Yea, that's another one down. One more to go.

Meltigemini
05-10-2008, 01:17 PM
I know this is true in some other games, but I can't remember if it is in FF8. Here goes anyway...

If someone (enemy or ally) casts Drain on a zombied character, the character casting the spell takes damage and the zombie is healed. This would make it a positive. ;)

Noobinabox
05-10-2008, 02:18 PM
I considered that too, but I also considered it as a detriment for whatever casted the drain rather than the one who was inflicted with zombie.

If you have ever taken chemistry, this comparison might work:
I'm only counting the benefits and detriments of the system, not the surroundings.

Physical attacks are weakened if you're under the Zombie status.

One-hit KO when using Phoenix Downs, the Recover/Revive abilities, etc on an enemy who's under the Zombie status.

Other posters have already mentioned that cure has the opposite effect. And, I've categorized all of the Cure magic/items/commands under one detriment.

Though, your first statement comes close to a correct answer.

Alright, sorry for the delay, was trying to think of a challenge and got distracted and then almost forgot about this.

I still can't really... well, alright. Another OST question: Name all SIX places where "Find Your Way" is played. Half should be obvious...

Meltigemini
05-21-2008, 12:45 AM
Fire Cavern
Tomb of the Unknown King
Centra Ruins
Second Laguna sequence (Lunatic Pandora)
Shumi Village entrance
Can't think of the last...

Yep those are all correct, one more... it is rather tricky.

IDX

It's the name of a song. OST means Official SoundTrack

Agent0042

For some reason I'm thinking another of the Laguna sequences -- perhaps in the one where Laguna fights the Ruby Dragon, just after the part where Laguna has to fight it solo, if you go to get geared up.

Zak
05-21-2008, 06:01 AM
Agent - that's a REALLY close guess, but not quite. Both the Slideshow tracks play.

Meltigemini
05-21-2008, 11:10 PM
Ah, I think I remember now. You can actually revisit the canyon where that Laguna sequence happened, doesn't it play there?

There's nothing to see there at all by the way, if you never went there. :p

Noobinabox
05-21-2008, 11:22 PM
Yea, it's called Trabia Canyon

Zak
05-22-2008, 01:42 AM
Yep, Melti, you got it! You have to go there as Squall, and it plays there. Of course, it serves no purpose and is much forgotten anyway.

I guess since you got all six it's only fair to give you the next question.

Noobinabox
05-22-2008, 01:44 AM
Whew, that was relatively painless.

Meltigemini
05-24-2008, 12:31 AM
Alright...

I can't really think of anything too challenging at the moment, so this is probably really easy:

Name all magic spells which can only be drawn from one enemy in the game, and the enemy they are drawn from. Also, name all enemies which can use those particular spells in battle.

Noobinabox
05-24-2008, 02:01 AM
Alright, I'll take this one.

Apocalypse can be drawn from the lower portion of Ultimecia's final form.

Apocalypse can only be used by Ultimecia's final form.

Agent0042
05-24-2008, 02:07 AM
I'm going to go with Aura -- I seem to recall that it can only be drawn from Seifer, and I don't believe there's any enemy that can use it.

Noobinabox
05-24-2008, 04:05 AM
A prison guard at the desert prison uses it when Squall and friends are trying to escape.

I'm not sure if I misread the trivia, but I believe that its a really optional question. As in, there are many correct answers?

Zak
05-24-2008, 03:16 PM
Does this count bosses?

Meltigemini
05-24-2008, 11:04 PM
Sorry if it wasn't clear, I did mean for it all to be answered, as I thought the first part was pretty easy. Apocalypse and Aura are both correct, and yes, there is a prison guard that uses Aura. Those are the only two magics, but there is still another enemy that can use one of those which hasn't been said (includes bosses and non-bosses here).

Noobinabox
05-25-2008, 12:46 AM
Then, I'm thinking Aura is used by another enemy because Apocalypse doesn't really appear until the end of the game. Wonder which enemy that is...

Agent0042

Grendel?

UnlimitedBladeWorks
05-25-2008, 04:28 AM
What about Ultima for Ultima Weapon?

Noobinabox
05-25-2008, 05:59 AM
I think there are a few enemies that will use Ultima as a final desperation move. Anyway, we're searching for only 1 more monster/boss that uses Aura or Apocalypse (probably Aura).

Zak
05-25-2008, 06:13 AM
Raijin is the other enemy that uses Aura, I'll add that much for now.

EDIT: Or is that all that's left? Hah.

Meltigemini
05-26-2008, 12:14 PM
Yep, Raijin was the last one. Ultima can be drawn from both Ultima and Omega Weapon, so that didn't count as an answer.

Seems like a few people chipped in here but it looks like Noobinabox had the most right answers so.. away you go :p

Noobinabox
05-26-2008, 02:00 PM
Zantetsuken, Rapture, and Degenerator (collectively) will fail against boss-class foes and 9 other enemies in the game.

