Ultra Edition 3.0
16 Bit Flac

If you have not heard the Extended Ultra Edition that came before, there are several extra tracks and some augmentations to others in this even longer edition. I had done some ground work for these extra tracks before, but couldnt make them work within the mix and so left them out, but now I am happy with how they turned out and decided to arrange them into this longer edition.
Ultra Edition 3.0 uses various Vanglis music from the 25th Anniversary edition, but also other Vangelis movie scores and utilizes many of the movie's deleted scenes, narration and alternate cuts. There are one or two other artists too which I will outline in new liner notes soon.
First off I never intended to share this mix with anyone when I created it, because I made it for myself, and was sure no one else would like the way I mixed it. I thought that way mainly because many members of the ffshrine forum are constantly looking for the score exclusively without any FX. If people feel that way I can perfectly understand it. I never minded the voice over in the movie in its earlier incarnations for the most part, but I do prefer it now without. However in terms of this mix I really wanted to include some of it, as it really makes me feel like Im there in the middle of the Blade Runner environment. I know the movie purists out there feel it unnecessary in the movie, and we all know its inclusion was to help 80s audiences understand the story better as a result of bad test screenings. But I liked it because of the noir detective vibe it gave me. The voice over I used, while at times being a tad on the nose within the realm of the movie, to me, sounded appropriate in the context of the mix.
The project began over a year ago now and went through various changes and versions, I edited it mostly in Sony Vegas which, although a movie editor, gave me great flexibility using several timelines one above the other. Other audio processing/recording was done with Adobe Soundbooth & Audacity.
I would love to hear you comments or suggestions on the mix.

ENJOY!

Question A: Is this any different compared to the previous version? It does look longer though...

Question B: Have you ever met Jetro? This one looks like something he might have done...

Question C: Could you please describe this new version and the inspiration behind the making of it? Approximately 150 words should suffice...

Question D: Can I get it signed and delivered to my inbox complete with a mini spinner? Pleaze...

Hi DC, well, this seems all very formal :) okay....

A: Tracks 10, 11, 14, 16, & 17 are new. Augmentations made to the begining of what was previously "On the Esper" is now "Apartment 9732"
B. Jethrotull and I go way back! :) For additional information about that please refer back to our previous private message correspondence from a few weeks ago. This version is an expansion on that earlier mix.
C. I will do that if u want, in a little while. I just assumed most people wouldn't care too much about why or how I made the mix.
D: Er.... Signed? And "mini spinner" what might that be?

Anyway I hope you and others enjoy it. It was a labour of love. :)

I did enjoy it! Thanks! It does sound more "extended + complete" surely.
Most people perhaps will find this mix in their backups in ten years time and wonder who did what and why.
Then it will be my turn to show off with the full bio of the guy behind the mix because I did care to let my niece know that someone put himself on doing it and I happened to share some PM's with the maker on those days.
And I will call myself lucky. :)

Thanks DC I'm glad u liked it! I know that someone with your technical audio talents could probably spot the sources, dubs, fades, low res recordings, duct tape and various other shortcomings making up the mix. I would agree this is about as complete as it will ever be, without retreading old territory that has been done many times before by greater minds than I. Sound FX and Deckard narration in a BR mix is not for everyone but I laid it out as my "love letter" of sorts to the 25th anniversary edition. I will work on a text file shortly to accompany the music, so u can dazzle your friend relatives in years to come regarding the mix.:) There was long liner notes in with the previous edition by my er... lifelong friend jethrotull (ahem!) I will perhaps amend these to break down the new entries in the mix.
What do u mean by mini spinner anyway? If anyone wants to make me a cue file I will provide the time indexes. I have read online, downloaded many apps but still can't make them individual tracks without actually cutting them up on the timeline. Man! I gotta cut back on the pinot grigio here! Good night DC and other assorted blade runner brethren!

I have read online, downloaded many apps but still can't make them individual tracks without actually cutting them up on the timeline.

