I read on FSM Board: Laserdisc Isolated Scores (
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=21123&archive=1) and on Expanded James Bond Scores - Page 3 - Bond Music Discussion - CBn Forums (
http://debrief.commanderbond.net/topic/52103-expanded-james-bond-scores/page-3) about a laserdisc with an isolated music only track for 'Live And Let Die'. Apparantly the volume goes up and down depending on dialogue and scoring of scenes respectivly. Anyone knows if this one is available for downloading somewhere? I may be extremely nerdy now but I'd really like to have the full film version of 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee/New Second Line' along with the full score if available.

I've just come across this great thread, and I'm not seeing all of the links in the opening post. Are the expanded scores for all of the movies available? (People in comments talk about downloading TND for example, but I don't see a link for it.)

There were old versions posted back in 2010/2011 but they were deleted and new links are being posted as and when it is possible. All currently available editions are linked on the first page. Hope that helps :)

The Laserdisc isolated score track is edited, with the start, end, and even the middle of some cues cut or faded out entirely. Some of them end abruptly due to editorial decisions made for the final mix (for example, Bond to New York cuts off as soon as the plane comes on screen). In other words, it's a 'film mix' rather than a 'complete score'. The 2003 CD release is a much better representation of the music, and even includes unused pieces that never made it into the film (and thus are not present on the isolated score track at all).

Thanks for the info! Does that mean 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee/New Second Line' is severly edited? I know you don't seem to like that track much but since it's the one I'm mostly interested, I'll ask anyway :)

I know. Just watched it recently. I'm always interested in 'film mixes' regardless. Do you know of someone who might know how to get it as a mp3, wav or flac? Maybe a long shot but I like some of that old jazz music and apparently I'm not the only one on the forum :)

Thanks for Writing's On The Wall. As for the song I quite like it. It's different, moody, melancholic. I can just imagine the title sequence to go with it (lots of dark blues and blacks), but am wondering how they'll edit it to make it fit, time-wise.
For me, not every Bond theme needs to be bombastic and Bassey-esque. For every Goldfinger, there needs to be a From Russia With Love, for every You Know My Name, there should be a Writing's On The Wall. IMHO.
It also sounds like a song that could be woven into a score - please note Thomas Newman.

The film mix will be, as far as I can make out, like Skyfall - a mix of the radio edit and the album version. The radio edit is cleverly curtailed in a couple of spots. It will be interesting to hear it come release time. This is definitely a throwback in style to something more melancholy, like You Only Live Twice.

I'm long time Bond Fan but I could never embrace the Craig films... I also hated the second half of Die Another Day so that doesn't mean what was done before Craig was always perfect (far from it). For example one of the true assets of Casino Royale is the title song 'You Know My Name' a truly fantastic Bond Rock song.
SkyFall also had a lot of merits as a Bond song...
Listening to this I can only say that I didn't know it was possible to have a Bond song worse than 'Another Way to Die'...
It is truly horrible to me as a Bond song and even as a stand alone song there isn't much to it.
I cannot believe they have greenlighted this to go along a movie that is expected to get a Billion Dollars in revenue...

It was funny on Comic Relief when they did the sketch about Daniel Craig having a little girl's voice. It's NOT funny when they do the same gag on the title song! WTF were they thinking? I have high hopes for "Spectre" to be a great Bond movie but my confidence is a little rattled if the producers and director chose this feeble attempt as the best option for the title theme. What other questionable choices have been made? I'm still 90% confident, but that's down a fair bit from where I was before hearing this song!
IMO it's not a matter of being a more mellow song rather than the big bombastic style usually associated with Bond; "Nobody Does It Better" is usually ranked as one of the very best Bond themes ever and that is very gentle. But "Nobody Does It Better" has a strong vocal performance to hang the gentle song on, plus it was the work of a top composer and a top lyricist, and unfortunately "Writing's on the Wall" has none of that. It sounds like nothing more than a decent amateur performance of a rather bland song.
News stories recently were reporting that Daniel Craig was pushing for Adele to be brought back; I bet it was after he heard this song!
The movie will no doubt feature a cutdown version of the song so I won't have to suffer the full version ever again, and a dazzling titles sequence should distract significantly from the song anyway. It will do it's job in as far as it will be popular for five minutes and get the movie some publicity, but it does pain me to say that IMO the new Bond song is destined to join entries like "Another Way to Die" and "Moonraker" at the bottom of all future "best 007 song" polls.

