My request is, if someone who knows how to check for lossless integrity downloads this, please check it's quality and tell me if it is a proper lossless(i gained this ost a while ago, and i am unsure of it's integrity, one reason i didn't upload it before).
I don't have any reason to doubt this upload, but i am unsure of it's origins, so i am being careful about this.

Also, i don't know if someone of you got this incredible box, but i've downloaded the whole box some months ago, Lossless rip, and there was sound problems, i don't know if this is from a bad rip or the album itself but it was pretty annoying, the sound was not stable on some tracks of the Resident Evil Rebirth disc and Resident Evil 3 disc.

that's sad many don't know how to confirm is that lossless or transcode..
I checked the Rage of the Dragons FLAC rip and I verified that it was the 192kbps MP3 version around on the net (including Galbadia Hotel). I am 100% sure of this - Not only it's audible from the first listen, but I also checked the spectrum and verified that they were identical. Unfortunately, this makes it a bootleg, or possibly even a transcode. Although the KOF 2003 AST and KOF Neowave AST that I downloaded were pure lossless, so EmteCoke is not totally unreliable, he just has to point out which are the bootleg rips.

If you can manage to make full use of the search function (which is, tbh, in great need of improvement) more efficiently, you can be easily guided in to this thread in which both albums in subject is right sitting (
Thread 40557).
It seems a little bit bothering whenever someone with a low post count (which reason is pretty obvious) simply jumps in and make such hasty actions without much basic guidelines in mind upon discovering a new continent full of treasure. It is understandable as I don't mean to blame anyone, but I assume it is not a pleasuring sight seeing different people come and go requesting the same bunch of albums over and over: "can someone plz upload all soundtracks of (insert random game here), thxalot!!!"
Just so you know, I uploaded a few rare OSTs so my post count doesn't mean jack.
Second I'm not using FFShrine's crappy research function, I'm using google to search through this forum (so I can type things like : "Seiken Densetsu" site:forums.ffshrine.org inside the searchbox and it takes into account all the terms and voil).
EVERYONE should try and learn search using google , it's such a help!
Third, would you stop being rude to newcomers? I come here share and request what's the harm ?
Fourth, It's not like nobody has the Dodonpachi resurrection / daifukkatsu osts, they were shared in another thread that's dead and gone, I did research already.
Vrantheo
07-24-2011, 02:32 AM
Firstly yes, Google is much better at handling the search results.
I'm never discriminating people just because they have low post counts. When I joined this forum, the first post I did was to help with another lossless collection thread (
Thread 50598) too.
When I make requests myself, I always do them after I make sure if the subject is new (ie never mentioned before) or dead (links are really down). What I really meant in the previous post was that there're quite some people who simply barge in and ask for things without checking the thread out thoroughly at all, and they are just usually happening to be newcomers. Everyone used to be newcomers and needed to learn, as I also already said it was fully understandable.
To sum it up, my intention is to encourage those people to be more efficient in exchanging shares and requests, not to bitch at them. We wouldn't like our dear contributors to feel like "hey, I just uploaded this album a few pages ago, why don't people look more carefully?"
PS: So the Dodonpachi links are down? That's another story. I happened to have a copy of the Black Label rip (not sure if it has the audio glitch issue mentioned in that thread though). If I have time I might upload it myself some other day if no one else has a more secure rip of it.

APE is much more popular in Asia as most rips from Japan (which is one of the major sources of lossless VGM) use it, and it has slightly higher compression ratio than FLAC.

Damn, my Hack G.U. links have already been taken out.
I hope someone's not reporting them, because I doubt this game is in their blacklist.
Any pro tips to avoid such rapid deletion from Megaupload? I'd like to keep all links on one place so I can see when one is taken out.
(I could name them with md5 haches, and if they open the files to check what's inside, I could put a password... but I hate passwords)

Just .rar it and encrypt filenames. Lock if you must, make password your sn or something or other. Also, multiupload since megaupload and rapidshare are horrible nowadays. Mediafire seems to be very good as well.
Also, did you mean for the 2nd link to be the 2nd OST or DIsc 2 of the first OST? Because it's Disc 2, meaning the cover art does not apply.

