I overanalyze things. Some would say I'm paranoid.
According to some of my ideas, others would call me a paranoid, conspiracy nut.
I am intrigued. Make a thread detailing these ideas, if you feel so compelled.

Well, I don't want to get into detail about it, but I will say that these conspiracies involve 9/11, NWO, the Illuminati... y'know, that kinda stuff. I like hearing about other conspiracy theories, but I am very cautious and picky about what I believe in...

Friday the 13th (remake) - I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical about any sort of redeeming value this film might have, but I was proven wrong. It was well filmed, suspenseful, and humorous at the right moments. Another thing I enjoyed is that it wasn't a shot-for-shot remake, but a successful re-imagining, so the movie seemed fresh while still sticking to the Friday the 13th formula of young cocky 20-somethings getting slaughtered.

Shiver (Eskalofro) - A nice Spanish thriller about a young man suffering from photophobia. Him and his mother move to a village in the mountains where the days are shorter, but as soon as they do, murders start up and guess who they blame. I liked the film but I felt that the twist came too early and after it, the movie became less and less suspenseful.

I finished watching Taken last night and I really liked it. The film was very precise and to the point just like the character Neeson plays. Also I was very happy that there was no twist at the end. And I just finished watching War and I didn't like it. It was very confusing, the twist was way too hard to believe and it didn't end with any impact at all. Also I was expecting a lot more action between Jason Statham and Jet Li which there was very little.

The Hangover and Transformers 2 were fucking awesome, for entertainment purposes.

One of my favorite films also question
In your copy (I have both VHS and DVD), the Arabian Nights song at the beginning of the movie the lyrics are changed from:
"Where they cut of your ear, If they don't like your face" (This is on my VHS copy)
to
"Where it's flat and immense, And the heat is intense" (This on my DVD copy)

Asamiya, sorry, but I call bullshit. When it is at its best, Harry Potter really is that great.
Dragons comprised entirely of green and gold sparks were soaring up and down the corridors, emitting loud fiery blasts and bangs as they went; shocking-pink Catherine wheels five feet in diameter were whizzing lethally through the air like so many flying saucers; rockets with long tails of brilliant silver stars were ricocheting off the walls; sparklers were writing swear words in midair of their own accord; firecrackers were exploding like mines everywhere Harry looked, and instead of burning themselves out, fading from sight or fizzling to a halt, these pyrotechnical miracles seemed to be gaining in energy and momentum the longer he watched.
"We won't be seeing you," Fred told Professor Umbridge, swinging his leg over his broomstick.
"Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch," said George, mounting his own.
Fred looked around at the assembled students and at the silent, watchful crowd.
"If anybody fancies buying a Portable Swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three Diagon Alley -- Weasley's Wizard Wheezes," he said in a loud voice. "Our new premises!"
"Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat," said George, pointing at Professor Umbridge.

I watched The Haunting in Connecticut again and I love it. Nowadays, since I have Netflix, I rate most films with the five star system they have: one star = you hate it, two stars = you didn't like it, three stars = you liked it, four stars = really liked it, five stars = you loved it. And initially I rated this a four and for the film I still do, but with all the great added features like two feature length commentaries and great featurettes, I'm bumping it up to a five.

Tonight I watched Quantam of Solace because it was the last night I have the huge motherfuck of a TV before my old roommate comes and gets it tomorrow morning. And it was pretty good, but being a big time lover of Casino Royale I was a little disappointed that this film didn't blow me away like that one did. Even though this movie's story focused on emotions and revenge etc., the characters felt a lot colder and unrelatable than those in CR. I loved most of the fight scenes though, and especially the editing of the Opera house section and the final showdowns.
I bought a Robert Redford DVD compilation last week and watched two of the films; Indecent Proposal, absolute shit, and Barefoot in the Park, absolutely charming and wonderful. I still have The Great Gatsby to watch but I want to get and read the book before I see it.
Beaches was on at a friends' house the other night, but we were drinking and playing pool and chatting etc through most of it, even though I really wanted to watch it. I bought it on DVD the day after so I'll sit down to watch it sooner or later.

