Gradius2, do you have Sailor Moon SuperS Piano Fantasia? If so, that would be awesome to have in lossless :) Otherwise, any of that Sailor Moon stuff (Which may be more appropriately posted in the lossless anime thread would also be very awesome.

No sorry, I don't have that one too (not in flac).

I'll look for the others when I can.

Gradius, Thanks.
I was also curious about that : I have the Ys LDs too (yeah I have the Ys 1 box too), what are those Ys LD ? aAnd which box ?
I have the one you requested, the Vocal from Ys, but it ain't on my computer and i'll have access to it on next weekend (8days). I can't recall where i found it. It ain't exactly the version you asked, it's this one : http://vgmdb.net/album/6638

Ah, and did you forget the link for the electric orchestra ?

I'd like to point out that there are quite a few sites that I know of that are actually against saying thank you in threads like this, to keep the thread based around postings of whatever content with download links. The logic being, it is then a more condensed way to have people acquire the content, helping it spread to more people faster (and to people who would have otherwise not bothered looking into the content), and that with the millions of views (in this threads case, 600,000+), and no thanks, it is assumed that there is a demand for said content and that the uploaders continue uploading.
For example, I (try) to manage the collective database of N64 music hacked from roms, here (http://usf.hcs64.com/), and when I had linked to it from the main site's forum, there were very few thanks, if any. I know the feeling, it sucks uploading stuff for a seemingly non-existant audience, but then I checked the server logs, and found it was getting tons of hits, so I accepted that there simply was a demand for it, and people were enjoying it (otherwise, it wouldn't be repeatedly downloaded, would it?). Granted you might not be able to do the same thing in this sort of uploader-ddl site-leecher setup, but I tend to think the 600,000+ thread views mean that there is a strong following/audience for lossless vgm, but they just don't necessarily have the time.
Edit Also:

Unless ffshrine don't become a private site I won't post it.
Why should ffshrine become a private site? It's pretty obvious how "successful" sites like UG & BG are, with people whoring ratios and such.

Nisto, If it helps I can say thanks now. I loved quite a few of the OSTs such as Play it Loud, Nintendo Sound Series, and Diddy Kong Racing (love DKR!) I know if each person said thanks for each OST individually people would complain about oversaturation and it would actually make your soundtracks harder to find. We're up to 240 pages, you'd have to go between the thanks to find a soundtrack. Please know that there are users on here who do care, even if it isn't plausible to post each time. 240 pages of soundtracks in lossless would be a lot of thank yous!

How is it strange? Everything that's uploaded here gets uploaded to a tracker or any other random site sooner or later, and then claims that the one who posts it is the ripper.

Unless ffshrine don't become a private site I won't post it.

Can you be 100% sure than any one rip wasn't duplicated by someone else with their own copy of a disc/file they could have got it from? Honestly, I can't understand being so prideful about a rip. Yes, it can be tedious and I spent several hours on ripping 104 tracks from the LaTale soundfile. Soon as I had it done I packed it up and posted it. I spent a couple hours recording and tagging the Ake-Bre soundtrack from decent web source and shared it before Sliat found a good version. Once again had it packed up and posted as soon as I was done.

I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, but if you're really that worried about being praised for a rip then you could always tag the file with your name and pray that some arse doesn't feel like editing it out. I know someone out there is thanking me and it always feels good to get a response for it but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it if I don't or if anyone tries to claim my rip. I just like to share music.

I'm going to make that my only statement on that matter so not to get into any flame or go too far off topic, but switching off to a related track..

I'd like to give a big thanks to all the uploaders in this thread for sharing, own rip or not.

Edit:

Yes, it's a real lossless rip. I don't know if I should share it on the forums though, seeing as it's so hard to find. I've uploaded rare soundtracks before, but no one ever noticed them, I'm pretty tired of that. Maybe in PM if you've got anything in return.

- Super Donkey Kong Game Music CD ~ Jungle Fantasy is in bad shape, so another copy of that soundtrack would be nice.

