Somehow I doubt portable players benefit from lossless. I'd say 320cbr at absolute max for the highest end portable equipment (since, from my several posts ago, I don't trust V0 anymore; and 320 sounds more like FLAC to me anyway, but this is just my personal experience) -- if such a thing even exists. And even go with 192 for some (most?) earbuds/phones, since I couldn't even tell that quality's difference on a (really beat-up) Sony MDR-7506 pair. Although, I guess the "in" thing is to go with V2, and maybe V1 if you can tell the difference.

Somehow I doubt portable players benefit from lossless. They don't, really; the main "benefit" is not needing to convert from lossless to MP3.

Hmmm... I certainly do have differences in format preference, for me MP3 is a format that cuts frequencies (and I'm sure you can hear the difference comparing it with other formats)

Curiously enough the first format that made me to realize that was the proprietary format from sony, the attrac3 one... sounded really good, much better than mp3, I remember that I converter my whole library from Flac/Ape/TTA to attrac3 without thinking it... back then I had a Hi-MD, and guess what? sony slowly drop the format and I didn't have anymore the Hi-MD... and so I got my NWZ-S and... I found myself unable to play my attrac files... (Sometimes sony sucks indeed...) but then this device supported the mp4 format... (which is not a format exactly, it's just a container) so I decided to give it a try, used I tunes for that and... well, I still hear difference against MP3, much better indeed but comparing it against attrac it's quite difficult for me to decide which lossy format deliver the best possible sound quality, even now I don't know... but whatever, mp4 almost plays in all players nowadays so I'll stick with it, I learned my lesson with attrac...

Yeah, honestly, I think Lufia II's soundtrack as a whole contains the "romantic" flavor in vidya gaem music you're looking for. It also contains one of the most badass boss-battle themes in the history of RPGs.

I've tried a few novels... and In fact I got the OST of Kannon, that's another wonderful OST (although this is more oriented to be a reflexive one, again... you may find it only when you hear it, Kanon is also simply one of those visual novels perfectly made, and I also recommend the playing of it ^^ (or if you don't want to play the game you may watch the anime, that it actually has almost the same OST))

I even would upload the Kanon OST here... but my disc are in Mexico and right now I'm in Germany... most of my most valued osts are across the sea... :(
Most soundtracks by KEY / Jun Maeda are very beautiful. Kanon is one example, Clannad is another one - in my opinion it's even a bit better. The music is also widely shared (also in lossless), just google for a discography torrent.

I haven't played the games, but watched the anime adaptions of Kanon, Clannad (both first season and After Story, this one made me cry) and AIR. All three can be recommended, I particularly liked Clannad (I would rank is: Clannad, Kanon and then AIR).

Highlights are the vocal themes performed by Lia, especially check out:
'Last regrets ~acoustic version~'
'The Palm of a Tiny Hand'

EDIT: And you probably mean AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) - that's the default audio codec when using the MPEG4 container. And obviously it's superior to MP3, just take a look at the date when both codecs were development. AAC uses a lot more advanced techniques that MP3 simply doesn't allow. AAC competes with Vorbis, but not with MP3.

For reference, I have a Cowon D2+. It's a Korean player(sold here is US as well) which plays FLAC as well as APE. There's even a slightly unstable rockbox port for it, which enables gapless playback. Finally, it's got an SD slot. I have a 16gb player with a 32gb SD card, and it holds all the lossless I can listed to in one go, with a 55 hour battery life. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone on this forum wanting lossless on the go. Check out the iaudiophile forums for more.

I only have the chiptune files, and while good, I've heard MP3s of the real cd before and the songs are extended and arranged a little more to sound like a full album. The songs don't just repeat like in the game.

I got a 1TB hd of the old model (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/238896/western-digital-elements-desktop-1t), and I don't know if they fixed it by now, but I'd be careful when plugging it in. I broke mine twice, accidentely, just because I plugged the power cable before the USB cable. I'm glad they sent me a new one both times. That said, my next external won't be a cheap hd from WD - even though I have no complaints besides that.
@majinpvegeta: I've had it running for over a month nonstop, and it still works just like on the day I got it.