You just load the uncompressed .wav in Audacity. FILE - IMPORT - AUDIO
Everything is visually there now.
Then go to TRACKS - ADD NEW - LABEL TRACK
Place the mouse where you visually hear the track indexes by left clicking and zooming in on the sections wanted.
When your index is appropriate do place the cursor at the proper spot in the audio and possibly where the waveform is near the zero crossover... or just a few millimeters back... remember you are working visually now...
Press CTRL + B and feel free to input the track names and artist in the field.
Do remember to also add the starting point index of the first track at the very beginning of the file of course.
When you're done indexing go to FILE - EXPORT - EXPORT LABELS and save the label file as text.
Now you need a java app called Label2Cue that will translate the frames into an actual cue file.
Click on the app. Press SELECT FILE
Search your label track file and then press CONVERT.
A pop up window will prompt you to add the name of the file you have just indexed.
Input the file name and make sure you do add the file extension too. .wav will do for the moment. Click OK and close the app.
Now you will find a tiny file with your file name ending with the .cue suffix.
Open that with notepad.
Change the BINARY text to WAVE and start adding the ARTIST FIELD to that. If you are working with a flac make sure the file extension entered in the cue file corresponds to a .flac suffix.
Load the newly Blade Runner Ultra Edition 3.0.cue into foobar2000 and test it!
Done. Easy no? ;)

Mini spinner! (slaps forehead) lol! Why didn't I get that the first time ha ha! I'll have to dust off my Deckard briefcase 5 disc set and fish it out.
I will study your instructions and have a bash at the cue file myself, but there's a high probability I'll take u up on your kind offer of help.
The majority of the audio files on the timeline in my Sony Vegas editor are Flac. I then render the complete mix out as Flac again. Thanks DC your mini spinner is as we speak "on final descent now on glide path on course over the landing threshold."

If you work in FLAC you are basically taking out precious space to your RAM because every sound editor will typically accept only uncompressed wav files by default and will always decompress compressed formats in memory. It will work on the uncompressed wav anyway.
It also will take off a significant workload on your memory.

Now P.Bateman please don't take this in the wrong way. Your "Ultra Edition 3.0" is a excellent piece! Listened to it twice so far. (applause) Must have been a lot of time and effort. (but enjoyable)
1. I see you have track listings for it (up a few). But it's one long track that I downloaded, with no breaks between the 24 tracks listed. Total time of 1:40. I do like it because it just flows nicely. Why the track listing though?
2. It doesn't follow in order to the film. Kinda' out of sequence. Again....it's a great piece...uniquely created...excellently well done... all its own!! Just curious.
Oh...and my compliments to who ever the guy is that does the voice of "Deckard" saying things that weren't actually said on the film.

Hi Jonny,
I am delighted you like it thanks!
Regarding the points you mentioned, as you will see form my conversation with DC above, I am trying to get to grips with the process of creating a cue file to turn that one big file into separate tracks. Just so people can conveniently skip thru as they wish. I hope to do this soon so that's why there are tracks listed.
It was never my intention to make the mix run chronologically to the events in the film. Although they do here and there, and over time the mix has expanded but I never concerned myself too much with that. The 25th Anniversary edition is a case in point where the first track we hear has voice over of Deckard on the esper machine.
Speaking of voice over, all the voice over you hear in the mix is Harrison Ford believe it or not. Its just that they are taken from various deleted scenes and different cuts of the movie. Ford put a different lilt in his voice for some of these scenes. The story goes he thought if he did the VO badly they wouldn't use it as he was against its inclusion to begin with. This is something he denies now though. I guess the differences you hear in his inflections are probably more apparent as they are closer together.

So, thanks again Jonny for your compliments. I very much appreciate it, and I will let you know if I ever figure out this cue file business :)

They are still there. It is their algorithm that prevent you to download something flagged as copyrighted material when the zip was snanned. Copy the link and paste it onto a Firefox new window. It is working on my side.