Was there anything in particular you were looking for? I could order something off play-asia or cdjapan perhaps if that would persuade u :P.. As far as rare soundtracks go, its hard to get a hold of those lol.. the soundtracks I had back in the day aren't in good quality anymore.. and besides that most of them are already on here.

If you have any list of soundtracks that I can check out somewhere, and I find something at least a little interesting, I'd be happy to share it with you. But otherwise, any rip without log would be nice to have with log, if you can provide that...

I never made a vgmdb list before so thats out the window lol... however I believe I can get Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Original Soundtrack SQEX-10051~2 (http://vgmdb.net/album/299) with a log. I looked all over for most of the other ones. That was one of the only ones besides FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Opening Theme - Yae : Sound of the Wind PCCA-01915 (http://vgmdb.net/album/1882), but that only contains 4 tracks so figured u wanted something a bit more.

Wait, what?! I wasn't expecting you to actually buy something for the rip...

If the price matters, I'd actually rather appreciate something more cheap, the Japanese single "Hitohira no Hanabira" or "Hanbunko", both by Stereopony would do.

You really don't have to buy something though.

Maybe you actually wanted it, too?

lol too late now :P... I don't have many original VGM CD's so its a bonus for myself as well. It was the only way for me to get a hold of it. Cost like $38 but yea. If I wanted to buy Yoshi's Island some where else (if that is even possible) It would cost over like $300 -_- ... Besides you have already provided me with 75% of my soundtracks I have now :) The least I could do :P

When it arrives ill scan the CD art as well for a bonus, include cue, log, m3u, and yea lol

Why does it look like the first CDImage should have the APE extension? The second one WITH the APE extension looks like a CUE file.
Just in case you don't know, APE is a music format. It's popular with Japanese P2P, as far as I know.

Try renaming the first CDImage to CDImage.ape, renaming the CDImage.ape to CDImage.ape, and finding a plugin for the media player you use.

Just in case you don't know, APE is a music format.

APE is also slow, proprietary, closed format and as good as dead, thanks to open source FLAC.

Erm... is Disc 3 supposed to be one of those mini game-paks or something?

Disc 3 is a collection of sound effects. I'm not quite sure what you're telling me your problem is, so I can't help. And I can't reupload it either way at this point because I don't keep lossless rips on my hard drive. After a certain point of no one reporting a problem, I just deleted it. I could redownload it from tora.to, but I really don't want to do that. Could you perhaps explain the problem in a little more detail, instead of giving me a rather nebulous picture?

APE is also slow

It literally takes 1 second to load an APE Extra High file, so unless you're converting your APE files constantly it's really not "slow" at all. And if you're the kind of person that keeps lossless and listens to it, there's no reason to convert a lossless file at all, so I don't know where this complaint comes from.

and as good as dead, thanks to open source FLAC.

Have you ever looked at a Japanese file sharing program in the last year even? Practically every single file is APE. TTA comes in second, and then probably TAK. FLAC files are virtually non-existent. That statement isn't to say APE is better just because the Japanese use it (because I'd take FLAC over the other two they use before it); it is to say that APE is far from dead. The sharing of APE is still very widespread.

APE isn't supported anymore too.

"Isn't supported anymore" by what? I know of a plethora of things that support it. Any CUE Splitter you can find, Winamp, Foobar... etc.

FLAC rules

Why? APE is almost superior in terms of space saving, period (next to OptimFROG, which doesn't have as much support as APE). Other than that, no other codec compresses files down as small as APE does. FLAC comes in absolute last. FLAC files are a joke as far as compression is concerned. APE is also the second fastest compressor next to FLAC, making it very efficient overall.

proprietary, closed format

Bullshit (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/developers.html). APE is open source.
Read up.

Lol. 1-3% saved space is not a reason to use a widely unsupported format. It has no hardware support whatsoever.

Hey, if you want to support APE be my guest, but your arguements wont make anyone here move from FLAC to APE.

Sorry but APE tagging is horrible and it's base program, especially for linux, does not follow base standards, and even allows you to overwrite the existing file without prompting "mac file.ape file.ape -d". Even VLC has problems with it, as it starts playing the audio about a half second into it.