Ya they did. I just bought a Western Digital Elements 2tb ($150 on sale for $20 off).

I don't think modern externals can take that kind of time. All the new ones I've seen don't have any kind of ventilation, or any way to open them up to clean them out. My new WD gets pretty warm after about 6 hours of running :( Maybe the ones built to stay on while the comp is off are made differently?

Nope, they are ordinary 3.5" (Desktop) or 2.5" (notebook/reduced height server/etc) or sometimes even smaller hard drives. All the external HDD cases are just a shell with a PATA (or for most newer ones, SATA) to USB controller chip plus a power connector.

I'm currently using a pair of ATH-EM700ti's, which are the titanium version of the protagonist's headphones from Persona 3. They're not great on bass, but have better hi's and lows than most. If I was really serious about the sound, I'd get a pair of Grados.
The S9 is a crock--there's no SD slot, and it costs more than the D2+ for the same, if inferior, sound quality. If you're looking for the novelty of the touch screen and movies, then it's ok, but it's not my ideal music player. There is the Cowon O2, which has a slightly larger screen and even plays MKV(great for all you anime fans), but the battery life is 18 vs the D2+'s 55.

As for the iPod, no offense, but apple players are notorious for sucking in terms of sound quality. I don't mean lossless vs mp3--I mean, the same file played on an iPod vs, say, a Cowon player, won't sound as good. Look up 'anything but ipod', you'll see what I mean.
Any other questions, just ask.

AFAIK, this is outdated information based on sound chips Apple no longer uses in their products. Well, maybe in the iPod Classic still.

Hmm, Cowon O2, eh? And MKV playback is definitely a plus. =D

Don't listen too much to the ipod bashing, they exaggerate greatly at times. Hell, when portable audio players are involved, I find there is too much bullshit going about anyway - hence why I'd like to try out a Cowon sometime. Well, maybe I should be saying the audio world in general is full of complete bullshit and it really comes down to what your own ears say.
The latest ipods don't suck that much but need a line-out dock plus portable amp (and not a cheap one either) to shine. The 6g 160gb and 5g are the ones I read suck as far as classics. I liked the iphone when I tried out my friend's, even straight out of the hp jack, but I like the bigger hard drive in mine better, lol. Haven't tried the newer 7g 160gb classic yet, and quite honestly not interested that much. A friend told me it's not that much better.

I would have gone the Cowon route, but I received a 6g Classic as a gift.
With a line-out dock I made using OCC silver and the Minibox-E+, the ipod sounds much better and easily puts my "hot-rodded" X-fi Xtremegamer to shame.
My earphones are Hifiman RE0 & RE252, and Monster Turbine Pro Copper.

I can roll opamps (operational amplifiers - a kind of integrated circuit) in the Minibox-E+ and even found a very good opamp that provides tonal correction for the ipod, giving a more natural sound to a lengthy degree.

Like I said, not trying to start a flame war. My issue with the ipods is mostly that the sound quality isn't fantastic in the older models and, although good, the recent ipods don't match the fidelity of other players like the cowons(there's been frequency tests to support this, though the link escapes me currently). In addition, for a flash based player, the lack of expansion support is a con for me, as SD cards and flash memory in general gets cheaper every day. But my biggest problem is that, when it comes to lossless, ipods only do ALAC. People hardly use ALAC(making it a pain to convert FLAC, Wav, or APE to it), and you have to use itunes, which I personally think is an inferior program relative to Media Monkey or even VLC, which just plain gets the job done. Just my opinion, and I get that you got it as a gift, but for everyone else looking for a portable player that doesn't absolutely require an amp, I'd steer clear of Apple products in general. Not that Microsoft's Zune is much better, though...

EDIT: Also, as for an external hard drive(noticed everyone talking about them) I have a 500gb Seagate usb drive which I ordered from NewEgg for $100. It comes with a USB Dock/Hub with an additional 4 USB ports on it. It's a laptop drive, 2.5", with a 5 year warranty. No external power supply needed. I just carry it in my jacket with me, and as of yet I've only used about 200gb of it with a pretty extensive FLAC collection.

I'm going to level with you.

