Repairs are being made... this time it's fixes to Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! (NES) and Mega Man 7 (SNES)!

Also, there's one new title in the form of Return of the Ninja (GB). I had to get the music from it for out next episode so I figured I'd upload it. Some of the songs are pretty bad, but track 3 (Character Select) is AMAAAAZING!

Enjoy!

Long time no see Ed, so anyways I have a few things that I have found during my hitas on this lovely form asides downloading some soundtracks of yours as well as some of lossless's stuff.

So first up I have some SEGA stuff here that I've uploaded thus far, and their is some more of it coming your guy's way!

Fantasy Zone - Ultra Super Big Maximum Great Strong Complete Album : It includes every single piece of Fantasy Zone music ever to be written as well as some nice remixes include, and it even includes in the System 16 Remake of Fantasy Zone 2!

After Burner Completed Album : Same thing as the Fantasy Zone Album - Melody versions

Columns Semi-Complete Collection : Same thing as before! Even includes music from Columns 2, but not any other Columns game after that! :|

Power Drift : It's got some neat Remixes and that's it besides stuff that you already ripped!

System 16 Collection : Mostly SEGA arcade games with a little bit of variety!

Hang on Collection : This is the same as the others.

Other Stuff

Project MD : I've finally found a rom that actually has the music in it! So maybe sometime in the near future you could rip?

Bill Tomato Game MD : It's a port of a Amiga that was was set release back in 94 but was never release intl a rom of the game was leaked on to the inter-webs in October of 2014! It's an interesting little momentum base puzzle game that is worth checking out as well as the same people who worked on resq worked on too that which includes the all mighty Matt Furniss!

Honoo no Toukyuuji - Dodge Danpei 1 & 2 : Two more great soundtracks come out of Sunsoft with there signature bass being included for no extra charge! Defiantly worth a listen and maybe a possible rip?

Nice! I've gotta listen to that Power Drift album... those are some of my favorite tracks ever. Hang-On was also written by Hiro, too, and after spending a lot of time with Space Harrier in the last podcast, I've come to appreciate his work a bit more. I'll check that one out, too! As far as Bill's Tomato Game MD goes, it doesn't have a sound test so I can't rip it. Project MD can be ripped, and I'll add it to the queue, but you may not see it for quite a while.

Hey Ed quick question, Have you ever made music before and if so what procedures did you go throw in the process?

No, I don't really make music myself. I do remixes and such using the same tools that I use to make the podcasts (Sony Sound Forge and Acid Pro,) but that's mostly overlaying tracks on top of each other. I'm no musician, I just love music!

I think I've requested this version before, but I can't remember. I don't think it is currently possible, because I tried requesting to ruiner one time a Seta arcade game (I think it was Meta Fox or Twin Eagle, not sure which) and he told me it wasn't possible.

KingTengu is right; the Seta arcade sound system is proprietary (it doesn't use any common YM chips or anything like that) so it hasn't been emulated for ripping yet. Sorry!

Here is a MAME recording of Caliber .50. Using the same method, it should be possible to create soundtracks for Meta Fox and Twin Eagle as well (and potentially other Seta games using the same board). If I have time, I'll give it a shot next week.

Meta Fox only has 2 tracks, but the boss theme (with vocals) is absolutely fantastic. Too bad this is all kinda ruined by the poor sound quality. This isn't just a problem with MAME either, as the original sound files have these issues as well. I would love to hear a clean recording of this song.

For those interested: there are two files (up001014,up001015), that are part of the Meta Fox rom set, containing the sample data of these two tracks + sfx. You can import them into your editor of choice as raw audio using these settings: signed 8-bit PCM, mono, ~7800 kHz. The archive below contains both, a rip directly from the rom, and a MAME recording.

Agreed, what a way to completely destroy this great track. Here is Twin Eagle, which also only has 2 tracks. Despite being the older game, the sound quality is actually a bit better.

There's one I can think of right away... a long time ago, there was a CD OST released of Dark Wizard for the Mega CD which had extended versions of the tracks that are on the game disc. The only rip I could ever find of that was a terrible, low-quality and very quiet rip that wasn't even worth listening to.

Here's the link to the page on VGMdb:

TOCT-6635 | Dark Wizard Symphony - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/2877)

If you ever happen to find the full soundtrack in quality better than what's found on this page:

Please let me know! I've been searching for it for years! :)

Well you can still try to download the iso from "Gametronik", I see it includes mp3s in it, and the quality is not that bad, but I admit, it IS quiet. =>

Hey, nx666, is there any chance of the soundtrack for U.S. Classic by Seta? It had some very relaxing tracks and some good percussion work.

Also, what about titles about Athena and Allumer? Is there a chance of those as well? I requested Rezon from ruiner, and it wasn't possible.

Some Athena games like Daioh and Dragon Unit aren't possible to rip straight from the ROM, unless you turn off some sound channels to play music alone, but you got to be good enough to play through each game long enough.

I noticed that Allumer's Blandia arcade had longer music in the prototype than in the final version. The FM Towns version's BGM is based on the prototype version's.

And ruiner9 (or Ed). I have five requests for you to rip:

Ningyou Tsukai (PC-98)
Metal & Lace (MS-DOS)
Ningyou Tsukai 2 (PC-98)
Ningyou Tsukai 2 (Windows)
Pebble Beach no Hatou (PC-98)

If I had to pick one, it would be Pebble Beach no Hatou (PC-98).

I'd imagine that a combination of turning the sound effects off, using a time freeze cheat, and using an invincibility cheat in MAME would be a pretty good combination for recording some music.

A lot of arcade machines have built-in sound tests as part of their service mode. That's how I recorded the Seta games. For MAME service mode is enabled like this:

1) Start the game normally, maybe wait until you see the title screen
2) Press F2 once to turn on service mode (only becomes active after reset)
3) Press F3 to reboot the game

This will take you to a test screen that can be navigated with the start buttons (by default "1" and "2") and joystick controls. Some games have a sound test on that screen that allows you to listen to all the in-game tracks without those pesky sfx. I just did a few quick tests, at least Daioh and Rezon have this option, and rips should be possible. I usually make a save state once I'm in service mode to have easy access to the sound test later on.

If a game has a sound test, you should be able to record the music in MAME. That is the case for U.S. Classic and Rezon. You can easily verify this yourself using the method I described above. All the Seta games from that time seem to have sound tests.

It's finally done! Nintendo Puzzle Collection - Panel de Pon (GC) is new in the OP! Man, that was a pain in the neck, but I'm glad I have all 3 games up now. Whew!

So, I said I was going to take a break after completing this album, and that's true, but I think I'll still put a request or two up here and there when I'm bored and feeling like ripping. It's not going to be on the level of "5 albums a day" or anything, but I'll make sure there's some new stuff here and there.