Downloaded the Katamari Suteki and part2 is corrupted respectively track #4

And from the Akumajo Dracula X Disc 1 part 2 is corrupted too as well as Disc 2 part3 resp. disc 1 track #17 and disc 2 track #5

-----------------------------------------

My opinion of the format discussion: I also only use Monkey's Audio and yes because of it's superior compression.

Written in percent it does not seem that much but with my large collection and approx. 30 MB space saving for EVERY disc that adds up. Sometimes over 50 MB.

And really slower?? - No. With extra high and playing the track normally in foobar2000 you don't have problems at all. With a fast CPU it starts instantly, only skipping does have lag but really who skips?? I never do that.

Tagging?? - MP3tag and good.

Will reupload Persona 3 soon!!

That's because APE has had seeking problems for aslong as I can remember.

Is saving upto 20mb per album really worth it to you? Have you ever tried decoding an APE file which was encoded on extra high? really? It takes forever. Also another two cons I found on my searches for APE.

- Doesn't support Replay Gain
- No error robustness

El Bastardo, I'm sorry, but you will not be saving 50mb per album. I'm not sure where you pulled that figure from, but it doesn't match up to any of the comparisons I've looked at. The average disk space saved from using APE is around 20mb per album and is it worth the slow as hell decoding speeds? NO.

I "pulled" that out of my own experience while transcoding lossless files to APE on a daily basis over the last year or so.

My approximate is 30 MB per disc but some (very few) discs saved 50 MB.

I use a quad core CPU and I have no problems whatsoever with the files, big or small.

It supports ReplayGain (admittedly the scanning is much slower but it'S one time only so...) and it does not have seeking problems it's just slower in that department if you use very high.

Is it worth it?? - Absolutely: Just a wild guess but my collection in flac... I would need Gigabytes of more space.

Sure it's not the holy grail but what is these days -_^

ultra diet quote.

Well, ape to me isn't pratical at all, it doesn't necessary means it is good only because p2p japanese uses it a lot, they only use it because is the first compressed lossless format on PC. If you look at ape it doesn't have any hardware support (i.e. portable media players), plus flac has error robustness while ape doesn't.

Biggers on industry support FLAC, like Samsung, I don't like to have compressed lossless format limited only on PC, but available in ANY place, and that flac can do it. Even somes receives support flac while ape doesn't.

As for compression, flac uses level 5 by default, but you can also uses better levels (more compression), it just consomes processing, on quad core is imperceptible, but not on those who are on notebook (like me), since I cannot use my desktop yet (getting ready for moving).

Besides, I wasn't talking about "quality" at all, but openness, support (by industry) and practice.

Didn't knew ape has a SDK, but you can see, it doesn't have the same support as FLAC has today.

About APE begin slow, check this one:

About that host problem.
I know a website that uses Free Email boxes as mirror. It uses Gmail, and you can use a program called Peer2Mail which allows you to download each pieces in one time, you don't have to do it manually.
That could be a good solution but well, everyone would need to switch to that method, which is probably impossible.

APE is garbage, it kills the battery of the few portable players that support it. It uses a lot of cpu. You may not notice it with your i7, but it's fucking slow.

Space saving is irrelevant, flac is one of the most cpu efficient, and open source. Due to being open source, there won't be any greedy faggots charging royalties for letting your hardware support it.

As for all those other lossless codecs, they're pointless. FLAC is the most widely accepted, and it's not really missing anything epic that would justify a new format.
wavpack is especially lame: no format should support lossy/lossless hybrid, it invites stupidity. I've seen people mark an uploaded album as lossless wv, but it was hybrid without the secondary file that makes it lossless ...

Space is pretty much irrelevant, SD chips and big hard drives are dirt cheap these days. It's not worth having your battery or cpu cycles wasted for a marginal space gain. Unless you live in some third world country, but if that were the case you might as well use mp3 and some $5 earbuds you found in the trash.