What are the 9 other enemies that Zantetsuken, Rapture, and Degenerator will fail against?

Zak
05-26-2008, 02:37 PM
They actually work on the Propagators...

Anyway, I'm assuming most are undead enemies? In that case, Vysage and Forbidden, for one... and Righty and Lefty, do you count those seperately?

Meltigemini
05-26-2008, 09:43 PM
I know that Degenerator doesn't work against Grats, for some reason. :p

Noobinabox
05-26-2008, 10:14 PM
Yes, anything that can be separately scanned counts as a different enemy.

Vysage, Lefty, Righty, and Grats are all correct.

Gerogero?

Noobinabox
05-26-2008, 10:23 PM
There are definitely more than 9 bosses in the game that are immune to Rapture, Zantetsuken, and Degenerator...

Also, let me clarify what a Boss-class foe is:
A foe for which the screen does a funny "in-and-out" animation as opposed to the normal "washed-out" entrance.

Zak
05-26-2008, 10:43 PM
Wait, so they work on Forbidden? Are you sure? I thought Forbidden is undead.

Noobinabox
05-26-2008, 10:51 PM
I'm pretty sure that rapture will work on forbidden, let me check my guide.

BradyGames guide says that Forbidden has an 80% chance to be "blown away"

Zak
05-26-2008, 10:53 PM
Oh, of course... it doesn't work on Tonberries!

Tonberry King is boss class though, correct? If not, I guess that's one...

EDIT: What about the Slappers?

Noobinabox
05-26-2008, 10:59 PM
Ok, granted, Tonberry King is a boss-class foe. Bad clarification on my part.

Slappers isn't one of them. Tonberrys is another correct one.

Zak
05-27-2008, 12:41 AM

Noobinabox

Blood Souls perhaps...? They are undead, after all. Though I feel like I might have Raptured them once, not sure.

Meltigemini
05-27-2008, 11:57 PM
I don't think undeads are specifically immune to Rapture, just The End.

I seem to remember Rapture doesn't work on Adamantoises now, for some reason, am I imagining that? Also, this one is a complete guess, but does Rapture not work on a Fastitocalon (or Fastitocalon-F) that is still under the sand?

Noobinabox
05-28-2008, 12:21 AM
Heh, nope. I'll throw out a hint:

Two of the remaining "enemies" are enemies that any skill-level player can defeat. These enemies do not attack you. These two enemies are also related...very closely. They are not a main part of the storyline (i.e. found in a sidequest).

The third enemy becomes an ally (of sorts) after a point in the game (meaning that the enemy was once a foe, but later is not).

Meltigemini
05-28-2008, 12:34 AM
Of course, PuPu and the UFO. :p

I can't think for the last one though. :/

Zak
05-28-2008, 01:00 AM
Damn, I was gonna say PuPu and the UFO. Anyway for the last one, I don't know if this is considered boss class but how about Rinoa, when you're fighting Adel? She's a target so she's an "enemy", and catch this. "The End" only kills Adel and not her!

Noobinabox
05-28-2008, 01:06 AM
PuPu and UFO are correct. 1 more.

Zak
05-28-2008, 11:17 PM

The "Sorceresses" in the Time Compressed world? They aren't really bosses (except for the last big one)...

Noobinabox
05-29-2008, 05:19 AM
Nope, I'm pretty sure that they are categorized as Boss-class in Brady Games. And, it doesn't fit in with my hint.

EDIT: I just saw your Rinoa post, and it's not correct either. I'm pretty sure she is also classified as "boss-class." Also, the "foe-to-friend" transition isn't a "friend-to-foe-and-back-to-friend" transition.

As an additional hint, this enemy appears in a random encounter at some point in the game.

Zak

I was actually looking in the Brady Games guide myself which I have, and it has the Sorceresses not as bosses... hmm, alright then. But it's not Tonberry King you say?
In that case it's not any of the GFs because that's the only one that you randomly encounter rather than have a fixed encounter like with Cactuar, and... as for the fake ones, let's see, you don't encounter MiniMog, you don't encounter any kind of Chocobo in battle in FF8, and you don't see Moombas battle. None of the people in this game ever pull a Yuffie, either. Odin is a set boss, and you don't fight Gilgamesh. Oh, and you never fight Phoenix either.
Angelo is an ally too, but he doesn't fight for the other team ever either.

So I take it this thing you're looking for doesn't appear on a card?

Zak
05-29-2008, 04:23 PM

Zak
05-29-2008, 08:39 PM
Dude, I just skimmed the whole Bestiary in the BradyGames guide, and everything that's not a card either has been guessed or is part of a boss fight, like the NORG pods or the Dromas. Other than that it's just the Sorceresses, Adel, the soldiers... none of them become allies anyway.

I'd guess the Raldo, but the guide says it can be blown away.

