Actually... i have just started on it.

What's your progress on it? A lot of cues are fading into each other, so I'll use the tracked versions from the "On The Hunt" segments to get clean endings. I am still not sure if Steven composed original music for Episode 7. The OST only featured music from the first 6.

Well, i have one episode finished. Haven't spent enough time by the computer to get more done. Hopefully i can pick up speed a little with all the holidays done

You mean on the episode 7 they used various cues from the previous 6 episodes?

That's a good question. I don't know. If he composed music for episode 7, they didn't include it on the soundtrack, that's for sure.
It's also possible they reused cues from the additional composer of Frozen Planet. Some segments in these episodes might be tracked from other places as well. I'm facing the same difficulties I have with Frozen Planet, which is why that set hasn't been finished yet as well. For some reason I just don't believe Price wrote that much music for a BBC show that already has countless hours of music in their archives.

With regard to Superman , the isolated score that appears in both the DVD and Blu Ray releases were mastered from the audio elements used in the film�s final edit, not the recording session elements. What that means is that each music cue from these final-film audio elements has been edited drastically from the recording session elements, so you have portions of the music that has been taken out. The audio film elements do not present the complete music score.

For Superman, you would be better off by finding the FSM CD release of music for this film, where the complete score is presented, as well as material not used in the movie. I am sure this forum has it.

It all depends on how you define "complete"...

1. ALL music heard in the film, including all songs and even the cellphone signal
2. ALL music heard in the film, AS heard in the film
3. ALL score heard in the film, leaving out the songs and source music
4. ALL score heard in the film, also including every single alternate
5. NOTHING heard in the film, UNLESS it's also present in the recording sessions
6. The recording sessions
7. ALL of the recording sessions, including every single alternate

and so on, and so on...

Since there is no clear definition on exactly WHAT complete is, it can be any of the above and then some. The same as some people persist in calling something where someone has tried to remove speech and SFX, trying to keep only the music when ripping the default audio track on DVDs and blurays for isolated scores. It is not...

What i wanted to say is that getting something with all the music from the film might very well BE the complete version for some people :)

And for all of you asking for this and that isolated score - send me a PM asking for them. I am not here checking this thread all the time, i do however check my PMs more regularly. And throwing in a list as done above... did you even bother checking the first post in this thread? There is a quite extensive list there with everything i have posted

For a truly complete experience, it is necessary to own both ;)

So, in general it would be easier to call it "isolated scores" and collect all of the variations under that name.

But i do agree with you and i know quite a few here will also agree, that what is played in the movie is what i want as a "complete" version. Of course, i want all the other versions as well ;). The recording sessions are interesting to listen to and compare with both the film version and the official release, just to hear the evolution of things, but also because of it being closest to what the composer was trying to achieve. The film version is the "middle-way" of what the composer wants and what the director wants and the official release is what they think will sell the best.

First of the summer treats... I watched the movie yesterday for the first time (to be able to name some of the tracks) and i have to say that for a film from 1995, the CGI was quite ok. And now for something i have been putting off for too long - a re-rip of Danny Elfman's score to Corpse Bride.

Yes, a re-rip. I know i did post it quite a while back. Is this the same then? Yes and no. I have included the vocals to the songs. The isolated score had the instrumental versions. The reason for doing this is that the songs in the film are slightly different than what has been officially released. Granted, it's only four tracks and granted, it's only one of them (According to Plan) that is noticeably different and granted once more, i used the CD version for the rest of them.

For those of you that have only listened to the officially released versions, the instrumental versions as heard in the audio track for the isolated score are added as a bonus at the end of the tracklist :) might be interesting to listen to (karaoke anyone?) :-P

This is more the version i wanted to do from the beginning and i also bought the bluray which had a higher quality audiostream, but still not genuine lossless. The tracks are edited and remixed in their original form - 24 bit/48 kHz and then downconverted to 16 bit/44.1 kHz FLAC.

From what i can see it's a "music/effects track on analog right".

And there are actually quite a few laserdiscs with isolated scores which would make it interesting to buy, but the prices... ? Forget it.

Anyway, to answer your question - no, sorry. Haven't come across all that many isolated scores from laserdiscs at all, actually. I think i might have two, Scanners and The Fog.

I made a quick runthrough of a list of isolated scores on laserdiscs that i found and it seems most of them were mono only and a lot of those were as mentioned above, music AND sfx.

