I can't open the file it say's Archive is either in unknown format or damaged. Help please

I got an extraction error through JDownloader when it attempted to auto-extract (it never even prompted me to enter the password), but once I opened the file and clicked to extract manually it worked fine once I input the password. That may not be helpful, but all I can say is that it did work for me.

The 007 store now has The World Is Not Enough soundtrack to buy, but only 30 copies:

https://007store.com/products/the-world-is-not-enough-limited-edition-2-cd-set

If you’re in the UK and have been holding off from buying it from the States because of the shipping charge, here’s your chance!

All fans of the Bond soundtracks should purchase it as we know that MGM are closely monitoring sales and if there’s enough interest we might see expanded releases of the soundtracks we really care about ;)

Thanks for TSWLM! It's too bad there isn't a film version of Bond '77 or Ride to Atlantis because the sound effects in the movie make those selections. The heavy bass in the ski scene and the 70s synth as they ride to Atlantis make both of those scenes so memorable. Thanks for giving us what is probably the best versions of those songs we will probably ever see...

I'm shocked that there is no YouTube video anywhere that has a clip of the film version of "Ride to Atlantis" (too lazy to break out my box set and rewatch the movie, haha). I remember loving it. The ski chase is on YouTube. Not only just the bass make it memorable but also the strings and the emphasis on the cowbells.

Haha, fair enough. It's actually a better score than I remembered.

I'm just saying that there are more pressing scores that would benefit from a more substantial release (TSWLM, LTK, any of John Barry's). But I don't want to sound greedy - the expanded versions of TWINE and DAD are fantastic and a must-have for collectors.

Haven't we already got a pretty much complete version of TND via the isolated score and several versions floating around? Don't think there's anything major missing but could be wrong

suteki_da_ne0087

The isolated score has plenty of sound fluctuations whenever a piece of dialogue happens. The official CD and expanded promos didn't have the film version of "Backseat Driver" or any of the source cues, etc.

I just hope LLLR releases TND because 2020 is the 25th Anniversary of "GoldenEye".

You're absolutely right, but I always prefer an official album mixed from the original recordings as intended by the composer, so that you get to experience the music in it's purest form, without any editing for the film etc. The score to TND suffered horrendous editing to fit the film that was constantly being recut. Thankfully we have clean tracks from the official soundtrack albums, but there's a wealth of material that's only available on bootlegs... plus was there anything else recorded that we don't know about?? Also, I love to buy the official CD's to support the work specialist labels like LaLa Land, Intrada & Varese Sarabande do. They put in a lot of time, effort and money to present soundtrack lovers with wonderful holy grails, often in complete form for the first time. If we don't don't support their work, they'll stop producing the CD's. Bootlegs are fine if there's no alternative, sure, but a professionally mixed album from the original recordings wins hands down for me.

My second contribution to this amazing thread is the music for the video game James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing

The in-game music was composed by composer Sean Callery with additional music by Jeff Tymoschuk.

Later in 2006, Electronic Arts published Callery's score appeared for sale exclusively on Rhapsody.

I have a folder containing

1: A gamerip of the music as it's heard in each corresponding level throughout the game
2: the promo that was released on Rhapsody - https://vgmdb.net/album/6785
3: The theme song performed by Ma and several remixes from a rare Spanish promo CD single released to promote the game - https://www.discogs.com/Mya-007-Todo-O-Nada-Banda-Sonora-Original/release/5598830

A clean FX-free version of the Gun Barrel from Octopussy is a little difficult. There's literally no way to remove the SFX of the trucks at the end of the last part. The gun shot, yes.

Yep. There is a subtle difference between the two, as the one on "Gobinda Attacks" is a tad faster than what Barry wrote for the Gun Barrel. I tried making my own by lowering the pitch by -1 semitone, but it came out rather bad, so I've deleted it.

