Two days ago I stumbled onto this site. Being a Bond-fan since the very beginning of the film series, I have collected the music on various medias through the years. I thought I had everything you was able to get hold of. Boy, was I wrong.

Takehiro, you are the grand master of Bond soundtracks. You've made an old man very happy.

One of my earliest -- and fondest memories -- is of being a small child enraptured by a showing of Goldfinger on television. Ever since, I have been hooked on 007, and John Barry was (and always will be) a massive part of that.

Rest in peace, Mr. Barry, and thanks for all the entertainment.

Unavoidable but sad, the creator of the James Bond Sound is no more. We will miss him. I was eleven years old when Goldfinger played on the radio for the first time. That opened my mind for something quite unique. (And I don't mean Shirley Bassey.) And it's stayed open ever since. John Barry was a giant. A giant on who's shoulders many filmcomposers have been standing. Apart from his eleven Bond soundtracks, he composed several unforgettable scores. We all have our own favorites, so I won't name any of them here. We know which ones they are. I can see them all; Max Steiner, Franz Waxman, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, and now John Barry, sitting there in heaven, digging each others music. Have fun, guys. We down here will try to make the best of what you all left for us to enjoy, over and over again.

That sucks. I really liked his music (still like). I love Moonraker. I also really enjoyed a lesser known soundtrack of his, Disney's The Black Hole.
I just love the way he can carry a theme in such a slow tempo. It's riveting! It really adds depth to whatever's on screen. It gives a demanding presence to any character or space ship. It's like action music in slow motion, beautifully!

KaFaraqGatri
02-01-2011, 02:21 AM
Totally, his slower action scoring is amazing. Everyone refers to him as being an introspective composer and I totally think that comes thru in his music. His music speaks to me because of that.

He really set the style and the glamour of the James Bond score, with the main theme from OHMSS, and several other tricky stunts in his music, he set a very HIGH bar for other composers to reach for, but never attain!

I can't believe John Barry is gone forever. I feel he never really got the credit he deserved. Especially concerning James Bond Theme. Monty Norman maybe did come up with the original idea, but I'm convinced it wouldn't have been such an enduring piece of music, without JB's ingenious arrangment. Well even though John Barry Prendergast has left planet earth, his spirit lives on through his immortal music. I don't care if it sounds bombastic. Rest in peace John Barry. Your music helped me see the beyondness of things.

I can't believe John Barry is gone forever. I feel he never really got the credit he deserved. Especially concerning James Bond Theme.

He scored 11 out of 22 James Bond movies. I'd say he got all the credits he (rightfully) deserved and then some. Not only creating a music style for Bond but also to an whole worldwide generation of spy movies during the sixties and following decades. After Ian Fleming, and the actors that portrayed Bond on the screen, he and Albert Brocolli must have been the most recognized names that a person knows from the James Bond universe.

As for the James Bond theme, I think we all know who was the really responsible of it, despite of what the court has decided. For granted that Norman is the autor of the song that has one from the two main phrases of the James Bond theme, but the orchestrations are Barry through and through. If Barry wouldn't be involved, I doubt the theme would last to today and be so popular as it is.

Hgo. Take already uploaded A View to a Kill. From what I know what he's uploaded is all he has. He doesn't have complete scores to all the films. Just expanded scores. But man I want that sequence as well. To have the complete version of Snow Job would rock.

Yea the full version of Fight At Stacey's House would be great too. There's DVD rips of it out there. (I did some myself) BUT the problem is when you rip it from the DVD and remove the vocals/sfx it takes away the electric guitar too. Which is half of the reason why that sequence rocked.

It wasn't up to him. As a matter of fact, Kendall was going to expand The Man with the Golden Gun, but ran out of time and money. The Spy Who Loved Me wasn't expanded because it would have been too expensive. In the case of Moonraker, Octopussy and A View to a Kill, they couldn't find the masters.

mtjs

Well, if they re-release a score, I think it will most likely be The Man with the Golden Gun. The following may be a flimsy theory, but here it goes: as we know, the gunbarrel music as heard in the expanded soundtrack of Diamonds Are Forever is missing the reverb present in the original mono track of the film; the same happens to be the case with the Ultimate Edition DVD. I'm not an expert, but I presume they used the soundtrack when creating the new 5.1 track for that edition. The soundtrack of TMWTGG doesn't include the gunbarrel, but it's easy to notice that once again, the gunbarrel in the audio track created for the Ultimate Edition is missing the reverb present in the mono track, a sign that a new stereo mix, created from the masters, may have been used. This mix may be lying in a vault somewhere, thus making a new release of the score a lot easier. There was a post in the FSM boards in which someone mentioned that, according to another post (which I couldn't find), the masters had indeed been used for TMWTGG. As I said, flimsy theory, but not out of the realm of possibility.

