It is so great! I love the juxtaposition of the style and the setting :)

Planet Terror was really cheesy but funny...but I guess that's what they aimed for. Lots of disgusting moments.
Deathproof was the best one of the two. Haha Kurt Russel was such an asshole. The ending is pure gold.

:) Same here! Saw it. Went to one of those midnight showings -- I think it was the first time that I've done that. Theater was pretty packed. Quite enjoyable. Strong film, well made -- nothing felt superfluous. And yeah, while they added their own elements, it was definitely true to the book. I saw some reviews complaining that it "loses the magic" -- it didn't. Obviously it's not going to be the same feel as the first story, but it's not supposed to be.
One thing I noticed was that many my fellow movie-goers seemed in particular to appreciate some of the more humorous elements of the film, which were generally always pleasant surprises. I also heard quite a few people saying that they enjoyed it more than the first Narnia film.

Titan A.E. Man, I really liked that film when I was a bit younger, but watching it today, it is pretty frustrating. It has an awful lot of potential as a story but really poorly thought out motives, clunky lines and plot holes you could drive a big spaceship with a load of DNA through. 6/10 man, potential earning it an extra point or two.

Asamiya, if you wanna PM me, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on why Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is more enjoyable. I found the latter film on the whole to be creative, original, and despite some of the add-ons and changes, nevertheless very true to the book.

I saw Wanted yesterday.
I thought it was great. Very fast paced, with a great story.
What I liked: Angelina Jolie, Good story, Angelina Jolie, great opening, Angelina Jolie, good plot twists, and ANGELINA JOLIE is HOT in it.
Gripes: Aside from the basic plot, it wasn't a true comic adaptation. I didn't like the montage training sequence and the quick plot development. It could've used more meat to make it a longer movie.
Overall: Even with all the gripes, I thought It was a good movie. I understood why they changed it from a fraternity of Super-villians, to a Fraternity of assassins. It would of been hard to explain each character especially with Super-heroes involved.
I recommend it.

Most of the comedy was situated around the sidekick guy (whose name I can't remember) he was mostly useless in the puzzle solving on this one, you's think he'd know a little more than what he did. regardless I guess I wouldn't mind watching it if I caught it on tv but I wouldn't buy it

Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay- uuhhhh well eehhh the first one had a mission, a point, a goal but this one, the beginning plot is sort of just thrown away somewhat and they throw a bunch of habits and naked people in and then at the end they rush in with the "here's the girl you were SUPPOSED to be chasing, THE END!" It was good, its not really a movie thats what the critics seemed to either forget or didn't know. It was a pilot for the upcoming TV Series that will air in October, what they did was take the first 3 episodes edited them together to make a 90 minute film.
Would it have been better if they just made a film from scratch yeah it would have but for what it was it was a fun and enjoyable film.

Be Kind Rewind-Jack Black is good as always, as is Danny Glover. Great plot, funny humor, and a second half that puts almost everything else this year to shame. I wasn't expecting a serious film but Michael Gondry pulled it off very well as it's essentially his love letter to filmmaking. As a film studies major, I'm probably able to appreciate this one more than most, but I've been recommending it like mad. 10/10

Just watched The Departed
I thought it was pretty good. I like Leonardo Di Caprio playing a character like that. I also thought he was good in his role. I am not usually a fan of him to be honest. But it was a solid effort.
The story worked quite well too. The whole "who is the rat?" thing began to wear a little thin. But it brought it back towards the end. Overall I'd say it was a great film. And definitely worth a watch.

A fine day off work this is turning out to be. Just watched another film. The Recruit. Starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell.
It was OK. The beginning made it look like the film was going to be something different to what it turned out to be. Not enough action sequences fro my liking. And the whole plot was a little shaky.
At least it had some nice eye candy in the form of Bridget Moynahan. But her acting was nothing to write home about. The film is another one i can cross off my list. But if you haven't seen it, don't cut your wrists. It is nothing special. But that's just my opinion..
I think i'll watch one more today. Its either Domino, or Collateral.