I went to read the threads on the MI6 forum...
Discarding the personal hate attacks on Sam Smith (REALLY not the point since we're talking about a song, some people should get a life), a lot of the posters recommended multiple listens and that's what I did. Also a lot of them said the instrumental is spectacular for Main Titles.
So I listened a few times and.... I still find the song horrible, disjointed and not building to anything. The Falsetto is beyond words : nothing like Bond... not even good in the song by itself.
The instrumental is Bondian no doubt but could not feature as Main Titles anyway... On a romantic scene yes I agree... Main Titles of a Bond movie : are you kidding ?
Again the movie is expected to make a billion Dollars : what were they thinking about...

My first impressions of the song: I have to agree with everyone else, the background instrumental is strong gut they should have found a better artist. There is just something about his voice that just doesn't gel well with what they were trying to do. I will have to give it a few more times before I pass final judgement but for right now, I am just not feeling it.
What are everyone's thoughts on the song? It really has had a lot of backlash from Bond fans, it seems.
I think the song itself has great potential, and I don't really have any issue with Sam Smith's vocals... until he goes full-on falsetto during the chorus. It doesn't help that those parts are also nearly acappella, they really take me out of the moment. The lyrics are probably the biggest stumbling block, though. Smith claims that he wrote them from Bond's point of view, but I'm not getting that at all. He also claims that he wrote this in 20 minutes, and that I DO believe.
Overall, I think it's a good effort, with a few aspects that could easily be adjusted/corrected in a live performance or remix.

I've listen WOTW a few times in a row and for me it's a good song, it grows on me, but it's definitly not a Skyfall. But for all we know, we may be suprised with how it fits in Spectre. I know it's not a very populair opinion, but i do think that Madonna's DAD worked in the titelsequence so i will hold my breath for another month. ;-)

I don't know how different the actual instrumental sounds like, but until it's uploaded you could "suss" it out by putting the song into Audacity or GoldWave and have the vocals reduced. Not always a perfect vocal elimination, but one can get a fair idea of how the instrumentation sounds like.

Thanks for the upload. I didn't think it possible, but I found WOTW even more boring and bland than 'Skyfall'. I've disliked the path the Bond series have been taking both musically and filmwise since 'Licence To Kill' and this was the last nail in the coffin IMHO. I think WOTW would work better as an instrumental though, as written before.

Thank you KaFaraqGatri your work on these Bond scores is very much appreciated. TMWTGG and LTK are nuch better than the official releases. I'm not generally a huge fan of Sam Smith, but I do think he is well suited to soulful melancholy. Listen to his single from last year, "I'm Not The Only One" (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_-U6dcTEOg) and you'll see what I mean. Unfortunately, this song is too quasi-operatic for his voice; someone like Adele would have handled the same song with more finesse. Lyrically I don't really care; Bond songs have never been known for their poeticism, so for there to be no change here is no big deal really. But I do think these lyrics are rather more vacuous than some of the previous songs.
When Sam Smith was announced, I hoped for something a little more like "I'm Not The Only One", because as I say he does that sort of thing well. The backing track of "WOTW" is magnificent, though. There are elements of John Barry's late period but also a pleasant touch of Michael Kamen. Pity about that ending though; it's got no fun, no brass. Just Smith's yodel and that's it. Oh well, hopefully the film's better than the song! And as JorjickThis notes, the song may well work better in context.

While we're on the topic of Bond title songs, which Bond title songs is everyone's favorite? Here's mines (not in any order) :
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon
For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton (also, props for her being the only singer to be on the screen singing the title song)
Moonraker - Shirley Bassey
A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
The Living Daylights - a-ha
Licence To Kill - Gladys Knight
GoldenEye - Tina Turner
You Know My Name - Chris Cornell
Skyfall - Adele
Thunderball - Tom Jones
Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings
Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey
You Only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra
If we're going for instrumental, I love the title themes for On Her Majesty's Secret Service and From Russia with Love.