Enjoy! :)

Great work! I've actually been doing the same thing with another GC game you couldn't rip for the last weeks, so I know how slow the process is... Only that it has 200+ songs :p

Anyways... I know you'd like to relax and rest for some time, but I'd like to make a request so I don't forget lol
Could you please re-do Pokemon Yellow for the GBC the same way you did with Pokemon Crystal? It has some missing tracks and, surprise surprise, the accursed click sound at the beginning of each song. In fact, I've been re-listening to other GB and GBC albums and they have the sound too (like the Game & Watch Gallery games, but I'll leave those for another request), I guess it was because of the old ripping method and not the game itself after all.

Again, this is just so I don't forget, please do it whenever you feel like it. Thanks in advance!

More Seta arcade music: U.S. Classic. This one actually has sequenced music which made a rip directly from the rom impossible. The overall sound quality is not that great, I don't know if that is an issue with the emulation or the songs themselves though. Going by the rest of the Seta soundtracks from that year it might very well be the latter.

Mostly it stems from the fact that neither Mike nor I ever owned a Commodore 64, so we're not too well-versed on the games. I've obsessed over the X68000, now I'm immersing myself in Amiga stuff... who knows which system I'll get into next?

Oooh, excellent! I'll take a listen on my way to work today! Thank you!

Here's a few requests... both are Hoot recordings:

Last Armageddon (PC-88) - I wasn't really impressed with this one. The soundtrack comes in both OPN and OPNA flavors, and the OPNA was actually much worse than the OPN. I guess the other soundtrack ports are more worthwhile!

Marine Philt (PC-98) - Some decent tunes from a weird sci fi/ horror/ visual novel kind of game about an alien terrorizing a (what else?) Japanese high school. The music is pretty dramatic, and there are some suspenseful tunes in here too.

ALMOST FORGOT! - I've redone Masahiro Kajihara's awesome Hole Chaser soundtrack! The OPNA version sounds much better now, and the OPN version is included, too!

Enjoy! :)

Carat: Magical Block is pretty good with the SC-55! I really liked the ending theme and some of the more lighthearted tracks with the MIDI enhancements, but I felt the Crisis songs and some of the heavier tracks sound better to me in FM. Thanks for sharing that... do you mind if I package the MIDI track with my FM for download in the OP?

And that brings me to some new releases. Yes, new releases! Crazy! :)

Arcade

Elevator Action Returns - A great soundtrack from Yasuhisa Watanabe. There's some electronic in here, along with some James Bond-style sneaky music. It's worth a listen!

Chelnov - Atomic Runner - The "Chelnov Theme" is soooo catchy! I always end up humming it to myself for the rest of the day when i play the X68000 version. The rest is mediocre IMO, but get this just for the theme.

Ghosts 'N Goblins - SpOooooOOoOOky! Haha, these are the classic tracks I'm sure you're familiar with.

Golden Axe - Just a lone YM2151 playing these songs, which is neat because that means all that heavy percussion is FM and not PCM. Anyways, it's a very cinematic sounding set of tunes.

Syvalion (Arcade and X68000) - Coincidentally, this was also composed by Yasuhisa Watanabe like Elevator Action Returns, from two different requesters! I've also uploaded the X68000 version of this soundtrack. They sound very similar, but there's a few differences here and there. Which is your favorite?

But anyway, this leads to a request: Ruiner, do you think you can get the FM version of a X68k shmup called Ku2? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1831WtTFAYQ) I tried to make a rip myself, but for some reason it won't load up in any version of Hoot I have. Therefore, I figure you might have better luck than me in this regard.

I don't have midi files for Sion II, but Hoot can use the SC-55 directly so I could record the soundtrack that way. It's very time-consuming though, as you have to do line-in recordings in real time without knowing in advance when a song might loop/end. But I'll see what I can do. Btw, Etoile Princesse is already on my to-do-list, the more orchestral soundtracks usually sound pretty good on the SC-55.

Hmm I was kinda expecting you couldn't rip Espgaluda and Air Attack, they seem harder to do.
Oh I notice you don't have Daytona USA in your Arcade rips!
I don't know much about these things, but maybe it's impossible to rip the Model 2 system?
Then again, I ripped myself the Saturn version, which is very good, but I notice some nice differences in the arcade version, so I was wondering if you could do it.

Besides that, I notice that somebody asked for the Sega CD version of Lethal Enforcers II, but may I request the Arcade version? (I think it sounds different)
So, anyway I'll just write a list, it's simpler lol.

How about this one? Should be easier to find and technically you would only need the first disc...

OutRun 20th Anniversary Box (http://vgmdb.net/album/5474)

Oh I already have this one. ha ha
Thanks for the advice though.

On the other hand, see I'm a real music nerd, so I'm very annoying when it comes to music dynamics and compression.
See, if you open one of the tracks of the Anniversary Box in Audacity, you'll see that the volume has been set so high that it destroys the dynamics.
I'm no expert, but I can tell you that the dynamics is the change of volume in a song. (think of a movie soundtrack which starts very quietly and then end very loud)
When a music is "compressed", it means the dynamics have been reduced, and sometimes, even completely destroyed.
That's why I'm always looking for very old rips, tapes, vinyls, etc.
Cos back then the "compression" was very limited or even non-existent, in some video games.
Compression makes the volume high ALL the time and therefore the music is more tiring to listen to.
The OutRun 20th Anniversary Box is great, but frankly, when I have time, I'll try to rip myself one by one every original ost, with as little compression as possible.
Anyway, again, I'm no expert about such stuff at all, but I know that I became an audiophile a year ago or so and now I'm very demanding when it comes to such stuff. lol
Most of Ruiner's rips sound good cos usually he doesn't touch the dynamics. (only a few of them have bad dynamics, like for example the Road Rash rips on Genesis I think)
So... Yeah, I also realize that 99% of people wouldn't tell the difference though.
But I wish people would take some time to listen with hi-fi headphones the difference between, for example, an old vinyl of Abba, and a new remastered version...
The same process exists in video games as well, unfortunately.
That's why I tend to be very wary when I see big "boxes" like that, with new remasters.
Same goes for Street Fighter II. The old CDs sounded so much better than the 2000s ones.

Sorry I wrote so much. But well it's really a passion for me. lol :)

Ha ha I hear ya. I think a few emulators SEEM to get it right, but overall I feel like we miss out a lot.
One only has to listen to "theIronGoat" rips or "16-bit audiophile" rips to notice how better they are compared to emulated music. (they're so-called "line-out rips")

The sound is definitely more clear, the highs are emphasized.
It depends on your priorities. I don't know about nx666, but I know that I just like the music to be "authentic".
If I'm not mistaken, the sound wasn't as clear on the Megadrive I as the Megadrive II. (16-bit audiophile uses Megadrive I I think)
His line-out rips really remind me of how my first Megadrive sounded.
Personally I prefer this but to each his own.
Also, I would definitely agree that Fusion emulator does a very nice job for the Megadrive. (Genesis)
I always use the lowpass filter to make it sound less closer to the real thing though.

