comment! Though if you want to ignore it or telling me how wrong I am for slightly preferring someone/people then that's fine too! Anyways have a great one you guys! ;)

(I listen to it while driving in Assetto Corsa. And then I hit a wall.)

NIGHT (Sweden)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI3gequ69Hs
(isn't it the best worst music video ever? ha ha)

PRIMAL FEAR (Germany)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vf1N8aE6mwg
(very similar to Iron Savior)

IRON MAIDEN (UK)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ8FyShfnFc
(I grew up listening to them... They're my favorite metal/hard rock band ever)

And finally, not really metal nor European, but...

AIRBOURNE (Australia)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkMZ6fV3T_0
(it sounds so much like AC/DC huh?)

There are many rock bands from the 70s I love, like Deep Purple, but they don't sound too much metal, right?

...
Just for fun, how about some Swat Kats real metal cover?

Anyways have a great one you guys! ;)

I'd never turn on you like a savage animal! LOL! Matt Furniss and Jake Kaufman are both incredibly talented in their own right. Not everyone has the same favorite composers, and that's why the FFShrine is so big and awesome. :)

BTW, I googled some of the guys you mentioned and I don't even find them... lol
The Follins? Kaufman & Furniss? Please show me some videos! :)

That's because they're video game composers! Tim and Geoff Follin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Follin) are brothers who have written the soundtracks for games like Silver Surfer on the NES, Spider-Man & X-Men in Arcade's Revenge on the SNES, and a whole bunch of Amiga, C64, and ZX Spectrum games. Their music is amazingly advanced for the tech they worked on, and they have a very 70's prog-rock sound. So if you like Deep Purple, you'll really enjoy their stuff. All of it is available in the OP!

Matt Furniss (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Furniss) worked on literally hundreds of games like ResQ and Puggsy for the Mega Drive, and Woody Woodpecker on the PSX. A lot of his stuff is also available here!

Jake Kaufman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Kaufman) is a relative newcomer to the composing scene compared to the Follins and Furniss, but he follows in the same footsteps. He gained a lot of fans for his amazing SHovel Knight soundtrack, but he'd been making amazing music before that on games like Double Dragon Neon and the Shantae series.

All of their names link to their respective Wikipedia page, so you can find out more about them and the games they've worked on! Between the three of them, there are HOURS of amazing music to listen to, a lot of which will suit your tastes in power metal! :)

lol my bad, I'm very bad when it comes to remembering names of video game music composers. I feel bad for them, but they aren't as popular as movie composers...
I wish they got more respect...

Gee that Mark Furniss guy made so many OSTs I loved on the Megadrive! :)
I didn't know he made the music for F15 Strike Eagle II =>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NcuSf7FXww
(it almost sounds like a softer Thunder Force OST he he)

Wow that guy wasn't even 20 when he started composing for games.... So lucky...
I've been composing so much music for years, but never worked for any game...
I see he's a software engineer now... I guess it pays more money, but gee I wish he kept making more music...

I wish I could go back in time and have his career. ha ha

I don't think I've specifically seen this exercise done on the thread yet so here goes ... If you could only select a maximum of 5 game soundtracks (full OSTs) to have in your collection, which would they be? Include some of your favorite tracks if you'd like. :)

Mine are (not in any particular order):
Ys Seven by Falcom Sound Team JDK
Examples: Vacant Interference (https://youtu.be/bsNzIsBeyjE), Extensive Forest Green (https://youtu.be/F6jgqkFE3jM), Isolated Island Consigned to Oblivion (https://youtu.be/YE2lwJzbUTA)

Wild Arms by Michiko Naruke
Examples: Town (https://youtu.be/5rPqY3DB5ng), Adlehyde Castle (https://youtu.be/ydSsWl0Lm4c), Knights' Quarters (https://youtu.be/vZZLoiixSqQ)

Wild Arms V by Noriyasu Agematsu, Masato Kouda
Examples: Terrible Monster Attacking Crew! (https://youtu.be/WeZt16j-UDQ), The Resurrected Left Arm that Brings Death (https://youtu.be/a8AcGm8pm0E), April Showers (https://youtu.be/nnBSM-nd_UI), The Outpost is Our Trump Card (https://youtu.be/2bpykYq_2Hs)

Final Fantasy IV by Nobuo Uematsu
Examples: The Dreadful Fight (https://youtu.be/tx5Erp6RLQw), Within the Giant (https://youtu.be/n3zDZ7MgU1E), Prologue (https://youtu.be/JKhfZ94NUHA)

Mega Man 3 by Yasuaki & Harumi Fujita
Examples: Title Theme (https://youtu.be/U2kTeh7FNl0), Spark Man (https://youtu.be/6J5cN87c2yM), Snake Man (https://youtu.be/ZqGLXispP08)

I may edit this post later to elaborate on why I love these OSTs so much. Time eludes me right now.

