I guess when I say lossless, I mean the same quality as heard when played natively from the 360 diskAren't you the same guy that called MP3 "lossless"? I guess you can use that word however you want, but you should be aware that most people don't use it that way, and that really you're just confusing matters. Calling a lossy file "lossless" is odd.

HAHA.

I forgot to save one. Would it still create a compatible .cue if I just put the CD in and do the make-cue thing?

Absolutely. Insert the CD/Fire up EAC and create a noncompliant Cue-Sheet (I suppose gaps were appended to previous track). EAC will detect gaps and create a proper cue-sheet without the need to re-rip.

EDIT: wait you said you ripped it with iTunes. Was that only for the M4A rip (don't know if iTunes is able to rip to FLAC)? The described process will only be appropriate of course if you ripped the FLAC version with proper gap handling (append to previous track) and preferrably with EAC. I don't know how iTunes handles gaps.

Zetto, thanks for being on the ball with that Suiko 5 re-up. I didn't even notice that it was down to begin with, or the re-up request for that matter. I take it you're still satisfied with the encode quality, eh? :)

Edit: From now on I'm probably gonna just use iTunes for my rips. Uploading two rips isn't good for my bandwith (most of my uploads are for my friends, who also use iTunes), and it gets the job done faster and with a lot less tinkering around. I did compare the EAC rip and the iTunes rip, and they both had the same bitrates.

Zetto
08-13-2010, 01:48 PM
Sorry, I hadn't looked at your rip. If I did I would have seen that you ripped it with EAC.

Thanks for taking the time to create a cue. I'm sorry to say this, but seems like there went something wrong. The INDEX 00 data (gap start) in the cue can't be correct. They contain data past the actual track lengths.

See this:

FILE "01 Track01.wav" WAVE
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "Track01"
PERFORMER "Unknown Artist"
ISRC JPE301001121
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
TITLE "Track02"
PERFORMER "Unknown Artist"
ISRC JPE301001122
INDEX 00 08:13:12

The red part is the entry for the start of the track 2 pre-gap. Since the gaps were appended to previous tracks, track1 should be (if the cue was right) more than 08:13:12 long. But it's only 04:47:35 long.

That's basically the case with all gaps in that cue, so something seriously went wrong during gap detection.

Maybe you should try another detection method.

Also, for your future rips, I encourage you to rip in secure mode with the correct offset correction for your drive: +102.

Morning to everybody:

My first time around here on this humongous thread and I can't thank enough all the uploaders (specially Nisto and Sirusjr). Thanks for all these great uploads.

Looking around, I saw the Final Fantasy XI Piano Collections around here, the one that YukariZX requested Nisto, way after he posted it. And when I checked out the post, it turned out he already removed it.

So I'll gladly appreciate the user (or YukariZX himself, if he has Nisto's copy, knowing that Nisto'll not upload more soundtracks here - Congrats man, you did an excellent work in this thread, and thank you for everything) who uploads this album again.

I have no owned albums to contribute here, so I'm really ashamed I can't help here. Sorry.

This is the album

Also if Sirusjr could reupload again Eternal Sonata, It'll be great. The links are Dead. This is the post http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1223875&postcount=1

Forgive me for asking, but what's the deal with all the Rockman Zero OSTs? I mean, how many games were released?

Lorem__Ipsum
08-16-2010, 06:26 AM
Rockman Zero (known as Mega Man Zero in English, of course) is a series of 4 games developed by Inti and published by Capcom (no, Capcom didn't really "make" that series of games). The "Remastered Tracks" albums are actually more like rearrange albums of the music in the series. There are currently 5 rearrange albums, as well as a soundtrack (http://vgmdb.net/album/2180) for games 1-3 in the series. I believe I own a physical copy of every single one of them at this point, and I don't remember being impressed with any of them.

Four games, four soundtracks. RTRZ Mythos is an arrange album only released recently, while the other four soundtracks are years old and are just now getting lossless encodes posted on the forums.

I have no idea what that means. As an aside, anyone using this on a portable player, be careful. My tags got messed up on my Cowon D2, and this may have done it.

Necrotek

CRC32 - one of checksum checks. It can be used to compare files. If two files have the same checksum, then they're likely have identical contents (in other words you have undamaged files). Use any hash calculator to check it, for example Advanced Hash Calculator (set Hash Type to CRC32 in Settings).

Checksum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checksum), from Wikipedia:

"A checksum or hash sum is a fixed-size datum computed from an arbitrary block of digital data for the purpose of detecting accidental errors that may have been introduced during its transmission or storage. The integrity of the data can be checked at any later time by recomputing the checksum and comparing it with the stored one. If the checksums do not match, the data was almost certainly altered (either intentionally or unintentionally)."