I think it does the job, but would be interested to hear what everyone thinks! I've taken the great airbase cue that gkgyver so faithfully recreated at the end.

suteki_da_ne0087

This particular The Spy Who Loved Me expanded score is really close to what's being heard on the film. Yes, a chunk of the re-score is used to fill in sections that has SFX and muffled dialogue sections and a lot of the chunks are similar to the first expanded The Spy Who Loved Me, but the opening ski chase score is close to what's being heard on the film, minus the punchy cowbells. There's the string section added and the horns when Bond says "so does England!". The classical source cues are absent from here (Bach's "Air on the G String" with the infamous shark death and Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467 - Adante" when the Atlantis is rising), plus Hamlisch's take on Maurice Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia" theme, but they are not needed. Same can be said if one were to do an expanded score to Moonraker and omit Johann Strauss II's "Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, Op. 214" AKA the gondola scene with the double-take pidgeon and John Barry's take on Elmer Bernstein's The Magnificent Seven theme.

I got to say that KaFaraqGatri really did a great job on this Academy Award-nominated score (lost to Williams' Star Wars). I hope his expanded Moonraker will deliver similar results.

467 - Adante" when the Lotus is rising), plus Hamlisch's take on Maurice Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia" theme, but they are not needed.

I edited the Spy Who Loved Me soundtrack and used the music from youtube. One was original, then another instrumental version of the introductory music, and the rest was what Hamlisch composed. So I actually used alternative music in the soundtrack to extend Soundtrack + and that Mozart called Atlantis Base. Somehow :)

Can someone insert the classical source cues into TSWLM?

I'm sure that these classical pieces were recorded by Marvin Hamlisch for the movie, so using any available recording of these cues wouldn't be quite the same.

The version of Bach's Air On A G String as Atlantis rises out of the sea sounds particularly different. It isn't possible to ge a very clean copy of these recordings from the movie soundtrack either.

The only thing I am curious about is the composer. Who will score this one? Better not be Thomas Newman again. I wouldn't mind David Arnold, but we definitely need someone who has yet to compose for a Bond film. Here's hoping for either of the Gregson-Williams brothers, Micachu (Mica Levi), Pinar Toprak, Alexandre Desplat, Ludwig Gransson (though his looks doesn't scream "Bond Composer", he is really good), Daniel Pemberton, or Rachel Portman.

most of the music was added from youtube, for example '' Underwater Lotus '' I found here but unfortunately it wasn't very good but I used it. Otherwise '' Stromberg Atlantis Base '' This is the classic music from Mozart - Elvira Theme. Otherwise, there are such mixes from Marvin Hamlisch, which I collected so differently on youtube and differently by pieces and differently compiled in the Audacity program.

I apologize if it does not understand much because I do not speak English and use a translator. :)

Otherwise, I have more of such modified Soundtrack. Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger :)

I'm a bit late to the party, but I listened to The Spy Who Loved Me today. KaFaraqGatri, you have excelled yourself! Every track just glowed with the technical expertise and (I expect, long-suffering) effort that dragged every ounce of detail possible out of them. Even the original album tracks sounded better than on the original album, to my ears! Bar finding, restoring and releasing the original tracks officially, I don't think the score to this film will ever sound better. This is going right in my set of top, multi-play albums. Thank you so much!

EDIT TO ADD: I am without technical expertise, and I would really welcome a basic technical commentary as to how you achieved what you did. It would be a fascinating read.

You're very kind, thank you for your post. It was indeed a tough gig; I believe I first began working on Skidoo in 2012 initially! I worked on and off on it for years before I was happy with it.
My work is nothing compared to what a professional could do with the original tracks, so whilst I respect you remarking how good these sound, to me they are pretty lo-fi and could easily sound better if properly remastered from archival masters. Still, if you are enjoying it, that is all that matters :)

I know there is but one more film album to come. Not sure what I can do with it, to be honest, but we'll see.

I guess David Arnold will never be returning to the franchise. Seems unlikely, given that it's been 11 years since his last 007 film score. That's longer than any of the hiatuses taken by John Barry. Seems the producers are uninterested in using him. It's a shame, because with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, I thought he'd finally matured into a style that got away from the techno-heavy style he'd done on the Brosnan films. I mean, maybe he could return to score some future Bond outing, but it seems less and less likely at this point. He was the closest thing to the Barry sound we were ever going to get. He understood the DNA of Bond film music unlike any other composers (with the exception of Barry), whilst also taking the music into a more modern direction.