A simple and lame trick of faking a file extension might also do.
On the other hand I wonder how's the average condition of web connections from abroad to Chinese hosting services like 115 and 0rz.co, as they've started to appear more and more frequently in this thread for their fame of having lots of obscure/rare stuff. I have access from the inside but I'm not sure if they're good for international use. You may like a try with uploading something while having a look at the speed.

Just .rar it and encrypt filenames. Lock if you must, make password your sn or something or other.Won't make any difference, we've tried all this in the past. It's not like someone at Megaupload is going to look inside every rar file that gets reported, they must get millions of reports a day. I imagine they just delete as soon as someone flags it as copyrighted material.
Multiple hosts via multiupload is the answer, and make a copy of all the resulting link URLs as multiupload links themselves get taken down now.
Sirusjr
07-25-2011, 03:20 PM
I think it might even be something as simple as megaupload keeping tabs on this thread. In any case, you should have read the first post where I say specifically not to use megaupload because links are killed fast. Hell there is no point on here anyway because you can use any number of mirror hosting sites (mirrorcreator) and indirectly create a megaupload link as well. As to passwords, I think it is useful to use one on posts just to stall the time it takes for the files to be removed. It doesn't have to be anything long or complex.

Multiple hosts via multiupload is the answer, and make a copy of all the resulting link URLs as multiupload links themselves get taken down now.
Multiupload failed me many times already like you said. I wasted most of today re-uploading at 70kbps the hack G.U. OST1 (both CDs) which is as big as 940 Mo.
When I went back to my computer to post the links, they were deleted BOTH from Multiupload, AND the new Megaupload link that was created was destroyed.
Someone can correct me, but since I only changed the name to "HGU" + a random md5 hash it didn't modify the file hash that they kept on megaupload (SHA256 or more to avoid collisions) so maybe multiupload noticed megaupload took down the file and automatically deleted the created link.
OR, there are simply people reporting links on this forum as we speak. :(
Now I don't mind uploading all I can put my hand on here for everyone to download, but if I have to keep track of all the links from every sub-host aswell - I can do that for a time alright - very soon it's gonna be a pain for me to maintain and I don't like that.
EDIT: I'm trying out Rapidspread as an alternative to Multiupload, we'll see how long my data will last u_u
alc123
07-25-2011, 05:18 PM
OR, there are simply people reporting links on this forum as we speak. :(Well, yeah. That's pretty much what's happening, it appears. I doubt Megaupload employees ever go looking for content to be deleted - they have a business to run, and that business revolves around people purchasing premium accounts to gain access to exactly the kind of stuff that's posted here. They delete stuff only because they have a legal obligation to do so.

How to upload files
After you login, click the navigation bar on any page of our site -> my resources -> upload file. We currently support three methods of uploading: normal, via Java plugin, via FTP.
Normal method is for small files that are less than 200Mb (Mbits? MBytes? confusing indeed). You just need the common Flash plugin to do it. However, no transfer resuming is supported.
Java method can handle middle and large files. Extra plugin required. Can resume.
FTP is best for rapid and batch uploads. You need an FTP client. Can resume. Supports FXP. This is our most recommended method.

The site is Chinese. The people there are also Chinese. Only most of the uploaded contents there are Japanese (duh). It is in fact not a big problem since the users are mostly not Japanese literates either.
I'm indeed a native Chinese although not a regular there (as I hang around English communities like this thread more often, which is quite rare among other Chinese :P), so I might be able to help with reading some interface text etc once in a while.

由于目前下载人数过多,您暂时无法下载缺乏信仰的文件。
http://blog.0rz.co/?page_id=683
"Faith (信仰)" is a mechanism of Molten Core (the actual hosting service) for handling resources, which purpose is to distinguish the more valuable/popular ones basing on indirect user ratings rather than the simple download count.
When a file has been uploaded there for 5 days, it will be moved out from the original uploader's space quota. The file then will have to receive enough "blessings (祝福)" from other users (which may cost points or such) in order to remain active, or will enter the status of "lack of faith".
Normal users will have limits downloading such files (each IP is only allowed to download one "faithless" file for every 24 hours) while premium users (parodied as "gay users" since 高级 sounds like 搞基) don't.
The interface error is probably their internal business. Just wait a bit then.

