You should be using foobar2000 anyway because it is THE audio program that is awesome. There is also a plugin for the other popular audio program Winamp so almost everyone should be able to deal with it. So long as the audio codec is lossless and plays on your computer be happy.

Oh yeah, been a HUGE foobar fan for years. I use it to convert all the FLAC and occasional m4a files I come across, it's awesome.

Well, what to say about this? You'll just need to listen to it for yourself, of course, but I find this to be one of the greatest masterpieces of symphonic music. Yasuo Higuchi works infrequently, but when he does, magnificent things happen - and none of his scores are quite as magnificent as this one. He's the only composer who excites that same part of my musical psyche that Yoshihisa Hirano does - with a completely unique style, an orchestral technique to die for, and a flawless sense of melody. It's a sumptuous mix of very-late romantic theatrics mixed with tantalising modernism. It's also impossible to categorise - calling it a film score is doing it injustice, because it's really a symphony. On the other hand, it is a masterpiece of musical storytelling - so perhaps it's an opera without words.

Listen out for the beautiful violin solos, as performed by Mariko Senju (Akira Senju's sister).

I won't say any more - because this is a score to listen to and enjoy... And I hope you do enjoy this one - it's very hard to come by. The only rip circulating online is at 128kbps and features atrocious sound quality - even by 128kbps standards. It was pressed on CD in 2004 as part of the Animex 1200 series and sold out almost immediately; it's now impossible to find new, and almost impossible to find on the secondhand market. Bearing that in mind, I'm breaking my own rule on this occasion and providing FLAC - it's one of those scores that just deserves it, and since you can't just "go and buy it" it makes sense to try to circulate it in the best possible quality.

I have one favour to ask in return for uploading this; PLEASE SPREAD IT AROUND. Put it on torrent trackers, reupload it, post it to other forums, share it, get it out there. And try to make that awful 128kbps rip disappear, for the good of humanity. I want to get it up on BakaBT but I'm not a power user; anybody who is and can offer a torrent is more than welcome to. In short, put it anywhere and everywhere.

Well I found nothing for either of those 3, so now I'd like to ask, does anyone have the OSTs to any of those soundtracks? If so, could you FLAC them and upload them please?

IIRC all works by Yoko Kanno are widely available on the net (even in lossless), so this should also include the two WOLF'S RAIN albums.

Angel Heart is a big file, but since it's on Rapidshare I can deal with that. Anyway, I'll let you know when I get to hear it. BTW, those bastards at Rapidshare actually take the download speed from 300KB/sec to 130 to 170 for the really big files. They really piss me off, I'm going with Megaupload when I start posting.

@jlaidler: Most of the stuff you listed there are bootlegs, which I wouldn't share for obvious reasons.

jlaidler: If you can avoid spreading bootleg copies of albums you should, but if not and it can't be found anywhere else, then go ahead and post them.

I know there are torrents for ghost in the shell and wolf's rain at bakabt, not direct download but still something.

Flac, I assume you have 1.2.1b, and people don't really care about the compression rating too much, usually people use level 5 to get a good compression but also not waste time, however since we are file trading it is best to use level 8, smallest possible file of Flace compression for you to have to upload and someone to download.

It is mostly illegal period. Can or will the companies do anything to you? Not necessarily otherwise everyone else here would be in trouble. If anyone else here remembers the lossless movie soundtrack thread that got shut down because of someone reporting the site and posters to the companies themselves. As an aside, megaupload gets taken down relatively quick normally for the videogame lossless thread, so using something like multiupload is probably your best bet for allowing people to download but also having a bunch of safe backups.

Sounds fair. Also, when I bought them, I didn't know at the time they were bootlegs. Sure they're good quality, but damn if I'm going to pay $30+ for a flipping CD if i can help it. So as far as quality goes, I reckon the bootlegs would still be fine. I don't have any experience downloading from Multiupload, but if they're like Megaupload and have good download speeds and don't make you wait between downloads the way Rapidshare does, then that would be great. So if anyone needs any of what I have, let me know and up it goes. The Korean ones though ARE official. Evangelion 1.0 and my Hikaru Utada Heart Station album are both official. Yeah korean and thaiwanese releases of Japanese music are completely legit. The main thing with those is they are meant to be sold only outside of japan. As for bootlegs, you should just download it if you don't want to buy the official because you are supporting a company who is making profits from unauthorized sales. Just think if the uploaders here were making money from posting stuff, that just seems wrong on so many levels.

You can post J-Pop in the anime section if you want, as you will find that there is plenty of it.

