As more time passes since I saw Iron Man 2 I think I am liking it less and less. Initially the lure of RDJ had me confused but, I think objectively, it really is a bad film.

Just back from Four Lions tonight. Chris Morris' first film and it's not great. Stops being funny after about the first half hour though it does work as a don't-blow-yourself-up message film.

and how little development Vanko gets.

Someone bitched me out for mentioning that in my video over at TFW, lawl. He went "When someone calls in to question the MAIN VILLAIN I just can't accept their opinion!!!" lawl.

I don't know, when the main villain only has two brief action scenes and their primary role in between is just sitting around barely talking, I think feeling he was underused is pretty justified, but maybe I'm a crazy person.

Several others said about the same in the discussion thread, it's clear that I'm certainly not alone with that opinion, but he singled me out cos the video I guess.

I just commented on your video. I agree with it, for the very most part. I think there was one little thing where I was like "no, I actually liked that," or something to that effect but I can't remember what it was, offhand.

The first fight being brief made me think DAMN, YOU JUST GOT PUNKED, and I was excited for the next time they'd fight. I thought it was reestablishing Iron Man since the break and setting up something epic. Nope :(

It came out longer and bitchier than I meant it to, but ah well. I watched the movie again already and I can't say any of my opinions have really changed much. I could probably elaborate more clearly on some of my points, but good lawd that'd be even more talking and who cares.

It's come to the point where I don't even like looking at myself in the mask, lawl. Go self esteem go.

I thought about the continuous demasking in Spider-Man during the bro-fight in the middle of the movie. I kept expecting them to lift their faceplates to yell at each other, but it didn't happen, not even at the end so as to shoot an emo look or anything.

I think they had him do that because he's cocky and stuff, Tony got a missile lock on his face but the mask closed up before they could hit.
It didn't bother me at all unlike the demasking in the spider-man movies because movie 1 is the origin story so he's only spider-man for some of it, #2 he is spider-man no more for most of it, and movie 3 he's got the symbiote on and half the fights he's in street clothes. Plus there's the whole secret identity thing which pisses me off that Peter doesn't do bip to protect it and almost every single person knows who he is yet the plot lines with Mary Jane & Harry revolve around him not being able to just tell them the truth.

Also I wish, wish, wish, the movie making people wouldn't always kill the bad guy off, these characters have huge histories and you're gonna want sequels and having a recurring villian or 2 would be nice of a change.

Rashomon (yet again).

I've saw this film numerous times and owned it twice but this was a version I bought recently. It's the Optimum special edition, and if anyone is thinking about startting a Kurosawa collection this version has a far superior picture than the BFI edition. In fact, this is the best I've ever saw it look. Still some sound issues but the picture was exceptional considering the age of the film stock.

I think I liked Iron Man 2 more than everyone else in this thread. I was not expecting it to live up to the first one, and of course it didn't. Can't figure lightning will strike in the same spot twice. But I mean, I was entertained, and I didn't actually have any serious complaints.

I don't think Vanko needed to be developed any more because the movie wasn't really about him. He was pretty much just a stand in so that there was someone to be an appropriate Tony Stark antagonist.

This movie was about Tony struggling to keep the Iron Man tech under wraps and the development of his relationship with SHIELD, and that's what it primarily covered. I thought it did so adequately, and I was entertained the whole time.

Fantastic Mr. Fox - The first half-hour needed some revision, and too many moments were heavy-handed and overly explanatory. But there was lots to like, too. The story kept bringing back things from earlier, and the voice actors and animators did a great job. For Anderson, this was definitely a step up from The Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Limited.

That's exactly my issue with it. The movie's main story is clearly a more personal one, and I like that, but they still have all the flashy hero/villain stuff in there, which I also like, but that element is there just enough to give the "ooh, ahh!" effect for the popcorn munching masses. It's not given much care, making it feel extraneous, maybe even a bit shallow. I think the tools were there for an overall tighter story but it fell just slightly short.

I don't consider my complaints major though and from what you said I probably liked it just as much, it's just that I did have expectations.

