Yet another release by TSfH. Are these guys just that creative?

Yeah, that's what I thought at first thought too. But the reality is they buy cues from other composers without crediting them on the album covers or website.
IM does the same thing but they credit all the composers of their songs

Check out these 3 legend tracks composed by Troels Follman
http://trailermusicnews.blogspot.com/2008/09/troels-folmann-presents-epic-reel-2008.html (great advertising for you blog huh :p)

So they are creative, but not that creative as everybody is imagining :)

Dear Licenturion, that statement is actually false. Nick and I work really hard (I haven't had a vacation for as long as I can remember) and we've written 99.9% of all the music in the TSFH library. Troels Folmann is a great friend of mine and the ONLY 3rd party composer we've worked with at TSFH. He is credited on the CD cover of Legend and in our library database for his great contributions. He also contributed a few tracks to Dynasty and D&I but requested to remain anonymous at the time. We do not wish to lead anyone behind the light. Having said that we thank you for bringing this to our attention. Cheers!

Thanks Thomas for coming over here and communicating with us :) A lot of us have a ton of respect and admiration for your musical style and are looking forward to the public release.

It is just unfortunate that this line of music isn't made for public listening by default. However we get to listen to the albums, know that we go to great lengths to obtain them so we simply can enjoy the music in our own personal experience.

Edit: Great work with the track. Exactly what I expected :) As a side request for those of us that enjoy high quality music, could the public release be offered up in 320 kbit quality or even Apple Lossless files? Or even better a physical CD? itunes distribution usually isn't of good enough quality

Wow, thank you very much for your wonderful response! Our fans are extremely important to us even though our music is currently marketed to a very exclusive industry. The music on Nemesis II will go far beyond the typical format of trailer music and offer much more in terms of pure listening experience. TSFH for me is first and foremost an artistic endeavor, and although the necessary income foundation for my work rests on the shoulders of the mighty movie studios, true acknowledgement as an artist comes, not from major blockbuster credits, but from the ultimate feedback of my fans. You inspire us and hopefully the music on Nemesis II will reflect that.

PS! We are currently looking into physical CD distribution through CDbaby. MP3s will be in 320kbps and hopefully not DRM'd if we can avoid it.

Thank you so much Thomas for returning to this forum! :D As a fan of your work, it means a lot to me, to have the ability to talk with you. Your music has truly inspired me, even leading me to pursue a possible composing career for the trailer style of music I have always liked, but never knew existed.

It's neat to hear you say that TSFH is foremost and artistic endeavor, and that Nemesis II will go beyond the format of typical trailer music. I think that you have a style all your own, and I admire your ability to create music that works really well for trailers, but is stylistically different than the epic trailer music norm. This adds a great quality to your music that I enjoy and appreciate.

And that is really great to hear that you do indeed intend to release a commercial album. I am looking forward to buying it!

Edit: Love 'Starvation'; awesome stuff.

Same with me. If I was much younger and heard this style of music I would probably put much effort in becoming a composer myself. Unfortunatly this music genre wasn't around when I was younger.

I agree that TJB his music is unlike most other trailer music like IM, AM or XRD. It's much more 'refined' and emotional then the pure bombast where all other companies are going for. I personally think that TJB his music is more appropiate to be appreciated by a wider audience than immediate music for instance.

TJB his music is not more mainstream but more accesible for all kinds of people I think thanks to wide range of emotions it can provoke...

I knew I heard it somewhere... so I checked and found out that Yoko Kanno also used Bulgarian Choirs on her Song to Fly album. And while this is not a soundtrack of any sort, Kanno's other work indeed is.

One of Xena's episodes also featured their "Kaval Sviri" track.
These choirs have been gaining popularity in recent years.

...also: "Kenji Kawai originally wanted to use Bulgarian folk singers [for Ghost in the Shell OST], but was unable to find any, so he relied on the Japanese folk song choir he used earlier..."

alimarie89,

If you wan to buy Ludovico Einaudi music which is often used for AV productions I recommand you this company http://www.dischivolanti.ch/. You will be able to get rare Italian soundtracks. Also if you look for public releases which are often used for synchronistation with sound films, you can try the American Philip Glass http://www.philipglass.com/, the Belgian Wim Mertens http://www.wimmertens.be, the French http://jphgoude.free.fr/ , the Portugese http://www.rodrigoleao.pt/ ....just to name a few.