Danny Elfman, Mars Attacks! isolated DVD score (1996)

This is basically the bootleg that has been out there for quite a while now. What's the differences? The first official release didn't have nearly as much music as the later ones (LaLa-Land & The Music Box). The Music Box has the film version of "The Landing" which LaLa-Land's doesn't. LaLa Land's release is the one to get if you want the best quality and mixing though, but for completeness - my rip or the bootleg. But then again, none of them are true lossless. The differences between the bootleg and my rip? The editing/mixing and the splitting of tracks. Otherwise they should be pretty much the same, contentwise. Well, let me quote myself:




An isolated score is simply the music as a separate audio track on the DVD/BluRay (as opposed to the regular audio track with speech and SFX). Sometimes there is only music, sometimes it has the composer's commentary as well and if you're lucky, those commentaries do not mix with the music. There might also be significant drops in music volume due to composer's commentaries and those isolated scores takes a lot more work before they're done.
Rips of the front or rear or any channels with sfx and/or speech are NOT isolated scores but "simply" something where someone has tried isolating the music from the speech and SFX.
This thread will not have any such rips. It will only be about isolated scores.



;) i kinda had the feeling you had the terminology wrong (as so many others). But that being said, to try to isolate the music from speech and sfx will not produce a good enough result in relation to the amount of work you have to put into it. I can say that there isn't more than a handful of scores that i would even consider investigating if it's worth it and perhaps 3 that i would try to do it with anyway.

Thor: The Dark World is one that i have tried (even before the complete version leaked that is out here now) but there is NO WAY you can produce a clean enough copy of it. The sfx and speech is all over the place, in each and every channel of the 7.1 audio stream. So... i gave that up :(

I strongly suspect that is why many people stay away from this little thread of mine... they think it's all about music that i have tried removing the sfx and speech from and that they are afraid they're still audible and not many want that. I guess i could have gotten more attention if i had posted them one by one in their own thread and called them "complete" or "expanded" or whatever...

Ah well, i have found and bought more than 100 DVDs and BluRays that had an isolated score plus that there have been a few users here that have been kind enough to share that specific audiostream with me. Thanks to all of you, you know who you are :)

I have yet to be able to locate a full sourced bluray with the isolated score and commentary by Goldsmith.
All places I look, only have encodes with just the main audio.

It's still on sale at Screen Archives, I might buy one next month.

$29.99, conversion from Canadian to US = $37.95 for me.
+ S&H + maybe taxes. Sometimes I have to end up paying taxes (12%).
A lot closer to $50 if I decide to get it.

On bluray.com, I can only find Twilight Time release, and no other bluray release for the movie.

I think the isolated score on the Twilight Time's bluray release has its own audiostream? On the DVD it's coupled with Goldenthal's commentaries. Not sure if the commentaries mix with the music? Perhaps gururu can answer that? Anyway, the audio on the bluray is DTS-HD :)

I understand what you mean though, but aside from using the incorrect term for it - What do you mean by "TRUE"? There is no edit where anyone has succeeded in removing speech and sfx entirely from this music. If you mean that you are looking for the complete music as heard in the films, i think it should be around. You would have as much luck as anyone else using the search function here ;) but the complete versions as heard in the films, completely WITHOUT speech and sfx? I would love that as well, but i haven't found them...

Yes, i was thinking along those lines... In fact, if i hadn't posted so many isolated scores already in this thread, i might have started new ones with them all and titled all of them something like "Expanded this and that" or Complete this and that". Expanded & Complete always lures people more than Isolated. Ah well... their loss, not mine. I have them ;)

Does anyone know where to find true isolated scores for the original Star Wars trilogy (theatrical)? I'm looking for the soundtracks that include all the musical film edits and I can't seem to find them anywhere.

