The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) - A slow burn thriller with an exceptional performance from Rebecca de Mornay. Heard she auditoned for the role of Tinkerbell in Hook but when she didn't get the part she decided to do something much darker. I'm glad she did. Had no idea Ernie Hudson starred in this. He did a great job himself. I did think the movie could have been a little shorter. Certain scenes which seemed to give unecessary thrills (like when Julianne Moore is darting through traffic) could have been cut. 3.5 out of 5.

Trilogy of Terror (1975) - A cult tv horror anthology starring Karen Black playing multiple roles in three stories written by Richard Matheson. The first one is a sordid tale of a college teacher and her student. The second segment details the drama between two seemingly polar opposite siblings, and the third, being the most popular, is about a woman trapped in her apt with a living zuni fetish doll.
The segments are done well but they are all pretty predictable, especially the second one. Black does well but she displays some of the most obvious slasher cliches in the final segment. 2.5 out of 5.

Flipped (2010) - I watched a romance movie for once. Granted most of it was family drama. The story followed Juli and Bryce as next door neighbors growing up. Juli began with an obsession with Bryce's eyes at first sight and began following him incessantly. This lead poor Bryce, 6 years old at the time(so was Juli), to run away from her. Thus began a chase-run relation for years. What was interesting was that the same story and timeframe were told by the 2 prespectives of the protagonists. The boy hated the girl until middle school, where their feelings for each other "flipped." It was an enjoyable view overall (

Ghost in the Machine (1993) - Saw this in theaters when it was released so I hold some nostalgia for it but it has aged terribly. Has quite a lot of virtual reality graphics (much like Lawnmower Man) but there are some decent and creative kills throughout. It's almost fun to watch how completely dated it has become in so little time. A bit tame for a horror movie though. 2 out of 5.

Prince of Darkness (1987) - One of the few John Carpenter horror films I had yet to see is a strange one in terms of structure as this one does not hold certain basics like a particularly strong benevolence to fight against. It's a container full of green swirling liquid meant to be the devil's essence.
The concepts in this film are intriguing but completely off the wall. The score works well as the story burns slowly and methodically. Carpenter's style is quite apparent though. 3 out of 5.

The Resurrected (1991) - Rewatched this rare horror film directed by Dan O' Bannon since I purchased the dvd recently. Based off the H.P. Lovecraft story "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". Does well with the imaginative creatures and strange gore but the camera work was a little amateurish. The ending wasn't great but most HPL adapted films end in the same way. 3.5 out of 5.

Watched a classic Sci Fi, Forbidden Planet. This film is praised with being the forerunner of all Sci Fi films and it fills that role perfectly. Great cast with the likes of Leslie Nielsen, James Drury (Of The Virginian fame), Walter Pigeon, Anne Francis and many others. I wholeheartedly recommend this for any Sci Fi fan. I'd give this a 5 out of 5.
Also saw Prometheus last night, and against what some people say that this is the prequel to Alien, it's not (Even Damon Lindelof, the scriptwriter said that it wasn't... but people disagree with him and Ridley Scott). I'd say it's more of a spiritual prequel, set in the same universe but doesn't follow what is known of the Alien movies. I wasn't expecting much, and I got that feeling again when the credits rolled. 1 out of 5.

Looper - Director Rian Johnson is coming along well so far in his career with a nice style, working with bigger name actors, and creating memorable movie moments. I didn't try to think too hard on the time travel concepts in the story. I just went along for the ride. I like the idea that the future looks almost the same with a few new trends here and there. Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks really transformed in this one compared with other roles. Action sequences are exciting and the cinematography really catches the eye. 3 out of 5.

It is absolutely atrocious and I am flabbergasted Adam Sandler is allowed to continue to produce such tripe. It was embarrassing to watch so I can't imagine how certain actors felt about it afterward (Pacino, Holmes, Depp).
It must have been intended but that line Pacino has at the end about "burning it" so it will never see the light of day are my sentiments exactly.