I think the only answer to this is: when you have enough money for it
Licening costs are about 10000 to 13000$ for each licensed song for the more popular companies

Sorry about dragging this old post outO:] Is it ture?
Assume that i tend to purchase a licensed song<-:
After payment, what i am supposed to get?
A original track from CD/They are willing to score a custom cue which is similar with the original one?=-O

Yes it is true. When you want stuff from the TFOAC-series or TSFH stuff the cost are that high.

Costs also depending on other factors like: for what type of production do you want to use it (trailer, motion pictures, underscoring, ...), how will the production be spread (theater, dvd, internet, ...), where will the production be spread (regio), ...

If you license I guess you are an official client and probably get acces to the whole catalogue for future purchases.

If you are a hobbiest, you can forget it though...

2.Incidentally,what kind of games that will possibly feature with such massive choirs? (I guess there could be kind of some games about Middle Ages)

Yes it's from a game called Viking. It's a really epic game esp when the big battle marches start.

God Of War 1 and 2 features also this massive choral arrangements and is released too. Also Lair is a masterpiece. It includes (reduced) choirs and great arrangements.

It seems more and more video games get great soundtracks these days. Movie soundtracks tend to have a lot background filler and usually put choir dimmed out in the background layer of the music.

I like it when the choir is at the front of the music (like this OST). It's less subtle but better suited for videogames. Maybe a great idea for TJB, scoring videogames like his friend Troels Follman. I'm sure the result would be extra ordinary + it get's released (or ripped) :)

It seems this year is a great year for epic video game ost's. I'm waiting for Gears Of War 2 OST coming out in november and scored by Steve Jablonsky. (Transformers, D-War) and it's includes choir... According to the behind the scenes video it sounds great and epic...

Very strange, but at the same time, pretty cool. Maybe some of the better libraries will go this route someday. Hey, I can dream, can't I? :)

Because this kind of music is made specifically for production/commercial/movie purposes only. The only people that can legally have it are production studios.

The studios often get the CD's for free, but the songs, or portions of the songs are licensed for a fee, and it is usually in the 'thousands of dollars'.

Sometimes they do release music for the public to purchase (like Immediate Music's 'Trailerhead').

Anyone recognize the music from the new Harry Potter teaser trailer? In particular, I'm wondering about the bit from 0:48 seconds to the end.

The part of 00:48-01:08,no doubt,is With Iron Fist, but the rest of the end part is not :)))Whether its from Brand X Music or XRD,or even from John Williams ? Not sure=-O

I'm so interested in what the songs are called from [00:18 - 00:24] & [01:08 - 01:11]. They also sound like great tracks next to that great "With An Iron Fist" track. =) I hope we'll ever find out, because it's not on the soundtrack.net website...yet! ;-)

Epic Score - The Righteous (Action Adventure 3) is in there from 0:29
Immediate Music - With Iron Fist (TOFAC3)

Can't place the first and second song though.

Pfff, 5 songs in a 1:32 trailer including the original theme esp written for the movie. Nice way to spend too much advertising money and a nice way to chop some brilliant pieces of musical art up. It's like chopping up a Picasso and Van Gogh and throwing some pieces together...

"UPPM will be representing music from the catalog of Immediate Music", that means IM's music (perhaps not all albums) will be published on UPPM's website. That will give us "fans" an opportunity to freely listen to IM's tracks. And maybe this will be the opportunity to get to listen to the next releases from IM. Perhaps i misread but i think this is wuts gonna happen. Fingers crossed.

The composer is Nick Phoenix, you can find the track (not the custome one of course) on his website. Down With The Enterprise... lol That track was made especially for that movie or what ? Maybe Nick is a Star Trek fan ;)

Jake Wilson
11-19-2008, 08:04 PM
Hey Ericunsl and Shuyan, You're actually both right about Brian Tyler and TSFH That Trailer is a perfect blend of "Down with the Enterprise" and "War Begins" from Children of Dune....even though the bridge on Down with the Enterprise sounds the same as "War Begins" they used Brian Tyler cuz his song is a bit heavier than TSFH's bridge in that song...and I'm sure the studio wanted to give credit to more than one song for that Trailer.

ericunsl
11-19-2008, 08:28 PM
I knew my ears weren't playing tricks on me. Thanks for the info Jake and Shuyan. Nick Phoenix should be a household name like Horner, Williams and Zimmer. His stuff is excellent. wonder why he limits himself to trailers? I've spend the last hour on his site.