Looking forward to seeing/hearing some other lists. :)

5 OSTs only? Hahaha, not gonna happen! 5 GIGABYTES of OSTs, maybe! And then I'd still struggle. ;)

Anyways, here's what's new:

Arcade

Aliens vs Predator - One of my favorite beat 'em ups! Not a fan of the music.

Gun Frontier - Kind of a unique folky/ cinematic feel to this soundtrack.

NES

Ninja Crusaders - There's some cool action music in this one. It's a bit on the simple side.

Tsuppari Oozumou - 4 minutes of music over 12 tracks. VERY repetitive.

MSX

Herzog - Some decent tunes for the 3 channel PSG chip. Mostly of the upbeat variety.

I couldn't rip Grid Seeker (Arcade) because M1 doesn't emulate the Ensoniq chips correctly, and the notes are very off key. I also didn't rip Rollerball (NES) because it's already been done. That's the 2nd time this week it's happened, parrothead1983! Please make sure your soundtracks aren't already in the OP before requesting!

OK, I'm catching up now! I should be accepting requests again pretty soon!

Hey now folks! I've got nearly 150 GBs of just OSTs (mp3 only) sitting on my external drive and I managed to limit it down to 5. XD

I'm just hoping to hear about some other worthwhile soundtracks to spin. Since 5 OSTs is proving to be an obstacle, how about a more broad approach? What game OSTs would you consider essential, before-you-die listening? No limit ... though you may want to keep the list reasonably brief so as not to flood the thread.

I'll take a different approach and try to list my favorites of less heralded OSTs (though "less heralded" is a matter of opinion in some cases).

NES
Mega Man 3, Flying Warriors, Shatterhand
SNES
Lufia 2
Genesis
Gaiares, Langrisser II
Sega CD
Stellar-Fire, Lunar: Eternal Blue, Vay
Turbografx
Soldier Blade
N64
Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon
PS1
Wild Arms, G-Darius
PS2
Wild Arms V, Wild Arms 3, Atelier Iris 3
PSP
Ys Seven, Sora no Kiseki, Knights in the Nightmare
Gamecube
F-Zero GX, Ikaruga
3DS
Kid Icarus: Uprising, Etrian Odyssey IV
PS3
Sen no Kiseki
Wii U
Hyrule Warriors
iOS
Chaos Rings 2, Final Fantasy Dimensions, Tiny Defense
Steam, etc
Freedom Planet, Warriors Orochi 3, Under Defeat HD

Okay, let's imagine i'm taking a trip for a week to my uncle who lives far away and i can take only 5 video game soundtracks (including game rips - consider them as bootlegs or smth)...

1) D2 by Kenji Eno
Examples: Interlude 6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j98l3PAPGIg), Theme of "White" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s48CJNeUgkQ)

One of interesting examples when music of game is composed by game director himself. D2 is very contrary game, and it's music isn't unified too. It balances between sad, heartful "chamber music" tracks which usually based on piano & strings, beautiful, emotional melodies AND powerful electronica pieces with blending of techno, drum'n'bass etc.

2) Metal Black by Yasuhisa Watanabe
Examples: Red & Yellow (Attract) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42MQq-Ul5Qw), Round 2 - Cry for The Moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j6BvgG7o-w), Dio panic! (Bocc C) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFaJ_gNidno)

This soundtrack is like an art-rock album or something like this. Very interesting song structures, especially work with rhythm.

3) Astal by Tatsuyuki Maeda
Examples: Into the Darkness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBOuuI-htzE), River of Dreams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxP_2VmWDQE), Sea of Clouds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YweLBAh0nE), The Crystal Palace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp4AZvCO8mA)

Absolute masterpiece. For me, it's the most beautiful music i've ever heard in games. For real.

