Plus, it's quite bad. Easily the worst Bond score, unless you want to count the television version of Casino Royale. Or maybe James Bond Jr.

It's true that EON films are the Bond canon, but, on terms of music, I always consider Never Say Never Again and Casino Royale (1967) part of the Bond Score Music heritage. In fact, even Jon Burlingame, in his recommended book "The Music Of james Bond" includes both movie soundtracks as part of Bond music.
Casino Royale (1967) has been published pretty complete ('though in mono), but Never Say Never Again is not complete so far. The Silva CD includes music not heard in the film, and lacks portions of music heard in the film. It's a real pity people like you doesn't consider Never say Never Again worthy of your attention. But it's your choice, and perfectly respectable.

People like me? What does that mean, exactly?

If it's classic Bond music (i.e. pre-2006 reboot) and it ain't John Barry, I am not really interested. Barry's music has a magical sound. NSNA might be a decent score, but it doesn't interest me at all.

Don't misunderstand me, please. "People like you" means "people who's able to offer the rest of us some complete/expanded/extended, edited and chronologically ordered Bond scores", which I'm not, to my embarrassment. ;-)
Sorry if that's not what you have understand.
NSNA is certainly a decent score, but a below-par one if compared to any Barry's score. But it's more satysfying when listened out of the film, 'cause the movie producers don't treat it as it deserved, with multiple re-editings and last minute changes.
But it's true: anything by Barry or Arnold is far better than NSNA (IMHO).

Thank you KaFaraqGatri - outstanding resource. You deserve a medal.

Would you consider a request? The film version of Bond '77 varies between a couple of its uses and is rather different from the arrangement off the OST. I'm particularly keen to hear a clean version of the theme that runs under the Lotus/helicopter chase (shortly after Jaws manages to escape crashing through the roof of a house). It's got some great disco strings but it's hard to hear everything going on musically as there's a lot of engines/screeching tyres/gunshots etc.

I'd be eternally grateful of you could isolate that short piece.

Here's hoping.

I think KaFaraqGatri once remarked he tried to do so, but simply he couldn't get anything, sadly each segment of the film you mention is full of sfx which cannot be deleted or edited in order to have the music only. Let's hope someday they release the complete score of The Spy Who Loved Me as well as those of the other classic Bond films.

My understanding from Lukas Kendall's interviews at the time of the expanded re-issues about 10 years ago (really? that long?), was the tapes for SPY do still exist but that the 24 track tapes would've taken too long to re-master in the time they were given for all the re-issues. That's why they stopped at Live and Let Die, though Golden Gun was considered/attempted even, but the later scores were more complex to remaster. Also, another reason why no SPY expanded re-issue has happened is because Marvin Hamlisch did not want it to occur, preferring the re-recording he did for the OST. With his passing that potential obstacle would be out of the way (sad that it often takes the composer's death that allow these releases to occur, rather than us getting to congratulate them for it in their lifetime, by being able to hear the actual music clean).

No, it was a cost issue - it would have been very expensive to transfer that particular recording.

I believe work began on LALD and then Kendall realized that TMWTGG had actually been an option, but he didn't have the budget to do it. Something along those lines. If he had had the choice, we says he would have preferred to do another Barry score but alas it was too late.

Interesting that it comes down to budgets (notwithstanding Hamlisch's misgivings - now possibly moot)

Frankly, I'd be happy to spend a few hundred quid ( Ok - realistically a couple of grand all in )on transferring the 24 track masters onto a hard drive out of my own pocket.

Put the tracks into shape in pro-tools at my leisure and mix at a decent studio with a good engineer in a few days. (Another 2 or 3 grand maybe.

Yes, soundtrack albums were a different game back then. A lot of old scores were specially re-recorded, so with Hamlisch's passing and the host of indie labels doing great releases now, it would be nice to think the entire Bond could be revisited and expanded. Some of the old scores are in need of remastering and expansions. I cannot believe no one at EON is interested. It's so disappointing.