As with the previous upload, the music originally came as a single file. Thankfully, it was .flac to begin with, so I split it with the Medieval CUE Splitter. No scans were included, so I provided the available ones from VGMDB.
FYI Medieval cue splitter is NOT SAFE, while Foobar2000 and Cuetools are.
Explanation is, Medieval doesn't produce bit-perfect output when splitting, AUDIO IS DIFFERENT which defeats the purpose of "lossless". There may be clicks at beginning of files or any unwanted artifacts.
DO NOT EVER USE MEDIEVAL CUE SPLITTER

Yuusha 30 Sou Original Soundtrack (2009)
勇者30奏 オリジナル・サウンドトラック
Each disk came as a single file in .tta, so they were split up and converted to .flac as usual
I don't know about here, but it is generally disliked to cut a file+cue into multiple files AND transcoding just for the sake of accessibility.
The log file is now useless, since it refers to one single file that was accurately ripped (read offset is right, secure mode, no cache, no C2). And how can I know you cut it right, let alone transcode it safely ?
It kind of defeats the purpose of lossless since we cannot know if it is lossless anymore... you know what I mean? (you could have done anything to the files we wouldn't know)
That's why it's liked to keep a release as is, or almost (you can edit tags when they're wrong/bad/japanese for example), transcoding from tta to flac is unnecessary everyone can do it and those who can't shouldn't be downloading lossless music to begin with.

Would be new to me. I transcode everything to split FLAC. And I don't change the logfile and cuesheet during the process.

Just merge the split files back to one file. I don't see the problem here.

Just merge the split files back to one file. I don't see the problem here.
Point is, you share the release, not a tampered with version, that you have to reconstitute yourself.
With lossless audio you have to be cautious, if each person that re-uploads the release transcodes/re-tags/join or split it with a different program, you can be sure one of them will be doing it wrong and you can have a bad version of a release. Which wouldn't have happened if those persons just kept the release as is.

On the few japanese/chinese boards that I use to visit is not disliked to split/merge/transcode the rips.... Because as long as you don't edit the .cue files you only need to bring the audio back to its original 'form' and everything will work as originally intended. The only thing that I happen to read from time to time regards the transcoding process: it's suggested to convert the files to the original .wavs... and convert those to the format of choice, there might be loss of data through the direct transcode (and I can confirm this: going from TAK to FLAC I've lost 2-3 seconds on some track of the Tekken 6 Soundtrack.... Something which didn't occur when I worked with the .wavs. I suppose it was a problem with the plugin/codec, nevertheless, I'm being more careful now).

I ask myself why you want to reconstitute it in the first place. Do you want to burn the rip back to an optical disc? For backup purposes? Bad idea...

Not really a point, since a lot of people already screw up pretty badly when creating a rip. Some use bootlegs as source, some don't proper setup their application, some don't create logfile, some don't create cuesheets (some even delete those after they've been properly created by the app). I could continue endlessly here...
Because as long as you don't edit the .cue files you only need to bring the audio back to its original 'form' and everything will work as originally intended.
Exactly. And now please someone give me three situations were you actually need the cuesheet. Because at least I listen to the music and that works pretty well if the rip is properly splitted. ;)
Some here seem to burn their rips on backup discs on a daily basis.
And to elaborate a bit further on the transform of a cuesheet under the splitting operation. That's just introducing and removing FILE tags, which are artificial in the first place. This sort of metadata isn't present on the disc itself.

First of all, I'm sorry if my point is sometimes hard to get, but I'm french and my english, though not bad, is far from good.
I ask myself why you want to reconstitute it in the first place. Do you want to burn the rip back to an optical disc? For backup purposes? Bad idea...
That was to answer the person saying I could reconstitute the wav file to match the log file (one single file). But the cuesheet was modified.

