Ok, have to get this out of my system... been sitting here for a couple of days, trying to match track titles to the official release, the extra tracks from the 25th Anniversary Music Box and from previous rips of the isolated score. I need something different to listen to now :) Anyway, here it is. Another Burton/Elfman collaboration. The source is my BluRay disc with the isolated score and it is Dolby TrueHD.

Should anyone be able to match any other tracks to their correct titles, let me know. I will change it, but for the time being, i don't want to listen to another minute of this ;)

:erm: I would tend to believe that.

You won't believe how many movies have sfx with their iso's.

Ravenous (1999) is a piss poor video transfer (looks like a VHS upscale) and the isolated score that came with it had sfx in it.
There was also another movie that did that too. I can't remember the title right now.

2 more minutes and it'll be finished then I can transfer it from my seedbox to my PC and have a look at it.

Apparently, the disc is obfusticated on it so I'll have check each one to make sure it's proper playback order.

It does have sfx in the score.

Glass shattering, footsteps.

And the playlist is severely obfusticated.
There is over 50 playlists with the same run time and the movie out of order.
Although someone did list the proper playback order using the .ts files, it'd still take some time to find the right playlist that matches.

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
12-04-2014, 09:17 PM
Hmmm, this might easier than I thought.

Loading it into MakeMKV, reveals which playlist to be "primary".
I'll remux that and check if it's the right playback order.'

Foxtown should encounter the same issue with obfusticated playlists.
Some blurays will do this weaken the spirit of pirates as no one really wants to syphon through 50 playlists to find the right playback order.

One thing to note, the movie on the disc is running at original film frame rates: 24.0 (24000/1000)
So, the audio will be sampled as such.

I downloaded it previously from a Russian tracker but don't know what source they used.
This way, I have confidence in the remux source.

:erm: Y-yes?

 I don't have any experience with those.

Have you watched the Ravenous (1999) bluray? From Scream Factory?
It's the same as that. Music + sfx (screaming, foot steps, tinkering with inanimate objects, wind, water, trees rustling).

I've heard of some composers having to do sfx of their own for the film.
Lalo Schifrin talked about it in the isolated score + commentary in the Rush Hour (1998) DVD.
But, that was just very, very, very sparse. For a couple cues, generally, not the entire film.

I wonder if some distributors do it like this to save money on some royalties?
Like if they kept the sfx track, they'd pay less because it's not the full music experience? Maybe it's some really cheap loophole on licencing.
Or maybe a restriction based on licencing terms and this is the cheap loophole for that.

---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 PM ----------

Here it is.
I remuxed the bluray folder to MKV then remuxed the iso score to MKA then demuxed the DTS.
So it's elementary stream .dts.
Anything can read lossy DTS, no Arcsoft decoder needed (only for HD DTS formats).
FFMpeg can do it, libav can do it, even a jar of spit can do it.

Lossy DTS / 2.0 / 255 Kbps / 16 bits

Walking With Dinosaurs 3D?

Do you know if it's:
Dolby Digital Audio English 448 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 448 kbps

Found a full bluray, and there's 2 Eng audio tracks aside from the main DTSHDMA track.
Both the subsequent Eng tracks are AC3/5.1/448.

Can't find a bluray review that talks about the iso score, but I could grab that and remux it.

I'll leave it as a single flac file, completel track.
I'll let others break down, just like with Oblivion with the multiple versions.

I don't know the original tracks or even the sessions so I wouldn't be good at guessing what's what.
If one cue segues into the next, I'd probably just keep it as one track instead of breaking it down.
I don't like crossfades.

I still have pyschological issues trying to listen to The World Is Not Enough retail OST.
Dat first second track... :shudder:

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
12-16-2014, 02:47 AM
Well... crap.

A few things right off the bat about this 3DBD.

1) the playlist is obfusticated.
The main movie has 6 different playlists. The same runtime, the same audio/video formats.

I don't know which one is the real one.
The main movie audio plays fine.

But the isolated score seems to have different chapters per playlist.

In most of them, when it shows the camera catching up to the jeep with the family in the beginning, we hear the dialogue of the main movie in the main audio format (lossless DTSHDMA).
But if I switch to the isolated score, I hear some music fading out, and then sound effects of some rustling and rattling. And then some dinosaurs or baby dinosaurs making noises.
The iso_score track doesn't match up with the main movie.

2) As you see in the first point, there's sfx in this one.
not sure how much though, as I'm still looking through to find the proper playlist.
2/6 checked.

3)
LOOK WHO'S IN THIS! If I had known he was in it, I'd have grabbed it a lot sooner.

---------- Post added at 04:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ----------

OKay, okay.

This is getting real confusing now.

If I go to the next playlists that are shorter (1h 15min), it's just the dinosaurs and no human intro.
I guess that's the "Cretaceous cut" or something?
The third English track matches the dinosaur cut, but has way more sfx than the longer playlists.
And the main lossless audio is still the human part but without the humans onscreen.

This will take some time sort out.
I'm at a loss of what's going on here.

---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:57 PM ----------

What's really going on:

Paul Leonard-Morgan stated on his Facebook page that there would be an Isolated Score.

I'm not sure how many 3D versions there are out there.
The one I grabbed wasn't resized or rebuilt. But, it doesn't say it was a EUR or GER release or anything, so I assume it's a North American release.
It's also 23.976 fps, so it's more likely from USA/CDN.