Hey Mr. P., you're the man.

Last year I helped you with splitting the tracks... But this time I wasn't around (on holiday, actually, with limited access to the internet), so, sorry, but you figured it out... and that's the best part.

I like your first shot last year very much - as I told you already - and this one is much better and already on my phone, coming along with me on the train... wonderful!
To be honest, I like the voice over and fx releases as much as the plain music releases. They both tell their story in their own way.

Beside your release, one of my favourite is and will ever be the Esper Edition from ...2002(?). It was the first BR release I stumbled over and it smashed me right out of the chair... But this is a long time ago, but still...

I am proud the take part in this thread, even if it is a small part, because the people around are so virtuous, I will never reach their professionality.

But I am happy to sit here in silence, hear the great work - smiling and enjoying - and knowing, that from time to time, I have the chance to see the ongoing process and effort of the creators, whose product just fill my ears.

Is there anything better?

Hi all,

Thanks to DC, who has shared with me numerous sources I didn't have, I am (after two years) putting the final touches on a compilation of the Blade Runner music as it was used in the film -- every single cue, edited or crossfaded as necessary, using the Director's Cut as my reference. I've discovered a great many interesting details as well as errors in previous boots, sometimes involving simple mislabeling of cues, and other times involving tracks running at the wrong pitch/speed. For instance, the track labeled on many boots as "Roy Enters the Bradbury" is actually the last half of the cue I'm calling "Show Me What You're Made Of." The music corresponding to "Roy Enters the Bradbury" in the film is almost identical to the earlier cue, "Pris Meets J.F. Sebastian," with some small differences.

Where no title has existed previously for a cue, I have used a line of dialogue from the scene as the title.

I will include all my findings and sources in notes accompanying the set.

In addition to the film versions of the music, I will include a bonus folder of unedited compositions, from which the film cues were created.

Blade Runner -- The Complete Score: 35th Anniversary Edition

All seems kinda' quiet on the "homefront".

I did find out that Ridley Scott will be making another Blade Runner movie. Don't know when yet. Maybe Vangelis with participate this time...if it happens!

Hey P.Bateman still been listening to your Ultra Edition CD. Still as great as the first time!!

Thanks Jonny K you are too kind. :) I was tinkering with it recently to see if I could put the tracks in movie chronological order. An idea you put in my head actually. But it's not going well, I've painted myself into a corner with how I had ran certain tracks together as it is. Certain dialogue placement makes it tough to work in movie order. ( This is what I do when procrastinating over guitar practice) :)

Can anyone recommend any works that are directly inspired by The Blade Runner soundtrack?

Analog Sweden's Moments Lost (http://www.analogsweden.com/ML) is the obvious first choice.

Kevin Csizi's 2019: Sounds Of The Future (https://www.discogs.com/Kevin-Csizi-2019-Sounds-Of-The-Future/release/10527590) is another good one.

Register Zero's Repairs (http://registerzero.com/) is clearly inspired by Blade Runner to some degree as well.

What else is out there?

Can anyone recommend any works that are directly inspired by The Blade Runner soundtrack?

Try:

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
David Bowie - Low (side B. Favorite tracks from side B: "Art Decade" and "Warszawa")
David Bowie - "Heroes" (side B)
Jean-Michel Jarre (son of the great Maurice Jarre) - Oxygene
Brian Eno and Robert Fripp - No Pussyfootin'
Brian Eno & Toto - Dune
Brian Eno - Before and After Science
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Thousand Knives of Ryuichi Sakamoto

These are all different years that predates or came after "Blade Runner" but yeah. Still good.

I should also say that I think the "Untitled Asian Music" heard during Deckard and Baty's fight is another traditional Japanese piece, possibly recorded by Vangelis, that we simply haven't identified yet. Anyone know an expert on Japanese traditional music?