Hold up, are you saying the Miya and K-OCD releases are actually legit? If that's the case then there are a few soundtracks I can buy for reasonable prices on Ebay etc. All my research said those releases were bootlegs, just high quality ones. How about the SM records releases of things like the Evangelion soundtracks? Are they legit too then?

Miya Records claims to be a legitimate company, but their releases are considered bootlegs outside of Taiwan. Audio quality is a factor also. When I originally bought the 2 soundtracks for Macross Zero, I wasn't aware they were boots, but I went ahead and bought the legitimate releases afterwards. Comparing the two, by actually listening to them and reading their spectral frequencies on Adobe Audition, you can definitely tell the difference. So I will definitelt pay the money for the legitimate item as it's better quality.

This is my opinion though.

Guess I'll have to keep my eyes open on Ebay then. I MIGHT pay 28 bucks for a used copy of Gundam Seed Destiny Complete Best, and I MIGHT pay 30 or so for a used copy of Gundam Seed The Bridge, but it is gonna sting. I once found the Japanese special edition of Seed Complete Best on Ebay for around 16 or so bucks, so I know they're out there, just gotta keep my eyes open. Only reason I didn't buy it is because I already had the Tofu Records release and didn't think it was worth it just to have the Japanese version and one extra song. In the mean time, any chance someone here has those albums and can post them? Pretty please? I really don't trust or like torrents though. I know I'm limiting myself with that mindset, but it's not an unreasonable one. Danger factors aside, I've been stung too many times bu having the last 3 megabytes go down to 28KB/sec download speed.

Still VERY expensive. Some sellers on Ebay are in Japan and sell genuine Japanese CDs. It's where I got my two 3 inch CD singles of Gundam Wing Rhythm Emotion and Just Communication. Also where I got the Korean version of Shiro Sagisu Music From Evangelion 1.0. Also my single CD for Bayuka (True Light) from D.N.Angel.

Not so expensive if you keep in mind that these albums are very likely not printing anymore. If you check CDJapan e.g. then you will notice that it already say "out of print" there for Vol. 3 and 4. Vol. 1 and 2 are still available though, but you never know for how long. Not so expensive if you keep in mind that these albums are very likely not printing anymore. If you check CDJapan e.g. then you will notice that it already say "out of print" there for Vol. 3 and 4. Vol. 1 and 2 are still available though, but you never know for how long. In short: Geneon USA is notoriously known for destroying music by their remastering process, which is in short "compression + increasing gain". I never heard anything about that from Victor, so who am I going to trust more in this regards? ;)

Oh don't be so dismissive. I don't have the soundtracks you've mentioned, but the ones I have do sound fine. I do know the difference between what sounds good and what doesn't. Why else would I be here in the lossless section? Anyway, could we get back to the thread's purpose please?

I don't mean to stick my nose in here where it's not wanted... but fighting the lowest common denominator "ramp up the volume for maximum EPIC" mastering style is tiresome. You know you're right, but you're against a group of people who are not only a hundred times bigger than you are, but are the sort of people who will respond to any sign of a debate with anger and aggression.

There are people out there who think the recent Tadlow Conan disc sounds "fine" - including the guy who made it - when in fact, it's a disastrous recording compounded by an imbecilic, amateur mastering job. With all respect, one person stating that they think something is fine does not make it so; all it means is that according to their standards and their expectations, it suits their purpose.

Also, having a presence in the Lossless thread really isn't any sort of qualification as far as appreciating good quality audio is concered. Until you do an ABX test between MP3 and FLAC, and succesfully identify both from a wide range of samples, you're listening to FLAC for its placebo effect and nothing more. Nothing wrong with that - I do it myself; I can't reliably tell the difference between FLAC and MP3 at high bitrates, but I still collect music in FLAC because I like the comfort of knowing that it's the best possible representation of the music. Perhaps in the future, my ability to tell the difference will improve and then I'll be pleased I have all my music in FLAC. But right now, they both sound the same to me - and to a great many other people who will bleat on about "FLAC IS BETTER! MP3 SUCKS!" whilst at the same time, clearly cannot tell them apart - as evidenced by the endless stream of people who want SPECTRAL SCANS to prove that a FLAC really is a FLAC; if they really posessed such fantastic hearing that could discern MP3 from FLAC, they would just listen to it and be able to say "Oh, OK, that's genuine lossless!" or "Crap, that's a transcode!" -- but they can't.