But, all the playlists are either:

Human story
Dinosaur-only story

I tracked down his fabecook page (not hard as I make it sound ) and scrolled down to find the announcement:

March 26, 2014
Paul's music and effects, without the dialogue!

Looking at the movie again and the many playlists:

It's an accurate description but very misleading.

The Human Story does contain human dialogue to voice-over the main dinosaurs.
It's like watching a CG version of something Dreamworks would do.
Naturally, Karl Urban's role in the film, along with his niece and nephew, have dialogue.
The dinosaur part of the movie is more like Farce of the Penguins (http://anonym.to/?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0488539).

This contains:

Dialogue (Karl Urban & Co.)
Voice-Over Acting (Dinosaur VO)
Sound Effects
Music

The Dinosaur-Only Story contains just the music and sfx. There's no voice over acting for the dinosaurs on-screen.
So it's like March of the Penguins (http://anonym.to/?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428803) (without Morgan Freeman).

This contains:

Sound Effects
Music

What everyone means by "soundtrack" is the garbage lingo for bluray/dvd/hd-dvd/etc.
The audio track on the disc that represents the movie itself.
Why "sound" instead of "audio" ?
Because they're a bunch of A-holes.

These audiotracks are called "soundtracks" all the time in reviews and buy ign'nt a-holes on bluray forums and AVS forums.

That's the bluray lingo.
Music soundtracks (music from and inspired [licensed various artists] / film score composed by various artists) have no meaning to anyone who thinks of bluray so "soundtrack" gets thrown around a lot without care.

Yes, it is a soundtrack, in that it contains sound and it is a single track where there are multiple selections of tracks containing different sounds.
:jagoff:

But, the 3DBD allows you to watch the movie without the voice over acting.
That's the "without the dialogue!" hype.

"music" gets over-emphasized in that people don't really think about it in terms of music and sfx and dialogue all being mastered from separate stems and whatnots.
For the most part, bluray enthusiasts over at bluray.com and avsforums only care about:
PQ
AQ
Slipcovers
Tin/Metal/etc (they got over a dozen different terms about what to call steel cases/steelbooks/etc)
Cover Art
Special Features (which release has THE MOST S.F.)

Only about less than 1% care about details like this, like we do.
The ones who used to maintain threads about "isolated scores" are no longer around or active.

We have to live on outdated information and venture the seas ourselves.

Verdict: A disappointing and misleading use of information.
It doesn't seem that PLM runs his own fb page, as it often refers to him in third-person.

I've not seen the movie before, but if I were to give this to my friends who have kids, I'd give them the Cretaceous cut without John Leguizamo.
They already have Ice Age franchise.

It's a shame, I was enjoying it a lot.
Completely mesmerized by the details put into this one (compared to the TV series).
The graphics are very much upgraded.
Except for the vomit and feces, they look very CG BUT I'M HAPPY WITH THAT! I DON'T NEED THOSE TO BE UPGRADED.

http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/tapoktro-765906

I am fully aware that i am NOT the composer of ANY of these isolated scores, but i have put a LOT of hours into them and i did NOT do that so that @sshole can upload them elsewhere, get payed for it and steal all the credit. And what's more - he's taking my flac-rips and converting them into MP3!!! The source is in many of these cases NOT lossless to begin with and i have chosen to upload them in flac to preserve the quality. A purpose which he succesfully defeats by converting them to MP3. Said and done...

The Way We Were Isolated Score?

ScreenArchives bluray. (http://anonym.to/?http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm?ID=26203)
I tried all usual places and everyone has a different version of the movie without the score.

Unless someone actually purchased that specific release, it's going to be hard to track it down.

Twilight Times only sells through ScreenArchives website. They don't have their own website.

I did find a download out there.
Give me a couple days to sort it out to get it downloaded and extracted.

do you think it's possible to make an isolated score of Brian Tyler's Expendables 3 ?

TheSkeletonMan939
01-06-2015, 09:21 PM
You can't "make" an isolated score, unless all the dialogue and SFX are funneled into one audio channel in the surround mix.

An isolated score is often a music-only audio stream that just plays with the movie, advertised as a special feature. As far as I know, Expendables 3 has no isolated score on its Blu-ray.

Isolated scores are becoming less and less frequent on home video releases, sadly enough (and they weren't even that popular to begin with). :(

Make that "An isolated score is a music-only audio stream that just plays with the movie, advertised as a special feature" ;)

Everything else is a rip of the default audiostream with speech and sfx and if you're lucky (as you said) "all the dialogue and SFX are funneled into one audio channel in the surround mix."

Common misconception when it comes to what is what regarding "isolated scores" GuillaumeMJackson... it's NOT the same as isolating the music. :)

... but to be honest, isolated scores have become MORE frequent with the bluray releases than they were with the DVD releases, luckily

IIRC, The Expendables 3 uses mostly score from the first 2, all recycled and reused.
The Expendables 3 (2014) - Trivia - IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2333784/trivia?item=tr2211785)

I imagine someone who knows the first 2 scores plus the third film can do a custom edit.

Ripping bluray audio would require a long work-around since it's Dolby Atmos audio (eac3to demux, ffmpeg transcode).

Atmos is becoming a new thing for home BD releases.

BOOOOOOOO!!!

Just got around to the download I got.
It's 1:1 copy. No one did anything to change it. Nothing was wrong in the process either.