I don't know dick about audio. I barely passed the class, and I couldn't tell you the difference between Mac and Windows audio files if my life depended on it.

But I do love music, and I hate the sound of mp3, especially what it does to drums and percussion.

I've been making do with wav files on my player ever since I saw the word "lossless" next to it in the Windows media player rip window, but I downloaded the Persona 4 sountrack in .flac(thank you very much) and it blew my mind.

As soon as I heard it I eagerly jumped on the BlazBlue sountrack, but the .cue seems to mash all the trascks into one big sound file, and can't play the .tta at all.

Search in google for "Medieval Cue Splitter" that should do the trick for you to separate with the cue file the bigger tta file into the tracks that the cue says. (Or use foobar...)

Welcome to the era of lossless... mp3 was good back then, but nowadays is a no go.

CGN58 do you happen to have reviews from the Sony NWZ-S series? I bought mine after a lot of reviews saying that sound was really superior to other players like the zen or the ipod, but I'm more interested in the frequency test that you mentioned.

(At this rate I probably will buy a COWON too...)

Uh, torrents can die quicker. It depends on what the torrent is.I have no ideological attachment to either, it's the resultant data that I'm interested in, but right now private tracker uploads will last longer.

I'll be interested to see what difference multiupload makes.

I don't use iTunes except to sync. Foobar2k plays ALAC, too, and I could care less for expansion slots since, again, the classic has a huge hard drive.
Flash memory is real nice, though.

So again, I'd like to try a Cowon sometime. =]

I understand perfectly your gripe with mp3, which is mainly why I am in this thread at all.
I think I should also take this time to thank the other shriners who have posted music here, not sure if I have.
A good chunk of my music collection I got through this thread and a few others in this forum.

I don't, sorry. I have a Sony Walkman CD player that's about 10 years old that I love, and an 8 year old home theater in a box that I use for digital audio, but I boycotted Sony the second they pulled that DRM $#1% on their CDs, and I haven't gone back since.

For a good resource, I recommend this site: http://iaudiophile.net/
They do numerous tests on various players(obviously comparing them to Cowon PMPs), but there's a lot of information if you're willing to search the forums.

I am also requesting that Goemon 64 official soundtrack.

I only have the chiptune files, and while good, I've heard MP3s of the real cd before and the songs are extended and arranged a little more to sound like a full album. The songs don't just repeat like in the game.

I think that album is pretty rare though.

Is it the same one in my signature? .. just check the vgmdb link to be sure.

I have the collectors edition soundtrack, but it doesn't include 'children of the elder god'. The unofficial mp3 release does though--I was wondering if anyone would rip that song in lossless, or tell me how to do it, as I have the game.

Persona Music Live - Velvetroom In Wel City Tokyo/FLAC---This is BRAND NEW, came out 6/23/10

http://www.multiupload.com/85X7R5I69Y

NOTES: Trinity Soul is a bootleg copy, but I figure that it should be the same audio either way(at least, EAC thought so). It's also not really a game soundtrack, but I felt like it fit here. If anyone has a legit copy, feel free to contribute it. The rest of the soundtracks are all official.
I am not a premium user, but I am a registered Megaupload user. This means that links will not die until 90 days after their last download, so these should hopefully be up for a whole.
Some track names are weird, and just show up as blank. This is because EAC doesn't speak Japanese, but rest assured, all the tracks work and play.
Finally, no booklet scans. While fun, I didn't think they were essential, and I don't have a scanner. But VGMDB should have scans of most of these if not all of them.

Persona Live, super cool i didn't have this one. Thanks !

Yep, the flac is lifted directly from the DVD Audio, linear PCM and all. Unfortunately, I kept getting disk read errors on track 16, so I eventually had to rip an iso of the disk, mount that, and use DVD Audio Ripper on that. I've already pre-ordered Velvetroom in Wel City Tokyo, the second live show, and that ships the 23rd of this month, so I'll add it to here when I have it.

Looks like disc space got way cheaper than what I bought my 1 TB for ($250)

I wonder how long externals will last if run constantly 24/7.

I've been running a 500GB external (albeit a conventional sata ii drive in an external enclosure) 24/7 for two years, with only one hiccup (enclosure died when it was plugged in from some sort of residual power surge).
I'd recommend an external if it's going to be a storage drive.

