Wow! A bunch of big name soundtracks just went down.

Castlevania 64 - Can anyone put their finger on what Elemental Master's credits sound like? I know I've heard something similar before.

Lords of Magic - Here come two more tropes of fire music: hand drums and gongs.

Also, the thread just made it to 6,000 replies.

Neither of the fire level options actually feels remotely like a fire theme to me. Weird. Well I like Life Force more. Would have voted Illusion Blaze anyway if it had given me a more appropriate vibe.

That Life Force stage is more of a rock/volcano type level. There is also a 'real' fire stage in this game with this music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q-3ORwe6Yg).

I actually do probably need another replacement now. It would require an hour+ of your time though, possibly a fair bit more depending on how fast you read. Here is the game thread (http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/topic/101533-game-thread-aspiring-tennis-enthusiasts-day-2/). It makes a lot of assumptions that people who have never played Mafia before probably won't get, so let me know if it looks like something that would interest either of you and I'll clarify with more information. In the meantime, please do not post in that thread I just linked. (You're welcome to post elsewhere on the forum.)

Also, please excuse the really random theme. Most games are more "normal" than that; I was being a goof.

I think there have been two basic fire themes so far. 'Dangerous exploration vibe' is one of them, 'no time to explore, I need to get the fuck out of here' the other. The latter usually comes with a more energetic soundtrack that tries to evoke desperation or even panic. Most action games or shmups that have been played so far fall into this category whereas RPGs usually go for the exploration theme.

I think Howard Drossin's attempt at a 90s rock album via Comix Zone is delightful and yeah, I'm going to vote it even over Super Mario World's iconic credits theme.

Donkey Kong Country 2. Lords of Thunder has a great concept for a fire level to start and I love the gritty tone/quality of the sound, but god the 80s cock rock guitar wanks on way too long for its own good. Could have been a solid tune if he hadn't gotten distracted trying to show off his scales to the myriad lady gamers of the TurboDuo. *snerk*

Bucky O'Hare, though I feel like it's missing something. It's got the groundwork for a really memorable song, but it doesn't close out the loop with a little finisher like say, Wily's Castle from Mega Man 2, so it starts to sound redundant. Do you know what I mean?

I agree. I also feel like it doesn't have some X factor that changes the emotion or takes the music someplace new after the initial patterns are set up (Wily's Castle from MM2 is a perfect example of how to do that right, too).

I liked it better than Kirby, but I don't disagree with this. As an aside, my friend and I replayed Secret of Mana two years ago. It did not have the magic it had in high school, and this track became the underwhelming culmination of our frustration. I'm curious how others have maintained nostalgia for the game to the degree that a remake is in production.

I've actually never played it, but I've always wanted to. By the time my parents allowed me to play video games the original PlayStation was already out for a while. So, Secret of Mana was already expensive at that time and I missed out on it. I know I could play an emulator, but I'm glad to hear there is a remake in production.

I was never a big Secret of Mana fan as a kid, and I didn't really notice the music either. I remember when Square started marketing vgm in the US for the first time, I gobbled up FFVI instantly, but I never ended up buying the Secret of Mana soundtrack (granted my money at the time would have consisted of whatever I got for my birthday/Christmas and a $1 a week allowance). I had a few fun experiences with the game. I really enjoyed the spell leveling grind for some reason. You can never blow up too many nordic rabbits, I guess? But it definitely never ranked among my favorites.

It wasn't until probably the late 90s, when mp3s became prevalent, that I ended up downloading everything from Square I could get my hands on and fell in love with Hiroki Kikuta. As far as credit themes go for classic Square games, I really love SoM's ending. I suppose I agree that it doesn't feel like a credit roll, but I never came to appreciate the SoM soundtrack within the context of the game proper anyway.

Very underrated soundtrack imo, if that had been on the SNES, people would be making documentaries about it. I did upload the entire thing to Youtube a few months ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmd3XWl1BZs), it's also some of the best use of a midi synthesizer I have ever heard. It's hard for me to pass fair judgment in the second bracket because I just love the Mega Man 2 soundtrack as a whole too much, but I'm pretty sure I would take it always here anyway. Shadow Man sounds about as much like a fire level as its name suggests. <_<

Probably something like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaMmfgwPLMM), considering the very narrow definition of a fire theme that most people in this thread seem to like :)