But, it has sfx in it.
It's the mix of sfx and music only in this. :/

That's too bad.
It's also AC3@192kbps in stereo.

No way to work around anything.

Gah.

On to Fright Night.
Though, I should grab the previous iso score to compare...

---------- Post added at 02:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:48 AM ----------

There's a special feature on Throne of Atlantis about the composer and how he works.

It's very enriching. He's quite talented, I must say.

Filmtracks reviewed the isolated score and they say it's 63 minutes. Are you counting in album versions and alternates?

I did a quick convert to stereo and opened it in Audition, marking each and every tracks beginning and end, noting the times, writing those down in an excel document and letting the excel document calculate the time for each track and then adding the total - 1 hour 14 minutes and 42 seconds. That is what is available in the isolated score track. Haven't listened to much of it yet, so i can't say WHAT tracks they are. About 29 of them (depending if/how you split). So no, i am not counting any album versions and alternates, just what's on the isolated score track. I suppose it would add up to an even more impressive total if you were to add those...

I guess i could be wrong and those tracks contains more than just music but i don't think so.

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
02-19-2015, 02:06 AM
The review is probably just counting the score only, while the rest of the songs and other works are not counted towards Doyle's run times.

Broke it down into more human-readable paragraphs.

Doyle collectors will be very disappointed, however, by the lack of creative material on the commercial album, which broke the composer's 17-film streak of consecutive score CD releases (dating back to Henry V in 1989).

Thus, for these listeners, the isolated score is a strong alternative. Whether you actually purchase the discounted DVD or pick it up in bootleg form, you won't be disappointed by the offering.

The isolated music, amounting to about an hour in length, presents Quest for Camelot in a fascinating light.

Doyle's score is seamlessly integrated in and around the instrumental backings of the actual songs, so you hear Doyle's material mingling with Foster and Bayer Sager's themes without any sudden breaks.
You can hear the Corrs sisters perform the tin whistle, violin, and bodhran without Andrea's voice (or White's insufferable voice on "Looking Through Your Eyes").
A heavy and dramatic Doyle arrangement of "Ruber"'s orchestral performance without Oldman's wild vocals is a highlight.
The lack of vocals in "United We Stand" vastly improves the second half of that song.

So without their occasionally questionable vocals, the songs are often improved, even without the voices carrying the dominant melody, and Doyle's surrounding score is about 45 minutes in length.

There are some quick fades and poor edits in the isolated music, but its existence is a very welcomed tribute to Doyle's ability to write this score while in a hospital bed.

Animation and Doyle enthusiasts beware: if you acquire either the isolated score or commercial album, you'll immediately want the other.

EDIT:
Earlier, he talks about which composers work on which half of the film.

Technically a request but this seems like it might be more likely to pass the right eyes on this thread as it's along the same lines as iso score ripping.

Is anyone able to rip me a FLAC of the original English mono track (not the 5.1 remix) on the Monty Python And The Holy Grail Bluray? Doesn't need anything special doing to it, I am just in pressing dire need of it in master quality for a project. I have the disc, don't have a BR drive on the computer, and a line recording wouldn't be precise or perfect enough for what I need it for. The end result will be in all likelihood a thing I end up posting on here.

Thanks so much if you can spare a moment to do it. I'd be in your debt.

There's some very, *very* special Python related stuff coming soonish.

Only the 5.1 DTS-HDMA stream is lossless. The mono stream is AC3 which isn't lossless. The frequencies cut off at about 20 kHz

Even still, it's the correct speed

:eye: All streams on the disc would be the correct speed.

Bluray doesn't play with speeds very much like DVD.
The only way is if the bluray was transferred as an interlaced video.

Last I checked for that movie, every version I found wasn't interlaced. It was all progressive in either 23.976 fps or 24 fps.
So the audio is correct in every audio stream.

While films are made in 24 fps, converting to 23.976 doesn't change the pitch as drastically as it would on a PAL DVD (25 fps).

You have to remember bluray is nothing like DVD.
Forget all your PAL speedup tricks.
You're in the real world now, princess.

The surround mix is great. Some of the songs have great separation between the vocals and instruments and JNH's score sometimes employs rock instruments in addition to the orchestra, and you can hear different stuff to each channel.

I would like to add another vote for 'Body Double'. There are a few tracks on the ISO that are NOT on the Intrada release.

I would like to add another vote for 'Body Double'. There are a few tracks on the ISO that are NOT on the Intrada release.

:) I actually have it ready. Been sitting on my harddrive waiting for me to name the tracks that aren't on the official release. I can confirm that there are a few tracks, indeed. On the other hand, some of them are just repetitions of other tracks and some of the music on the official release is not in the isolated...