No, it was and it wasn't sad! If you've been through or had someone close to you go through cancer and cemo treatments, it'll really hit home like it did my GF! It's one of those stories were things aren't what they seem, and slowly connect to the really big picture! In terms of storytelling it's okay, not really that original, but it does keep your interest going. One thing though, it seems like they really went out of there way to cover all the "Chick Flick" bases on this one!
In all, I recommend seeing this one only if you like chick flicks, or be reminded of the struggle of going through cancer and cemo, or you really want to score major brownie points from your GF by showing her your "sensitive" side! lol

Green Lantern: First Flight - I'm surprised that Green Lantern took this long to get the animated film treatment knowing how much of a wealth of story potential there is within. The story is epic, the action is heart-pounding, the humor is great, and the imagination is limitless with the powers of Green Lantern. Though there were some scenes where I felt the animation wavered and Green Lantern's origin was a bit too condensed for my tastes, but besides these two minor flaws, it is by far my favorite DC animated film so far.
The Messengers 2: The Scarecrow - I'm sure most people won't give this film a chance since it's a straight to dvd prequel but it is actually quite decent. The acting, cinematography, music, and pacing is very well done. And while the scarecrow is quite effective as merely an idol, when it becomes a monster, it's quite laughable. And I would like to commend the casting choice for the great Richard Riehle. To be honest, he was the main reason I watched this.

Graduation Day - I was pleasantly surprised by this 80s slasher. It was well filmed and edited with great psychological turmoil represented in the film. There were certain scenes that I felt were reminiscent of Argento's camerawork as well as scenes from Carrie. The deaths for the most part are the weak point of the film but most slashers have implausible deaths which are simply fun to ridicule. And it was interesting to see an early performance from scream queen Linnea Quigley as Dolores. Recommended to all slasher fans.

My friend dragged me to go see it!
As I said, it was craptacular!!!
BUT...
I did somewhat like it -I know I should be shot for saying so- I guess cause I had such low expectations for it, that I set the bar so low that it exceeded all my expectations for it!!!
The story was crappy, but I did like how they set up the formation of cobra! I tried so hard to leave my fanboy thoughts of perfection, but once they screwed with so many details with what made the characters who they were, i just couldn't resist but to tear it up!!!
In the end, I'd probably check out the sequel if they made it, just to see if more of my fave characters are brought out, such as: Bazooka, Roadblock, Dusty, Shipwreck -with a name like Hector X. Delgado and being from Chula Vista CA, he was the token mexican!!! lol-, Junkyard & Mutt, and Spirit & Freedom!
Horsemen. And it was soooooo cliche. I figured out the antagonist in the middle of the movie, and its supposed to be a detective movie.

It has a great concept for a comedy: guy is going to get married but doesn't have a good enough friend to call his best man so he must search one out. And the cast is one of the best with Paul Rudd, Jason Segal, Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Jon Favreau, Thomas Lennon, and the list goes on. And one thing I loved about it is the comedy isn't vulgar or shocking, it's purely conversational comedy much like The Office.

Watched The Class the other night. So well-made, it did a great job of creating the love/hate relationship between students and teachers. I really want to track down the book so I can see which parts are true and not. Also, one of the 'skank' girls was sooooo ugly.
Went to see the new Harry Potter last night and thought it was alright, my favourite of the films so far is still OotP. I can't really remember a great deal from this book so a lot of the time I was trying to remember if certain parts actually happened or not. Had some great action, especially the battle outside the Weasley's house (Lupin's only scene! wtf) and Dumbledore twirling the fire like whoa. I love that they had a lot more Draco and Snape than previous films. After that I bought a poster of The Class for two bob!
And today I watched Watchmen for the 7th time.

It's the better sci-fi film that replaced Peter Jackson's Halo.
It revolves around oppressed aliens stranded on Earth and a government man that comes to sympathize with them after being exposed to some alien biological agent. It's an interesting docudrama to start, though the latter half is filled with summer blockbuster violence. It's modern day setting so it's not very sci-fi besides a few aliens and their tech.

The Tigger Movie. Not anywhere near the most entertaining or engaging of the Pooh films to be sure, but still reasonably decent. I checked out the 10th Anniversary Edition from the library, though I'm pretty sure I've watched the original DVD release before and I don't think there's much on this one that wasn't on that one. BBC America / WGBH's Oliver Twist. Well, I suppose it was really more of a TV mini-series, but it was presented on DVD as basically a continuous film. Good stuff. I was interested in it because it had Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew - Harry Potter series) in it.

Beowulf & Grendel, and for once a movie was made to follow the original tale as closely as it possibly could. I still like the 13th Warrior more for it's realistic telling of the Beowulf story, but Beowulf & Grendel is much better than that CGI movie that was made.