Maybe GIM52A? It's not a card (GIM47N is) and unlike 47N it has a Blue Magic so maybe that's what you mean by ally... bah. It could probably also be blown away.

Either you missed something, or the guide missed something, or the guide lied about whether something works. But the guide even lists the UFO which you can't even attack!

All right, I Googled the answer and apparently it's "E-Soldier (cyborg)." I hope nobody will mind too much me calling bull, because there is no enemy in the game actually called "E-Soldier" that I know of. The only Interne references I can find it to it are this question (which was pulled verbatim from an FAQ.) I think everybody got everything that can really be come up with, and Zak even said "or kind of soldier," which seems to me to be good enough. I don't see how anybody else would have really come up with anything further, especially after the answer about it being "some sort of soldier" being shot down. I think it's time we moved on.

(Oh, and I really don't get the whole "enemy turned ally" thing either, although I suppose maybe it's meant to refer to the Estharians becoming your allies.)

Noobinabox

Esthar's soldiers are Laguna's enemies when Laguna works as a soldier for Galbadia (seen especially in dream sequence 2). They later work under Laguna after he overthrows Adel...making them his allies.

And, I never officially "shot down" Zak's guess.

Esthar soldier (cyborg) is an opponent in Brady Game's Bestiary guide.

I'd like to see if Zak could have the next trivia because he seems to have put the most sweat into finding this one. Agent?

Edit: All within one minute...haha.

Agent0042
05-30-2008, 02:03 AM
I don't have any problem with it if nobody else does.

And I know that you didn't "shoot it down," but you didn't specifically indicate that there was anything right about either, which would I figured would tend to direct people away from the idea that it was a soldier.

Zak
05-30-2008, 03:00 AM
The guide says the Esthar cyborg soldiers can be killed with Rapture, maybe that's a mistake but still... how are they "allies" later?

Okay, let's aim for a challenge here... the only other ones I can think of are a couple of OST questions I have in mind, but since I did two already I'll save them for another time. So this will probably be easy.

Okay, um... as far as "doing everything possible" goes, what's the most about of Blue Magic Quistis can have before going to the fire cavern? Which ones are they... or which ones aren't they? (list whichever is less).

EDIT: Added to the question, tell HOW you go about getting them whether they're from a mug, a drop, or a card, or something else... and WHICH monster/card.

Agent0042

Agent0042

Agent0042
05-30-2008, 03:28 AM
All right, back again. I guess I'll start with the ones I'm pretty sure of:

+Ultra Waves
+Homing Laser
+Aqua Breath
+Fire Breath

-Ray Bomb
-Shockwave Pulsar
-Mighty Guard
-Degenerator

Those are the ones I'm pretty sure of (though not entirely certain) are and aren't right. I'll add Electrocute and Acid to the list of ones that can be learned. I'll surrender if somebody else can do better within 24 hours. How's that?

Zak
05-30-2008, 04:46 AM
I'm not sure which you meant are and which you meant aren't, but all I know is that some are incorrect because as a matter of fact in both the top and bottom four you said there's at least one that is and one that isn't.

EDIT: I'm an idiot, didn't notice the plus and minuses.

So... yeah, at least one incorrect for each.

Know what, to be fair, say how you think you can get them. That would make things a lot more fair, rather than just randomly guessing.

Agent0042
05-30-2008, 05:47 AM
Oh, well I'm certainly not just randomly guessing. I know at least one or two can be obtained through normal item drops or stealing -- Ultra Waves I know for sure by item drop. Some of the other more obscure ones I know are obtainable to a smart card collector. Otherwise there would be no way you could get them that early.

Zak
05-30-2008, 05:56 AM
Good reckon... well, at least one of them isn't.

Hmm, let me reword the question and edit the original post with it: I'll ask this: Which cards and which drops? That way I can get give credit more easily, and like if someone claims something is from a card and is actually from a drop or from something else, then no credit, 'tis the fairest way. Because... it's just that I don't want to say quite yet WHICH is/are incorrect. That'd be too cheap. Also, this way I'd be able to say more fairly which is incorrect, cause if you said, say "You can get Ultra Waves from a Grat card" I'd deem it incorrect, but that wouldn't mean it's not one of them.

So, reworded the question.

DreinIX
05-30-2008, 03:38 PM
OK, you said before going to the Fire Cavern. Lets see.

Ultra Waves from a Spider Web. Caterchipillar drops it and you can refine it from its card.
Degenerator from Black Hole. Refine Gespers card.
Bad Breath from Malboro Tentacle. Refine Malboros card x4.
Fire Breath from Inferno Fang. Refine Ruby Dragons card x10.
Acid from Mystery Fluid. Refine Gaylas card.
Electrocute from Coral Fragment. From Creeps card I think.
LV?Death from Curse Spike. Refines from Tri-Faces card.
Gatling Gun from Running Fire. Its SAMO-something. Its from a robots card anyway.
Aqua Breath from Water Crystal. Refine from Fastitocalons and Fastitocalon-F card.
Mighty Guard from Barrier. Refine Behemoths card x10.

