If he can continue the slightly less bombastic, more atmospheric stuff that Arnold was starting to do in QoS, then I'm all for Thomas Newman. From listening to a few bits and bobs of his, he's certainly well qualified in that department. Hopefully he can do the action stuff justice as well.

I'm intrigued by the choice of Newman. But at the same time perplexed. I mean, he has never done anything like this before.

arnold is too busy being musical director for the '12 olympics and sam mendes just went with newman because they work together on almost every film. i'm surprised the producers gave him a choice, that's usually broccoli and wilson's decision but i guess since mendes is seasoned enough and carries enough clout that he was able to have more decision making power.

i really don't think he can screw it up. the worst he could do is turn in a score that is just serviceable.
i was listening to american beauty and wall*e earlier today. i was able to imagine some of it in a bond movie.
i wonder how he will arrange the bond theme; if he'll go the safe route and do it traditional with guitars etc or if he'll give it his distinctive, weird newman sound...

Thats why I am intrigued by the decision. I am interested to see what he comes up with. I would never have considered him for a Bond movie, but sometimes thats a good thing!

The Good German. That's one score from Newman who i can think of, that could remotely relate in a bond movie.

I hope Skyfall's score sounds, both, like nothing we've ever heard from Thomas Newman and nothing we've ever heard for 007, and I hope it's magnificent and really revitalizes and redifines the musical possibilities for a Bond picture.
But I also hope Thomas Newman is learned in the pitfalls of ever straying too far from home (Eric Serra... although I do love his GoldenEye score). If you're going to visit the dragon, you'd better feed the beast. Just give us a couple of unadulterated full on outbursts of the James Bond theme and we should be good.
Anaximander
01-07-2012, 07:35 AM
right. arnold toned down his use of the theme a lot in the last two and there were moments when we really coulda used it
as far as one-off composers go, i think martin and kamen did the most interesting work in the series

Thomas Newman score Skyfall ...
Has he ever written a score of action would have deserved the name?
For dramas newman is certainly an excellent choice. He is rather a master of the quiet tones.
But action? And Bond? Let's hope the best ...

ltk needs an expansion...badly
i'd be most excited for avtak and octopussy and moonraker
i remember reading an interview with lukas kendall where he said they were gonna expand tmwtgg in '03 but ran out of money so they stopped with lald
anyway, if they do all those then we'll have every john barry bond score expanded :D
but it's doubtful we'll get moonraker since the tapes were supposedly lost
KaFaraqGatri
01-09-2012, 08:15 PM
Thats a myth about Moonraker. Apparently no one bothered to look in France, that's all. Or the tapes werent they were meant to be.
If I had to pick one score, if thats all I had... it would have to be LTK. AVTAK is my favorite Bond score but LTK is just so bad on the album (with tons of amazing music missing) that I would take that first. Which is weird, as Barry is my favorite composer lol.

Hey Tak, are you're FLAC scores legit FLAC or are they converted from mp3? I'm just curious about quality.
KaFaraqGatri
01-10-2012, 12:06 AM
Absolutely legit, lol. There'd be no point converting lossy files to FLAC :)
However, one or two tracks were only given to me in MP3. I converted these to 24-bit WAVs, did the mastering, then converted to 16-bit WAV for FLAC encoding (to maintain quality).
Hope that makes sense!

So Judi Dnch's M is being replaced with Ralph Fiennes M - interseting
A source from EON Production, which is making the film along with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, told MovieWeb that Dench was on her way out.
It said: 'Ralph Fiennes play's a government agent, which we never get a name on, because he is set to play the new M.
'Skyfall centres around M (Judi Dench) where her past forces her to leave as head of MI6, and find a new M. The board of MI6 then turns to a government agent (Ralph Fiennes) to take over. M (Dame Judi) is now forced to train the new head of MI6.'
Fiennes was previously rumored to be play Bond's old arch-enemy Blofeld, a suggestion which the actor later denied.

I think YouTube compresses audio and video down that it would lose the purpose of being encoded in Mp3 and Flac. Plus Google is quick to pull the trigger on any file that seems to draw any attention from a copyright holder. I think a nuclear war is going on with File hosting lockers, with two more already going down today. I think its time to wait and see who is still left standing and willing to stand up against these pre SOPA attacks.

Just be sure to use codenamed files for your archives like babydoll's doing for the Star Trek reuploads... like for FRWL you can use "Tatiana Romanova" for the filename so that it's concealed and reduces the chances of the file being removed... the only problem with MediaFire is that you have to split your archives into 200MB files each if you're not a premium member.

Thank you for TMWTGG! Managed to get it eventually - really enjoyable! I know the film is rather silly, but I still enjoy it. Barry's music is great, and having had to have been composed in such short space of time is remarkable. I'd love to see a more serious remake of the film, in proper cat-and-mouse style between two masters in their field, would be brilliant. I wonder who would be Craig's Scaramanga?? I prefer mp3: Easier to play on mp3-players without having to convert all files from FLAC and lose audio along the way, less harddrive space AND easier to burn to CD :)
Also waiting for Dr No, TSWLM, Octopussy and YOLT and KaFaraqGatri's return :)

While Mp3 is easier for immediate playback on all of our devices, I like FLAC as it allows me to convert a lossless file to my format of choice...whether it's another lossless format (ALAC) or to my preferred setting for devices (AAC iTunes Plus).
Plus, in a world with very affordable hard drives (up to 3TB for single drives as of now), storage isn't the problem that it used to be...not to include our portable devices.