Edit : it's interesting to listen to Ruiner's rip of Sonic 1 on Megadrive and then 16-bit audiophile one.
Ruiner's rip definitely sound HQ and crystal clear. 16-bit Audiophile sounds more muffled.
I was only saying that I prefer the more authentic sound of line-out rips, but still I definitely keep Ruiner's rip as well,
cos it's the best non-line-out rip out there. he he
They sound different enough to keep them both though anyway. he he

I guess cause KH Insider replaces what Galbadia Hotel site used to be? I can't dload a thing from old gh section and sometimes KH is only thing where i could find smth when i was looking for. Sadly, they don't keep quality and

-

do they steal game rips from here? Oh. Could give credit, damn.

KHI is similar to what Galbadia Hotel once was. Don't know why GH is even still up when nothing works on there. But it is true that KHI has suddenly gained a substantial amount of rips, and it's pretty evident they get it from these forums, including this very thread. Evidence is there; I've seen several rips from there that I retagged from here, and even a few that aren't even tagged. Plus, right clicking on the files and going to properties will show that ruiner9's name is on the "Encoded by" part. Not sure why they don't give credit to the actual rippers; never did as far as I know.

KH is not interested in giving credit to whomever for the rips, soundtracks, OST of any games, anime, etc that are posted there. The guy who runs it is just throwing up an mp3 collection from anyone (huge emphasis on ANYONE) then fails to give enough information as to what the rip is exactly on many occasions. His goal is to simply put up as many soundtracks as he can. As a result - Depending on the game or format posted, it may be obvious to us what the exact soundtrack is - other times, it is not. That's where the confusion sometimes comes in. He even sometimes duplicates soundtrack listings. So while the site can be nice, it has huge categorization issues, full identification problems & quality upkeep flaws that still exist today.

While I'm grateful that I have access to many of these soundtracks from a variety of sources (including KH), it does begin to beg the question of "who is the source?" as you download and build your personal gaming music library. This can be an issue when trying to find particular or correct soundtracks on KH Insider. So, you have to sometimes be wary.

As for Ruiner's game rips being on KH, that is definitely correct. I have confirmed it on many occasions simply by the number of tracks, the exact matching file size, and the exact track names for particular titles. And yes - The frequency of these rips from Ruiner's Archive of listings has certainly increased at KH over the past few months for sure. Not that it's all a bad thing... It is the Internet, and the purpose is not necessarily to cry wolf or police such things. Some may not even see it an issue. We download the mp3s to do as we wish.

I'm not complaining about it myself. I may sometimes get a soundtrack from there, Ruiner, or a variety of others - but you just have to be wary and "consider the source". Because one thing is certain here & you should keep in mind - Ruiner9 strives for quality in his rips, and our community, of course, wants the same. There have been many postings & re-postings of Ruiner's rips here so he can correct and improve various soundtracks. With KH not keeping up and just "throwing stuff up" as soon as he gets it - some of the those titles may never be updated, improved or corrected should Ruiner9 chose to do so at a later date. Ruiner will do this, and inform us, and we can re-download the improvement, even if it's simply just the proper naming & tagging of the tracks.

Just something to keep in mind when downloading from various sources. It all just depends on the game and the source sometimes.

Knowledge is power. Just be aware. :)

As for ghdude's spamming earlier - the only comment I have is... "a little inappropriate". At least towards respecting of the owner of this thread.

My two cents...

POW! Some new tracks come your way! You attack with your ears! Everyone wins!

First up, though, is a remastered version of Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy!

Then we've got two XBOX albums:

Ford Racing 3, which is mostly rock/ funk, and features two tracks from legend Tim Follin.

Also, there's Murakumo - Renegade Mech Pursuit. It's got a huge list of composers in it's credits, and the music has a whole bunch of different sound and themes to match. Word is that this game is pretty awful, so here's your chance to listen to the rad tunes without having to suffer through the gameplay! I've left the tracks titled as they are on the disc in case it helps someone who wants to tag it.

Lastly, Bomberman Wars in the Saturn section. It's quite a departure from the usual Bomberman sound and gameplay, and wasn't composed by series regular Jun Chikuma. It's still really good, though!

I couldn't rip Akuji the Heartless because the music is in an unknown format. Sorry!

Thanks for the two rips, much appreciated! I have to ask, how do you know what songs Tim Follin did in Ford Racing 3? There's no specific song details in the PS2 version's manual.

The filenames on the disc are "TFTRACK" for Tim's tracks and "PSTRACK" for Paul Stroud's tracks. Muddy Funker's tracks are "MF(TRACKNAME)." The only unlabeled one was "SPDFRK" so I couldn't tag it with a composer.

@ruiner9: Hmmmm, might be offtopic, but what`s the current filesize of your collection? I need this information for... research... oooooooon... hooooow... yes, on how much disk space rippers have to have available for their hobby. Just kidding, question just popped up and I had to ask. :)

Quick update on Ford Racing 3, I swear I've heard at least one track in game on the PS2 version that's not on the album, a techno track that's too quiet for it's own good. Was there an unrippable song or two on the disc? This might be a PS2 exclusive song.

ruiner9
04-13-2015, 10:47 PM
The PS2 version of the game is unrippabke due to the files being compressed into a larger file which hasn't been decrypted yet. This was the entirety of the music on the Xbox disc. Maybe it was during an FMV sequence? Or was it on Ford Racing 2?

Nope, definatly Ford Racing 3 and definatly in game, I replayed it a month or so ago. The song was really quiet, almost inaudible while racing compared to the others. I might be wrong, my memory isn't exactly top notch :P. I'll check the game tomorrow as I'm off College.

Some stuff from the past few days:

Sion II: The First Attack (X68000, SC-55 version) (https://mega.co.nz/#!iMIRCJbZ!8h78dB7cIdIVFcgaVTeYMMUHvM9NP79xoct9yRa g0wk) - Most of the songs included here don't actually seem to be used anywhere in the game. Some of the additional tracks don't sound like they were composed on the SC-55 either. Maybe someone familiar with that series can shed some light on this? Anyway, there are a few really good tracks, my favorite is the Stage 4 theme, which sounds like a positively cheesy 70's pop song.

Barcelona Fighter '92 (X68000, SC-55 version) (https://mega.co.nz/#!iEAjDRAY!fmBc8KWxj7DBhdbsi4s3QbeELiGJVSTcPWceb6q KueM) - A weird Street Fighter 2 parody(?) I mainly did this to test a few things with the SC-55.

Superfrog (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!uBBAGAQT!VmVCzRRghFn3QbZYikaeve_FuD5xKR1qUvnGaXv Ad4I) - I think this was also requested by someone in this thread.

Rock'n Roll (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!3ExmBDBL!Qa0Pn93nkfOgqLZg3biMNdRzgLPg7soFEca6kts d238) - A Chris Huelsbeck soundtrack that features - take a guess - rock'n roll music! It's a style you don't get to hear very often in video games and the compositions are really good.

Ghouls'n Ghosts (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!HRZznZ6Z!NrW3q6CzvUTWDIGamfXpDZbdp9jKjD5gNvQrclO cddc) - This is mostly original music by Tim Follin plus a few tracks from the arcade game. The title music is pretty rad.