Get an app that compares CRC32 checksums, and scan your downloaded file with it. Compare the generated CRC32 with the one Necrotek posted. If yours differs, then the download was somehow corrupted, and you'll want to redownload. If they're the same, then the problem is with your password entry.

If you ever have a problem with a download first check and see if what you downloaded is identical in size to what the download provider (in this case hotfile) says it is. If it isn't, try downloading it again. Yet another option is to make sure the programs you are using to decompress said file are UP TO DATE. Seriously, stop using crap from years ago and complaining that it doesn't work.

Forgive me for asking, but what's the deal with all the Rockman Zero OSTs? I mean, how many games were released?

First of all, they are very hard to get... you can browse tora.to and they even don't have it.

Second... they are really good (compared to the gameboy advance music that was already good)

Third... the game is actually so damn nice and fun :)

If the file is the correct size but you're having problems then you need to stop using that cracked copy of WinZip from 2002.

You don't need one to search and fetch files.

I made a post in the lossless anime thread about the creation of cue by only having the log with gap info and how to determine which times display is/was used:

http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1525567&postcount=1221

May be of interest to some who follow only this thread, too.

Is that just another rehash of Curse of Darkness' music?

I was pretty disappointed with the first Pachislot soundtrack.

Should I check this one out?

I was wondering if you had Final Fantasy 1&2 (http://vgmdb.net/album/19) original soundtrack? It's the rearranged tracks that were on the Playstation "Origins" collection.

Very dark, moody music. Mostly electronic, but Jesper mixed in a lot of choral and orchestral music to add to the noir feel. One of my absolute favourites of all-time.

Any chance to get CUE file for this RIP?

I tried various programs, but none made a working one, even after manual editing. Sorry, bro, but I have no idea how to make one that works with FLAC. I tried for about 20 minutes and gave up. The one EAC made doesn't work, since the files are FLAC and have different filenames.

Just burn with foobar2000, IMGBurn or some other similar program.

Oh, I didn't notice this before.

The one EAC made doesn't work, since the files are FLAC and have different filenames.

I take it you don't know much about CUE sheets (which is fine, we all start somewhere). The CUE sheet you created with EAC is probably a perfectly fine CUE sheet, except that it's linking to .wav files instead of .flac files. This is really easily fixed with a program like CUE Tools, which has a built-in filename corrector specifically for CUE sheets. But even if you don't have CUE Tools, just open the CUE sheet in Notepad and change all the .wav extensions to .flac (Ctrl+H, .wav in the first line, .flac in the second line and hit Replace All, simple as that).

If you still have it, a lot of people would appreciate it if you posted that CUE sheet EAC created, and if you don't still have it, we'd appreciate it if you could create a new one. You don't even have to worry about fixing it if you really don't want to; most of us here are capable of doing that ourselves.

EDIT: Here's one I wrote up by myself from scratch a while ago, on the base of my EAC log. It didn't seem to work, so I'd appreciate it if you could check for mistakes. I just did a few modifications and it should be working now, but I don't have the means to check ATM, could you?

What do you mean, the CUE sheet "did not work"? You mean you couldn't burn the FLAC files back to a disc or something? If so, that has nothing to do with a CUE sheet. EAC just can't burn compressed files to disc. It can't handle FLAC, APE, or any other compressed format. It only accepts WAV. I'm sure the CUE sheet "works" just fine though (that is, a program like Foobar would be able to read it).

Well the only thing that isn't linked is something posted in the last two weeks. I'm not sure if the person who was updating me with links has stopped but unless I get confirmation of that I wont need additional help. Plus I don't want to remove links from the index that are dead because I want to let the users update the original posts if they wish.

Ok, if you need any help updating links, just ask me.

One more thing. I don't know if Nisto removed all of the soundtracks he posted, but in some I've checked he indeed removed them. It would be good to write in your first post the list of the removed soundtracks or the outdated links for the original uploaders to upload them, or if he/she doesn't want to upload, then, the post of another person uploading the very same album. It would be a great idea, avoiding in this case a lot of request posts. (I could help in this topic)

Talking about outdated links, could you please reupload Trusty Bell?, the hotfile links are all dead.

Thanks for everything

Please don't take me for a moron. I am not computer-illiterate, and have no idea where you got that impression from.

I tried using IMGburn and foobar2000 to burn an earlier version of the CUE sheet I posted, but they both threw up errors. Go try the one I posted. I don't have the means to test it right now.

Zetto
08-18-2010, 03:01 PM
I think the problem here is the noncompliant format. foobar can't read noncompliant cue-sheets and that may be the case for IMGburn too.

Burrrn (http://www.burrrn.net) for example can burn it. It supports noncompliant cuesheets.

photon_man62: how about you just send us (maybe through a pastebin) the original cue-sheet created be EAC? As Lorem__Ipsum already mentioned, I bet it is a perfectly valid cue-sheet.