Liked it till the end...
If Tony could undergo surgery to remove the shrapnel embedded near his heart, why he didn't do it in Iron Man 2?
This scene makes useless everything he did in the second film (not telling Pepper and Rodney that he is dying for palladium poison, discovering his father unrealized project, create a new element).
Guess Disney wants to pull the "hero retried, bad guy threats/hurts hero's girlfriend, hero becomes hero again to avenge her" or "hero retried, bad guy starts wreaking havoc, hero's girlfriend convince hero to become hero again" cards in Avengers 2.

Part of me wants to see beyond the faults the film brought on, but I can't help but feel a little bogged down. My expectations were set a little too high. Mama (2013) - Decent new horror flick from first time director Andrs Muschietti. Though what really made me watch this was Guillermo del Toro's executive producer credit. Felt the thrills were there all the way up till the sentimental ending. I've heard complaints about the CGI in the film but it never bothered me and never felt out of place. The two little girls are the true stars of Mama. 3.5 out 5

Looker (1981) - Michael Crichton wrote and directed this sci-fi "thriller" which takes place in the world of advertising and unachievable good looks. I enjoyed the science fiction elements but the film is seriously lacking in the thriller department. I found much of the movie laughable and extremely dated. The premise is intriguing but plot holes along the way destroy its mystique.
But my biggest problem was that the last portion of the film builds absolutely no tension. One stupid song plays over and over the last 20 minutes. It bored me beyond belief. 1 out of 5.

Hehe. You're right on all points there. The BGM electronic theme never stopped. But I can't help myself - I still like this film. It has a strange quality about it. I like it in the same way I like Plan 9 from Outer Space, Battle Beneath the Earth, the Thing from Another Planet, Runaway (the Tom Seleck one). Tron (82) - if that makes any sense.

The Call (2013) - Halle Berry plays a 911 operator who must save a kidnapped girl (Abigail Breslin) from the grasp of a demented killer. Tension is key in this film as scenes are mostly told in close-up. The editing is concise and jarring which works well with the material. The story spirals a bit out of control towards the end but I don't watch movies to see reality. I watch them to see things which would never happen. 4 out of 5

The Unborn (2009) - Girlfriend was in the mood for another bad movie so we watched this piece of drivel. I should have realized it would be complete shit when I noticed David S. Goyer was directing. He may have written the three most recent Batman films but he can't direct his way out of a paper bag. He also wrote it which is surprising since the dialogue may have been the very worst thing about it. The only thing about it I enjoyed was the sight-for-sore-eyes Odette Annable running around in her panties. 1 out of 5.

Tales from the Hood (1995) - Decent horror anthology which follows three gangbangers who look to score some "shit" at the local mortuary. The segments are varied and well done. Clarence Williams III steals the show with his eccentric performance of the mortician Mr. Simms. While dated, you can really tell the director (also the writer and actor in the film) put some real effort into the final product. 3 out of 5.

The Last Exorcism Part II - The possessed girl Nell slowly recovers from the events in the first film while experiencing ominous supernatural messages from the demon Abalam and his cult-followers. Side Effects (2013) - Steven Soderbergh directs this intriguing dramatic tale. The powerhouse cast including Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum, each submerging and resurfacing in a sea of lies. While the acting is the highlight, there was a lull in the center as Law had to redevise a plan of attack. Also a great stage for a story like this. 3.5 out of 5.
Species (1995) - Hadn't watched this in quite awhile and the sfx had aged badly but I still had fun watching a very unclothed Natasha Henstridge evade capture from an oddly coordinated crew. Certain team members are almost completely useless (Alfred Molina) while others are more than intriguing to watch (Forest Whitaker). 2.5 out of 5.

Scalps (1983) - From the prolific B-movie "legend" Fred Olen Ray comes this badly cut tale about a Native American spirit which takes revenge on a group of young archaeology students. So much of the film is spent watching people travel from point A to B. Most of the score drowns out scenes where nothing is happening, and do I even need to mention the bad acting? Some might regard this as a 'so bad it's good' movie but really, it's just bad. 1 out of 5.
Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes (1989) - Surprisingly, this third Amityville Horror sequel was based off a book of the same name. It follows the evil as it cartoonishly escapes from one house to another in a creepy ass lamp. There it disrupts the home life of the Leacocks with a myriad of electrical and plumbing issues. For a tv movie it isn't that bad but it in no way lives up to the creepiness of the first few films. 2 out of 5.

