Will you be doing the scores for the Agent Under Fire, GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Everything or Nothing video games as well?

Now that La-La Land gave us Die Another Day, does anyone know if its possible to make a film mix of the entire score?

Nope. I believe a handful of cues had electronics stems removed in the dubbing stage (whereas Arnold preferred the mixed with them mixed in, which is why they are like that on CD).

Indeed, and I think there's a couple more.

Yes. The content of the bootleg (or rather the 'promo', allegedly) will likely have been the source for the LLL edition but that's speculation on my part.

I remember the bootleg of DAD when it became available was described as accessed from the composer's files. Which would explain the similarity to the official expanded CD.

JUNE / JULY UPDATE

Well, we have some good news (especially for those who want to save on shipping)

Due to vacations, approvals and the July 4th Holiday, we here at La-La Land Records have decided to forgo the June 19 and July 5 release dates and just release 3 titles on Tuesday, June 26!

June 26 releases:

100 RIFLES / RIO CONCHOS - 2 CD SET - $24.98
MAN WITH ONE RED SHOE - $19.98
??? - $19.98

Sorry, but that last one is still a mystery. There will be a separate press release for this title and the series it represents as soon as the studio gives us the thumbs up on the PR!

After that June 26 batch is released, our next batch will be out on Friday, July 13th followed by our final July batch of impossible missions on July 31st.

Could that mystery title be a Bond title perhaps? (the series it presents, Bond series?) If so it could be The Man With The Golden Gun for starters...Fingers crossed!

I hope it's that Barry score we've all been waiting for! The 16-track tapes for "The Man with the Golden Gun" does exist.

I do hope there was enough time to find the missing tapes for "A View to a Kill" and "Octopussy" and that would round up the missing 80s Roger Moore scores.

Hamlisch's "The Spy Who Love Me" is another holy grail for Bond fans, but 24-track tapes are expensive to master and it's unsure if these are the film mixes or the rerecording LP mix.

We know an expanded Tomorrow Never Dies will be here at some point. I doubt it will be this soon though.

I have bad news on that front, as I've spoken with the man himself, David Arnold on Twitter yesterday afternoon regarding this.

I don't feel like screencaping our conversation, but here's how it went:

David: "I'm not planning this btw" (in regards to the expanded TND)

Me: Thanks for the reply! (insert me talking about the story in regards of TND, which is kinda long and I don't want to bore anyone here, haha!)

David: I mean I'd like to, as the original had stuff missing, but Ive no idea if it ever will be.

----

I'm uncertain if TND will ever happen, but who knows for certain. ;)

^ I did, as LLLR licensed with the Mission: Impossible franchise for quite some time.

-----

Still, here's hoping for the official expanded scores for the other David Arnold Bonds, though I don't mind a Barry (a newly redone "Majesty's", "You Only Live Twice", "The Living Daylights", "Diamonds Are Forever" or " Thunderball" would be nice on 2 CDs with the LP edits/presentation on disc one and the bonus tracks that spans onto disc two being dedicated to the film mixes and never before heard segments of cues. However, "Golden Gun" is my Barry holy grail, along with "A View to a Kill" and "Octopussy") or Eric Serra's "GoldenEye" with Altman's Tank Chase cue.

kfg does these scores when he gets time I guess. It would be nice to be able to complete the set.

Of the 3 scores remaining, Moonraker is easy to find. Beyond the CD tracks, the last time kfg put together a Moonraker collection he used gkgyver's rerecordings of the tracks not on the album. All of these gkgyver tracks can still be found here https://www.youtube.com/user/gkgyver/videos?sort=dd&view=0&shelf_id=3.

TSWLM and LTK are similar to each other. The tracks not on these albums have largely been found (clear of sfx) on the movie audio tracks. The quality obviously isn't so good, so it's a question of whether kfg can clean these up enough to want to include them.

I was surprised that they never re-released all the soundtracks in their entirety to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the franchise. Where some tapes lost/damaged?