Unreal Tournament GOTY Original Soundtrack (lossless)

Ahhh, good old days... *dwelling in the past*
I was disappointed about the fact there were no High Quality (Lossless) Tracks available for this amazing Soundtrack.
So I did them myself.

This Gamefile Rip is based on the GOTY (Game of the Year Edition) which included a few Bonus Tracks.
The Rip was done by using the WinAmp Player with the UMX Plugin.

The way I have done this Rip:

I used the Original UMX files which inherit the ImpulseTracker files the Game Engine used.
Set the UMX Plugin to highest quality settings.
I used the Diskwriter Plugin to Save them to Wave Files, 44.1khz 16bit. So no resampling could occure.
Then converted the outcoming files with DBPoweramb to FLAC files.

After that, I tagged all files with the help of the UT Wikipedia Entry.

Consider this Rip as closest to the Original Material as possible.

Have fun listening,
Raziel

LINKS: Since my Links were reported and taken down 2 times already i only give them out on PM Request. So send me a short message if you want the OST.

Yeah, the reason I brought it up is because of your signature, and because Goemon 64 has great music; some of the best in the series.

So I second the motion.

Also, http://vgmdb.net/album/6456

Yea, its a bummer there not in print still. I'd definitely buy a copy. By the way, its a shame Goe Goe Spark isn't on that soundtrack :P

Totally no offense meant by this... but I don't think people requesting the Ganbare Goemon N64 albums realize how rare they are. You can't find these albums for sale anywhere (even on auction sites and such). And if you do find them, they can go for as much as thousands of dollars. It's extremely unlikely that anyone will be able to fulfill this request, especially considering that these albums aren't totally unpopular, but even the Japanese / Chinese P2P sites still don't have lossless rips of them yet. I've searched for these so much, and there's not a trace of them anywhere.

I'd love lossless rips of these myself, but I think the chances are even slimmer than seeing a lossless rip of Fuujin Ryouiki Eretzvaju (which breaks my heart).

Actually, the Mystical Ninja 64 (the first game on the n64 for goemon) is on Share - but in APE format. :\

I managed to snag it, but it's still in APE after all...plus, it was once a APE+CUE. But it's now split and I deleted the original APE rip of the CD...

Well, you're talking to someone who shares APE files as if APE is a bad thing. I just checked Share and couldn't find this file, so maybe the source just hasn't come around yet. You probably don't remember the hash for that file, but if by some chance you'd have it, I'd appreciate it so I could at least hope it triggers at some point (or I'll just keep looking). Very interesting though, I've never been able to find this soundtrack.

Also, if you dislike APE, simply re-encode it to something you like. That's the whole point of lossless, is that no matter what format you convert things to, the original audio is still intact. What it was ripped to originally doesn't matter, especially since many people actually rip to WAV, then encode that - many times, what you're getting already is a re-encode of something else. No harm in converting it yet again.

I'll just upload the APE stuff I have right now. It's not a bad format, it's just that it's not as compatable as FLAC.

HOLY SHIT!

I'm clicking on that right now.

For the record, I did mention that they are rare, but that's not gonna stop me from requesting them, and why should it. So long as we aren't pushy about it for people not finding them. I'm a very patient guy.

ON the other hand, someone replied with APE versions of the soundtrack the next day, so you have to wonder just how rare they really are. I mean GOemon is renown for its great music, and I know the series is WAY more popular in Japan than here. You'd think it wouldn't have been that rare an occasion for fans of the games to pick this, one of the best osts in the series, up. They can't all be selfish bastards, hoarding them away in a dark cave, licking a knife blade and cackling in the firelight -- can they?

As I said I'm checking them out now...

Thanks, Knuckles500, but also, if you don't like them in APE, just decode them back to WAV and then convert those to FLAC. Probably what I will do.

Wow, I really didn't think I would see a lossless encode of this soundtrack for a long time. Thank you very much for sharing this!

