Don't even bother. Every message he has been sent regarding uploading in a different format gets the reply back that we should all get rid of our PC's and buy an Apple product. He refuses to do so and at this moment it is pointless. solaris8x86 is an elitist, arrogant and downright pigheaded uploader.

As i said, that's your choice, however either way, in my eyes and pretty much everyone else in this thread's eyes, he's spamming the thread, and generally defeating the purpose of sharing music in the first place.
Needless to say, i hate favoritism, no matter who does it, and solaris8x86 definitely fits that mold, i should also point out that unlike alot of people, i know how to dual boot into osx if i truly wanted to, however i refuse to be a part of such fanboyism.

I won't question your choice, so don't question mine, and yes, it is spamming, just not in a way you find unacceptable, i really don't understand why this forum doesn't have a rule about archive formats being required to be in a format openable by everyone, this is a rule that every forum i've been to has used or been a mod at, but again it's not my forum, and it's not my decision.

Hey Noriko, I was wondering if you have plans to re-upload the 0083 and Gall Force soundtracks the obstinate Steve Jobs fan has posted? DOn't mind me if you're busy, but if you have time, those might be interesting for me to try out.

I wish I could, but I never got the passwords for the dmg files. The last two uploads were from when solaris would upload his files in straight up ALAC. I have software which can convert encrypted dmg files, but solaris will not give you a password unless you open up his test file and the password he had for that was invalid. As for the Gall Force soundtracks, I'm looking for those on Yahoo Japan and Amazon Japan. The one remaining upload of his I have in FLAC is Detonator Orgun. I'll get to that soon enough.

Will it work with Windows? I must say, it's one thing to have to download another application to use things, which is fine. But being told to buy new equipment? Really? I've been a fan of anime a long time. I actually got to see the original Macross series on television back in 1983 when I was stationed in Japan. I'm a year younger than Mari Iijima. So having said that, I can recognize certain characters and words but I don't read or speak Japanese. I know how to hunt for things on Japanese web sites because of this. In all actuality, it's easier that you think. A lot of Japanese vendors however won't ship to the US, unless you're a huge outfit like CD Japan or Hobby Link Japan. I use Celga as a go between. They can be a little pricey, but they are wirth every penny and are very reliable.

I do not download flac, but that does not mean I will not get flac from my cds, if I am asked nicely.

Not wanting to play devil's advocate, but as already stated this solaris8x86 guy isn't breaking the forum rules. For those of you who have problems with the .dmg files, I've found this software: dmg2img/iso (http://vu1tur.eu.org/tools/). It worked for me in the past, maybe it can help you.

Instead of whining about something provided for free, go to Google and look for a solution that suits your needs. There are softwares which take care of the conversion process out there, in the 'Interwebz'. EDIT: Here's an example - UltraISO (http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/) [Supports nearly all known CD/DVD image file formats (.ISO, .BIN, .IMG, .CIF, .NRG, .MDS, .CCD, .BWI, .ISZ, .DMG, .DAA, .UIF, .HFS and so on)]; with this you can view the content of the .dmg files and convert them into something else, if you wish.

DMGExtractor (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/DMGExtractor.shtml) / HFSExplorer (http://www.catacombae.org/hfsx.html) [These should handle the encrypted .dmg files, well, according to what the developers say.]

Don't get me wrong, folks, I'm all for the "easy-way for everyone", but I can't help getting a bit annoyed at those who seemingly don't like to move their butt a bit, even when getting goodies for free. .dmg files are fine, and there's plenty of workarounds for those who can't deal with them.

In the end, thanks for the shares solaris, whilst I'm not interestend in them, I appreciate your sharing efforts, in whatever format they come.

From what I gathered working the dmg-files isn't the problem here but the passwords he gives out (after some ridiculous testing) just don't work.

wow that is f#$&ed up. i was actually gonna bother but pass a a test for a password? kinda awkward...... dmg files arent hard to deal with on windows, but ive never really liked when ppl online ask for something as a dumb as a test. sorry solaris that is just my opinion, thx for this explanation docrate, saved me some time!

Yup. I was asked to DL a 6mb encrypted dmg file, open it and tell him the title of the PDF file enclosed. but as the pass he provided was wrong, I asked him for the right pass.

Here's the last answer he gave:


There is a PDF file in the DMG file. But you need to spell it out the filename at least. So that I know your solution is really working.

The same compression method has applied to all Anime CD DMG files as well. So if you find out the way. So that you will got all the M4A!

solaris8x86: You should probably stop posting music here, none of us can actually download your music anyway, so posting it is kind of pointless. Plus, there's just so much trouble being caused because of this mac only policy, and as you said yourself, only two people will actually be able to listen to the music, near the end of august.

