Misaki #1!! was a 2011 TV series about the top hostess of a night club who becomes a successful High School teacher for troubled teens. Her popularity makes it even harder to hide her scandalous past, but it must end well as the music is anything but downbeat and includes a charming tune for clarinet, a fun pizzicato, a sweeping romance for piano and orchestra, some brassy action, and Oshima's customary piano solos.

20 tracks on VAP #81697 JAPAN (2011).
Track titles are in Japanese and English.

At the time this came out, I refused to buy it because I saw Misaki #1 as a very, VERY lazy redux of Gokusen. I stand by that - the complete and brazen attempt by the producers to copy every aspect of Gokusen simply beggars belief - every detail, even their choice of composer, is meticulously duplicated to remake the insanely popular Gokusen. The "plot" simply swaps Kumiko Yamaguchi out and Tenoji Misaki in; a mafia boss for a super-sexy hostess. (Ratings were, in the end, abysmal - which cheered me up no end...)

Nonetheless... It's another Michiru Oshima score, and that makes me EXTREMELY happy indeed - so thank you very much! There's some glorious music in here - yes, it wears the Gokusen badge very clearly - but it's still bloody fantastic. Who on earth could turn down a glorious Oshima melody as heard in "Don't Give Up"?

I recall in the Orchestral Thread that you had thought you might buy it on one of your trips to Japan, but never did. Now I know why! I'm glad it was worth the wait for you.