I've always been under the impression that the physical release is very rare, but the fact that one is floating around on Share (and now here) makes a lossless encode considerably less rare, and I'll admit I was pretty wrong about that. We still have yet to see a rip of Goemon's Great Adventure though. Maybe I'll try speaking too soon again and say that we won't see one for a long time - now perhaps someone can come in and prove me wrong again?

For me anyway, I had to rename the Japanese-characters in the ZIP's filename to english in order for Winzip to recognize it.

ALso I f'ing love Goemon's Great Adventure's Castlevania tribute level and song. "Underworld Castle" or whatever it's called. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTuWQPVGtRY&feature=related

So yeah we'll need that soundtrack too :D

I'll personally say that my problem with APE comes from it's playability. To this day, I have not found anything that will not play FLAC, short of Windows Media Player, which is fixed by a codec pack. I have a couple albums in ape(not my rips), and I've found that they won't play on my Cowon, even though all my other FLAC rips will. I personally think FLAC is a better codec because it's more accessible. Even Wav works--I don't really like the fact that ape is associated with monkeys audio either. I find that the program wants to be itunes, which isn't really what I want or need.

Vrantheo

APE's advantage is the "slightly" higher compression rate, and the higher popularity in Asia and thus "slightly" more hardware and software support.

Okay, but I really wasn't making any arguments for or against any codec. Every time someone starts talking about why he or she dislikes a certain codec, it always turns into codec wars, and we sort of lose the purpose of this thread. The purpose of my post was to say that if you like or dislike a certain codec, that's fine, convert and change however you'd like. As long as you're converting between lossless formats, you won't lose any quality, and even the CUE sheets are totally transferrable. That was all I was saying.

Vrantheo

I was about to say the same thing too lol. I was only explaining to those who think like "hey we've already got XXX which is good enough so what's the reason for other formats to exist"...

I'll just upload the APE stuff I have right now. It's not a bad format, it's just that it's not as compatable as FLAC.

Ganbare Goemon ~New Dance of the Momoyama Shogunate~ Original Game Soundtrack" (http://vgmdb.net/album/2779)

(ape+cue)

Download (no password) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OQMMT1PV)

Enjoy. :P

This was on Share all the time I guess, it's just that it would take forever to show up.

PS: Does anyone have the Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts soundtrack in FLAC?

I made a thread for this a while ago and started thinking maybe I should add it in here too :)

This isn't exactly a rip from the disc.... I put the disc in and everything was already in WAV format 0.o So it's basically a copy/paste rip lol. It makes me wonder why I couldn't find the music on the net since it was simple to get from the disc. :/ Oh wells. The titles are correct thanks to the jukebox in the game :) The game was released for the PS1, GC, GBA, and Xbox. I don't have the other versions.

Uh yeah you can't tag wav files. If you wanted to tag it you should convert to flac. I guess its not so big a difference here as you had to rar it up anyway but in the future I think it would be best if you converted to flac so rather than each user tagging his own, you'd do one set of tagging before uploading.
Thanks for the share though, sounds like an interesting score.

Chocolate Misu
06-21-2010, 03:32 AM
I'm sorry Sirus :( But I know how some people are around here about not having logs and cues, and I don't know how to create them for things like this so I decided against making them flac.

edit - But I guess I could turn it flac and tag it.... and not care if anyone whines about it...

Zetto
06-21-2010, 04:24 AM
You can still convert it to FLAC afterwards. FLAC is always preferred here over WAV files: Size and Taggability. There are many ups here without log and/or cue, so don't blame yourself. While it's always preferred to have a perfect rip with correct settings with log & cue, I (we) appreciate people sharing their stuff even if it's not perfect.

But I know how some people are around here about not having logs and cues, and I don't know how to create them for things like this so I decided against making them flac.
Please keep in mind that ripping and converting to flac are two individual operations. You can rip a CD to WAV perfectly fine and maybe decide somewhere later to convert the WAV files to FLAC or APE or M4A or whatever without any harm.

and I don't know how to create them
Logs and CUEs are created during the ripping process. There are some good tutorials out there -> EAC (http://blowfish.be/eac/) (Windows) - XLD (http://jungle.sk/XLD_Tutorial/) (MAC).

The source of your uploaded files is a game disc. While a log would still be preferred it's nowhere as important as to official Soundtrack CDs.