LiquidAcid

and have no idea where you got that impression from.
Probably from the way you describe problems ("did not work"). That's a pretty good indicator that an idiot is front of the system, who think that the (sometimes very precise) error message the program gives you doesn't have any kind of significance ;)

Please don't take me for a moron. I am not computer-illiterate, and have no idea where you got that impression from.

Why don't you shut your defensive mouth for a moment and take a look at this: almost nobody that posts in this thread has problems with CUE sheets. And the very few that do have just needed to change a file extension or something. Now, let's take a look at some things you said.

Sorry, bro, but I have no idea how to make one that works with FLAC.

You've already started off wrong, because a CUE sheet doesn't "work with FLAC" specifically. It doesn't "work with anything" specifically. The CUE sheet doesn't really do anything other than point to a file (and contain some metadata about tracks). It's up to the program that reads the CUE sheet to "work with FLAC", so already you don't know what you're talking about, which is what led me to believe you're new at this (an assumption I felt I put very nicely).

The one EAC made doesn't work, since the files are FLAC and have different filenames.

Right here you're saying that the reason for the CUE sheet not working is that the filenames are now different. This is what led me to tell you to change them yourself. Then you come back and say "I changed the filenames of all the files after ripping, and even after fixing that AND the formats, the CUE sheet still did not work", so obviously you incorrectly identified the cause of the CUE sheet's failure and misinformed me about your process, which led me to guess at an incorrect solution. So you're also incapable of relaying information correctly.

I tried for about 20 minutes and gave up.

I have never had a CUE sheet related problem that took 20 minutes to fix. The biggest problem you can face is having an image CUE paired with a split-file rip, and even that takes about 5 minutes to fix. When I read that you tried for 20 minutes and came up empty-handed, forgive me if I think it looks like you don't know what you're doing. If you can't even get as far as using EAC to make a CUE sheet that is correspondent to your rip (which involves navigating two extremely simple menus), then there can only be so many possible reasons why; either you don't know what you're doing, or this rip isn't yours and you can't create the CUE sheet from EAC, so you're attempting to do it by hand and failing.

Now, rather than being sensitive and snapping at me, why don't you allow me to help you (which, if you haven't realized, is all I'd tried to do from the beginning). You edited your post after I made my previous one, so I missed the CUE sheet you pasted. I'll have to download your rip in order to try anything out, so give me some time to sit through all the Rapidshare waiting times and see if I can figure something out. Or, listen to Zetto and do as he says.

photon_man62
08-18-2010, 03:45 PM
First of all, I apologize for the rude tone. You're right, I really did strike the impression of a complete beginner to this, and if someone else would have written that, I would have probably responded in a similar fashion to yours.

I'm sorry if I incorrectly described my problems, I was exhausted and stayed up until 3 A.M. only to deliver this download.

By "did not work with FLAC" I meant that the CUE sheet (the CUE sheet I made EAC generate for me) was not correctly formatted for FLAC, i.e. had WAV files described in it.

By "the files are FLAC and have different filenames" I meant that EAC ripped them as Track01.flac etc. and labeled them as "Track01.wav" in the CUE sheet. They have different filenames because I personally renamed the tracks after ripping them to "01. Jesper Kyd - Apocalypse.flac" etc.

As you can see, it is impossible to burn a CD with a CUE sheet filled with incorrect data.

I modified the CUE file from EAC in Notepad++ to correspond with the new filenames AND formats, but it still did not want to burn.

After that, I just gave up, deleted the CUE sheet and went to sleep, as I was too tired to work anything out.

Just today, after a good night of sleep, I went to work and wrote up a completely new CUE sheet from scratch based on my EAC log, probably fixing all the problems.

I believe it was me incorrectly labeling lines like this:

FILE "07. Jesper Kyd - Amb Zone.flac" WAVE
with

FILE "07. Jesper Kyd - Amb Zone.flac" FLAC

I just pasted the correct version on the last page, right here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1526691&postcount=9600), but since I am still at work I have no way of checking if it works (if it's possible to burn a CD with it). Therefore I'd like to ask someone to please check if the CUE file I provided works.

There we go, that should set everything straight.

Zetto
08-18-2010, 03:52 PM
again might I suggest sending us the original cue sheet?

When you create a cue-sheet by hand you have to be very careful that you take the right values (i.e. you know whether the gaps in the log are displayed in the frame format or the hundredths of second format).

Lorem__Ipsum
08-18-2010, 03:52 PM
Zetto has a valid concern, but it looks like you've come up with a sensible solution anyhow. Maybe someone can test it out soon and let you know if it works. I'm going to download the rip (thanks for sharing, by the way) and go to bed. I'll test it out later today if no one has by then.