A well known fanmade HD restoration/reconstruction project of the original trilogy (I won't say the name, just in case) contains many audio tracks, including a reconstruction of the original theatrical mixes (70mm and 35mm), the mono tracks of SW and ESB (but they sound bad, the sources were theatrical prints in bad shape), isolated scores and dubs. It is very, very easy to find those releases. They are synchronized to the GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy, the fan name given to the theatrical versions contained in the 2006 DVD... which were sourced from the masters used for the Laserdisc releases of the nineties, which is why they look like pure crap), so you can remux any of the tracks with said DVDs if you want too. A well known fanmade HD restoration/reconstruction project of the original trilogy (I won't say the name, just in case) contains many audio tracks, including a reconstruction of the original theatrical mixes (70mm and 35mm), the mono tracks of SW and ESB (but they sound bad, the sources were theatrical prints in bad shape), isolated scores and dubs. It is very, very easy to find those releases. They are synchronized to the GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy, the fan name given to the theatrical versions contained in the 2006 DVD... which were sourced from the masters used for the Laserdisc releases of the nineties, which is why they look like pure crap), so you can remux any of the tracks with said DVDs if you want too. One of my biggest interests are isolated scores from DVD and Bluray...

To clarify for those wondering:


An isolated score is simply the music as a separate audio track on the DVD/BluRay (as opposed to the regular audio track with speech and SFX). Sometimes there is only music, sometimes it has the composer's commentary as well and if you're lucky, those commentaries do not mix with the music. There might also be significant drops in music volume due to composer's commentaries and those isolated scores takes a lot more work before they're done.
Rips of the front or rear or any channels with sfx and/or speech are NOT isolated scores but "simply" something where someone has tried isolating the music from the speech and SFX.
This thread will not have any such rips. It will only be about isolated scores.


What you are asking for is not an isolated score and would not be posted in this thread. Why not try the request section?

Cutter's Way is a true isolated score. A few cues blend right into some mariachi songs, but most of the cues are clean and sound really good. Great score.

They don't come as separate tracks, they come as a separate audiostream on the Laser Disc/DVD/BluRay (meaning NOT the default audiostream with speech and sfx). The formats i have for those audiostreams range from AC3 (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1), DTS (5.1), DTS-HDMA (5.1), TrueHD (5.1) and PCM (2.0). I have about 90 DVDs and BluRays with an isolated score and have with the help of kind users here, found perhaps 30 more. The smallest is perhaps 130 MB and the biggest more than 2.2 GB.

I try to buy those i find at a reasonable price. Unfortunately the Twilight Time releases (which release Cutter's Way fall under) are expensive (30 US$ + 10 US$ international shipping) and also limited releases (in the case of Cutter's Way - 3000 copies). So, even if there were copies left, i would not be prepared to pay 40 US$ for anything else than something that i REALLY wanted the isolated score from. And it's understandable that people might feel reluctant to share something they paid that kind of money for, BUT... the main issue here, i believe, is that those few that get to buy these releases simply aren't aware of even WHAT an isolated score is.

If someone happens to have a DVD/BluRay with an isolated, but don't know how to rip the audiostream, i would be happy to help so more people can share these goodies with the rest of us :) if that someone also wants help with editing, i would also be happy to help. I just got the Twilight Time of Hammer's Hound of the Baskervilles. It has the iso music & effects track. I love James Bernard's music. Will definately be ripping and editing this. It isnt a long score- perhaps about 25 minutes. Will post when finished if there is interest.

After recovering from a back injury, I'll be getting on base with projects again.

I'll upload tonight, DTS audio for the Twilight Time's bluray for "Born Free".

There's a lot of confusion about the source. All available scans say the audio is just DTS.
Which makes it lossy DTS audio. Not DTS-HD Master Audio, as advertised on the case and the website.
Reveiwers only watch movies on the disc. They don't copy them to the computer, let alone confirm technical specs of the disc.
And reviewers for bluray discs don't pay much attention to isolated scores, short of saying "the music played and it was good."
But people who bought the disc and are tech savy, confirm that the disc was not produced with a lossless DTS-HD MA track.
I'm guessing the only people who bought the movie aren't tech savy and don't know and don't care about this. SO they won't take it up through official channels with TT. Hence, no re-print or fix. No market for proper releases since no one buys it.
On the bluray.com forum, someone did bring it up but a rep from TT only gave a generic response. Public forums are not the proper channels to deal with any such technicalities in production of the disc. Especially with no receipt.

So, the only place I was ever able to find an untouched bluray for Born Free will have the lossy DTS ripped from it and uploaded.
Since it's lossy DTS, any program can import the audio. It doesn't matter anymore.

Now, there's another concern.
There are sfx in the music. You can sometimes hear bleeding dialogue. Or you can sometimes hear faint environment sfx.
It is there. It's not constant, like it was with Shout!Factory/Scream!Factory release of Ravenous (1999).
This is miles away from being a botched Shout!Factory release.