So, don't blame yourself, Thanks for your up!

Chocolate Misu

:) Thanks for the kindness. I've got it converted and tagged now, and am now packing it for uploading.

I ripped this one from an old CD i found on the attic (do not worry, it was in a good condition). It was once in a PC-Magazine.
Some tracks are mere Cutscene or Ambient Sounds than real Songs, you may want to delete those.
I added them for my personal desire to make things good and complete.

Yes I know, but it was more or less because of extracting was nearly impossible because the file names were too long. And converting them from ape to flac the way I did wasn't that hard anyway. Monkey's Audio decompresses to .wav then i just drag the files into EAC and just hit OK lol

Reasons for new rip :

1. I'd riped my soundtrack in "Various" and I'd tagged track by track with name's composers. I think it's more complete and I'd edited tracks with album's name in "comment" with tag & rename.

2. Accurately rip is done with this rip and I think it's a good thing for many people.

what's the source of your version? gamerip? CD? how was it ripped/recorded? do you mean this (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1451306&postcount=6240)one?

The first link (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showpost.php?p=1424650&postcount=4962) is a rip from the official soundtrack cd I assume. I'd like to have that one re-upped :)

Thanks anyway.

Yep, that one. Is a rip from the game, not the retail OST CD.

I don't have it, only the rip.

ATTENTION EVERYONE:
My copy of Persona Music Live - Velvetroom in Wel City Tokyo arrived today. It's an incredibly nice dvd, and the limited edition comes with two bonus cds. I intend to rip it in a few minutes, and then upload it and reupload the rest of the Persona OSTs in FLAC. If anyone has a preferred upload service, time to speak up.

Crap. Ok, here's what's up. DVD Audio Extractor is having trouble ripping flac from the dvd due to copywrite protection. Last time this happened, I did a slow rip of an iso of the disk, mounted that, and the program ripped it just fine. My issue is that I'm having trouble making an iso of the dvd due to copywrite protection. Anyone have any advice to bypass this? Christ, all I want to do is listen to it on the go...

EDIT: Fixed the problem using ANYDVD. Bypassed the protection, and DVD Audio Extractor is working just great now. I wholeheartedly recommend that program to anyone wanting to rip concert dvds. Should have the rips up again in the next day or so.

First, I'd like to say thanks to -FDM64-. It turns out that my Persona 3 rip is, in fact, missing several tracks. Having used EAC and having had it tested thoroughly, I can say that I am thoroughly pissed. As we speak, I am getting a lossless wav rip from a friend, which I can then re-encode to FLAC. Sorry to everyone who downloaded the rip, and I'll have it fixed shortly.

EDIT: Great, I've now gone through my hundreds of CDs, and it looks like EAC royally screwed me. There's several tracks missing. I'm requesting these disks in FLAC. I understand that these aren't all strictly game osts. If they're game and they've been posted in this thread, please redirect. If you personally have them, PLEASE pm me. I'm having a bit of a panic attack here. I'm requesting:
Ghost in the shell music archive sound files(The soundtrack to the PS2 game)
Ghost In The Shell OST 3
Persona 3 OST(I can proabably get this on my own, but not necessarily)
Persona 4 OST(I can proabably get this on my own, but not necessarily)

PERSONA TRINITY SOUL
SONIC TRUE BLUE
Sonic True Colors
SUBARASHIKI KONO SEKAI--The first OST, not the second, 19 track one.

I ripped this one from an old CD i found on the attic (do not worry, it was in a good condition). It was once in a PC-Magazine.
Some tracks are mere Cutscene or Ambient Sounds than real Songs, you may want to delete those.
I added them for my personal desire to make things good and complete.

Good, but after some comparations with old rips around the net it seems that 4 tracks are missing. Here (http://rapidshare.com/files/402723046/Miss_TR2.zip.html)'s a zip

Hey guys. Comcast is still run by Voldemort, so I'm going to have to go to a friend's place to upload the persona disks. Looks like Trinity Soul, Persona 3, Persona 3 FES are missing tracks. Persona 4, in cruel irony, is actually only missing one track. All the same, tonight I'm hoping to upload Burn My Dread Reincarnation and the two live shows, but if people(as in, all of you reading this) would be good enough to contribute the aforementioned soundtracks, we would have a full set. I know they're scattered around the forums here, but if someone(ie: YOU) could dl them and reupload, then post on this page, that would be awesome.

