oh true its an Accelerator, my bad...

there is only one GF that is completely missable if you don't do the right thing at one point. which is it and how can you miss it?

Meltigemini
04-24-2011, 07:31 PM
Cerberus, if you don't fight it in Galbadia Garden on disc 2.

Enkidoh
04-24-2011, 10:06 PM
That's not correct - Cerberus can be drawn from Gargantura in Ultimecia's Castle in disc 4 if you missed it the first time.

I think 7alentine means Gilgamesh, as you can't 'gain' him if you hadn't already defeated Odin before reaching the end of disc 3 (Odin can be gained on disc 4 if you didn't gain him earlier however).

7alentine
04-25-2011, 04:37 AM
nope, sorry it isnt Gilgamesh

Enkidoh
04-25-2011, 07:03 AM
The Brothers then? It's optional to gain them and completely missable if you don't go deeper into the Tomb of the Unknown King when you're there on General Caraway's little collection errand. However, I thought even if you missed it then you could easily return there and gain the GF at a later date (even in disc 4, as I'm sure the Tomb isn't sealed off due to it being a dungeon and not a town).

Other than that, I have no idea.

Meltigemini

Meltigemini

In Galbadia Garden's Ice Rink, what is written on the red banner?

Enkidoh
05-09-2011, 10:17 AM
'Keep on Rockin' in Galbadia', I think.

Ironically enough, a similar line was much later used in FFVII: Advent Children on the Meteor memorial - both are references to the title of Neil Young's song Keep on Rockin' in the Free World incidentally (song references show up repeatedly in FF titles, so this one isn't surprising.) ;)

Enkidoh is correct. Next question is yours.

Enkidoh

Okey dokey. :) Here's a nice easy one:

What route number is shown on the front of all buses running in Deling City?

Meltigemini
05-09-2011, 08:18 PM
45

Enkidoh
05-15-2011, 02:43 PM
I'm sorry for the late reply, but that's not actually correct.

In hindsight, I worded my question wrongly - there is actually no route number on the buses in Deling City - the number I was actually referring to is on the roof of the bus, not the front. So I guess it was a trick question (but not intentionally).

Anyway, if anyone wants to guess the number on the top of the Deling City buses, go ahead. :D

Otherwise, I'll open the next question up to whoever wants it.

Yes, I think we should. As for the last question, the answer's on his website. I'll admit, I didn't know it. "Flare becomes accessible after the second dream the team have (that forest before you enter Galbaldia Garden). Once you have completed the dream with Laguna and co run along the sides of the forest that are touching the cliffs, here you will fight only one monster which is a Grendel. Card 100 of these and the 101st card you will receive will be a Tiamat. The Tiamat card can be modded into 10 Flare Stones and then into 10 Flares using Ifrits F Mag-RF."

To get this thing rolling, easy question, what does "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec", the words mentioned in the beginning "Liberi Fatali" (the intro song of the game), mean?

Enkidoh
07-08-2011, 12:17 AM
That's really easy.

Despite the rest of the lyrics being written in Latin, 'Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec' is actually an anagram of 'Succession of Witches', a reference to the sorceresses in the story, with four letters remaining left over, which spell out the game's central theme: 'love'.

The inlay jacket for the FF S Generation CD album mentions this by the way. ;)

Ok, thanks Meltigemini...

Sorceress Adel speaks only three lines in the game... what are they?

EDIT: It's been four days and no one has answered, so here's the answer. Adel says the following three lines of dialogue: "What is going on?" "Where?" and "You thought I would fall for that trick?"

As no one answered, the next question can be asked by whoever posts next.

Geez, I normally give it a month for people to have a try at answering. :p Although to be honest, I couldn't remember exactly what she said anyway. ;)

Anyway, I'll have a go at giving a new question.

What mythological creature (and frequent FF monster) is depicted on the front gate of each Garden? (for Trabia Garden, it's a statue in the ruined fountain).

EDIT: okay, it's been a month so I'm gonna wind it up. Gargoyles are depicted as statues at the entrances to each Garden.