Bond fans, what's your favorite rejected Bond songs? For me it's these:
k.d. lang - Surrender (rejected from "Tomorrow Never Dies" and got shifted to the end credits.) This song is so superior to the Sheryl Crow song that was chosen. Nothing against Sheryl Crow, since I love her as well, but k.d. lang's voice really fits Bond and didn't deserve to be shifted to the end credits, IMO.
Dang it, chap! You picked one that was in my mind (and the only one). Like you said, Surrender should've been the opening theme for Tomorrow Never Dies, fits perfectly!
Now for my favourite title songs, this shall be a list (in no particular order)...
1. Gunbarrel and Main Titles (James Bond Theme part), by Monty Norman. You can't go wrong with that. XD
2. Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey, this was actually my first Bond title song exposure to the franchise!
3. You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra, back when I was little lad, being high on octane energy, slow and soothing musics never impressed me. But somehow this was one of the first few that captivated me to take things slow and saver the moment...
4. Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney & Wings, I love how it starts rather slowly tainted and moments after the bombastic BANG! BANGS! hits you following a feverish composition and to top it off, adding a melodramatic sway right in the middle. If that told me that this is how the 70's felt like, I'd want to join in that snazzy! X'D
5. The Man With the Golden Gun by Lulu. To me, this song made me envisioned at my young age that anything was on the table, don't care how outlandish it can be! lol
6. Nobody Does it Better by Carly Simons, I can't tell you how many times I listened to this song the double entendre literately shot over my head when I was a young lad, that is until I was old enough to understand it's true meaning, it made me embarrassed that I sang it a bunch of times before and at first, but soon afterwards made me understand and look at things from the opposite gender.
Hey KaFaraqGatri, I was wondering if we shall ever have the same full version that was performed "In Memory of Desmond Llewelyn "Q"?
7. A View to a Kill by Duran Duran, just for the composition alone, it's stark, stylish, driven, sexy, eat your heart out! And the "dance into the fire" lyric/part was like a cherry on top! DANGER!!!
8. The Living Daylights by a-ha, seriously, another one of those composition that felt like you were doing something something under the sheets, want to share with others close to me, but don't want to get caught in the process. And hearing "living daylights" in the song felt like it could be a scary situation! X'D
9. Licence to Kill by Gladys Knight, makes me feel like I just want to stay in the dark and keep it (anything really) to myself. Uhn!
10. GoldenEye by Tina Turner, in one word; seductive! Another by it's composition alone makes me feel I was falling in lust of something, just lurking in wait or have it pass by and yet be swayed to honing it, following afterwards. Deep in thoughts that I know it's something I shouldn't do, nonetheless makes me want to seek it even more. (I feel so weak)
(Hey, KaFaraqGatri. Apologies for being intrude, but even though you gave us the orchestral version of GoldenEye (which you titled "GoldenEye (Instrumental)"), is there any possible way you can recreate the original instrumental version of it (in it's original synthesizer glory)? I'd be much oozing in satisfaction (okay, that sounded dirty, sorry)).
11. The World is Not Enough by Garbage, you have to feel this in a woman's perspective to indulge this song (the antagonist, Elektra, if you will). Kinda makes you feel empowering in a sinister kind, like picture yourself walking down the streets in crowded pedestrians, knocking them down with yet a simple touch and even walking over them without a care in the world as in a cold-hearten b****. (Seems like I do have battle with my dark side) -_-'
12.You Know My Name by Chris Cornell, with this song, composition, lyrics and all together... makes me feel that you were put into a situation that what you think would be an easy passage to overcome, but at the end of that journey, you shall never be or feel the same as before and this set of chained emotions will tear you apart if you're out of your focus!
13. Another Way To Die by Jack White & Alicia Keys, straight to the point, walking with a chip on your shoulder, not looking back, emotionless gaze, eyes on the prize, make it happen at all cost! Finish the job.
Now I haven't seen the latest Bond film, so I can't comment on that, for now.
As for the instrumentals, I would go with "On Her Majesty Secret Service by John Barry". It's Bombastic, cracking with a sinister smile. Deliciously bombastic!
I want to give an honourable for "Die Another Day by Madonna", I'm not really fond of the pop genre, even though I'm secretly a Madonna fan (yes, quite a cunundrum I have :/ ), but surprisingly I actually enjoyed it.

Hold on a min, I was a bit irked that the Trailer track for Skyfall was not what I expected. But then I realized is the score for the teaser. So, you really didn't acquire the score thy trailer, I'm refering to this one here (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgr2syY_OU4). Hehe, seems like you overlooked it or you were unable to "resurrect" it. X'D

I have a question about the extended remix of A-ha's TLD, wich i hope someone has an answer. +/- 4 minutes into the extended remix i recently noticed a strange cut in the music. It's after the second chorus when the song goes into the instrumental break. Question is: does it belong there, is it part of the original mix? It's strange that I've never noticed it before, i've heard the version a thousand times, but now it's beginning to really bother me. Is it just me, or is it part of the official extended remix???
Hoping someone can help!!!
Update, on all youtube versions of the mix there are several strange cuts, is this official?? I don't remember this!!