Thanks man. I even redownloaded it, thinking it was the hosting service screwing up, but it didn't work the second time either. Funny thing though, when I use WinRAR to view the properties of the file, I'm asked for the password. If I enter an incorrect password, I'm given false stats of course, like the archive is only 1% complete. But if I put in the correct password, WinRAR will show all the correct stats, even though I'm still given an error. So it's like that is the correct password, and something else is wrong. It's weird. Did you extract these successfully, or get a rip somewhere else?

It's weird. Did you extract these successfully, or get a rip somewhere else?

hmm, I think I got it from here. It's the same rip that's on what but I definitely haven't dled it from there so I think the one on what and AcidBeast's are the same. About extraction, hmm, can't remember if I had any problems with it.

How did you test it?

By ear and with Accuraterip. Both gave me good results.

Most people won't check the box that displays time in frames. I'd appreciate photon man telling us if he did or not, but I don't think he did. He seems to own the CD, and if he converted the LOG's pregap lengths as time rather than frames, then I think he knows he didn't use that setting, or he doesn't know about the setting at all, which gives a 99.9% chance that it's off, since the default is off.

I just ran through the FLAC files with CUEtools and it gave a CUE sheet that was EXACTLY the same as the one I wrote up earlier, so it shouldn't be off at all.

Please note, you know it Lorem__Ipsum, but for other people: Regardless of the gap data in the cue (INDEX 00), Accuraterip always reports the same.

Isn't the default on? I'm pretty sure that, with more recent versions of EAC, the default is frame display (checked). Verified this with an install of prebeta 5 on my sister's laptop.

So we have a high chance that the cue is correct. I'm pretty sure photon_man isn't aware of the setting at all. But I longed for the original cue to be 100% correct. At the moment we don't know for sure that the cue is correct.

I just ran through the FLAC files with CUEtools and it gave a CUE sheet that was EXACTLY the same as the one I wrote up earlier, so it shouldn't be off at all.

Please photon_man, let me explain. Of course, CUETools gave you the same cue but that is no indicator that the cue is correct. What CUETools does (I think) is take the gap data from the log as is (if no gap goes beyond 74) and calculate the INDEX00 from that. Basically the same as you did by hand since CUETools also doesn't know if the gaps in the log are displayed using frames or hundredths of seconds. The problem is, as I've described countless times already, that you (we) need to know how you ripped. With the aforementioned setting on or off. Did you read what I have linked? Did you understand what I was talking about? OK no problem.

Please do one of the following so that we can end this and be all happy:

1. Create a cue with EAC and compare it to yours. If the INDEX00 values are the same on all tracks: Congratulations, everything ok.

OR

2. Tell us if that () box was checked or not when you ripped.

You have to understand that this knowledge is vital to know that we have correct gap data in the cue you created. That setting we are talking about ("Display times using frames") creates two different values in the log dependent if either it's checked or unchecked. When you ripped the disc with this option unchecked you have to do additional math when you want create a cue by hand (Read my other post again if you want to know how this additional math is done). And this is what this is all about. An original cue by EAC automatically has the correct values (well if the gaps were detected properly, but that doesn't belong here). But for a manual creation you have to be aware of that option and the steps you have to do afterwards for each setting.

Sorry, I didn't see your post earlier. I'll check right now.

EDIT: That setting WAS checked when I was ripping the CD. INDEX 00 values do not match in one of the tracks, though. Here's the EAC cue (multiple WAV files with gaps, noncompliant):

Thank you very much.

OK that's it. The EAC cue is the right one. Seems like you just miscalculated that one gap. I should have seen this earlier to be honest but I still would have needed to know if you checked that setting or not.

So thanks for telling us.

EDIT: hopefully I was able to make clear/you were able to understand why it is important to know about how that option is set if one doesn't have the original cue.

EDIT2: Also, please don't let this little journey lower your willingness to contribute in the future. We kindly appreciate every contribution. Thanks for the perfect rip (perfect in the sense that the rip is accurate) of the Hitman score.

Seriously? It's unchecked on my system, and I don't remember ever checking that box. In fact I totally forgot it existed for a long time. I guess it's possible I disabled it when I configured EAC... what is it, over a year ago now? Anyway, thanks for verifying that, you two.

Please note, you know it Lorem__Ipsum, but for other people: Regardless of the gap data in the cue (INDEX 00), Accuraterip always reports the same.

Yeah, actually, I wasn't even thinking that when I checked the CUE sheet out. I do know it, but it totally didn't even register (I remember mentioning to someone else though that it was a really off day for me). Accuraterip's checksum calculations could really use some work.

Dizzy - If you are re-uploading your old posts please update the original links and just link to them. It makes the index updating easier and keeps the index from getting cluttered.
Others, a reminder - Please make sure you set your posts apart from the discussion if you are posting music by including an image and some bold colored larger font for the name of the album. Sometimes I am scanning quickly and I would hate to miss someone's post for the index because it didn't get posted in a way I recognize. The index is being updated soon, I know it has been a while since the last one.

