To the best of my knowledge this was only ever released as a digital download so no lossless version exists unless it's like some smuggled out by an insider type thing (hey it happens) but I've never seen this in lossless anywhere so I wouldn't hold my breath. Tis a shame because I have the PS3 version of the game and LOVE the music myself.
You're right, also see here:
http://vgmdb.net/album/4149
That's the only entry for Elder Scrolls IV. Sadly enough PS3 games aren't accessible yet, otherwise we might eventually enjoy many lossless soundtracks directly from the game. I guess the Xbox 360 version currently has the best quality (after PS3).

Actually... sometimes "Digital-Only" OSTs get a Lossless release.
Black Original Soundtrack Recording (
http://vgmdb.net/album/5913) got one... as well as some Harry Potter Videogame Soundtracks, as far as I know.
I still hadn't luck finding a true lossless Oblivion's OST for sale.

I have OBLIVION in 192 CBR MP3 which, as I recall, I got from the PIRATEBAY.ORG bit torrent website.
Send me a PM if you are interested as it doesn't belong in this thread.
Thanks, but I have it in MP3 already ;) I usally covert my lossless music to OGG (to my iRiver), so lossless version allow me to create truly OGG files.

Thanks for uploading the FFXII FLAC, however the disc one RAR file seems to be messed up. I can unarchive the .CUE file, but not the .FLAC file. Even though the other discs worked (even with the password 'smile').
Is there any known way to fix this?

If you can, please use EAC whenever possible. Look up stuff on vgmdb.net for cover scans and information for tracking purposes. I don't need logs, but other people might want them especially if you're going to use EAC. If you want, you can also scan covers/booklets (I'd like to see any if you can, but you don't have to). FLAC preferred, APE is fine too - but please no other format besides that.
Thank you! I noticed some requests earlier in this thread. I'll see if I have a rip downloaded, but there's no guaranty they're proper rips unless I have logs.

Well, I can open your other 7z files. I'm just getting problems with these 3 for some reason =/
What problems? Did you try different tools?
Do you have 7zip installed? Otherwise I don't think you'll be able to extract those.
Several compression tools can extract the 7zip format too.
Next I have a file .cue that I uncompress with XLD (16 bits, 44 000 Hz....) to create wav files...but the result is 34 tracks of noise but not music. Could someone tell me where i'm wrong ?
Check XLDs website. Is the tak format supported? No.

THE ~SHENMUE~ COLLECTION
EAC | FLAC | COVERS | TAGGED
SHENMUE ~Orchestra Version~

SEGA developed a full soundtrack before ever starting the game.
THIS is the very music the game was built from, and you'll see why.
A mix of Western composition style with Eastern instruments,
Toshiyuki Watanabe and his crew have crafted one of the most beautiful,
moving orchestral soundtracks to grace the gaming medium.
Performed by the Kanagawa Symphony Orchestra

SHENMUE Chapter 1: Yokosuka OST (2 discs)
Put together by top-tier SEGA composers as well as the venerable, Yuzo Koshiro, the official soundtrack to chapter one takes the ideas set forth by the Orchestra Version and builds character themes, settings and emotional ques from a similar style. A subtle, sweet mix of piano and string on top of common Eastern instruments, Shenmue has it's own, almost zen-like quality to its sound, and yet it manages to be consistently catchy. There's nothing else quite like it. SEGA included some arranged versions of some tunes as well.
Sample (Memories of Distant Days):

Sample (Sadness and Hope):

SHENMUE JukeBox
Shenmue wasn't restricted to soft orchestrated motifs, in the game you could collect audio cassette tapes and visit the jukeboxes at the bars to listen to more modern, edgy sounding music. These are arguably the most important selctions from that lot. From jazz to hip hop, you might notice a dated feel to the sound as the game took place in 1986' Japan. Good stuff nonetheless.

Unfortunately they ARE NOT lossless. There were NO official soundtracks released for Shenmue 2 as the game came out around the time SEGA lost the "console wars".
VERY GOOD music yet again, tho, especially the "Guilin" part.
(Note: there's a zip at the top of each section so you don't have to d/l all the tracks listed one by one.)

You are probably referring to what happens when several people upload the "correct" track names to the database, when they might not be. This can be due to everything from mistranslation (words not carrying the same meaning in other languages or too many words carrying the same meaning and people just picking one from the list), to sloppy bootleg publishers to people even making them up.
Since lots of different people can upload to the database, you unfortunately get lots of different version of the track names, even several different prints of the CD itself.
For instance, the YS III song, "The Boy With Wings" has been listed as "The Boy who Had Wings", "The Boy who Could Fly," "That Boy can Fly," and even "Adol's Theme." Aside of the last one, they basically mean the same thing, so you can't really call it a mistranslation, but it's true the makers intended one true name of course.
Can't really be helped, but you kinda just have to pick one and roll with it and maybe have to fix the names yourself later.
No one can say those wikipedia ones are right either, since ppl can edit that all the time. However, professional soundtrack review sites and of course the company sites themselves should have the correct names.