Some use bootlegs as source, some don't proper setup their application, some don't create logfile, some don't create cuesheets (some even delete those after they've been properly created by the app). I could continue endlessly here...
I was specifically speaking of that rip which WAS accurately done(Drive Offset, secure mode, defeat audio cache) until it was split and transcoded. (Oh well, one could argue the ripper didn't use Test&Copy but only copy in EAC)
Exactly. And now please someone give me three situations were you actually need the cuesheet. Because at least I listen to the music and that works pretty well if the rip is properly splitted. ;)
The main concern here is that splitting was not done correctly, gaps were not appended.
And if you play your files on a portable player, and if you want a gapless playback, well then you specifically want gaps not to be there. Which can only be done if you have a proper cue.

That was to answer the person saying I could reconstitute the wav file to match the log file (one single file). But the cuesheet was modified.
It's the same for both logfile and cuesheet:
What data can you match the files against for the logfile? The CRCs, which are either done for the entire range or the individual tracks. The logfile also stores the layout from the TOC, so all information is there:
TOC of the extracted CD
Track | Start | Length | Start sector | End sector
---------------------------------------------------------
1 | 0:00.00 | 3:23.34 | 0 | 15258
2 | 3:23.34 | 4:03.74 | 15259 | 33557
3 | 7:27.33 | 5:04.62 | 33558 | 56419
4 | 12:32.20 | 3:46.08 | 56420 | 73377
5 | 16:18.28 | 5:04.10 | 73378 | 96187
The data stored in the cuesheet is just the metadata from the disc (data from the TOC, combined with some extracted from subchannels, etc.). Like I said the FILE tag there is completly artificial. There is no such file information on the disc itself, neither in the TOC nor in the subchannels.
I was specifically speaking of that rip which WAS accurately done(Drive Offset, secure mode, defeat audio cache) until it was split and transcoded. (Oh well, one could argue the ripper didn't use Test&Copy but only copy in EAC)
I see what you mean, but your point can be applied anywhere where broken/old/unmaintained software is used by illiterate users which just go through some random guide on the net, not doing any proof-checking at all. I've seen people using software from 5 years ago and then being surprised that the application had major bugs.
Give someone without any clue some files and he'll find a million ways to break them.
The main concern here is that splitting was not done correctly, gaps were not appended.
I didn't check this, so they were prepended? Or were they removed completly?
And if you play your files on a portable player, and if you want a gapless playback, well then you specifically want gaps not to be there. Which can only be done if you have a proper cue.
I disagree. If the original source had a gap at the position, then it should be there, even on my portable.
In fact the convention of gap appending/prepending doesn't really matter if you just listen the album in full. It only becomes important once you shuffle tracks and/or skip a lot of tracks. If you just listen to tracks without any skipping then it doesn't matter, since you can't distinguish between all tracks having 2 seconds of silence prepended or all tracks having 2 second of silence appended (except for the first track of course).
I of course agree that appending is nicer, since it makes the usage of the files more flexible.
But it's just a convention and can easily be changed, assuming that gaps didn't get cut out completly.
You're also mixing something up here: Gapless playback has nothing to do with gaps on a CDDA. Gapless playback is a feature of the file format and the encoder/decoder. E.g. MP3 has no native gapless feature, but it was augmented by storing additional information in the VBR/LAME header. So if the decoder uses this information, then it can accurately calculate the song length in samples. This is not possible with vanilla MP3, where you almost always have some padding (blame it on the people designing the format).
All major lossless file formats of course have gapless support, but it just means that they store the exact amount of encoded samples somewhere in the file. And of course the encoder has to properly use the information, start to buffer the next file early and not introduce any null samples between tracks when passing the decoded data to the audio backend.
So "gap handling for CDDA" != "gapless playback".

sure i can but takes some time..
@ Bummer & Leon Scott Kennedy: Yeah Kennedy is right, I got this from a torrent at Underground-gamer, and there was no cue or logs present. One correction to his statement though - these drama albums are actually for the first Biohazard game, not the second one.