4) Armored Core: Last Raven by Yuki Ichiki, Ayako Minami, Hideyuki Eto
Examples: 5 point Five (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_Z526ltnwo), Telecast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe-OtV687UM), Fallin' Device (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbWsO3vfcH8), I'll Talk You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34egIHrMS-s), Six (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFOlTvEL264)

Well, most bada$$ of PS2's Armored Cores has the most bada$$ soundtrack in series. Forget about Kota Hoshino's melodies - we have absolutely insane IDM here. Uncommon time signatures, scratchy basslines, reversed samples, hip hop beats... So many things happen here.

5) Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines by Rick Schaffer + licensed tracks by various artists
Examples: Hollywood Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff1DjBe3LOM), Club Asylum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y33hGaEgW7U), Chinatown Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJDwOK8Ke7Y), Club Asp Hole (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llm0N7nA3kA), Vesuvius (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdinDtZFE7Q), Hollywood pt.2 (Unused) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SycUY7ANtD0)

I rarely like licensed music in videogames, but in VtM:B selection is very good and fits game perfectly. Original score is also awesome, very moody trip-hop/ambient which colours every location that uses it as bgm. And there are even tracks that sadly havent been used in game release (you know that development was rushed), gladly composer provided them with information. Good stuff.

^ okay, i tried. Sorry, chiptune/FM soundtracks - today is not your day.

Alright alright... 5 must-listen soundtracks, huh? Here goes:

1. Bionic Commando Rearmed (Simon Viklund) - It takes the familiar tunes from my favorite game of all time and spins into the modern style of music that I listen to every day. It's the perfect combination!

2. Quake II (Sascha Dikiciyan) - One of Dikiciyan's first soundtracks, and it's industrial metal at it's finest. I was really disappointed with the Nine Inch Nails soundtrack from the first game (being a rabid NIN fan) and Q2's music was everything I'd ever wanted.

3. Future Tactics: The Uprising (Tim Follin) - This game's music gets absolutely NO respect. I've read countless articles about the Follins and it's rarely ever mentioned, or if it is, it's in passing. But it's AMAZING! It's every bit as good as the compositions he'd written for 8 and 16 bit systems, but with a full band and top-notch production. A masterpiece!

4. Katamari (Various) - Which particular Katamari album, you say? I dunno! All of them! They're all amazing, and offer so many different fun, fresh styles. From lounge to trip hop to chiptune, it's all here and all awesome.

5. Mother 3 (Shogo Sakai) - What can I say? It's about 250 tracks and 6 hours of pure bliss. I still can't believe that one man wrote the whole thing. I love this game, I love the music, I love it all.

So there ya go! It wasn't that hard, actually. I was very certain of all my picks. :)

Gee you guys kinda listen to dark music huh... lol
I'm going to bring a bit of positive energy here. :)

OK I REALLY tried harder... I checked EVERY OST I have... And came up with that list...
Sorry, couldn't bring myself to choose 5 only... Had to choose 10... lol

These OSTs... I listen to them almost every week.
They're the BEST OF THE BEST.
(Baaah who am I kidding, there are thousands more which are the best of the best lol)

- After Burner II - ARCADE (Saturn version cos the sound is cleaner)
"Final Take Off" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4q7uHdURTo
As usual with me, that's the coolest kind of music I listen while driving. lol :)

- Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3 (I cheat a bit here he he) - SUPER FAMICOM
"Stickerbush Symphony" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J67nkzoJ_2M
(God, ALL youtube versions SUCK compared to the one I have on "Donkey Kong Country & Land Music Collection")
Very relaxing music, and the rest of the OST is very "easy listening", also I love ANY kind of OST which makes me feel I'm in the nature. :)

- Heroes Of Might And Magic IV - PC
"Hope" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtfcJ874pMo
This music reminds me of my Northern European origins. It's my true self.

- Interstate 76 - PC ("Original Game Soundtrack", which contains SFX)
"Never get outta the car" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF2aWp9YPJ4
Maybe the album which got me into funk. Funny thing is, I never found better. Another album to listen to while driving.

- Kid Chameleon - MEGADRIVE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFAMM64I_bg
lol I had to add the OST of my favorite platformer ever, even if most people would find the music unsignificant.
Love makes people blind. ha ha
(apparently 16 bit Audiophile is going to release their version.. omg)

- Outrun - ARCADE (S.S.T band version)
"Passing Breeze" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cya0QYKkQU
This might be the best rearranged version of Outrun, made by the original composers too!

- Pandemonium - SATURN
"Skull Fortress" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkjAq6G8AOs
This one too has kinda Celtic melodies, I really dig the "fantasy medieval" theme. A truly hidden gem.