Back on sort of topic, I'm not familiar with the GENEON discs so I can't make an informed judgement, but what's being said about them doesn't surprise me at all. As previously observed, they may very well sound "fine" if you don't have any other frame of reference, or if you're not able to discern (or simply aren't bothered by) that sort of heavy-handed mastering. Again, not a criticism - simply a statement of fact. My mother thinks a cassette tape sounds just the same as a CD; she's not stupid - far from it - but she's not a good person to ask about audio because as far as she's concerned, almost anything is "fine" and even stereo is pointless! ;)

I don't wish to offend or drag the thread off topic; but I do understand where LiquidAcid is coming from. It can be very wearisome being right and a minority. :)

I certainly don't have the original Japanese releases of the same soundtracks released by Geneon USA but I wouldn't be surprised if the gain you are complaining about was also present on those same discs. I find it hard to believe that Geneon USA would apply additional gain to soundtracks for the US release. In any event there is a huge difference between the sound of rock and synth that is the product of excessive gain and orchestral/choral music that is a similar product. As far as I can tell from looking at Elemental Gelade soundtrack in Adobe Audition, the only serious instances of excessive gain are on cues with huge rock or synth sound. While those may be the product of dynamic compression, they appear to be properly limited so as to not create an audible click or pop. As someone who listens heavily to modern heavy metal, I count my blessings hen a release is adequately limited slightly below 0db and I can discern the different instruments at play.

Also consider that many recent Japanese releases of game and anime soundtracks had much worse instances of clipping. For instance, Last Ranker and Tatakau Shisho the Book of Bantorra both had excessive gain applied to the big orchestral/choral cues in a way that created audible clips and pops. If those were to ever get a US release, there is very little chance that anyone would make the clipping worse and apply even more gain to the albums on the whole.

I find it hard to believe that Geneon USA would apply additional gain to soundtracks for the US release.

Oddly enough, I seem to be able to forgive an awful lot in these Japanese releases, because I have a lot of respect for the conditions under which they were made. A bloody cartoon gets an orchestral score - miracle enough. I know some of their studio facilities are less than ideal (Sound Inn, that old chestnut, is particularly atrocious) and sometimes technical perfection has to take a back seat to the music. It's regrettable, but I consider it a trade off that's worth making - bearing in mind the two alternatives... 1) Have a bigger music budget. Which is impossible. 2) Say, "forget the orchestra all together" and do it all with samples.

I have witnessed a relatively big-budget orchestral session first hand (Doctor Who Series 6) and have seen what an alarmingly seat-of-the-pants experience it is. You have *just* enough time - literally down to seconds - to record what you want to record and not a minute more. You have barely any time to set up microphones, etc. The orchestra show up and you better get moving, because they're costing you �150 PER MINUTE.

On Doctor Who, they stick fifty microphones down *everywhere* and deliberately record at a relatively low level. I asked why, and they said basically "Because we don't have time to arse about; this way we can just hit "record" knowing that we'll get everything, and we can sort it all out in the mix later on." -- which makes perfect sense.

Look at some of these Japanese productions; 30 or 40 piece orchestra at most, and crappy studio facilities, no rehearsal time. They do incredible work with what resources they have.

I can overlook the occasional less-than-stellar mastering job.

Of course, idiotic record labels f**king around with perfectly good albums, in the case of Geneon and others, is unforgiveable.

Interesting bit about Doctor Who there. I meant no disrespect to Liquid Acid and wasn't trying to be a jerk. As a music obsessed person, I've been listening to it all my life, so I actually do have a good frame of reference for what does and doesn't sound good in many different genres and recording methods. Also, though I don't do any hugely involved spectral analysis like you guys were talking about, I have the spectrum analyzer on Foobar2000 set at 80 bands going up to the 25K range. I can definitely see the difference between mp3s and flac/wav/aiff etc. Though granted even those poorly remastered discs would have those frequency ranges. I did however download the Japanese version here of Evangelion III, and it sounds just like my own personal copies of the American discs for I and II. So all I can say is as far as EVA is concerned, those are fine. So yes, there are bad remastering jobs out there. I actually found some of Elton John's tracks from his 2002 greatest hits 2 disc compilation CD to be inferior to and containing what sounds like imperfections in the master tapes when compared with CD copies of his older greatest hits compilations before the big career spanning one. At least Eurythmics fixed errors from their old albums on the new versions. So yeah, it does happen. What can we do about it? Nothing really. Except mortgage our souls to The Devil for the cash to buy the originals.

Actually I can hear the difference. When I say I have good hearing and can hear the difference in types of compression as well as recording quality, I really can. So yes, I can hear the difference between an mp3, even of high bit rate around 320 or so, and uncompressed audio. I'm not just talking out my bum here.