Since I've uploaded the FFVII OST... I think I owe you an answer:
I've originally downloaded it from a torrent..... I've retagged "Let the Battles Begin!" and "Fight On!" I suppose (The Boss Fight tune) with "Those Who Fight" and "Those Who Fight Further" for a stupid reason actually: I tought they were the official tracks' names..... Most sites I visited had them listed like that, I apologize if this has caused some confusion. Anyway, I like the literal english translation better.. if you want the official names you can retag it.... It's pretty easy thanks to "Let's Tag!" and "MP3Tag".

I don't get why you guys care so much about the english track names considering most of them are translated from Japanese anyway so its never 100% perfect. Eternal Darkness and Fable bonus/"missing" tracks
(lossless game rips)
FLAC | GAME RIP
Temple of Avo (Harp edition)
(Fable, XBOX)
This version of the song was suspiciously missing from the official ost; which makes no sense since it's the version you'll hear more throughout the game, and it also sounds better (IMO). A tranquil harp breaks the silence with an eerie but beautiful melody that builds up but never threatens. This song played at the Temple of Avo as well as the secret areas, and is my favorite song in the game.
(Ripped from the XBOX game, compared against an MP3 of the song to verify lossless)

OPTIONS MENU (Eternal Darkness, Gamecube)
This is the song that plays on the main game menu, and it's a chilling, subtle mix of choir, bass, and intentional vinyl pops. It was missing from the official album. I think it goes good at the end of the cd.
I also included the excellent Edgar Allan Poe snippet that Pious narrates when the game is turned on. And that goes great at the beginning of the disc.
(ripped from the Gamecube game, spectrum checked for lossless, added fade-in)

Eternal Darkness is an excellent game. It was so underrated by the general population, but I think ppl are coming around to how unique it was.
If it wasn't for the cool insanity effects and the very well-told story that spans a millenium, you still have the fact that there's three different versions of the game to play through, each changing what alliance your spells derive from and changing the very types of creatures you'll fight each time.
Then there's the overall feeling of impending, hopeless dread that sinks in with every new character introduced, the creepy settings and music and unworldly creatures.
It's by far one of the best games for Gamecube, and it's one of the most ambitious entries into the survival horror genre.
It demands a sequel. Too bad Silicon knights focused on Too Human instead :\

I forgot to ask in my last post... does anybody have Guilty Gear Heavy Rock Tracks?
I know a version was uploaded around here in another thread, but it's no good as the archive is corrupt so I'm not looking for that one.
Thanks.
I didn't have a problem with extracting the one I've got from here:

Strange.... WinRAR 3.80 hadn't a problem dealing with it.
Anyway... there's no need for me to reupload. It's a painful process, but you can download it track-by-track here:

The Castlevania "Dracula Perfect Selection" collection
EAC | FLAC | CUE | LOG
(Dracula New Classic includes FLAC only)
~ Dracula Battle Perfect Selection ~
(1994)
A kick-ass hard-rock arrange of some of Castlevania's most titular, popular tunes. From Castelvania NES all the way up to the SEGA Genesis' Bloodlines -- even a few Gameboy remixes-- chiptunes have been totally reimagined in full blazing thrash riffs and unrelenting percussion and bass. And in the slower ballads, the guitars just sing out to you. A high octane, never dull journey through vampire country's most famous soundscape.
Arranged by Naoto Shibata and his team

~ Dracula Battle Perfect Selection II ~
(1995)
One wasn't enough, fans wanted more, and Konami delivered yet again. DBPS2 focuses more on the 16-bit era of Castlevania music, but maintains the same ballistic energy as the first throughout, as well as some of the most brilliant opening hooks I've yet heard in a VG arrange album. A second helping of Castlevania III's "Beginning" is also included. There's even a beautiful piano piece in the mix.
Arranged by Naoto Shibata and his team
TRACK LISTING:
1 Beginning --------------------------- Dracula X: Rondo of Blood
2 Theme of Simon (

~ Dracula Perfect Selection ~
(1991)
Ever wanted to know what a converstaion between Simon belmont and Dracula would sound like in music form, literally? Well, too bad, you get it here. The infamouns "Castelvania Rap" album, DPS features several remixed Castlevania tunes -- mostly from CV III: Dracula's Curse -- and three of them just so happen to have American '90s rap vocals over them. Phrases such as "I'm gonna get you!" and "Aww yeah" are common here. Thankfully it's only three songs, the other seven are very decent remixes incorporating synth and strings. If you can get over the wholly cheesy lyrics, add this otherwise tarnished gem to your collection.
Arranged by Naoto Shibata, vocals by Joey McCoy and Ornell Jones