It's due to time and money (or as in the case for the first three Bond films and Moore's "Moonraker", lack of the master tapes, because they're probably lost indefinitely). We're lucky we got an expanded "Die Another Day", but the rest has to do with not only the time and money and the big heads to say "yes" or "no" on releasing these, but also the demand. A lot of people would rather be interested in a John Williams or Hans Zimmer score getting the full CD treatment than, say, a David Arnold or a John Barry (Thomas Newman...maybe, since a lot of his scores are being released by La La Land Records and I hope LLLR will get a deal with Decca to get the master tapes for the full scores to "SPECTRE" and "Skyfall").

We all know that "Moonraker" is lost and sources state that the master tapes are nowhere to be found in France, but probably elsewhere. The first three Connery film scores are lost, probably indefinitely, who knows? "The Spy Who Loved Me" has 24-track tapes full of music, but it's unsure whether or not these are the film versions or the master tapes for the re-recording, plus 24-track tapes are expensive to master. Eric Serra probably has the master tapes of "GoldenEye", but the John Altman tank chase cue is on digital equipment that is very expensive to master. There is more music for "Thunderball" that didn't make it to CD and same goes for "Majesty's" and "Diamonds", but were omitted, due to space on a single CD and in the case for "Majesty's", a lot of redundant passages in the music. "Golden Gun" *was* going to be released, as there are 16-track tapes of the score, but word got to Kendall (who've mastered the CDs) that the project was getting a bit too expensive. This is due to the fact that some of these masters are in Abbey Road and knowing Abbey Road, George Martin, and Paul McCartney...yeah. Had Kendall thought to do a Barry score rather than the Martin one ("Live and Let Die"), we would've gotten "Golden Gun". "Octopussy" and "A View to a Kill" are missing at the moment. "Octopussy" was recorded at MGM/A&M records if memory serves me, but there wasn't enough time to scour the master tapes. "A View to a Kill" was recorded in London, but the tapes weren't available at Abbey Road for whatever reason (maybe due to time or maybe it got relocated? Who knows for sure).

I was hoping for LLLR to do Kamen's "Licence to Kill", but unfortunately, they have chosen Kamen's "Die Hard" score to expand instead, in order to coincide with that film's 30th anniversary. Can't complain though, as it expands on the previous LLLR release by utilizing 4 CDs and the stereo version of the film's opening.

There's always next year for Bond music though...

I won't hold my breath but 2019 might give us the "Licence to Kill" we deserve (the film came out in '89 and 2019 is the 30th anniversary). The official CD needs a fresher sound and the running time is too short.

Unless LLLR decides to ditch "Licence" altogether and give us Arnold's "The World is Not Enough" for that film's 20th anniversary.

Goldeneye or the remaining David Arnold scores all should be easily available for expansion. So too should The Man With The Golden Gun, as it was previously ready to go.

LLL have said that EON were very happy with the process and end product for Die Another Day, plus it sold 2500 copies within the first 2 or 3 months, so the next expansion should be appealing to them now.

I'm more excited about HP Prisoner of Azkaban honestly. I think TWINE is my favorite Pierce Brosnan Bond movie. I kind of wonder how HP1 and 2 will fair, given that their sessions have been out for awhile.

TWINE and GoldenEye are tied as my favorite Brosnan movies. Well, there's also TND too. All of the Brosnan-era films have great scores too.

Let's hope TWINE sells well and we might see Tomorrow Never Dies and a proper expanded score for GoldenEye too.

I'm sure TWINE as a whole is thought more highly of than DAD. And LLL has said that DAD sold really well. If we go by that logic, TWINE is bound to succeed.

I imagine they will, since it looks like these disks have more material than the bootleg/complete sessions that have been out (and not disregarding HP & JB's fanbases).

Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone looks to have almost exactly everything the sessions leak has, plus some bonuses (I've not seen "Hogwarts Forever Vocal Version" anywhere before).

Chamber of Secrets definitely has more material, including 'Ransacked Dormitory', 'The Chamber Opens' insert* and the alternates.

And Prisoner of Azkaban... just has more.

*I did a hypothetical mix of 8m2 Pit of Bones/Goodbye to Memories & Harry Goes to Find Ginny. Removing the silences and crossfading them gives a length 30 to 40-some seconds short of the LLLR track ('The Chamber Opens and The Search for Ginny' - 3:29).