Ork (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!bFRSCTTT!KBuwbbiazSz7EJDjJDOgHir_VoiCviI-7mTrSMevIgE) - A Psygnosis game scored by Tim Bartlett. There are only 2 tracks, including one of my favorite Game Over themes ever.

New goodies today!

Arcade

Cyberbots - Fullmetal Madness - This one took me most of yesterday and this morning to do. It's chiprock using the awesome QSound engine, so it sounds really good.

PS2

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns - Whoa, I didn't expect 100 tracks to be in this game, and I didn't expect all of them to sound so great! Good luck to whoever wants to try to tag this thing! ;)

SNES

Axelay - How did it take so long to finally get around to one of the greatest shmup soundtracks on the SNES? I don't know! It's dramatic and amazing sounding.

Genesis

Chakan - The Forever Man - A bizarre and noisy soundtrack, using the YM2612 chip in a lot of different ways. I used to hate this game, but it's grown on me.

NES

Low G Man - A super fast paced collection of tunes that'll get you running around and motivated. This is great music to clean the house to! :D

Karnov - Not much music in this one, but the game was well-loved so I'm sure it has a nostalgia factor.

Legendary Wings - Oh man, that Stage 3 Theme is so good! It's gotta be one of the tracks that Manami Matsumae did!

PC Engine CD

Castlevania - Rondo of Blood - Is this it? Is this rockin' Castlevania score the last pre-Lords of Shadow soundtrack to be posted here? Are there any games I'm missing? If this IS the last, it's quite a fitting ending, right? Such good stuff.

Anyways, that's it for today!

I had an idea, guys... since a lot of you have lots of Amiga stuff to share, and I haven't been getting very good feedback from the stuff I've ripped so far, why don't you start another thread just for Amiga and C64 stuff? That way it'll be easily found. I'm not too keen on adding rips I haven't done to my OP because then you start getting rips of varying volumes and tags, which goes against the reason why I started this thread in the first place! I'd consider it a "sister thread" and we could request back and forth and have a grand ol' time. :)

I think that's a good idea, I'm not sure though if there is enough interest for a dedicated C64/Amiga thread around here. This forum has always been very Japan/console-centric. And, at least for my rips, it would still be all over the place thematically: Amiga, SC-55 in combination with various computers, Arcade, etc. But if we get a few people together, I would be more than happy to join. I could even take on a few requests for some of the systems not covered by your thread.

Alternatively, you might want to consider one of these options:

a) We could try to synchronize the settings for whatever mastering you are doing so that our rips are consistent with yours. Not sure how realistic that is though, considering the differences in audio editing software. But at least some approximation should be possible, and I think this would be a good idea even if we decide to go with a separate thread.

b) For soundtracks relevant to this thread I could upload "raw" FLAC versions for you. These tracks would already be looped, faded, and tagged (using your template of course), which should take care of most of the work required. You can then take them through your usual mastering pipeline (which I assume is fairly automated at that point), convert them to mp3s, and post them here. If you want, we can do a test run for this with the Turrican soundtracks.

PS: Your Amiga rips sound totally fine to me :)

That's awesome, many thanks for that.
I have never played the game, I just know how great its OST is. It's a shame that everyone I have met who played Legend of Mana is sharing the same skepticism towards the game itself, because its OST would suggest an awesome RPG.

I don't know if you still intend to upload this OST now ruiner (perhaps if you can have a better audio quality), but it could still be a great addition to your awesome collection.

Something for the weekend:

toile Princesse (X68000, OPM/MSM + SC55 version) (https://mega.co.nz/#!yMASQJQI!qRTRCRPRkzf6lMF3OmAMkSvI-vwY91H0JkNXy3eTqUc) - One of only a few X68000 soundtracks that uses both, the internal sound chip AND the SC-55. It's basically the FM version plus additional MIDI instruments.

The Grail Hunter (PC-9801, SC-55 version) (https://mega.co.nz/#!WEBBlAJK!dfNV9sa0UpPLCxEm-nYdlFb_ldh-4jDI30DxIxlBHFI) - A Wolfteam soundtrack by Sakuraba, Tamura, & co. If anybody has tags for this, let me know. There is very little information to find on that game in general.

I've also been updating my older Amiga stuff. Here is some music by Jochen Hippel (aka Mad Max), one of the stars of the Amiga (and Atari ST) scene. His later soundtracks had a very interesting style that uses a lot of PSG samples and sound like a cross between C64 and Amiga music.

A Prehistoric Tale (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!yZQlmTzY!NXB9B_JdqqJCfq1fRE66cMYLfIKekkiliyux7na x7Ds) - Obscure puzzle-platformer with a great music.

The Seven Gates of Jambala (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!CE5hyL5T!t_zOUSoOSBXq2EwP_NlOgeP4k9prJYqCimU6_Hq 46pE) - The title screen and game over songs have been stuck in my head for the last 25 years.

Wings of Death (Amiga) (https://mega.co.nz/#!TZxhnYZS!wkMwjNmtt5C5vsCWmDpDfSjFJFnr2YMMxsf1ep8 IuPo) - Shoot'em up with a fantastic soundtrack. The level themes are all really good.

Wings of Death (Atari ST) (https://mega.co.nz/#!GIBHFL4J!0di2FfKtAek1gko0lubNvz2Xbf_EyzgF2ZJzODm 7DXg) - If you ever wanted to know how a YM2149F (which is is basically a AY-3-8910 PSG) taken to its absolute limit sounds like, then check this out. I like this even better than the Amiga version. Special mention goes to the title tune, which is a multi-channel PCM track played on the humble PSG chip - although it sounds slightly muddier when played on a real ST.

Hey again. I have some new GBC requests for you:

Spider Man (GBC) - This is definatly not the Spider Man games you already have up, I checked to make sure. This one had some solid music. Alas my cartridge is no longer functional, but I should be able to tag it as I still remember most of the music. The Sewer theme in particular stood out for me.
Carmageddon (GBC) - For what I've played it may only have two songs!
Thunderbirds (GBC) - My memory is hazy on this one, I remember some tracks being rather repetitive.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I would also like to add both Medievil and Medievil 2(PSX) to that list. I'm usually hit or miss on Orchestral OST's, but these are two of my all time favourites.

I also have a quick question. Is it possible to rip music from Demo Disks? The Europe PS1 official demos had some pretty cool menu music, though I don't know if any of them were uploaded online.

11 – Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis) – Alien Power – Yuzo Koshiro

12 – Bucky O’Hare (NES) – Ending Theme 1 – Tomoko Sumiyama

---------- Post added at 01:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:38 PM ----------

We've also go some new stuff in the OP:

Martial Champion (PCECD) - Not a great conversion of the arcade game, but the music is very worldly and well-produced.

Project MD (Genesis) - A homebrew action-platformer that's actually really good! The music ROCKS, too. Excellent tunes, and fantastic high-quality PCM samples. They guy who wrote the music created his own sound driver for the console!