I'll just post a flac conversion. Anyone that wants to edit it, please keep informing people of its lossy source.
FLAC is lossless, but in thise case, it will losslessly keep the lossy audio.
It's not an upgrade. By any means. It's a presevartion tactic and should be forwarned to others about it.

And this is why it's so hard to find complete rips of the TTs bluray releases:

1. They are in limited numbers
2. If there is to be a complete, this specific release needs to get in the hands of someone who knows how to and who cares. Since most people only wants to watch the film, they download that, the film only. Which has the barebones - Video and default audiostream
3. Not a lot of people care enough about the extras available on the TT releases so if anyone scene related decides to do a complete rip, they get the vanilla edition that is much easier to get and has what most people cares about: The documentaries, commentaries and not to forget - The Gag Reel ;) But lacks the isolated score.

Thanks for the upload anyway :) People need to be reminded that everything flac (or the like) doesn't necessarily need to be lossless. It all depends on the source and how you rip it.

And as a sidenote - The Hunt Episode 6 will get uploaded in a day or two. I have the final splitting and editing to do, 1/4 done though

Great stuff!! All this is really going to stand out whenever I play a survival game. :awsm:
I really love the atmosphere that Price set up with the series.

Yeah, the place I go to doesn't allow custom blurays and the software they use doesn't change anything on the disc. So sadly it seems it was the fault TT.
Unless someone here has it and is willing to learn to use MakeMKV to check the disc structure to prove otherwise.

Right, so I have good news and bad news.

Today I was gifted a Blu-ray of The Nude Bomb (the 1980 Get Smart movie with Don Adams) released by Madman Entertainment on Wednesday of last week here in Australia. It has an isolated track of Lalo Schifrin's score!

However, after my recent upgrade to Win10 my Blu-ray burner will no longer work because the drivers are not compatible with Win10, and, therefore I can't rip the isolated track.

I guess, this post is really useless to anyone here other than the fact that an isolated track of Schifrin's is on the market, so it serves as a heads up to someone that may be able to buy it and rip the track.

The only way to successfully separate out those source cues would be if the isolated score was a multichannel presentation and the source cues only were present in, say, the front channels. You could remove those channels when the source music was playing, but then again, you would also be removing the score music that is present in those channels. There is no magic when it comes to mono or stereo channels. If the source music (or speech/sfx) is there, it's almost impossible to remove it. Just very slightly easier with sfx since those are in a limited frequency range

The Spanish sounding music is meant to be mixed (sampled) into the main titles theme. Just as a side note. It's astonishing why this soundtrack has taken so long to be available considering the rubbish out there.

It's still not confirmed to definitely have the iso score.

And just Amazon Germany has the bundle with the Black/White version, and no extra details revealed about the features.

The director says he wants it with the iso score, but until the details for the bundle are released or discovered, there's no way of knowing.

And it's still for pre-order and no one is going to have this early.
Release date is October 25
And yes, things can get released earlier than normal, but never this early.

The site added that Miller had told them he "demanded" Warner Bros. release the black and white cut on the Blu-ray, with an option to just hear the isolated score as the only sound in the film. However, it would appear those plans have been scuttled.

Unfortunatley not much... Time and energy is not on my side at the moment. But i have it prepared for editing and i have had a first quick listen. I know there was a discussion about this last episode and the music. If it was tracked music or if it was someone else that made it. All i can say is that it doesn't sound like the music from the first six episodes, not even in style. So, if anyone has some info and facts to back it up, step right up ;) I will finish this, just not making any promises as to when. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

I was under the impression that the isolated score was them using tracks from the then current Rhino release, since they had come out at the same time. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember. A user did do a complete set (Thread 98826) that used the isolated tracks, but doesn't seem to be shared. Oh well. I might do it once I get a BD drive.

I think the DVD with the isolated score was released before the Rhino version, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, the DVD has the isolated score in 5.0 but the bluray has it in 5.1. Perhaps time to get Superman on bluray... i have it on DVD though and the AC3 sitting on my HD so it wouldn't be a biggie to do a rip of it. The DVD also has 8 bonus tracks. Can't say if they are present on the bluray.