Now, for the tracknaming... i don't know what to name them since i don't actually own the film. Perhaps someone else would be interested to step in? Here's what i have so far:

01 - Vampire's Ceremony (1:32)
02 - It's a Chance & Main Title (1:47)
03 - Bad Girl (0:20)
04 - Loneliness (1:36)
05 - Childhood Memories (1:23)
06 - I was Looking for You (1:33)
07 - Bar Meet (1:37)
08 - Telescope (3:39)
09 - ? (0:41)
10 - ? (1:57)
11 - The Driveway (0:44)
12 - The Rodeo Collection (5:00)
13 - The Elevator Claustrophobia (1:08)
14 - ? (0:45)
15 - Rendezvous & Purse Grab & Tunnel Claustrophobia (8:19)
16 - Reckless Love (2:06)
17 - The Big Drill (8:47)
18 - ? (3:04)
19 - ? (0:54)
20 - Remembering Gloria (0:47)
21 - Pleasure Road (1:06)
22 - Peach Flower (1:01)
23 - Detective McClane, Please! (4:33)
24 - At Night On Mulholland Drive (1:16)
25 - A Grave for Holly & Terror in the Grave (6:54)
26 - Phobia Release (1:08)
27 - The Fake Movie Bat (1:09)
28 - Body Double End Titles (1:52)

Compared to the original release:

01 - Vampire's Ceremony (2:38)
02 - It's A Chance - Main Title (1:48)
03 - Bad Girl; Loneliness (1:54)
04 - Childhood Memories (2:02)
05 - I Was Looking For You (2:56)
06 - Bar Meet (2:52)
07 - Telescope (3:41)
08 - The Driveway (2:13)
09 - The Rodeo Collection (5:01)
10 - The Elevator Claustrophobia (1:09)
11 - Rendezvous; Purse Grab; Tunnel Claustrophobia (8:23)
12 - Reckless Love (2:06)
13 - The Big Drill (8:21)
14 - Remembering Gloria (0:49)
15 - Pleasure Road (2:48)
16 - Peach Flower (2:40)

Ok, breakdown of the parts that are different (comparing the isolated and the official Intrada):

01 - Vampire's Ceremony (1:32)
missing the first 1:00

05 - Childhood Memories (1:23)
missing the last 40 secs

06 - I was Looking for You (1:33)
missing bits and pieces all over

07 - Bar Meet (1:37)
missing the last 1:15

11 - The Driveway (0:44)
Missing the first 1:25

21 - Pleasure Road (1:06)
missing 1:40 from the beginning and the end

22 - Peach Flower (1:01)
missing the last 1:40, different mix

24 - At Night On Mulholland Drive (1:16)
missing the first 20 secs

Tracks 09, 10, 14, 18 and 19 are basically variations of the track Telescope, with track 18 having something new the first 1:00

The question is - is the isolated the same as the film versions of the tracks? Or is it perhaps the Intrada release? Someone with some insight here (owning the actual film) is welcome to step in and clarify ;)

Okay, here are the unnamed tracks. As you can see, all but one are just a repeated 'Telescope'. Although, 10 has some added synth stings. So you could name them Telescope 2, 3, 4 etc. Or, I suggested a few names in parentheses. Just suggestions mind you in case anyone else wants to jump in :)

09 - Is Telescope again ('Telescope 2' or 'Night Visitor')
10 - Is Telescope yet again but with added synth stings ('Telescope 3' or 'The Indian')
14 - Telescope yet again ('Telescope 4' or 'Panty Drop')
18 - Are two tracks combined. The first of which is not on the soundtrack at all. This then merges into Telescope. ('Aftermath'/'Realization') or ('Aftermath'/'Telescope 5')
19 - Telescope again ('Telescope 6' or 'Confirmation')

Calidoran
04-25-2015, 11:14 AM
One more difference is the female chant in those Telescope variations. Sometimes absent, sometimes there and sometimes different.

Unless anyone else has any objections or other suggestions, i will skip the Telescope part in naming the tracks and go with the other suggestions by Jerry Horne above. Tracklist is as follows then:

01 - Vampire's Ceremony (1:32)
02 - It's a Chance & Main Title (1:47)
03 - Bad Girl (0:20)
04 - Loneliness (1:36)
05 - Childhood Memories (1:23)
06 - I was Looking for You (1:33)
07 - Bar Meet (1:37)
08 - Telescope (3:39)
09 - Night Visitor (0:41)
10 - The Indian (1:57)
11 - The Driveway (0:44)
12 - The Rodeo Collection (5:00)
13 - The Elevator Claustrophobia (1:08)
14 - Panty Drop (0:45)
15 - Rendezvous & Purse Grab & Tunnel Claustrophobia (8:19)
16 - Reckless Love (2:06)
17 - The Big Drill (8:47)
18 - Aftermath & Realization (3:04)
19 - Confirmation (0:54)
20 - Remembering Gloria (0:47)
21 - Pleasure Road (1:06)
22 - Peach Flower (1:01)
23 - Detective McClane, Please! (4:33)
24 - At Night On Mulholland Drive (1:16)
25 - A Grave for Holly & Terror in the Grave (6:54)
26 - Phobia Release (1:08)
27 - The Fake Movie Bat (1:09)
28 - Body Double End Titles (1:52)

For those that want to make this more "complete", i suggest you take the tracks from the official Intrada release and add them like this:

29 - Vampire's Ceremony (CD Version) (2:38)
30 - Childhood Memories (CD Version) (2:02)
31 - I Was Looking For You (CD Version) (2:56)
32 - Bar Meet (CD Version) (2:52)
33 - The Driveway (CD Version) (2:13)
34 - Pleasure Road (CD Version) (2:48)
35 - Peach Flower (CD Version) (2:40)
36 - At Night On Mulholland Drive (CD Version) (1:35)

I'll get this sorted and return later today. Stay tuned...