The first two movies in the Up Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_Series).

I'm re-watching them because a new one came out a few years ago and I missed it. If you haven't heard of these documentaries, they follow the lives of fourteen people from different British social classes. In the first one (Seven Up) the children are seven and it's 1964. Each movie thereafter catches up with the kids every seven years. It's really funny at first. The director does a good job of just letting them talk and reveal themselves in their attitudes towards certain subjects and in their body language.

Like I said I loved the use of classical pieces instead of a soundtrack, the cinematography & the ambience, it's a really great artistic achievement IMO.
It's a different film, many of scorsese films have many things in common, this one isn't about criminals like most of his famous films for example.

Your right, to each his own. I hold this director to a higher standard. The patented scorsese close-ups, collapsing camera irises, gratuitous violence, language & use of period music... 50's doo-wop & classic rock. Plus this movie WAS about a "criminal", so it can be compared. I did kind of enjoy it however.

IMO, It just didn't seem like a Scorsese film, but rather something like your average everyday psychological thriller.

Yeah, Some points I wasn't to sure if it's suppose to be a comedy... but even with that it wasn't good comedy. Brakedancing possessions... Didn't know if that was suppose to be freaky or something. :/

Also, Dead girl didn't know she was dead suddenly she gets to see what happened to her, though she didn't look at peace she still was sent to light? Huh?

Yeah the first 2 were good. This one is just plain bad... and looks like it got a lower budget than the first two.

Never heard of Monster, but there's a review of it by Junot Diaz...

"Forget Professor Moriarty or Hannibal Lecter; Johan could crumble them both for breakfast. Good Dr. Tenma's epic quest to bring Johan to justice involves bodies galore, assassins, cross-dressing, Nazi experiments, the Czech secret service, Johan's beautiful twin sister, a vindictive ex-fiancee with a drinking problem, a Javert-like inspector who cannot forget anything and one of the creepiest children's books you'll ever read. Urasawa is a national treasure in Japan, and if you ain't afraid of picture books, you'll see why. For those of you who like your suspense red-hot but with a beautiful beating heart, Monster is for you. 'At last [the Monster] had found a name, but there was no longer anyone around to call him by it.'"-- Junot Diaz, author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner

Sounds interesting.

Oh, and I watched the Witches of Eastwick tonight. Bafflingly, humorlessly bad. I have no idea how they got Jack Nicholson, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Richard Jenkins to agree to do it--unless the script was completely different before they started shooting.

The Road - Seemingly a very depressing film, The Road pulls off the drama and the heartfelt moments. By focusing less on the why and more on characters, the story triumphs. The acting is superb, sfx unelaborate, and the set dressing/make-up appropriate. The pacing is my favorite component to the film, never lagging, always moving on down the road.

Vexille. (aka Vexille: 2077 Japanese Isolation, also aka Bekushiru 2077 Nihon sakoku)

An animated CGI thing. If you saw Appleseed, it looks similar to it, using a weird cel-shading and rotoscoping effect. I found Vexille to be disappointing considering it was written and Dir by Fumihiko Sori. The music was terrible and with the exception of a few plot twists it was underwhelming. I'm going to give it to a friend next time I see him.

Snoopy had the dog house.

Don't be silly, this was a serious movie of the Red Baron. He was more than just a cartoon caricature that's always fighting against Snoopy. Arthur 'Roy' Brown was flying a Sopwith Camel, yes Snoopy is always fantasizing that's what he's in as well.

Though with this movie took some exaggerations with history because I don't believe the Red Baron and 'Roy' Brown ever met face to face before their final and fatal meeting, sadly the movie does not show this face off. And historian have now determined the Red Baron wasn't shot down by any pilot in the air. He was more likely killed by fire from the ground instead, he managed to land his plane. Red Baron's last word was "Kaputt."

The Stepfather (2009) - This remake of the Terry O'Quinn 80s classic is well filmed and acted but inevitably fails from being too predictable and a lack of originality.