- Sonic 1,2,3 - MEGADRIVE (16bit Audiophile Project version)
Sonic 3, "Angel Island Zone Act 1" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1E-IypsX8E&index=3&list=PLEeAvoMXmmr9psbx6FISG8oXHktZUz2-u
I know that Sonic 3 isn't considered the best OST, but it grew on me as I aged. Now it's my favorite of all Sonic games.

- Toe Jam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron - MEGADRIVE (16 bit Audiophile Version)
"Lewanda's Love" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQnDpvzyzt0
I checked that one out AFTER finding Interstate 76. I never even heard of this game back in the early 90s.
I'm so glad I did now... Not only the OST is great, even the gameplay is really fun and quite unique too.

- Violent Storm - ARCADE
"We Are Free" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQcf_bL8qF4&list=PLAE97B9B3F54D6689&index=9
I don't know what to say, it just makes me happy. I feel that everything is going to be ok when I listen to this. ha ha
I wish they used music like this in "Kung Fury". ha ha ha XD
Oh, and great beat'em up too, btw. I recommend it.

Is it normal I find it physically painful to choose only a few OSTs? ha ha the torture! I'll never do it again! XD
Ok now let's narrow it to 5 tracks! ha ha jk

I hope you guys like SEGA, cuz it's a Service Games PARTY all up in here!

Saturn

Virtua Fighter - The original. The classic. I first saw this game in an arcade in the mall and I HAD to play it. It ate many of my quarters that day. For the very first polygonal fighter, it was really good! The music in the Saturn version is lush and happy, like so much of Sega's music around this time.

Virtua Fighter 2 - Got this one as soon as it was released on Saturn, and I was even more impressed. And even though Takenobu Mitsuyoshi wrote some of these tracks, he didn't sing on them, so I'm OK with it. :)

Fighting Vipers - A Sega soundtrack written by an American? Weird! Anyways, this one is obviously a bit different style-wise from a lot of the other Saturn games, but still really good.

Dreamcast

Fighting Vipers 2 - So this game brought the soundtrack back to Japanese composers (I think? The only name mentioned in connection with music is sound director) and has a really well-produced sound. There's a lot of both rock and breakbeat techno. I will probably listen to this one on the way home tonight.

Outtrigger - A "forgotten" shooter from the later days of the DC. There's a lot of electronic mixed with piano and some interesting instrumentation. Knivesman, I'm curious about what you think of this one... it seem like your style!

OK guys! Just a couple more left in the queue! That was faster than I though! I should be opening requests again soon, before the end of the weekend. :)

The Might & Magic series has been getting some great music. Hard to believe there is a Might & Magic Heroes VII coming out already so soon!

---------- Post added at 01:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 AM ----------

5 soundtracks that have to be heard... That's a tough one!

Super Street Fighter II Turbo - This is just a classic. The melodies get stuck in your head playing countless hours of Street Fighter. I recommend the theme of "Cammy" (specifically from the 3DO version). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoFrSkyHd_w

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - The mix of different music here is just great. I can listen to this on repeat for hours without skipping a track. Fave track: "Dance of Pales" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcI-3XR98HE

Chrono Cross - I played this game a lot back in the day and the music just created such a great atmosphere in the world you explore. Recommend: "Scars of Time" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J46RY4PU8a8

Lagrange Point - This game came out on Famicom but with an additional soundchip in the cartridge. Konami really put that thing to work. Unfortunately this never came out in the states and the extra hardware made it pretty expensive if I remember correctly. It's basically Phantasy Star for the NES! Favorite track: "Satellite Base" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc3rPptw2Mg

Phantasy Star Online: Episodes I & II - Speaking of Phantasy Star...! This soundtrack is too good. From calming forests to upbeat funky sci-fi. #1: "Jungle - A forest cage" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UDinSt0IwQ

Yeah, i like it! "Tryno Bass #107" is my fav track.

By the way while it's technically "shooter", it's pretty arcade-like. Well, it was released in arcades first. Maps were not large so they were more like arenas. Some still look cool:

I was reading GameFaqs User Reviews for it recently, and OMG! People seem to hate chillout relax music, they said thay needed heavy metal or smth. Meh, stay away from Sega's signature sound.

Hi guys! Here are the last two soundtracks left in the queue. If I haven't posted your request, and I haven't told you I couldn't do it, please let me know. Either I forgot to tell you my attempts at ripping failed, or your request slipped by me.