I just popped in here and happened to see a question I can answer. ReplayGain's main purpose is for you to scan a selection of tracks and then it will add a tag that gives directions for players that support it like Winamp and foobar to adjust the volume on each track so they're all the same relative level (while keeping the dynamic range) and you don't get big uneven jumps between tracks. It also doesn't change the file itself, it's completely nondestructive. Don't be afraid of getting a soundtrack tagged with it, you can toggle the function on or off in the player, and even remove the tag yourself if you want to.

Just to clarify: ReplayGain actually makes everything quieter. You can then control how loud you want it to go up by adjusting the volume on your own systems. You can permanently apply ReplayGain to a file with some software, but in a CUE sheet it's completely harmless. It would be a shame to avoid a perfect rip if the only reason was because ReplayGain was added to the CUE sheet.

Replaygain is basically volume equalization: making all selected songs or albums the same volume, 89dB. The point is to make all tracks sound equally loud, eliminating clipping and volume fluctuations (going from a quiet to a suddenly overwhelmingly loud) between tracks or albums. IIRC, it's generally considered an audiophile feature due to general disdain for the loudness war. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war)

Since the replaygain tags don't actually modify FLAC files, you can use them while ripping or add them after the fact and still have a completely lossless rip. Just disable replaygain tag reading in your player if you don't want the feature.

Just to clarify: ReplayGain actually makes everything quieter.
Wrong, I can both increase and decrease the gain.

Woah, what.. ? I've only used ReplayGain once, and it boosted the volume. I used it on a Mission Impossible gamerip from N64 and noticed the boost right away.
Sure, since it adjusts the gain so track (or album) loudness is kept constant.

Does this mean every rip with replaygain is not an exact copy of the original ? Little bit confusing to me ><
Wrong, since Replaygain is originally just additional metadata that are added to the file. The software can decide to use the metadata to adjust volume level or it can simply ignore it. Of course some very 'smart' people have found a way to put RG into files that can't carry metadata (such as WAV), that of course only works if the RG is applied to the waveform itself (which in fact defeats the RG purpose).

I think so, for accurate rip replaygain must be off.
Again wrong, RG is metadata.

Replaygain is basically volume equalization
Again wrong, this is a common misconception with understanding RG. The technique is different from what is usualy called peak normalization and is in fact more complex.

IIRC, it's generally considered an audiophile feature due to general disdain for the loudness war. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war)

How could you say that and then link to that article in the same line? Loudness war actually has little to do with how "loud" music actually is - that is, how high the volume is. It has to do with the way it was mastered. Loudness war refers to using dynamic range compression and mastering with a high perceived loudness (as well as a high actual loudness). ReplayGain can't change the compression or mastering no matter how much it changes the volume; it's only trying to make one song have as much "volume" as another. But between rock pieces and classical pieces, rock pieces will still sound louder even when both are used with ReplayGain because the classical pieces will still retain a full dynamic range.

Wow, technical discussion in this thread goes downhill fast every time it's tried.

Again wrong, this is a common misconception with understanding RG. The technique is different from what is usualy called peak normalization and is in fact more complex.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Unsure why you're under the impression that I'm claiming Replaygain does the same thing as peak normalization. PN does not ensure equal loudness. RG affects volume equally, as explained on Hydrogenaudio's Replaygain wiki. They contrast peak normalization and Replaygain by pointing out that peak normalization does not ensure equal volume.

How could you say that and then link to that article in the same line? Loudness war actually has little to do with how "loud" music actually is - that is, how high the volume is. It has to do with the way it was mastered.

The purpose of linking to the Wikipedia loudness war entry was for the convenience of those who've never heard of it before, as we've already had persons in this thread who've never heard of checksums or CRC32. And the purpose of tinkering with the perceived loudness via Replaygain is to counter the studio mastering of CDs, as stated on the Replaygain proposal page (http://replaygain.hydrogenaudio.org/): "Whilst different musical moods require that some tracks should sound louder than others, the loudness of a given CD has more to do with the year of issue or the whim of the producer than the intended emotional effect."

That's a pretty clear reference to me.

Zetto

To understand Replaygain, really just read the sites Liquid linked to.

I Replay-Gain-Scan (as albums) everything I add to my library. That way I won't notice horrible loudness changes from album to album but still it keeps the dynamic loudness within an album itself.

SO this:

Replaygain is basically volume equalization

is not totally wrong. Read about the difference of "Track Gain" vs "Album Gain".

Here (http://www.acc.umu.se/~zao/foobar2000/)'s a nice component for foobar2000 that I use additionally: Replaygain override (foo_rg_trn)

This component provides a way to pick a replaygain mode between Album, Track and No replaygain for the different play orders. For example, when playing random tracks, track gain is suitable, while when playing albums back to back, album gain probably is better. Thank you to TrN for the idea.