The Doctor and the Devils - Based off the 1950s Dylan Thomas stage play of the same name. Great premise, writing and acting though not adapted as well as I would like. Some scenes feel unnecessary and certain characters underdeveloped. The best parts involve Timothy Dalton's character Dr. Rock in bouts of poetic fervor concerning his profession and the future of science.

Since I first saw TS2 I've called bullshit on Rex playing a Buzz Lightyear game using an SNES controller with the up on the D pad to jump and the A or B button for fire. After all, why would you be playing a PS2 game with an old controller. Well, I noticed the fact that on the old TV was an SNES console and then remembered that Toy Story 1 came out in 1995 and had video games based off it on SNES, Sega, PC, & gameboy. Most likey Buzz Lightyear had a video game released around 95-96 in the toy story universe and it would be a contra/Metroid style game on the SNES. It only looked like it was a moderen game for sake of the movie's opening.

Also the theory that Andy's mom was Jesse's owner doesn't work out. Jesse's girl was a child in the 50's to 60's and a teenager in the 60's to 70's. You can tell this by the stuff in her room and Andy's mother looks pretty young.

But I'm sure Sid Phillips is somehow related to Biff Tannen.

Freak Out -- This is the Cinema Snob's first movie. It's.......interesting. The girl's acting is honestly bad to the point of being distracting. She has moments similar to Jay's "he does not speak English well like we do" from Clerks when she has anything lengthy to say.

Watched part 2, and it was... a bit silly in places. Sadly. It felt very schizophrenic. If you know your Asian cinema you'll spot the occasional Zhang Yimou moment, and a Ang Lee moment, and a Yuen Woo Ping moment, and (of course) a Kurosawa moment, and if you are familiar with John Woo's usual themes you'll spot those too, although they are less developed than usual.

It was still good, but not half as good as part one. I'd guess that most of what was cut for the shamefully short western release was cut from part two.

Well with Toy Story it's kind of a perfect storm of not jsut having great movies with solid characters but also having the story happen "in real time".
many of us where children when the first 2 movies came out, now 11 years later we've either are about to, are going through or have just recently gone through the same things that's happening to Andy. Add to that the fact that the toys are these characters we've been invested in for over 14 years it gets very touching.

Remember how underwhelming US Marshals was?

Nope. Never watched it. :)

I also watched Daybreakers the day before Sherlock. It attempts to put a new twist on the tired vampire genre. It's an okay movie. Some nice editing but the perpetual weird lighting is a little annoying. Willem Dafoe is in it; the best thing in it.

They should have made a mask for Norman Osborn and just use Dafoe's real face painted green for the Goblin.

The Blob (1988) - Certain sfx make the film feel dated but overall it's fun, gory, and completely satisfying. I can't wait for the Rob Zombie update.

Rabid - Early Cronenberg film with an intriguing premise and a nice deviation on the vampire flick. Had no idea Marilyn Chambers was a porn star until I read her biography in the special features, she did a fantastic job. Also great director's commentary on this one.

Juno - Absolutely loved it. Smart and funny dialogue, great cast. Even Jennifer Garner who I think is a bit overused was great in it. Definitely one of those movies I want to see again.

I liked the idea of the world ending in 2012 before the world got on the hype machine about it. Now it most likely won't happen. THANKS ROLAND EMMERICH. WAY TO RUIN THE END OF THE WORLD LIKE YOU RUINED MY LIFE BY ONLY DOING THREE BTTF MOVIES.

...on topic, the last movie I saw was Stargate Continuum, capping my month-long marathon of rewatching all of Stargate SG-1. It's such a weak point to end the series on, and thanks to MGM's financial woes, we probably won't see SG-1 again anytime soon (apart from forced cameos in SGU :( ) I mean, if they had to cancel the next Bond, there's no way they'd have funding for a Stargate movie.

I think it's disappointing mainly because The Ark of Truth was so freaking epic.

The last movie I watched before that (and wasn't a rewatch) was The Runaways, the movie in which The Chick from Twilight and Dakota Fanning have a lesbian sex scene.