Aftershock (2012) - What bothered me most about this disaster flick was not that it took 30 minutes to get to the earthquake nor the annoying characters but that many times the actors would be reacting to something off screen which would rarely be revealed. The CG looked terrible as well. 1.5 out of 5.
Killer Workout (1978) - Obscure 80s slasher about a gym plagued by murders. The soundtrack took over the muddled dialogue and there were more than plenty of pointless scenes of spandex clad hotties doing aerobics. Also probably one of the worst and most meaningless murder weapons in slasher history. 1 out of 5.
Home Sweet Home (1980) - A strange and dysfunctional family's thanksgiving dinner is interrupted by an mental institute escapee. Not much to say about this one. Annoying characters and no thrills whatsoever. Terrible lighting. Just bad period. 1 out of 5.

Despite taking place in our day and age, the characters all dress and act like it's a period film. The events flirt with you as you come to realize the family's dirty little secrets. 4 out of 5.

The story is pretty lame and full of plotholes (why the government keeps entrusting Michael Madsen to their most dangerous problems is beyond me). The CG is a little better than the last film but is still pretty terrible by today's standards. But the true highlight is the amount of gore and practical alien effects. They get the Kids' designs right but their mouths barely move and they're extremely creepy for children and adults alike. Am I the only one who wasn't taken by this film?
Technically it's gobsmacking, and it's a miracle of motion tracking, but the story really didn't grab me — partly because I didn't begin to care what happened to Bullock's character — or Clooney's, for that matter — and partly because, having studied physics at university, I was just too distracted by all the Bad Science (and there was a lot of it) that kept throwing me out of the film.

Carrie (2013) - This remake of the '76 classic is obviously meant for a wider audience of teens but despite that I think the actors did a great job. Julianne Moore is by far the best actor in this film. Her portrayal of Carrie's religious fanatic mother is oppressive.
Despite the efforts to downplay the looks of Chlo Grace Moretz, she is still too pretty for this role but she did a nice job with the painfully unsociable but entirely relatable Carrie White.
For fans of the original, there isn't too much new territory beyond some technological updates and while the expected climax is fun to watch, I don't think it lives up to de Palma's classic. 3 out of 5.

Interesting tidbit: the scenes of the outside of the Tijuana police station were actually filmed at the exterior of the Nogales, AZ Post Office. The house my mom currently lives in is just a short walking distance away. I've been to that PO many times.

Shrooms (2007) - Formulaic slasher about a group consisting of the usual fare (pothead, douchebag tough guy, fragile main girl, slutty friend, etc.) who venture into the woods for some drug-use.
The story tries to shake things up with the hallucination or reality? scenarios but it ends up confusing and inevitably boring and cliche. Slashers are generally cliche but this one offered almost nothing new to the genre. 1 smooth-talking cow out of 5.

Mischief Night - My gf and I sometimes like to take a chance on seedy looking horror movies we rent at Redbox. This one ended up being a decent watch for such a low-budget indie horror. The concept has been done to death but if this had been released in 1982 it would be a nice hidden slasher gem. Acting was pretty good as well. 2.5 out of 5.
The World's End - Heard mixed reviews on this one but I loved it. Extremely funny, well acted and exciting. I really enjoyed how long it took for the sci-fi element to take off. It gave a chance to familiarize with the characters. 4 out of 5.

Fallen Angels (2002) - I couldn't find this film on a google search of "Fallen Angels IMDb". That's how easily forgettable this film is. Instead I had to peruse through Michael Ironside's filmography.
Jeff Fahey also "stars" in this turd about a documentary crew killed off one by one by a hooded killer in their attempts to shoot at an abandoned reform school. Everything about this film is either shoddy, cheap or cliche. The only saving grace is all the hot tail in the film but even that is buggered up by the lack of nudity. 0 out of 5.

