I'm so bad at guessing the finals. For this one (before we started), I thought it'd be Fire Temple (OoT), Lethal Lava Land (SM64), Norfair (Super Metroid), or Hothead Bop (DKC2) winning. I really wanted Clustertruck and Granstream Saga to get some attention, but I never thought they'd make it so far. Keeps it fun. :D

Chrono Cross.
Re arthur. I think that being able to predict a win would come down to more than just the selection of songs. From personal experience, I was picking most of the based on taste (personal preference) or on the picture of fire that I had. Interestingly I actually associated more with clips with actual sounds of fire than themed around fire. This made me surprised by some of the tracks that were totally not what I was going for. For instance, i would have never guessed that Clustertruck would be so compelling based on the use of rock guitars. All that to say, wouldn't you need to be wise about where people have voted? That'd be something to graph hah.

Main Theme Arrange is nice but pretty far from my favorite Suikoden tracks. TWEwY was a really pleasant surprise from a game I've never heard of and I could see myself voting it pretty deep into this.

Tomb Raider II - Both were nice, but that nostalgia hit me like a tractor trailer! I love Main Theme and Swimming Isles, but the Venice Theme wouldn't let me vote any other way.

Treasures of the Deep - Is Tommy Tallarico the first person in the video game industry to go from composer to company president? At the very least, it seems like an extremely unusual career arc.
Parasite Eve - Great to get Cuphead in a rumble. But it's hard to beat Parasite Eve.

Cuphead. Parasite Eve is nice but not really doing much for me.
Uh I'll listen to the others in a bit. I have to make my vote post at least an hour before I update or it screws up the formatting when it merges posts....
edit: ok well Treasures of the Deep is winning anyway and I was probably going there anyway based on a quick sampling so I'm not going to put much thought into this one.

Parasite Eve
Ultima Online
Parasite Eve doesn't do quite as much for me as I feel like an 8 minute track ought to, but I like the original version of the Ys track substantially more than its turbografx remake and I can't really appreciate it independently because of that.

Thanks for the love guys! This was fun. I've been on a personal quest to find a track I like from as many franchises or stand-alone games as possible. Some of the tracks in the rumble were my favorites per franchise, some weren't. I honestly though the Parasite Eve track would eventually win, but the Castlevania track is pretty great.

Off-topic: Tonight's announcement from Nobuo Uematsu. He's only 59, but he has aged rapidly in the last few years. I hope it's just as he says and nothing more.
To My Dearest Fans,
Since the establishment of Dog Ear Records, I have found myself blessed with countless opportunities. From composing new works to holding concerts around the world, my days have been hectic, yet fulfilling. The resulting fatigue, however, has finally caught up with me, and I find it mentally and physically difficult to go on at my current pace. After giving serious consideration to all options, I have decided to take an extended leave of absence and give my mind and body the time they need to properly mend. If I am to return, I want to do so in full health. Do not worry. Once Ive made a full recovery, Ill be back doing what I do best.
My current plan is to rest for the remainder of the year, and while I cannot commit to a method or time frame for my return, Im very hopeful.
I deeply apologize for the burden this decision places upon both my fans and my clients, and hope that you can understand and support the path I have chosen.
I thank you all for your continued support and only ask that you are patient until Im on my feet once again!

Final Fantasy VII - Ultima Online is really good and I really wanted to vote for it, but I do believe FFVII to be superior.

Some commentary on my vote: I do think FF7 has more compelling songs by far. What I've seen in Ultima Online is a really calming aesthetic that I imagine holds up very well to hundreds of hours of repetition, which is what you're likely to get in an MMORPG.

Inferno - this is from the CD version of the game. I couldn't find another video on Youtube for this particular track, but one episode of my podcast has it (

Castlevania - oh this is tough
Kyuukyoku Senki Gikadiver - The link is broken, and if the link Arthur found is correct my answer stays as is.
There were a couple soundtracks I would have voted over Final Fantasy VII. Ultima Online and Final Fantasy Tactics definitely. Maybe Klonoa. Maaaaaaybe Breath of Fire III or Mischief Makers if they squared off early, though probably not in the final. Part of it's my tendency to go hard on classics and upvote underrated but great soundtracks, because the gap isn't as huge in my opinion as it's often made out to be. Part of it is that for all of FF7's great tunes I think it has a fair amount of filler and isn't Uematsu's most well-rounded soundtrack. Part of it's just personal taste; Uematsu's music tends to be very direct and thematic, and I equally enjoy the longevity appeal of more ambient tracks.
Would I vote Symphony of the Night over it?
I had to sit on that one a bit and listen to the samples again.
Yes, I think I would.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Aaaaaaah. The hard thing here is the FF7's OST is so massive, so it's easy to have a lot of good tracks, but also a lot of bad ones. SOTN took me a while to get into, but I wholeheartedly love its music now, except for that one song about the wind lol. For consistency in quality, SOTN wins me over today.
Kyuukyoku Senki Gikadiver - I'm feeling the rockier theme today.

2) Nine themes is the largest selection we've ever had for a next rumble vote. Thank you to everyone who contributed! This is awesome.

I'm not familiar with a lot of these, so if they get picked I'll get to hear totally new stuff. Otherwise, my choices are: Best of 2016, Arthur's Custom Rumble, and Shad's Custom Rumble. I'm definitely curious about hearing the covers and some newer stuff.
No Mercy advances 3-1, and it's time to kick off a game that will showcase some new material: Best of 2016!

Ha! Our first two entrants are coming from pretty different emotional territory. Owlboy is lush, beautiful, and reverential; VA-11 HALL-A is throwback synthrock with the old "crystal" sound doubled and tripled for the melody. (The songs with fretless bass and heavy strings remind me a lot of One Curious Nightfall (
https://flashygoodness.bandcamp.com/track/forest-of-nightfall)). A nice thing about the Owlboy videos is that you get to see a little bit of the game world, which helps orient me in the music given how short the OST tracks are. I am totally split on this one. Feels like a preference-of-the-moment kind of pick.