Anyway, free question to whoever wants it.

I'm playing through the game again and I stocked 100 Waters from enemies. And since I've done this with all magic since the beginning, most of the draw points won't let me draw anymore (I'm on disc three and the only draw point I encountered where I didn't have 100 of was Full-Life on the Ragnarok). But in all honesty, I don't even remember there being a Water draw point. But if I must guess, I'll guess try Winhill lol

JohnnyMercyside
09-25-2011, 08:29 PM
No it's earlier than that. The first time you can draw Water from a draw point is in Laguna's first flashback, in the Timber forest before they arrive at Deling City.

Other than "Laguna", what is the only other text given to a Moomba in the entire game?

Enkidoh
02-05-2012, 06:57 PM
I admit that as it's been so long since I played FFVIII, I have absolutely no idea. I keep having this image of a moomba saying a 'coo coo' sound, but that's probably not the right answer. :p

So I have idea what it could be.

JohnnyMercyside
02-06-2012, 04:31 PM
Well it's insinuated that the Moomba asks you which floor you want a shortcut to be set on when in D-District Prison, but after checking the script I can't find any official text that is directed as coming from the Moomba itself. So maybe I was wrong.

Other text otherwise found in the actual script other than the term "Laguna" is "rrrrrgh!", when the Moomba poses when Zell, Quistis and Selphie get their weapons back, and when the Moombas help when finding squall, one of the Moombas say "srrr srr Laguna!".

Free go for anyone as I kinda buggered that one up! :)

I may as well ask a question if no one else wants it. ;)

Apart from the mobile Gardens, and the Ragnarok and it's sister ships, what is another example of an aircraft/flying vehicle in FFVIII's world? (There are several examples which can be classified as a 'flying machine' that I'm aware of, but just give one if you'd like). :)

JohnnyMercyside
02-10-2012, 10:27 AM
T-boards and those flying vessels the people in Galbadia Garden use in the opening FMV there are two I remember.

Szczepan

Jetpack thing of Galbadia soldiers, the mobile seats and cars in Esthar.

Enkidoh

Johnny got two that I remembered (the Galbadian paratroopers' jetpacks and t-boards), but I admit I completely forgot about the hovercars and seats in Esthar, so good catch Szczepan :)).

I would have also accepted the Galbadian missiles as well, as they resemble jet aircraft more than missiles (they have wide wedge shaped bodies with long wings and literally fly above the ground rather than simply streaking towards whatever target they're fired at).

Anyway, either of you can have the question as you're both right. :)

JohnnyMercyside

Seriously though, she asks Squall to meet her there to inform him that she's been fired as a Garden Instructor, although she still remains a member of SeeD. She also basically pours her heart out to him, subtly revealing her feelings for him.

Phoen-IX
04-04-2012, 01:11 AM

Phoenix Down

As I cannot find the answer to this on the first page:
Am I even allowed to answer right after? S:

Enkidoh
04-04-2012, 08:23 AM
No, your answer is right. You got it! :D Well done! ^^

It's an old trick that has been in the series almost since the beginning, in that curative items and spells harm undead (because they're classed as having a 'holy' effect). Hence a Phoenix Down (or Life/Raise spell), an item which is meant to revive from 'death', naturally, against an undead this would therefore have the opposite effect, and destroy it.

In fact, with the Zombie spell it opens this trick up with even enemies who aren't actually undead (namely, normal human enemies - a good battle in FFVIII for this is the second Biggs and Wedge battle in the D-District Prison - cast Zombie on them and when they try to heal themselves they just end up harming themselves instead). :p

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough. You got it Phoe, so next question is yours. :D

Phoen-IX
04-04-2012, 08:13 PM
Whoopwhoop! Sometimes, I found, life and/or phoenix down don't work though. Probably 'cause they find it too easy, but the cures/potions etc have never failed.