For my favorite Bond songs and themes, mines are:
Flight Into Space (Moonraker)
Space Lazer [sic] Battle (Moonraker)
If You Asked Me To (Licence To Kill. Loved the original Patti LaBelle track and the Celine Dion cover)
Cable Car Chase (Moonraker)
Pam's Pick-up/Pam's Theme (Reprise) (Licence to Kill)
Welcome to Delhi (Octopussy)
Tank Drive Around St. Petersburg (Film Version arranged by John Altman. GoldenEye)
A Glowing Tribute (Diamonds are Forever)
Exercise at Gibraltar/A Real Man (The Living Daylights)
The Pyramids (Film Version w/choir - The Spy Who Loved Me)
Snow Job (A View to a Kill)
Stacey Attacks/Golden Gate Fight (A View to a Kill)
Where Has Everybody Gone (The Living Daylights)
If There Was a Man (The Living Daylights)
Golden Girl (Goldfinger)
Surrender - k.d. Lang (Tomorrow Never Dies)
007 (From Russia with Love)
We Have All The Time in the World (On Her Majesty's Secret Service)
From Russia with Love - Matt Monro
Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown? - Nina van Pallandt (On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I also loved Jackie DeShannon's cover too, which I've recently discovered today.)

[We] I really appriciate all your hard work so far, thanks!!
In the meantime i'm sorting out all my bond songs/mixes/versions etc. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but i'm confused with all versions of Chris Cornell's YKMN & some Skyfall versions. If someone could reply to this, then please!!
01- YKMN --> Main version (first version of the song released, the same as Pop Mix? If not what's the difference, i read somewhere about a grittier version?) 04.03??
02- YKMN --> Pop Mix (second version of the song, used in the music video? Original version?) 04.01
03- YKMN --> Orchestral Mix? (Cornell's version with additional orchestra by David Arnold?? Once again, what's the difference??) 04.03
04- YKMN --> Orchestral Edit (as seen in the title sequence in Casino Royale) 03.20??
Can someone shed some light on this, please!! And as for Skyfall:
01- SF --> Album/Original Version 04.48
02- SF --> Radio Edit 03.59
03- SF --> Title Sequence Edit (different than Radio Edit, as seen in Skyfall Movie)???

The film version is the opening of the single version, which then goes into an edit of the Radio Edit. From listening to both the radio edit and the single version of WOTW, I am assuming Spectre's titles will follow the same pattern. You heard it here first! ;)
I'm hoping so as well as I assume it'll only be available to UK listeners.
When you click Listen Now it says it's only available to UK listeners. But if you just enter a UK postal code, it works!

I've been fortunate enough to get a copy of the Spectre soundtrack and have been living with it for the past few days.
It really does feel like a step up from Skyfall and it's clear that Newman has become more comfortable working in the Bond idiom. There are some beautiful moments of expansive, soaring strings on tracks like 'Donna Lucia' and 'Madeleine', which recall Newman's work on The Shawshank Redemption and American Beauty.
The action cues are also suitably intense and rousing - 'Los Muertos Vivos Eshan' makes terrific use of the chord structure of the Bond theme, as does 'Snow Plane'. There are lots of split notes in the top brass parts throughout, recalling John Barry's scores of the 60s and David Arnold's in the Brosnan films.
Other observations - sadly you never get to hear the James Bond theme in full on the soundtrack (like 'Breadcrumbs' in Skyfall). In fact, the Monty Norman duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh Bond theme doesn't appear at all. Newman does tease the 'be-bop' middle section of the Bond theme quite a bit though.
And as commented earlier from the snippet released on Classic FM, a choral section is present for a few of the cues. It's a little Batman in places and not as subtle as the one John Barry used in Moonraker, but it still adds to the piece.
My main thought from listening to the soundtrack is that it's very enjoyable and engaging as music in its own right, without the visual stimuli of the movie. I felt enjoyment of the Skyfall soundtrack came from listening to it in the context of the movie. This soundtrack is great stand-alone.