Im pretty sure these are all you can learn at that point.

What element is Blobra weak against, and how much more damage the element does?
There are 3 correct answers.

DreinIX
05-30-2008, 10:58 PM
Yeah that was kind of a trap question.

It's weak against Fire, Blizzard and Thunder though not at the same time. I think it's random in which element it will be weak against each time. As for the other part for the question I'm not sure how to define it. I believe that if your physical attacks do close to 50-60 damage the attack from one of the (right) element will do damage close to 300-400.

Also is it certain that the elements are only three? I thought that Blobra was weak against any element at random.

Meltigemini
05-30-2008, 11:54 PM
At low levels it will be one of Fire, Ice or Lightning, but at higher levels yes they can be weak against any element.

Swift
05-31-2008, 12:48 AM
I'm looking for the damage increase in multipliers, in example Diablos, he'll take 1.5x of wind damage, so a 50% increase.

Also, the level range would be nice.

Melti has part of the whole question right, they can indeed be randomly weak to any element at higher levels.

Agent0042
06-04-2008, 03:58 AM
Right -- it's been four days. I'd say we just declare Melti partly right and keep things going, except that Melti hasn't been on the Shrine since he posted that answer.

So... in the interest of keeping things moving, a new question. Maybe this one will be a bit easier, we'll have to see:

At the beginning of the game, if you check the tutorial/info console, the Library Committee reports that what two books are overdue (I'm looking for the exact names), and who has them checked out?

Swift, since we're apparently stumped on yours, you can tell us the answer.

Zak
06-04-2008, 08:22 AM
Raijin checked them both out, but the names escape me... I remember they had to do with the same thing. Was one "The Sorceress' Knight"? or something

Meltigemini
06-04-2008, 11:22 PM
Raijin had "Goodbye Pupurun" too.

I know it's over now, but I remember for the last question it's something like:
Lv 1-19: Weak against one of Fire, Ice or Lightning
Lv 20-29: Weak against one of Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind or Earth
Lv 30+: Weak against anyone element
Exception: MD Level - always weak against Fire there.

I don't know the multiplier but it's something like 5x the amount of an element it's not weak against... or about 2x the normal damage to any other enemy. Though they're not exactly comparable anyway...

Agent0042
06-05-2008, 04:12 AM
Actually, they didn't both have to do with the same thing. "Goodbye Pupurun" is correct. "The Sorceress Knight" wasn't overdue -- it was one of four on reserve (to unspecified patrons) and ready to check out.

Melti has one answer -- still looking for the other book. I'll give it a day or so.

Swift
06-05-2008, 05:52 PM
The damage multiplier is 7x.

''Insect Guidebook (Color Edition)''

Had to actually load a very early save to get that piece of info :D

Agent0042
06-05-2008, 10:24 PM
I'm giving it to Melti because I really didn't mean for anybody to look it up -- I can see where looking stuff up could almost be considered reasonable on certain questions, where it would take a fair bit of digging to find anything anyway. But this was relatively easy to look up -- even if you didn't have an early save -- you coulda just started a new game.

So it's Melti's if he wants it.

Yes it's one. You got the first part right. But I want to tell me how come it's only one (mainly because I'm sure many players don't know that small detail and also because I wanted to make the question a little more spicy - just a little).

Zak
06-07-2008, 09:05 PM
I remember thinking it was weird that that was the answer after trying every combination when answering "no" to that question, and I actually still don't get it. Good to hear that someone knows what they mean, cause I'm interested, but for now I'll hazard a guess.

I assumed they mean one of each rare card, like every lv 8, 9, and 10 card is one of a kind in it's own. Right?

DreinIX

I thought so too at first but it's actually something different.

Oh, and guys if you can, try to find it up to Sunday night cause I'll probably won't be able to check in until Thursday.

Zak
06-07-2008, 11:55 PM
Just tell me this: Is it a specific card they refer to, or is it a general type of card they call rare?

Well... hmm, I have a guess. The PuPu card is the only card below level 8 that's one of a kind, could that be it?

It's also the only one unavailable in Disc 4 from the queen or CC group.

DreinIX
06-08-2008, 12:13 AM
Yes it refers to a specific card and yes that card is the PuPu card. And you're pretty close with the justification. But I just don't want to give it away yet cause maybe others know exactly what makes that card rare.

Well, here's a hint. It has to do with the Queen of cards and the CC group.

Zak
06-08-2008, 12:56 AM
Drein, did you read my whole post? Maybe you posted at the same time as I edited.

I said you can't get it from either in Disc 4.

DreinIX
06-08-2008, 01:07 AM
Of course I read it :-) Don't get confused. What makes PuPu the only rare card has something to do with the Queen of Cards and the CC group (and other things as well) but not because of it's unavailability. There's something more specific I want to see written.