I tried to get to the bottom of this some years ago, and put it in the liner notes of the bonus 4th disc. A colleague of mine at works nephew lived in Japan (married a Japanese lady). The piece he couldnt identify but translated the words hito me.

As far as I know its never been identified....

Mmmhhhmmm... to my knowledge he hadn't received any warning... if any trial had going on behind the bytes of the page he should have had a right to know first perhaps... he might have even sent a preview to show his/her good will... some people might understand that one might have a busy life as it is sometimes... I understood that it was a work in progress. That's why the original link was pulled away.

What will be now happening is that we are going to get the links clickers will be happy to move their mouse on... some well deserved thanks for the year work I trust... another thread exactly identical to the one that got nuked... but without all the references to the discussions and the making of what did brought those links to be the ones everybody will be clicking.

Is there any way to restore the nuked content once the links will be officially available for everybody?

Not that it will change much what happened... but losing bits of information might not exactly be what the peers coming after us might need...

Anyway... Talking about expectations: Blade Runner : The Complete Score (2019 Limited Edition) (Thread 229460)

Without "shock" not immediately relying on Google, wasn't that something to do with Massive Attack and a live rescoring of the film? I may, of course, got that from a parallel universe, in a dream ;-) If I'm right, I haven't seen any bootleg appear. It would be another Holy Grail for me.

It's because the song is used by a source track in some cuts of the film but not others. Most bootlegs like to include it for completeness sake.

Quran was used in an early cut of the movie, (work print i think) in the scene where Deckard visits Taffy Lewis, it can be heard blasting away as he questions Taffy, however that music was changed in later cuts. But I believe you can still faintly here Quran in every cut of the movie as Deckard speaks with a patrol cop outside Taffy's before he goes in. The early cut is showing this is the music coming from inside the club. So that is why it is included in various bootlegs, and of course our beloved EMS recombination.

Terry Rawlings, Film Editor on 'Alien,' 'Blade Runner' and 'Chariots of Fire,' dies at 85 (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/terry-rawlings-dead-was-film-editor-alien-blade-runner-chariots-fire-1204021) :(

In the opening of the sci-fi classic Blade Runner (1982), Rawlings receives a "supervising editor" credit. "I was the only editor, and the reason I had to have that [credit] was I wasn't a member of the American union then," he
recalled (https://vimeo.com/45239409) in a 2012 interview.

"To work over in America was very difficult, because of union problems, and I had to work on the film in a little hotel place because I wasn't allowed at Warner Bros. to cut it there."

The studio hired Marsha Nakashima as a cover, and she received an "editor" credit at the end of the movie.

Blade Runner is notorious for its multiple versions and changes requested by studio executives after the film underperformed upon its debut.

"When it was first taken to America, it was with no commentary, and it ended with them [Harrison Ford and Sean Young] going through the doors. And when we ran it over there, people were saying, 'We don't understand it.' Nobody understood it to start with, it was so ahead of its time," explained Rawlings.

A solution was to introduce the now-famous Ford voiceover, and the film's ending was changed to a happier, more upbeat finale using aerial footage shot from The Shining.

The voiceover was eventually removed in subsequent rereleases after a screening error in a Santa Monica cinema showed the original cut one night.

"I think it's great when the door closes," Rawlings said. "You make up your own mind. They're not going off holding hands in a car, which was dreadful."

He was the only living person that could shed some light into what happened back then...

I wrote him several months ago to ask but never received a reply. It's possible he's been ill for a while. One wonders if his notated copy of the script still exists.

With a few exceptions I think we're there though. Jabberwocky711 here has done a darn fine job in IDing the missing cues used on the Workprint. I believe the mystery blimp song might be either a rendition by Vangelis of a japanese folk classic either some obscure vinyl lying there for a reason. A stroke of genius like in everything music. We might as well forget to nail down the exact versions of the sources used for the edits since the people working on the movie had their own versions of the masters of course. Most of those sources made it to our time in a different form sometimes, but hey! At least we've been chatting here all these years for a reason! Where there's a will there's a way. The rest is up to them. And the more we keep talking about it the more the chances to get people like tomatoJP join in the discussion and adding to it, the better. "Hana no Tabi" should be the closest to our guesses I am hoping. And do not forget that there are some masters readily available by the Warner people that have everything on it. One day they will do something about that. They might have wrote the history but we have done our part in putting it into the right words somehow.