About this release:If you are looking for an SFX-free, complete release of this decent score, look elsewhere. Twilight Time used the album masters, arranged them in film order and whatever wasn't featured on the OST (6 entirely unreleased cues and a couple of segments that were cut from the album), they filled it up with a bad dubbing track used for localizations. You can see on "Last Goodbye", how bad that track really is. I ripped the front channels of the Bluray and included it in this release. While the noise is pretty unbearable in my version, it features less sound effects than the iso-score. For some reason, even segments that were featured on the album contain SFX. So I used the album to restore some parts.
The cues on the OST fade into each other, some tracks have up to 4 combied cues. Twilight Time didn't manage to get the full cues, so don't be surprised if you hear a beginning of the next track at the end of another.
Technically this is not an isolated score and I condemn TT for advertising it as such. If you want some advice, keep the OST or get this version and delete all the tracks I marked as [SFX]. You won't get any new material, but at least you can enjoy the music in chronological order.

Done. Now to just upload it.
I hate M83, for the record.
But I like Anthony Gonzalez. :smrt:

Foxtown and I have been collaborating on it. He developed a cue list to make ripping easier.
I took his cue sheet, tweaked some numbers to get more silences adjusted and better transition for some tracks.
He felt 17 tracks is enough.
I like it.
It would be very tasking to go in and split up the longer tracks to better match the retail album.

All tracks have tags filled out, using MP3Tag.
I just put AG&JT in all fields.
You guys can throw M83 around where ever you like when you download it.
Put in a cover in each FLAC as well.

And a small text file detailing the process better.

Will upload to ZippyShare.

Even put it on an external HDD and play it on your BD player that supports FLAC files with 5.1/96kHz plugged into your surround sound receiver!

Enjoy. :)
Remember, don't bomb the links by posting everywhere you can.

EDIT: Tracks 2 and 3 cut off early.
Will fix and upload fix for tracks 2 and 3.

EDIT2: Tracks 2, 3 no long cut off. Final track had 15 seconds of silence (now trimmed).

FIXED: You must download this in addition to the previous 12 parts.
It's easier for me to upload 2 parts rather than 12 again. :p

Seriously... Every now and then i get a PM from people asking for any or some of my isolated scores. Unfortunately, as easy as it is to send me a PM, it seems to be so much harder to click "Like" on the post of the stuff you want. Not to mention any "Reputation Points".

I've put in quite a few hours into these posts and such a small thing to ask in return as some sign of appreciation isn't too much, i think. Or? Time to get more restrictive with handing out links...

As you know, i think your thread is one of the most necessary here on ffshrine. and your work always excellent, but it's like that, people have to be educate to "like" so if we wait for it we will be obviously disappointed.
In my last thread I had over 200 requests for only 86 "like". Cameron, a friend of mine told me and I agree with that, how is however nice to know that even those who have not met our expectations, have somewhere our precious scores. and it has the merit of their lives in the world.

I don't know if my answer will suit you, but that was the goal.:)

Which one? Or do you mean the entire thread? ;)

Jokes aside...

I've put "an hour or two" into this here thread, but i am almost convinced that most of the users stay away from it when they read the title of it - ISOLATED SCORES

They believe that isolated scores are rips from the laser discs/DVDs/BluRays default audio stream. The one with all the sfx and speech and such and then someone has tried to isolate the music and remove the sfx and speech. Let me fill you in on a little secret:

THAT BELIEF IS TOTALLY WRONG. AN ISOLATED SCORE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT (check out the first post in this thread to get a definition on what an isolated score REALLY is)
And with that out of the way, let me continue :) These DVDs/BluRays with isolated scores are rather rare and hard to find. Believe me, i've been searching for them for many years now and they are more often than not quite expensive compared to the standard releases (unless you happen to catch them when they are released). This of course does not apply to the Twilight Time releases that are in limited numbers when released, more expensive from the start and on top of that can only be bought in their own online store with added heavy shipping costs. I just will NOT support that kind of behavior and therefor will NEVER buy any of their releases (unless it's one of my top five most wanted isolated scores).

Just let me add that in 90% of these isolated scores, there exist no sfx and speech to begin with. On some few occasions, the music may be coupled with composer's commentary and on some few occasions of those, the commentary might flow into the start or end of the music, but as i said - there exist no sfx and speech to begin with.

And then for the exception to that rule - The X-Files: I Want to Believe

I am interested in this as well, but I got disappointed in the past with TT's titles (announced isolated score turns out to be an SFX track), so I'm hesitating to buy it. Most reviews aren't very specific about if it's really an isolated score.

Ripped the AC3 track off the DVD to The Corruptor (1999) - Carter Burwell.
Using eac3to, there's immediate clipping decoding to FLAC or even WAV.
eac3to uses 64bit intermediate then outputs 24bit.

So I used FFMPEG to decode the AC3 and no clipping involved. Saved as 24bit FLAC for editing purposes.

Since AC3 is a lossy codec, it has no real bit depth. It's neither 16 bit nor 24 bit.
It's like all of them whenever it needs to be.
MediaInfo, iTunes, Foobar2000, and anything else that tells you a bit depth is just picking one or the other and shouldn't.
It's not a mathematical guess for an average or most common bits. It just shouldn't say anything.

Looks pretty quiet, the main titles.

I'll be working on splitting it to have the score_only and then the commentary_only.
That way, people can pick and choose what they want.

I won't really tweak the audio. I'm just going to rip it and let any editors out there play with it.