....that's all that really needs to be said. Actually, I lie - it shows that Kristen can actually act - very believable as Joan Jett, and the movie was enjoyable in the Almost Famous vein.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Did not enjoy the graphic scenes one bit and the reality of it made me uncomfortable. Blood and gore and guts? Fine. Rape? A big no no with me. I really enjoyed seeing Lizbeth struggle to overcome her bad memories of men and trust Michael. If it wasn't for her excellent hacker and info finding skills so that she could screen Michael, I think she'd never trust any man. I'd probably enjoy the books as well.

@Raidenx: There was a third Stargate movie planned, Revolution.

From Wikipedia

In April 2009, MGM confirmed a third new SG-1 film that Brad Wright had first announced in May 2008.[111][112] Wright and former Stargate Atlantis executive producer Carl Binder will co-write the film,[113] with the working title Stargate: Revolution.[114] The start of the film's production was planned for 2009,[115] with Martin Wood as director.[8] However, production is on hold, partly due to the effects of the late-2000s recession, though Wright has said that movie would "almost certainly" start filming before the end of 2009.[116] According to Wright, the film will center on the Jack O'Neill character and will reunite as many of the SG-1 cast as possible, depending on the cost of the film and actor availability.[111] Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) has confirmed his and Richard Dean Anderson's participation,[2] although contracts have not been signed as of April 2009[update].[115] Amanda Tapping confirmed her appearance in the third SG-1 film and the first Atlantis movie.[6] According to Wright, the character of Vala Mal Doran will not appear in the film.[8] On 8 January 2010, Michael Shanks told SciFi Wire that the proposed third SG-1 direct-to-DVD Movie is unlikely to happen due to the large delay between the second movie and now. He commented, "Never say never", but appeared skeptical that such a movie would ever be made, saying, "This might be the closing of the book on that particular [chapter of the] franchise."[117]

I enjoyed Ark of Truth, and felt Continuum was so so.

Last movie I saw was Judgement Night with Denis Leary, Emilio Estevez and Cuba Gooding Jnr.

The Manitou (1978) - A completely ludicrous premise about a tumor growing on a woman's neck that turns out to be the fetus of a 400 year old medicine man about to reincarnate, I love it. And it's actually based off a book. While sfx weren't great, I forgive the film since it was made in the 70s. And I had wished the star Tony Curtis hadn't been so comedic.

Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Strait-Jacket (1964) - A great psychological thriller from the writer of Psycho and director of such classics as House on Haunted Hill and 13 Ghosts starring Joan Crawford as a woman returning from 20 years locked up in an asylum for beheading her cheating husband. I felt that everything was well done especially the sound/music used to build the tension in the more climactic scenes. Scenes of beheading are tastefully done but still shocking. Also the ending completely came out of left field and surprised me.

Loved the last shot of the film

Batman (Tim Burton)

Having rewatched it after so long is amusing, compare the stand off with the Joker in Batman and the one in Dark Knight; Batman is actually gunning for the Joker and trying to kill him! And not only that but he probably killed no fewer than 15 guys in the movie.

But I do love how the whole Bruce Wayne is Batman thing is kept as a secret for half of the movie, sure it's pretty obvious but it's still a nice touch.

It's a tragedy we'll never see Billy Dee play his version of Two-Face.

The Runaways - Great casting of Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart who did a great job playing their parts but I felt that a lot of scenes weren't the important events they should have been. I get the vibe they were going for but I don't think they fully pulled it off. Though it was nice to see scantily-clad Fanning and Stewart prancing around throughout the film.

Salt - it was ok. it was a bit slow at the beginning, but then it picked up. The premise is cool (Its like Dark Angel without the future cyberpunk society), she's pretty much Jason Bourne if he was trained by the Russians. Suffice it to say that there's going to be a sequel.

The Collector (1965)

Very good drama/thriller. The movie is basically 2 people's interactions. Unlike most movies about kidnapping these days, the main character was not just some maniac that want to hurt women. A real gentlemen in many ways and quite smart even though not well educated per himself. The ending was simply awesome (by my standard anyway). A movie that is quite ahead of its time.