It was alright but felt like "hey it's Cloverfield with the Blair Witch and zombies" and that was hard to ignore. If you hate shaky camera work it'll just annoy the fuck out of you, sometimes it was absolutely *impossible* to tell what was happening. I don't think anyone expects super fine cinema from most horror movies though, and that in mind, it wasn't too bad really. From a technical point there were a couple super long camera shots (where a lot happens in one take without cutting) and I really like those, and the acting was ok. For giggles, it had one of the most lulzy ways to kill someone ever :D

I watched Taken in the cinemas, pretty entertaining.
Taken was awesome. No one I know has ever heard of it though. The plot was just a teensy bit cliched, but it was an excellent movie nontheless.
The last movie I saw was Kill Bill Vol. 2. I don't know which I liked more, the first or the second one. The first has a lot of Japanese which really confused me, but Tantino gave O'Ren such a great backstory, even in anime style! The only thing missing was O'Ren's revenge of the lanky dude who killed her dad.
The second one, however, explained a lot of things, and in the end it made me sad like no other violent gore movie ever has. D: It was a tad obvious that she knew the palm strike thingy though, and that she was going to use it on Bill.
Alvin and the Chipmunks. ZOMG, meh. Jason Lee got the shaft. I mean, I know I shouldn't expect him to the be the focus.

I LOVE renting movies from the red box <3 it's cheap and great!! screw paying 5 to 6 dollars or however much, we usually only watch it once anyways so $1 a night is great :D the downfall is the selection isn't always great :-/
anyways recent movies-
Indiana Jones and the blah blah blah- Truthfully I kind of expected to find this movie even the least bit enjoyable, I thought "maybe people just expected to much, it can't be THAT bad" plus since Shia LeBeouf was in it (considering I find him one of the better young actors) I thought i'd like it........well........I didn't. It sucked, action mostly sucked, story mostly sucked, there were some aspects that COULD have been potentially interesting but the execution and the end just.......sucked. anyways I have no interest in seeing it again.
Futurama Bender's game- I guess entertaining but I think Bender's big score was better
Also might I add where I live the red box isn't only at mcdonald's, it's at walgreens AND walmart. which is all pretty idiotic since all three location are on the same street.........

Last night I finally sat down and watched Eastern Promises. Wonderful movie, I liked the way the characters developed, you began hating some and growing to like them, and vice versa. I can see why a certain scene of the film (bathhouse) is so controversial, and I have to admit there was a certain ridiculousness to seeing Viggo Mortensen fighting two goons in the nude. He finishes the fight covered in so much blood and stab wounds, the nudity is just another tool to show the ruthlessness of the characters of the film. The final shot of the film gave me shivers.
I'm a big fan of Naomi Watts but I thought she was a bit absent throughout the film, even in the scenes she was in. I also thought her character could have been developed a lot more; a scene with her mother and uncle alludes to an interesting back story involving an interracial relationship and a failed pregnancy, but sadly nothing eventuates from this. I would've also liked a little more on the issue of the sexuality of one of the main characters, which is hinted at by a few of the antagonists and helps to build on the sense of uneasiness and distrust in the film, but again we are left to draw our own conclusions.
There were also other little issues I had with the film, including the characters' sometimes hard-to-understand Russian accents, and the fact that I had no idea the film was set in London as opposed to Russia until 3/4 into the damn movie.

All seven Children of the Corn films. For anyone who doesn't know, the basic premise is a cult of maize worshipping children who decide to kill off all the adults. Sounds dumb probably, but it works as a kind of pulp allegory in the original story at least. That version can be found collected in the book Night Shift.
As for the films? Bit of a waste of fourteen hours. The series has a bit of a supernatural touch, but it confounds me how so many film-makers thought it'd be the coolest fucking thing to have actual stalks of corn kill people! Did no one realise how laughably idiotic that sounds in conversation, and look in execution?
Anywho, I do have some positive words. The first film, truest to the original story by Stephen King, did a remarkable job of capturing the setting. Everything looked pretty much as I'd imagined it when I first read the tale. And besides a few funny moments, that's pretty much all I liked.
The second film was god awful in every respect. I discovered this five minutes in when a stalk of maize slit a man's throat as another launched itself through a car windscreen to impale a second miserable soul.
The third film probably stands out as my favourite.
The fourth was pretty meh. Not all that bad though for straight to DVD. It had some genuinely creepy moments if not the best plot. Surprisingly, this starred Naomi Watts.
The fifth (Fields of Terror) sucked. Brainless slasher. We've all seen this same group of young adults on a road trip before. Even if it does feature Eva Mendez and David Carradine <3
CotC 666: The Return of Isaac. Not that bad a film. I felt like it was the first one to connect with the original film and do a good job of it. Probably helps that John Franklin reprises his role as Isaac from the first film.
CotC Revelations. Another crap addition to the CotC lore. Ambitious for sure, it tires to build upon the history of series' antagonist quite unsuccessfully with a cast of unbelievable and downright stupid characters.

