That's really cool!
If you get a chance in the near future it'd be most appreciated if you started working on those. :)
Not all at once, of course, just whenever you have the time to grab one or two.
I assume they'll have to sent to eac3to for PAL -> NTSC conversion at some point.

Check my links in previous posts. Mr Gold gave up.
Apparently there's sfx and that's what made him a quitter.
There was a lot of confusion.

So I'm going to take over the lead project so there's no mistakes or misunderstandings.

I found a torrent for the Golden Collection DVD.
I just need to make room for ~120GB.

I'lll look for the bluray later but last time I tried to look for anything Looney Toons related, the only thing people keep is the main audio track.
Or they convert to AAC.

I'll have to do the math for one disc.

I know there's rules if you grab at least 10%, you have to seed that forever.
So there's that caveat.

I think the bluray might be easier to randomly select any one file and still be under 10%.
Bluray structure is more forgiving than DVD where's it all one giant VOB split into smaller ones.

Perhaps not really my place to chime in since I was/am in no way part of this project but wouldn't it have been easier to ask Mr Gold if he still wanted to contribute by uploading the untouched DVDs to MEGA, if he wasn't tech savvy enough to help out in the actual ripping/cleaning department ? As you said Spark, let's not rush it, so you still could have gotten all of the discs without lousy torrenting and ratios.

As far as I know, in regards to the Golden Collection, and Platinum Collection, there's a few select shorts (must be around 50 or less, maybe more in the whole collection?) that are Music Only, others are Music & SFX, the Music Only tend to appear more on the newest shorts from around the 50s. Some of them tend to have even the Recording Session cue start at them. Others are just the music. And those that have the music only sound very good.

I think this is a good project that people shouldn't give up on that easily. I'd understand Mr.Gold because I am not a high techy guy either for this kind of stuff. However, Mr. Gold, I thought you didn't mind music with a bit of SFX..? You have thousands of collections of your own custom, ripped from DVD, and you don't mind.. What's the matter with this one?

This would be a nice project to continue on, but hey, if you guys decide to just leave it. Fine then. *shrug*

A quick count:

51 music only
17 music/sfx

And i might buy the box myself. Depends on if i can get it confirmed that the isolated are not a region 1 exclusive, which is far to common :(

I was just wondering for the reason of the region 2 DVDs needing pitch correction. That way you would have something to compare with to get it right.

James (The Disney Guy)
08-26-2016, 11:12 AM
I Have Been Doing Them As Instructed. I Have Not Even Converted to MP3 (Except A Couple Just To Listen to In Itunes)

So I Donno. It Just Seems Far To Many That Say "Music Only" Have SFX.
Out of 22 Only 7 Were Clean.
It Just Seems Feuite.

I was just wondering for the reason of the region 2 DVDs needing pitch correction. That way you would have something to compare with to get it right.

Because anything not designed to run at the PAL framerate goes to Region 2 with a slightly faster framerate (and therefore a slightly faster pitch).
ea3to has an algorithm to automatically pitch-correct anything.

Calidoran
08-26-2016, 08:18 PM
I know about the tech specs ;) been doing this for a while. It's just that i have actually ripped region 2 DVDs that did NOT need any pitch correction and i discovered that AFTER pitch correcting. EAC3TO has an automatic algorithm? Interesting... In one of the newer versions then?

TheSkeletonMan939
08-26-2016, 08:19 PM
Use -slowdown and -speedup as options.

Calidoran
08-26-2016, 08:30 PM
Not exactly automatic then, is it? ;) i know about the options (listed here)

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966

and have been using them all the time. It's just that the way you worded it made it sound as if EAC3to had implemented an algorithm that took care of that automatically. Too good to be true... yet.

TheSkeletonMan939
08-26-2016, 09:31 PM
Apologies for the lack of clarity. What I meant was that the option allows for that specific pitch-change without you necessarily having to do drop it into an audio editor, research the exact tempo alteration, etc.

Would be interesting to hear the reasoning by the companies when they decide what goes on a DVD/BluRay...

Sometimes a creator will lobby really hard for an isolated score.
Bruce Timm was a fanboy of the composers for Justice League Unlimited, and the series finale episode had wall-to-wall music. He pushed for the home video guys to include an isolated score to the episode for the DVD.