Perfect Selection Dracula ~ New Classic ~
(1992)
One of the more rare VGM albums out there, this little compilation of Castlevania arrangements from games 1-4 features a strictly new-orchestral style and instrumentation, incorporating synths as well. A very soothing, dream-like Castlevania experience. (And yes, Monster Dance is intentionally cut short by Konami)
Arranged by Jun Erie

I didn't rip Dracula New Classic myself, got it from someone at the Castlevania Corner a year ago, he was nice enough to rip the tracks for me, but as such there is no cue since I never requested one.
Don't worry though I checked all those cds in both spectrum and frequency views and they all move past 20khz. They're lossless alright. They're rolled off at about 21khz to give a darker sound, but there are no "dead" areas.
I ripped the first three albums in the list just last night BTW, and those do contain cues and logs.

Always glad to share great music :)
As mentioned before, Skies of Arcadia soundtrack up soon, but I warn you in advance two of the tracks skip (once per track, just slightly, but it's noticeable) :\ so if someone has a better rip of this soundtrack right now, let us know, and put it up.
Again this is another one I didn't rip personally.
I actually have another rip, massive single file, of the soundtrack, but that one never finished downloading entirely (in Utorrent their were like 99 leechers and no seeders and I was stuck at 99%), from which I could possibly rip those tracks from, but it could get messy for sure.
So far I have not had a perfect rip of this game's music from anyone :(

I purchased these a few years ago, here they are in FLAC. Here is some info on the series if you are not familiar with it -
Merregnon is a soundtrack CD project for which renowned composers from the game industry contribute brand-new titles. By writing orchestral music the artists tell a story taking place in a newly created fantasy-universe.
Stars like Chris Huelsbeck (Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2), Yuzo Koshiro (Shenmue) and Fabian Del Priore (Cultures 2) already speak for themselves.
They, and a number of many more music veterans, have signed on to work on this album trilogy, whose atmosphere will additionally be nourished with impressions and pictures from the richly decorated booklets.
01 - Prologue (Fabian Del Priore)
02 - Welcome to Merregnon (Jonne Valtonen)
03 - Village in the Mountains (Jogeir Liljedahl)
04 - Story of Humans and Dragons (Allister Brimble)
05 - Burning Lascest (Olof Gustafsson)
06 - Farganda's Appearance (Rudolf Stember)
07 - Go for Rescue (Markus Holler)
08 - Secrecy of Deep Affection (Gustaf Grefberg)
09 - Attack of the Surgids (Jason Chong)
10 - Black Cult's Gathering (Jogeir Liljedahl)
11 - Encounter with the Dragon (Fabian Del Priore)
12 - King Arames' Castle (Gustaf Grefberg)
13 - Meeting for the Hunt (Olof Gustafsson)

Dude no offense but if you post music you are going to have to get used to the small number of replies you get per actual downloads. It frustrates me as well but that is the way of the boards. They require you to register to see links and many people register and then hide in the shadows grabbing whatever they can.
With regards to 10 downloads, you should make a rapidshare collector's account if you are going to bother with them. It is free and makes your links last a lot longer. I know for sure I wouldn't waste my bandwith if my links were only good for 10 downloads. I've had things get 600 hits through my collector's account.

Would anyone happen to have any more of the Sonic soundtracks, specifically the vocal soundtracks? I'm kinda new around here, and it seems like the other threads for lossless Sonic music are horribly out of date. I did manage to find True Blue on site, but I don't know how to check if it's real lossless on a Mac...
While I'm at it, if anyone has the lossless version of this (
http://grandbell.net/index.php/feorchestramusic) album, I've been looking for it. It says Fire Emblem Orchestra, but there's a chance it's from the anime adaptation - the files say "KSS" which turned up the OVA in a Google search.

It most certainly is. Cuts off at 16khz, even worse at other times (probably VBR). Thanks for letting me know.
I just don't understand the people who think FLACing an MP3 will ever do any good. It's a horrible idea because the next person to get it could assume it's lossless and then recompress it back to an even worse MP3. And then a complete cycle of evil is born.
And to be honest, you're better off just downloading the PSF file, as opposed to this lossy crap.
Well, at least I have the PSF file. I'll report this false lossless album to the mods there.