Haha, I wasn't suggesting you were. But so many people say "Of course I can tell the difference!" but it turns out that actually, they cannot. In a controlled environment, in a blind test, they cannot distinguish between the two. As I said previously, until you have subjected yourself to a completely fair, unbiased, ABX test you won't truly know whether you can tell the difference or not. If I listen to a FLAC and listen to an MP3, the act of knowing which is which will influence what I think I can hear. My mind will subconsciously manufacture reasons why the FLAC is better than the MP3, and so on. If I genuinely don't know which is which, about 50% of the time I can't tell the difference. If you've never tested yourself before, give it a try - it's somewhat fun and also quite alarming when you get the results... :)

Interesting soundtrack, but you might want to check your winzip file. The thing was well over 500MB in size and gave me trouble being extracted. I wound up using 7-zip, and the final extracted file was only 110MB. Something screwy is going on here.

Quick question. Why aren't there American releases of anime soundtracks anymore? Suncoast back in the day used to have special racks with manga and DVDs. And online one could easily get CDs. But after 2005, poof. It all just went. So did TOFU Records. Just gone So what happened? I heard about an anime crash here, but it didn't really stop DVDs being released. Were CD sales just so abysmal that they decided to stop bothering entirely?

It could be that license is expensive.

I suspect CD sales were terrible. I was really sad when they stopped including the Code Geass soundtracks with the DVD sets after the first season because I was buying them to get a copy of the CDs. From the number of blowout prices on old Geneon release anime soundtracks, I'd assume they just sold terribly. I think they weren't picky enough as far as what they released because, while there were a lot of great soundtracks released, there were also a lot of not so great ones.

Oh le blah. Guess this kid will have to keep scrounging on Ebay. I did find a new copy of the first .Hack Sign soundtrack from Korea for like 15 bucks, and it's an official JVC Korea version. I might buy it. My copy of Hikaru Utada Heart Station is the Korean version and is great. Does anyone want that album BTW? Does anyone here have the second Pandora Hearts soundtrack? I'd REALLY love the Chemistry track Life Goes On from the anime Antique Bakery. Anyone have that? I'm still looking for Gundam Seed Destily Best Collection and The bridge if anyone has it. Please? Anyone heard of the anime Cluster Edge? I'd very much like the ending track to that one sung by the cast members Clusters. My I'm a demanding person, I do apologize. Still hoping to score a few more nice things anyway though.

I already mentioned I can't read that site and I do not trust torrents, period. I may be handicapping myself by not using torrents and thus not getting as much of what I'm after, but it also saves me the frustration of dealing with their quirks and wondering if something nasty is getting into my computer. Direct downloads are less of a pain in my side, even the ones on Rapidshare. On that note, I'm not trying to give those of you who use rapidshare a hard time, but I'm OK with dirty great big downloads if it means I don't have to wait an hour between them. I already mentioned I can't read that site and I do not trust torrents, period. I may be handicapping myself by not using torrents and thus not getting as much of what I'm after, but it also saves me the frustration of dealing with their quirks and wondering if something nasty is getting into my computer. Direct downloads are less of a pain in my side, even the ones on Rapidshare. On that note, I'm not trying to give those of you who use rapidshare a hard time, but I'm OK with dirty great big downloads if it means I don't have to wait an hour between them. 1) If you can't read it, then don't make false pretences about the distribution methods used by the side.
2) You don't need to be able to read Mandarin or Cantonese to figure out how to search and download from the side. If you want something, then you need to put a little more effort into it -- which something involves some try&error.
3) Google provides a translation service since years, you just have to use it!

If you like Gosick, you should check out the rest of Kotaro Nakagawa's work, even though it is totally unlike any of his other works. I would start with Gun X Sword and Code Geass and move on from there. You have 2 Gun X Sword and 4 Code Geass soundtracks.

Something like that. It's dangerous enough I do the direct downloads. At least those are scanned by Firefox for viruses. And it's still easier to keep track of what's coming in and out etc.

If you are using foobar2000. Drag the tak to the playlist and iam pretty sure you will see the tracklists.

foobar2000 can also directly extract the cuesheet from the metadata. I think the commandline TAK tools also can extract this information.

OK, I've tried using various third party programs to open this on my Windows PC, including 7zip which is supposed to open it, the damn website even says it does, but this ain't working. Now I've converted many m4a albums using foobar2000, so perhaps if you posted these in a regular file with the individual files or even a big single file for the album, with a cue file, it would work for us non-MAC users. Or does anyone else here have any good ideas to solve my little dilemma?

Do you work for apple or something? Anyway, they may be well built machines, however after three years you're forced to buy new equipment, because they stop supporting them. Sorry mate, I'm not made of money, and I really resent being forced by a company to buy new equipment, when my 5-6 year old computer still works rather well, plus there are quite a few programs out there to interface with exotic and difficult file systems, so I hardly see a few soundtrack downloads being worth plunking down a "cheap" $1000+ bucks for a Macbook.