I was/am because you directly used the term normalization to describe what ReplayGain does. And that's confusing since all your usual normalization feature that you can find in your favorite audio editor/toolchain just don't do what RG does instead (namely taking the perceived loudness into consideration).
Maybe you meant the right thing (and I apologize if I sounded rude), but IMO your choice of words here wasn't very clever.

You mean the part where the metadata is created or the part where it's interpreted? The RG standard specifies a reference level of 89dB and (which is also very important) justifies this choice - read my links if you want to find out more.

Oh, I see now. You said "I can both increase and decrease the gain" as if it were something you were doing yourself, manually. But it's just decreasing the volume of louder tracks and increasing the volume of (much) quieter tracks. Yeah, with the way things are mastered nowadays, I doubt I'm going to see the volume of many tracks increasing. Nice piece of info, won't misspeak on that again.

Sorry to intrude, but I felt it'd be good to say this once and for all. If anyone is still on the fence about ReplayGain because of the back and forth, seriously, I promise you it does not change the file any more than changing a title or artist tag does. ReplayGain adds a tag that tells the player to automatically adjust its volume to the level the tag specifies when you play it, if you have a player that supports the feature and you have the feature enabled. Otherwise it plays back just the same as anything else, and if you remove the tag, which you can do, you'll have the exact same file as before.

It was created by an audiophile for audiophiles and with the explicit intention for it to adjust volume without altering the audio data content of the file; any change to that being seen as a loss of quality or purity or integrity. It's for people to be able to listen to music from many different sources and not have to leap for the volume control suddenly when something that was mastered louder comes on. It retains all the dynamic range though, because that's important to the maker and the target audience (and should be for everybody). These are people who are just as concerned about their music as you, many having the same exacting standards as any of the most zealous of you here in this thread. And you don't even have to use it if and when you don't want to.

While this is true most of the time, it's still possible to store RVA (relative volume adjustment) information inside a file without relying on the tag metadata. An example is MP3 where the LAME header stores such info. It's still additional metadata but not an additional tag, since the LAME header is not related in any way to ID3.

EDIT: To avoid confusion. Sometimes the LAME header is also called LAME tag. However it's vastly different from the ID3 tag. The LAME header contains metadata created by the encoder, which are not intended to be changed by the user.

That wont counts since that is made by the means of lossing quality, in this way I could create the ultimate audio compression, with "just" 99% of audio loss, would you call it better than mp3 then?

Links have expired, I'd like to request a re-up. Though actually, I'm only interested in Holic from Disc 1, which seems like it'd be easier to upload, unless you've got it ripped as a single .flac anyway.

Also, anybody happen to have Musashi: Samurai Legend in lossless?

Oh well anyway, enough of that. anyone who wants LOADS of lossless vgm... and i mean LOADS... should go to HDDX (http://hddx.haldrie.com/). it's invite only but you can also try and convince the staff to let you join (aka send you an invite themselves). they have a project currently underway that literally has like 2000 lossless soundtracks... it's pretty ridiculous. But we need more people downloading it and seeding it, it's pretty painfully slow going right now. and we need more contributors too ;) pretty much nobody contributes albums missing from the project except like one guy, Lorem__Ipsum lmao. and a couple others shared like 2 albums in the past.

come on guys JOIN

Only very few contributions are made via torrents. I, personally, use another way, and i probably uploaded more than you think for the project. And i'm not the only one :)

When I read that, I just hear someone who not only doesn't know how torrents work, but is very impatient. Sure, if you immediately jump in on a 45 GB torrent with one seed, expect to be sitting there a while waiting to download what you want. But set 'A', which is 58 GB, has 8 seeds at the moment, so I'd imagine that if you even connect to 4 of them you'll be downloading at a pretty nice speed. And anyway, are you in some kind of hurry? It's not like the internet is going to disappear before you can finish the torrent. If you really wanted lossless VGM and you were unable to find it here or anywhere else, who cares if you have to wait a while downloading it as long as you get it in the end? I've waited 5 months to finish a single album. No, it's not an exaggeration, and no, I didn't mind at all, because it didn't matter at all. The program sits there, uses some ridiculously low amount of memory even for a system with 1 GB of RAM, and all you have to do is check it now and then. It's not like it requires effort or anything.

HDDX's 'B' torrent, which is 46 GB, now has 11 seeds in only 8 days after it started. Not really that long at all for 46 GB of lossless VGM.

Hey, if you want to add more bounty, thanks, though I'm quite happy with filling the requests as they are. Actually, I should get to re-ripping that tomorrow. Uploading anything to What.cd is just such a pain in the ass...