I'm just amazed any of these are getting expansions. These were my pipe dreams. All four at once...

I'd be surprised now if TND didn't come out, seeing as David Arnold said previously that it was ready. The test will be if they are happy to go beyond those scores.

I'm surprised the film version of "M's Confession" isn't on here unless it's an edit of what's on the album. The album version runs 1:34, while the film version runs 0:39. However, what's on here looks good. I can't wait for my copy.

If it’s that short in the film, is it possibly tracked from another cue somewhere in the score? Or is it just a shortened version of the album version?

Firstly, mad excited by the slew of awesome LLL releases about to come out.

Secondly, with regards to no post of Fox material, I checked the banned thread - Nothing from Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation - and checked the wiki link provided for the list of affected productions. The only Bond move here is Die Another Day, which so far is also the only Bond movie to have been released by 20thCFFC. Does the ban extend to films distributed by 20thCF Home Entertainment? Or non Film Corp releases that just happen to be distributed somewhere by Fox? Surely if the film isn't on the wiki list the banned thread links to, then it's not banned?

My head hurts.

Does anyone think the TWINE expansion will include the film version of The World Is Not Enough? The film version has some trumpet blasts as the very start of the track (there's three just as the title appears)?

On that note, I literally just realize that this will be the first EON Bond album to include the intro song in 10 years/since Quantum of Solace.

OP posted the film version in his TWINE expanded edit in this very thread, should the LLL set not include it. And the trumpet is present throughout the song, it’s in more than just the intro. I prefer the film version over the album version even though (like most Bond songs) it’s abridged.

Same here. It's a great set but really wanted that piece (even though, I think, it is just the original multi-track cue with sections muted in the film). The demo sung by David Arnold I am excited for; he has a great singing voice and his live version on YouTube is wonderful.

For years I've had a DVD audio rip of "Body Double" in my TWINE playlist, for some reason I thought I'd cleaned it up as much as I could, with dogs barking and planes taking off in the background. When I saw this track wasn't on the new CD, I looked at again, and got rid of a lot of those noises. Listening to it afresh, you are quite right. It is just the same track with the strings and synths to the fore and the techno percussion mainly dialled right down, and sometimes turned off altogether. I guess they thought it would sound jarring with that backing cutting randomly in and out.

Sounds right. It seems a bit unclear as to whether or not TWINE can be shared, but if it can I’d hope it could be held back for 3 or 4 months. Most sales would be in that period.

I agree with you both. There should be some sort of restriction on LLL labels not being posted for the first few months of release or so. Why do you think I keep making the point that TWINE technically can’t be posted? Because it’s banned and because I want it to sell. So for the survival of the forum and for the release of future Bond scores from LLL.

suteki_da_ne0087
12-04-2018, 05:54 PM
Yeah, we have to restrict the LLL Bonds, especially since they're both banned and I want them to sell too so that we can get more Bond scores.

The 2003 Capitol/EMI Bond remasters by Kendall flopped so hard IMO, you can find them at bargain bins, eBay and Amazon for less than the price they were sold back then (though I wouldn't say "flopped" because that's a harsh word for such a monumental release that I'm sure Kendall tried to make perfect, but wasn't able to because of restrictions at the time, hence the track order was more of a listening experience with bonus tracks that showcased a fraction of the scores). I'm still trying to collect those, just to support Bond music. I only have FYEO and FRWL officially. The rest are on vinyl (I have two "Goldfinger" releases on vinyl because one is mono and one is stereo).

Cameron007
12-04-2018, 07:28 PM

I agree, let's hold off and not ruin a good thing

My advice, keep to back channels if requesting/sharing it. I think the best though would be if people at least wait until the initial run of pressings sells out. I think sharing out of print scores is a lot more forgivable with this sort of release, whereas sharing something that is easily bought and in ready demand just looks bad. I would hate to see LLL ban all of their scores from this forum over something like this, and I also think it's best we do anything we can to support the labels so that it will make them more likely to release this sort of thing in the future, because while I really don't care about seeing Arnold expansions, I am hoping we will eventually see the classic Barry scores all restored and expanded. This is exactly the sort of release that could draw the negative attention and ire of these labels if people go crazy sharing it within weeks of its release, and I would hate to see the plug pulled on any future expansions because of a few impatient people being blamed over less than stellar sales numbers. We really don't need a repeat of FSMGate here. especially considering this and similar forums are frequented by at least one or two industry insiders or those with connections to insiders.