Inglorious Basterds was indeed very good. I know Tarantino considers it his masterpiece, but I have to say I think Pulp Fiction is still king there. Mainly, I think some characters went a little underused, particularly many of the "basterds" themselves, but I don't have many other gripes at all.

The Last House on the Left (2009) - Another re-imagining I didn't expect much from except prettier faces and less violence, but it actually does pretty well. For those of us who have seen the original, it's nice to see that things don't play out the same in this one, so there's more suspense later in the film. The casting is well done, especially the choice of Sara Paxton for Mari Collingwood who looks like the innocent girl-next-door we all know and love. As I have seen the original, I knew something terrible would be happening to her at some point in the film, and I cringed at the thought of it. The pacing is also done well for the story establishes the killers right away and then the victims (both relative terms in this movie), while we all anticipate the crossing of their paths. The violence was tastefully done yet still shocking IMO as the filmmakers went along the lines of "what we imagine is more terrible than what is seen". Though there was one scene in the original that I was disappointed didn't make it into this one, and I think we all know which one I'm talking about, especially the men. But alas the ending didn't do it for me. It felt unnecessary, over-the-top, and completely implausible which made it laughable. While this version is good, I still recommend the original to this one.

Just finished watching 2046 on loan from the local public library. Little slow in getting where it was going, but I was pleased when it got there.
Last film I saw in the theater was District 9. Highly recommend it. It sort of lapses into more traditional movie-mode in the second half, but it executes it much better than most Hollywood movies (which have become terrible parodies of themselves), and the first half was really well done.
And even though it isn't relevant, the film I saw before that in theaters was Ponyo. Not sure where I would place it among Miyazaki's canon, but it would be somewhere in the top half. Lovely animation.

Inglourious Basterds, without a doubt Tarantino's best yet, though I agree with Ktulu that a lot of the Basterds didn't get the screentime they deserved. I simply loved each and every scene. And some girl was throwing up next to my friend right after it ended!
Adam, I wanted to love this movie so much but there were so many parts that kept annoying me. Mainly Rose Byrne and Peter Gallagher, but also the music in parts, and simply the fact that it's just a romantic comedy when it could've been so much more. I'd still recommend seeing it.
A Very Long Engagement. So much better than Amelie, IMO. I thought this was like a better version of Atonement, even though it's older than that film, and I love that film too. Without trying to sound silly, I felt like I had been strangled with emotion by the end of it.
Hoping to see the September Issue this week!

I think it's only my first or second time watching a film in full screen (and by fullscreen I mean wide screen-- as in filling the entire monitor) on my new monitor and with my new computer. The look of the film is brilliant. Truly a joy to watch. For those that saw my comments about Emperor's over in the other thread-- that's one of the reasons why it's not a new top favorite. Sole Survivor - 1983 horror flick in the same frame of mind as Carnival of Souls and Final Destination where a woman is the sole survivor of a plane crash and then is hunted down by undead harbingers of death. It was rather refreshing to see a 80s horror movie that didn't involve horny teenagers and actually took itself seriously for once. I felt the film was shot, paced, and acted well for such a low budget movie. It was creepy and subtle which was a nice change of pace from most in-your-face horror films of today. Other than the flat ending, it was a pretty good watch.

Saw District 9 today, thought it was awesome. Wikus is probably my favourite film character of recent times! The shots of the alien station hovering above Johannesburg were so disturbing, they looked that genuine. And the baby alien, so fucking adorable!
I watched Hannibal Rising tonight, always enjoy the Hannibal stories and this one was OK. Silence of the Lambs is one of my favourite films of all time so it would be great if the susbsequent were able to live up to it, but I'm satisfied with the way they all add to the mythology of the character. The samurai subplot was silly though. Gaspard Ulliel is a dream

Wikus is great. I like that they didn't stick him into one typical archetype, he's kind of fickle and that actually makes him more believable to me. That's how people fucking are. Emotions can turn on a dime. One minute you're self serving, one minute caring and sentimental, blah blah.
Saw Extract - not bad. Slow, subtle humor though, it's not something you're gonna howl through. I'm not sure it's gonna be some huge hit out of the box, but will probably find it's audience along the way.
Oddly, I was the youngest person at my screening by...I'd guess 40 years. Nothing but a bunch of old couples in there. Ooooold couples. Was this only advertised on CBS or something? I'm no AGEIST but I just didn't figure this movie to be the type to draw the old folks.