In order to make that plugin work first install foo_input_vio2sf.dll then put the vio2sf.bin in the components folder were foobar keep it's plugin then add the foo_input_vio2sf.dll driver to the components folder too and you should now be able to using with no problem.

The answer is no. alc123 can probably tell you (again!) in detail why sharing "interpretations" of binary game code (which USF essentially is) is basically a very bad idea.
They're allowed. You just have to clearly mark it as a game rip.
Well, what LiquidAcid said is why I asked.
KGN-004
08-06-2011, 07:57 PM
Yeah, well his and alc123's opinion regarding game rip transcodes is retarded. They are good and useful.
You can't burn an nsf, usf, e.t.c. to a CD and play it.
The Ultimate Koopa
08-06-2011, 08:11 PM
You can't burn SPC files, either, so if Emte can upload FLACs converted from SPCs, I should be allowed to upload FLACs converted from USFs, right? I already have Banjo-Tooie uploaded to MediaFire anyway.
KGN-004
08-06-2011, 08:17 PM
Yeah. Most of what I've contributed to this thread are nsf, gbs, and spc transcodes. :P And Jessie and peoples haven't said anything about it not being allowed in this topic. And Sirus, the OP, says it's fine as long as it's marked as a game rip.
alc123
08-06-2011, 08:39 PM
Yeah, well his and alc123's opinion regarding game rip transcodes is retarded. They are good and useful. For the nth time, and obviously not for your benefit but since people are asking again, transcoding from (for example) SNES .SPC to FLAC is a largely negative process because:
1/ The filesize increase is at least three orders of magnitude.
2/ Playback procedures (quality of sound chip emulation) are updated regularly and for the better. Transcoding to FLAC means that the standard of playback is fixed and cannot be updated without starting from scratch and transcoding again.
3/ Any software/hardware that can play back FLAC can almost certainly play back game audio formats.
Benefits:
1/ Proper tagging, which is often lacked in emulated sound formats.
2/ Correct looping, sometimes an issue with emulated sound formats though I've never really had issues with a correct plugin configuration.
A thousandfold size increase, inferior fidelity over time, lack of necessity vs tagging, basically. There's also the bizarrely common belief that transcoding to FLAC somehow makes things sound better (it never does), and the weirdness of people using general-purpose gaming emulators to record WAV files and then transcode over to FLAC, which is a lengthy and fundamentally pointless exercise. But, as I've also said before, each to their own - if someone wants to waste their time ballooning file size on files that'll become outdated very quickly, for no real benefit, that's none of my concern. As long as they're properly labelled as game rips I can happily ignore them.
You can't burn an nsf, usf, e.t.c. to a CD and play it.You can't burn a FLAC file to a CD data session and play it in a CD player. You can of course transcode (losslessly) to CDDA, but that only makes me wonder why you'd bother with the FLAC interim in the first place if burning CDs of game music is your intention. Of course, I'm "retarded" in your estimation, so that might have something to do with it.
The Ultimate Koopa

But what if there isn't a soundtrack released for a game, because the composers are too shit to release a Mario Kart DS soundtrack, for example?
alc123
08-06-2011, 08:48 PM
But what if there isn't a soundtrack released for a game, because the composers are too shit to release a Mario Kart DS soundtrack, for example? Then just listen to the ripped music in its original format. If there's no solid, reliable plugin for playback available then transcoding makes sense.
The Ultimate Koopa
08-06-2011, 08:53 PM
I assume if for example, assett1 was to take, for example, the USF rip of Mario Kart 64, and then remaster them to be even better quality than the OST, those would be acceptable right?

I assume if for example, assett1 was to take, for example, the USF rip of Mario Kart 64, and then remaster them to be even better quality than the OST, those would be acceptable right? That would depend on what "remaster" actually entails. I think most people would rather have the raw, unadulterated audio emulated to a high a standard as possible. Any of these would be "acceptable" within the remit of this thread, anyway.
Edit: let's keep it civil, guys.

Well, by remastered, I mean things like making them louder, clearer, adding more stereo to them -- just making them higher quality -- of course I don't mean like remixing them in FL Studio or something. I mean taking the original songs and enhancing the quality of those original tunes. Listen to his remastered OOT or Metroid Prime soundtracks.