MrEMAANN
12-05-2018, 12:46 AM
These released didn't exactly flop hard. They were mid-priced releases to begin with, and I suspect the reduced price has more to do with the shrinking CD market. The other issue was that many of the releases were not expansions but re-releases, with only a mild improvement in sound. I'm glad I was able to pick them all up.

Why is Kendall the main reason?

There was a big fuss several years back over people sharing lossless copies of The Ron Jones Project boxset, and this ultimately led to the current ban here on sharing any FSM releases, even those out-of-print and now difficult to find ones (which I think should be allowed as long as physical stock at various labels no longer exists, but that's just my opinion). They were sharing links here within days of its release. It's a big dollar item, 14 discs. Personally I think it was an overly ambitious project and it was always going to be difficult to see profits that justified what went into producing that set. I seem to remember reading somewhere where he said they took a loss on that set but I don't know if that was partially due to people pirating it (I have a feeling that most of the people who downloaded free copies wouldn't have otherwise dropped a huge chunk of money on a physical copy anyway, since the most diehard Star Trek score collectors were probably still willing to pay for a physical copy), but I can understand how frustrating it must have been for him to see people casually sharing free digital copies of the culmination of his hard work.

Its all about licensing. Sometimes the singer/songwriters label doesnt want their song on another label. Theres fees and whatnot. Theres a reason DAD wasnt on La-La Lands release. Same with Cline Dion and Titanic.

Licensing issues (methinks with the label, etc.). Adele costs money, as does Sam Smith and the late Chris Cornell. It's kinda skewed as to how this goes, but it's a huge mess. I hope LLLR convinces the labels to add the title songs for the Craig films, but it's unlikely as LLLR had ran to licensing issues before (Madonna and Celine Dion saying "no" for their respectful songs to be added to the expanded releases for "Die Another Day" and "Titanic" respectfully, the first LLLR expanded issue of "Home Alone" not including some of the songs until the 25th anniversary by LLLR, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" not including some of the songs such as "Taking the Day Off", "March of the Swivelheads" and "Twist and Shout", etc.). This isn't limited to LLLR but also Intrada (they've omitted the Bryan Adams song from the expanded score of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" this year due to licensing rights). I'm surprised Garbage manged to say "yes" this year for the expanded release of TWINE.

Has anyone ever had any problems with LLLR shipping? Because I ordered the TWINE Soundtrack and got The Schindler's List soundtrack instead!

I bet they’ll let you keep it and send TWINE for free. Email them and explain what happened.

Hi, I just listened to the cd, unfortunately "Come In 007, Your Time Is Up" the Bond theme is absent when Bond enters the restaurant with the motorboat, while for the Caviar Factory and Going Down - The Bunker the missing pieces have been added of the Bond Theme.

I managed to get a copy of LLLR TWINE. It’s been worth the 19 years wait, the gun barrel and bank escape is wonderful and funky. I also loved hearing the elements track where the gun barrel is broken down into sperates.
Was a bit disappointed the boat chase track was not the film version, but still enjoyable after all these years.
I’m hoping LLLR will next year release TND as it will most definitely benefit. There are so many cues and tracks that never made it commercially. It has lots of bond themes throughout as this was David’s first outing as a bond composer and he took full advantage of using the bond theme.

As far as I can tell, the Thames Boat Chase (Film Version) simply loops a portion of the previous material with the percussion and electronics stems dialed down before resuming the full mix of the cue for when Bond goes blasting back into the water. The cue(s) presented on the original album and the LLLR edition are what was originally recorded.

Still missing is the "Main Titles" mix of the title theme, which featured brass overlays and more of the orchestra.

Also missing is the "film version" of the end credits suite. "Orbis Non Sufficit" is prominently used during the end credits, but there was actually another piece of music (NOT "Company Car" from TND) that formed the intro of the end credits. That piece was not included on this set.