Wouldn't you hate to see your own rips uploaded by a completely random person onto a public (not private such as What.cd, that is) tracker?Um, no. That's kind of the reason for sharing in the first place. Not nerd cred or a respectable ratio or any of that crap, but giving people music so they can enjoy it. Is that so weird?

Buy a physical VGM soundtrack first, then comment on how it's like.I recently ripped and uploaded all of my game OST CDs that weren't already available at UG. If someone else wants to upload them to TPB or whatever that's fine with me.

I don't get it. If you're so protective of your (often illegally downloaded) files, why did you ever upload anything at all? What do you get out of this if you don't enjoy sharing things with others?

I don't get it. If you're so protective of your (often illegally downloaded) files, why did you ever upload anything at all? What do you get out of this if you don't enjoy sharing things with others?

You obviously don't have any private tracker accounts.

Does anyone have a what.cd or hddx invitation to spare? (and is willing to PM me)

I have one, but I'd have to know that the recipient is dependable, and is worth giving the invite to. I suppose anyone that's interested can do what I did at HDDX and PM me how they can contribute to the site, as well as show me some private tracker stats if applicable.

EDIT: I'll add that for anyone wanting to get into the VGM project there, it's extremely easy to keep a good ratio just by jumping in the torrents when they begin and seeding what you download at a good speed. Just dedicate some bandwidth to it and it's easy to stay above a 1.000 ratio. Also, If you contribute an album they're missing in lossless, it's worth 5 GB bounty. And they're really not elitists over there, and won't ban you outright for a poor ratio.

alc123

You obviously don't have any private tracker accounts. What does that have to do with anything?

Leon Scott Kennedy
08-26-2010, 10:28 PM
What does that have to do with anything?
Imagine you're in one of those private trackers. As far as I've seen, you keep/maintain access to the place by sharing stuff or help seeding.. Now, imagine you've ripped an album that's not been shared yet... (You do that to get... I don't know how to call it, exactly... Extra download bandwidth for your account).... You've ripped this album... And you do the mistake to share it on some place, first... Later you see a random guy uploading your rip to that private tracker and get the ratio which you - rightly (no, not entirely right) - deserve. It does piss most people off.

For the way I see it (and trust me, I guess I know how private trackers works since I shared on such places scans of my VG Guidebooks in the past, only to see them spread at Mech/Paradox, thus granting Premium accounts to others) it's still a kind of elitist crap, regardless of what users say about it... One should not get too much Prestige/Ratio off those things.... I'd understand if the arrangers at OverClocked ReMix did something like this, but it would defeat the community purpose(s). I personally don't like the idea of getting goodies off things I did not create, but that's just me. I like(d) to share, if someone wants to take credit/ratio, fine by me, it's not like I own any kind of copyright over the stuff.

Lorem__Ipsum
08-26-2010, 10:57 PM
Yeah, basically, Leon. If you are a member of private tracker sites, you want to be a bit selective about what you share based on what you know is or isn't uploaded at said trackers. This is because you want to be sure you're the first to upload the music you have there. But that isn't about prestige; it's about maintaining a good ratio so that you can also download things at the tracker as well. Those places have a lot of good stuff to grab, but you can't just go around grabbing it all and not share anything back. You have to maintain a good ratio.

The whole white knight "we should all giving people music so they can enjoy it" deal makes you look really good, and I'm all for that too since I'm here at FFShrine (I don't post albums here only if someone posts one in return; I've posted all my shares here free of charge), but in reality, when you find something at a private tracker site that you haven't found anywhere else, it isn't free of charge (like most things outside our little internet music sharing world). You have to give something back in order to get it. And the more people that spread the rips you were nice enough to share with others on private tracker sites, the less opportunity you have to get something back at those same sites, even though you were the one that ripped and/or shared those CDs and should have the first chance.

Oh, and this isn't to say I regret sharing the Yoshi's Island rip where I did before uploading it to What.cd, since if I'd really wanted to claim that bounty badly, I would have done it before sharing it anywhere at all. I'm just answering the question of why people are so "protective" of their rips. Sometimes requests and bounties come up on private tracker sites after the fact, and it would be a shame for someone else to claim the bounty for your rip when you were nice enough to share it.

alc123
08-26-2010, 11:21 PM
I'm active on several private trackers. It's really not hard to maintain an acceptable ratio. We can debate the semantics of sharing vs. trading, but it's not a particularly stimulating conversation and that wasn't what I was getting at anyway. I was asking why Nisto cared if someone uploaded an OST to a public tracker; there's no answer that isn't petty.