I may have chuckled once or twice but that was it. Scenes with Candy talking about his dick are literally bottom rung. 0 out of 5. Avoid at all costs.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 - The story is basically a play on Jurassic Park, it even recreates the scene of the tremors seen in the glass of water (this time a fat belly). The Last Slumber Party (1988) - Bottom rung slasher about an escaped mental patient in scrubs stalking a group of "teenagers" with a bloody scalpel. Trite I know, but it could have been fun. Sadly there was no fun to be had, only coma-inducing scenes of amateur filmmaking. 0 out of 5.
Terror at Tenkiller (1986) - Slightly more adult "slasher" about two women who are stalked by a killer on a weekend away at the lake. Nothing happens in this movie for 40 minutes, nothing interesting that is. Acting slightly better than Last Slumber Party but still an absolute cure for insomnia. 0 out of 5.
Punchline (1988) - Tom Hanks plays a character out of his nice guy typecasting in this funny and touching story of a housewife's desire to feel special and make people laugh. Damn, that sounded corny. Weird hearing Hanks say 'fuck' and be a complete jerk to people. Very well acted and written.

Old Boy (USA remake)
It wasn't all that bad as most people made it out to be.
My guess for people hating it: die hard fans of the original Korean version and also because it's a Spike Lee film (most people just hate Spike Lee because he's automatically racist?).
Compared to the original, it's got more gritty edginess to it. The violence is forceful and leaves an image in your head. The story is darker and leaves a foul taste in your head. Nothing is implied, it's all drawn out for you.
On it's own, it's very violent and twisted. It's a damn dark film. It's quite decent as a stand-alone film. I can see friends and family watching it and saying it was fucked up.
Differences?
Story is cut down drastically and really leaves nothing to the imagination.
The original version was sick with the incest. But it was more or less of an undertone. And compared to the American remake, it's very light.
The sister's death was very cheesy, as per Asian cinematic standards. If you really look back to that scene, it plays out like a college student project.
The camera shots are nice. But the quality of the lighting and care taken into the appearance of the shots are horrid. It's like daytime soap opera quality, visually, that is.
The American version appears as if it's trying to win an MTV Movie Award or Teen's Choice Award. It's very rich in color and the lighting overall fits without going drastically in a cheap direction.
In defence of the Korean version, the transition from the flashback to the real world was nice, though. But that entire scene wasn't aimed to win any graphics or "best editing" awards. It was only a plot point and a story marker. It doesn't have to be anything, visually.
The American version of the incest story was far sicker. The whole bloody family, fuck. I suppose with HBO's "Game of Thrones", you HAVE to step it up from just sibling incest.
American remakes tend to go overboard with story elements and go for the most extreme they can write.
Off-topic example of remakes going to extremes:
With the "re-imagining" of Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street", they removed the whole concept of that he could possibly be innocent and came for wrongful murder. No, in the remake, they make him an outright child molester/rapist. And they go to a very strong extreme to illustrate his character. A lot of Freddy fans didn't like this extreme direction. Although the remake did have a lot of strong "dream" elements to it. The micronaps, the tar/blood floor, the dream/brain facts, the pharmacist scene all added to its few positive points.
The Korean film is much greater at story telling than it is visually telling.
Visuals:
It doesn't provide nearly as much distinct visuals as the original Korean had.
The original version has a lot of quirky scenes that just put you out of place and confuse you. It's weird for a lot of visuals.
The American version takes those out and gives a reason to everything.
The famous grass+chest scene that we see in the original and the remake are completely different.
The original has the grass on top of a building. Which makes no sense, to use Westerner's at least.
I don't know, it might be a trend to have grass growing on top of your buildings in Korea.
My guess is it was either meant to be some abandoned garden or they just wanted to make Old Boy feel uncomfortable and confused when he first awakes from inside the chest. I mean, why even a chest? Why the grass? Why the top of a building? Is it all a metaphor I missed? Is it just to visually confuse you as well as the main protagonist?
No such questions to the American remake. Only one thing really stands out of the ordinary: that yellow umbrella.
The numbered marks: what do they present? Was it a clue as to how long he was intended to be locked up? I guess so.
Same way he marked himself. Which he never thought about the umbrella as he did it so the umbrella really serves no real purpose except to serve as an homage to the quirky visual styles of the Korean version (sans the flashback campiness).