Honoo No Doukyuuji - Dodge Danpei and Honoo No Doukyuuji - Dodge Danpei 2 (NES) - Sunsoft has always had excellent tunes, and these are no exception! It's nice to see somebody besides Naoki Kodaka using the "Sunsoft bass," especially when that person is Manami Matsumae!

Enjoy!

Sadly, I can't do the prototype Bill's Tomato Game for the Genesis due to a lack of sound test.

Also, I won't be doing Elite Beat Agents (DS) because they're covers of licensed music.

Spider Man (GBC) - This is definatly not the Spider Man games you already have up, I checked to make sure. This one had some solid music. Alas my cartridge is no longer functional, but I should be able to tag it as I still remember most of the music. The Sewer theme in particular stood out for me.

By any chance, are you referring to the GBC Spider-Man soundtrack done by Manfred Linzner? If so, I actually uploaded rips of both that game and its sequel's soundtracks to my thread a while back: ;)

On another note, I have a couple new requests for Ruiner: Do you think you can get the music for a Japan-exclusive 3DS title called Gaist Crusher and its sequel, Gaist Crusher God? I already tried to play/convert the files myself, but 3DS files don't seem to agree with my Winamp configuration (and foobar refuses to cooperate with me period, lol). Been pretty interested in this game's music since it comes from long-time Treasure composer NON. :)

All of the songs are split into 4 second sections because of how the game works. Joining everything together would be WAY too much work to not even be able to add it to my collection. Sorry.

Hey Ruiner, I'd like to put a few of my requests in. Finally got another list of five for a wish list if possible:

1. Lost Eden (3DO) - This was an odd game, but just one of those you played on anyway just for the sheer weird, odd-ness of it. But one thing was clear - The Music is really good and like nothing else. While I do have the official soundtrack release, some of the song editions on the 3DO sounded a little different or better in some ways. Would love to have this.

2. Darius Alpha (NEC Supergrafx) - Very rare game for the Supergrafx and proud to have this one in my collection. 1 of only 6 games ever released for the system, and this is by far the hardest to get.

3. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn) - This had an epic soundtrack, and quite a few of them. Very enjoyable RPG from one of the last 5 Saturn US releases before the canned it. Just great stuff, and tons of it.

4. Battle Ace (NEC Supergrafx) - Another shootemup from the Supergrafx. Love my shooters. :)

5. Trouble Shooter (Genesis) - An odd ball game from the very early years of the Genesis. Mainly for nostalgia.

Appreciate it in advance & certainly no hurries. I'm sure you've got others that may interest ya to do first. Thanks for the great rips!

Yareyare, license companies will do anything to protect their precious merch, even if it's just song covers for a video game... Regardless, I completely understand the situation. Don't worry about it - just keep jammin' on.

Besides, you might as well get them form YouTube, torrents or what have you. Or you can, you know, buy them.

Youtube? The horror... I stopped downloading from there a long time ago.

Torrents are all dead. =/

No outlets are selling the soundtrack either, which is something I don't understand. Why worry about who gets the music if they aren't the real deal (again, song covers)? I might just enjoy the arrangements enough to consider buying the originals, so in that regard they're hurting themselves.

Only one release today, because I've spent a lot of the day trying to get music from other games that won't cooperate.

Spyro - Attack of the Rhynocs (GBA) is similar to the other games in the Spyro GBA series. Very whimsical and cinematic.

Here' a list of the stuff I can't do:

Frogger's Adventures: Temple of the Frog - GBA
Frogger's Adventures 2: The Lost Wand - GBA
Frogger's Journey: The Forgotten Relic - GBA
Spyro: Shadow Legacy - DS
Metal & Lace (MS-DOS)
Ningyou Tsukai (Windows)
Pebble Beach no Hatou (PC-98)
Evolution Skateboarding - Licensed Music
Evolution Snowboarding - Licensed Music
Harvest Moon - N64
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dawn of Destiny - Xbox

Yeah, it's a lot. Bummer. Hopefully I'll have more tomorrow!

I'm actually really interested in gaming culture in Russia. What's it like in your country? ...Actually, anyone who'd like to share what gaming is like where they live, I'd love to hear it!

Firstly, i must mention that before 2000s everything was reaching us late.

I can't talk about USSR era myself, but in 1970-1980 there were "clones" (well, made from completely different electronic chip materials and having their own tweaks) of abroad machines of 1960s etc. Here is pretty well written post about that:

Take a Photo Tour of Long-Forgotten Soviet Russian Arcade Games | Motherboard (http://motherboard.vice.com/read/soviet-arcade-museum)

So, let's rewind to 90s.

In early 90s we had clones of Atari 2600 called "Rambo TV Game". No cartridges at all, internal games only, something like 20 games and variations of them.
IBM PC were an impossible luxury at that time, so people had ZX Spectrum instead as computers. A little bit later we got Dendy, that Famicom clone, which was a success through the whole 90s and has cult following nowodays. Most popular games were Battle City, Battletoads, Contra, unofficial bootlegs and hacks (like 8 bit Mortal Kombat LOL). Titles like Ninja Gaiden and Samurai Pizza Cats were beloved too.

In middle 90s PC started finding it's way in Russia. When USA guys were sitting on Pentium with Win 95 we had 80286/80386/80468 w/ MS-DOS, and 486s were very pricey, especially if you live in province. What people were playing? Prince of Persia, Arkanoid, LHX Attack Chopper, Dangerous Dave 3, Wolfenstein 3D and - if u had powerful computer - DOOM. I must note that DOOM is very important for most russian gamers of 90s and early 2000s. And still has much more alive community than Mario or any other "deal breaker" game.

In 1996 Sega Genesis started being sold here. Nintendo tried to officially sell SNES but only kids of rich guys could bought it while not so official Megadrive (made in Taiiwan i suppose) was much more affordable. As for PC, it slowly started being cheaper and in 1998 we had 3dfx Voodoos, Pentiums and AMD K6 etc. Unreal, Half-life, Warcraft, Thief, Diablo... every good game was finging a way to gamer's heart, though it's distribution and localization was unofficial (and often made by enthusiasts) until 2000s.

Snes? N64? Saturn? These words were a mistery for most gamers here. Playstation 1 was the king. Then Dreamcast stepped in and raised the whole generation who believed that Shemnue is the best game ever made. EVER EVER.

Since start of 2000s, gamers started separating into PC and console crowd. PC gamers mostly played FPS and RTS, console gamers... While we had all three consoles represented in market, and people learned things from game magazines, PS2 dominated. Only with PS3/X360/Wii gen people here started buying big trio more equally.

What can i add? Well i must throw out some sad things which DO NOT mean everyone is like that.

- Prices and availability: it's usually PC more affordable and cheaper here (especially if it's custom built) which leads to very strong shift, also sadly many people consider that they won't buy some "useless expensive box for 2-3 games", especially NOW when PS4/X1/WiiU games cost as 1/10 of average salary in Moscow.