I bought Wanted today (<blink>spoilers ahead me hearties!</blink>) and it came in this sweet looking steel DVD cases. Not the cheap ass ones that Ezy-dvd tack on to every new release and call an 'exclusive offer'. Though it just has Angelina Jolie on it; I was fine with the film's poster which features Jolie much more prominently than James McAvoy, but it's ridiculous to just have her on the front cover of the DVD. I would be fine if it was some kind of collector's thing where they had different characters on different covers, but it's ridiculous how they have just pasted her on as the image of the film when she hardly has a presence in it.
Anyway the film. I think I enjoyed it more than when I did in the theatres, which is strange because I remember thinking that, although I really liked it, I probably wouldn't want to watch it again. I noticed a bit more to the performances, mainly with Morgan Freeman as the leader. You could tell now that there was a hidden motivation for what he was doing; the way he orchestrated not only McAvoy's character into doing what he wanted, but also the people that thought they were so much more educated and in-the-know than Wesley.
Some of the elements within this film are pretty ridiculous, but I really didn't have that much of a problem going along with it. The bullet-bending was a pretty cool idea, as was the Jedi-like deflecting of a bullet using another bullet. The concept of a loom that decides who will be assassinated would have been more believable if they showed some sort of justification to believing in it; that only the names of bad people, criminals, showed up but apart from the back story we're given to Jolie's character we don't get such an explanation. The movie did a good job of touching on this argument, that eventually everyone's name is going to show and everyone is going to have to be killed, but the ending doesn't really give any guidance as to whether Wesley is going to keep going with this loom trickery or if he will find another way of justifying being an assassin. Or even if he will continue to be an assassin.
A major ethical problem I have with the movie is how inhumane it is. Wesley is taken in by a Fraternity of assassins in order to be prepared, physically and mentally, to kill another person, by the members of this team who, for the most of the film, we are meant to see as righteous and lovable. Later however, when Wesley has left and is fighting against the group, he employs the same tactics he learned there; namely, rat-bombs. The message of films like these is usually that taking another life is fine, as long as they deserve it. Also, one of the major fight scenes takes place on a passenger train, which ends up derailing and falling down a cliff, yet we never see the other passengers as anything but another obstacle for the main characters to bend their bullets around. And they probably all died, judging by how violently the train crashed against the walls of the mountains.
The other problems I had with the film mainly had to do with the character of Wesley. His 'turn' was just too quick. His first encounter with the Fraternity is traumatic enough for him to think, and wish, it was just a dream but his boss pisses him off at work the next day, and that is enough to convince him that, yeah, it would be pretty cool to be a professional killer. The Fight Club-style narration is also a pain in the ass. Not really because of the actor, because McAvoy is pretty superb I thought, but just because it's an annoying technique. It was pretty important in merging the experiences of the audience and Wesley, though, at the same time, you're directing a movie, one of the actors of which is Morgan Freeman, and you decide that you want to have a narrator. The choice should have been pretty clear!
at first I was just gonna write a few lines but I got carried away

Wanted was one of those movies where I wish I hadn't read the source material first. Because when you see the unforgiving, unapologetic, debasement in Mark Millar's original idea you can totally understand why that version never made it to film. The friggin thing ends with the protagonist meta-arse fucking the reader; yeah, that had to go. I didn't think I'd ever want to see the film twice either, but your thoughts on it be persuasive, Mr Lukey.