Here we go!

Monsters Inc. Scream Arena (GC) - An authentic jazz/ swing soundtrack that duplicates the feel of the movie.

Ao no Exorcist - Genkoku no Labyrinth (PSP) - Some symphonic tracks with lots of atmosphere.

Alright, here's the deal... I go on vacation for a week in two weeks. What I'm going to do for this coming week is post a bunch of stuff of my choosing that I think you guys will enjoy. Then, while I'm on vacation, I won't be able to post anything due to crappy hotel WiFi. When I come back, then I'll start requests back up again in full force. RathianJazz, I saw your request and assume you probably missed the part in the OP where requests are closed temporarily. I will add it to the queue and it'll be top of the list when they're back open, OK?

OK!

Keep those fun soundtrack questions coming... I love 'em! :) Would you guys be interested if I started a Soundtrack-a-ganza Facebook group to talk about that stuff outside the forum? I'd make it private and invite-only. If I can get around 10 people interested, I'll go ahead and do it.

Has anybody played this (http://store.steampowered.com/app/373390/)? It's a new FMV game written and directed by Tim Follin, but I don't know if he did the music as well. This was funded by Kickstarter, the first backer listed in the credits is a certain Alberto Jose Gonzalez :)

Yes! Contradiction is really cool. A great throwback to the old age of FMV games without the clunky interface and awful resolution/ color. Tim did do the soundtrack for it. It's very understated, but fits perfectly with the game. It's totally worth checking out.

Well, I posted this request a while back:

Actually, I can think of a couple of other cool NES soundtracks that could use some ripping: ;)

-Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper (Game was developed by Natsume, so of course the soundtrack is at least above average)
-Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (Konami platformer that was Japan-exclusive until an overseas release via Virtual Console release a few years back. This game's soundtrack actually comes in two different flavors: The original Disk System version, and a "remixed" soundtrack when the game got ported to cartridge format a few years later. Think you can grab both versions?)

As always, thanks in advance!

This was shortly before the aforementioned discussions took place, so it wouldn't surprise me if they slipped by you, heh.

Japanese computers:
Operation Wolf (FM Towns), Mid-Garts (PC-88), Knight Arms: The Hyblid Framer (Sharp X68K), Providence (PC-88), FZ Senki Axis (Sharp X68K)

Western non-IBM computers
Sokoban Perfect (ZX Spectrum 128), Harlequin (Amiga), Ghost Battle (Amiga), Battle Squadron (Amiga)

Arcade

So no requests for a while? OK I can live with that. As for games with great soundtracks I can think of one right now expect a more complete

Crash twinsanity: You'd be surprised about how awesome sounding an all acapella soundtrack can sound. Least for me. And it was all before smoothmcgroove (or whatever the guy's name is who does acapella tracks of games) Anyways the band's name is spiralmouth in case you're curious.

Happy (?) Monday all! Here are a bunch of goodies!

First up, King Tengu was able to tag The excellent Mid-Garts soundtrack for the PC-88. Thanks, dude!

Here are the new releases:

Arcade

Lightning FIghters - A Konami shoot 'em up with an FM soundtrack by Michiru Yamane and Kenichi Matsubara. Admit it.... you're excited now, right? LOL!

Xexex - I was shocked at how good this one is! Really technically impressive, and the list of composers includes both Hidenori Maezawa and Motoaki Furukawa who are both well-known Konami composers.

NES

The Jetsons - Cogswell's Caper - Wow! This is fantastic. Even though it's published by Taito, Natsume developed it, so Iku Mizutani knocked the soundtrack out of the park.

Bio-Miracle Bokutte Upa (FDS) - Both the FDS and Famicom cart versions of this soundtrack were requested, but only the FDS version has been dumped. Still, it's well-written stuff and worth a listen!

PSX

Fox Junction - Thanks to Knivesman for finally tracking down the disc for this super-obscure JRPG. I'm loving this soundtrack... it's a mix of experimental, folk, electronic, and jazz. So.... Knivesman's perfect music LOL. Because of the obscurity of this one, I haven't been able to find a composer for it. If anyone has a lead, please let me know!

OK, hope this brightens up your week a little bit! :)

Guys. I haven't put up this many soundtracks at once in a LONG time. Feels good, especially when I know it's REALLY good stuff that hasn't been requested yet.

There's a little something for everyone today.

It's East meets West.

Japan meets Europe.

Iku Mizutani meets Alberto Jose Gonzalez!