Some tracks will only be stereo only as some parts have little to zero music in the rear channels.
By "little", I don't mean to give obssessives hope that they should keep it in hopes of recovering anything.
I mean it's just echoing, at extremely low volume what the front L+R channels have.
By low volume, I mean if you amplify it, you're only going to get acoustic noise/echoe and nothing usable.

s02 - filler
(s for "score track"; c## for "commentary track")
The second music cue is only about 10 seconds of a drone for nothing.
It's just filler music with nothing happening on-screen. Nothing relevant.

The surround sound mix is very nice for tracks that use it.
The opening titles, has a very interesting mix.
The center channel cuts off early. Not so much "cuts off" as it does just end early.
The instruments finish their notes and stop right there.
And not for compensation of the commenatry (which btw is only in the center channel), but if you listen to all 6 tracks, you can hear it ends right at a significant change in the music. You won't notice it playing all 6 channels. Unless you invest useless time to prove you can hear it.

I've ripped this before, but never invested this much time into it.

I'll dither down to 16bit for stereo (you won't hear the difference; the 24bit is really just for editing) FLAC.
And only 5.1/24/FLAC for an Editor's Package.

The commentary will stay in mono and converted to AAC. Software/hardware today should be able to automatically make it dual-mono for stereo playback.
There's no real use in keeping bitrate for the commentary as it's just speech. Will do a low-res AAC, closer to 160kbps and not the highest quality setting for AAC encoding.

So I'll be busy with this as I badly exceeded my monthly data cap from my ISP.
So I won't be able to download/upload much at all until the bill turns over, so I figure I'll rip some of the iso scores I have been wanting to do.

Since this is mixed in 5.1 and with commentary, it's a big project.

Rush Hour is next.
But that's just stereo only. So it will a little easier. Schifrin likes to turn up the movie audio to listen to some of the action and funny parts.
Love his commentary!

Thanks in advance for these lovely scores!!

Back from vacation (which was very nice, thank you :) ) and offering you not one, but TWO isolated scores. Both are by John Morris and both are from Mel Brooks films. The scores are High Anxiety and Young Frankenstein.

The procedure this time is a bit different if you want these:

1. Click "Like"
2. Post a "Thanks" (feel free to add any other comment as well).
3. YOU send ME a PM asking for the links (or you could ask http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/tapoktro-765906 he steals everything anyway)

The reason for this is that i have grown tired of posting and having no idea how many that really are interested in my posts. Another reason is that your posts helps to bump this thread and make it more visible for others.

Not that hard, huh? :)

If i could be SURE of Twilight releasing the isolated as music only, that would make the choice easier. But that aside, they want 30 US dollars for it and add to that the shipping costs and you have a price tag that just is too high for me. I would say that there are perhaps two or three scores that i would buy the BluRay/DVD of no matter the cost. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Upside - Amazon delivered the DVD much faster than they said so it's already here :)
Downside - From what little i've listened to, it seems Elfman is doing quite a bit of talking OVER the music :(

The re-release of this year had brand new transfer for the video (and main audio, I believe), but most of the special features were just copied from the DVD (all SD).
The isolated score was not copied over to the 2015 re-release.
And those are the only 2 BD's out there for this film.
Any other country that has a BD preceeding 2015 would have have to been identical to the Canadian Alliance transfer.

Forgive this dumb question, but would this be a rip of the isolated score from the 2000 DVD edition in a better format then MP3, for which this forum has now?

Thanks,

If the version you found is in MP3, then this is somewhat better. Converting lossy AC3 to lossy MP3 degrades quality. I have ripped it, edited it (slight boost and noise reduction) and then saved it as 24 bit 48 kHz FLAC.

Did you use the OST to fill up the missing segments? At least I'm pretty sure some segments weren't used or filled up with source material in the film.

Did you use the OST to fill up the missing segments? At least I'm pretty sure some segments weren't used or filled up with source material in the film.

Ok, if this is extensive enough for you ;)

The Cell is split up into tracks 1 (Main Titles) & 2 (Mokelock)
Main Titles has a slightly different ending compared to the official and is also longer
Mokelock's beginning is also longer than the official.
So, no need to add anything here

Carl Rudolph Stargher is split up into tracks 3 (Campbell Center), 4 (Stargher's Lair) & 6 (Moving the Body)
Again, i didn't feel the need to add anything here. Good fade-ins/outs.

Track 5 (Draining the Cell)
Not on the official release

Track 7 is a part of the song I Sciore Cchiu Felice by Alma Me Gretta
I can add this complete if anyone wants it. Not sure if it's the exact same version.

Trauma is split up into tracks 10 (Stargher Takes Aspirin), 9 (Body Discovered) & 8 (Catherine's Dream) (in that order)
Perhaps a bit of an abrupt ending to Stargher Takes Aspirin, but i can't get any better since that fades into the next part in the official. Same goes for the beginning and ending of Body Discovered and the beginning of Catherine's Dream. All of them sounds ok as they are to me though.

Tracks 11 (Parking Garage Abduction) & 12 (Ramsey & Novak) are not on the official release. Parking Garage Abduction includes a fair amount of source music.

92 Aqua Green Ford is track 13.
Almost identical. Fade-in and out are good as they are. No need to add anything here.

FBI Pathologist is track 14.
Virtually identical in both versions.

Whalen's Infraction is split up into tracks 15 (Julia Hickson Video), 16 (Airlift to Campell Center) & 17 (Catherine's Decision).
The thing to be mentioned here is that the Airlift to Campell Center track is quite different to what would be Whalen's Infraction Part II.