THE Tracks NOT Taken

Yeah, yeah, yeah—where’s Moonraker, and so on. If five of the Bond soundtracks could be done properly, why not all the others? The answer: time and money, and in some cases, lack of master elements. Master tapes to the first three films—Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger—are not at EMI’s Abbey Road vaults in London, where most of the expanded Bond material was kept. (The four additional cuts on the Goldfinger CD come from the British LP master.) I would presume they are lost. Moonraker is missing because it was recorded in Paris—maybe the tapes are still in France. A View to a Kill was recorded in London, but the tapes are not at Abbey Road for whatever reason. For Your Eyes Only and The Living Daylights were already expanded for the Rykodisc CDs. This leaves three titles that theoretically could have been expanded: The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and Octopussy. For Octopussy, there may be tapes of extra music at MGM in Los Angeles, but there was not time to evaluate them. There are 24-track tapes of The Spy Who Loved Me atAbbey Road, but I don’t know if these are for the film soundtrack or the LP re-recording; furthermore, 24-track mixes are very time-consuming and expensive. So we end up with only one title that missed narrowly: The Man With the Golden Gun. Originally, EMI was going to try to remix and expand both Live and Let Die and Golden Gun from the 16-track tapes. As the transfers were being done at Abbey Road, I was informed that the process was becoming far too expensive and time-consuming, so Golden Gun would not be done. Had I known we could only do one of the early Moores, I would have suggested the Barry score rather than the George Martin one—but I didn’t, so we couldn’t. The only other thing that fell by the wayside due to a lack of time and money was the tank chase from GoldenEye (the Bond theme arranged by John Altman), which was recorded on fancy modern digital tape that required expensive equipment to transfer. So that’s the true story. —L.K.

Late to the party on this, but:

What trick did he apply to the piece of "Bond 77" that occurs underwater? He got that piece out perfectly clean, and it too had LOUD SFX of the submarine/Lotus hitting the bad guys.

I would really like to see his best take at the 2 missing pieces: The Ski Chase (which should include the pause and the Union Jack...what good is the Union Jack by itself?) and the Motorcycle/Car/Helicopter chase. LOVE the music behind the motorcycle sidecar missile launch!

Even if not perfect. The version I made myself has very intrusive SFX, as I have limited skills.

I appreciate your work very much. I have just spent the last day trying to learn eac3to.exe to rip the DVD properly, to see if the surround tracks possibly contain the score. Complicated stuff, to the noob. I have much of your work yet to review, but loving it so far.

Those two tracks are basically the final pieces of the puzzle for my Bond music search. Well- them and the music in FRWL when Bond steals the flower truck..

Hey lads, I just finished watching Skyfall and was wondering if KaFaraq's version was complete, or are we still missing cues?

EDIT:
Based on observations, I think we're only missing the film version of Quartermaster (where Q tries to hack Silva's computer).
Not too sure, that's why I said I think.

There's two more I believe; The cue where Silva gets captured and when the Bullets get analyzed after Bond is deemed fit to return for duty.

I also think there was a missing drum insert before Silhouette that the album didn't have (it's barely 5 seconds, but still).
I loved Skyfall tbh, I was actually expecting to hate it considering QoS was as bad as DAD.

I really liked Skyfall also. While I did actually expect to like the film, what really surprised me was how much I liked the score. Since I am a REALLY big fan of Arnold's scores for CR and QoS, I was expecting to be let down. Needless to say I was completely wrong! Casino Royale is still my favorite film (and score) of the three, but Skyfall is still and excellent addition imo.

I surprisingly loved Newman's score after I finished watching it. I mean I liked it before, but didn't think it fit a Bond movie till I watched it.
I love Arnold's scores (possibly except for QoS) but if he comes back for another one, it'd be awesome.