I still haven't figured out how to use up my 1 tb hard drive and I only listen to lossless and watch atleast 720p video.

Rockbox, which runs on just about any worthwhile pmp supports ape decoding (among flac, wavpack, and a few other's I'm probably forgetting), meaning ape can be played portably.

Second, error robustness? Do you have any idea what you are talking about? What is the realistic difference to the user whether or not the decoder can tell you that the stream is broken at such and such sample or that it just plain fails in decoding? Plan to ask someone to reupload Track ## samples 2690100 - 2734200 so you can manually splice the correct data into the file? Doesn't matter whether the decoder exits with -1 or tells you exactly what time the file is broken, you're still going to end up with a broken file either way.

I'm all for flac, but the arguments against ape are getting pretty poor.

About the error, is always nice to have a good CRC check inside the encode/decoder, is indispensable to avoid media errors (errors introduced from corrupted HDDs are still possible).

Actually, rockbox is known for killing batteries faster, nevermind the battery drain of ape...

There is no sanity in spending 10 times the cpu/battery, for a 3% space gain. APE is not revolutionary, for what you get it's not really worth it. The encode/decode time is one of the more inefficient (though certainly not the worst).

Also, APE probably charges a licensing fee/royalties on hardware support, FLAC will never due to being open source.
Royalties can be quite retarded, a dvd player used to be $9 in royalties... hence why the chinese made AVS. Better quality (ironic huh?), and much cheaper.

Bottom line is space is cheap, replacing used up lithium batteries is not. Every recharge session lowers its life span.

Also, rockbox voids your warranty, which is nonsense. Stay away from crappy players like ipod/zune. Anything decent will have good codec support out of the box and not require a program to access the device's memory.

YukariZX

So this became the ape vs. flac argument lol. which is a stupid argument. People will use what they want for their needs.

i look at it this way: why do we have "lossless"? I mean, why not just have a bunch of WAV files? same quality, right? Well, the reason we have "lossless" is obviously because nobody wants a bunch of WAVs on their computer. they're ridiculously big. So lossless compression is here to help us save hard drive space while still offering us the full quality, even if just for archival purposes.

For me, personally, it is for archival purposes really. I make MP3s out of everything anyway because I listen to stuff on an ipod, which doesn't support ape (OR flac for that matter). And i couldn't care less about YOUR opinion of what kind of media player I should buy. with both lossless files and MP3 files, I'm sorry, I don't want to buy 4 fucking hard drives to be able to fit everything. space is cheap? not when you need terabytes of it. on a TB hard drive (which is 934 real GB), you will save 37 GB of space using APE over FLAC. 37 GB. that's like... 92 CDs. I bet most of us here don't even own 92 CDs physically. that's a LOT. and don't question the numbers. the difference in FLAC and APE is 4%. 4% of 934 is 37.

if you want a fast encoder, use FLAC. fine. use whatever you want. i see plenty of reason to use flac and i'm an ape user myself. you won't see me talk about how FLAC sucks this way or that way. if you want to dis a lossless format, not ape. lol. APE has way too many good things about it to be dissed so easily. it just makes you look stuck up and uninformed. go ahead and say one format or another is your favorite, but dissing a good format is just lame.

Rockbox isn't something official is just a mod/hacker under GNU.
Wait, you're anti-rockbox, but arguing that FLAC is the best format because it is open source? (much like APE I might add)

About the error, is always nice to have a good CRC check inside the encode/decoder, is indispensable to avoid media errors (errors introduced from corrupted HDDs are still possible).
Fun fact: APE has error detection via cyclic redundancy checks, same as flac. Or are you thinking about how you can decode broken streams "through errors", leaving you with a no longer lossless file? (which APE does as well)

Actually, rockbox is known for killing batteries faster, nevermind the battery drain of ape...
When did I say that it didn't? Though I do strongly disagree with your claim, rockbox consistently increased playtimes by 125%-150% on all of my PMPs, but think whatever you wish.