The OC of course, a show I've never seen nor desire to. The premise reminded me a bit of Tobe Hooper's Toolbox Murders which I have a slight fondness for so I tried this one out, and I'm sorry I ever did. For an hour and a half movie, it moved extremely slow, the acting was atrocious and laughable, even Deborah Kara Unger's performance surprised me as being sub-par. The story is filled with plot holes which make the film hard to watch and understand. The film is filled with cliche including the sometimes creepy, but here just annoying, whispering young ghost girl voice. I do not recommend this film to anyone, even fans of The OC.

And on that note, the last movie I saw was the remake of [REC], Quarantine and it was quite terrible. Now, being a fan of the original Spanish film, I compared everything to it. First of all, the movie is not a complete shot-for-shot remake, there are some different scenes here and there that are quite nice, but it doesn't make up for the rest of the film. Also the film feels slow compared to [REC] and this is because of the editing. They linger too long when they should be cutting. Another thing I didn't like was the darkness. This made it feel like they were in some cheap haunted house, it didn't add to the scares, it just made it harder to see. Now, I loved Jennifer Carpenter in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, but in this film she fails. She plays the character too weak and whiny. The original actress of Manuela Velasco played it so strong that she could hold her own against the male actors. And the ending scene of the original is probably one of the scariest and creepiest things in horror film history, but in Quarantine it is rushed and third-rate. Anyone planning on seeing this should just go see [REC] and forget about this movie.

i agree i saw quarantine before [rec] and it wasnt that bad. but when i watched rec i was amazed that A) its completely superior B) it was still scary even though i knew what happens

The characters were neat (yay, numbered!) but the story was slapshod and the actions scenes looked like they were directed by Michael Bay. I couldn't follow them for the life of me.
It was like "let's go back to the room!" but then all of sudden, they're off to kill the Machine, and we get a fake ending, and THEN they go to the room. That really annoyed me.
At least it wasn't super preachy like most movies of this sort. That's a plus. If the characters were used in a much better story it would be cool.

The Alphabet Killer - I'm a fan of most serial killer films and having not heard of The Alphabet Killings, I was intrigued. The film was well played out through the first half but I felt it failed more and more as it went on. And the ending was a bit abrupt and strange to me. The acting was the best part as Eliza Dushku's acting was great in this for she played a crazy woman extremely well and Cary Elwes and Timothy Hutton were a great supporting cast. Another thing I liked was the creepiness factor from the film. There were times when I would get chills from certain scenes. And there seems to be a major gripe for some who have seen the film. This is that the factual killings took place in the early 70s and the film blatantly uses recent technology such as cell phones and laptops in the movie, but the film never states that it takes place in the 70s, it's merely based on the killings, it is not a period piece.

Observe and Report - I basically expected OaR to be a rated R version of Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but it was so much more. While the film had comedic scenes that were shocking, my real surprise and attraction to the film were the dark and heartfelt scenes sprinkled throughout the film. Seth Rogen is a comic genius and he really created a unique character in Ronnie Barnhardt. I hope to see more from director Jody Hill.

Jack-O - An extremely low budget film starring Linnea Quigley about a lineage terrorized for ages by a cheesy looking monster with a pumpkin for a head. Everything about the movie screams BAD but it's actually a fun watch if you have a sense of humor.

The Dead Pit - An 80s zombie flick from director Brett Leonard (The Lawnmower Man) about an evil doctor who returns from the dead along with the undead patients who he experimented on. It's 80s horror so you can't really get mad at it, but it's not really much fun to watch either which can be the saving grace for a bad horror film. Though the dvd is surprisingly well prepared w/ four interviews from cast & crew along with a feature length commentary.

9. I liked it and hated it. There was just something that felt incomplete. . .but it did keep me entertain for the most part.
Journey to the Center of the Earth.
When the goal of the movie becomes to escape the center of the earth, and your protagonist turns and tells one of his associates to "JUST GO HOME!" - Followed by her doing so. Your plot just has too many holes.

Midnight - A strange flick from the co-writer of Night of the Living Dead about a group of Satanists who plan on sacrificing three young women on Easter Sunday. Even though it was filmed in 1982, the film still feels like it was made in the 70s with meaningless montages of characters walking through the woods, driving around, and playing frisbee while the same song plays over and over again. The pace and direction were terrible. For most of the film I had no clue what the plot even was or if there was some point to the whole matter. Acting is dismal while the dialogue is over explained and runs on far too long. The only real plus were the special effects done by master Tom Savini.