I'm on the same boat with you guys. I just feel the need to mention that, rather than reiterate my love for Arnold's scores and my newfound love for Newman, oops too late.
The whole film brought something special, and not just the score; cinematography, direction, and other aspects.

First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH KaFaraqGatri for bringing this thread to existence! I've never been happier to find such a complete film score for the James Bond series :D

'Escape From Palmyra' appears to be missing from the NSNA score. By the looks of things, only released on the Japanese LP. By any chance, would it be possible for someone to upload the track from this LP?

The LALD Blu-ray 5.1 mix uses the never-before-released quadrophonic stereo mix of Live and Let Die.
Im surprised it wasnt on the UE DVD as that is when a company called Mi Casa (http://www.modernhometheater.com/virtualtours/micasastudios/) were commissioned to remix the first 9 Bonds from mono to 5.1. I havent come across any official information that describes what changes were made for the blu rays, although there have been a few video changes like the brightness correction on LALDs main title itself.

Just thought I would let people know that the Music and Effects tracks for Dr. No and Goldfinger are available here:

Dr. No: http://www.the007dossier.com/007dossier/file.axd?file=/2013/05/Dr-No-Music-Effects-Track-AC3-1ch-48kHz-DELAY-0ms.AC3

Goldfinger: http://www.the007dossier.com/007dossier/file.axd?file=/2013/05/Goldfinger-Music-Effects-Track-AC3-1ch-48kHz-DELAY-0ms.AC3

Its very nice of someone to extract those tracks and commentaries from the early Criterions for the sake of preservation.

I ran though the parts of unreleased Goldfinger score and it struck me that there would be couple of clean pieces that could be sourced from this with little to no tweaking.

Theres The best place in town cue (about 30 secs) which has a very sexy saxophone and ends with a cheeky 4 honks! I didnt make the connection until I played just this part separately.
-Did you use some music from a different part for the movie, KFG? as it sounds much more romantic, perhaps the end titles?

Theres also a cue at the end of the golf game when Bond plants the tracker (about 53 secs). Although it has tweeting birds throughout so I dont know what peoples thresholds are with SFX. Same with a cue later on at the stud farm which has a lot of horse background foley. It is a nice slow waltz version of the main title (about 75 secs).

The end of the car chase has an exciting cue (about 44 secs) but Id imagine the gunshots and crash in the middle will make it near impossible.

The other cleaner part is when Oddjob returns from the pressing engagement (about 70 seconds).

There might be some hope for the presidential music as well (about 40 sec) as the final repeated phase that has the aeroplane sound could be replaced with the previous part.

All in all, theres about 10 minutes of unreleased music from Goldfinger

It was, I used to own it :)

There are some errors and some fixes. You won't find anything official because EON are standing by their releases, sadly.

I've had the Goldfinger Criterion for a while and thought about putting a special Goldfinger edit here, after some restoration work.

I’ve spent what seems to be a few hours tracing through all the pieces of music from Dr No using the Criterion music/effects only track. I’ve done it with a few of the films whilst looking through Burlingame’s book and Lucas’s annotations, it’s become quite an interesting exercise in discovering where parts were meant to be used and which of the more significant pieces remain unreleased.

There’s about 15 minutes of orchestral underscore unreleased from Norman’s 2nd recording session (17 cues)- other source music, cues and the Bond theme recording also make up about 15 minutes as heard in the film. It totals to a hotch-potch of 30 minutes of music – not that much compared to the subsequent films

Harkit’s shameless “50th Anniversary” release offers up 3 tracks that could help piece together something more authentic, Bond Arriving Home (although shorter than heard in the film), Tarantula and Dr. No Visits James Bond's Bedroom. Clearly they did not use the Criterion track as there is a piece that runs for about 1:20 at Dr No’s aquarium and ends with the nod to the stolen painting. Its clean (apart from the hiss) because it’s predominately a dialogue scene.

I would imagine it would be tough to get much else off of this track. One of the longer pieces is Norman’s Interrogation of the Chauffer that actually uses his version of the Bond theme. I think it’s an interesting piece as he seems to use brass for it at a different tempo to Barry’s version. The music fight section seems to jump around a couple of times where the scene had censorship cuts.

There’s also a couple of curiosities with the track, apart from the Bond theme heard when he introduces himself, it is missing when it appears elsewhere in the film, as is Norman’s cue when he returns home. But when Bond is on his way to Miss Taro, the track called Jamaica Jazz (a slow version of Jump Up) is heard as Bond is driving, so it would appear at some point that piece was intended to be used there instead of the Bond theme!

COMING SOON: Goldfinger complete. Restored and remastered.

In FLAC? looking forward to it, either way. Will it include the extended version of Auric's Factory?

I have some suggestions for bonus tracks but I'll PM you so as not to ruin any potential surprises.

I've been scouring the music of Thunderball, cue by cue, both complicated and revealing at the same time. Obviously there were a few more cues than Kendal didn't let on within the remastered CD, but I would also say that was the case for even more cues than thought on the original LP.
There's plenty of cases where either the film versions are longer (presumably due to the album versions being trimmed to fit on 1 CD) or the album versions being longer because it contains unused music. Then there's the alternate versions, some released some unreleased and a couple of parts tracked in.
To hear the film version you would need one playlist and to hear the "composers cut" you would need another, and then maybe a couple of others that resembled a LP and Expanded playlist!

I don't know about everyone else but I find the differences interesting, no doubt the composers intention is preferable (and it usually contains more incredible music!) but its revealing to have in front of you "final cut" version and to see how it was changed for better or worse.

I was a bit bummed when I realized I mistook it for GoldenEye, but non the less, still rejoiced! XD

Might I add one request in your pursuit to your Goldfinger completion, KaFaraqGatri?
I was wondering if you can produce the longer version of the track called "Oddjob Throws Hat", it's the same one they used in the scene in Fort Knox vault when Bond acquired Oddjob's hat and used it to try taking Oddjob down. But this cue's duration lasted longer (10.6 seconds elapsed time to be exact) and that version is much more impactful.
If if it's not possible.., well, I won't regret that I didn't got the second chance to make such request. ;)

In a way, I wish it was GoldenEye. As much as I love John Barry's work (let's face it, he was the best of the Bond composers and knew exactly how to deliver), I think I would be much more ecstatic if Eric Serra's score was to get an expanded release than Goldfinger. I feel we were already blessed with the remastered edition from 2003.

For the skyfall soundtrack, does anyone have the track where Bond captures Silva?

Here's a link to the audio of that Silva's Capture video before it was taken down. It was pretty well done IMO.
Skyfall Complete Score-Silva's Capture.mp3 (http://www43.zippyshare.com/v/67551244/file.html)

There's a new version of Jon Burlingame's book coming out with a Skyfall chapter- so many interesting insights- I highly recommend.

I covered Dr No and Goldfinger a few pages back, and I've started to look through FRWL and Thunderball.
Some of the longer unreleased tracks in From Russia With Love are the film version of Spectre Island and Lelia Dances - also the film version. This was Barry's original attempt at the belly dance source music. Its nicely performed and sounds a lot more authentic than the album version. Would be great to have this memorable piece of music.

Another interesting piece that went unused is Death of Grant that is actually 3 cues. The 1st cue stops at 1 minute, that is used at a different part of the film. The 2nd cue is 23 seconds would have played as Grant was opening the briefcase. Its fun to play it against the DVD and see how Barry builds the tension - as soon as he says "put your hands back in your pockets" at the 1:32:07 mark. The start of the fight is then unscored until 1:34:01 when the 3rd cue (the remainder of the track) for 38 seconds kicks in...as the garrote goes around Bond's neck and he scrambles for the knife and theres a nice "hit" as the knife goes in.

Check out this where 'composer' cuts that went unused are matched up:

Hey, I'm a new user (clearly). I guess I, along with many others at the tail end of this thread, missed the boat on these. I'm sure many members out there have them downloaded but I can't believe they wouldn't share them. I've been a Bond fan all of my life thanks to my Dad who recently passed away. I've found myself watching the movies every night to cope. Unfortunately I have a long commute to and from work and I find my mind starts to wander to my father if I don't keep it busy. I have all the soundtracks but I'm getting bored with them. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone who has all the extended albums would be willing to help me out in getting them.

Hey guys, I didn't know where else to post this, but last night i got really bored and I ended up making a pretty much complete score for Skyfall. I've managed to locate other tracks that weren't officially released, etc.

I've renamed some of the tracks, too. The only two tracks that have SFX are 'It's Called Radio!' and 'With Pleasure!', I will try to upload it, but my internet is being really temperamental at the moment.

That's a pretty sweet playlist.

Are you able to zippyshare your versions of these 4 tracks?

12 Depleted Uranium Bullets 1:38
25 It's called radio! 0:50
49 International Trailer Music 2:29
50 Domestic Trailer Music 2:30

I believe KFG's latest release had a SFX free version of With Pleasure/End Credits.
I'm sure most of us could source the Charles Trenet & Animals tracks easily enough and then we'll all be able to have a 51 track version!

The Guy Farley/Ad music is here:

^I agree, it wasn't the most recognizable Bond score, but it didn't deviate as far as Goldeneye did. I have a hard time listening to Eric Serra's score to that movie... If anything at all, the synth music reminded me of something from the video game Deus Ex.

I really didn't mind Thomas Newman on SKYFALL, in fact, I actually enjoyed some of the cues--they fit well with the scenes in creating a general ambiance.

I agree with Serra and GoldenEye, though. I'm not that big of a GE fan BECAUSE of the soundtrack--the music is so awful it distracts me from the storyline.

Having been revisiting the Bond films lately, I am greatly looking forward to an updated front page for this forum. Really really wanting the expanded View to a Kill soundtrack/score.

I wonder if I'm in a minority for not minding some of the Goldeneye stuff? Maybe because I heard it in the game long before I listened to the original stuff, so i ended up enjoying it that way first lol.

I'm with you on A View to a Kill Hawkeye31!

I think the only decent and emotive theme from Goldeneye was the Archives/antenna array chase theme. Statues in St. Petersburg was also good in a haunting way.

I wonder if I'm in a minority for not minding some of the Goldeneye stuff? Maybe because I heard it in the game long before I listened to the original stuff, so i ended up enjoying it that way first lol.

You're not alone in this, I'll even go further as I'm also in the minority of loving Eric Serra's score of GoldenEye before I even knew the N64 game existed... The way he uses the instruments and even the syncs, it really pile-drives the essence of USSR whenever the scores are played during Bond's visit to mother Russia, like the Cold War still looms fresh around every crack from that time of that mission.
And those chilling suspense of a composition when time is running out, sounding almost like a steam-powered train slowly but surely speeding up until that timely demise!
Bloody hell, I'm still hoping we could finally get that track from the "self-destruct Tiger helicopter" without the FX from the film. (Forgive me Rafael 00_Agent, but I still appreciate it)
I mean sure it does has it's flaws and Serra did not stick to conventional/traditional means, but it still reeked with the essence of composition of Bond, James Bond.

Speaking about composition, I have finally concoct an improved version of the "Backseat Driver (BMW Escape)" track, mixing Kaf's and Rafael 00_Agent versions and willing to upload. But ever since Mediashare's site's redesign, I've been unable to do so. I just wanted to freely upload without any of the hogwash of signing up/download apps...
Any suggestions?

Yeah you're right. Apparently there's a cue where Silva escapes, which didn't make the FYC; it's a small cue less than a minute, I think.
After listening to the film version of Chapel Death, I'm glad we got an alternate on the official album; that string section really adds to that piece.