You can't burn a FLAC file to a CD data session and play it in a CD player. You can of course transcode (losslessly) to CDDA, but that only makes me wonder why you'd bother with the FLAC interim in the first place if burning CDs of game music is your intention. Of course, I'm "retarded" in your estimation, so that might have something to do with it.
Burning them to CDs I can listen to is ONE of my several intentions. And I use them to make yellow book V2 MP3 CDs.
I wasn't calling YOU "retarded", just that particular opinion. :P Yeah, I shouldn't have expressed it in such a way. But I was angered LiquidAcid's pretentious prick aura.

I mean taking the original songs and enhancing the quality of those original tunes. Listen to his remastered OOT or Metroid Prime soundtracks. It is difficult to make audio that is already fixed "higher quality", and to the extent that such a feat is possible it's a highly subjective gain. Arbitrary stereo panning, increasing volume, these things are not good in my eyes. I'm not sure what "clearer" means in this context but most vgm remastering attempts that I've heard were little more than EQing and noise reduction, the latter of which tends by its nature to strip audible data.
That said, if you can provide a link to the OoT remaster I'll give it a listen.
Burning them to CDs I can listen to is ONE of my several intentions.I think my point stands. Justifying transcoding because it might some day be used to burn a CD is not compelling to me.

All these steps have nothing to do with remastering, that's just applying filters to the source data. I feel that a lot of people vastly underestimate what remastering means. Anyone can apply filters in a sound editor to some source file and then claim it sounds better.

Ugh. No one is talking about transcoding mp3 to flac. We are talking about going from native system sound code like nsf (Nes), usf (N64), gbs (Game Boy), e.t.c. to flac by using plugins that emulate that system's sound.
Feels like YouTube.
Rip's are in the same league as Chinese/Hong Kong knock-off trash (no offence). Maybe it's time for a new thread just to keep the peace here, guys? (Just game rips) - As this isn't the first time this argument has come up here. There's been a hell of a lot of it posted lately as well.
Well most old games don't have or get professionally mastered CD releases, so what other choice is there? And the emulation of a lot of the plugins is so accurate, it sounds as it should. So I don't know what you're going on about.
And I'm sorry to alc123 and LiquidAcid for raging on them. It has not been a great day.

Yeah, I know. You'll notice I edited out the angry sounding parts after I calmed down, 20 minutes before you posted those quotes. :P Like I said, not a great day.
Anyway, my original point was that so few games actually have a good sounding professional release, and the emulator sound plugins for some old systems (like NES and GB) are so accurate, and FLAC and MP3 are just so much more convenient than the native sound formats and plugins. It is indeed good and useful to do FLAC/MP3/etc transcodes derived from emulators. For some people, anyway. And they sound fine. Some sound as good or better than official CD releases (but like you said, that's just an opinion).
I wouldn't mind if there was a separate mega thread for "lossless game rip transcodes". But I don't care either way. There hasn't been THAT much fighting about it.

IMO, saying Game Rip -> FLACs shouldn't be posted is stupid.
Sure people can just listen to the USFs, but why should people bother downloading an out-dated unstable plug-in for Winamp, when they can just simply play FLACs? AFAIK, Winamp already has a FLAC plug-in pre-installed. And downloading foobar2000, or whatever, is even more time consuming. Who cares about filesizes? WE're not in the 80s -- most people should be able to hold literally thousands of full Game rip FLACs.

The issue is that the music used in games is usually lossy-encoded, thus game rips distributed in FLAC wind up being lossless encodes of source music that's lossy to begin with. They aren't actually lossless.

After looking at various different game rip formats (USF, SPC, 2SF, VGM, GBS and NSF), the encoding of these, according to foobar2000 are:
USF = synthesized
SPC = synthesized
2SF = 2sf (?)
VGM = synthesized
GBS = synthesized
NSF = synthesized
Is synthesized "lossy" or "lossless"?
It makes sense that streamed audio is 'lossless' though.
LiquidAcid
08-08-2011, 02:08 AM
This description isn't accurate. All these formats contain binary code for their respective architecture (e.g. SPCs contain binary code that gets executed by Sony's SPC700 processor). What the plugin now does, is to provide a stripped down emulation environment to interpret this binary code.
Calling this "synthesizing" is not really correct and hides what is really stored in those gamerip files, namely a dump of raw machine code.