MP3 by nature loses quality from the original - whether I encode it or you!

That is IF you can AFFORD those harddrives. Not always an alternative for a poor student.

True but doesn't matter as I still have to convert FLAC to mp3 to play them on mp3-players AND burn them, which has been the point since you've included CD-artwork all along, right? Just facts, no critisism as you should no by know. Honestly I can't see the point in going thru this all over again. Life is too short. Jeez...

Very true and if I were in your situation, I would have a similar mindset...however that is also what makes FLAC a great choice. If storage space was a primary influence in my choice of format and quality, I would likely download each album in FLAC as I went along and simply convert it to my lossy format of choice (aac, mp3, etc.). In fact, this is what I do anyway (regardless of storage capacity) as I convert all my music to the 'iTunes Plus' (256 VBR AAC) format.
Having a lossless source is the best way to give everyone what they want.

Okay. Don't want to come off like a drama queen, but life sucks right now in a few ways: My band which I've played with for years is breaking up, I can't smell anything cause of a cold and don't have the energy to do a difficult home university exam, I'm unemployed so all this about audio and so on just didn't seem relevant in comparison.

I chop and change, but I think I always come back to two of the underdogs - A View to a Kill and Licence to Kill. There is some lush string work in the former, and Airship to Silicon Valley is a favorite track of mine. I also love the electric guitar additions and the action theme present in Golden Gate Fight (and some other cues). The title song is also my favorite Bond song. Licence to Kill has amazing brass work (despite Kamen admitting he didnt think he wrote so well for brass) and there are so many great unreleased cues in there that are just superlative (Bond Flames Sanchez, Dario's Death).
But I also deeply admire You Only Live Twice, Moonraker, and The Living Daylights.

Well I spent many hours uploading them to Megaupload... and then it went down. I kept 320k files on my hard drive (most of the unreleased music on them was lossy-sourced anyway). Since the MU closure, we just don't know how long other, similar sites are going to last. So uploading 320k files is, sadly, all I can do, which is a lot quicker and seems to be enough to keep people happy.

These soundtracks are wonderful-thank you.
I was just wondering something. I fully appreciate that they are expanded and not necessarily complete scores. However TMWTGG seems to be much more complete for example than OP. I love the OP score -one of my faves-but a lot seems missing-the Acrostar landing,Bond's arrival in India, his escape in the bag, "007 you're on your own now", poolside music, the loaded dice. Why is this the case? I'm not ungrateful, please don't think that, but just curious as to the variations.
Thank you once again!

That was happening to me on all peeje download requests yesterday. I think their usage has rocketed, and they just get busy.
I've had no problems today. I suggest you try again later.

Seems like Peeje is going down in any moment - now they have this so called "download slots"-limit for free users... By this speed they take that "no downloads for free users"-alternative route very soon... :(

Hey guys, just sign up for a free account. It takes two seconds :) Doesnt matter if youre not gonna upload anything, but it might help.

The download slots limit is for a specific file (there are no "free" users as such... everyone is just a user). I've seen it used occasionally over the last couple of months, but it never lasts very long.
I've already downloaded the Dr. No score.

Nice job on DN. With one Bond to go, any hint on what's on the back burner (if anything)?

Although DR No is the very first Bond film, it is the least favourite of soundtracks and this may be because I'm not over keen on the original commercial release.
The little note about the score is interesting, so I'm going to give this a listern to.
Thanks
Now I just have to wait for Octopussy to be re-upped.

Thanks for Dr. No.
Your editing in the gunbarrell is superb.
As Mr Bond might say, "just one to go, that'll be the clicher." Thanks for all your hard work on this. Can I echo a previous post and suggest you post both versions of Spy and then others can decide which version they prefer?

Thats more than likely what I will do. I dont know how soon it will be done either, as I dont have any materials yet (I got rid of my old ones as the quality was sub-par). But rest assured, it will get done - I know one or two didnt think it would happen :)

Not your fault I know but am gutted with lack of extra music for Octopussy.... had hoped extra clips would be accessible from bluray channels. Oh well, someone has re-played clips that are missing on YouTube using a synthesizer and whilst not perfect, they are damn close to missing cues.... search octopussy expanded score

Wait so you already got the 33 tracks score of Goldeneye? All I'm really aiming to get is the Train Escape track since Fatal Weakness was not the exact track played in the scene.

GoldenEye 007 was posted before MU wernt down. TND the game is available on CD and its complete, so no need for an expanded version. As for the others, if I get em, I will post em!

The GoldenEye track "Tank drive in St. Petersburg" (aka the movie version) and the TWiNE track something or other ("suite"?) with an alternate version of "Access Denied", and possibly others contained in the collections, are from this album: Amazon.com: The Ultimate James Bond Collection (4CD BOX SET): City of Prague Philharmonic: Music (

I meant to edit before someone replied, but the wi-fi at the public library is incredibly unreliable ~_~
Anyway, is the "pop mix" of "You know my name" included with Casino Royale? I haven't heard that version.

@monkeygra What do you mean with "pop mix"? Do you mean the "Main Titles" version the on-movie version of You Know My Name?
monkeygra
04-14-2012, 09:50 PM
oh ok, the "pop mix" is the same as the album version, which apparently is different from the single version. You Know My Name - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (
