I totally agree with you, Awareman. The companies say that their music has to be rare, so even people that like it and can't buy it aren't allowed to listen to it, because what makes this music so coveted is that is it rare. It's the only argument they find, given that they can't do money with us. And i think it's a bad argument... their music doesn't need to be rare to be so great.

Yeah.... this thread has become a cess pool of insanity. It says to download, but we can't, and no one will close the thread.. We want to listen to the music, but we can't because the companies that create it say that it wouldn't be cost-effective to mass-produce their music, since it would take away from the movie companies' desire to have it by making it more common... or something.
That is stupid because they could make A LOT of money just by releasing this stuff and even if the movie companies won't buy it to include in their trailers (which would be silly as well), I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in it and would buy this. They could just create this kind of music as every artist do when they create a new album ... for everybody.
I was always wondering why the music composers don't create their own trailer music for the film they work on ... I remember having heard the Stargate them during the trailers of "captain tomorrow", which I found ridiculous.

Anyway, releasing this will be a big success and will allow the composers of this music (or the companies producing it) to get a lot of money!

Now I'm no lawyer, but wouldnt using the music off a cd in that manner violate some kind of law some where? Its like asking for a lawsuit. Because people doesn't know about it!!
I didn't know about it until a friend sent me some files and I loved!
Companies must buy the rights to publish everything, so this is not an exception. This reasonment of the "rare" things is not working.

Their main argument is that there really aren't enough people that would buy their CDs. We, here, may think that our community is proof that lots of people would listen, but the fact is that they probably would lose money by releasing them on CDs. There just aren't enough people interested in their music to warrant them making it available (it's a shame though, since it is such great music).

And Macksis, I don't remember seeing that argument anywhere, but it is very likely that I just missed it. It makes a lot of sense to me... movie companies would no longer be charged as much for the use of individual tracks, since they could just buy the CD, and the music companies would probably lose even more.

But buying a cd doesnt mean you have permission to do whatever you want with the music, does it? RIAA has changed the rules so many times it hard to keep track.

You don't have it wrong. Movie companies have to acquire the rights to music no matter whether it's available to the public or not. The cost to buy the right to use the music commercially will always cost much more than buying the right to listen to the music. When a person buys a CD, they are only buying the right to listen to it, not the right to use the music in a production of some sort.
---
The trailer music industry is not going to change overnight. Some trailer companies are releasing their music to the public, but I wonder how successful it is. If people want the companies to make CD's commercially available, then the only thing that can be done is for people to voice their desire. Downloading the company's music illegally is not exactly gaining anyone's trust. Quite frankly, I'd be surprised if even voicing this desire to the companies would even do anything. I suppose vanton would be able to best gauge the possible response. Care to comment on this vanton?

In some respects the movie companies themselves might want the trailer music to remain exclusive. After all, they don't want people watching trailers for the music. They want people watching trailers to try and get them to go see the movie. Trailers sell movies, not music, and movie studios probably don't want that to change.

Domingo
03-26-2008, 07:06 PM
I would guess not. I mean, people can't go out and buy CDs and then use the music in their own productions without getting legal permission from the record company. I would imagine it would be much the same way with trailer music. They would still have to get permission, and possibly pay a little bit to get said permission. But it still seems to be the argument used by a lot of people that public releases devalue the music.

And on another note: Stupid RIAA...

*EDIT* What chrismm42 said.

But, precisely, if they don't release the music, more and more people WILL watch the trailers because it's their ONLY way to listen the music! So, they will watch the trailers for the music and not the movie.
Then, by releasing the CD's, it won't happen, and even, that would make publicity for the movie ...

There's another solution for them to release the music without creating CD's and without being illegal: the legal downloads!
Make them available on itunes or on any other website as many other do. We pay 1 euros/dolar for a song ...
That won't cost them a lot to do that!

But I assume they don't want simply ... that sucks because that's the only music I really love!

It's an understandable argument if you take into account that this music is only production music. It was never intented to be listened to the way we do. It was created for the sole purpose of editing trailers. It's understandable that once a track is used too often, clients (moviedistributers) will avoid it - because it invokes memories of other films, other projects etc. As a distributer you will do everything that YOUR movie is THE most original ever created. Adding a well known track to your trailer is a big "no no" because it makes your product half as original as you want it to be. You don't want to create a feeling of deja-vu in a trailer, it should be fresh and completely new.