I'd have liked to see him return to close the Craig era with a score and hopefully at least co-composer credit for the next title song. And it would be cool to see him reprise some of the motifs and elements he introduced in CR and QoS

Hey guys,

Ive been working on a complete version of the soundtrack to On Her Majestys Secret Service. With the expanded version released in 2003, pretty much all of the music is now available, but there are still a few missing cues that Ive tried to incorporate into this longer version for you.

I've built on the amazing job KaFaraqGatri did, with a few additions and amendments:

* The Main Title reflects the version heard in the film with the repeating refrain at the end
* Resignation Memories is based on something I came across on YouTube; I have to fess up - this is not the exact version heard in the film. It dawned on me today that theres a cue in this scene that has never been released (listen here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPnYNmTWbFs) Its similar to the cue heard at the end of the Journey To Blofelds Hideaway, but the instrumentation is different and its double time. Ive included this version for reference, but its not completely accurate.
* Berne (Source) is based on vzoks brilliant job of sourcing the brass band music heard in Berne. Ive looped it so it flows a bit better and have added a bit of reverb on the end for a more pleasing finish.
* Ice Rink (Source) is also from vzok, but again looped more rhythmically and with added reverb.
* Car Chase actually reflects the cue heard in the film, rather than just a copy from the main OHMSS theme.

Here's the tracklist and download link -> https://files.fm/u/88fp4a5d

1. Gun Barrel
2. Bond Encounters Tracey
3. This Never Happened To The Other Feller
4. On Her Majestys Secret Service (Main Title)

8. Bond And Draco
9. Resignation Memories
10. Request Granted
11. Traceys Return
12. We Have All The Time In The World (sung by Louis Armstrong)
13. Gumbolds Safe
14. Bond Meets Sir Hilary
15. Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown? (sung by Nina)
16. Berne (Source)
17. Journey To Blofelds Hideaway
18. Bond Settles In
19. Bond Meets The Girls
20. Dusk At Piz Gloria
21. Sir Hilarys Night Out (Who Will Buy My Yesterdays)

I think hes just trying to get a movie order soundtrack together. I often do that for Bond too. The Bond theme is badly edited in OHMSS, but I do like the extended version for the Little Nellie flight in YOLT.

Well, the ice rink music and the oompah band music is not on the album.

For anyone who is really into getting their version of the album to sound like the movie, then Dusk At Piz Gloria is largely unused. About the first 15 seconds only makes the movie before John Barry switches to the first bit of Bond Meets The Girls.

Was just listening to KaFaraqGatri's edit for A View to a Kill. Question for anyone who knows - what music is the first 19 seconds of Stacey Attacks? It sounds so familiar, but I don't know what part of the film that bit is from. (I know the last 10 seconds or so of the cue is when Stacey attacks Zorin in the blimp, before the main part of Golden Gate Fight). Any help would be appreciated! :)

While I am not holding my breath for LLLR's 2019 Black Friday sale, I do hope that EON, MGM, and David Arnold gave the okay to use his intended mastertapes for "Tomorrow Never Dies", in order to expand it for a complete score.

However, I think the film version of the Sheryl Crow song will be tricky since all her mastertapes got lost in a fire:

However, I think the film version of the Sheryl Crow song will be tricky since all her mastertapes got lost in a fire:

"Intended"?

"Intended"?

If memory serves me, there were some electronic parts that were part of what David Arnold intended, but it was mixed and removed to make them sound "orchestral" in the final film. The best example is "Gustav Graves’ Grand Entrance" from "Die Another Day". It has electronic overdubs that were removed in the final edit of the film to give it that nice orchestral boost.

Not sure if the electronic overdubs were his intention before the final film. Here's hoping someone can confirm this better than me.

I found out about that fire days ago when I was doing some research on Sonic Youth. Their master tapes (among hundreds of other artists) are now gone. Shame.