There is no sanity in spending 10 times the cpu/battery, for a 3% space gain. APE is not revolutionary, for what you get it's not really worth it. The encode/decode time is one of the more inefficient (though certainly not the worst).
I'd agree if you'd not said that there's no sanity in spending 10 times the CPU cycles for a 3% space gain. There will always be people in situations differing from yours, and to assume that what works for you in your situation has to work for everyone else or they're insane is about as ignorant as bigots can get.

Also, APE probably charges a licensing fee/royalties on hardware support, FLAC will never due to being open source.
Educate yourself. (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/license.html)

Royalties can be quite retarded, a dvd player used to be $9 in royalties... hence why the chinese made AVS. Better quality (ironic huh?), and much cheaper.
That's all well and good, but both FLAC and APE are non-royalty formats (aside from forking APE), APE just doesn't scream at the top of it's lungs that it is free, open source, and unpatented to try and make itself look like something special to the already generally deluded lossless community.

Bottom line is space is cheap, replacing used up lithium batteries is not. Every recharge session lowers its life span.
With the rate that capacities are expanding, by the time your Li-ion battery's are going to fail you should have already upgraded your hardware.

Also, rockbox voids your warranty, which is nonsense. Stay away from crappy players like ipod/zune. Anything decent will have good codec support out of the box and not require a program to access the device's memory.
I don't see how this is a point against APE, but ok, I'll bite.
First, iPods and Zunes are worthwhile for modding, due to their popularity and availability (though not for the zune anymore).
Second, if you want a simplified and uncustomizable PMP, then yes, otherwise, you can use custom firmware.

At the risk of derailing this thread, I'm not going to continue arguing any further than this, as it's one of my biggest sources of lossless VGM, aside from UG and BG.

Have a nice day.

ipods aren't worthwhile for anything, you pay a fortune for inferior hardware. when you buy apple, you're buying their name, just like those Bose scammers. but I guess the same can be said about many other players, and none of them will post their hardware specs (snr, thd, seperation, individual part specs etc).
but I'd wager at least that ipods don't have the best sound quality compared to other PMP's, since they use cheap parts and slap on a huge price.

apple and MS should go die in a fire.

Also. If you want to go on about saving space no matter what, APE still blows. TAK saves about the same space as ape and uses much less cpu.

I bet most of us here don't even own 92 CDs physically. that's a LOT. and don't question the numbers. the difference in FLAC and APE is 4%. 4% of 934 is 37.

Exactly my words (just extended).

Again: This is not an argument war between opinions this is just to clarify the pros why people who love to use Monkey's Audio will stick to it and do not have the same advantages out of FLAC that the pro FLAC people have:

Reusing my 30 less MB per disc. Let's say a disc has between 300 and 600 MB (depends) so 450 in average. That's an additional free disc every 15 discs.

I do not listen to my game music on the go (I have a diverse music taste) and my other portable files are all MP3.

So all my game files are for listening at home only and there space is king.

I don't have a core i7 CPU "just" a first generation Quad Core (powerful nonetheless) and made a quick playback comparison between the formats, one small file (one track) and one big file (whole album):

First thing: No difference bwtween small and big files in the same format:
Second: Sure yes APE needs more CPU but not 10 times more or so, just 3 to 4 times.

CPU usage with FLAC: 0.4% CPU
CPU usage with APE: 1.1 to 1.9% CPU

If you want to scale that to a single core, take it times 4 so compare 1.6% to the range of 4.4 up to the spike of 7.6%
I know it's not accurate just quickly from the top of our head to have a basis.

The bottom line is: Both don't use much at home (so battery is not an issue).

In addition: I don't exactly know what people mean with error resistance etc. but with Monkey's AUdio you surely can check for errors either quickly via MD5 checksum or as a whole unpacked.

HDD space is an issue: I already have three physical HDDs in my tower and just recently kicked out a 500 GB for a 2 TB.

When I can save tens of GB for the same thing I take that.

But again I can see why the people with different preferences like FLAC over Monkey so in the end let's remain with the consent that everyone gets their preferences fulfilled easily.