Calidoran

Done some digging and here is some additional info regarding The Looney Tunes isolated scores. All listed for DVDs here:

http://www.dvdcompare.net

are correct except for two that doesn't have any. Then quite a few are listed as music only when in reality they are music AND sfx.

The bluray release Platinum Collection contains fewer isolated than the DVDs, but they have 11 that are not present on the DVDs. 3 of those are listed as music and sfx.

Golden Collection (DVD)
61 with music only or music/sfx

Platinum Collection (bluray)
32 with music only or music/sfx

I can't verify these, just found the info on the internet and put it together.

Which brings the total number of isolated with or without sfx to 72.

Back from vacation (which was very nice, thank you :) ) and offering you not one, but TWO isolated scores. Both are by John Morris and both are from Mel Brooks films. The scores are High Anxiety and Young Frankenstein.

The procedure this time is a bit different if you want these:

1. Click "Like"
2. Post a "Thanks" (feel free to add any other comment as well).
3. YOU send ME a PM asking for the links (or you could ask http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/tapoktro-765906 he steals everything anyway)

The reason for this is that i have grown tired of posting and having no idea how many that really are interested in my posts. Another reason is that your posts helps to bump this thread and make it more visible for others.

Not that hard, huh? :)

Ok, here's the info:

To tell you the truth... every weekend (and i mean every) since summer vacation has been busy. And not many of them with positive stuff. I know, i sound like a broken record (for those of you that still remember the vinyls). But when upcoming weekend is done there are hopefully not any more "musts" in a good while and things will just as hopefully return to normal. Well, more normal than right now at least :)

I have some stuff i have "promised" to deliver and they will come:

Last part (7) of The Hunt
Born Free
Vampires

I might as well put them here in this post to remind me ;) should there be something else besides those that someone feels i have forgotten, feel free to post a reminder here as well.

Newly discovered isolated scores (using 5.1 audio and muting dialogue channels):

Good Burger - Stewart Copeland
Double Jeopardy - Normand Corbeil
Fist of Legend (English dub) - Stephen Edwards
Friday - Nile Rodgers
Beverly Hills Cop 3 - Nile Rodgers
The Breakfast Club - Keith Forsey
Kingsman Secret Service - Henry Jackman
Dante's Peak - John Frizzell (in this case, one cue missing from bootleg where the first eruptuion occurs that lasts about 5-6 mins)

I intend to get working on these once I have the necessary software and what not.

Not critizising your intended work and efforts, but those are NOT isolated scores. To quote myself from my first post in this thread:

To clarify for those wondering:

An isolated score is simply the music as a separate audio track on the DVD/BluRay (as opposed to the regular audio track with speech and SFX). Sometimes there is only music, sometimes it has the composer's commentary as well and if you're lucky, those commentaries do not mix with the music. There might also be significant drops in music volume due to composer's commentaries and those isolated scores takes a lot more work before they're done.
Rips of the front or rear or any channels with sfx and/or speech are NOT isolated scores but "simply" something where someone has tried isolating the music from the speech and SFX.
This thread will not have any such rips. It will only be about isolated scores.

Most often an isolated score is listed as a special feature on the DVD/BluRay, sometimes not. But as i state in my quote, using the default audio stream and trying to remove speech and sfx does not make it an isolated score :) This is one of the most common misconceptions and one that is so very hard to get rid of since so many people keep using the incorrect term for it.

I'm thinking of adding something to all posts i make here. A short explanation of this and also a reference to the first post so people realize just how many isolated scores i have posted and which ones. They're all listed there. But since not many bothers to browse through a thread with (as of now) 74 pages and getting closer to 2000 posts, perhaps a hint on where to look for the info is in place.

Also... sorry for not finding the time to upload John Carpenter's Vampires last weekend. I will try to do so upcoming weekend instead. More than halfway done but there is one track that is difficult. Heavy volume fluctuations and i have tried to find that same piece of music used somewhere else, but no luck. As a last resort i'll try to correct it, but if that doesn't sound good, i'll just use it as it is.

Calidoran
10-20-2016, 10:48 AM
No, not really tired. I try to make it clear to everyone what an isolated score is. That's all i can do. And hope that information spreads instead. What makes me tired though, is when people are too lazy to FIND information (an no, i am NOT accusing any one particular person). That is why i have collected all information on what i have posted in the first post in this thread and also the info and specifics on what is an what isn't an isolated score. But when people just jump in on the last page and expect everything to be served on a silver platter... THAT makes me tired. Those that think that everything that is available for download exists on the last page only and are too lazy to check the first post as well... it's their loss, not mine.

