Can someone tell me if soundtracks 5&6 from Giant Robo sound any good. I have listened to soundtrack 1 and liked it very much. I haven't listened to soundtracks 2&4 yet, but saw high reviews on soundtrack site. I have already downloaded soundtracks 2&4 from ffshrine user, Herr Salat. I also want to download 5&6, but not sure if it's worth the trouble. The trouble of taking the time to download the files and then having to delete it afterward.

I don't think this is worthless at all. Certainly a fresh recording would be welcome, which would allow for perhaps greater tweaking of the score, but I think this is interesting as a reconceptualization of Amano's exceptional scores for "Giant Robo" into a concert work. Frankly, it's something I wish a lot more film composers would do... but of course it requires far more effort than just throwing all the cues onto a disc in chronological order and calling it a definitive presentation of the music.

That said, I find the "symphonic suite" album of the first episode's score to be a more enjoyable and satisfying listen.


Reading this over again, it kind of sounds like I want film composers to re-edit their existing recordings into "concert suites." I meant that I wish more film composers would reconceptualize the music for concert performance, like Prokofiev creating the Nevsky cantata by reshaping his score for the film, or the supposedly dreaded "album rerecordings" of old where Rozsa, Goldsmith, Williams, et al. would pick highlights and tweak it for optimal musicality separate from the film to create a better listening experience. It's nice to hear the music develop a bit instead of jumping from dramatic beat to dramatic beat when its divorced from the filmic context. But you all probably knew that's what I meant, right?

Going back to Warsaw to record a symphonic suite of the whole franchise is expensive. So instead, Amano edited the original recordings to create symphonic suites, this being the biggest one. It's "interesting as a reconceptualization of Amano's scores into a concert work". It's still too big, though, as Japanese wind bands only play parts of even this summary. This is bound to disappoint for ommitting someone's favourite cues, myself included. I blame the bane of nostalgia.

Thane100, I think this may be for you. After this, you may want to check out more individual OSTs. There are MP3 -V0 links here (Thread 49552) if lossless for all the albums is too much.

Many just delete tracks if they don't like them and there's lot of repetition in Giant Robo. OST 7 lacks a proper ending credits and the second half is just synthesizer and old orchestral music from previous OSTs. I also skip the many versions of featured classical music Dies Irae and Una furtiva lagrima to focus on Amano's score. I hope this helps :'D

Just wanted to add that a few of the tracks on both CDs of Gungrave are not working. Maybe it was a ripping issue. I found the following files did not work:

Disc 1: track 11 - coaltar overdose
track 13 - great flair

Disc 2: track 6 - blue of blue

All other tracks work and sound as expected. If these few tracks can be corrected and uploaded that would be wonderful!

First there was OST 1 and 2 and there was a complete edition CDJapan : Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Soundtrack CD Album (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/VICL-40038) (which does not have those last three tracks on disc 2) and later a remastered came out which has the missing tracks.

I know that common spelling for 時代 is jidai, but if you check furigana on the cover, it says toki.
