Does anyone have lossless rips for all 4 cds of Gundam 00 on megaupload

Do you guys ever check your FLAC files for errors? If you do, what program do you use? FLACTester? You see, I download a lot of lossless music from other sites that I don't trust 100%, so I'd like to make sure they are indeed, releasing true lossless music.

edit: Nevermind about FlacTester... that only checks for errors. I need a tool that will check to make sure files are indeed lossless.

Well the best way to check stuff you download to make sure its true lossless is to do a spectral analysis. However, I don't do that for everything I download because most of the time if someone wants to release a transcode, they do that for MP3s. Its also unlikely that a group will release a transcode that includes scans.

EDIT: Hmmm... I was under the impression I needed to find a specific FLAC spectrum analyzer, but I guess I don't.

Adobe Audition does spectral analysis if you can find a version of that program online.

The best way to test if something is truly lossless is to put your spectrum analyser away and listen to it.

If you can't tell if it's lossless or not, then it doesn't matter.

The Spectrum Analyser technique is sometimes useful but it's not by any means foolproof. Stop looking at sound with your eyes and hear it with your ears. :)

If you must... Any old analyser will do. I think most people use Adobe Audition, or its predecessor Cool Edit Pro. What you're looking for is a hard cutoff around 16khz with frequent spikes up to 19khz. That suggests a recent VBR LAME encode... A hard cutoff at 16khz with no (or very, very, VERY few) spikes suggests a 128kbps encode.

Once again though, all this depends on what encoder was used initially, what the settings were, and most importantly, the original source of the recording.

Some older digital recordings were made at 32khz - that'll give you the 16khz cutoff. Sometimes the mastering engineer just decided to lowpass to remove distortion, or hiss. You can never tell.

As I say, a sharp ear is really the best way to tell.

I agree Tango. I only use a spectral for lossless files if they sound terrible. I have gotten in the habit though of checking out various publicly available mp3s of CDs because often they claim to be high bitrate but spectral points out a clear transcode.

flac -st *.flac (on Linux and I would assume the same for any Windows build) tests a flac file to see if it's valid, and only prints if there are errors.

Some people might wish to burn them to CD. Not something you can do with MP3 without further loss.

Some people might want to use them to remix the original songs or remove something they dislike.

Some people might want to archive lossless rips.

There is many, many reasons why someone would use lossless. So, saying 'If your ears can't tell the difference' is extremely ignorant.

The sad truth is that most people use crappy audio equipment, usually those junk toss-in iPod headphones, trendy Skullcandy headphones, built-in laptop speakers, and other facepalm-worthy setups.

A truly decent headphone/speaker setup with some sort of quality amplification makes all the difference.

When you only have a little bit of storage space, file size becomes more important, especially since most people aren't willing to walk around with headphone amps and $250 earbuds.

When I get impatient with a cd release I transcode other wise I'll order the CD or I'll just have an order of whatever is being served here lol.

You may take one look at the cover, conclude that it is more of that annoying cutsey anime music that you can't stand and decide to ignore this. However, that would be a terrible shame because you would miss out on such a beautiful soundtrack that is NOT your ordinary cutsey soundtrack. Yoshihisa Hirano is one of the best anime composers out there today and has created such a beautiful soundtrack for Chu-Bra that really brings out the emotions of the characters as they struggle with acceptance in elementary school life. If you like relaxing soundtracks that use strings and piano heavily, you will love this. I separated the drama CD from the soundtrack so people who don't want both can grab only one.

So does anyone here have Act 3.0 and/or Act 0 of Kareshi to Kanojyou no Jiyou/His and Her Circumstances in lossless?

I am *not* for a moment suggesting that it doesn't matter if lossless is fake or not. It very much matters that if something is labelled as lossless, then it is. I don't advocate fake rips and I positively despise people who propogate them.

What I said was that if one cannot tell the difference between lossless and lossy audio by listening to it, then one evidently has no need for lossless encoding in the first place. It was an observation about people who demand lossless but who are by their own admission impervious to its benefits.

Before I forget, I just want to say thanks to Grandis and Simon B for the great Bubblegum Crisis music. You really made my day with this stuff. Now I can finally get rid of that crappy 192kbps mp3 set I have.

Well, for starters, Dangaioh is a 3 episode OVA series which was released in 1987 by Toshihiro Hirano. Hirano was responsible for character designs in such gems as Fight!! Iczer 1 and Megazone 23. It involves 4 individuals who were taken against their will and genetically manipulated by the scientist Dr Tarsan to be used as weapons by the evil Captain Garimoth. However, Dr Tarsan has his own ambitions and plans on using the four espers he created to free himself of Garimoth. Each member of the team controls a vehicle which when combined create the most powerful weapon in the universe: the Dangaioh.

The music is pretty straight forward; standard 80's anime music, but in my opinion very good. It is basically synthesized with some orchestrated incidentals. The opening theme song, CROSS FIGHT! was a big hit in Japan, and is performed by Mitsuko Horie & Ichiro Mizuki. It is pretty standard fare as J-Pop music goes during that time.

One thing you might want to consider is that I'm not too good at reviewing music. It's either hit or miss with me, but when I do like something and am willing to share it you can be assured you will probably like it also.

Well, I have both soundtrack CD's to the original Macross as well as Do You Remember Love? I've got both Macross II CD's as well. And I've got all 3 CD collections to Aim for the Top! Gunbuster. But that's about it. Most of my other stuff is in MP3 format. Like I said, I do have Iczelion, Dangaioh 2.3 and Bubblegum Crisis Complete Vocal Collection coming.