I don't know. Perhaps a collection as the one i have posted here would be better suited on a webpage of their own, like a blog or something. It's something to think about, but it also means a whole lot more work and time for me and i don't feel i have the time and energy right now to make a blog like that continue to be interesting. It would take uploads not too far apart in time, posting stuff interesting enough to make it worth reading and besides... i would be an easy target for the "powers above". I am sure it would not be appreciated to start a blog like that and that they would put the hammer down quite hard. Which would make all the time and effort i poured into it wasted.

People do not listen or read ... it frustrates me that calidoran spends so much time doing these ISO scores and then someone comes along out of left field , with completely the wrong idea of what its about . Leave it to the experts thats what i say !!

Calidoran

We can all be experts in our own way. If codyofgvs manages to pull of a rip of the default audiostream and at the same time makes it (relatively) free of speech and sfx, i know i would be interested to listen to a couple of the ones he mentioned. Unfortunately the amount of work included in making most (not all) default audiostreams is not worth the trouble when you listen to the end result. And there are in fact perhaps less than 5 that i would consider worth it. I have made one re-creation of the theatrical score as it sounds in the film and that took ages and the end result was ok. That score was Alien by Jerry Goldsmith and is posted here at the shrine in a separate thread. There are two more that i'm working on from time to time, but not finished yet...

Eagerly awaiting Born Free.

Status report:

I have it split into tracks (not edited). I have put titles to some (not all) of the tracks. Need to compare the isolated to what's officially been released and then watch the film to be able to put titles to the rest of the tracks.

Might get done this weekend, might not. But it will be done in a not too distant future.

The Hunt, Episode 7 - Living with Predators (Conservation) (stereo and surround)

With three-quarters of the planet's carnivores now in decline, can people find ways to live with predators before they disappear forever?

I think you better check out the first post in this thread. I've put an explanation on what an isolated score is there. Just to get things straight :) I guess someone could try to rip the audio from that film and then spend lots of hours trying to remove the speech and sfx, but that is not an isolated score.

About The chase, the isolated score is far from perfect. Some voices or sound effects can be heard. But if you really want it, I will post it tomorrow.

I also wanted to post the isolated score for the adventures of Robin Hood from the blu ray but I am not sure that it will be better than the one posted by Calidoran from the DVD. Same thing for Little shop of horrors. So, for the moment, I will not post them.

Calidoran

Mary, Queen of Scots has indeed crossed my path ;) and i might as well reveal it. I was planning on posting 3 isolated scores by Barry:

Born Free
The Chase
Mary, Queen of Scots

Not sure if i should mention them by name since i can't work in peace on them then. The Chase is already up and i was in the process of removing the faint speech and SFX that still could be heard. No use uploading the same once more, i'll continue working on it though and keep it for my own archival purposes.

Both Born Free and Mary, Queen of Scots are in their final state of editing, no "remastering" done. All i have to do is to put titles on the tracks, which for me means watching the films. There are not enough hours in the day to let me do all the things i have to/need to/want to do, but they will come (except The Chase then)

Well, the Mary, Queen of Scots is in no way lossless to start with (DVD), but the quality (frequency-wise) will be as good as it gets given the source. The quality of the audio itself is not the best. Some very faint "ticking sound in the background, barely audible.

codyofgvs
12-04-2016, 04:59 PM

Hi, Calidoran. I apologize for the confusion. I also apologize for not taking time to read thoroughly. I consider them "isolated" because of having listened to them with the center channel muted, FOR THE MOST PART, no SFX or dialogue. I guess I should've referred to them as rips. Cause that's what they really are. I have performed several rips already. Take a look at my sig! Sorry again!

I have never heard of it and can't find any info on it. My reply was somewhat sarcastic. In my first post i try to explain WHAT an isolated score is, but people still get it wrong. I don't believe it's because they don't read the first post in a thread, is it? (yes, some more sarcasm) :-P

I'm afraid there are far too many that don't want to do any work at all when it comes to forums, but i think the least you can ask is that they check the first post as a starting point. I can understand if they don't want to browse through all 77 pages of posts. That's why i have gathered all info on what i have posted at the beginning of the thread and i try to keep it updated whenever i post something new.