Between the misplaced environments, the sorceress who hypnotizes the progratonist, and the squid, the Korean film is much more pleasing to watch and stimulates your entertained half of the brain. Even the opening scene is a huge stimulant as its done in a different film style than the rest of the film.
The opening scene to the Korean original was done with a cheaper camera and little to no "studio quality" as compared with the rest of the film.
It was improvised, unscripted, and established as a "documentary-style" camera shot.
It gave off a natural feel to the introduction of the character.
The opening scene to the American remake is all Hollywood. You don't get a solid placement of the character. He's like processed meat: no real substance.
The American remake just has good ol' Western cinematography. Nice shots, good camera angles. The sets are very normal, the costumes are very standard except for fucking SLJ.
There's really nothing to the film visually, except for its dark atmosphere.
And, these days, dark atmospheres are appealing and drawing in the audiences since Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.
The hallway fight scene:
Is much longer and more cinematically effective in the Korean version.
The American version seems much shorter. It's also not really a hallway either. It's three floors but we only get one long, continuous shot of two floors of fighting before it ends.
Mind you, the fighting style in the American version is very violent. It's quick and effective. When he wants to put someone down, he does with the least amount of time as we see earlier on in the film when he first gets out.
While it's neat to see him go floor-by-floor, I would have liked to watched a longer fight sequence.
However, I'm willing to bet American audiences won't stand for that sort of thing before they lose interest. Or the MPAA steps in.
Continuous shots, going floor by floor was dominated by Tony Jaa's "The Protector", so I guess Spike Lee didn't feel a need to go through some lengthy sequence. As long as he kept it for a continuous shot, he kept faithful to the original.
The bad guys:
Fucking SLJ's hair...
Seriously.
Also, the main bad guy has a chick for a bodyguard. That was neat. While it lasted.
The roles of the bad guys are cut down a lot in this version. You almost forget they're there.
Literally, everyone had a much longer story and played more to the sick game in the Korean original.
Oh well. I guess this is one strong focal point that Korean die hard fans target when they talk about the American version.
The bad guy's stories do add more to the effect.
But I guess with the sickest version that Spike Lee went for allowed for severe reductions in the bad guy business.
The ending:
Fucking SLJ's hair...
Seriously.
It was a neat ending. Very different than the original. Still effective.
I laughed when the end credits popped up.
It wasn't a tragic story. It was comedy.
The Korean original is tragic. Not funny, bro.
I suppose going to a hypnotist was extreme and surreal for American audiences that they decided to keep everything practical.
The original has some voodoo going on. A bit unrealistic but visually entertaining for aesthetic purposes.
You don't need an explanation for "ancient medicine" or mythological backgrounds to cultures still heavily in touch with their ancient ways.
(Most of) North America? Oldest medicine or "voodoo" is whatever is being advertised from that Lakota medicine commercials.
And whatever goes on in Mexico.
Box Office North America imports its ancient medical knowledge from movies with Jackie Chan or English (England) films that are time periods.
So this American ending is quite fitting and makes more sense, for its Western audiences.
Giving the original Korean ending requires people to suspend their disbelief and accept some form of voodoo in a film that didn't start out with any indication of sorcery being involved.
The acting:
Both protagonists are great actors.
Had Spike Lee went for a 2.5 hour story rather than a 100 minute compression, Josh Brolin would have had more time to flesh out his character.
USA: For a surprisingly short film, it sure takes a while to get into Brolin's character. He doesn't seem to be "real" until he finds the mouse.
Korean: The opening scene really gets you into the character. You know what type of person he is and isn't forced on you to be a Teen's Choice Award. Like it's really part of the story and feels like it belongs there and has to be that way.
The Monitor:
Done way better in the Korean original. No fucked up hair and not SLJ.
SLJ as an actor has gone downhill for the longest time. We all know it. All he needed in this film was a kilt and a golf club.
Fucking hair.
The main bad guy:
Much better in the Korean version. Still creepy in the American remake.
Perhaps someone like Guy Pearce and his creepy black gloves would have made a better antagonist.
Nothing outstanding for the guy in the American remake. It was just his story that gave him a stronger impact of a sick villain than the Korean original.
Judgement: Redesigned for the attention span of violent, rowdy North American audiences who want something as harsh as a Quintin Tarantino film but much under 2 hours.
I like the actors (but, fuck, SLJ's hair...) and the directing was decent. I would watch it again if a friend wanted to watch it.
In contrast, the film is a decent 6/10.
Alone, it's a good 7/10.
The original: 9/10.
The difference between a 6 and a 7 are quite huge, btw.