It depends on how they are ripped, is the Super Mario RPG soundtrack you have, a decent rip? The same question goes for FFVII AC. A decent rip is at least where; a cue file and log is included, and the gaps are the detected.

You're still crying about shit that at the end of the day, doesn't really fucking matter.

HDD space is an issue: I already have three physical HDDs in my tower and just recently kicked out a 500 GB for a 2 TB.

Then use .TAK, it's almost as fast as FLAC and saves the same space as .APE.

The English language desperately needs a sound effect for eye-rolling.

and someone needs to develop a way to punch idiots like you through the internet.

I guess you're mistaking something.

The CD I ripped is this one:
http://vgmdb.net/album/2938

Disc 1: Akumajo Dracula X: Rondo of Blood Original Version
Disc 2: Tracks 01~23: Castlevania Bloodlines Original Version
Tracks 24~27: Akumajo Dracula X68000 Arrange Version

As you can see the platforms are: NEC PC-Engine, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), Sharp X68000.

The is NO Snes there, besides, the REAL Castlevania for me was from MSX (called as Vampire Killer) released in 1986:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_Killer

Maybe if you'd read everything I said including in recent post aswell as learned to read you'd know that I clearly said you had no SNES here.

PS.
I don't have cue and log files after all, the original ripper didn't include them. All that there is is md5 checksum, sfv and all the scans of covers and booklet.

Best thread, I think.

Only one thing I don't like. The hosting sites used. I never heard of those you people are using. How are you people downloading this?
I'm downloading something now which takes 1 hour, it's just 1 file, but what if there are 3 discs? 9 hours of downloading + waiting time... I see no more RapidShare also, I love it. Blegh, I ain't gonna buy 10 different premium accounts. Shame there are too many different ones being used.

Other than that, love this, keep it up and thanks. Not wanna whine or something because I should be happy those things are even uploaded.

Rapidshare is likely not being used due to it's harsh download limits on free users, which a majority of the leechers in this thread are.

For leeching, I recommend JDownloader, and for sites like filesmelt, just download them by hand instead of a download manager.

Don't know why it takes 1 hour for a file for you, I can grab 350MB files off of pretty much any site that has been uploaded to in this thread in <10 minutes. Maybe they don't have a node all that close to where you live.

Well, you said that this was the .hack// GAME MUSIC Perfect Collection at first.

So when I downloaded the package, I checked with the VGMdb website and got 2 results: one with 2 discs and the [LIMITED EDITION] one with 3 discs. This package had three discs, so I am assuming that is the [LIMITED EDITION] package.

http://vgmdb.net/album/11832

EDIT: Buuuutttt, Turns out you were right. The 3rd disc is only a collection of sound effects, totaling at 9 minutes. Look how stupid I am. No, really. :p

The only problem is the lack of proper information in the CUE file, but I guess a proper paste job can fix that....

Also, on that note...

Does anyone have the two official Thousand Arms soundtracks?

Wow, just started getting into the whole lossless scene, this thread pretty much has me covered on all VGM music! Just want to thank AcidBeast, Nisto, Snkhero, Sirusjr, wachedeuzo, DavidMadsen and barnaby64 for their efforts!

Also want to point out some broken links to help (all megaupload):
DQ8 Symphonic (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1332971&postcount=1068)
Orchestral Game Music Concert 2,3,5 (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1333453&postcount=1081)
Orchestral Game Music Concert 1 (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1331949&postcount=993)
Super Mario Galaxy Platinum (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1308411&postcount=314)
FF9 OST Plus (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1325244&postcount=732)

I'll just assume megaupload screwed over all the links in this thread.

Also, AcidBeast, in your upload of FF8 limited edition, the 20th track on the 3rd disc, Eyes on Me, is corrupt. Could you reup that track please? Thanks!

I'll try provide some mirrors for the ones I've downloaded so far.

I will be uploading an alternate rip of the DQ VIII Symphonic Suite soon... I promise! That along with most of the other Tokyo Philharmonic recordings.

RENAME the FLAC file to "SF3.flac" and put this with the cue file.