Yes, I agree, we've gotten farther than anyone has before and if that one little piece of music is all that's left to identify, I think I can live with that. I've managed to figure out all the other little puzzles and misinformation that I've had questions about for years, too. It's too bad I couldn't interview Terry Rawlings before he died, but I looked over my essay last night and it's pretty close to being finished. I want to talk to a couple more people first, though.

I can't answer as to the existence of such an audio rip of the entire movie, but i can tell you that it is possible and really easy to do. There is free dvd-mp3 software out there that can rip to many formats and bitrate. The beauty of that is that then you have a hi def sound base to edit and play with. Even Audacity does a respectable grab if you set it correctly.

In a manner of speaking, yes. There is a high quality straight audio recording of Blade Runner itself.

Wow! The Pendor version is great! Thank you. Having some trouble downloading The Final Cut, as Mega is asking for me to download and install their app.
By the way, since there are so many versions of Blade Runner music, has there been any attempt to write the history of all this down? I know this would be a hard thing to do given that so many fans have done all the work anonymously. But wouldn't it be a great reference, or to even have a timeline of when all the different versions came out, which have the best sound quality, and what are the major differences between each one. Is there any such writing by someone with this kind of expertise?

I think you are having the Blade Runner, Il Cacciatore Di Androidi [Sceneggiato Radio Rai] 2003 (Thread 72496), the Italian radio play based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick that was aired on December 2003 with the Blade Runner music by Vangelis as score to top the atmosphere of a play that stands in between the movie adaptation and the novel that the movie was based on.

Memoires Vol. 12: Blade Runner Radio Special (2001) (Thread 76419) (basically a vinyl transfer of the original promotional 1982 NBC's radio special) was the one you were referring to. :)

Having some trouble downloading The Final Cut, as Mega is asking for me to download and install their app.

I guess you will get that message depending from which browser you will be downloading the link. Try using a different browser (using a physical computer possibly) where you can save the file. I am pretty sure the App won't hurt any computer though, but I'd give a try at the first options possibly. :)

... since there are so many versions of Blade Runner music, has there been any attempt to write the history of all this down?

In a manner of speaking it is all written on these very pages. The maker of the Blade Runner: The Complete Score (2019 Limited Edition) (Thread 229460) has done something on this direction, but it has not gone public so far. When I am going into retirement I might attempt to do something on such regard perhaps! :)

I think it quite fascinating that the Blade Runner soundtrack has such a following, and it could probably fill a small size book all this talk, even just on this forum with all this information that is available. I hope you consider writing it on "retirement", as long as it is NOT "retirement" in the Blade Runner reference!

This radioplay adapts, according to the canons of the radio drama, a classic of the science fiction genre: "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", considered by many critics as the most successful book by Philip K. Dick.
A science fiction story that blends hints of quite diverse narrative structures, including those resulting from the meta-philosophical analysis, dear to the author, of some great existential themes.
Dick's farsighted and almost prophetic glimpse on the future of cybernetics awakened the artistic interest and curiosity of Ridley Scott, who, in 1982, the very year in which Dick died, enlisted in annals of the cinema history "Blade Runner", the science fiction film that still remains an unsurpassed masterpiece.