Orbis Non Sufficit IS actual End Credits. Arnold simply re-used (re-record) opening from TND, and what's you all call "film version" - is badly mixing version of Orbis Non Sufficit (with lot's of echos & wow).

The film version of "Body Double" is just a different mix of the album track. They just dialled the background percussion up and down (and sometimes out). It actually makes for an odd listen when you aren't watching the movie. The album version sounds better.

But if they could have provided an orchestral version that would have been a nice contrast.

That's not the case, from what I understand. There was an additional cue, albeit with similarities to Company Car, that was used to create the film version of the end credits. "Orbis" was Arnold's intended End Credits, so it appears on the CD.

The film version of the boat chase is not an actual cue but obviously done late in the mixing as La La Land usually make their albums based on the tapes they get. As in Die another Day the two cues that have the techno beat taken out were an editorial decision and not David Arnold's intention but in the film you can barely hear the music when bond drives through the cafe as the SFX overpowers everything.

I wonder, does LLL re-watch the movie 'stop-pause' when they make 'film versions' of cues/sequences or do they follow notes from the composer/editor?

So the boat chase cue was to have been like the CD version, but then they recorded a 30 second piece later and just inserted it for Bond’s boat going on the road. Is that right?

Was that the same for The Bunker?

I'm assuming that the version of the film that Arnold originally scored either did not feature the "restaurant" portion or featured a very abbreviated version of it. When the picture changed, rather than re-record (very costly), the music editor simply tracked an earlier segment of the cue and dialed out the electronic percussion. It's a rather nasty musical edit, so I am not terribly sad to see it's not available on this edit.
Update: See below. No tracking or looping at all - and there's actually no "Edit" per se either - just dropping the electric guitar AND percussion. Mystery solved.

As for the bunker, the full version of that music is new to LaLaLand - as it appears in the finished film. The original album featured a cut down version that flows better musically. This version appears on disc 2 of the LaLaLand release.

Sometimes, yes, they will. On something like the new Harry Potter collection, there's a lot of detective work to be done - because they are amassing reels and reels of multitrack elements.

From what I gather on these Bond projects, especially DAD, David Arnold supplies the producer, Mr. Bulk, a lot of material that has already been edited and mixed down to stereo, with very little "assembly" needed. At least that's how I understand it.

UPDATE ON THE "THAMES BOAT CHASE"

- so I synced up the picture to the soundtrack and finally figured out exactly what happened. There was actually *no* tracking or looping. The cue plays more or less exactly as written, and as appears on the soundtrack. What happened was, when Bond jumps his boat up onto the restaurant, the sound editor dialed out BOTH the electric guitar stem AND the percussion stem, leaving just the orchestra. The electronics re-join the cue as Bond's boat barrels into the Thames -

Mystery solved. Like "Body Double", the film version of this cue is only mixed differently - it doesn't contain any new music or even any tracking. Shame they couldn't have included an "Orchapella" version of the boat chase, as Arnold did on a his two early Shaken & Stirred singles. Here's hoping we get a version of "Backseat Driver" sans electronics on LaLaLand's new version of Tomorrow Never Dies...

Yes, I agree. This is what happened with a few Bond cues by David Arnold, e.g. with "Ice Palace Car Chase" where the electronic percussion stems are not in the film version at the beginning of that track either.

LLL are doing Tomorrow Never Dies? My absolute favourite Bond score ever and sorely in need of a fully fleshed out release! The bootleg version is pretty decent, but LLL's magic touch is just what's needed. I always enjoyed the use of electronics that Arnold started to use more and more with the Brosnan films, but TND was just pure symphonic joy and Bond at his best.

I have a feeling we'll see the remaining Brosnan era scores expanded. Hopefully Goldeneye included the Altman Tank Chase music. After that, I am guessing we'll start seeing new expansions of Barry era scores, probably starting with TMTGG. If nothing else, they'll at least pad out the Barry scores that already saw expansions in 2003, for instance Thunderball, which saw part of the score omitted to fit a single CD. I highly doubt we'll ever see Dr No or FRWL get expanded releases, as I'm skeptical the masters have even survived this long.

