Holy Mountain (1973) - Alejandro Jodorowsky directs and stars in this highly metaphorical masterpiece about the spiritual trek of a thief. It truly is a meal for the eyes, though it depends on the viewer if it's seen as a feast or a rancid bite. I for one was amazed at the amount of imagination put forth throughout the film. Even though I didn't understand one bit of it, I appreciate it for its pure creativity.

Giallo - In Dario Argento's latest thriller, Adrien Brody stars as Enzo, an inspector in Italy on the trail of a tortuous murderer who picks up his victims in his taxicab. The title is a play on words as Argento specializes in the giallo genre but the film wouldn't exactly fall into that category. The word instead pertains to something important in the storyline.
I honestly think Dario has lost his touch since his last few films have not lived up to the greatness of his work in the 70s and 80s. Giallo has a low budget and amateurish feel to it, the acting is very poor and the story isn't interesting whatsoever. The film lacks gore but what you do see is done well enough. I would only recommend this to hardcore Dario Argento fans.

28 Days Later. [4/5]
I loved the beginning and the car travel but it really fell apart for me when the army stuff became center focus. The vast lonesomeness of the start and how everything was shot at an angle really worked and the tension of the group being attacked, because they have to get attacked at some point made every scene in the road trip act tense. But then they had to go the man and military is the real evil route and kinda fucked it up.
1. these zombies are a huge threat, they're alive and agile. I wanted more of them.
2. The movie started off as a we need to work together and cooperate thing but ended as a death to everything that's not with you moral code which wouldn't have been as bad if not for the fact that the movie looked down on Selena's brutality.
3. What the hell kinda plan is that? free the monster? Even if it didn't kill the girls first what makes you think you'll be able to get out now that half of everyone wants to shoot you and the other half wants to bite you?
All that aside I enjoyed this and the cast was great.
One more thing what did the dad do with his riot armor? Why didn't he take it with him?

The Good, the Bad, the Weird
Dir. by Kim Ji-woon, who did A Bittersweet Life (not your typical Asian gangster film) and A Tale of Two Sisters (not your typical Asian horror film) comes an Eastern Western (i.e. not your typical cowboy Western film). It was Excellent. And side splitting funny in places. Highly recommened all 3 of those films.
And make sure and watch the alternate ending, it was much better than the theatrical ending. :)

Paranormal Activity 2 - It's nice how they tied the story from the first one in to this. The film pretty much stuck to the same formula as the first one with loud bangs and slamming doors out of nowhere. Just a lot more of the same, though it was an enjoyable enough theater experience.
Full Metal Jacket. The first act is by far the best part of the movie. Although it's still a pretty good movie, it goes downhill after about the first forty minutes.

It's about Dr. Henry Jekyll's maid, stars Julia Roberts, John Malkovich, & Glen Close. I'd recommend seeing it at least once though maybe I was restless or something because it didn't seem as good this 2nd time, Julia Roberts just kinda stares blankly a lot of the time.

Zombiethon (1986) - Not necessarily a film, more like a collection of clips from zombie movies. There are a few original scenes intercut with the rest of the film showing scantily clad women being led against their will to a movie theater where the clips are being played. It starts out fun with such films as Zombie, Zombie Lake, and Oasis of the Zombies but quickly degenerates to movies like The Invisible Dead and Astro-Zombies. It's available on Netflix Instant Play if you're very bored and have nothing else better to do.
Shock (1977) - In Mario Bava's final feature length film a family disintegrates when they move into their new home. The mother (Dario Nicolodi) starts seeing and hearing strange things, the son begins acting strangely and the father tries to keep it glued together. The title fits as there are many shocking moments, some cheap at first but they lull you into a false sense of security as the real shocks are yet to come. The secrets of the story are easily deciphered early in the film, leaving the ending moments kind of boring. Also I can't stand the young son in this. I dislike most kids in movies but with the added dub he's unbearable to watch.

Fear Dot Com - A story similar to The Ring about a website that kills within 48 hours of visiting it. It really made little to no sense and scenes seemed to just come out of nowhere without any explanation as to why characters were there. The sfx were pretty awful and while there are a few creepy scenes here and there, it's just too damn dark to see anything. I mean you would think that to perform an autopsy you would need at least one light but not in this movie. Most of the action was missed due to the terrible lighting. The ending is also terribly abrupt. 2 out of 5.