Would be cool if we got TND, it would be like reverse order. Black Friday 2017 was DAD and Black Friday 2018 was TWINE. TND would be cool to have. Or GoldenEye.

Hi! Fantastic work bringing the complete Bond scores back to life! I have been a life long fan of John Barry and of 007 so I am eternally grateful! One small thing though, I have tried using various archive tools to unpack The Spy Who Loved Me but they all keep getting the hump and telling me they cannot open the Archive. Has there been any issues with this before? Many thanks

Exactly

I've completely forgotten about that.

Chances are we'll probably get some "Okay, Boomer™" scores AKA scores from really old films that nobody cares about but it might interest others.

I remember people hating on the "Planet of the Apes" box set on Twitter, haha...

At least there's Intrada or Quartet Records, but rights still need to be cleared by EON and MGM.

Dr. No, FRWL, and Goldfinger, from what I've read from Lukas Kendall in 2003, are probably lost. That does not mean that one could go the distance and make a re-recording with Nic Raine or find the limited range rear recording angles from the original six-track composite soundtrack from the films themselves. Unless some unexpected discovery happens somewhere, which I am doubting because when Quartet Records wanted to release Nino Rota's "Romeo & Juliet", the master tapes are famously lost and Quartet Records had to resort to using the Capitol records LP masters (John Barry's "The Legend of The Lone Ranger" suffered this fate as well by Intrada).

"Thunderball" might be a possibility. There's still some missing score left (the scene with Fiona driving Bond being one example). Hopefully, Quartet or LLR will seek to it, once they get the rights from EON/MGM to do so. Quartet Records seems like the safest and best choice for the older Bonds, despite their headquarters being in Spain. Like Intrada and LLLR, they do a great job expanding scores that really do need them.

I only care for the original soundtracks as they're the real deal. Yeah, if someone discovers the limited range rear recording angles, that would be something. If we're lucky that is.

I agree on Thunderball being the most realistic title to get a more proper release by Quartet or LLR. We'll se what the future has in store.

Based on currently available evidence, at the very least the following releases seem possible (taking as given that all currently-available material can be cleared by all of the respective rights holders):

- An expanded From Russia With Love. Clean music for this film exists in some form (for example, the death Of Krilencu when Kerim Bey shoots him). A clean version of this cue was used as part of the 5.1 mix when the Ultimate Edition DVDs were first released.

Back in 2003, the now-defunct Los Angeles-based company Mi Casa Multimedia Inc. were working on remixing/upmixing the James Bond films into 5.1 for the Ultimate Edition DVDs, using the Bryston SP 1.7 multi-channel preamplifirer/processors as part of their remastering project. As the James Bond fan site MI6 mentioned in an article from the summer of 2003 (emphasis is mine):

"Original masters from the [first eight] films only had mono dialogue, music and sound effects - so how can 5.1 surround sound tracks be created? The answer came in the shape of original scoring session at Abbey Road Studios, London. A cornucopia of tracks and formats have been reshaped to form polished surround sound sound by using clips and segments from unused recordings to patch up the original masters.

"Faults such as crackle, hiss or other areas of low quality in the original tracks have been surgically replaced with pieces selected from up to eight hours of original session recordings. Messing with a classic Bond film will have most fans gritting their teeth, but this clever use of unused takes keep the soundtracks authentic, without the need to synthesize replacements."

It is not known what those eight hours of original recording sessions include, but presumably they include multiple films, including Goldfinger (which also features clean unreleased music on the Ultimate Edition 5.1 mixes).

- An expanded Thunderball. Lukas Kendall looked into producing a 2CD set back in 2002/2003 but EMI could not afford it. The master tapes at Abbey Road were incomplete back then, but in the US a 1/4" two-track stereo tape of music (with four more cues duplicated on a 1/2" three-track tape) existed. The 1/4" tape was in a poorer condition, and as a result some cues from this tape were not included in the expanded release from 2003. These included some of the music leading up to the final underwater battle. Two cues were missing altogether from both the Abbey Road and US master tapes; these being the cue in Reel 7 where Fiona and Bond drive fast in the car and the cue in Reel 9 as Bond fights a bad guy in the shark tank. The former cue is clean (albeit with reduced fidelity) on the 70mm six-track mix used for the original Special Edition DVD, so this could perhaps be remastered/cleaned up and presented as a bonus track on a new hypothetical CD set, presented outside of the main program. The mono LP version of Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was mastered for the 2003 CD from vinyl , as EMI could not locate a mono album master (a saxophone replaces the Shirley Bassey vocal). Today, there remains between 20- and 30 minutes of commercially unreleased music from Thunderball.