On a Bond related note: a-ha just released a 2015 remastered edition of "Stay On These Roads" (
http://tinyurl.com/nhjubgl), which contains their version of the title song, as the band and John Barry didn't get along, thus producing two different versions of the song (one that's on the final film/OST and the other from "Stay On These Roads").
Looks like KaFaraqGatri has a new source to make "The Living Daylights" expanded remastered edition (the two Pretenders songs were remastered and released on the Bond 50 compilation album).

-------
Now onto question time, while we wait for more expanded goodness! :D
Which score from any of the Bond films is your favorite? For me, it's "A View to a Kill", "The Living Daylights", "Moonraker", "GoldenEye" (painfully underrated score IMO, next to Kamen's "Licence to Kill", but to each their own), "Diamonds are Forever" (for a movie that's going into a proto-Roger Moore territory, the score has moments, especially "Circus, Circus", in which I had on repeat prior to the US opening day of "SPECTRE"), "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "Casino Royale", "Goldfinger", "Skyfall" and "SPECTRE".

Dear KaFaraqGatri,
I think everyone will agree that thanks to your efforts and your work on extending the soundtracks of James Bond, we can finally hear the whole talented work done for 50 years by talented composers; John Barry in the lead.
I know that extracting and mixing a soundtrack is long and tedious. Just to assemble "Trish Trash Polka" with the soundtrack of John Barry (recover on YouTube) to edit the complete score of the Gondola chase in Moonraker, it took me a 2 hours at least for a result that does not happen up to what you're doing.
We are all anxious to see the extent of your work on the new mixes are you up for several months.
Since I am a member of the forum, I log in every day hoping to see a new score; and I think that the initiative of "Gallforce007" allow those who join the forum to discover all your work; and this allows us to wait.
I do not write often on the forum, but it's time to give back to Caesar what is Caesar's.
From France with Love ;-)

It's on this one:

We love your expanded scores and all the hard work you put into them. I could imagine how difficult it can be (example: the three Connery films , all of Moore's, except "Live and Let Die" and Dalton's "Licence to Kill").
Not to mention that this year is a big year for Bond and not just Spectre (which I'm looking forward for the expanded score), but it's also the 20th anniversary of "GoldenEye" and the 30th anniversary of "A View To A Kill", so we could imagine the anticipation for those three soundtracks to be expanded (we sure did got a treat with the expanded release of "Thunderball" on it's 50th).
Thank you once again for all the work you do!

Now, does it seem that Another Way To Die contains a similar opening to You Know My Name? I mean, they both sound very different, but there seems to be some variation on the rhythm to me. It could be nothing.

This thread is great, but one problem: I know that someone has done a lot of really hard work to get some of these extended soundtracks together, making custom covers, etc. but some of the tracks are taken from the dvds and are really bad quality recordings. I wish that I had known what was what before I downloaded them. I wish that someone could have listed the tracks with source information, so I know where the music came from. I'm going through all the music and notating exactly that information, so I can edit the track listings on the back covers and add little * or & or something like that, indicating to look down at the footnotes to see the source information.
It really would have been nice to have it previously.

Wishful thinking, but I hope someone does clean blu-ray rips of the missing instrumentals of "Octopussy" (when Bond is flying the Acrostar, the scene where Bond is at Checkpoint Charlie, the egg auction scene, the arrival at Delhi). I've tried to rip these, but I've deleted immediately, since they're ripped from an MKV and I wasn't too happy with the sound (it's been a while, since I've tried to isolate sound effects/dialogue using Adobe, Audacity and Goldwave).

Kapow design released covers, booklets and jewel case inserts for these, but they're for the older versions. However, you can use the covers for iPod/iTunes album art.

Stinkor made some iPod/iTunes cover art here (

Mr Gold made iPod/iTunes cover art here (

As I understand it, I think scorehunter means a line-in recording of the film's audio - kind of like hooking a record player up to your sound card and recording the input. In other words, a stereo fold down of the film's audio recorded direct from the source.

Does that mean you are in the process of making a custom complete score?

Common for some "scene" torrent groups to upload mixed with HDCam recordings.
Usually the first uploads are audio captured from camera, then later mixed with line recordings.

I've uploaded two alternate theme songs i found, however the quality of the files are not that good. I've been looking for better quality/HQ of these two songs, i hope someone here can upload better quality versions. Maybe they can be used for the expanded scores. The files are :
Skyfall - Radio Edit, different than the main title sequence
The World Is Not Enough - Garbage's version aka. The Chilled out mix
Anyway for those who want them, follow this link

I don't want to come over as an impatient person, but is there someone here who can help me with this please? I would be very gratefull.
