Mohou-Han (Copycat Killer)
Of the 35 tracks to this score, 3 are "techno-pop" compositions by Taku Takahashi. This includes the title track, where a voice-over reveals the plot of the film: super-smart people turn to violent crime to ease their boredom! The remaining 32 tracks are by Oshima, which are understated and toggle between slow tunes for piano and orchestra, and tense drama (which are a bit repetitious). 3 of these are also on the "techno" side. If you are fond of Oshima's more colorful scores, this one might be a disappointment. If you are super-smart, I can only hope you aren't also bored! The music may have been perfect for the film, as Oshima got a nomination for Best Score at the Japanese "Academy Awards."

35 tracks total on Volcano (Japan) #CPC8-3050. Released in 2002.
Techno tracks by Takahashi: 1, 14, 35.
Techno tracks by Oshima: 18, 29, 32.
Remaining are orchestral tracks by Oshima.

Not bad, but a little too repetitive for my tastes. Sounds like something that would disappear into the background while watching an investigation type show.