- An expanded OHMSS. The EMI expansion edits a few cues for repetition (e.g. 1M5, 10M4), and omits some film versions of other cues (e.g. 2M1, 2M2, 4M3, 11M1, and some of the skating music) in order to present a single-disc version of the score. Further unreleased cues are available that were not included for space reasons, including a source cue for guitar (as well as an alternate with strings) at Dracos birthday party, and the film version of "We Have All The Time In The World" for Tracy and Bond after their escape from the Swiss town.

- An expanded Diamonds Are Forever. At least one cue was edited for repetition on the 2003 CD release, so the original cue is available for a producer wishing to include the full cue as recorded. In addition, at least one cue was omitted, which I believe is 9M1.

- An expanded Live And Let Die. The 1993 US LaserDisc release featured an isolated music score (from stems), which featured the score as heard in the film. Although it contained volume fluctuations and edits, these could perhaps be combined with the original recording sessions to make a more complete score with isolated cues (i.e. without cross-fading/suites as heard on the 2003 CD expansion), assuming that the recording sessions masters are not complete.

- An expanded The Man With The Golden Gun. Sixteen-track tapes existed at Abbey Road (at least in 2002/2003) but EMI informed Kendall that the remastering process was becoming too expensive, so a planned expansion of the score was dropped.

- An expanded The Spy Who Loved Me. Kendall reported back in the day that there were 24-track tapes of The Spy Who Loved Me at Abbey Road in London, but he wasn't able to discern if these were mixes of the original cues or the LP re-recording. He further stated that dubbing of 24-track mixes were very time-consuming and expensive.

- An expanded For Your Eyes Only. Presuming that masters do not exist for the currently-unreleased cues (given the Rykodisc presentation), they appear to exist at least in stem form, as numerous unreleased cues were used in a clean form in the creation of the Ultimate Edition 5.1 DVD mixes.

Thanks. Very interesting read. At least some expansions seem possible in theory then, provided enough recording sessions exist and could be combined with isolated music tracks and so on. But I find it strange that they couldn't use the same source for the Bassey vocal version of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang when expanding Thunderball, as the one they used for the track appearing on the 'The Best of James Bond - Limited Edition 2-CD' released in 1992. Do you have more info on that Kaf?

There was a rights issue with Mr. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang by Ms Bassey, and they couldn't include it in the expanded edition of Thunderball. The EMI releases were a budget line, and they didn't have much money to spend. That's why we got an expanded Live and Let Die instead of The Man with The Golden Gun. Both were available, but they could only afford to do one of the two.
Marvin Hamlisch insisted that the released soundtrack of The Spy Who Loved Me not include the original tracks, so they used re-recordings.
Isolated tracks are of limited value on several titles, as many are combined MaE (music and effects) tracks and are pretty useless for pulling music from. The Criterion laserdiscs has MaE tracks for Dr. No, FRWL and Goldfinger. I haven't seen any evidence that the original music tracks for these film exist or were used on the 5.1 DVD remixes.
I with all tracks to TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF and LALD had been harvested and digitized back in 2003 as the original 3-track LCR tapes and 8-tracks (for DAF) may have decayed since then. They sounded pretty great on the expanded EMI releases.
LaLaLand isn't releasing a Bond title this year as EON is wrapped up in producing the new film. Apparently the next title will be a 2-CD of Tomorrow Never Dies which we'll likely see in 2020.