TH.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/file/6fj0e165k0bde2u/TH.rar)

Thankyou very much. And here I was thinking it'd take a week to get a reply =P

It's not so much that I don't want to share my soundtracks as much as that I dont want to have to reupload every time it goes down. Once I'm done uploading a rip or w/e Ikeep what I wanted from it and delete the rest. Obviously, this means I can't re-up. That and most people aren't interested in what I do have (which is very little, you prob have to purposely collect ost's to actually get the popular stuff that (lots of) people want badly)

And what little I do have would never get me into a private tracker place so it's pretty much pointless for someone like me to keep the upload exclusive =/

Well, if you want to go the long way or handle it "manually"...
First use Monkey's Audio (http://anonym.to/?http://www.monkeysaudio.com/) to decompress the file back to Wave,
than use FLAC (http://anonym.to/?http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html) to encode it to, well, FLAC.

You could also use Foobar (http://anonym.to/?http://www.foobar2000.org/) for this process (APE->FLAC).

Another comfortable possiblity would be dbpoweramp, but it is not free of charge.

After that, change the extension in the cue files to point to the .flac file (instead of .ape),
and split it to sepperated tracks.

If you still have questions about it, I'm sure your questions was already answered
in a forum like hydrogenaudio (http://anonym.to/?http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showforum=69).
(I think that didn't turend out like an how-to...)

_________________________________________________
These CDs are not only Music CDs, but also have "Drama" Tracks on it.
Basically the original Voice Actors "playing" their roles like in a radio Drama.
But you might want to know, that the spoken Language is in Japanese.

Lunatic Parade Vol. 1+2 contains audio tracks, that weren't present in the OST,
and alternate with the Drama tracks.
Lunar Eternal Blue Prelude contains mostly Drama tracks, but Track 6 (Althena's Song)
features the full length Song of it's predecessor.
The Premium (Mini) CD was included with the japanese game of Lunar Eternal Blue,
starring a short Drama of Lemina and Lucia (wrongly labeled as Ruby and Lucia - yeah,
I though myself that's Ruby at the beginning... maybe the same voice actor - you
may change the tag, if it bothers you).

Track 25 didn't rip accurately, probably due to scratching. There are a few popping sounds at the end of some tracks, these are on the cd too, so i assume it's a disc defect.

No idea how that cue sheet is supposed to work, but i followed the EAC tutorial thingy, so i guess others will know what to do with it. I created a working one (for me anyway) using foobar , if anyone wants that.

If anyone thinks this thread needs more older scores then that person should post some or do requests. I personally have zero interest in anything before PS1 due to the horrible synthesizers used on NES and SNES with the exclusion of Chrono Trigger. Most anything PRE-PS1 would not benefit much from lossless anyway due to the low fidelity of the sound to start with. However, I am sure some users will appreciate if you post classics from that era.

The one here are tracks from the PSX disc ripped by me. All other albums are not mine, so credits for the effort goes to their respective owners.

Huge thanks Anonanon. I've two lossless codifications of WipEout - The Music, that shows different masterings, so I think one is the Sony release and the other one may be the Columbia reprint. I needed your re-upload because one of the two I've is incomplete, and the thing is there's no way to know which one is the first print and which one the reprint from my codifications. So thanks for the re-upload, I will let you know which one of the two I've, is equal to the one you've uploaded, and I hope that the one you've uploaded is equal to the incomplete I've, to remove the incomplete and put the full codification finally : )

Note: Wip3out doesn't have an official album except for a promo CD that contains a continous mix by DJ Sasha, which is unfortunately nowhere to be found on the internet.
As a gift for your re-uploads, I can tell you that NO, there is no ONE promo, there are TWO promos. And that I've both of them. Take a look:

ARC/11/10/99 | wip3out - The Music - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/17270)
ARC/11B/10/99 | wip3out - The Music - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/7718)

If you look carefully, on both releases the lastest revision is by Aero-R, myself. Why?, because I know the story behind those discs and I took a listen to both of them, so I wanted to clear a little bit the situation with that info. The problem? the problem is that unfortunately, the most rare of them (the "B", the 2nd presing) is only on lossy format (.mp3), so it can't be uploaded to this thread. About the 1st pressing, I've it on lossless ! (.flac, 221 MBs) so if you give me a little bit of time (my DSL is slow) you'll have the proper gift to thank you your re-uploads ;].

Things to do! WipEout Pulse, Rollcage
If you've the Pulse one in lossless I'll download it too although I've never played it, but since HD uses the soundtrack of Pulse and Pure, it'll be usefull to have it.

WipEout is the future. The future is now : )

EDIT: Exactly !, the codification you shared about WipEout - The Music is from the same CD that I told you I've another one (but incomplete). As I told you this CD seems to have a better mastering or so, than the other one, because I've a lossless codification of a second CD with worse mastering. Frequency analysis of both ones:

First, the analysis of the CD you shared (and also of the CD I'd too, although incomplete, with great mastering):

Second, the analysis of other CD, maybe from some kind of bootleg or reprint? don't know, but I started to think it may be from the Columbia reprint:

I'll keep both of them for the collection anyway. Huge thanks for your re-upload mate. The second is like less rich or something..