On an unrelated note, my Rockman Zero rips seem to be ok. I have Rockman Zero, Idea, and Telos. Fliggamarole, props to him, is planning to rip Physis into FLAC and send it to me. When done, I intend to upload all 4 on this page. He is also getting Mythos, but so far it hasn't arrived yet. For those of you who absolutely can't wait, I would suggest nagging DXAshram, as he might have it by now. There's also an mp3 rip at 192kpbs(boo, hiss!) already up.

Japanese track names. EAC doesn't recognize them, so names are left blank. It can only do this so many times before tracks get overwritten. It's my fault, I should have manually renamed them instead of using the accuraterip database. Shows me. Persona 3 and FES have already been uploaded on ffshrine in lossless, and one user in the previous few pages has already admitted to having Persona 4 in flac(take a look through, you'll recognize the post). Again, I'm asking people to download the soundtracks I've requested and reupload them here in FLAC. They are out there people, and if I do it, it means you'll have to wait even longer for a complete Persona collection.

Quality > Time ;)

I (We! I think I can speak for most of us) would prefer proper rips from you anytime, even it takes longer that way. Would be really nice if you could up proper rips of your persona stuff. The FES up is missing a log & cue. The Persona 3 up from Nisto is a proper one. A proper rip (as far as I am concerned) does not only have a log & cue, but is also ripped with certain settings (offset, test&copy etc), but I guess you already know that ;)

Well, I error check everything 3 times(3 is a magic number, as you well know), but my previous rips didn't have logs and cues and these likely won't either, as many of them can't. The live persona shows were dvd releases, and the audio is taken directly from them, hence, no log and cue files. I'm getting a proper FLAC rip of Persona 4 now, but that's going to take several more hours, as it's in 10 parts, and each part takes about half an hour.

The other thing about CUE and LOG files is that not all of my rips are my own. EAC did an innaccurate rip, and I'm on vacation, so I don't have access to my cd collection. As a result, some of the rips I intend to upload have been scoured from obscure torrent sources, aren't mine, and don't have log and cue files. Personally, I don't see the point--cue files are great if you're trying to burn an exact copy of the disk, but as far as I'm concerned, most people are listening to this on their computers and/or portable players. If you want an exact copy of the disk, buy it. Persona is obscure, but it's not out of print.

kokujin

Decompressed .ape files then converted to .flac with EAC. Files are renamed to English, so extracting is a bit easier.

OK about the DVDs, that's fine. If some of the rips aren't yours well, nothing you can do on these.

I don't wanna start a discussion here but there are people (including me) that prefer the absolute best rip possible (best = that most resembles the original). Even if it's just for archiving/collecting purposes.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to have access to my original cd collection until mid august. Do you really want to wait for a rip until then? And again, my goal in making these rips is not for collection purposes, it's for listening. Many of the rips on this forum don't have these files, and they don't make the listening experience any better. If you really want, in August I'll re rip, and attach logs and cues. As it is, I'm having difficulty just getting these to upload. Comcast is screwing with my traffic, and I'm having trouble just getting multishare to finish Velvetroom in Wel City Tokyo, let alone any of the cd rips. If anyone knows a share service not fuxed by Comcast, that would be great. I've tried re-uploading this, like, 5 times now.

True. Absolutely. Like I said, it's only for completeness. I care for this last bit of completeness. Some people do, some people do not. Hey, when you upload a rip without this stuff, I'll still grab it. I listen, too ;> .

If you really want, in August I'll re rip, and attach logs and cues.

what makes you believe that this is a transcode? Because of the missing log or did you check with Audiochecker or maybe did a spectral analysis?

missing log != transcode

EDIT: Indeed Audiochecker results seem suspicious

There's a sharp cutoff at 16000khz. There are no cutoffs in the spectral of a true lossless file.
Hai Hai, I know. Just wanted to ask him if he makes his assumption based on the missing log only.