Zak
06-08-2008, 01:17 AM
Hmm... if you lose it to them you can't get it back?

DreinIX
06-08-2008, 01:27 AM
Probably you can't get it back but it's not that.

Agent0042
06-08-2008, 03:06 AM
It's the only rare card not reobtainable from one of the two sources you mentioned? Because I believe if you card mod one any other rare card, then you get it back from one of those sources, but with the Pupu card, nothing doing.

Zak

Damn, is that true Agent? You're shitting me... if it is true, I'm gonna go get 100 Holy Wars right now and defeat Omega.

Agent0042
06-08-2008, 05:13 AM
It's what I've heard, although I haven't actually tried it myself. I'm just taking a very good guess as to the possibility that it's right based on what I recall seeing mentioned around these boards before. (I recently started a new FFVIII playthrough and I think I will try it once I get towards the end.)

I guess we'll find out if it's right or not soon enough.

DreinIX
06-08-2008, 11:29 AM
Yes, that's it. If you complete the Queen of cards sidequest on disc 3 and on disc 4 you find the Ragnarok and all the CC members are on board you can refine the GF and character cards and challenge the members to get them again. But I believe that the second time you get them is also the last time you will but I haven't really checked it now that I think about. Anyway that's why the PuPu card is the only rare card since you can get all the other cards at least twice. OK, next question goes to Agent0042 (although I could give it to Zak too since he tried so much). :)

Zak
06-08-2008, 01:10 PM
Hmm, I'll let Agent have it since I've been doing a lot.

Agent0042
06-08-2008, 09:41 PM
All right -- here's one that shouldn't be too rough (no looking up the answer!) -- after you defeat both Sacred and Minotaur, what is the question that the spirit that appears asks of you? (rhetorical question)

Zak
06-08-2008, 10:12 PM
It's not "Have you seen the light" is it?

DreinIX
06-08-2008, 10:14 PM
LOL. I just passed that part five hours ago. But I don't remember the exact words. It was something like that. Is it really necessary to entomb those that died after such a long and tiring journey in life? (Is that valid?)

IDX
06-08-2008, 10:40 PM
You know people will be looking it up ;).

As for me, I have no clue but I think it does lie around whant DreinIX said.

Agent0042
06-08-2008, 10:49 PM
No, it's not "Have you seen the light" -- I believe you're thinking along of the longs of the whole perceiving the resonance thing that was said when you have to solve the light puzzle to reach the battle with the Ruby Dragons and Bahamut.

It's something rather more thoughtful than that.

You know people will be looking it up. :D
Well, bully for them then, if they look it up and then answer. Cheaters! :)

I'll give two days max and then if somebody wants to look it up, they can. But surely there's somebody here who knows this?

Edit -- sorry, I missed DreinIX's response. Yes, that it is correct in all reasonable essentials. Your go, if you want it.

I thought it was 60,000.

DreinIX
06-09-2008, 11:22 AM
No, 10.000 was for Cactuar.

60.000 is the correct answer and the next question goes to Olde.

TeknoBlade
06-10-2008, 03:16 AM
The answer should be 65,535 since it's the maximum value in hexadecimal form. It makes more sense to think they allowed it to max itself instead of having to write a code that stops it at 60,000. But I don't know since I don't remember getting nearly that much.

Okay, name at least 3 items that, in the literal sense of the words, are impossible to actually carry.

Zak
06-10-2008, 09:28 AM
"Friendship" comes to mind. The Moomba thing only available through PocketStation.

Let's see... "Black Hole", teaches Degenerator. "Whisper" would also work.

Do I win? I'm sure there are plenty more, I don't think there were specific ones you were after, right?

Also "Hundred Needles" might be impossible to carry ;)

Okay, OST question. What five tracks (not counting FH) can you hear during the clumsy Fisherkid scene?

Agent0042
06-11-2008, 01:03 AM
I'm going to go with the following, and assuming I'm not right on all five, let's see who else can do better... "Dance with the Balamb Fish," "Don't be Afraid," "Intruders," "Only a Plank Between One and Perdition" and "The Winner."

Please stop me if I'm way off and I don't have, say, at least three of five.

Zak
06-11-2008, 02:28 AM
You've got three of them.

Intruders and Only a Plank are wrong.

Agent0042
06-11-2008, 03:48 AM
Excellent. Well, I think I'll have one more shot at this. I remember the basics of this sequence pretty well, so it's just matter of narrowing it down then. So many different choices though, even though there's plenty of ones I know it definitely isn't. Let's see -- for some reason I'm also thinking "Waltz for the Moon" and maybe "Timber Owls."

Zak
06-11-2008, 09:11 AM
"Waltz For the Moon" is right. One more!

Agent0042
06-12-2008, 01:51 AM
Sweetness. Well, seeing as nobody else is guessing, how about "Force Your Way" - the boss battle theme. I'd been avoiding this one since for some reason I didn't think it was right. But I keep thinking there's at least one more "intense" one and neither of the other choices I made in that general area was right.