Paprika - Great imagination and colorful scenes in this one from Satoshi Kon. I appreciated certain components from the film more such as the writing, voice acting and music more after seeing a few of the special features on the dvd. 3 out of 5.
The Sentinel (1977) - So many great 'names' in this one including a young Christopher Walken and Jeff Goldblum. A nice mystery laid out about an up-and-coming model who moves into a new apt that just so happens to be a gateway to hell. Though the mystery is revealed too quickly and haphazardly towards the end. A few scary moments as the model (Cristina Raines) deals with strange happenings in the building. 3 out of 5.

I loved this. The film was filled with subtle metaphors that only revealed themselves if you paid very close attention. What was left unsaid was often more important that what was said or shown. The editing was sublime. It was a study of friendship and connection through isolation as well as being a vampire film. Recommended to lovers of foreign cinema.
I fear the lack of faith the Hollywood system has in its audience’s ability to understand emotions told through imagery will mean the remake will be diluted to the point where it will be just another crap horror remake.

My second vampire film in less than a week and again very far removed fom the typical notion of vampires we're all familiar with. This Korean film was just plain bizarre. Splice - I didn't love this film for some bad acting and the substitution of important story details with technobabble but there were some nice twists and turns later in the story. 2.5 out of 5.
Phantoms (1998) - Based off a Dean Koontz novel of the same name comes this snorefest about a town decimated and overrun by an unknown terrestrial evil. I literally fell asleep three different times trying to finish this one. The dialogue and acting are terrible (with the exception of Liev Schreiber). I honestly think this would have turned out better as a B-movie. 2 out of 5.
The Gift (2000) - A very well acted film with a small story about a psychic involved in a missing persons investigation. The cast is tremendous with Cate Blanchett, Giovanni Ribisi, Keanu Reeves, Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes and Hilary Swank. And while a main selling point of this film seems to be a topless Katie Holmes, I really enjoyed it for the story and acting. I was also surprised by the directorial range displayed by Sam Raimi as this contains no sharp camera and editing moves, it's simply a well filmed and directed movie. 5 out of 5.
Cemetary Man (1994) - A strange little flick starring Rupert Everett as a young Cemetary keeper who has to deal with the just buried coming back from the dead. The action and gore is very comedic and Everett plays the character very blase to the frightening events at hand. I enjoyed it for the most part but the ending left me puzzled. Begs another viewing. 3 out of 5.
Monster Dog (1984) - Alice Cooper stars as rocker Vincent Raven on his way home where a series of brutal animal killings have set his neighbors on a witchhunt for the supposed culprit. This film is a true cure for insomnia, putting me to sleep on more than one occasion. You end up seeing the monster maybe a total of 15 seconds in the entire film. Also Cooper is a complete bore and looks absolutely bizarre without his makeup. 0 out of 5.
Event Horizon (1997) - It's been awhile since my last viewing so I decided to give this another watch and I was not disappointed. The only true gripe I had was some dated visuals. The story is intriguing and suspenseful throughout but what I enjoyed the most was the production design. The Event Horizon looks like it was designed by madmen, everything looks either dangerous or frightening to the touch. 4 out of 5.

I've seen Part 1, I liked it. I don't know what they mean by rushed. There's only so much you can do, unless you want to make three movies. There were some very moving moments and I thought they handled the source material well. I especially enjoyed the way that they presented the Tale of the Three Brothers.
Well, if it means anything, those same friends also thought the visuals in Prince Caspian looked corny :P I'm anxious to see Part 1 :)

The visuals in Prince Caspian "looked corny"? :D On the whole, I liked Prince Caspian, though if I had one main problem with that film, it wasn't the visuals, it was just that I felt that the actor that they cast as Prince Caspian didn't exactly light up the screen.

I've read Lewis' God in the Dock more than once and I'm not convinced he was the "traditional" Christian he is perceived to be. Maybe his purpose in the Narnia books was to introduce themes that kids were then to explore as they got older? Moving onto his own Out of the Silent Planet, perhaps?
I haven't seen the films so have no idea how they deal with it. Are they filming all of them?

There are still religious references, though they're not really any heavier than the books. The most recent one does still include Aslan's line at the end, that in our world he is known by "another name" and that Lucy and Edmund must come to know him by that name. I've heard that his Mere Christianity is very preachy.
Are they filming all of them?
They'd like to, but they were already dropped by Disney and had to find another distributor. Dawn Treader only made about $25 million domestically this weekend, by far the smallest take for any of the Narnia films so far. So it's not looking good for The Silver Chair.