I know you've gotten your fair share of abuse, but you've insulted quite a few people now, including people that were victims of the riots in the UK recently, and i don't understand why that was necessary.

What you're posting seems unavailable even to Mac users, so you're not really sharing anything, just teasing and frustrating people with these posts.

I already have a job on this forum and a part of my job is the banning of trolls. Now, i know some people have downloaded your music and are waiting for the password, but on the other hand, i have a lot more people that are angry and frustrated, including myself now. I would feel bad for those other people that are awaiting passwords, so hopefully others that are angry will see now why i've been in a bind to try and keep everyone happy. But then again, i can't ignore what's going on anymore either. So, i'm going to ask nicely one more time for you to share your music the same way you used to or i'm going to have to block your posting of music from now on or even ban you, because in all fairness, i have tried asking nicely before and tried to work out a better solution to all this, but i've ended up being threatened in a previous post, with what, i don't really know.

So, it's decision time. You either post the music in a way that everyone can enjoy or stop posting it altogether, the choice is yours.

And I have been kicked out of other types of forums before for going more than a little off the rails, but seriously! The attitude of this guy. And I would have liked to have tried out those Gall Force and Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory soundtracks too. But I will NOT beg, or jump though some "overlord's" hoops. Though, did anyone get some of those soundtracks and crack them so they could repost them? No, I have no shame.

I didn't even know what "brute-forcing" meant before googling it. I have a little knowledge, just enough to avoid killing my PC and making my litte things (Office, Access, Photoshop, Audacity, etc). The more technical aspects (command lines, customizing and stuff) are definitely not my domain. so no, no techno babble for me ;)

aes256 is not computer engineering but cryptography, therefore math. I presume you have some basic background in simple ciphers as a linguist (e.g. Caesar cipher)?

Pardon my language but FUCKIN' A YEAH! Sagisu is BRILLIANT! I actually bought most of the Evangelion series soundtracks as well as End of Evangelion and the first Rebuild film soundtrack. On that note, anyone know when the third and fourth films are finally coming? Sheesh they're taking their time with it.

This thread is ridiculous, ridiculously awesome.

Pardon me but flac is a lossless format yet it is still compressed. No compressed file have 1411 kbps bitrate because it is not what compressed format made for.
Compressed and uncompressed (wav) have different sound regardless you can hear it in your audio system or not (but you can only hear when you rip from cd though).

I can help you with flac format but not with 1411 kbps bitrate. Tell me if you want the ed song only or the entire album (because personally i only like the ed song :P).

Please do not make things more confusing than they are.

WAV and FLAC and every other lossless audio format have EXACTLY the same audio quality, at all times, always, full stop, no arguments.

WAV from CD is 1411kbps. The guy doesn't understand that FLAC doesn't have a fixed bitrate but DOES decompress to, bit-perfect, the original waveform. (And, on average, it does so at half the bitrate.)

Requesting or uploading WAV is 100% pointless, at all times. Folk who request it do so because they don't understand how audio compression works, and folk who upload it are either guilty of the same ignorance or are knowingly pandering to the requestor's ignorance because they can't be bothered to do what they should be doing; attempting to educate those who don't possess useful facts.

Easy mate, take a breath. They probably just didn't know any better, it's OK. Anyway, he's right though. The way flac, alac, ape etc work is they more efficiently encode the audio without having excess data around, such as quiet spots etc. Since sound is a sound wave the compression method just stores that bit and doesn't waste data on empty bits. Whereas wav though great, is very inefficient. It's like a hard box as opposed to a vacuum pack. The box has wasted space, though still holds the same thing which a vacuum pack uses much less space to store.

Grossly oversimplified:

WAV: AAAAAAAAAAAAABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBA
FLAC: 13A B 19A 5B A

WAV: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
FLAC: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

"Quiet Spots" has no meaning; data is data - just numbers. Compression comes about when there is sufficient repetition - or recognisable pattern - in those numbers, such that instead of storing the numbers directly, you can store a description of how to get back the original numbers when you want them.

WAV doesn't have "excess" data any more than Superman has excess lines because he uses the word "and" more than once in the movie. IN y our vacuum pack analogy, you have a something (say a pillow) and air - the air has nothing to do with the pillow, so you can suck out the air and store the pillow in less physical space. The air is excess. It can be removed without affecting the pillow. There is nothing drastic going on like cutting up the pillow into fifty thousand pieces, throwing 49,999 of the pieces in the bin, and packing the remaining piece with a note stating the original dimensions of the pillow and that all missing pieces are substantially similar to the one provided. Actually, that's rather like MP3. I'm drifting off topic here. Sorry.

Data is only excess if it can be thrown away without you losing anything you want to keep. If by throwing it away, you suffer a loss, it is not excess as it is necessary to accurately represent the original.

