Seeing one bundle thread for Kawai, Kokia, Kanno, Sahashi....... I never saw one for Oshima. Initial impression: "Something is not right."
She is a great composer after all.

So I collected a list of her works together. Initial base was vgmdb's entry on Oshima (http://vgmdb.net/artist/300), which is everthing else than complete. extended the list then according to Oshimas's website. Started romanizing some of the titles by descending release date, but then it got to be too much work. (Long list sure is long.)

This list is still definitely not complete. Oshima's website does not list her arranges, contributions to compilations, other artists arrangements/reinterpretations of her works and almost none of her compositions for other artist like for vocal tracks, as far as sources are reliable and I have not yet spotted any of her CM works (which are rare to find anyway) there.

For the time being I only linked to those posts from here. My connection is not really good and I tend to keep only tracks I like (and never keep brooklet scans), so not all of my albums are 100% complete.

Yep. She is a good composer.
no wait, she is not such a composer,
she is goddess to me, some how she can beat up Yoko Kanno symphonique speaking. My opinion. I love her works. That Chevalier D'eon, is spectacular.

It ever so much surprises me that folks usually know about Kajiura, Kanno and perhaps even Kawai, but tend to forget her. Probably even Iwasaki is more known by my gut feeling.

(Kanno is better for vocal pieces, in instrumental pieces Oshimas totally beats her. Unfortunantly she doesn't have that many vocal pieces...)

Fantastic thread. Coincidence or not, yesterday i started to listen her score of Godzilla x Megaguirus :D
I thinks she's great composer. Not only she can write intense stuff for things like godzilla (i haven't heard none of what she's done in VG), but also beautiful and restrained music like in Adiantum Blue, Memories of Tomorrow, Year on in the North, etc.

One point in fact is, she does have quite some compositions for vocal pieces if some sources are reliable, but she doesn't seem to list any compilations or arrangements or little composition or any CM work on her discography. :\

I got the info on the japanese page of Tico of the Seven Seas (七つの海のティコ) on Wikipdia, and this CD release was also included in the discography page in Oshima's official site. As far as i know, it's the only one title she worked with pseudonyms.

BTW, on the same page of "World Masterpiece Theater - Collection" i mentioned about, you can also get a compilation album named "Nippon Animation Meisaku Anime Music Sample", in the CD2 of which featured few more score tracks of "Tico" that not included in it's music collection album.

Regarding micobear's link of 6/13 to the OST of "Tico of the Seven Seas" --- I listened to it and thought it quite wonderful. It sounds very much like Oshima, so she apparently did use a pseudonym on that score, as micobear explained. Oshima fans should not hesitate to get it while they can, as many of the other links on that Thread are already dead.

I also listened to the 8 tracks from the same score included on the 2nd disc of the compilation titled "Nippon Animation Meisaku Anime Music Sample" (the 1st entry in the Compilations section on that same Thread). 5 are dupes of tracks on the OST. The others are a 23-second track in monaural, a very short 6-second track (!), and a new-agey pop instrumental (sadly, the kind I personally loathe).

The remaining tracks on both discs are a good introduction to other Nippon Animation scores (many also posted on that Thread): simple music a toddler would love to bounce around to, but that someone like me would slit their wrists having to listen to.

But a BIG THANKS again to micobear for bringing the Oshima music to our attention. There are so many more hard-to-get Oshima scores out there (and never posted at ffshrine) and I hope they find a way to this Thread.

Regarding "listen to the full score of Akage no Anne": The 2 instrumental tracks on the Nippon Animation compilation I mentioned were in monaural (not my thing), so I didn't plan to listen to the whole OST. But since you seem to like it I will give it a try! Thanks for the recommendation.

----oops! Too late. Links to both Akage no Anne OSTs are dead.

I tried recording the playback of my pc with audacity, but I have driver enabling issues. Anybody who perhaps does not have the trouble and would record it?Those are easy to rip off the site in the listening window, though they are of rather low quality (MP3 at 96kbps 22kHz). Here are the samples ripped (as ZIP archives) NHK Special 'Data Map - A map for 6.3 billions of people' (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GQ92ZJJW) and Genghis Khan - Blue Wolves And White Does ~ Secret History Of The New Year (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4PC0G8J9). As for "Genghis Khan - Blue Wolves And White Does ~ Secret History Of The New Year", why bother when you can download better quality ones directly from FFShrine (http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/3434). :P

Anyway just for your information, there are other rare Michiru Oshima soundtrack rips floating around such as......