Synthesized means lossless, basically. The samples used in SNES audio are all compressed, and I would bet the same is true for N64, but since these are the original audio, that technicality is mostly meaningless. For things like NSF and GBS where it's just simple waves like squares and triangles making the sounds, those are lossless because it's pure digital synthesis, being produced by the plugin right then. Also most of the streamed formats playable with the vgmstream plugin are reported as being lossless by foobar, but are in fact not. Take for example the SCD format used on PS3 games: it's just repackaged MP3 but foobar says it's lossless. That's really just what the plugin was programmed to report. Much of the time the soundtrack releases will be sourced from the composer's lossless source (although with unfortunate frequency it's made too loud for the CD and then the lossy game streams can sound better).

"Lossless" means nothing was lost from the original source. This still applies if the source was MP3, for example.
Video game music formats are lossless.

"Lossless" means nothing was lost from the original source. This still applies if the source was MP3, for example.
Video game music formats are lossless.
I think that an emulator rip should be considered the same as the transcoding of a CD when it comes to chiptune music, that's because they don't come from the original source.
In terms of quality, VG music formats are lossless because they don't have distortion or frequency cuts, however, they can be (and should be considered) lossy since most emulators are not perfect and the original sound as it was intended or as it turned out because of sound chip qwirks, is lost.
The SMS chip still has some unemulated features, just a year and a half ago, the MAME team emulated newly discovered behavior.
The FM chips have some features that in some cases, instead of being emulated, they were fixed, on the MD, there's a very particular decay in the sound when the music stops.
The SPC plays most samples with certain reverb, some emulators have the option of turning off this reverb.
A lot of emulators that have to deal with sound chips in systems that have games with extra hardware or that have combos of sound chips, like the Neo Geo or the MD, have problems synchronizing the sound.
I can go on and on with several systems and sound hardware. I think rips (emulated or from the Audio Out of a system) are OK because a lot of music has never been or will ever be released officially, but I think is stupid to record to FLAC using an emulated file format, you'll end up with files 500 times bigger than the ROM and/or the game sound format, if it's only for the convenience of having them edited and separated, a VBR MP3 can be enough.
When it comes to the so-called hardfile rips, is a complete different thing, in this case the rip (although it will be transcoding) will be pretty much lossless because the original recording remains in the file and doesn't have to go through sequencing.
This guy is simply amazing (you know who), first he rips to lossless from bootlegs, then he rips from transcoded bootleg CD's, then he encodes from ISO's that you can download anywhere and now he encodes from emulators. Next time it will be his own humming of the tunes.
I propose that a new thread would be started for lossless rips so we can keep this one for official releases. Rules have to be stated being the most important that the uploader must be honest and say what source did he use, emulator, simulator, line in, "hardfile", that way the leechers can decide to download or not considering the source. At this thread there should be similar rules, in this case it would be original CD, bootleg, transcode (which obviously will not be allowed), downloaded ISO, borrowed rip, re-up with tags fixed, etc.

Can someone upload a 100% EAC FLAC rip of the Columns soundtrack, particularly the Mega Drive version?
All of the soundtracks of this game, whether they're rips or otherwise, either don't play the full tunes of the actual in-game BGMs (Clotho, Lathesis or Atropos), or sound like they're being played by a 100 year old gramophone.

No love for crappy Arcade puzzle games from 1990?In the time you've spent asking you could already have just gone here (
http://project2612.org/details.php?id=149), and ripped it to FLAC yourself if you're that way inclined. It's a trivial process.

That does not play the full tunes. Clotho loops at 1:27, but misses the part that plays when you get a certain score (the same with teh other 2, Lathesis and Atropos).

Assuming that's aimed at me: interesting. You should let them know on the forum, someone might fix it.