Yep, I've ripped a whole bunch of games from these two awesome songsmiths! Here they are:

Alberto Jose Gonzalez

Sea Battle (GB) - OK, so most of these AJG albums are pretty short, but cut the man some slack, he was also programming the music, the graphics, and drawing the sprites! Sheesh! Anyways, this one has a bit more of a dramatic feel than a lot of his other more playful soundtracks.

Ronaldo V-Soccer (GB) - There's only one track of any decent length in this one, but it's REALLY good! It seems to be Gonzalez's best interpretation of a Follin brothers track, and he pulls it off extremely well.

UEFA 2000 (GB) - Time for some dance music! Awesome arps and stereo effects are the highlights of this great collection of tunes.

The Morning Adventure (GBA) - This is a promotional game released only in Spain, so it's seriously obscure. It's one of three GBA games that Alberto wrote, and it's some fun piano-driven stuff, with some Latin and dance influence.

Droopy's Tennis Open (GBA) - Man, Bit Managers really got roped into doing some weird licensed titles, huh? There are some great mid-tempo melodies here. No particular theme, just good songwriting.

Inspector Gadget Racing (GBA) - Spy music! Sneaky basslines and horns abound in tracks 1 and 6, while track 3 has a really cool acoustic guitar intro.

Iku Mizutani

Curling DS (DS) - Yep, a game about the Olympic winter sport of curling. But hey! It's a Mizutani soundtrack, so it's amazing! It sounds like enhanced versions of his SNES music. I just wish this one were a bit longer!

Family Tennis Advance (GBA) - Mizutani was one of three composers on this one, and while I don't know which exact tracks he composed, almost all of them are awesome. This one wasn't CleanRip compatible, so I had to do it the old way. Luckily, the notes are clear enough that it still sounds really good.

Jantei Monogatari 3 - Saver Angel (PCE-CD) - The majority of this soundtrack is excellent chiptune, and there's a nice little redbook audio treat at the end, too. It's wild to think of how many consoles Mizutani has composed for, and they all sound amazing! The guy is really talented!

OK! I'd love to hear your thoughts on these! Maybe I'll do more themed days over the coming week, if you guys think it's cool! :)

Yes, we think it's cool, and these Gonzlez soundtracks are really good as well. I'll try to post some more of his Spectrum exploits this week, maybe one day we will have the ultimate McAlby collection here. There are still quite a few of his awesome Gameboy soundtracks missing though, including some of my favorites like Baby Felix, Bombjack, Marvin Strikes Back, Pop Up (these are not requests though). It's crazy how much fantastic music he has on that system, and most of it is hidden away in crappy licensed games.

I have stuff! Hooray! Not as much as yesterday, but it's really good. Promise!

So tomorrow's episode of PixelTunes Radio coincidentally has two tracks from Masaaki Iwasaki, and I started wondering what else he's done. I came across Makai Hakkenden Shada (TG16) and knew I had to rip it because Shogo Sakai also worked on it. Now listen to track 2 and try to tell me that it doesn't sound EXACTLY like one of his Mother 3 tracks! I was pretty excited about it. This is seriously an awesome collection of PC Engine music.

Next up is de Blob for the Wii. I played a bit of this one when it came out and it was pretty fun. The best part about it is the music, though... there's so much awesome funk, disco, and hip hop in here that you'd think you'd stepped into a time machine! And the beats.... my word, the DRUMBEATS in this game kick MAJOR butt! Totally worth the download.

Lastly, a little game by the name of Cat's Part 1 for the X6800 (Note: there was no Part 2.) It's a nice collection of tunes, some of which sound suspiciously like Fantasy Zone. Hmmm....

Hope you enjoy them! :D

Great episode! If you are planning to do this again, maybe ask your listeners to submit categories that you have to compete in, e.g. "Songs That Prominently Feature a French Horn", "Music From 1983", "Least Worst Tallarico Track", "20 Second Loops". Would be fun to see what you can come up with.

And are you guys really doing a Mega Man 2/3 episode? What's next, an in-depth discussion of the Super Mario soundtrack? :)

"Least Worst Tallarico Track"

Now THAT would be a hilarious episode! :D

As far as the Mega Man 2/3 episode goes, Mike and I are both going on vacation next week so we wanted to do something that wouldn't be too complicated. Of course the music will be familiar to everyone, but hopefully we'll be entertaining and informative enough to make it worthwhile. Thanks for the compliments!