Woaahh that casting Zombie-tip is a new one for me! Never even thought of it! Never thought I'd be having this noob-ish realisation over something in FF8. WOAH! XP

According to the official strategy guide, the only human character who carries his/her own card is Edea. Great Hyne story is a reference from some other FF. Which one and why?

FF3, I think.
In 8 there's a guy who tells you the story of the magic God Hyne and how he gave people half his body after a battle, and in 3 there is a magician named Hain who is a magician and is a skeleton.
I think that's right.

Correct answer. Your turn, Gysahl :)

What are Gilgamesh's first line said after Seifer kills Odin?

Enkidoh
07-03-2012, 01:00 AM
"You gave me the fourth one."

He says more after that. But the 'fourth one' naturally refers to Zantesuken which Gilgamesh naturally had just acquired moments before.

Gysahl Greens
07-03-2012, 02:57 AM
Correct!
Your go, Enkidoh.

During the battle against Adel on the Lunatic Pandora at the end of disc 3, when Adel junctions Rinoa to herself, how much HP does Rinoa have, revealed by using Scan? (if no one knows the exact amount I'll award the next question to the closest amount guessed.)

JohnnyMercyside
07-04-2012, 01:35 AM
Haha, no idea what the exact amount is, I think it's around 2800HP? A complete guess. :)

IDX
07-04-2012, 01:48 AM
Wasn't it only 1500HP?

Enkidoh
07-05-2012, 01:56 AM
Nope, it's actually much higher than both of those amounts.

I also made a slight error - I thought her HP was fixed but after looking at the official guide book I belatedly discovered it can actually vary depending on your party's level when you fight Adel (like regular enemies). So the first person to get close to the lowest or highest amount her HP can be I'll give the next question to. :)

Gysahl Greens
07-05-2012, 06:06 AM
well, when i fought her, sqaull was level 80 sumthing, and if i remember... 6,300 HP?
I dunno im probably wrong XD

Enkidoh
07-05-2012, 08:53 AM
According to the guidebook, her HP can be between a minimum 6021 and a maximum 9036. So you got it really close Gysahl. Well done! :D

Your go.

IDX
07-10-2012, 08:31 AM
Who is Griever exactly?

Enkidoh
07-12-2012, 07:00 AM
Depends on context really. As far as I knew, Griever was essentially a symbol of Squall's ideals and dreams technically - a lion, symbolizing honour, pride. loyalty and strength. It was also his idea of the 'ultimate' GF, hence Ultimecia's use of it against him in the final battle of the game - she scanned his mind and found Griever's image, and gave it a twisted form to (presumably) demoralize Squall. Naturally, it didn't work. :P

I presume that's the answer you were looking for.

IDX
07-12-2012, 08:21 AM
Yup. You're go.

Enkidoh
07-14-2012, 06:58 AM

Zone! If you give him one you get a Rename- and a Shiva card in return <:

Enkidoh
07-17-2012, 04:41 AM
That's correct! I would have also accepted Irvine as well, seeing as he leaves one for Squall and Rinoa during their 'date' in Fisherman's Horizon, which Rinoa finds funny but Squall is embarrassed about. ;)

Anyway, it's your go Phoe. :)

Why is the little kid crying in front of the pet shop in Timber?

FF7genie

that question is random lol im guessing ur at that part of the game right now lol

if i remember correctly i think he lost his dog in the petshop?

Phoen-IX
07-19-2012, 06:33 PM
Lol, no. I just wanted a question that was not that easy to google ;)
I played the game too many times not to remember random stuff like that, haha.

But you're right! His dog was in the petshop but the petshop was closed, so he couldn't get his dog and got all crybaby on our asses q;
You'rrrrrrrrrre up!

Phoen-IX

It all comes down to the fact that he lost his dog. Doesn't matter how, when or why to me. And I'm the one that asked the question <;
So, FF7genie, you're going to have to cook up a question. *evil laugh* [:0

IDX

Enkidoh
10-06-2012, 12:06 PM

When Rinoa reveals her brave yet foolish and ultimately doomed planned to stop Edea in disc 1 with a magic-sealing bracelet, what is the bracelet's brand name (if I remember rightly, Zell mentions the brand name in a cutscene)?