KaFaraqGatri

They wont spend a lot of money on one single Bond score. Theres no reason to release that one film from a marketing POV.

Honestly your best bet might be to just get a month account with FileSonic. Seeing as it's being used as the host for a lot of soundtracks now a days anyways. You'll get pretty good download speeds and unlimited downloads. There's also no waiting time either. You can have it set to direct download too. So once you click the link it just goes right to downloading rather than having to go through there home page. I had an account with filesonic, but it just recently expired.

lol i replied to the first thraed you brouth this up in. if firefox has add-ons like ad-blocker, ghostery, or anything else that blocks unwanted junk, it might be preventing you from seeing the input box. or it could be if you have any "download' tools or accelarators installed.
run firefox in safe-mode to disable all add-ons.

The best thing would be if someone could send a virus or something

What kind of an awful thing to say is that?

Not quite up there with scooping their eyeballs out with a spoon, or splitting their bones open with a wedge and sledge hammer, or maybe taking a belt sander to their knee caps, or even using a soldering iron to open up their sinuses. Indeed, it isn't as bad as nailing their feet to the floor, covering them in Ragu spaghetti sauce and unleashing the rabid weasels, marmots, wolverines, dingoes, and starving Ethiopian babies.

In keeping with the theme of this thread, perhaps they should be secured spread eagle on a platform, while a portly German explains to them that they are looking at an industrial laser which emits an extraordinary light, not to be found in nature. It can project a spot on the moon... or at closer range, cut through solid metal. And then.... then.... when they say "Do you expect me to talk?", the German can bark out a laugh and say "No, I expect you to die."

That might be more awful.

Maybe not.

Hey gang, in honor of this excellent thread (Thanks to much, Takehiro!!), I'd like to share some Cover Artwork I've made for these albums. No offense to Takehiro, since his cover art is also fantastic, but I am pretty obsessed with covers, so I am constantly making alternate art in Photoshop for fun.
Attached are links to covers for (the ones I've downloaded for myself so far):
- The Living Daylights - John Barry
- License to Kill - Michael Kamen
- Tomorrow Never Dies - David Arnold
- Die Another Day - David Arnold

These are all in 600x600 pixels, which is my favorite size for iTunes, not too big, not too small. Although if someone wants the original sizes, I could upload those as well (their size depends merely on whatever artwork I was able to find online). Anyways, enjoy!

These are NOT complete so you should put them down as expanded. Or else as they spread, people will think they are getting stuff they arent. Just a reminder!

Oh and its LICENCE spelt the English way, not License with an S :P

Which is the font you used for "Original Expanded Score Composed etc etc"?
This cover for TND u made is actually the official one for the Definitive Collection of Original Bond OST's if u don't know... it looks good, but Tak's TND cover looks fab. U could make TWINE and GE. =D
Nevertheless, good job.

Thanks for the comments, thoughts are always appreciated. The font I used is called "007 GoldenEye", just do a google search and you will find it for free. As to similarities to covers from past releases, it's certainly possible. Granted, I'm in no way trying to copy someone else's work, but I just deal with the artwork I can find, and sometimes a certain poster has already been used because it's the best, and I just add my own little twist to it, and try to find the best possible poster art i can find. In the case of TND and Living Daylights, I pretty much just used the standard poster and made some tweaks, with License to Kill, I actually combined two different posters for that movie, since I found it made a more colorful and dynamic image than either of them separately.
All that said, I'm in no way trying to negate other people's covers, simply offering some alternatives. As to your other requests, I will try to keep making more eventually, but can't guarantee they be up too soon--that said, definitely if and once I have some new ones, I'll post them here again!

Ah man you're killing me!

I was finally able to scrape up enough money to get the glorious 160gb iPod I'd been lusting over, and thus have now had a chance to listen to all of these. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Fantasticness! I must say my favorite parts of these have to be the instrumental versions of the title songs (though I was heartbroken to see that my favorite one, View to a Kill, did not have one). Also, where did those David Arnold pieces on OHMSS come from? Is this another album I have to track down?