- Gokusen 2002, 2005 and 2008 (not the movie soundtrack)
- Hajimari no Bokenshatachi ('Legend of Crystania')
- Hana Yori Dango ('Boys Over Flowers') TV Animation
- Madan Senki Ryukendo
- Mahou Tsukai Tai
- NHK Special 'Data Map - A map for 6.3 billions of people'
- Planet of Life
- Pretty Guardian Sailormoon (Live Action version)
- Project BLUE Chikyuu SOS
- Regatta
- Yasuko to Kenji

Most are not hard to find, although a few are exceptionally hard to track down.

Beware that there's a fake "Gokusen 2005" soundtrack (assembled from Gokusen 2002 soundtrack with "No More Cry" song replacing the "No More Cry ~Piano Solo~" track).

Here are two Gokusen's already posted...

Thread 86679

http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/big-orchestral-action-music-thread-57893/190.html#post1461334Guess I missed the Gokusen 2002 series soundtrack being posted here. Those are only 2 of 4 Gokusen soundtracks (not including the Anime version soundtrack by Tomoki Hasegawa). Also, if anyone wants Gokusen 2008 soundtrack in better than 160kbps quality, and Arc The Lad Soundtrack I in better than 128kbps quality, I have them. :D

On a side note, we should add Lord of Lords Ryu Knight (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/big-orchestral-action-music-thread-57893/277.html#post1613193) into the known list of available scores. :)

UPDATE: I noticed that the Gokusen 2002 soundtrack posted here (Thread 86679) earlier is only around 59MB in size, which is similar to those rips floating there that has a missing track as I've mentioned earlier! The one I've posted here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/michiru-oshima-discography-89760/2.html#post1858623) (above) is around 63MB in size and has full 19 tracks.

Would love to get my hands on Arc The Lad in better quality than the circulating 128kbps. Thank you in advance. Any sign of the others, sir?

Speaking of which, should I upload the Gokusen movie soundtrack in FLAC?

Lex: You shouldn't say "if you want them" - because we always want them. ;)

Would love to get my hands on Arc The Lad in better quality than the circulating 128kbps. Thank you in advance.I can rip that soundtrack in either 320kbps or lossless (FLAC or APE), since I actually have the CD itself. :D

Any sign of the others, sir?Others? The rest I'll have to check. There was a Fancy La La thread (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/mahou-no-stage-fancy-lala-music-canvas-97153/#post1824307) and noticed from the total file size they are of rather lower bitrates (could be 128kbps also). Actually I have high-VBR rips of those soundtracks (total files sizes are 92MB for OST1, and 99.5MB for OST2). I think the Legend of Crystania The Movie OST (http://vgmdb.net/album/20277) rip seen around here are in paltry 128kbps also, and I actually have a lossless version (being one of the seeders for this file long ago, re-seeded again recently and there should be one new seeder). :)

Speaking of which, should I upload the Gokusen movie soundtrack in FLAC?Of course! The FLAC version is always welcome, and if possible include the EAC log file. :)

I always include the LOG, even though it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever, other than to let people spy on what settings you used to rip...!

I've never been able to find Arc The Lad better than 128... it sounds pretty ropey - an upgrade would be . (With greatest respect to Orie who dug it out.) And I can only find OST 1 for sale.

I hate to make such generic requests... but when it comes to Oshima, literally whatever you have in the best quality possible... the recent spate of posts in recent weeks has uncovered a goldmine of music and filled some gaps in my collection I thought I'd never find in a thousand years. At the moment, the Gokusen movie is the only Oshima CD I physically own (shameful) so will contribute that most cheerfully. It's not much - but it's a start. (And I don't think it's been shared anywhere by anybody else - every time I've encountered it online it's always been my original rip from 2009.)

I did contemplate buying Misaki No. 1 in Tokyo, but in all honesty, it's a lazy copy of Gokusen. (As is the show, of course...!)

I might pick it up in March when I go back - it'll probably be a bit cheaper by then...