Personally my holy grails are all of the unexpanded Moore era scores.

Same here. Not only I would love to see an expanded TMWTGG, but also A View to a Kill, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Octopussy. Moonraker is wishful thinking but I doubt those master tapes will be found and we have to rely on a re-recording of the complete score if EMI finally gives the okay to Nic Raine for the cancelled project. Sad, because Moonraker is my favorite Barry score. Then there's For Your Eyes Only. I would love to see it properly sequenced with more stuff that wasn't on the older expanded edition and without the crossfades between the cues.

Though we haven't heard anything official from LLLR, I'm just making a guess about this as well. They're really going through the Brosnan era backwards, which *may* lead to GoldenEye, complete with the Tiger Helicopter cue, the Gunbarrel cue, the Contra Dam cue, and the John Altman Tank cue (I've probably missed a few cues, but those are the only ones I know so far that are missing at the moment. Perhaps the film versions of "The Experience of Love" and "GoldenEye" might show up too, though Tina Turner already released the film version via her single way back in 1995 and had since been remastered for the compilation "Best of Bond...James Bond: 50 Years - 50 Tracks").

Since LLLR is doing great with classic stuff (Land of the Giants being one of them), I would love to see "Thunderball" getting the treatment it deserves with the cue that plays when Fionna is driving fast or the cue that plays when Bond is telling Domino about what happened to her brother.

This wishful thinking also leaves out the two Dalton scores. Licence to Kill still hasn't gotten a proper expanded edition, despite the original CD having some bulk of the score, but missing a lot of great cues such as the cue where Bond gets into the pool with Pam and the casino music.

The one unreleased cue from GoldenEye no one ever talks about is the tension buildup that should be at the end of "Fatal Weakness". It plays as the train explodes and when Boris blows up the pen. It's a great little buildup and I would love to see it released.

The Experience of Love in the film is purely an edit of the album track. GoldenEye, however, is a special mix and is not the same as the single version. Although the single has the film ending, the mixing is different in at least one spot (and the bass line is slightly different). Still, if all we ever got was the single version on an expansion, I'd still be pretty happy :)

Awesome. Wish OP put up a detailed description of the editing process and what was done to the cue to make it the film version.

I'm not sure if the YouTube user intended to present this as being legit but if they are, to start with Backfire is an album track title and not a cue, so that should be the first clue that this is fan edit. The car chase sequence in the film, as I understand it, consists of three cues:

- Palazzo Escape/Chase 1
- Rome Chase 2
- Rome Chase 3

I've only played it once but the version uploaded to YouTube appears to be a simple looping/cutting job using the Backfire track as the main source, augmented by some Blu-ray or DVD rips. For instance, the opening appears to be a loop of the same 4-bar motif, maybe taken from the Blu-ray, before it cuts straight to 0:23 of the album track. I hear some fairly wet brass between 1:40 and 1:45, the former of which is missing the first couple of milliseconds and fades in too quickly; these sound like recordings done with more distantly-placed mics, implying they are rear channel 5.1 or 7.1 rips. Furthermore, it is presented as one long track when it should be three pieces of music.

In short, if you bring the YouTube audio into a DAW and lay is against the album track you can see where looping has occurred to make it seem longer (and where the additions are). It's certainly a lot better than most fan edits, but even the mastering appears to match the album track so I am inclined to think it is not legit.

Having said all of that, Spectre is the score I am least familiar with so some of my observations may be incorrect!

There's an article stating why Kendall omitted the skate waltz. Sad, because it's pretty much right up there with "Circus, Circus" from Diamonds are Forever:

5. Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?
Sung by Nina Wild [sic] (note: her name is actually credited as Nina on the recording but her name is Nina van Pallandt.)

The most hated song in the Bond canon— although recently supplanted by Madonna— it actually sounds much better now that it’s been remixed and re-equalized. There was a second source cue at the Swiss town, which we did not include. It has two parts: an oompah-oompah part and a more lyrical string line (what fans call the “skating” music), and it is used several times. Barry did write and record it, but I figured people loathed “Christmas Trees” so much, I wouldn’t dare give them more “oompah” music.