That's unfortunate, try repairing the files. If that doesn't work, I'll reupload. :) Mediafire seems to be one of the more screwy file hosts. -_-

Mediafire has a problem tat in some cases corrupts some files... maybe hardware or maybe software... When uploading to mediafire is better to compress with rar using recovery record (minimum 3-5%) to correct errors...

Coming soon, Lost universe OST I (Flac).. probably later will come the OST II... boy.. these ost's were hard to get really.

This is the first time I've ripped in EAC. I wanted it to have a cue and log so people would be happy with it. I think I did it right, I followed the guide (http://www.soniconthenet.org/viewtopic.php?p=21211#p21211). If there's anything wrong let me know and I'll try to fix it :)


edit - Actually I know that didn't come out right.... The title came out as artist/track title and I can't figure out how to get the artist out of the title and into the artist field. Anyone know how to fix the tagging issue before I rip the disc again?
NVM, I fixed everything manually in the cue.

O_o psychotropic! I didn't know that soundtrack was a drug. I would probably hate it according to your description but thanks for posting such a seminal soundtrack from a big name movie.

^ lol I think the term fits it :p I'm pretty sure you wouldn't quite care for it Sirus, I don't quite care for it myself (I do like the movie though) but I wanted to give the disc a good home when I found it at the second hand store. It's not really orchestral, just really dark and sub toned. It's like something that someone would listen to when they're stoned. It's just strange. Not completely bad...... but strange.

edit - Now that I think about Exodus From The Underground Fortress, is probably the most normal of the songs on the disc. It's more like a late 70's early 80's rock genre type of thing, with some guitar in it. I prefer that one the most.

LOTS of drama going on in here. Sad thing is that people started to remove links because of this. procd7 specifically seems to have posted some nice stuff which is now unavailable. Come on people, don't be put-off by trifles. Are we in kindergarten here? That's a nonsensical request. Lossless formats can be transcoded to any other lossless format while keeping the entire information.
If the encoding format doesn't please you, you can always transcode it yourself.

Google for "Key Lossless Music Pack", you should find a well seeded torrent that contains most of the Key Sounds Label discography in lossless (without cuesheet and logfile though). If you're looking for versions with cuesheet+logfile than do a search at tora.to, AFAIK there are two major blogposts there that feature a (probably) complete discography.

Let me explain this a bit, I think it may help a few:

Well, I think many of you know that page. You can create a cue-sheet out of a ripping log with gap info. The important thing to keep in mind here is that, when you do not have the original cue-sheet, you can't tell wether the rip was done with hundredths of seconds (HoS) or frames display mode by looking at the log alone. Well, if one gap length exceeds 74 for the last part you know you have HoS display (1 second = 75 frames), but if not, you can't tell.

This is a very nice post and you have a better understanding of cue sheets than most people
but I don't believe the use of a spectral analysis display will really be useful in
determining the gap scale of rip log.

The algorithm that EAChelper uses to determine which gap scale was used in a log is far more sophisticated than just looking for a fractional part of a gap that exceeds 74. The result of this is that the EAChelper function correctly identify the gap scale in the majority of logs. When using the EAChelper log to cue function an attempt to detect the gap scale is done automatically for each log uploaded. When the gap scale can be determined the convert gaps to frames check box has no effect on the cue sheet created. Gaps in the cue sheet are calculated solely on the gap scale found in the log. The truth be told this does leave a small number of logs where a proper determination can not be made. It is also true that most logs use a frame scale. For this reason the eachelper site recommends using the default gap setting of frames since this will produce the latest number of correct cue sheets and only force the of use of the hundredths scale conversion when you are completely sure the log scale is hundredths.

Here are 3 examples
The gap scale of all logs in these examples will be detected correctly and EAChelper will make cue sheets matching those made by EAC. Note that none of the gaps in log samples 1 and 2 have a frame component greater than 74.

There are no red book rules that govern the lengths of gaps in relationship to the audio data.
It is true that most gaps are silent however this is not as one sided as you may think.
Many gaps that sound silent actually consist of low level noise and/or are mixed with shorter silent sections. Very often when gaps do consist of pure silence (null samples) the silence extends well ahead of the pregap start position or the gap start position is located into an area of low level noise ahead of the gap. In any case there is little consistency with regard to the number of silent frames between tracks and the length of a gap.

To see more clearly what exists between tracks I think using the Exact Audio Copy wave editor would be a much better choice than spectral analysis.

Here are some screen shots from EAC, all of which would make it very difficult to say the
least, to determine log scale. In each of these images a very thin line at the zero crossing represents pure silence (samples with a value of zero). A slightly thicker line at the zero crossing is inaudible noise. In each image the correct gap is the area between the 2 red lines, the left most is the gap start shown for reference.

Example 1

Example 1 shows a gap with a length of 23 silent sectors however the actual length of silence at the end of the track is 33 sectors. Also note that the actual inaudible length between the 2 tracks is greater than 2 and 1/2 seconds, more than 7 times the gap length.

Example 2

Example 2 shows a gap with a length a little over 3 seconds with the last 2/3 of the gap made up of pure silence. The gap start position is well inside a preceding area of noise about equal in length with the gap.

Example 3

Example 3 shows a gap with a length of 4 seconds, 27 frames while the actual inaudible length between the 2 tracks is greater than 11 seconds. As you can see both the gap start and end positions are located within noise with most of the gap made up from 2 sections of silence and 1 of noise between them.


Even with a clear view of the audio data between tracks there may be little usable information to base a conclusion on which scale was used in the log.