Thanks again :)

And I can only find OST 1 for sale. That EAC log is to show if there are any uncorrectable errors in the rip (usually mentioned as "suspicious" positions) so that we can be aware of them if any exists. Thus we can quickly check the audio if the errors are audible or inaudible (without having to sit thru the entire soundtrack). :)

Someone at BakaBT already ripped Weathering Continent OSTs 1+2 as lossless, so scratch that. That leaves Arc The Lad TV Animation OST1 and Sayonara Ozu Sensei. When I can find the time, I'll rip them and upload them. :)

The following is not a rant at YOU, Lexwalker - it's just my own personal view on logs.

When I rip something I check for errors myself by monitoring the process as it happens, and reading the log thereafter. If I post a rip, it's because it has been done correctly. Folk who are insistent on logs are effectively saying "I believe you are incompetent or are misleading me, therefore provide proof that you are not." and that offends my sensibilities a little. Quality is important to me, and when I rip, I do it right - with a good, regularly maintained drive, up to date software, sensible configuration, and personal attention. That is a better guarantee of quality than a log; it is trivial to fake a log if you are that way inclined. Logs are no guarantee of anything.

I trust people. I don't trust easily falsified text files.

There are people on this website who you shouldn't trust even with a spotless log... and there are people I trust 100% all the time whether there is one, or not. :)

I spotted the Weathering Continent on Baka. Wonderful stuff, again! Do you have Sayonara Ozu Sensei as a physical disc? I think I love you.

I'm in England - no Japanese CDs here at all except perhaps Mononoke, Spirited Away, etc, in some of the larger record stores. All my purchases are either imports (bloody expensive) or picked up during trips to Japan.

lexwalker
12-11-2011, 12:41 AM
Yes, I do have Sayonara Ozu Sensei as physical disc. :D

As for the imports over here, lots of Jpop stuff but occassionally there were batches of "popular" CDs especially Yoko Kanno and Joe Hisaishi stuff (mostly albums like Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Macross Frontier, Parasite Eve, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc.. etc.. those Ghibli thingies). Hardly see much Michiru Oshima stuff, unless its from popular titles like Fullmetal Alchemist. Finding titles such as Weathering Continent would be extremely rare actually.

Update: Just uploaded Arc The Lad TV Animation Soundtrack I (Lossless) (Thread 101647)

September - A Moment To Remember [Maxi Single]

Japanese version CD Single to the Korean film "A Moment To Remember"
Year: 2005
Catalog No.: FRCA-1139
Artist: September
Composers: Michiru Oshima, QOONIE
Arranger: Tomoki Hasegawa, Hirotomo Tokura

September - A Moment To Remember @WMA 48kbps (http://www.mediafire.com/?gzma24l8l3g7lzd)
Quality: WMA 48kbps
Scans: Front cover only (medium quality)
Comment: Audible compression noise common with low bitrate files

There's a better quality version in MP3 at high bitrate VBR, but is incomplete. Missing the 3rd track "私の頭の中の消しゴム~A Moment To Remember(backing track)". Re-building this album using the first track from September's UNO (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FRCA-1140) album while the second track found from an incomplete RAR archive found on eMule. Will post the better quality version when its complete. :(

This later album (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=RZCD-46116), where only one track is credited to Michiru Oshima which is also "A Moment To Remember". This one sounds more "synth" than orchestral partly due to the arranger (in the earlier September's album above, the arranger was Tomoki Hasegawa).

JONTE - if

Fourth single release from JONTE

Everything, all at once, please. ;)For starters, have nearly the complete collection of Legend of Crystania which includes the drama CDs (which has her music in them). And still couple of albums that I have not posted yet including Yasuko to Kenji, Oishi Propose, Shomuni Final, KOEI Original BGM Collection Vol.9, PGSM Live Action MoonLight Real Girl (full version with 43 tracks, not the 25 tracks one on BakaBT) and PGSM Live Action DJ Moon 1 to 3 (all lossless). And a few that I have not ripped (including Sayonara Ozu Sensei, Golusen 2008, etc). There's also a few non soundtrack albums which I have not sorted yet. :)

Where did I have my eyes? I absolutely did not notice these prior posts. Added them now in the list. I hope this includes "See You in Kowloon" !!!That's soundtrack. If not mistaken some guys at ASTOST posted this soundtrack before. When talking about non soundtrack albums, I'm really meant that (ie. not a soundtrack album). For example: Emiri Miyamoto's "tears" (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SICC-10076) (you can find it on one of Michiru Oshima's official discography page (http://michiru-oshima.net/?p=271)), and I do have this one. :)

On to more Michiru Oshima works/albums. Here's a direct rip off NicoVideo and its Lo-Fi quality (MP3 64kbps CBR). Its the only one I could find so far. These are truly "chip tunes" (FM synthesizers) as they are recordings of SNES console game music. :D

NAGURU ONNA (TV score by Michiru Oshima) (lossless) (FLAC)

A drama/romance for which Oshima provided a another eclectic score with tender ballads, some jaunty Gershwin-esque tracks, even a bossa nova. Hard to find commercial release on Sony Records #SRCL 4441.