- What friends told me to play, wow that's cool: yeah, then again most people don't look for niche/obscure titles

- Love/hate Japan: While mostly everyone was raised on NES/Genesis/PS1 games here, today i meet many many many haters of "OMG that weaboo shit, screw that stupid illogical anime!". What an irony!

- The grass was greener: Mostly actual for PC gamers here, but applies for some console guys too. People fail to see good new games, and consider that since 2006 there is mostly "utter shit that is streamlined and simplified".

- Modding: we usually have ton of talented mappers, modellers, programmers for different games from Quake and Half-Life to Skyrim. "2027" is gorgeous add-on for Deus Ex 1, for example.

- Game dev: well, that deserves it's own post. Long story short: our developers were creating cool and unique games in 1997-2007 era, but nowodays it's only smartphone apps, F2P, MMOs etc.

- Cult games: As i said, people continue praising TES3: Morrowind, Fallout 1-2, Doom, Final Fantasy 7, Contra Hard Corps etc.

Wow! Super informative, Knivesman! My dad majored in Russian history at Yale and has been there a few times before I was born. This was pre Cold War era so I'm sure things were very different back then than they are now. Still, he's always reading books and talking about current events over there, but he didn't know anything about computers or games, which of course is what I was interested in. I'll share your post with him, I'm sure he'll find it really fascinating!

German's rpg Gothic 1-2 or 3DO Company's Heroes of Might and Magic also found huge love here. Or Jagged Alliance, very deep tactic rpg. (Well, our Nival Interactive has made pretty good spiritual successor (gameplay wise, not in setting) called Silent Storm.) If i'll remember some more details, i'll add.

Game magazines were pretty cool since 1998 here, but today they are hardly alive with everyone concentrated on forums and social network. I loved that those zines had CDs with game trailers, demos, software, wallpapers. I didn't have internet connection until 2005.

Mortal Kombat is another title that was HUGE. Oh, UMK3 was among my first games i ever played and guess it was like that for many guys here. So, you can guess, people are happy with MK 2011 and MK X now. Though Tekken 3 on PS1, Tekken 5 on PS2 and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast had pretty big fanbase too. Street Fighter, KOF etc. are more niche here.

Racing games. Well, Gran Turismo is appreciated, i know many people who bought PS2/3 just for GT. I'm under impression that people here prefer simulators over arcades. Well, our game developers created very good flight sims, for example: Su-27 Flanker and DCS Black Shark.

It seems like the later the years get, the more similar to American gaming it gets.

Knivesman
04-24-2015, 12:57 AM
Yeah, you could say that. And i'm relatively young so i didn't witness era of MS DOS and non-IBM gaming here. Oh, i forgot to mention Panasonic 3DO. Not very popular, but wasn't as rare as n64 here.

Btw thanks for Murakumo rip! Really cool soundtrack, full of dirty screaming guitars and funky beats. I guess "ts_" and "kh_" do apply to "Tsukasa Saitoh" and "Kota Hoshino" cause they sound in their style (i still wish to find OST of Spriggan, does it exist?), but have no idea for unmarked tracks.

Ford Racing 3 - "Paul Stroud Track 3" is AWESOME! Sorry, Tim.

I know one thing, Russian seem to LOVE the racing simulation "Assetto Corsa", like me. he he
And I always knew they enjoyed Jagged Alliance and Heroes of Might and Magic series. These people have nice taste. he he :)
Oh hey you should have mentioned the best alternative to Heroes of Might and Magic there is, "King's Bounty", and if I'm not mistaken, it's Russian.
Oh and finally, Russian are also the masters of "casual games", many of them are on Bigfish.com. (lots of the games on this website are American though)
Etc etc. Well gaming is huge in Russia, really. :)
I hope it becomes even bigger in the future!
(they REALLY need to improve their English though. Cos I'm not sure westerners will improve their Russian.
ha ha No offense! Just being realistic. Russian will have to learn English if they want to expand their business. I'm willing to learn Russian though...)

Knivesman

Yes, modern "remake" of King's Bounty is developed by russian devs. Casual games... "Cut the Rope" for smartphones is pretty successful. Sadly no one is able to create AAA games today.

And if you're interested in some "unique games", read about Pathologic. (Yeah, it has not so good english translation which is gonna be improved soon).

Yep! They're there, and totally awesome.

How about some new music today? I've got a bunch cuz I need to catch up.

SNES

Wild Guns - is this the SNES game that's worth so much money? Well, I don't know if I'v played it, but Iwatsuki's soundtrack is AWESOME.

U.N. Squadron - Hey look it's Mike's favorite shmup! I still can't hear anything but Chocolate Rain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA) when I listen to the "Briefing" track. :D

PS2

Broken Sword - The Sleeping Dragon - This one took some work. It uses split music tracks that layer together, similar to what some Wii U games do, so I had to combine sometimes up to 4 audio streams to get a cohesive song. Unlike the Wii U games, though, the individual parts were usually only one instrument and not a whole song in themselves so I didn't convert the individual layers. the soundtrack is orchestral and moody, with grinding electronic beats in the suspenseful parts. Pretty good stuff!

PC-98

Metal & Lace - Otherwise known as Ningyou Tsukai. Pretty good tunes for the simple YM2203 chip, but not as good as....

Metal & Lace 2 - Which uses the awesome YM2608 to it's full extent! This is a really excellent Japanese action soundtrack that's worth a listen.

Game Boy

Pokemon Yellow/ Red/ Blue - Updated and sounding much better now. I know you guys were waiting for this one!

I can't do the two Thrillville games due to the files being encoded in a file that can't be extracted at this time. :(

OK, that's it! Enjoy!

Hey ED thanks for putting Project MD and the Honoo No Doukyuuji game soundtracks out there for people to enjoy! Now off topic a little bit I think that now would a perfect time to rip the Fantasy Zone 2 System 16 remake considering that it was just released like a week on the 3ds eshop! Not only that but they're even a new track from the same guy who made the rearranged FZ2 soundtrack named ENDLESS LOVE that which comes with the new game Loop Links Land that which is bundled in with FZ2 system 16! And the best part is it's only 6 bucks for two fantastic games so if you can just buy for the games themselves plus O think the 3ds section needs a bit more love anyways! :)

I don't mean to be a bother, but do you mind taking a look at your Mouryou Senki Madara rip? For some reason, it's the only album of yours that instantly crashes Winamp whenever it tires to read it... heck, even if I put it in the playlist, it crashes immediately.

All your other albums/rips work perfectly regardless. Perhaps something is wrong with those files??

I checked it out, and it works fine with my WinAmp. I'm not sure what could be causing you issues. I use version 5.65 because the latest version, 5.66, crashes with some of my VGM plugins. Maybe jump back a version and see if that works?

Hi ruiner9. I've noticed in your Tomodachi Life rip that there are a number of tracks missing, mainly these ones:

-The Compatibility Tester (most of the music for this, except for the Compatibility Forecast, is different in the English versions of the game)
-The Dock (In the English versions of the game, music for visiting the dock was added, and the music for when boats arrive was changed)
-The Caf (all the songs in the English versions of the game don't have any lyrics playing, while in Japanese version does have lyrics. There is also another song that plays in the caf only when two Miis are breaking up.)