I do intend to watch the films sometime as I loved the books as a kid. I watched the old animation again recently and despite not being as well animated as I remember it was still fun and filled with nostalgia for me.
Lewis is an interesting individual and, I think, a great linguist. I love the quote when he describes his early years as an atheist, as being "very angry with God for not existing". While not as ambiguous is his faith as Blake, I still think he was a little subversive at times and that he was challenging us to carry out our own research and come to our own conclusions.

I think you mean The Magician's Nephew and The Silver Chair. The Magician's Nephew is a prequel work, the other one comes after Dawn Treader. The books weren't all released in order, so it's confusing. The final book is The Last Battle and there's also The Horse and His Boy, which was set within the time of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but featured different characters, mostly.

Daft Punk's - Electroma
I actually didn't know about this film until today. It stars our favorite robot duo as they give a try to become human. But as they realize that they are not 'human after all', they wander off into the desert never to return.
For all of you who are familiar with our duo of Daft Punk, you know that they don't speak (well not really)....... So yup, an hour and nine minutes of no dialog..... But there is some music with words in it, just not Daft Punk's music...
This film is slow, drawn out, and slightly confusing. BUT IT IS very interesting, well paced, and visually confusing (but in an arty good way). I think that if the film was cut down at all, it wouldn't work as well as it does. This film is in a sense very simplistic but when you think of the visual aspects and how they achieved them it's not so simplistic anymore. The ending is very pretty..... I give this a
3.7/5. Even if you don't like Daft Punk's music or if you know nothing about them, that won't have any bearing on if you would enjoy it or not.

I enjoyed it. Never really watched the cartoon so I'm not a real fan so most of the silly changes didn't bother me all that much.
The 9th Doctor played Destro, Ray park played Snake Eyes, The guy who played the Mummy played Zartan, Brendan Fraser had a few quick scenes, and I was surprised that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in it.
Ninja stuff was the best and the power suits looked stupid, like they were just running in place and added a background with no care in syncing the 2 up. Destro's mask looked really shitty.
I wasn't a fan of how the women where whoreish. The Wayans brother was just being his usual loud dumb black act but that won Scarlett over for no good reason and they hardly had any screen time together. Then Baroness was with like 4 guys but she was mind controlled so she was really a bad girl. What was up with that? She wasn't even Russian or black haired or evil or used corrective glasses. Those are all of her selling points.

Now, I'm not arachnophobic by any means, but "ick". There's quite a bit in this movie that makes my skin crawl.
Fun, fun, fun scare tactics in this one.....and John Goodman is always a treat.....well, almost always.

Last saturday I saw once again the final James Bond-Film of Timothy Dalton: "Licence to Kill". One the one hand the films of Dalton are not very well known but on the other hand I like his interpretation of 007. The films don't have as much humor as Connery and Moore, but someting of more realistic.

Not a bad remake and John Travolta played the role of villain quite well, opposite Denzel Washington's character.
Ben-Hur, for about the fifth time. I hope no horses were harmed in the making of this film, but I doubt that's the case. Great movie nonetheless!

It's a 1994 film based on New Zealand author Alan Duff's bestselling 1990 first novel. The film tells the story of an urban Māori family, the Hekes, and their problems with poverty, alcoholism and domestic violence, mostly brought on by family patriarch Jake. Great movie.

I watched that a couple years ago. The husband and wife would later play Jango Fett & Taum We in Attack of the Clones. I was surprised Temuera Morrison's got some range to him in that, a pity he almost never get's to use it in anything else I've seen him in.

The movie had the crew head to the fictional resort of Costa Plonka, in Spain due to 'Young Mr Grace' giving them all their annual leave at the same time, as renovations were being done to Grace Bros. The one you're referring to I think is called 'Grace and Favor' (in America was renamed to 'Are You Being Served? Again!'). The new series has the elderly and womanising "Young Mr Grace", head of Grace Brothers department store, recently deceased while scuba-diving on holiday in the Caribbean with his personal secretary, Miss Jessica Lovelock. As per the instructions in his will, the remaining workers at Grace Brothers' closing sale (coincidentally, most of the staff who were present in the original series) are named co-beneficiaries of his estate.

I never asked my dad if there were any pics.....I should. When he first told me that story, I was like 17 or 18. Not really what I want to hear coming from your father. Dad and the bunnies. awkward.

Somewhat of a tribute to the '80's horror film with plenty of 'yuck' moments. A refreshing change from most of the crap that passed for "horror" in the past decade or so. The cast is boring to watch and it reeks too much of trying to be more than it is. Thankfully Roth gets it right in his next movie, "Hostel".