^^ That may sound harsh but it's basically true. The show is the same and the score is the same - but it lacks a theme anywhere near as iconic as Gokusen's. (In case you wonder - I don't have it. I watched the show for one episode and listened to CDJapan samples for the rest.)

I'm off to Japan again in November so I'll probably pick it up if I can find it someplace cheap. Maybe.

EDIT: REPOSTS!!!

For the record, I think Oshima just did the arrangements for Symphonic Luna Sea (volume 1), not the composing. And Yoko Kanno arranged volume 2. Both are orchestral interpretations of music written by the Japanese rock group Luna Sea (Lunacy). I haven't heard either though, so look forward to hearing the Oshima volume. Thanks for posting it Tango----such a Treat.

tangotreats
10-17-2012, 11:46 PM
Correct. I tend to count it as an Oshima composition, however, because her work here goes far beyond orchestrating. Even back in '94 at the beginning of her career, her style was so well established and it really shone through. She takes the raw material but composes a completely original symphony around it. Some pieces are almost completely indistinguishable from their original band counterparts. Give this a try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEzwZ-2wqr0 - it's what "Moon" was like before Oshima turned into a sumptuous impressionist tone poem. Even then, in her early thirties in one of her first full-symphony projects she's channelling Scriabin, Debussy, Ravel, and all the rest. I think she really deserves headline credit on that album. :)

Herr Salat

Thanks, Tango!

I've found a cool YouTube channel which has a track from Ashura no Gotoku / Like Asura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMptAW-idOU.

Yepsa's announcement of two NEW Oshima scores & Tango's NEW re-ups prompted to do at least something. This one may be orchestral: Wares Zeed: Rashuon no Arashi Original Soundtrack (http://vgmdb.net/album/33169). The submitted information on vgmdb credits the "Wares Zeed Orchestra". I have seen this pattern before, naming the performers after the respective show, etc., so this may not be on the level of the great Moscow International Symphonic Orchestra...I wished whoever uploaded the opening and ending songs on Nico Nico Douga also uploaded the score itself...Anyway, Japanese Amazon has used copies selling at 400 Yen (I hope this low price isn't because of the Oshima tracks... :/). Will have to use a proxy, but it should be fine :'D

If you can hold on a few days I'll see if one of my Japanese friends would mind grabbing it. They'd only charge the postage. It'd work out a lot cheaper than playing games with proxies all for a 4 CD that may or may not be the biggest suckiest suck-fest the world has ever known... ;)

One page earlier (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/michiru-oshima-discography-89760/4.html#post2183568), I tried to romanize/translate wonkyly the track names for Gokusen 2008:

Title: Gokusen 2008 Original Soundtrack
Composer: Michiru Oshima
Performance: ?
Label: VAP
Catalog No.: VPCD-81603
Release 28.05.2008
Source: ?
Format: FLAC
Size: 232MB

Booklet scans: Not available

...

Season 3 (2008) Track Listing:

1. Road of Gokusen ~Again~
2. I Believe

3. Bring it on
Lit. Superior Fight, but the two last kanji's second definition is "bring it on!". Two kanji's are defined as brawl/fight. My gut says "Bring it on" in this case...

4. True Companion

5. Perpare Yourself for the Writing Assignment
Again, lit. it's "Written Challenge". (Impromptu) Writing Assignment sounds much better,...I think.

6. Insecurity
7. Creeping Shadow
8. Emergency Outbreak
9. Odayaka na yasuragi
10. Yankumi Visiting
11. Road of Gokusen -Piano Solo-
12. One Heart
13. Selfishness
14. My Place
15. Killing Time After School
16. Great Threat
17. Chosen Way -Gokusen-
18. Rainbow -Piano Solo-

Total Duration: 00:41:41

...