NOTES :

Italian radio play based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick.
Aired on December 2003 with the Blade Runner music by Vangelis as score to top the atmosphere of a play that stands in between the movie adaptation and the novel that the movie was based on.
A very good adaptation by italian screenplayer Armando Traverso and dubbed by the same voice used for Deckard in the italian version of the movie among the others. If you can understand italian you will not be disappointed.
It was posted on various boards but all the relative infos seems to have gone lost unfortunately. This has all the relevant infos that it should have had in the first place. A custom cover and a more proper tagging along with the original notes appended to the archive (italian language only I'm afraid)
If you are going to leave something to the peers coming after you always make sure to take care of the historic references. It does make a difference for everybody.

NOTA BENE :

This is technically a remastered re-encode from the original low quality sources widely available on the world wild web.
The original first broadcasting in December 2003 was in mono.
The second re-broadcasting in April 2012 was in the original stereo.
No better sources have ever been available to the Italian listening public unfortunately. And since we were at it, we took good care of bettering what eventually made it also to podcast public domain.
Please feel free to enquiry about the means to achieve a better re-encoding from low quality sources if ever in need.
Contact: you know where. If not, do not bother either.
Dynamic pricing might apply when we manually enhance a source after it is submitted. If your request cannot be completed as dialed, please consult your directory and call again or ask your operator for assistance.

Tyrell: "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy. Look at you: you're the Prodigal Son; you're quite a prize!"

Batty: "I've done... questionable things..."

Tyrell: "Also extraordinary things; revel in your time."

Batty: "Nothing the God of biomechanics wouldn't let you into heaven for..."

Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die."

Upon his death Roy Batty's soul ascends into the heavens in the form of a dove.

It was in 2019. 37 years ago.

He was a great actor, and a great man. He had set up "The Rutger Hauer Starfish Association" in order to spread the awareness of AIDS and give a helping hand to those in need, and was also made a knight in the Order of the Netherlands lion.

He was such a great actor in The Hitcher, Ladyhawke and Batman Begins, and brought such an unforgettable performance to my favorite movie villain Roy Batty in Blade Runner.

R.I.P Mr. Hauer, all those moments (in both your life and in film) will never be lost.

Seems kind of coincidental he died in 2019. But truly a terrible loss.

If anyone is interested, I can get the 4k final cut complete audio extracted and split into separate channels?

OK, here is the Final Cut from the 4k release.
Split into 7.1 channels. Easier if you want to isolate cues.

Vangelis / Blade Runner Final Cut 4k - Separate 7.1 Channels (https://mega.nz/#F!eu5ymASL!5FoSQ29_WWk3HfQUrAeJpg)

Also here is the Workprint version split into 5.1 channels. I understand it has some different music. The Taffy Lewis bar scene has Brian Eno music.

Vangelis / Blade Runner Workprint BD - Separate 5.1 Channels (https://mega.nz/#F!zmBGXYJB!cgAWLnrerygUMxL9yb6heA)

Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the ’70s who went on star in the 1982 “Blade Runner” as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.

Shame :( Loved his film factory's short film "Lonesome" with Vangelis score.

If anyone is interested, I can get the 4k final cut complete audio extracted and split into separate channels?

Is that the Dolby Atmos or the True HD audio stream?

When I first attempted to do that there wasn't any "tool" that could decode the added information of the Dolby Atmos stream...

How do Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos differ?

Dolby TrueHD is a lossless audio codec that supports up to eight audio channels on Blu-ray Disc. Dolby Atmos soundtracks, in contrast, consist of audio objects up to 128 of them that are mixed in a 3D soundfield during the production process. When the soundtrack is played back in a movie theater or home environment, the audio objects are rendered by an Atmos decoder to the available speaker set, which includes overhead ceiling speakers.

While Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD are two separate soundtrack formats, Atmos data on Ultra HD Blu-ray is actually an extension to TrueHD that is folded into the bitstream to maintain backwards compatibility. Heres how that works: If you play a disc with an Atmos soundtrack, the Atmos extension data is decoded by an Atmos-compatible receiver. If your receiver isnt Atmos compatible, the extension data is ignored and the soundtrack is decoded as regular Dolby TrueHD.