I see. Thank you once again for this precious info. ^^

I was already looking for "As Good As It Gets" in the shrine, except the "film score hunt thread, v2"...
I only found the official soundtrack, which I already have for years. :/

Well... that sucks :( i just bought the 50th Anniversary bluray of Hitchcock's movie for the only reason of it having the isolated score of Bernard Herrmann. Turns out it's ONLY the first pressing that has the isolated score. 2nd and 3rd pressings have dropped it and some more extras...

Bummer :(

Sure i still have the DVD with the isolated, but it would have been nice to get the same on bluray.

The Way We Were - Marvin Hamlisch (FLAC)

Ok, some were asking for this a while back. I got it from a user here (if that user wishes to make him/herself known, go right ahead :) )

This is as it was given to me, no editing whatsoever is done. The only thing i have done is to convert it to FLAC. No tracknames, but a tracklist of sorts follows.

well...i watch the single version and the 3 disc version...nothing on the main menu (just a looped track)...

I have a single disc version and just recently bought the 3 disc version because it was on sale for $20.
Copied the entire discs using MakeMKV and then ran them through BDEdit and checked with Slysoft's CloneBD.

Found nothing over 2 minutes for the menus.

I only did the main feature disc for the 3 disc version.

BDedit it is quite complex to navigate through to see if anything is there for menus.
It did, however, give me a warning notification that "sound.bdmv" was missing.
This is probably where the music would be if it were there.
Sound.bdmv is quite often used for all the sounds to the menu if it's not attached to an .m2ts stream.
In most cases, it's easier to make the main menu a video stream in the background (.m2ts) and keep the buttons silent with overlay text.
The complex option and funnest is to assign sound effects with sound.bdmv, and sometimes short clips of music.

AFAIK, MakeMKV doesn't neglect files like that.
The settings for MakeMKV have debug enabled, so it would show if it decided to ignore the sound.bdmv file.

With the billion releases they have out there for Avatar, one of them must have it.
It might even have to be imported from another country (UK, GER, JPN, etc).
The sites I go to, have limited releases. And, unfortunately, no film score afiacondo's so I can't really tell.
I can try check for a list of files and see if any have "sound.bdmv".

Only, I can't remember if I was ever able to extract sound.bdmv files.
(that's if that's indeed where the extra music is on a different release we don't have)

---------- Post added at 12:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 PM ----------

Also, for menu interactions, you'd most likely find anything in...

When ripped to disc in folder mode:
BLURAY_TITLE\BDMV\JAR\...

The JAR folder is where the content for menus are stored.
You can view contents in the .jar files themselves with 7zip.

Basically, any folder that isn't STREAM, is a good place to check.
If any other folder is over 100MB, that should be a good indication.
Those other folders are generally extremely small.

EDIT:

So I found one with sound.bdmv.
But it's extremely small. So it's for button sounds.
BDMV/AUXDATA/sound.bdmv 111.66 kiB

All the other discs seem to be the same.
Very much the same size. Only less than 100MB in difference.
So either the score is in very low bitrate in a very low quality format...
Or no one has the disc...
Or the person who submitted the entry used either a custom disc or was high.

Anyone planning on doing Henry Mancini's TWO FOR THE ROAD, available on Twilight Time's new Blu Ray? Would kill for a copy of that.

Would you be willing to buy the bluray instead of killing? :-P

Seriously, a lot of people want the isolated scores from Twilight Time's blurays, but none are willing to buy them. They are hard to find ripped and even then, the audio stream with the isolated score is usually gone. This means you would have to find a full copy of it, meaning you would have to download 35-40 GB just to be able to rip that one audio stream. And buying it means paying at least twice as much as a regular bluray costs, IF you are lucky to be one of the select few that gets to buy it.

So, i would be happy to do the rips if someone else gets the bluray or a full copy of it.

Please! send me the link ...thanks

Seriously? Take a look at your post and then just a centimeter or two ABOVE that and read what it says... I might have sent you a link if it wasn't so obvious what i asked people to do and everyone (almost) managed to do. Try again?

... weird. People keep finding this thread no matter how deeply buried it gets. But as you can see, not many chose to post something in it - 10 posts in 5 months. I know i'm not all that active, but i don't think anyone can say that i have refused to send out links at least.