Thor: The Dark World - I tend to enjoy the more cosmic Marvel characters like Thor so I really enjoyed this one. Loki, of course, is the most intriguing character in the entire film. The comic relief of Kat Dennings is ever present. Though the showdown in the third act was a bit short-lived. 3.5 out of 5.
Dario Argento's Dracula - Argento hasn't made a decent film in years and this mess of a film proves it once and for all that he has lost his touch. It looks terrible, the sfx are second-rate, the acting wooden. When a film is seemingly made just to show off some 3D effects, it never turns out well (i.e. Craven's A Soul to Take). Some nudity here and there (including Argento's daughter Asia's) doesn't save it either. 0 out of 5.
Compliance - As amazing as it might seem, this film is based off true events. Inspired by a series of scams that spanned a decade, a fast food joint is targeted by a man impersonating a police officer who scams the manager into strip searching a female employee (among other lewd acts).
The film is absolutely cringe-worthy and left me with a sick feeling in my gut. One of those movies where you yell at the screen as people do some very stupid things but it all actually happened (many times over). 4 out of 5.

Driving Miss Daisy (1989) - One of those films I've seen parodied over and over but have never actually watched. Thought it was amusing and well acted. Also thought the make-up effects were very well done. Thought it might become a bit of a tearjerker but it never did. I enjoyed it but not much really happened in the film. 3 out of 5.
Mother's Day (1980) - Early Troma film with a very Last House on the Left type feel. Seedy and somewhat standard affair of three women camping in the woods who are kidnapped and molested by a backwoods family. They escape and plan their revenge.
Starts off a bit goofy but it soon becomes a difficult watch. By the end, the film is satisfying. 3 out of 5.
Thought the remake was better in this case.

Well hello...
The last movie i saw was indeed The Book Thief. Not as bad as all that - but full of problems. Namely the silly German accents, chocolate box cinematography and the fact that when Liesel is described as being, and I quote "filthy" by Emily Watson, she's clearly just stepped out of make up and looks radiant! Death's narration was pretty patchy too - kept forgetting about him hovering about over proceedings! Worse still, the occasional German word slips out - "Nein" and, err, "und" being two of the ones the director thought us 'clever' enough to understand, bless us!
Like I said - not all that bad!

Battle of the Damned - Dolph Lundgren plays a merc on a search & rescue mission in zombie town. And there are robots, which is a pretty cool concept for a zombie film though it's too bad it was so poorly executed. Thought some of the supporting cast did a decent job but many of the action scenes were laughable. 1.5 out 5.
Machete Kills - If you understand that this is a play on bad grindhouse films then you will be greatly entertained, as I was. Danny Trejo returns as the titular character with another strange cast (including Lady Gaga and Mel Gibson). The cheesy action is groan-inducing and absolutely hilarious. 3 out of 5.
Europa Report - Please don't compare this found footage space exploration film to Apollo 18 because it is nothing like it. This one is a slow-burn with great pacing and a creepy atmosphere. It's an interesting premise for an 80 minute movie but the camera barely moves and the characters bicker at one another to the point where you wish they would just kill each other and put us out of our misery.
The ending scene takes place in a pitch black room and stops abruptly when the characters apparently die. I find it hard to believe the camera operator wouldn't have turned on the night vision. Nearly all modern video cameras have that feature.
Though it was interesting to see how it divided the room I was watching it with. Some would have just called it in to the police and ended their responsibility there. Others would have followed the car far beyond their civil duty. 2 out of 5.