What the composers didn't anticipate was the underground fanbase that started to appear once their music leaked online.
It may only be labeled "production music", in my honest opinion, some have more heart and soul than most "commercial" music available.
We can only hope the composeres themselves start realising this and will, in time, release their work to the regular consumer.

Thought I'd weigh in on the argument here. While I can appreciate the need to retain artistic license and all the rights that that entails, the argument that these music trailer producing companies make that their product needs to be "rare" in order to be effective is proven completely wrong by "E.S. Posthumous". Now, I have no idea how many cd's "E.S." have sold to the mass public, but I would think that it's at least 50-100K copies (it could be far more than this but I would guess that it's not less). Many of their songs off of their first album (I'm not really a big fan of "Cartographer") have appeared as trailer music and even part of the opening credits on tv shows. I would imagine that this has boosted their sales tremendously and making this music available to the public just creates that cycle of rampant consumer-driven need that every single capitalist wants to tap into. So why aren't companies like Immediate Music, TSFH, XRD, Pfiefer Broz and the like following the same model? It's beyond me. But their argument of exclusivity is rendered moot IMO because of what "E.S." has done.

I think what's also apparent from the limited number of people that are directly exposed to this type of music via music only sources (although there may be far more who like this kind of music, it takes a certain type of someone to find out what music is attached to what trailer, discover that it's an exclusive "big studio" only product, and then slog through loads of torrent, download, filesharing sites to even get a decent copy of any of this "exclusive" trailer music stuff) is that if these trailer music companies were to make their music available to the "public" via CD (at a princely cost... I really don't think that $40-50 per limited edition CD and far more for double or triple album releases, is unrealistic) it could be nothing but a benefit. Even if they create a minor market, it certainly won't ruin their exclusivity as the sheer number of people who are only ever exposed to their product are those that plunk their butts into theater seats. All I can see is a missed opportunity here and it feels like these trailer music companies just can't see the forest through the proverbial trees.

Awareman

So why do they want this music into the trailers, because the music is supposed to give a feeling to add to the images, that this is something you must go and see. So, they add great music to push people to go watch. So, what did I say? GREAT music that push people to go watch!
If they love it enough to go watch the movie, then it proves they love the music and that people would go buy the CD's as well ...

+ I remember some big movies using music that has been already used a lot of time!

Only production music, yes, but for me it feels like casting perls before swine!

This music is so great, albums like Nemesis are really ART and very beautiful, what a waste of great music, talent, work, etc. I really pity all the artists who work for trailer music. They put so much into it, only for the film industry to edit bits and pieces into their trailers, not for any real audience to enjoy it.

Come on, every artist WANTS his works to be enjoyed, I simply don't believe otherwise!

But I know how the film industry thinks, they have no regard for art or beauty, just for MONEY and they fear they won't earn enough if their trailer music is known outside of their trailers. So I understand companies like TSFH must keep it rare, or the film industry won't buy it.

It's this system that sucks, I don't blame the companies because they won't sell their music if it wasn't rare. I would gladly pay 100 bucks for a TSFH album to get it legally, and I am sure I'm not the only one here. But many people I know cannot understand why I like trailer music, so it's just the taste of a small group of people. Even if anyone here would buy albums for 100 bucks, it would still not be enough for the production companies to be worth it.

In the end, it is a complicated matter, but one that makes me personally sad... Damn, I WANT THIS STUFF!!! LEGALLY!! I WANT TO PAY FOR IT!!!

So my only hope is that maybe in ten or so years the film industry won't care any longer because it got old and then someone will release it. I'm pretty sure I'll still love Nemesis in ten years, because it is a timeless piece of ART, not something for the film industry to rip apart for their trailers to earn money!

I never thought about that. Does anyone have any real numbers of how much music they licenced before and after making their CDs available to the public? Did they licence music to MAJOR film studios or just to small ones that couldn't afford TSFH&co anyway?

Even if music could still be used if it wasn't rare (what I really believe), I think many film companies still wouldn't do it, because they think they have to be exclusive. Even if people would be drawn to a movie because it uses trailer music from their favorite CD this still would be no good arguement, because the film industry isn't that logic. Damn, we talk about the same guys here who spend piles and piles and piles of money for each new, absolutely unbreakable copy protection, only to have it rendered useless by a new cracking tool a few months (if not days) later.

kmb & vryc, I totally agree with you!
I was just pointing out some of the logic behind how the studios think. I don't agree with the point of view but understand why it's the best option for them and respect that.
"ES Posthumus" is the exception to the rule proving you can sell to general audiences as well as licence to distributors. However, their first cd "unearthed" was never intended to be trailer music to begin with, they made something that they felt was rich and evocative and the hollywood took notice of that & exploited it. Their intention was never to make a catalogue of trailer tunes, like all the other companies do, but simply make a great sounding cd for everyone to enjoy. And it is a true piece of art :) Like nemesis or serenate or so many, many others.

I agree that something about this thread should be changed. It is ok to talk about the music but no more requests. The reasons have been repeated over and over.

Everyone who is interested in the whole case about trailer music and the problems with public releases should take the time to read through the 90 pages, especially the posts by Vanton, a member of Immediate Music.

vanton’s posts:
http://forums.ffshrine.org/search.php?searchid=1754732

There is also a post by Thomas J. Bergersen, the co-founder of Two Steps From Hell:
http://forums.ffshrine.org/showthread.php?p=956506#post956506

Trailer music companys say they can’t release their music for public because it’s not cost-effective with the little fanbase. They can’t afford to lose the “rareness” of their music by selling it for everyone. Otherwise they might be no longer attractive for the movie companys who want to get maximum profit by using rare music for their advertising (which is silly indeed).

To change this the trailer music would have to be known by more people to get more potential buyers, but this can hardly happen as the trailer music isn’t available for public.
Still I don’t understand why they can’t release older stuff that has already been used in many trailers.

It’s like a vicious circle, but such music can’t hide forever from a larger community. It’s up to the fans to enlarge their community.

The question is when will it be large enough?

There are differences between every company. Very few have already released trailer music but for most of them this apparently doesn’t seem to be considered:

We would not break even if we released our music and sold a million copies (believe me), the only way we work is for licensing to trailers and commercials - we couldn't survive in the current music industry.

As for me a lot of trailer music belongs to the best music I’ve ever listened to.
And I don’t think 20-second appearances in movie trailers or commercials can satisfy such brilliant art.

Just to keep this discussion going ad naseum :naughty:

I still find this argument of "rarity breeds desire" in the studio mentality somehow false. If you actually really listen to this stuff, this was all plotted out (chordal changes, orchestral arrangements, the propensity to use western-based 4-bar - whether in 4/4, 5/4, or 7/8 amongst a host of other sigs - octaved choir with 1st violins, somewhat leading counterpoint stuctures... blah, blah, blah...) years ago by then pioneers Zimmer, Powell, and their ilk. Baldt, Bates (although he did do an interesting throwback score for "Doomsday" which I've got to give him props for) and the like are just jumping off ideas; and it's really not that far a leap from the "early masters". None of these present-day masters of the limited 2min trailer music hold a candle to Maurice Jarre, Williams, even Silverstri on a good day (his recent scores have been trodding in the mediocrity that exemplifies today's scores in which bomabast and bomblast play such a huge part). I would completely blame joe sixpack for this current trend.

Now, this rant is not to say that I don't appreciate "trailer music" filled with it's ho-hum chord changes, but this stuff is not high artistry. Williams was able to put more orchestral intrigue into his two-note powerhouse in Jaws than is on display in the in the entire catalogues of TSFH, Pfeifer Broz, XRD...

To wrap up, I do recognize the need for this barrage-based assault of choir stabs, big drums, scaling orchestras... but to say that this stuff is creating unique and therefore highly desireable moments of music seems off. This stuff is a dime-a-dozen stuff as witnessed by the immense list of companies that cater specifically to this type of trailer music. Sure the hair stands up on the back of one's neck when listening to this stuff, but lets not be fooled by its complexity or the argument that states it as such in order to sell us on the line that it must remain "rare" to induce large studio purchasing.

eventually movie studios wont even need trailer music, cuz movie composers are spouting out like pesty weeds. They could just use tracks by the composer. Like in the Dark Knight trailer, it adds a kind of unity and soul when the score is mostly used in the trailers.

I find as I said earlier the argument of "rare music" silly. I am sure that 80% of your stuff will never be used anywhere ... most of your stuff is even cut, only +/-30% of a single track is published on trailers, and even modified. What a lost of art ... then as someone said, just publish what has been already used, older stuff ....

This is unique and art and the best music I've ever heard and we would just go and say: "fine, we won't listen to it ...". It can't be!

I think he meant open sharing with posting links in forums. He kind of admitted that he is glad that there are people who enjoy his music, but of course he cannot say directly "Share with your friends in private, I am happy that you like my music".

It's like I said before: Artists want their stuff to be enjoyed by an audiance, but at the same time they must keep it rare to survive. This is why they must make sure no links are available to the public. Strange situation indeed!

And this is how our problems start, because you have to know people who have an album to be able to get it. As a result, Pathogen, Dreams and Imaginations and upcoming stuff like Nemesis 2 are basically unavailable for us, because who knows anyone who has it? I don't, and I think nobody here has these albums.

About the "art" discussion: Somebody said that trailer music is not art because it is produced mainly for effect. I think there are two ways to measure the quality of music: As a music scientist this might be true, TSFH&co might just be "Wagner gone pop" without any true depth, style over substance, l'art pour l'art, etc. But the quality of music can also be measured by how it affects people, and in this field, TSFH simply rules! I am not a music scientist and I don't want to be one, I don't want to analyse, I want to enjoy and feel music! So for me, there is nothing wrong with it, and I also deem it art if somebody can create music that has such an effect!

Awareman
03-27-2008, 12:06 PM
"music scientist" I feel that is silly.
What is good in music is when you enjoy it, feel it ... what else is needed?
Music is good when it allows you to feel emotions, when you feel motivated to create. This music helps me to create my own stuff, it create creative emotions in me and when I listen to that, then I get inspired!

So, doing it in private, good lol.
Who wnats to share his stuff with me? I have a few stuffs :-)
Come on, I wait your private messages :-D

Also, this music helps me to get my inspiration for my own work, so forbidding me to listen to my source of inspiration WILL have an impact on my own work!

Since some months I was listening to the same stuff again and again, so I need and was looking for some fresh stuff to re-motivate me ... I thought there were only a few stuff ... but when I went here, wow! There's so much! What a shame to stop people to listen that!

And one more thing, is that when a movie trailer has a music I love, it even motivate me more to go watch the movie.
There's no lost of money with me, they won't loose money because as I said and because they don't sell them so they WON'T LOST MONEY in my case.

Fortunatly everyone can decide on his own what music you like and what music you personally consider to be better than other.
Finally, as mentioned above, the most important fact about music is how it affects people.
Trailer music does affect peoples emotions, motivations and inspirations and for some people more than any other music. This DOES make this music unique and desirable.

Williams was able to put more orchestral intrigue into his two-note powerhouse in Jaws than is on display in the in the entire catalogues of TSFH, Pfeifer Broz, XRD...

I can’t agree with such a comment. Without question those “early masters”all produced excellent scores but they ARE different from the actual “trailer/production music” and therefore both shouldn’t be compared too much with each other.
Something like “Williams put more orchestral intrugue into his two-note powerhouse in Jaws”sounds absurd for me. Personally I would never state this as higher artistry than IM,XRD,TSFH etc. The are just different. I would rather consider scores like Jaws as a bit bland or uninspiring, though another person might have a completly different opinion about that.

vryc
03-27-2008, 05:38 PM
Perhaps take a look at the orchestral tenuations and the way that Williams bends and twists that two-note theme - something we don't see often if ever in trailer music, and for good reason... you've only got so much time to "grab" the listener. Of course, these two types of music are different, they've got different goals. But I would put Williams against any one of these guys as far as sheer orchestral talent.

Again, I do appreciate this type of music. But to call it unique, which qualifies it as "rare", which allows for the rediculous argument of exclusivity seems false to me. There's very little on display in this trailer music (with the odd piece as an exception) that separates one from the other. I guess, I just don't buy the argument put forth by these trailer music guys of limiting the product in order to achieve maximum gain; there are examples of this working in other examples of capitalism, but it just rings hollow in this particular instance.

The simple answer is what it says on our tin

MUSIC FOR MOTION PICTURE ADVERTISING

It has nothing to do with being exclusive or elitist and you are right - acquiring our music illegally does not help the cause.

vanton
03-28-2008, 08:43 PM

Go to iTunes and search for GLOBUS - its our commercial offering... enjoy

Do you seriously think that you can just come in here and start requesting it up? No! Get to know some people, join in some groups of uploaders, contribute yourself. You can't just come in and expect people to immediately upload exactly what you want. BE PATIENT. Over the last 3 months I've amassed a large collection myself (although I'm missing quite a few artists). The problem is these elitist forums result in the albums (such as Full Tilt Volume 3) in the hands of a few and honestly thats contrary to what this forum as well as other forums which are now silenced used to be.......of course that wouldn't be the case if the links lasted more than 5 minutes

Its not really that hard. If someone starts a conversation, just join in, post your thoughts on it. Let people get to know you, just like Awareman did. He joined and immediately started a conversation with everyone. He, after 15 posts, has already become a key member and someone to trust, rather than people who just come in and REQUEST, REQUEST, REQUEST, with no introduction or anything. Do just like mikeyai said - contribute. If someone who has been here for a while is in need of a song, and you have it, upload it for him/her. If you dont have a collection, then just contribute your ideas as i said before.

Just give a little time for people to get to know you and then we will see... :D

Don't worry, its not illegal or forbidden to post here, it's the official website. And better even, there is MORE THAN 50 MINUTES OF TSFH music, even full songs! And with a proper firefox extension, songs can even be saved to disk.

Well, maybe many of you already know this page, but I didn't and just stumpled on it, so I wanted to share with all the others who don't know this website already. ENJOY!!!

Okay, as I am tired of answering all the PMs about it, here the instructions in public:

This is the tool you need:

http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Install it and restart firefox. Go to the website. Play the song you want to download. Download helper icon will become animated, showing there is something to grab from memory cache.

When the song is playing and fully buffered, click the icon, select the proper file from pull down menu and save it to disk as any other file.

This extension works with many other sites and other media, if something is in your PC's firefox memory, you can grab and save it. Great tool! I hope it works as fine with windows as it does with Linux.

You are absolutely correct. This program just does the same, but it's quicker and more convenient, because you get proper file names and you don't have to rename and to move files. But of course the files can also be found in temp files folders, but there you have to dig them up, test them out, rename and move. With this extension, it's just one click.

It's a big fish eat little fish world. If the little fish doesn't get to eat, how will it be able to grow to the right size so it can hang with the big boys? How can you invest in a business without beginning capital? Sometimes, a little generosity and compassion goes a long way.

That was a nice Zelda trailer. I really wished it would have been an upcoming movie but I doubt Nintendo would want to put one of their classic game's reputation at risk just to satisfy some Hollywood producer's desire to make quick cash. There have been too many video games turned movies that have flopped in the past. Streetfighter, Doom, Aliens vs. Predator are a fewthat come to mind. However, I heard Nintendo is interested in making a Metroid movie though so that could be start.

That worked well in the games, but on the big screen with live actors it's just ridiculous! Come on, who can take a hero with such a stupid hat seriously... I laughed my ass off when I saw that! anyone have "evil island"

That's a statement. It's not a question. I'm pretty sure someone will have it, somewhere in the world, so your statment is correct (at least semantically).
Thanks for giving us this great info!

edit:
Okay, so you added a question mark. But that doesn't make it any better. You did not even say what you are looking for: Is it a group? An album? A song? If it is a song, you should say by WHOM, that would make it easier to search for it, if anyone intends to do so... But I seriously doubt that. Because you didn't read the last pages about people who come here to request, request, request but never contribute anything. If I look at your post history, you've never contributed, and by that I don't mean uploading... Get to know people and join in discussions before you start requesting here!

I searched for Parodifair and this page is the result. Do you have the song Revelations by Parodifair? If so, can u post or send it to me? I've been searching for it 24/7 cause I need it for a school play that I'm going to be in real soon. As a matter of fact, it's my homework to get it so I'd appreciate it if I can get it or know where to get it. Please reply to this ASAP. Thanks a million.

If you need it for a school play, you should contact them directly at:

http://www.parodifair.com/biography/index.html

at the bottom of the website there is an email address. Some companies allow limited use of their songs in school plays (I've read TSFH does) so you should ask the producers directly. A school play is something public, you should not use any unlicenced song you got by illegal means for that! There might be lawyers in your audience... As producers often want to support schools, you should really give it a try and ask them.

Hey kmb, always here :D

So many stupid questions/requests...

So phenomangel, your teachers asked you to find a track like this, without giving you any advice like where to search, or any contact with the compagny ? Nice try, but lying is way worse than requesting like the others...

Hmm tomorrow we will have someone who pretend to be a movie producer, searching for some tsfh albums because he loose his login/pwd on their site...

According to my sources I heard that Immediate Music TFOAC3 has been dispatched to production companies although it's not on their website. Some tracks are already licensed for big trailer advertisement campaigns.

Immediate Music will release an album called 'TrailerHead' in the near future that will contain original trailer music from the TFOAC series. Also songs from their new TFOAC album will be on it.

The release date is unknown but there is a new website under construction announcing more details...
Nothing is officially confirmed. It's just what I heard and read...

i stated the part about TFOAC3 a while ago, but this trailerhead stuff is news to me. I can confirm the part about the TFOAC3 album, as a matter of a fact I have part of the tracklist from this album, besides that of the promo.

Immediate Music's older material is found everywhere on the net, so they did the wise thing and send their material straight to production companies, who have been very good at keeping it fromt he public.

Though I must say, IM have decided to add more electrical sound to a lot of the tracks and it sounds impressive. Overall I hope it stays hidden for a long time to come, because that way they can generate more income for themselves and are far more likely to produce an album a lot sooner.

Well I asked her if she can get the song herself because she's making it harder for us to get it for her. She did say she'll try, but I can understand everyone's frusturation because I am too. It's a very hard song to find, yet, very popular. But a lot of popular music gets on the net. I guess Revelations is an exception unfortunately. Thanks for your help though.

I am personally looking for the soundtrack to the SNES version of the Bram Stoker's Dracula game, a song from TNA (a wrestling company) and a WCW theme. The TNA song I am looking for is Sting's current theme. He was in WCW but is now in TNA. His most recent & current theme can be hard on their Bound For Glory 2007 ppv as well as every tv or ppv appearence he's made since his return on the Live edition of TNA Impact which I believe aired on 3/27/08. The WCW theme is rare. It's the theme song for WCW's The Ding Dongs team. Quality and length of the song doesn't matter since it's rare. If anyone knows where I can find these, please let me know. Thank you.

The difference is that anime and/or gamesoundtracks are are part of a specific finished product that you can buy in the shop. If you like the game, you can buy the music or rip it from the game itself if it's not available.
Trailer music is production music made for promotional purposes and still provides income for the company after the cue has been licenced for a specific trailer.

You need ? So you'r a movies producer. So contact TSFH and licence all the album.
You don't need this album, you want it, it's different.
Besides, asking 3 times (on a board where you can't ask for TSFH) won't lead you anywere. No one will give you what you "need".

You seek for calming music ? Dreams & Immagination is not the only calming album, there is many relaxing music that you can buy.

hello everyone

does somebody has dreams and imaginations

ive been looking for a very long time

i would give my soul for it but i wont because than i cant listen to it anymore.

Well, first of all, that's not true! When you sell your soul you'll lose it AFTER DEATH, not instantly- there would be no sense in trading souls otherwise.

Second, I'm neither the devil nor do I have this album.

Third, even if I had, I most likely would NOT give it to you because you broke the RULE OF NOT ASKING IN PUBLIC THREE TIMES NOW, worse even, you broke it KNOWINGLY as you admitted in one of your posts! What were you thinking??? "There is a rule but it's just for everyone else and not for me"? Or: "damn, I don't give a rat's ass if this board is closed down, it's not my board and if I got what I wanted I don't care about others"?