Zak
06-12-2008, 07:11 AM
Nope, not that one... good guess.

But I'll hint by saying that it's indeed an upbeat and intense one.

Agent0042
06-12-2008, 08:37 PM
You would have me keep tossing out guesses until I got the fifth one right, wouldn't you? Well, there are only so many that can be considered "intense."

How about "Never Look Back"?

Zak
06-12-2008, 08:43 PM

Agent0042
06-12-2008, 10:22 PM

Meltigemini
06-12-2008, 10:31 PM
I can't remember what it's called now, but I think the missing track is the one that you hear during the FMV where Squall drives up to Edea's float at the end of disc 1...

Zak
06-12-2008, 11:03 PM
Agent: Nope... but WftM is also at the Chocobo dance thing.

Melti: Yes! That's true, but now we need the name of it...

Agent0042
06-12-2008, 11:31 PM

Agent0042
06-12-2008, 11:53 PM
I have it! It's "Dead End," right?

Zak
06-13-2008, 03:43 AM
Yep, that's it!

Alright, I guess since you got all five I think it's clear who the next one should go to...

Agent0042
06-13-2008, 04:49 AM
Ya'ay! I do have to thank Melti, though, if he hadn't mentioned that scene it likely would have taken me quite a bit longer to get that, but once I heard the tune, I immediately recognized it. If I'm not mistaken, it's also the tune that plays during the X-ATM092 sequence.

All right, let's keep this moving. Let's see, a new question...

Oh, what the heck? How about this? During the sidequest with "Mr. Monkey" and the shadow in the lake, if you throw the stone at Mr. Monkey after skipping it five times, the monkey says that you're a big loser because it can skip the rock as many times as it wants and that your mum wears a ___ (fill in the blank.)

Combat boots. I remember going what the hell... haha, it's hard not to laugh when you think about it.

Obel Lake trumps almost all sidequests...

Also yeah Dead End is played at the X-ATM sequence and is named for that, that's what I was thinking when I said "Never Look Back" was close.

Agent0042
06-13-2008, 07:00 AM
Hmm... yes, correct. Which is interesting because it actually wasn't the answer I was looking for. The script I've been using, which seems to be accurate in pretty much all other aspects, makes reference to a "shellsuit." ROTFL. I guess I don't really know where that comes from, since a Google search ends up turning up only a scant few references to it.

All right, your go, if you want it. I just ask no more soundtrack questions for a while, please.

Zak
06-14-2008, 12:03 AM
I ran out of ideas for non-sountrack questions... But anyway... there's a version of the game where the monkey says something else? That's pretty weird.. anyway, I guess I'll do four more before another OST question.

Um.. okay, this is probably be really easy, but what's an item in this game that's in two locations at once, rather than being two different ones? i.e., you pick it up at one location, it disappears at the other? Kinda like the Zodiac Spear chests in XII which are all like one chest and what you get depends where you open it.

Meltigemini
06-21-2008, 01:01 PM
There's a Timber Maniacs magazine at the Balamb hotel and another one at the station, and if you get one the other disappears. Though I don't think they are exactly the same, I'm sure that I've noticed differences on Sir Laguna's Page depending on whcih one you get... and I don't know if that affects the story of the first Laguna sequence either, whether he falls asleep or not, or if that's just related whether you pick up either magazine or not. Anyway I'm getting off the point a bit here, I think that magazine is what you're after. :p

Zak
06-21-2008, 01:18 PM
Yep, it is!

Really there are differences? As far as I know they're both at the hotel in the picture... I could be wrong though, what differences did you see?

If there really is a difference then I suppose it functions exactly like the Zodiac Spear. Except for the fact that no one really cares. :-P

Zak
06-23-2008, 04:36 PM
Um, Melti... are you gonna do one? Or should I think of one.

Agent0042

I'll go...this one's a quickie.

How many lights are visible from the screen/window in the Shumi Village elevator as Squall and friends ascend/descend into the village? (Do not count the bright white light that fills the entire screen at the surface).

Swift
06-27-2008, 12:49 PM
I think I once counted them all out of boredom... My guess is 18.

Noobinabox
06-27-2008, 03:48 PM

20!

Noobinabox

Agent0042

If it's "closer to one than it is to 50," then I'll go with 20. Fair question, though -- are you only after instances where actually says it out loud or does thinking it count too?

Anyone can throw out any number... I'll say 18.

Swift
07-01-2008, 09:53 PM

Same here, snaker, you're driving me nuts.

Let's see, new question... What is the "special something" that the Shumi feel that Laguna has (and thus the reason they chose to build a statue of him)?

DreinIX
07-03-2008, 11:41 AM
I believe that special something was not mentioned because the Shumi couldn't figure out what it was and so they decided to build the statue and maybe they would figure it out then.