I LOVE that they went with the 'no-longer-canon'-crazy-even-for-a-religious-text-book version of 'Noah's Ark', but at the same time...
Eh, there just wasn't anything outstanding done.
The performances were all solid, with Hermine showing that she's going to be someone who's around till she either quits acting or dies of old age.
But, the CGI went from 'ooo, pretty' to 'wait, was this made for TV?'.
-I mean, SERIOUSLY, the fucking The Watchers looked good but then bad but then good.
Still, the story was kind of...eh.
The 'bad guys' weren't all that bad, with NOAH being the one who I didn't like the most at the end of it all.

HouseMD Season1.. all 6 discs.. (I reckon I oughta buy S2 now).
Note about me.. I've not watched actual TV (cable tv) since Desperate Housewives was brand new. Lack of interest, really... That said, I only watch
TV shows now(adays) in syndication vicariously through its dvd release. And even then..only if it's on interest. (ie: I bought Arrow S1 at Best Buy last
year--Black Friday--for $5. Why not!?).

Monsters University - Tbh I wasn't a big fan of the first film. It was okay but it's definitely low on my list of favorite Pixar films. I felt this one was a tad better. I actually went back after finishing the film to rewatch certain scenes (such as the opening and ending scenes). Though it was beautifully animated (of course) with sprawling scenes showing the scope of the monster world. 3 out of 5.

The Maniac remake with Elijah Wood. Enjoyed the gimmick of telling the story from a first person perspective but not a lot of depth to the actual film. Fantastic soundtrack though. Went out and picked up the excellent Death Waltz Records lp the same day.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods - I actually seen this last week, but it was a really good throwback movie to the series. It was pretty cool to have most of Funimation's voice actors to return as well. Definitely buying it when it gets released on blu-ray on October 7th. I kind of need to re-watch it anyways since everyone in the theater was really loud and rowdy throughout most of the movie, so I couldn't hear what some people were saying at some parts. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing it again anyways. :p

Cuban Fury (2014) - This was a throwaway Redbox rental but turned out to be one of the funniest films I've seen all year. It's refreshing to see Nick Frost as the title character rather than as Simon Pegg's buddy. He really held his own. The rest of the cast was great as well, especially Chris Dowd. A real underrated comedy. 4 out of 5.

Mr. Nobody
A boy stands on a station platform as a train is about to leave. Should he go with his mother or stay with his father? Infinite possibilities arise from this decision. As long as he doesn't choose, anything is possible.
I can see how some people would not like it, you will probably be confused until the ending (and even then you may still be). But I was satisfied with it's ending and the purpose of the movie and I think it was successful in what it wanted to show. You should see this movie if you have not already.

So I've finally seen the whole Hobbit trilogy...It was quite a spectacle, but it certainly wasn't Lord of the Rings, obviously. Sure it had some returning characters, but overall there was this grandiose inflation of war and the "Darkness" that I felt a little too overbearing. Too many subplots that didn't have to be interwoven. As I understand it, the producers wanted PJ to basically do another large scale epic, even though (and I think most would agree) that this would have best been condensed into one or two movies. I really wish Del Toro stayed on as writer and director, but I can't complain about the production of the films themselves, because they are well made, yet bloated too.
One more thing I'll add, the real problem with these movies is how much feels like filler. With Lord of the Rings I counted it as one giant film. I loved each part equally. With the Hobbit, I feel like I really enjoyed only certain scenes (Like Gollum's riddles, Smaug and Bilbo). If I chose an order: the 3rd one the most, then the second, then the first, and that isn't saying much. I'll go back rewatch 'em all (special editions of course) and see what I think then.

Definitely one better films I've seen, IMO the relationship between Vincent (Tom Cruise) and Max (Jamie Foxx) is amazing. The ending could have been a bit longer, but otherwise a fantastic film. Wish I found out about it sooner.