Yes I’m not sure what the real audio quality is on that track. It’s so long since I worked on it I can’t even remember where I got it from. I don’t think I ripped it from the movie audio, but I did do a fair bit of trimming and looping on it to try and replicate how it features in the movie.

Bond movie music has been instrumental (see what I did) in propelling even the lesser entries in the movie catalogue to a level of entertainment that many people find quite enjoyable. While "A View to a Kill" has some elements that are very cring-ey (I'm sure you can offer your own thoughts on which elements I mean) the music (orchestral as well as vocal) helps the viewing experience tremendously. While not every main title song intended for radio airplay is a winner, I certainly am glad that McCartney forced the issue and demanded that he be allowed to perform his own song for "Live and Let Die", despite some "suits" being wary. But, new Bond meant some new approaches. And on it goes...

AVTAK had the cheesy electric guitars but otherwise it's a great score. I wish it had none of the guitar. Really dates it to '85, along with the opening title sequences which look an 80s cosmetics ad.

I like the electric guitars and Gidea Park's cover of 'California Girls' in the teaser. Sure it's cheesy but that's part of the charm of it imo. It's light 80s entertainment and not meant to be taken seriously. We have real thrillers like 'The Osterman Weekend' for that ;)

I reckon Licence to Kill is ready to go. I think my old edit was pretty decent, given the sources, so I don't think redoing it will help much. Same for Moonraker, I think. The Spy Who Loved Me is proving to be the toughest.

License to Kill (or originally License Revoked) has always been one of my favorites due to Dalton's performance. Unfortunately, it would take years for many movie goers to appreciate that style of Bond. At last the Craig movies are allowing the character to come closer to Fleming's original profile. I am hopeful of getting a link to the music...

I hope so too (or maybe Intrada), because I am sure now that there is enough funds to transfer 24-track tapes of music. Perhaps Kendall might reconsider or give it to Bulk instead, since Bulk is amazing with the Bond remasters so far. My dream TSWLM CD is a two CD with disc one being the film presentation and disc two being the LP re-recording.

However, it seems to me that Bulk wants to get rid of the Brosnan films and we might see Tomorrow Never Dies this Christmas and perhaps the next one is GoldenEye because of the 25th anniversary of that film in 2020.

For "Moonraker", I know that the film tacks on a few Classical scores, such as Johann Strauss II's "Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, op. 214" during the gondola scene (too bad there's no information as to which recording did Lewis Gilbert used), Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Overture (again, I don't know which recording did Lewis Gilbert used) and Elmer Bernstein's main theme for the film, "The Magnificent Seven" (this is definitely Bernstein for sure and not a re-recording).

There's also Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra, op. 30" with the hunting horn and the door playing Williams' "Tones" from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", but these are more in-joke, because of the whole Bond in Space theme.

Actually, that's a re-recording, no question about that. The arrangement is pure Barry, and the music is perfectly tailored for the onscreen action.

I forgot to mention, in TSWLM, the Lawrence of Arabia music was also re-recorded for the film, as it segues naturally into the music for the boat ride.

I just hope that these LLLR expanded Brosnan Bonds will open doors for the others (either by LLLR, Quartet or Intrada, though I don't trust the latter because of what they've did to Barry's "Legend of the Lone Ranger" despite the fact that Twilight Time already found the isolated score...). For me, I just want these to be in a great expanded form:

The Spy Who Loved Me (Disc 1: Score Presentation, Disc 2: Remastered Re-Recording LP)
Moonraker (planned Nic Raine re-recording as the recording sessions are lost or probably thrown away, who knows...)
For Your Eyes Only
Octopussy
A View to a Kill
The Living Daylights
Licence to Kill
GoldenEye
Tomorrow Never Dies

If Nic Raine is going to re-record Moonraker, he might as well have a stab at the first three scores too.