Hi, all 007 fans ! As (I presume) most of us, I rearrange the playlist of each soundtrack say in chronogical order. Personally, I try to reproduce the same edits as in movies ("Girl Trouble" and "Ski Chase" are heavily edited in the movies and the "This Never Happened To The Other Fella" is starting with the Bond Theme, for instance). I'm also adding some source music as the funeral chant at the beginning of TB or the guitar played at the Draco's birthday). Then, as bonus tracks, I add the "album" version if different from the movie version. Of course, in some case, I can't avoid some SFX. Sometimes I cheat (in DN, some tracks are reused as Bond & Mr. Jones followed by Leiter & Quarrel is reused when Bond Meets Leiter at Pussfeller's, so I can avoid the car sound with a bit of editing). I've noticed things I cannot understand with the "official" OST, specially with the ones from John Barry. Some parts of the "official" tracks are missings. I'm talking about the second part of "SPECTRE Island" (VZOK posted it on YouTube as "Kronsteen Plan" if I'm not wrong), but also the very first part of "Over & Out"", "Scaramanga Island", "Centrifuge" and "Bond Lookalike" just to name a few. Another thing I don't understand is the names of some DAF tracks who seem to be titled in a rush. IMHO "007 And Counting" would be a better name for the oil rig's attack and "To Hell With Blofeld" would fit perfectly for the last part of DAF's pre-title (I'm talking about these tracks names, not the musics).

Tadlow have done some excellent re-recordings, which would be a good alternative for any lost soundtracks in my book.

@Phil The Shark - I imagine on a track like Spectre Island they felt the Kronsteen part was repetitive after the first section so they omitted it.

Re-recordings are definitely an option if the original recordings are lost! But they should be delegated to the likes of William Stromberg.

Or, by trying something different, to Michael Giacchino, who has "channelled" the most Barry in his music in recent years.

What I most certainly don't want to listen to is another lackluster effort with a sinfonic orchester under sedation (e.a. such as The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes).

Reconstructing scores (to a certain degree) with modern software is also an option. I fondly remember a very complete Moonraker created by one of the forum members. And, while not perfect, MOST of it was acceptable - even excellent. Which makes you wonder what a professional studio with a real budget could achieve.

---------- Post added at 07:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 AM ----------

On this day in Bond history, "Moonraker" opened in the UK 40 years ago. Happy 40th anniversary, "Moonraker"!

Oh my goodness, yes! I almost forgot that! :)

(And, well, it's been six months since you posted it, but I don't come here very often these days due to... personal drama in my life.)

I remember sitting in the cinema in 1979 and listening to Shirley Bassey's Moonraker in the end credits. What an amazing experience that film had been! Though storywise it's almost a complete "remake" of The Spy Who Loved Me - combined with a good dosage of Star Wars-hype, Moonraker remains one of my guiltiest pleasures to this very day! :)

Especially the cinematography is very nice. In some parts it almost feels like a completely different film is going on. Especially the beginning at the French Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte.

SFX and model work by Derek Meddings also remain a highlight - with a MUCH lesser budget than Star Wars. Many (idiots) believe the film "ripped off" the Space Shuttle launch. Well, the real - first - booster launch only happened in 1983!

Actorwise Michael Lonsdale steels the show. His calm and collected villain Drax feels as smart and threatening as Donald Pleasance's Blofeld. This is clearly a fanatic and not a lunatic. The only choice I regret is having Lois Chiles and not Corinne Clry as the leading lady. While I love Lois, the little French lady would have been SOO much more fascinating as a sneaky and cunning secret agent! Also worth mentioning is Emily Bolton as Bond's Brazilian contact Manuela. Giving her some more work to do (except for getting choked by Jaws) would have been great! (Then again, you had Monica Bellucci in the very stupid Spectre and the moronic producers weren't able to make HER Bond's leading lady...)

And if you're into filmmusic (such as us) Barry's excellent score clearly deserves more attention AND a better release! Alas, it seems as if the tapes of the original recording were lost during mixing. So we may never get the full package.

But no worries. Time will tell.

Moonraker may be very cheesy in some regards, but it's also not too serious. Just come over, enjoy a 40+ year old film and have a good time! Cheers! ;)