Could you please share the lineage of the process that lead to the posted results? :)

It is actually a simple two step process, just time intensive.

First grab the image from the disk (DVD, BD, 4K) using DVD Fab set to MKV Passthrough This creates an exact copy of what is on the disk.. Make sure you only have the soundtrack you require set to copy.
For 4k you need a UHD 'friendly' drive. Hard to come by as they have been patched to remove this loophole. But can be down firmwared with the right setup.

Then use EAC3TO to extract the soundtrack from the mkv file to single waves or whatever you want.
You can find EAC3TO at http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966

BTW still no way to get DTSX or Atmos specific data yet. You will get the 7.1 'core' track.
Using the above Fab copy process, put on a USB and plug into a 4k tv etc, and it preserves the Dolby Vision / HDR as well.

Oh my godness! I totally missed the UHD 'friendly' drive thing since I last did that. I take it is something that will allow a Blu-Ray reader to see it as a Blu-Ray disc.

I just made AnyDVD HD rip the disc onto an external drive and from there used a software called DVD Audio Extractor to get the output decoded to 32bit floating point to retain the floating point nature of the encode. Different methods to get to the same results. So it is going to be the 7.1 True HD stream which does have more "deepness", but it will give the usual edits eventually. Others tended to use Audition to do that for example.
I remember EAC3TO was fine too... only drawback was that every other software tended to change the output of the resulting waveforms, so I was never able to understand the logic about that though sonically they did sound very similar.
I just used my hearing to judge which was best according to the edits I might want to do on a given audio clip. Very time consuming if you ask me. But it was worth the efforts given the positive feedback.

I know that also Audacity can do the trick after you have separated the audio stream. Just make sure to turn Dither option off and export the audio as separate tracks as 32bit files since you will definitely need to normalize, denoise and so on and that will need all the available deepness of the audio. Do keep it as a 32bit file until the very last step in producing the final output otherwise you will end up with a sum of dithering noise that will likely alter the stereo image. Most releases around here do suffer from that a lot. If exporting to mp3 do not use dither. I trust you all got the message. :)

After all the efforts done on the DVD audio streams I'm afraid we never had the strength to go all over again through the higher resolutions streams... :(

... but “Help will always be given at Final Fantasy Shrine Forums to those who ask for it.” if you feel to take on the task all over again! ;)

Thanks for the upload! ;)

Yeh, to do 4k disks you need a BDXL drive and it has to be 'friendly'.
When it became possible to extract 4k titles, all manufacturers rushed to bring out patches to close this loophole in the guise of 'improved' performance.

As I stated it is possible to downgrade players to the earlier good firmware, but it can be tricky. I have done it to one of my drives, now I have 2 'friendly' drives.

...could you perhaps tell us more about these friendly drives, or possibly point interested parties to sites that might have lists of makes, models, firmware locations, downgrade instructions, etc.? Asking for a friend...

I use DVD Fab and here is a list of their supported drives. NB. the firmware version needed.

https://www.dvdfab.cn/4k-uhd-drives.htm

I use the LG LG BH16NS55 and have 2 of them. One I have downgraded myself to Firmware 1.2
I am getting 2 more arriving next week so if one dies, I have drive still.

DVD Fab has a downgrade program, but I prefer to do it myself. The tools are available on the net, but modern Motherboards do not now do the ATAPI mode that is needed. I have a really old PC that I use that handles this mode, and a 32bit OS.

here is one site with details to start with:

https://www.dvd-cloner.com/knowledge/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=378&EntryTitle=how-to-downgrade-friendly-drive-firmware&mobile=0

This is the process I have used successfully.

https://club.myce.com/t/dosflash-v2-0-patched-to-support-bh16ns40-bh16ns55-drives/399911

OK, as of Feb 2019 shipped from Factory with 1.04 firmware, which they have (temp) stopped being downgraded. Folks from a couple of forums have worked out some ways, but nothing concrete yet. Only a matter of time.