WE DON'T NEED PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT WAY HERE!!! If you want to be here and get stuff, get to know people, talk to them and contribute to the board. Then, when people know you and you have been a member of this community for some time, you can ask people IN PRIVATE for sharing...

Besides, I don't think anyone here has what you're looking for. I don't have this album nor have the people I talked to. TSFH watermarks their music so a producer would be outright stupid or looking for a lawsuit if he allowed his album to leak into the internet. So it needs time, maybe a pissed off employee who wants to harm the company or something, I don't know. AFAIK, D&I is impossible to find at the moment... (if anyone knows better, PM me :naughty:)

Come on, everyone knows you can never have too many souls. And besides there is no rule (at least none that i know of) that states that the dying process cant be accelerated...

Ok, so we are talking about SOULS now. Well, as Aristotle explains in his Nicomachean Ethics, there are three parts to a soul; they are Passions, Faculties and States of Character. Also, every human activity aims at some "end" (some purpose). We realise later on after deep study that the end, also known as the "good", is happiness.

Going back to the three parts of the soul, after another deep analysis, States of Character is the only quality that is relevant to vice and virtue. States of Character is the what allows us to make a decision. IE - that guys decision to sell his soul in exchange for "calm" music which will make him happy which will give him virtue and his chief "good".

Also, dying can be accelerated. That really has nothing to do with Philosophy tho.

Im not saying that he should get the music, just that he is able to sell his soul, according to Aristotle, and maybe Plato.

Ill show myself out...

Yea, but the thing with Faust is that Johann was a writer, and not Philosopher. Although his writings do contain hints of philosophy, he doesn't really talk about the soul too much in Faust, except when Faust sells his soul. Faust is like a really wierd love story. I like it, but its wierd.

I was speaking of the soul in a Philisophical point of view. Aristotles point of view to be precise, since Aristotle is like a writer, philosopher, mathematician and Greek.

So, I would go with Aristotles view since he talks about it in depth. Johann is still an excellent writer and you can go with his view. But i hardly doubt that Mephisto will take that guys soul for Dreams and Imaginations. BUT imagine if that guy had a poodle?

Hey everybody, it's me again O:] =)

I was wondering it anyone knew what songs are being played in the PotC-3 trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PetrAmq9fcw

On the X-Ray Dog website, it shows this trailer as well, but they say it's called "Secret Remix". And I have heared these songs before, I just don't know what they are called. Can anybody help me???

O, and one other thing:

I'd really like to know if anyone knew the names of the song(s) played in this trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnpndnYcywE, from 00:50 to 01:35.Thanks in advance.

All the songs in this trailer are from Epic Score - Action & Adventure 1,2,3

Licenturion, you once said a while back that ALL these song played are from the "Epic Score - Action and Adventure 1,2 & 3" albums, but isn't the song played from 00:55 'till 01:35 "Rampage" by James Dooley (from the Position Music - Orchestral Series Vol. 2 album)???

Anyway, thanks in advance! :-D

I read the play a long time ago but, to my knowledge, this guy had a poople (i think it was a stray), and it turned into a Devil, in which the guy sold his soul for his desires. I learn't it in Literature a couple of years. I might be a bit off, but thats the general point.

For the people who were screaming for a commercial releases of trailer music check out the new 'Corner Stone Cues: Eton Path' that was recently released on iTunes. Check it out here (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=273200683&s=143441)

There are some great tracks on the album. Espcially track 13 and 25. The mixing is absolutly great, much better than some of the bigger companies.

Definitely not! From Wikipedia we can learn the following:

"The name "Faust" has come to stand for a charlatan alchemist (some claim "astrologer and necromancer") whose pride and vanity lead to his doom. Similarly, the adjective "Faustian" has come to denote acts or constellations involving human hubris which lead eventually to Nemesis."

So, if you do it like Faust, you can only get NEMESIS, but not DREAMS & IMAGINATIONS!

Would someone mind clearing up a misconception I may have? Now what restrictions are placed on mp3s that are purchased, cuz it seems to me that you're renting them not buying them. Am I wrong in this?