Prom Night (2008) - I was warned about this film being bad and they were right. It's probably the most cliche, uninspired, and predictable film, let alone horror film, I've ever seen. There's no gore, sex, nudity, nothing that makes it even remotely interesting or suspenseful. It's obviously marketed toward the WB crowd of adolescents who will probably eat this up. Anyone else should steer clear.

The Cannonball Run II
Great movie from the late 1980's, with a great cast. Burt Reynolds, Dom Deluise, Sammy Davis Jnr, Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Frank Sinatra, Jack Elam and many others... Some would call it a stupid movie or worse, myself I enjoy it as it's a fun movie. As the title song has in it's lyrics 'From sea to shiny sea', it's a race from one side of America to the other (Was inspired by a real race called The Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, which the directed, Hal Needham, had participated in), and with the thirty big name stars in the cast, with 'goofball disguises and souped up vehicles', it's a fun enjoyable movie I'd recommend to anyone.

Day of the Dead (2008) - Remake of the Romero classic, DotD takes place in a quarantined town on the verge of a zombie outbreak. The film had nice suspenseful moments, but overall was marred by bad acting (especially from Nick Cannon) and bad sfx. And there were some strange occurrences that had me scratching my head such as zombies crawling on ceilings and walls as well as most of the film taking place during the nighttime, despite the title.

Last movie I saw was once of the only movies (that I know of) that have been made fully using rotoscope technology. Fire And Ice, by Ralph Bakshi.
Great looking movie, I cried when I saw it when I was under the influence by different substances. Of course when I wasn't I didn't cry because it was beautiful, but it looked pretty awesome.
Though plotwise it was pretty generic, these guys go here, they go there, here and there. There and here.
Anyways, everyone should watch it just for the animations sake.

National Lampoon's Vacation - I remember loving this film when I was younger but it didn't hold up as well as I thought it would in this day and age. The comedy is slow-going at first, but it picks up as they get farther down the road. Also a surprising amount of nudity from a young Beverly D'Angelo which was a plus.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End - A surpringsly good horror film. Even gave me 'nightmares' (in quotes b/c it wasn't actually scary, heh, just contained the mutants from the film), which never happens with horror movies anymore. I must check out the first one now.

Boardinghouse (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uDzkfrxg5k) - Supposedly a spoof on horror films of the times, this shot-on-video film is about a young man with telekinetic powers who inherits a house with a history of mysterious deaths and turns it into a boarding house for beautiful and unattached young women. The movie is complete crap but it isn't boring and can be entertaining at times.

That's the film I plan to watch tonight. I haven't seen Brick yet, but I plan to watch it on Netflix. The real reason I'm seeing it is because Rian was one of the editors on my favorite film, May and I try to follow all contributors from the film's careers. Which also includes The Brothers Bloom's director of photography, Steve Yedlin, who also worked on Brick.

The Brothers Bloom - A tall tale starring Adrien Brody as a conflicted con man and Mark Ruffalo as his manipulative older brother. The film also stars Rachel Weisz as the beautiful yet naive mark and Rinko Kikuchi as the mysterious Bang Bang, demolitions expert. The story is beautifully written by the director Rian Johnson who lays out a crime (or con) caper where in the end everyone gets what they want. Since the main characters are con artists, I questioned everything as it might be part of some double cross, and while hard to decipher at times, it was a lot of fun. It's the kind of movie you want to watch again. There are many things done well, but to name a few they would be cinematography (Steve Yedlin), soundtrack, casting, etc, etc. I immensely enjoyed the playfulness and eccentricity of the characters, though I felt Bang Bang was a bit too apparent for my tastes, but maybe that was her part to play. I've been a fan of Rian Johnson ever since his editor work on May and it was nice to see some familiar names and faces in the mix such as Nora Zehetner (as Rose), EPK director Kevin Ford, and two nice 'thank you' credits for Lucky Mckee and Angela Bettis.

Sunshine Cleaning. I give it 2 stars, maybe 2 1/2 if I'm feeling generous. I certainly can't make any complaints about the cast, but the story felt like it could have used some work. I won't be watching again and won't be listening to the commentary track.