I didn't include pieces like the concert hall backing tracks or Mii Apartments due to them being sequenced tracks, and I already know why you didn't put those up, but why not include the tracks I listed? Were these unrippable too? And if they aren't, could you possibly update your rip to include these tracks as well?

I had an idea, guys... since a lot of you have lots of Amiga stuff to share, and I haven't been getting very good feedback from the stuff I've ripped so far, why don't you start another thread just for Amiga and C64 stuff? That way it'll be easily found. I'm not too keen on adding rips I haven't done to my OP because then you start getting rips of varying volumes and tags, which goes against the reason why I started this thread in the first place! I'd consider it a "sister thread" and we could request back and forth and have a grand ol' time. :)

I finally got around to actually doing this. I'm still not sure if there is a whole lot of interest for old computer systems around here, but we will see...

nx666's Soundtrack-a-Ganza Vol.2 - Computer Edition (C64,Amiga,MIDI,etc.) (Thread 188804)

Oh wow I never knew about the "HOOT" archives! :O
It's like a hidden treasure I just discovered... lol
Gee I was looking for FM-towns osts for a LONG time and I just found them all.. lol

There's another archive here, too, which has a slightly different selection. Sometimes sets that don't work from joshw's stie will work from here... plus it's a little easier to navigate!

Home ~ Hoot Archive (http://snesmusic.org/hoot/v2/)

They don't have a ton of FM Towns sets, but they have a good amount of other obscure FM soundtracks and MSX, too.

I'm having a quite difficult time installing Hoot. What are your suggestions, ruiner9?

ruiner9
04-27-2015, 03:23 PM
You don't really need to install it. Just extract it to a folder, make sure you place the correct sound files in the correct folders, and run hoot.exe. You may need to select the <R> option from the dropdown menu to refresh the list. You'll also need the OPNA drum samples from http://snesmusic.org/hoot/drum_samples.zip for the YM2608 tracks to sound right.

There's also a very informative FAQ:

ruiner9

You may need to open hoot.ini and make sure the directories are correct. Also, don't unzip the music files! If you're unzipping them, that's your problem.

I've finally found a Audio Recorder that records in good quality and doesn't record at a really low volume like Audacity does on my PC, so when I have time I'll try recording the sequenced Gran Turismo 2 songs like I was going to do quite a while back. I'm also working on my own OST project which is going to take quite a long time to complete.

Alrighty, here's a bunch of requests!

3DS

Gaist Crusher and Gaist Crusher God - Two long and excellent soundtracks from Treasure's long-standing composer, Norio Hanzawa.

SNES

Kirby's Dream Course - Some fun cartoony jams from another talented Nintendo-friendly musician, Hirokazo Ando.

DS

Sega & Sonic All-Stars Racing - It's neat to hear DS-sequenced versions of a lot of the really popular themes from House of the Dead, Sonic, and Jet Set Radio. There's a lot of good music here.

The Legendary Starfy - Why are all of today's soundtracks so long? Here's like, 97 lighthearted songs from a cool and underrated game.

Arcade

Daytona USA - The sequenced version of my favorite (not really) arcade game. Of the two, I hate this one just a little bit more than the Saturn version. :)

Lethal Enforcers II - Chip-country-western? Is that a thing? Well, it is now.

Michael Jackson's Moonwalker - Two YM2612's in tandem belt out MJ's greatest classic hits. Sounds a little better than the Genesis version because there's more available instruments and some better drum samples.

Sega CD

Lethal Enforcers II - These are arranged versions of the arcade songs, which is pretty cool.

There's one unrippable game I've come across so far, and that's The Urbz: Sims in the City (DS). Bummer.

Enjoy!

Here is something I posted today that might be of interest for people here as well. You can find these soundtracks in my thread (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/nx666s-soundtrack-ganza-vol-2-computer-edition-188804). Shameless plug, I know :)

Cynthia (X68000) SC-55 Version - Obscure doujin shmup with a pretty good MIDI soundtrack. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on the composer.

Napo.sun Compilation (X68000) OPM/MSM - This a collection of all the tunes by Japanese musician Napo.sun. While this is not technically game music, it is certainly up there with the best that this system has to offer. Highly recommended for fans of X68000 FM music.

You're welcome! I've done the only N64 wrestling games that I can, and I stay away from the CD based games because they're just lower-quality versions of the real entrance themes that you can get from WWE and such. Did you have any particular titles in mind that don't have licensed music?

As a non-native English speaker, I can enjoy silly lyrics, but I can imagine that for a native speaker, it might be unbearable to listen to Daytona USA. ha ha :)

Anyway thanks for the great work! :)

nekorb should be happy with me today!

It's a gigantic update!

Here's what's new:

Arcade

Progear - Known as Progear no Arashi in japan, this one's a QSound driven Cave shooter published by Capcom. It's got an interesting soundtrack, it's almost genre-defying. Suspense? Is that a genre? We'll go with that.

Out Run - Kawaguchi's classic original! This guy knows how to create the CATCHIEST melodies! You'll be humming "Magical Sound Shower" in the shower tomorrow!

Alien Storm - Some said it couldn't be done. Well, it can! Feel the FM-driven groove of "100yen!"

Japanese PC

Rayxanber (FM Towns) - Oh man, this is about as 80's as it gets! Violin stings and clean guitar picking with thick synths and heavy snares! Woo!

PC-Engine CD

Rayxanber II More excellent 80's grooves from Yasuhito Saito. Some of this stuff will be great as BGM for the podcast. :)

SNES

WWF Super Wrestlemania - Hmmm, well, between this and the next game, I'd have to say the next game wins out by a mile. The soundfont here is really gritty and abrasive.

WWF Raw - OK, listen to Undertaker's theme in this one vs. Super Wrestlemania. See what I mean? It sounds SO GOOD in this one, and kind of bad in the other. What do you guys think?

Genesis

WWF Super Wrestlemania - Hoo boy. These guys don't know how to use FM synths. That's OK, not many westerners do. So sad.

Game Boy

Spider-Man - This one is the GBC release, and it ROCKS. Fantastic western-styled composition, heavy on rhythm and not as much on melody as Follin and Gonzalez, but still REALLY good. Get this one!

Carmageddon: Carpocalypse Now - I'm a HUGE Carmageddon fan. I used to play the original one on DOS all the time, beat it again when it came out on iPad, and I'm loving the early access Carmageddon Reincarnation game on Steam. Never played the GBC version though, and I guess I missed a pretty decent dance soundtrack. Cool!

Thunderbirds - Ehhhhhhhhhhh I dunno what to think of this one. "Audio Arts" (as the composer is listed) is certainly a western artist, but it doesn't have that quality sound of the two games above this one.

WWF Superstars 2 - Paul Webb knows his stuff, and he did a really good job bringing the themes to life here with some really cool stereo effects.