Just chiming in with a few facts :)

The Superman isolated score was created from Eric Tomlinson's 6-track mixes, not the Rhino set, and those same elements were used for the FSM edition. And the Blu-ray does have the 8 additional cues

Excellent! I was gonna write, but I clearly didn't know my facts. I'll be doing the rip then, since I do own the 4 DVD 2006 set, as well as the Blu-ray anthology with both cuts. It's probably the same mix, I imagine, but it's best to have two different copies.

Are you planning on editing? If not, why do you want to split it? Anyway, i think MKVToolNix can split an AC3 by timecodes.

If you have ripped the bluray, i would definitely be interested in the AC3. For some reason didn't my "The Superman Motion Picture Anthology" bluray-box include the isolated score. I guess i should have paid more attention when buying it, but the isolated wasn't in my mind at the time.

EDIT: And yes, i have the DVD with the isolated, but as i stated, that is 5.0. Not sure about the bitrate of the AC3 on the bluray, but it's 5.1 so it's a small upgrade and gives a separate channel for the sub. The bitrate in itself might not be better though.

The bitrate on DVD is 383, while the Blu-ray is 683.

Every Blu-ray should have the isolated score. It's in the special features, not in languages.

I know it's better to use Audacity, but I could just post the file unedited, since I have school now.

Also, I can't do the Blu-ray yet. I don't quite have the drive for it at the moment.

"683" is the better bitrate version.
It should 640kbps.
683 is not a standard for bluray specification, nor AC3 specification.

I'll see what I can do for the bluray.
I should have the AC3 stream in a day or so.

It will be better than the DVD stream.

They would need to go out their way to remove the isolated score. On purpose.
I'm talking a looong way out of their way to get rid of the isolated score.

They didn't omit it.
When it comes to full blurays, the sites I go to, they have rules about uploading the blurays.
No one customizes.

I see another bluray with just 5.0 in 640.
That seems like the real thing.
The .1 seems useless, imo and just put there for legacy reasons (aka compatibility).

Don't forget who you're talking to.
I'm not a typcial shriner that will blindly accept things.
I'd be a mascot for Rutracker if that were the case. :laugh:

Since the movie has so many releases and different cuts, that also has a factor on "every bluray".

The running time for the restoration is shorter than the theatrical.
But someone who's a real fan should be able to tell if if the extra 10 minutes has anything and what the difference is.

I have no idea if the extended edition anywhere has the isolated score.

I'm only seeing Restoration out there, since probably most want that version and no one cares abotu the other blurays.

EDIT: Restoration is the longer one between Theatrical v Restoration.

The only version of the first Superman film that is on my bluray set is the original theatrical version. And that disc does NOT contain the isolated score:

I specifically ordered the blu-ray anthology (the cardboard box version) where the top half includes the shield and slides down on the lower half. That came from USA but according to blu-ray.com was region free (and verified by now). That's the one I have. The one Europe got was a silly slipcase. The box was so much nicer I didn't mind waiting. If that has the isolated score then that's the one I have ;)

I can provide the AC3 from the DVD in the next few days (hard to pinpoint) if HunterTech doesn't beat me to it :)

EDIT: just read Calidoran's post above mine. Oooooh :) Now I get it. No, indeed. The isolated track was an additional feature on the EXPANDED disc of the film, not the theatrical. If the single-disc blu-ray HunterTech linked to has the extended version too then that's most likely on there as well :)

I did see the versions both of you mentioned. Though I don't know the exact details, I assume it's a simplier international copy (unless Warners did a quick release for a quick buck here).

Unless someone beats me to it... it will come. The isolated has some different cuts compared to the FSM & Rhino releases. It also misses some parts and adds a few. I don't know, but some might think some fade-ins/outs sound a bit awkward but i will not try to correct that. The only thing that will result in is someone else complaining about me not leaving it as in the film ;)

I believe you :) what i meant was that it was weird that this piece of music wasn't included on any of those two releases (Rhino/FSM). Or was it? As i said, i had a quick listen and couldn't find it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Indeed it is :) the last two minutes or so. Well, then that mystery is solved. The same music used twice. It could very well be for one of the extended scenes then, since it comes between Super Rescues and The Terrace. Anyone with the extended version of the film that can confirm there is an extra scene there?

And then some other set out there.

Preferably NTSC, as it's an NTSC production and wouldn't require any pitch testing.