FLAC doesn't throw away anything at all - it takes advantage of similarities in data to store it more efficiently.

If you really want loseless, it will have to wait a few more days for the CD release. XD (release date: Sep 07, 2011) Someone might get it sooner if they pre-ordered... so all in all, not a long wait.

What I really want is OST 1 and OST 2 for it. :3 (TV ANIMATION NO.6 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK [SVWC-7790]; TV ANIMATION NO.6 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK 2 [SVWC-7793]) though I will also want the themes when they are out. XD that show is rather nice, despite seeming quite more dark than I was used to shounen ai being (at least it seemed it in the beginning, I've gotten used to it now).

I'm still a bit annoyed that they've gone the typical route of having the more dominant partner doing the same beat up and push away the more passive/sensitive partner because he can't deal with his feelings. Sure Sion isn't completely defenseless and unwilling to push back a bit, but come on! Do we really have to go through all this?

Wrong, man. This place is for sharing, simple as that. The staff doesn't really enforce anything on the matter - they "suggest" to put some information about codecs, archive formats, tracklists, etc.. -, but apart from that you're free to share the way you want to do it. That being said, linking torrents on here is just fine, sure, a filehosting-service link is, dare I say, preferred by many... but hey, beggars can't be choosers. As long as users can download, everything's good. If you refuse to use torrents, well, I guess you can only hope someone is kind enough to re-host the thing.

On a side note, Take Away: no need to call Jlaidler an idiot. He doesn't like torrents, that's his right. The system is practical, but can be pretty dangerous if you download from unknown places or sources. and it's easier (in a way) to track down the downloads through torrents than through direct downloads.

Jlaidler is not idiot. There are some parts of the globe, in where some countries, Utorrent is not allowed to be used.
for example. I have a friend that even being on the internet is illegal, and in his country there is something called Cyber Police. He can Never use torrents because that will make him have to bring down his "weapons" and get caught by the cyber police.
So, protecting all those that prefer direct download then torrents, with high preferences, it is not that idiotic prefering direct download, because it will not make have to bring down your firewalls at all.

Well if you have a proper firewall, such as free programs out there like PeerBlock and COMODO firewall you can protect yourself as much as possible from too much monitoring, and most of the time someone will comment on a torrent within a few days if it has some serious security issue (although usually it is a false alarm by their poor quality antivirus). I've been using bittorrent for various things for over six years and have never once run into a virus. I think the chances are especially low on something as obscure as an anime soundtrack as well.

That being said, this is a forum for sharing direct download links, most people know how to find torrent links if that is their preferred way of downloading.

Thanks for the support guys, I really appreciate it. And Take Away, the emphasis on this site actually is on direct downloads. It's not official, but it is the norm. Also, don't be mean. And if you're going to be mean, do it in better English, OK? Otherwise you just look silly. But hey, just don't be mean at all and call names like on a child's playground. Adults don't do that. Act like a grown up please, not a child. This is not some trashy, shouty online forum to scream at and flame others. Mean and difficult people are not very well liked here. Treat others respectfully and leave the attitude at the door. Continue being a jerk, then the moderators will step in.

On a side note, I recently downloaded a soundtrack as a direct download from Mediafire, from a regular poster in here, and it left a file I couldn't delete. It ALSO blocked me running system restore, so I think it was a virus. I removed it with unlocker, but damn. A direct download and I still got something funny in there. I'm in the PC technician field, and I can tell you, though a good way to download shit, it's still even more dangerous, even with safeguards in place, than a regular direct download. So if I don't like torrents, and respectfully ask others to post as a direct download, that's my business. And you have none calling me an idiot.

Well, the guy isn't an idiot - and even if he was, general human decency dictates that you don't refer to him as such. Certainly the expectation is for direct downloads; though I do agree with the edict of "beggars can't be choosers" and I tend not to argue about technicalities when offered something I am interested in for free. I'd sooner not have a torrent given the choice, but I am grateful to all uploaders and posters. Jlaidler - I think perhaps the tone you took was what irked most people; had you simply said "Thanks! I'm not really a torrent guy... would some kind person please consider letting me have a direct download link if possible?" then there wouldn't have been an ounce of trouble. Your post, by comparison, conveyed the general feeling of "This is not EXACTLY what I want, so up yours."

That said, as a gainfully employed PC technician and various other things (full list of experience, qualifications, happy clients, etc, available on request) I do not at all agree that torrents are more inherently dangerous than direct downloads. Bad stuff can be anywhere and it is surely the responsibility of us all (particularly an IT literate PC technician) to implement reasonable security and test the stuff he downloads. Surely it all boils down to general canny behaviour; if you download a RAR, expecting an album but instead you find a folder full of executables - your suspicions should become aroused! And you definitely shouldn't go running the executables at random, out of morbid curiosity - do so at your peril!