Tide Pool is split up into tracks 18 (The Horse), 19 (Victim Dioramas & Emperor Stargher) & 20 (Catherine Comes Out).
Worth mentioning is the addition of 1 minut of... some kind of music at the beginning of The Horse and the Emperor Stargher part (which would be Tide Pool part II) and that Victim Dioramas is longer than the official (Tide Pool part II). Also an abrupt beginning of Catherine Comes out. I guess i could have made a fade-in here, but...

Sing a Song of Sixpence is split up into tracks 21 (Into the Mind of a Killer), 22 (Julia's Prayer & Edward's Room) & 23 (Story of Margeret Sims).
Part II of Sing a Song of Sixpence (Julia's Prayer & Edward's Room) is greatly expanded. First part of that is not on the official and then comes a "source" part (musical box? not sure if that's the english word for it) which fades into an extended version of what's on the official.

Valentine is track 23.
Basically the same.

Only Girls Play with Dolls is track 25.
Also basically the same.

Tracks 26 (Baptism) & 27 (Catherine Collared Part I).
Not on the official release

Clorine and Rust is split up into tracks 28 (Catherine Collared Part II) & 29 (Catherine Collared Part III).
Not much to mention here.

Normal Psychotropics is split up into tracks 30 (Julia's Despair & Peter Goes In), 31 (Peter's Ride) & 32 (Women in Furrows).
Plain and simple.

The Seduction is track 33.

Four and Twenty Blackbirds is track 34.
Here is an addition of some weird music in the beginning and again a musical box playing before it fades into the official track. Of course this means missing some of the first part of the official, but i chose to leave it as is.

Track 35 (Stargher Screams)
Not on the official release

Stargher King is track 36.
This one is the one i perhaps could have handled differently, but again, i left it as is. There's a middle section of percussion that has considerably lower volume, but it would have been hard to mix in the original instead and also, raising the volume would have produced much more noise that would have been hard to remove in a satisfactory way. The ending is abrupt... this is the part i MIGHT go in and change in the future.

Catherine's World is track 37.
The percussion at the end is different. Different enough that i left them instead of raising the volume to match the original. Doesn't bother me none.

The Drowning is track 38.

Scavenged Dolls is track 39.

Vital Signs is track 40.

End Titles is track 41 (You Can Find the Feeling by Master Musicians of Jajouka & the rest by Howard Shore).
Uses part of the original song and fades into Shore's work. Not changing anything there.

So, if anyone prefer the mixes on the official, fine. I will not attempt to change more than one track of this. Perhaps. Also if you want the original song in the End Titles, add it from the official release.

Comprehensive!

I think the MP3 was mine?
I now I did a few MP3 releases for isolated scores.
But, that was mostly for legacy support.

Back then, nothing was really AC3-compatible.

Nowawadays, everything should be AC3-compatible, at least.
Definitely one lossless format or another.

Thanks for the delicate work on this.
I'm still still working on "The Corruptor".
Trying to separate the score and commentary.

The really nice thing about The Cell is that it has no commentary.
So the work is much faster.

Quite a while back i made an attempt at ripping The Mummy. I know i have shared it here before, but i'll be damned if i remember HOW i ripped it then. The problem is that the source AC3 plays in two speeds somehow. The isolated score as such is not really isolated as it doesn't play during the film, but rather in full in one of the menus. If you play the DVD in you regular DVD-player or try to watch it in your computer - no problem. But when you try to convert the stereo AC3-file, it plays the menu music in normal speed, but Goldsmith's music plays very slooooooow. So, what did i do? Quite a lot of experimenting. I had set my mind that IF i managed to rip it properly, i would save the resulting wav-file as flac for archival purposes. And so i did.

And this is where it gets interesting. While trying out different programs, i found one that managed to do what i wanted. The side effect was that in the four tracks that had source music mixed into them, the source music landed in one channel and the score in the other. Sounds weird? Well, try to think of it as the music playing as it should, but when the source music mixed in, it entered one channel only and the score sidestepped to the other. Nice :) So i have now made a new version of this music and removed ALL of the source music without losing any of the score. True, even after trying some creative reverb in Audition you can hear there is a slight difference where i tried to make the mono sound more like stereo, but it's not too shabby. Good enough for me at least.

So a revised tracklisting would be something like:
101 - Imhotep (4:16)
102 - The Sarcophagus (2:12)
103 - Tuareg Attack (2:20)
104 - Pursuit (1:22)
105 - The Desert Will Kill Him (1:01)
106 - The Librarian (0:45)
107 - The Puzzle Box (0:37)
108 - The Execution (0:57)
109 - Giza Port (1:50)
110 - Night Boarders (4:04)
111 - The Caravan (2:16)
112 - Night Watchers (0:28)
113 - Camel Race (3:21)
114 - There Was Light (1:35)
115 - Blue Gold (0:51)
116 - Salt Acid (0:25)
117 - The Crypt (2:24)
118 - Broken Bottle (0:11)
119 - Mumia Attack & Rick and Evelyn (4:06)
120 - Discoveries (2:55)
121 - The Hom-Dai Curse (0:43)