Swift
07-03-2008, 12:10 PM
Yeah, like in the making of the statue, they'd remember it.

Agent0042
07-03-2008, 10:05 PM
No, sorry, not what I'm after. Yes, the Elder did say they don't know exactly what it is, but right before that, he did say something specifically that he felt the "special something" was. Sounds like doublespeak, but there it is. So that's what I'm looking for. There definitely was something that was mentioned.

07-03-2008, 11:57 PM

DreinIX

100 Curse Spikes give 1 Dark Matter
1 Dark Matter can give 1 Shaman Stone
100 Shaman Stones give 1 Hero-trial (or was it just 10 - fuck)
10 Hero-trials give 1 Hero
10 Hero give 1 Holy War-trial
10 Holy War-trial give 1 Holy War

Assuming I didn't make any mistakes the number of Curse Spikes is 990.000.000

99.000.000 then?

Noobinabox

Lol at Snaker1, he just posted in a 4-year-old Trivia.

Anyway...

What time(s) in the game can you run around in Balamb Garden with only Squall in your party?

Please be as specific as possible.

Swift
07-06-2008, 10:24 PM
Before you complete Fire Cavern, when you're supposed to go to meet Quistis at training centre, and any time when you decide not to have any party members?

oh, and when the garden is being harrassed by G-Garden.

Noobinabox
07-07-2008, 04:20 AM
Well, I thought you can't "decide" to not have party members. Like, if you have three slots, you have to fill them up, even if the players are KO'd.

Other than that, there's one time you haven't mentioned. I'll tell you right now that it is not part of the main storyline...meaning that you could miss it if you tried.

Also, the moment when Squall goes to the FH Concert with Rinoa doesn't count.

Agent0042
07-07-2008, 05:04 AM
Well, I thought you can't "decide" to not have party members. Like, if you have three slots, you have to fill them up, even if the players are KO'd.
Yeah, Balamb Garden, basically any time you're there after a certain point and you go visit Squall's room, instead of choosing to rest, you choose instead the "Just leave me alone" option. Necessary in order to get Quistis to show up in order to battle her as the CC group King.

Swift
07-07-2008, 09:24 PM
So, what's the correct answer...?

Noobinabox
07-08-2008, 01:11 AM
Agent0042 gets it. It's during Disc 2, once CC Quest is available.

I was really looking for the "Leave me alone" answer. It was the trickiest.

Swift
07-08-2008, 02:41 AM
Isn't CC quest doable during disc 1? IIRC I've done at least up to the one before Xu

Zak

No it isn't.

Agent0042
07-08-2008, 03:50 AM
I would say this goes to Swift -- he pretty much got all the essentials of the answer -- I just filled in that last part.

And, agreed, CC just isn't doable until Disc 2 -- it's simply not made available until then, even if you fill the 20 games prerequisite.

Zak
07-08-2008, 04:10 AM
Actually disc 3 is when it first becomes available.

Agent0042
07-08-2008, 04:22 AM
Oh no, now that's definitely not true. CC quest becomes available as soon as Garden becomes mobile (you can begin it any time after Squall first receives the summon from NORG.)

(And yes, I just checked I know there are several guides out there that say "Disc 3." These guides lie. I'm on Disc 2 right now and I have completed it. This (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197343/10404) guide from GameFAQs has it right.)

Noobinabox
07-08-2008, 12:24 PM
I just completed it too, BradyGames lies.

Agent0042
07-11-2008, 11:00 PM
I guess Swift isn't around, so I'm going to take the question, then.

Name me every time that the game presents you with a choice to either try a task over again or give up and choosing the second (give up) option results in automatic game over. (As far as I know, there are four and those are specifically the ones that I'm looking for. Anymore than that is a bonus, I guess.)

Fight with the G-soldier during the garden wars
Laguna's fight with the Ruby Dragon
Saving Rinoa falling through space
President train kidnapping mission

Yep, those are all the ones I was looking for. Good going.

Which boss enemies can be fought later in the game as random encounters, and where? (I define any boss battle here as one where Force Your Way plays)

Noobinabox
07-12-2008, 03:25 PM
Well, the GIM546 (wrong numbers) are fought at the Desert Prison in order to escape. They're later fought at Balamb Garden in random encounters.

The G-Soldiers that you fight at Balamb with Raijin are also fought in Balamb Garden in random enc.

Uh, those are the only ones I'm thinking of now.

Meltigemini
07-13-2008, 02:52 PM
Yep, those are all right, though there's a few more. Sticking with the Galbadian theme, there is one more there, and there are also three monsters I am thinking of.

Sorry for not being around, but I could drop in a question as an addition to the current one.

How much HP do the anacondaurs have in a no level game during Dollet mission?
(and of course afterwards, too) (rough number wanted, rounded uo/down to 50's)

Your forgetting the guys u fight in the trainning place & the oil things.

Noobinabox

Raldos and Granaldos?

And Oilboylies.