Shomuni FINAL maybe someday! Have to romanize/translate wonkyly the other ones one page earlier, too...

Aha! I'll definitely look. I'm a little unsure how things work in these second hand shops - presumably they sort things by title rather than composer. I suppose it would be too much to ask to be able to write down "大島ミチル" on the back of my hand and just scan the shelves. Depending on the English language skill of the folk working there, maybe I can get some help. I'm hoping to bring down my friend to give me a hand but she's in Yokohama and I feel a bit shitty saying "Get your arse to Tokyo! I need you to help me go shopping!"... We'll see.

Things are a bit easier in Tower Records - but they won't be the goldmine I'm expecting to find in Diskunion. I'll pick up Misaki in there if I see it.

Somebody remind me to get heaps and heaps of Yen... I still have about 20,000 left from last year but that'll go very, very quickly. My local currency exchange doesn't get asked for Yen very often so I have to tell them I want it a week in advance... :(

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve to get help... so don't worry, I'll figure something out. ;)

Only 45 minutes long with some rehashes of the music from the first series. It's still a fun listen nonetheless.

Track titles are switched for 6 and 7. It seems freedb (metadata DB used by EAC) has the information wrong.

In the Japanese wiki article on michiru oshima there is a choral work called "モンスーンの少女" (girl of monsoon) for tenor, alto and soprano.
I searched over the Internet and found out a webpage about it ƒ‚ƒ“ƒX[ƒ“‚̏*— (http://www.hi-ho.ne.jp/momose/mu_title/monsoon_no_syoujyo.htm).
A MIDI version of the song is available in the webpage mentioned above but there is no recording available on the net.

Because I love this song a lot (a beautiful, pastoral song), I managed to download the MIDI file and made a DEMO recording with my laptop
Here is my rendition(I did not sing the repeat part) :ashine:https://app.box.com/s/lg2artpdmmikezmwszbg
It's difficult for me to reach the lowest key......

BTW, "In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores" is coming out Amazon.com: In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores: Music (http://www.amazon.com/In-27-Pieces-Hilary-Encores/dp/B00EPD3B2W)
It's amazing to see oshima's name appearing with a large bunch of avant-garde guys...

Thanks for sharing so many Oshima gems!

I just listened to both symphonic luna sea I and symphonic luna sea II.
It occurs to me that Kanno was pretty lazy on her arrangement while Oshima did a splendid job with five 5-minute tracks!
Nowhere else can you see five 5-minute orchestral tracks by Oshima in the same album... Absolutely luxurious!

It's notable that Ryuichi Kawamura, the singer from luna sea, is also the leading actor in See you in Kowloon...

According to this, (http://dodue.free.fr/ykw/disco.php?classe=all&theme=th01&page=28) Kanno only worked on two tracks on Luna Sea II, and listening to it, it's true that not much of it sounds like her. Still not all the way through, but my first educated guess is that she probably did "In Mind", as it sounds very similar to her Nobunaga work from around the same time.

Both albums are gorgeous. Thanks for the posts.

Per Wikipedia Japan (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/SYMPHONIC_LUNA_SEA_II), Kanno also did track 7. It's definitely not as obvious as "In Mind", but technically more proficient than the arrangements (Read: mere transcription attempts) of the other two credited arrangers.

DOUBLE FOCUS (1984 LP)
Rodrigo - Concierto de Arangues (2nd movement) - arranged by Michiru Oshima

First, we get a Michiru Oshima arrangement of Rodrigo's famous "Concierto de Aranjuez" (the second movement thereof) - or more accurately, we get Oshima's impressions of the movement. This is no mere orchestration - this is a complete reimagination. Rodrigo's haunting melody becomes a duet between trumpet and violin. Oshima pushes the Spanish passion right up as high as it will go as the trumpet grows increasingly more Latin and the piece magically transforms with a sultry jazz midsection, before twisting back to the beginning for a more traditional finish. This is some of the earliest Oshima we've the pleasure of hearing - she was only 23 when she did this. A genius in 1984, and a genius today.

Herr Salat sent me this ages and ages ago. I don't know how I managed to lose track of it, but a discussion about Oshima in another thread made me remember it and so here it is... better late that never... Hopefully Herr Salat will forgive me.

So, you're reading this and you have two questions:

A) What the hell is this?
and
B) Why are YOU, the "orchestra fascist", posting seventies synthesizer music?