201 - Plague of Locusts (4:54)
202 - The Bringer of Death (1:08)
203 - Language of the Slaves (1:22)
204 - Finishing the Job (1:13)
205 - Serious Trouble (0:56)
206 - The Eclipse (0:30)
207 - Hunting the Egyptologist (0:25)
208 - Plague of Flies (0:53)
209 - Bourbon Chaser (0:19)
210 - Through the Keyhole (1:23)
211 - My Favorite Plague (3:56)
212 - Crowd Control (3:09)
213 - The Sand Wall (3:12)
214 - Quicksand (1:11)
215 - Rebirth, Pt I (3:41)
216 - Rebirth, Pt II (3:25)
217 - Rebirth, Pt III (1:41)
218 - The Mummy (6:14)
219 - Escaping Hamunaptra (1:11)
220 - The Sand Volcano (0:49)
221 - Finale & End Credits (9:25)

Total Time: 1:29:36

I ripped The Mummy as well. Some music stems were missing entirely in some channels, so I made a couple of alternate versions. Still surprised no label re-released this offiically, this score sold pretty well back then. I'm not a fan of your track titles, though as I prefer the official titles from the cuesheets (http://filmcues.blogspot.de/2012/09/the-mummy.html).

But the weird thing is that it turned out differently when using two different programs to rip the AC3. One produced what i described above and the other produced the mix where the score and the source music faded into each other

I wonder if it's just cheaper to it that way.
I get some composers are asked to do some of the sfx for the film, but I can't see them doing the whole film like that.
I can do this all on my own on with any movie really, just muting the center channel. :(

Yes, shorter than the bootleg but this one is more like what's heard in the film (have a look at the comparisons). There never was an isolated score of Small Soldiers released. DVD or Bluray. If you are in luck, somone might have ripped the front or rear channels of the default audio stream, but that would still have a lot of SFX/speech

An isolated score - this is a separate audio track on the laser disc/DVD/BluRay with only the music or sometimes coupled with composer's commentary. It is an extra.

This is NOT part of the regular audio track, it is NOT one or some of the channels of the same audio track. It is something you can chose to listen to INSTEAD of the regular audio track.

Sometimes you can be able to use one or more of the channels of the regular audio track and extract most of the music and perhaps even to remove speech and SFX partly or completely. BUT, most of the time it will still be audible. And most of the time the music is mixed throughout all the channels so by using only one or two of a multichannel stream, you will lose some of the music as well.

So to use dillweed's example of Small Soldiers above:

This DVD/BluRay has no isolated score audio track. It has regular audio tracks (and perhaps commentary tracks), but as he said - It is littered with SFX. If someone decides to try and remove these SFX, it does STILL NOT make Small Soldiers have an isolated score track.

The reason for me to try and clarify this is that every now and then, i get requests in the style of "Can you do an isolated score of this and that?"

Short answer - No.

What they mean is if i can try to isolate the music from the regular audio track and separate it from the speech and SFX. That is a LOT of work and i would never spend the time doing it on anything else than a score in my top five perhaps.

I am about getting BBC's documentary mini-series THE HUNT with an isolated score by Steven Price. Is there an interest in this?

Yes, there is! Absolutely! So many wonderful cues are missing on the CD...

Actually... i have just started on it.

(and the official release is 2 CDs) ;)

Since the film release of this was by 20th Century Fox, I cannot share any links, publicly or privately. I hope you understand that i don't want to risk a ban. I will leave the info for it though, for "educational" purposes.

Ok, this is not so new. Both FSM and LaLaLand have released this and they are very nice releases. However, this isolated score has some different mixes and splits and i can imagine this is closer to what's heard in the film. Even though i have the BluRay i haven't seen it so i can't say for sure.

Well, it was one of those things that has been sitting on my HD for a looong time. Now it's done and off my even longer todo-list. Take it or leave it.

I find that people rate threads on a variety of reasons. Unfortunately not many of them are if the work in the thread is good or not. Some give my thread 1 star just because they don't like me, some give it 1 star because they don't like music with SFX and speech in it. And that's because they believe isolated scores are the music from any DVD or BluRay where someone tried to remove the speech and SFX. Not sure how many times i have repeated that ;) but here goes again - an isolated score is an Extra on CERTAIN DVDs and BluRays. They are rather rare and hard to find, i know, i have spent lots of years collecting them and i guess i'm up to about 100 of them now.

I have been thinking of ripping my five seasons of Twilight Zone. Out of 156 episodes, 140 have an isolated score by composers such as Bernard Herrmann, Franz Waxman, Van Cleave, Leonard Rosenman, Jerry Goldsmith, Fred Steiner and others. Many of them have the music from stock material, but still... I'm not sure how i will handle that since 2016 is supposed to be the year where i FINISH projects as well as start them :-P and this surely is a mega project.

Another one like that is Space 1999. I have the first season on DVD with isolated scores and before anyone mentions that they are also available on BluRay (believing they are in better quality), i would like to say that they are the same qualitywise. I have compared.

Let's see, what else do i want to do? I want to re-visit some of my old rips and try to improve on them. And of course, i want to finish all the ones that i have started but left sitting on my HDs.

But most of all, i want to feel it's fun. Which means i will not be posting on a regular basis. It's posted when it's done :)

For me there's only one thing to reward it's your work on each track of each score! You did the job ! ;)

I have Twilight zone vol 1, 2, 3 and Space 1999 First season and the Prisoner (of course, with alternate iso score for the first episode) on blu-ray and I really don't want to do what you did here, it's a project too big for me. lol I will never stop to thank you enough for your great work :)