Read the guide
Thread 62633 on the first post of the thread.
I've been using that as my guide all night. But I'm completely new to spectral analysis and don't feel 100% sure about making a call. For example, I'm looking at the "True Blue" Sonic soundtrack from that site, and it looks pretty good, but the guide shows a FLAC file that hits around 21kHz, whereas the 320 CBR underneath it says 320 cuts off under 22kHz. That's confusing to me.
Granted, the True Blue rip resembles the FLAC example more than the 320 CBR example, but I don't think I can say for sure after having only a few hours experience with this.
BTW, I don't want to flood this topic with questions on how to check lossless files, so if anyone doesn't mind questions over PM, let me know.

@PrinceMarth:
Its rare that 320k MP3s go over 20khz. It depends on the encoder used, and LAME is the most robust and most popular. That never goes above 20khz.
As for blockiness, you are looking for solid black blocks (or gaps) in the signal. Heres a side by side comparison for you from the same file. Its from two seconds in time. The first is FLAC, the second is a 320k MP3 (encoding using LAME).
Notice the black gaps in the MP3 signal? Thats due to the MP3 encoding, i.e. lossy encoding.
On a side note, everyone seems to think 320k is the best, but I get better results encoding with LAME on Extreme VBR setting. In fact, LAME are focussing their efforts on making better sound quality at VBR a priority in future versions of their encoder.

Maybe but that doesnt mean anyone here isnt going to have them necessarily :)
Yeah I just wonder if the Nintendo Club one you're talking about is any different than the Nintendo Power one I have. I've seen NP cut the Zelda: OoT soundtrack to one disc, but honestly Mario 64's music would fit on one disc I should think.
The NP disc even contains a little piano remix, so I think they had room to spare.
UPDATE: yeah they're the same soundtrack, slightly different title names though:

Well put. To put it in a better perspective of CBR (constant bitrate) versus VBR (variable bitrate), look at it this way:
In a CBR stream, the encoder uses the same amount of bits for every second of audio. That is, for every second in an mp3 encoded in 320k CBR, you get 320 kbps throughout. While this may sound good in theory, the problem is that not every second of that song warrants 320k.
For example, if a track encoded at 320k CBR starts with hi-hats playing for 10 seconds before the beat kicks in, there is little point encoding that part of the song at 320k. Obviously, once things get busy, you benefit from the high bitrate, but those quiet moments waste the added bits, effectively ballooning the size of the MP3.
Things obviously get worse when you encode at something less than 320k.
As for VBR, it allocates a determined amount of bits to each second of music, so that bits aren't wasted in spots that don't need it, effectively managing the size of the MP3, depending on your chosen VBR preset.
Regardless, keep in mind that MP3 is still and will always be a lossy format, which is why threads like this one exist.

SUPER MARIO 64 (Original Soundtrack)
(1996) NINTENDO
Official soundtrack to Super Mario 64. Contains two versions of Pirahna's Lullabye, I think one of them was unused. The "Bob-Bomb Battlefield" theme is referenced in different ways throughout the disc, as Koji Kondo likes to do with the newer Mario games, using a central tune. Cheerful, lovable, classic Mario goodness.

Star Fox 64 Official Soundtrack
(1997) NINTENDO
Among other feats, Star Fox 64 was the first commercial game to feature Rumble Technology additions to a standard controller. It's a feature we likely take for granted today as it's an industry standard now, nonetheless, the music to the game was composed with raucous strings, triumphant brass and rolling drums to accompany the new vibration-enhanced gameplay. Turns out Koji Kondo can churn out dark, complex tense compositions too. Starwolf's theme is excellent.

As a collector and a staff member of vgmdb, i am very very picky when it comes to music titles, names, designations..
Game rips are game rips, audio recording.. whatever, they generally are on Digital format only (rarely recorded on CD/tape..)
Bootlegs are published/distributed copies against the law. They generally was pressed/printed or CD-R burned.
Redbook audios is also another format and they should never been called Game Rips too (as i see too often).

Antraxx, a big THANK YOU for the N64 trilogy! Classic soundtracks all, and great to have them in lossless. Thanks also for your comments and descriptions. It's been a while since I've listened to Mario 64 in its entirety, and I don't remember the Bob-Bomb Battlefield theme recurring.. Very interesting!
Another stunning post :)

I tried to extract it with 7-zip and I got an error that says "Unsupported compression method". I am using the latest version of 7-zip. Help?
Also, the filesize is only 88MB. That seems wrong...
I'm also having this problem with Twilight Princess. 88MB is clearly the right size but I'm also getting the 'Unsupported compression method' message. Could this be because of the password encription? It doesn't seem to ask for a pw before attempting to unpack tho. Any advice from those who have got it working would be appreciated :)
And thanks AxeGrinder for the Sonic Adventures. I never really got into these soundtracks, so maybe its time to give them a go.