Hint: it's the name of a rather oddball NPC who doesn't appear until much later in the game.

JohnnyMercyside
10-09-2012, 08:55 PM
Eeet eeez an Odine brand brazelit :)

Enkidoh
10-12-2012, 07:46 PM

Anyway, your go. :)

FF7genie

just a wild guess, uuum i think getting through without setting an alarm, and changing the course to the missile on the computer in the hallway??

JohnnyMercyside
10-20-2012, 10:08 AM
Sorry Genie that's not right, but it's been 8 days so I'll just say.

1. You have to give the right information to the guards and not lie
2. Avoid all the choices to fight for as long as possible
3. Setting the self destruction to go off at 10 minutes, no longer amount of time will work.

Free question :)

Phoen-IX
10-31-2012, 03:39 AM
None took the free question?! Don't mind if I do then ;>

On the PSX version, get the GF Siren to level 100, refine 100 Curse Spikes (with the Tool-RF ability I think it's called). into the item Dark Matter. IIRC, there is another way via the PocketStation but I'm sure about that.

How many of the game's Guardian Forces do you face in battle? (And name them of course)

Ifrit, Diablos, Brothers, Cerberus, Bahamut, Tonberry, Cactaur...so 7 Guardian Forces

MrMuta

feralanima
10-22-2013, 05:48 PM
Odin?

MrMuta

As you got two and I only asked for two, your go :)

JohnnyMercyside
10-27-2013, 09:59 PM
I forgot about Moomba! :p

My question: What happens when you challenge Irvine to a game of Triple Triad?

MrMuta

11-05-2013, 04:00 PM
Nope!

JohnnyMercyside

No need to reveal, as you're correct :P

Your go.

JohnnyMercyside
11-18-2013, 08:36 PM
Haha, good guess, my second guess was going to be Edea, nevermind :)

There are three game elements that are affected by the amount of steps the player has taken. What are they?

Meltigemini
12-20-2013, 12:12 PM
Getting paid
Learning Angelo's skills for Rinoa
Not really sure about this third one but... advancing the storyline when trapped in the Missile Base? (I think it really just advances once you explore the entire screen, but I can't think of any others...)

JohnnyMercyside
12-21-2013, 11:14 AM
Yep, spot on with both of those :)

The other thing is draw points, these too are affected by how many steps the player has taken.

Your go :)

Meltigemini
12-21-2013, 02:23 PM
Ah of course, draw points...

How can you reduce the damage received from physical attacks during battle, without using Protect or invincibility?

KnightOfTerra

High points in the Vitality stat.

Meltigemini
12-24-2013, 11:25 AM
That's true, but what I was getting at, there is something you can do actually during a battle that will reduce physical damage, regardless of your vit stat.

KnightOfTerra
01-03-2014, 05:03 PM
The ability 'Defend'. You obtain it by either the Brothers GF or the Cactuar GF.

KnightOfTerra
01-14-2014, 05:39 PM
Alright, well since I know my answer is the correct one I will go ahead with a question.

How do you obtain Gilgamesh? Please be somewhat detailed in your response.

MisterSir
01-14-2014, 09:43 PM
You need either the Garden to be mobile or you need the Ragnarok, then you go to Centra and find the Centra Ruins, once you enter the Ruins you have 20 minutes to solve a puzzle and find Odin, In the fight Odin will not attack you at all (easiest boss ever.), when you defeat him he wont be a GF in the technical sense as you can't junction him, but he will come randomly in battles and kill things for you. Anyway when you have him, go and fight Seifer at the end of disc 3, Odin will try to kill Seifer but Seifer will end up killing Odin, Odin's sword will fly into the sky and Gilgamesh will catch it, at the end of that battle Gilgamesh will knock Seifer away saying "You gave me the fourth one. Huh was it you?", and after that battle with Seifer Gilgamesh will take Odin's place in your party.