I am not aware of any way in which viruses can automatically launch by opening an archive, nor have I heard that one can somehow attach viruses to audio files. In the course of amassing a several-terabyte archive of downloaded music - from torrents, direct downloads, private FTP, and others - the only problem I ever had was that somebody accidentally added an episode of some crappy hentai show to the archive due to a filing mistake. Much jollification (and embarrassment on the part of the uploader) ensued, but no lasting damage was done - except to my retinas.

Any regular computer user should know that all things are never equal and that, at any one time, probably a dozen people all around the world are trying to hack you and every other website you visit is trying to feed you malware of some kind or another. Blaming a stack of MP3s for an untraceable issue, when in the world of computers, pretty much every issue you'll ever encounter is untraceable - doesn't strike me as "best practice".

All that is quite apart from the fact that a torrent - stripped down to its most basic description as a file transfer protocol, is no more or less dangerous than any other sort. It's the contents of what you're downloading you have to worry about.

Obviously yes, there are parts of the world where you'll get the internet police banging on your door armed with machine guns if you download a torrent or anything else for that matter, but I suspect California isn't one of them. ;)

That's what I thought. I'm not a computer expert (far from it) but I have enough experience to know what can convey a virus, and what can't. And I too have never heard of a virus strung to an audio file. As for torrents, i've had a similar experience, not with hentai, though. I was downloading what I thought was an old horror movie, and got a racist propaganda video instead. Quite disapointing:D.

That happened to me too. also with horror movies. It cames some files that are not what we think they are. :/

It's a bit funny about that file. It didn't even have the .rar at the end. In fact it had no file extension. 7-zip extracted it alright, but I was left with a single 0kb file which gave me that cannot read source disk or location message. So I tried running system restore and it wouldn't complete. So I downloaded unlocker and the file was able to be deleted by it. Then I ran system restore with no problems. So I'm not sure if it was a virus or some strange accidental file system corruption thing. As to my tone, I was unaware I was conveying such a tone, sorry. Didn't mean to. I'll try to be a bit gentler about it. The person I directed it to never said anything, and then I was attacked by that other guy, so I was feeling a bit more defensive than apologetic. Perhaps if those who take issue with something said to them or someone else handled such trite little matters with a bit more grace and elegance, we wouldn't have multiple pages taken up with argument and discussion instead of shared music. Just my two cents though. Didn't mean to give you a hard time Orie, sorry.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help with with a TAK file I downloaded. I am using foobar2000 and managed to download a couple of components so that I could play the file, but my problem is that it plays as one file rather 30. What do I need to do to seperate these files?
It's Fullmetal Alchemist OST 2, and the file name is SVWC-7226.eac.cue&log&cover.tagged.tak ..downloaded from the first page here.

Make sure the image filename in the cuesheet matches the filename of the TAK.

there wasn't a separate cuesheet file. I opened the rar and there was only a tak file and a scans folder.
The cuesheet is embedded in the tak file itself I think. Its my first time trying out tak files, so I'm not quite sure how these things work.

If the cuesheet is embedded then the plugin detects this and loads it, just like it would when opening a FLAC with embedded cuesheets. It works exactly the same. Update your software components if this doesn't work.

As someone without the cash or much in the way of resources for finding some of the rarer stuff which is LONG out of print and hard to find, and still posted here, I must express my appreciation to all those who take the time to buy, rip the CDs, put up with horrendously slow upload speeds, and all for no personal profit or gain. You guys are awesome, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Thanks, and what future CDs I can come into possession of I will rip and upload. Cheers guys.

But one question...

its a .TTA file. True Audio Codec. How do you decode it into .wav? (so that it can be made into flac)

I personally use foobar2000 for all my music needs. Just load up the log file, select all, right click and find convert, then choose .wav and a location to store the files. Easy.

Load the .cue in foobar or cuetools (even better) and then convert directly into flac, you don't need to decode it in wav. Or if you need the codec to play .tta files you can find it here TAU Software - Free Downloads - True Audio Codec Software (http://en.true-audio.com/Free_Downloads)

Ugh, sorry, I mean tto say cue file, not log. Duh. How long have I been using this? Lol.

Yes but the file is mp3 while it says it's flac log cue.

Should've contacted me some other way, i don't really post in here. You could've gotten it from the original thread i made anyway, even if i did mix up the two links originally xD

The Guilty Crown ending sounds off, more like transcoded mp3. Doesn't even hit the 20K range on the spectrum in Foobar2000. Does someone here have that fancy spectral program for seeing if something really is lossless?