Last few movies I saw include Moliere, which I loved loved loved. Romain Duris has become a favourite of mine, but despite his great performance here it's rivaled by a few others. I can't remember his name but the other main character, the guy who hires Moliere, is one of the better comedic actors I've seen in a while. In a scene he's dressed as a woman, yet is able to give me goosebumps when he delivers his dramatic lines. The same could go for the whole film, I suppose; a lot of it is about Moliere's desire to do tragedy but people just want to see comedy, so they just laugh when he does his serious work.
Yesterday I watched the Strangers, which didn't give me as much creeps as I thought but was still effective as a thriller, it was probably just that I watched it during the day with Friends on too loudly in the next room. Liv Tyler's voice always annoys me, as if she can't raise it above a slight whisper or something. A few of my friends were annoyed with the film not explaining the motive for the intruders but I think that's the message of the movie, that shit like this happens for no reason, that people just do it because it entertains them.
Like when the victim asks them why they're attacking them, one just replies "because you were home".
Very disturbing.
I have Casino Royale and The Assassination of Jesse James lined up for the next few days

Honestly, MEH. The beginning had my head swimming. SHUT UP ABOUT POLITICS AND CORPORATIONS! WHERE'S LEON ;_;;
It has some really cliche stuff in it:
Oh, the tyrant pauses for a moment because he sees a picture of his former self and his sister who's standing in front of him. Awwwww. BLECH
But, Leon kicking ass and getting his unrequited/interrupted love on is ace.
Hunnigan is in it!!!!!! <333333
Worth torrenting if you love Leon. I paid 3 bucks for it, so I'm happy. Only watch if you love Leon~

GO SILENT HILL!!
Also, I watched all of the Omen films and in my opinion, represent how competent horror should be done. The first three still give me the creeps even though I'd seen them before. The last two (Awakening and the Omen remake) were terrible though.

Watched a buttload of movies lately. Casino Royale, the Assassination of Jesse James, Sex and the City, Evening.
James Bond was brilliant, despite never being a fan of anything but the Goldeneye N64 game and not being a big poker nut. I thought Eva Green was the star, but Daniel Craig and Judie Dench were great in their roles also. I thought it would be a lot cheesier than it was, I liked how they relegated the outrageous names for their pseudonyms, and the way they took a pretty static narrative (it centres on a single bloody game of poker!) and injected enough action to keep it well-paced. I found the romantic scenes during slower stages of the film to be a bit of a bore, especially as they come so late. It's great but hasn't hooked me onto the series, not even sure when I'll see Quantum of Solace.
The Assassination of Jesse James was a mightily impressive one. Wasn't hot or cold on the Brad Pitt performance, never have been a fan of his. Too many times the Brad Pitt shone through and blurred the line between Jesse James and every other role's he has been in. Casey Affleck was the real star though. The way he bumbled and guffawed around when he was just a Jesse James nut was totally different to how he handled the later more sombre scenes. He plays innocence so well but then his dark side emerges and it's kind of terrifying. I've heard a lot of people complain about the film merely because of its length but I didn't see a problem with that; I think the way it cut the story up, like chapters of a book with the narration in between to fill in the blanks, really made it feel like a shorter film. When I reached the end I actually wanted it to go on.
Evening's another good one, expectedly so with the involvement of so many of my favourites; Meryl Streep, Hugh Dancy, Tony Collette, Patrick Wilson, and Michael Cunningham doing the screen play, which was one of the reasons I wanted to see it. Everyone fit into the roles so neatly, especially Hugh Dancy. His character was heartbreaking and charming but a pain in the ass at the same time. A lot of the big players of the movie were allotted only small screen time but they still manage to be so effective anyway, mainly Meryl Streep and Glenn Close. When she finds out her son is dead and she is crying with everyone just standing around watching her. It's as striking as the acting itself.

Rock N Rolla
Better than revolver. All style but no substance which isn't bad for a Guy Ritchie movie, slow paced and overtly long and not as witty and thrilling as Snatch or Two Smoking Barrels, a little too many characters who make the movie a bit of a mess until they all "meet" each other.
1 point for Abramovich

A Streetcar Named Desire, I think. It is very good, and it reminds me of Interpol because of that song Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down and the way Marlon Brando is all "Stella! Hey Stella!" I ended up loving that song on Last.fm as a result. Actually, now I realise the last film I watched was Escape From Wildcat Canyon, some family film about a grandpa and his grandson who crash a plane in a canyon and the grandpa is a WWII vet, but never told anyone, and then he bonds with his grandson as they ESCAPE THE CANYON. It wasn't very good but I like to finish stuff when I start to watch it.

Yeah, your probably right. Before watching it, I was in the comedy mood, and watched it with a bunch of friends. I should probably watch it a second time, which would give me another opinion about it....