They're good questions. This is an album of prize winning pieces composed for and performed on the Electone, an early Japanese (where else) synthesizer. I take an interest in it because the album contains two pieces written and performed by none other than a sixteen year-old Michiru Oshima. Whilst most prizewinners at such a young age disappear into obscurity, Oshima, nearly thirty years later, enjoys an international career as one of Japan's finest composers. This is where it began.

Oshima won the Grand Prix prize at this competition with the piece "Gloria" which opens the album - a piece that has more in common with Tchaikovsky than contemporary Oshima. The album ends with Oshima's "Improvisation" which is, again, not by any means "classic" Oshima but is nonetheless a fascinating glimpse into what went through her mind so early in her musical career.

The other pieces on the album are quite interesting and very unique in their way; Niznik's and Van Rooy's pieces are both funky crowd pleasers, Nanbu's and Haba's are tone poems more rooted in the classical world, Tjahyono's is experimental and filled with effects and mysterious sounds, Ocampo's is textural and jazzy. (As a side note, Oshima is the youngest performer at 16, Tjahyono and Niznik the joint eldest at 26.)

Today, this is mainly a cultural curiosity. Get it if you're a fan of Oshima, for this is her earliest known music. Get it if you like crazy seventies synthesizers.

My usual rambling notes on the vinyl transfer and subsequent restoration...

This is by far the most problematic Japanese-sourced vinyl record I've ever tried to transfer. In contrast with by far the majority of Japanese LPs I work with, it wasn't in mint condition. To complicate matters further, the sound of early synthesizers is often harsh and angular - meaning automated noise reduction often does more harm than good. Accordingly, I have spent a disproportionate amount of time working on this one - performing a very, very light automated noise reduction and then going in for manual repair work. The end result is very pleasing.

I was very pleased with the transfer, but after hearing what the record sounded like on my brand new turntable (with a significantly upgraded cartridge and stylus assembly) I decided to do the transfer all over again. The difference is in places quite subtle, and in other places simply astounding. If you enjoyed the album when I first posted, it's well worth grabbing again.

The odd thump and click remain where repair work would have caused artifacts. There are also some unfortunate examples of vinyl's shortcomings at reproducing particular types of sounds - mainfesting most conspicuously in "Impression on Sunset '77" as unpleasant white noise distortion. It occurs only a handful of times on the album and in every attempt to make it better, artifacts ended up making it worse... so I left it alone.

Otherwise, the sound is really quite sumptuous. Obviously, both music and instrument are highly dated so my advice is to run for the hills if you have the kind of brain that recoils in horror at the merest mention of 1970s electronica and synthesizers that were, at the time, highly sophisticated but compared to the equipment of today are hilariously basic. That said, this is a glorious taste of the 1970s and I actually find some of the music very good.

Hands together for Herr Salat, folks - thank you, and enjoy. :)

The hugely popular franchise "Lord of Lords Ryu Knight" involved the release of many CDs, including vocals collections, radio dramas, and karaoke. It hasn't been released. Hopefully they will release a soundtrack when the third (final) movie is released. It doesn't have a release date but the first movie was 2011 and the second was 2014, so the third will probably be 2017.

Hello Oshima-fans,
I'm looking for more music like the examples below. Can anyone tell me from whom/where this style of music originates? It typically has some combination of string-plucking (synth or mandolin), strumming, fretless bass, and/or an unusual time signature. It's often used by Michiru Oshima in vocal tracks. I don't know enough about drums to adequately describe what makes each of the beats similar. The earliest example I can find is from Akira Inoue's Windy Story soundtrack, and the most recent, to a lesser extent, is from Yuki Kajiura & Marina Inoue's "Houseki". If anyone can point to any other tracks--especially Oshima's--that feature this fretless-bass, I'll be extra-grateful. Thanks in advance!

Akira Inoue - Anna's Theme (1984) - YouTube (https://youtu.be/vLIZW1MrkAM?t=1m4s) (Example starts at 1:04)
Michiru Oshima - Ushinawareta Daichi (1992) - YouTube (https://youtu.be/bBJKcn1RcXU?t=2m) (Example starts at 2:00)
Michiru Oshima - シャ・リオン (Instrumental) (1996) - YouTube (https://youtu.be/1iLT_sLLK10?t=1m) (Example starts shortly after 1:00)