Oh wait, isn't the T-Rexaur a boss when you fight at Balamb?

Agent0042
07-17-2008, 04:18 AM
No, the T-Rexaur only ever appears in random battles. It's just made a point of because it's such a tough monster. If you encounter it in the forest outside Balamb Garden, Quistis warns that sometimes it's better to run. And when you go on the late-night Training Center thing, Quistis will ask if Squall's ever fought it before and mention that junction to status attack is helpful.

Noobinabox

But, when you're rescuing the kids (a bit before the Garden becomes mobile) the Garden Faculty set a T-Rexaur on you.

Agent0042
07-17-2008, 05:04 AM
Oh yes, I forgot about that encounter, but I don't believe "Force Your Way" plays during those battles, and so they're not really counted as bosses. I mean, after all, they set a lot of other stuff on you, too, a lot of it being crap like Grats and Bite Bugs.

Zak
07-17-2008, 08:12 PM
T-Rexaur is not a general boss monster seeing as it's encounterable in the Training Center and the Island closest to hell. But yeah, it's more of a CHASE battle, it doesn't play the normal battle theme either (I think it was The Mission or Only a Plank)

Agent0042
07-17-2008, 08:43 PM
I'm sorry, but I'm afraid not. "The Mission" does play while you're running about, but the normal battle theme plays during that sequence either anytime you encounter a random battle, or when one of the Garden Faculty set a monster on you, including the T-Rexaur. I checked.

How about Vysage Lefty and Righty?

I know they turn into Gargantua eventually, but before they make that transformation, are they counted?

FF1WithAllThieves
07-18-2008, 05:17 PM
No, they're more of a random encounter that sneakily turns into a boss.

Zak
07-18-2008, 08:32 PM
I know you can fight Raldos in the Castle...

Iguions, maybe?

Shadow mage
07-19-2008, 09:57 AM
I dont think u can encounter Iguions again. They are Bosses because you draw Carbuncle from them.

Meltigemini
07-19-2008, 11:43 AM
Yep, Granaldo and Raldo can be found in Ultimecia's Castle, and Oilboyles are in the Deep Sea Research Center. I wasn't counting the Balamb Garden battles, I was careful to word the question as such. Iguions aren't seen again after the boss fight with them.

This question's been going long enough I think. The other Galbadian one was Elite Soldier, which appears with those GIM52As in the prison.

New question. Whoever is fastest out of Noobinabox or Kratos The God. :o

I'll go. What are all of the effects Quistis's Bad Breath can inflict on the enemy?
(Assuming the enemy is not immune to any of those effects).

All these: Poison, Darkness, Silence, Sleep, Slow, Confuse, Berserk, Stop, Slow Petrify, Petrify, Zombie,Vit 0, Doom, Death.

Who all can inflict status effects? just Bosses

Meltigemini
07-23-2008, 12:07 AM
Probably gonna miss something here but I'll put what I can think of:

Gerogero - darkness, silence, poison, curse
Iguion - gradual petrify
Base leader / soldiers - confuse
Oilboyle - darkness
NORG - silence
Cerberus - silence
Edea - curse
Abadon - darkness, confuse

Then I'm sure there's some statuses from bosses in Ultimecia's castle too but I don't remember anything from there...

You can also inflict statues in Seifer and Adel. I got both with Poison and Darkness

I think that question is dead, since Kratos never responded and it's been at least a couple weeks. I'd say new question to anyone that wants it.

All right, well, for future reference, you need to say something to that effect, otherwise, as often as not, activity tends to dry up until somebody notices the thread again and decides to take a crack at it.

Yeah. This is pretty much the only thread I daily check, and its boring to see it being dead -.-

Ugh just because it's "trivia" doesn't mean the questions should be so frivolous! I guess you can ask whatever you want but unbearably difficult questions like this tend to make the thread stand still. Nobody would know this answer unless they got a stopwatch and found a vid, and that could be defined as cheating.

Swift
08-17-2008, 08:30 PM
That's an easy quoestion, extremely easy.
And most people know it anyway because it's enough time to jerk off to porn or something.

Nah :D It just says that you're annoyed by it, by the damn length... I think it's absurd, and the jerking off thingy was just an exaggerated example :D

Agent0042
08-20-2008, 01:04 AM
I don't see how anyone could do that while that sequence was happening, it's so damn boring that they'd have to be totally enraptured in order for the effects to be canceled out. I hated that limit special.

I'll toss out a guess of 90 seconds.

Swift
08-20-2008, 02:15 PM
Not quite 90 seconds, that'd make us bore to death, literally.

FF1WithAllThieves
08-20-2008, 07:34 PM
Gonna guess 20 seconds, but this is an unnecessarily specific and trivial question.

Agent0042
08-21-2008, 02:26 AM
You're right-- now that I really think about it, 90 second is way too long. It just seems like 90. Still, I think it's rather more than 20, though. I'll put in for 45.