Well if people buy these then yes, I would imagine. I still went ahead and brought TWINE even though I'm not keen on the film or score. I do enjoy Come in 007... and Body Double but the rest is meh. In fact I find all of Arnold's pre-credit music top draw. Fortunately we now have the gun barrel and bank escape plus a nice bonus of demo tracks sung by Arnold who can hold a note but I find myself reaching for DAD still. Its a great score to drive to IMO. Love the cuban music and about 75% of that score. Doesn't lack in Bond theme either which is always a good thing.

ummm....Moonraker being lost and Davout etc. That has been put to bed. In Burlingame's book he goes as far to confirm the tapes were ferried to London by Dan Wallin for mixing and dubbing. Even if they are lost or are in a place where they shouldn't be, who's to say there isn't a dup? or at worst, take it from the multi track dialogue/effects/music.

The score can be released, but also as Burlingame states, EON own the rights to all the session masters. If they want to release them, then they will. They need to get on it though, something else we know from Lucas Kendall is that the tapes are degrading... some 2 track 1/4" Thunderball dups were so bad he reverted to the 30th anniversary LP master for part of the 2003 release.

I need to get that Burlingame book sometime. Sounds quite fascinating.

Yeah, if there's a duplicate tape of the Moonraker sessions, then that shouldn't be a problem (I believe these duplicates helped in making the newer sound mixes for the Lowry remastering of the Ultimate Bond/Bond 50 DVD/blu-rays). Perhaps a big Bond box set from LLLR would be nice, just like what LLLR did for John Williams' Harry Potter scores last year. Problem is that they might have to do Barry, Hamlisch, Conti, and Kamen Bond, as George Martin's Bond is the reason why we didn't have "The Man with the Golden Gun" in the first place. But like you said, EON owns all the rights and if they want to release them, then they will. It just has to take LLLR to get the "okay" from them to get started on it.

Hi all, I recently purchased the La La Land soundtrack of The World Is Not Enough and must say that it's rather good. The audio quality is excellent and it's brilliant to finally get a lot of the missing cues from the original soundtrack.

I've attempted to create an 'ultimate' version of the soundtrack. It's not that different to the LLL version, but features the correct length version of the main title of the movie. I also cut the gunbarrel as an individual cue as I like to have those separately. I put in the correct version of the end title sequence (which I think was sourced from the original expanded version on here), plus the bonus versions of the main title (album version, UNKLE remix etc). I think it's probably the most extensive version of the soundtrack I can get for now.

Will you guys have a look and let me know if there's anything you think is missing? Apologies for the poor screen grab - it's difficult cutting together several pages from iTunes.

Also I can't for the life of me embed the image here so here's a link:

Would be good to have your feedback!

Yes I believe it is the film edit of the main title. I can't remember if it's something I got from this forum or it's an edit I did myself comparing the BluRay with the album version and making the appropriate edits. I've done it on quite a few of the titles which are subtly different to the LP versions (OHMSS, Moonraker, Another Way To Die). Afraid I've only got it as an mp3.

The film version of Orbis Non Sufficit was done in the dub; Arnold's intended version is on the LLL set. Neil S. Bulk commented on this a while ago:

"Our tapes had one take marked "End Credits". It was the very last thing on the tapes. These are the intended end titles. It sounds like the opening in the film was replaced with something from "Tomorrow Never Dies". We couldn't do that."

I suggest switching Track 51 and Track 35 on your set, denoting the latter track as the "film version" to include as part of your bonus tracks.

Additionally, it's not entirely possible to create the film version of the Garbage title song by just cutting down the album version, as the two mixes are different with different orchestral overdubs and a couple of special multi-track edits. However, cutting down the album version to match the film version's length is an actual version of the song (commercially unreleased), entitled The World is Not Enough (Short Mix), so you may want to rename your Track 6 to reflect this.

I find it super hard to believe that Orbis Non Sufficit was the real End Credits for TWINE - it's cut up so abruptly in places, i'm like, "was the real version?" thankfully the one used in the film with the TND intro was better.

THE SPY WHO LOVED ME has been added.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for this, but I am not really happy with how it turned out. This was the hardest of the lot to compile given the lack of source material and its quality; the commercial album is clearly a far better presentation of the main elements of the score. However, for completion's sake, this poor man's expanded edition is now available for those who want to hear selections of the music as presented in the film.