Well as a PC tech I am somewhat an expert on the market, and the reason Apples will never be a serious contender in big business is because buying a bunch of computers and servers, even for a small company is very expensive, so they are going to buy PCs which can be upgraded and supported for around 10 years or so. I long ago came to the conclusion that Steve Jobs is very much infected with the crazy. However, it doesn't mean you can't upload your files in the basic m4a format with separate scans all in a 7zip or rar/zip file, so us PC users can fire up foobar2000 and play/convert them to other formats. Being an Apple fanboy is all well and good, but you would be cutting out a sizable portion of people on this forum, likely the majority of people on this forum from the music you share by not at the very least putting the contents of the files in an accessible format. Plenty others here do it. Just my own opinion as a trained tech.

7zip works on MACs dude, so use that.

The statement that you can only open DMG archives on a Mac is wrong anyway. DMG is just a container for a HPFS filesystem. E.g. on linux you just mount the DMG file as loopback and voila, access to the content. Nothing magic here that should only work on Apple's proprietary shit.

Never touched DMG files but they are tools that would work on Windows for example :-

It was possible since Windows NT 3.1 (came out 1993). You just need a driver that can read HPFS, a driver which NT 3.1 had. Same applies to all further versions of Windows. On linux/unix it's basically the same.

Hello, Does anyone have "Piano de Kanon" in lossless?
it's KANON piano arrangement by Woody-Rinn.
I really love it, so I would love to listen the lossless one although I can't really different from the lossy one. sorry for my bad English, I'm learning it.

Your posting something that cannot be accessed by nearly everyone on the forum, i won't tell you to stop posting, but your clogging up this thread with posts that are, for lack of a better word, wastes of thread space for pretty much every major uploader on this forum, and most downloaders.

OSX, linux and windows, as well as some of the less known OS's can all access rar, zip and i believe tar file formats in both extraction and compression, so yes it it a pointless reason.

That's no excuse either way, i was the first uploader on this forum of a few game albums myself, and some other things on other forums were redistributed without my consent, however anyone, me, you or anyone, who uploads on this forum or any forum for that matter, knows that's inevitable, if that is his reason, he's better not even uploading them, as it's impossible to prevent others reuploading them on other sites, even if he requires a password or whatever, it will be redistributed.

I personally would prefer for people to experience them, rather than worry about such things, it's more important to me for people to hear these wonderful tracks than the uploader, in my opinion, a simple thank you if possible, is enough for me.

As i said, if that is how he feels, then he is better off not redistributing them at all, all he is doing is angering many of the members here, thus making it more likely for someone to try to intentionally redistribute them.

Either way, pretty much all but a few on this forum are windows users, if he feels so strongly about this, he should not post them at all through this forum.

Not all think in the same about sharing stuff, yes, but it is also up to the person that might own the cds physically to decide if uploads or not, but again, I have to agree with suzuka about reuploading in other places without his consent. When it is an anonymous source were free like birds to share and spread out the "word". Now I can see a different picture of what might be in solaris mind. So I do not censor him.
But, if it makes it like this it would be better not even post anything, when I think he already know that this is mainly windows user forum, and continues posting. I do not want to think it is something like "TEASING" form his part. :/

Full credit for these album rips should go to solaris8x86, however since he refuses to offer them in anything other than encrypted .dmg files I am helping out my fellow PC users by providing them.

But I do applaud Noriko's initiative; Solaris has never once stated that he doesn't want his uploads redistributed (usual sharing "gentlemen's agreements" dictate that if the uploader doesn't explicitly request no mirrors, no reuploads, no transcodes, then it is fair game) - and he has on a number of occasions supported various people in their efforts to find a solution to the DMG problem. He doesn't want to upload anything else, for whatever reason, but he seems happy enough if somebody figures out a workaround. I would say that somebody else re-uploading in an alternative, platform-independent format is a workaround - and a way for more people to appreciate Solaris' posts.

Ugh, talk about chasing your own tail. I know there have to be other Mac users here who post albums. Isn't it possible for this chucklehead to just post a regular file with the .m4u files and the scans in regular J-PEG format So we don't have to deal with the headache of him showing off the fact he spent a fortune, again, on his expensive new computer, again? This is just obnoxious. By the way, thanks Noriko for making your best efforts to re-post this nim-nong's spam in a workable format. I tried being polite before but now he's just annoying me. Nothing's more unattractive than a ponce who refuses to compromise in any way.

Its annoying and about the only thing Uploaders can do is set a time limit on the amount of days people will have access to the Single, Album or Soundtrack uploaded