Macksis,

iTunes has been selling unlocked stuff for a little while now. Eton Path is 256kbps AAC, and it works in other players than iTunes. I haven't had any problems with the quality of the files (you may have a more refined ear though). So in this case, as long as you back-up the files, you are buying the album, not renting it.

Is there actually a way to see if a track on iTunes has DRM or not? I'd rather buy the four "Corner Stone Cue"-albums from Amazon.com (they're definitely DRM-free AND a lot cheaper than iTunes), but unfortunately their MP3-store isn't working for international customers.

I think if there is a plus sign, it means it's DRM free. It's part of their new iTunes Plus thing? Double the quality (256kbps), no DRM?

Don't quote me on any of that though. Just a guess.

Alastor2588

I wasn't really sure if it would be DRM-free or not. I normally wouldn't use iTunes, but someone had gotten me a gift card and I figured buying some trailer music would be a good use of it. I tried to quickly find a FAQ that specifically says how to tell if something is DRM-free or not, but couldn't find anything. I opened up iTunes though, and as chrismm42 thought, the Eton Path album had pluses next to the prices. So I checked around and found that more popular stuff did not. So he's probably right (I'm sure someone here can definitively confirm it).

It doesn't matter if the MP3/AAC has DRM. Burn the files in the same quality to a CD. Rip the CD. DRM removed. I always do that if I buy protected music.

Anyway, everybody in the business has finally started to see that most customers hate or fear DRM so many big record companies haven been dropping this.

That's a hassle that you shouldn't have to deal with as a paying customer though. If you buy something, you should be able to use it how you want to use it, without having to first degrade the quality. Thankfully, as you said, DRM does appear to slowly be going away.

Actually, it DOES matter, e.g. for Linux users like me. I don't have Windows (and I don't want it!) so I cannot get any DRM licence. Thus, if I bought these files, they would be useless to me as I couldn't even decode them once to burn a CD.

I am not going to change my OS to a less secure and less power-user friendly one just for some stupid copy protection!!!

... on the other hand, you ARE right and it doesn't matter - as iTunes doesn't work on Linux systems anyway!

Welcome to the board! To answer your questions: The public area of this board is for discussion only, or you can post legal links like links to official websites with sample songs. If you made more posts (about 8 to 10 I think) you can send private messages to other users. To do so, click on the user's name and click "send private message" from the pull down menu. Private messages are used for trading, but it's better to get to know people first. This can be done by contributing to discussions.

This board started out as a board for download links, but we had to change it because public links got deleted within hours or even minutes and some producers (IM and TSFH) joined the discussions and asked us personally not to share their stuff publically. As these producers have been very fair, kind of even acknowledging us as fans who just want to listen to the music but not harm the companies, without insulting or threatening us in general, we have agreed to comply.

Thanks for defending me, but I have to admit it was me who started it by somehow suggesting he should better request a brain. BTW: his reaction and his usage of the word "douchebag" (with all its nice implications listed in the Urban Dictionary) only shows how angry I made him with my sarcastic reply. He even had to resort to standard-how-to-hurt-a-nerd-insult number one ("You don't have a girlfriend and want one desperately!"). It's an "into the blue" insult that often works and can really hurt if used against the right person. Unfortunately for him, I have been engaged for over 10 years and still live in a happy relationship, so his vile attempt was in vain, except for showing everyone how hurt he was by my comment that he had to resort to such unfair means to shut someone up.

So conradstudios, I hereby sincerely apologize to you for hurting your feelings that much, it wasn't my intention to really upset you! I just wanted to make a funny remark, I couldn't know you really lack intelligence and suffer from it!

so if i put 10 links like this

i can ask you for trading things.

NOOOO, that's spamming!! You have to make POSTS, not LINKS, and your posts should be meaningful! Join into discussions and take your time! If you just post "hello I want the right to PM" ten times in a row, this would also work, but then nobody will trade with you because you annoyed everyone. Rome wasn't built in a day and the same is true for a trailer music collection. Be patient...

Hi! I have a question about Trailer Music... I was searching in wikipedia but i found nothing. What about the history of this type of music ? What's the first compagny, etc... I'm just curious! :)

Pay attention kiddies, this is a perfect example of what NOT to do. All links are required to have a minimum usefulness of 80%.