PSX

Legend of Mana - Was this already posted? No matter, I'd like in my collection anyways. Yoko Shimomura wrote an epic soundtrack worthy of a Square RPG (even if that RPG didn't live up to the hype.)

MediEvil - I used to love this game! There's a lot of spooky orchestral and *ahem* medieval tunes here. Think Tim Burton movie. :)

MediEvil II - Same composers, and a similar vibe, but more orchestral and bombastic, with the addition of french horns and big brass. I'm guessing they had a bigger music budget. :)

OK guys, that was a lot of work, and I'm still not nearly caught up!

Enjoy! :)

Time for today's selections!

SNES

Super Star Wars Trilogy - Yessir, Paul Webb's renditions of all 3 Star Wars movies' soundtrack on the SNES. He did a bang-up job, too!

Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures - Another LucasArts soundtrack, taken from the movie.

Godzilla - Kaijuu Daikessen - Kind of an understated soundtrack for being about giant monsters battling each other. But hey! Whatever!

TG16

Battle Ace - A flying/ shooty game for the SuperGrafx. Really bass-heavy. Some nice grooves, and good melodies too.

Darius Plus - So Darius Alpha was actually requested, but it's the same dang game with the regular levels removed, making it a boss rush mode. Darius Plus has all the Alpha songs plus more, so that's why we're going with it.

3DO

Lost Eden - An RPG of sorts? On the 3DO? Impossible! No, I know there were a few of them out there. Even though this is streaming audio, the source files are 22khz mono, so don't expect high fidelity stuff.

Saturn

Panzer Dragoon Saga - I should really play through this game at some point. I've played them all except this one. It's a really long, epic soundtrack.... very cinematic with hints of electronic in places.

So there ya go! Enjoy! Also, I forgot to celebrate my 1337 posts earlier this morning! :)

Hey Ruiner,

Thanks for the last requests, sorry they weren't really to your taste.

Legend of the River King 2 (Game Boy) - I was introduced to this soundtrack via this soothing little tune (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2o1NxeNFAI).
Master of Monsters (Genesis) - Which has some good moody tracks like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUfShCLcipk).
Afterburner III (Sega CD) - Not actually an Afterburner game. Actually based on Sega's G-LOC game, the music is arranged Afterburner music from the FM Towns port (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1-gLREz48Q). Mostly it's very rock heavy, but then there's this track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKhrZnlvHmI) which wouldn't be out of place in a Streets of Rage game.

Hope you enjoy these picks when you get to them!

Rakugakids has been requested before. It's not rippable, unfortunately.

What a shame! ><

Too bad there is no OST released, only 4 tracks on "Konami 99" sampler.

Here's a few soundtracks for ya! These are requests from Antosh and MarvelB:

SNES

Magic Knight Rayearth - The arrangements may leave a bit to be desired in some places, but it's an overall solid RPG style soundtrack.

Mr. Nutz - This one was written by famous French composer Raphael Gesqua. It was one of his first retail games after leaving the demoscene, and it's really good! Solid compositions, very long tracks (some over 5 minutes before looping!) and great instrumentation. Mr. Gesqua now writes movie scores and I can see he had the talent for it even back when this game was made.

Tenchi Muyo! Game-hen or Tenchi Muyo RPG as it's unofficially known in English-speaking countries - A lighthearted soundtrack for this anime-inspired strategy RPG.

Japanese PC

Ku2 [Serious Mode] (X68000) - This is one half of the Ku2 collection, which includes serious and comical mode. Both games are treated like different titles, with different disks to load them and different soundtests. That said, this one doesn't even work in Hoot, so I had to log VGM files from an emulator, so it took a little while. It's worth it though, because it's some really excellent FM shmup music! Comical mode will be coming soon, I'll start on that within the next few days.

Enjoy! :)

There's a couple quality titles in store for you today!

Lords of Thunder (Sega CD) - This is an "arranged" or "alternate" version of the original TGCD soundtrack. People around the internet seem to say it's the better of the two. I think I have to agree. It's just overall a better sound.

Ys - Ancient Ys Vanished (X68000) - Here's one of my favorite FM chips belting out legendary tunes from Yuzo Koshiro and Mieko Ishikawa. It's just... it's just perfect! :parrot:

Also, Rezon and Dragon Unit use the Seta x10 sound chip that can't be ripped from, and Acrobat Mission is also incompatible with M1 for unknown reasons, so I can't do those.

Can I request the Etrian Mystery Dungeon (3DS) soundtrack, please?

Ah... I requested Rezon, Dragon Unit, Acrobat Mission and Ys (X68000) to nx666, but I'm thankful that you managed to cover Ys. nx666 already posted Rezon and Dragon Unit on his topic, and will post Acrobat Mission sometime this week.

Again, thank you very much for posting Ys. :)

Excellent! Is he recording from MAME? I really don't like doing it that way, but if that's what needs to be done to get the soundtrack, I'm glad he doesn't mind!

Can't do Bomberman 64, unfortunately. :(

Well, that's a shame. :( Thanks anyway, though. And even more thanks for the Ku2 rip! :)

I'd still like try one last request for the moment, though.... is an HQ rip of the GBA version of Aero the Acro-Bat doable? I always enjoyed the music from the SNES version and its sequel, but I'd like to hear how the portable version fares in comparison. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the previous requests, ruiner9. Now I have new ones:

HIBIKI (1992 - PC-98)
Mobile Suit Gundam Hyper Classic Operation (1992 - FM Towns)
Square Resort (1992 - X68000)
AZURE (1993 - FM Towns)
Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman (1994 - PC-98)

The first four were composed by none other than Ryu Umemoto, who later became notable for composing some CAVE games and later died. Except for the Gatchaman strategy game. That's to expand the Family Soft soundtrack library.

Sad to say Locke_gb7's NES-SNES Soundtracks is dead. Some copyright troll made a false claim.

Also requesting five games, all from the Same series. In order of priority

1. LUNAR: Silver Star Story (Saturn)
2. LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue (Saturn)
3. Mahou Gakuen LUNAR! (Saturn)
4. LUNAR: The Silver Star (JP Mega CD)
5. LUNAR: Eternal Blue (JP mega CD)

For the first two you can use the PSX versions to compare track names. The music is, in theory, identical to it since the PSX ported the Saturn versions.

With your permission, ruiner9, I can use them to help revive my thread "Songs of the Silver Star", which had all my LUNAR music in it.

Sure thing, KusanagiShiro, as long as I'm credited for the rip. :)

Here's an eclectic trio of soundtracks today!

Revolter (PC-88) - This is the first soundtrack ever written by co-composers Masaharu Iwata and Hitoshi Sakimoto. I was even able to get info on who wrote which song! It's really good, and it seems like they had a lot of fun while making the game's music. They even did some "covers" of existing games for other systems in the sound test!

Soukaigi (PSX) - From what I understand, this game is a bit like Tenchu. The music is very well produced orchestral and very bassy rock. I like it a lot.

Cool Boarders 2 (PSX) - I was surprised to see Japanese names in the composer listing, as this is pretty decent American-style surf rock.

Happy listening!