I absolutely cannot wait for Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice! And now you're talking about expanded Zimmer stuff? Oh man. I have to ask, is there any chance of the Pirates of the Caribbean scores being included in that lot? If so you will rock my socks off even harder.

Thanks again!

You must be referring to Arnold cover of On Her Majesty's Secret Service found on his album, 'Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project'.

HI Takehiro,

First of all thanks a lot for your expanded Bond scores. I really appreciate your effort and your willingness to share them. I noticed though that in many of your expanded Bond OST's there are still many pieces missing which do appear in the movies. For instance, in A View to a Kill, Goldeneye, The World is not enough, For your Eyes only...my question is if you still have these missing cues somewhere or not. I guess everybody would be more than excited to hear the missing music on these great works.

THANKS!

I closely took a look at your corrected traclist, and if I suppress the unaivalable cues it seems that the order on the album is the same as the film order (only one exception: the prologue cue "Bond look-alike" which comes before the title song). This is quite strange I must say, because I don't understand why "That's my little octopussy" would come before "Bond meets Octopussy", and as far as I remember the Palace Fight take place long before the bomb chase.

"That's my little Octopussy" plays when Bond and Magda are in bed, long before "Bond meets Octopussy", which is heard when, well, Bond meets Octopussy. "The chase bomb theme" plays when Bond is in Germany, trying to get to the circus to defuse the bomb. After that scene, he returns to India, and "The palace fight" is heard, so there is no mistake.

It's just a simpler way of indexing created threads/pages without cluttering the DL/GD section.

Plus, it's more private.

Oh, he's definitely being rude -- he is just also trying to be cutesy with it so that he can feel as if he's the one being wronged if anybody bothers to call him on it. The old passive-aggressive schtick.

Its a little bit of fun, but it's also a (hopefully fitting) tribute to the late, great John Barry. Its not an expanded Bond film score, but it is James Bond music related. Ok moving on...

With the sad passing John Barry recently I wish that the next Bond movie soundtrack would be a tribute throwback to his style. David Arnold's work is great but I miss the feel of the Barry soundtracks. If Arnold would just plagiarize the heck out of his style for the next one with say, Allison Goldfrapp and maybe ties in some Cinematic Orchestra (think the album Motion). I just miss the old big band bond sound so much!

Anyone else agree or am I just stuck in the cold war?

I completely agree. I would love to see Barry's Bond score style return. Such as Moonraker or A View to a Kill styles. Sadly, this wont happen because everything right now is shit. Noise and cacophony wins over melody or talent these days. It would be great if big commercial productions have amazing and memorable music. And they do. In Japan, just not US.

wow Goldfrapp! I didn't see that one coming and now that i'm thinking about it I believe you are absolutely right. Excellent choice. I love her song 'Utopia'. She is certainly up to the task of doing a Bond song, and probably with much better results than of the latest songs.

I loved Giacchino's score for The Incredibles...

Well yeah- If anyone wanted Michael Giacchino to do a bond score, they should look at The Incredibles because it essentially IS a bond score.

Considering how the earliest trailers for The Incredibles featured music from OHMSS it's not hard to see where the inspiration came from- Michael said so himselfthat the Bond scores were a heavy influence. Hell some of the Incredibles tracks are dead ringers for bond music. Marital Rescue sounds almost just like Dawn Raid on Fort Knox, for example, Missile Lock is Count Down, New and Improved is... whatever they called the goldfinger laser music with a dash of oriental bond music added, Kronos Unveiled (my favourite) is Capsule in Space, and as for lithe or death... Bond Back in Action Again, anyone?

Well ... according to a guy I knew who knew John Barry he was approached to write the score for The Incredibles and asked to do a sixties style Bond score but after attempting some bits and pieces he declined and told the guy I knew that he was having great difficulty going back to that style.

Giacchino's score was perfect! For once he didn't have that mournful tone of the early Medal Of Honor (1997-2000) games...
I don't mind if he does Bond 23, I'd love to see what this man can do with Bond.
But I want Hans Zimmer to do Bond 23 mainly because... well... he's done almost everything but Bond... he's gone from doing Rain Man to Inception and The Lion King to Madagascar... and right now, if you consider, (with John Williams probably retired... I think...) Hans is THE best composer in the world right now.
