A general question to the rippers, can Halo ODST be ripped, or is it similar to Halo 3, where it is unable to be decrypted at the moment? I remember Pie saying that was one of the reasons Halo 3 was unrippable.

How exactly did you crack this music, like what tools did you use? I've been driving myself nuts trying to figure it out.

It can convert to wav, and in turn you can use Xilisoft Audio Converter to convert the wav's to mp3s.

Damn hard score to rip; multichannel mp3 didn't work at first but did later, but had already downloaded the 360 version, so licensed tracks and postrace tracks were from the 360 version while the surround tracks were from the PC version.

I highly understand your decision not to want to be disturbed again by requesters, but I don't think this is a good solution:
- There certainly will be members who weren't a nuisance but will be forgotten because they didn't post enough, or come often enough, to be noticed. For an example, I don't think I'll be PM-ed, whereas I was always polite (and try to write an understandable english) and the only time I requested in an unappropriate topic was at least one year ago in Orange's solo's topic^^
- You might have just locked this topic so that only the contributors can post, and not the other members. This way, the topic would have been clean of any requests and "thanks messages", and everybody could continue to get the links of new downloads...

I ripped the PC version but I'm not sure if it contains all the tracks. Track titles in brackets were retrieved by a hex editor within some control files, no changes made to these names.

I'm, in all honesty, glad you left, and took your whole VGM Legacy troop with you. There's a difference between appreciation for WORK and appreciation for recording and pirating video game music.
What we're doing is, at the end of the day, still piracy and illegal.

I've never seen thieves, burglars or murderers ask for appreciation of their work, either. And believe me, some of them are really skilled in what they do and spend a lot of work into their crimes, too.

Recording music and uploading it is not a form of artistic expression, but that's exactly what OrangeC and his companions are making ripping VGM to.

Also, there's a difference between appreciation and "Say thanks or you're an asshole leecher, a low-life human who should be destroyed and is not worth anything!". Seriously, if you upload something, there will ALWAYS be leechers. Always. If you get thanks or something in return if you need something, great then! I repeat, sharing music is about SHARING MUSIC, not about inflating your ego with people who say thanks.

I knew a different thing, and I'd want to get some correct information on the matter myself:

You're free to do what you want with the files, as long as you keep 'em to yourself. You don't actually own the rights to the files. When you buy a game/audio CD, you only "buy" the right to use them/make a backup copy, you don't become the owner of the whole thing.

Anyway, shotput angelcake had a point: wanting appreciation for pirating music/breaking the code of a game to extract it? (example: Xbox 360's .XMA files... The data they contain isn't supposed to be encrypted?). Just look at the download counts! MEGAUPLOAD, Rapidshare, FileFactory.... Most sites now allow you to see how much downloads you get off your files.... Now, you might like it or not, but getting your stuff downloaded is already a form of appreciation.

As far as I know it, legally, any game is just and only software nothing more nothing less. There is no specification about how valuable files are or what they must contain. This makes a Readme file as valuable as any music file extracted. For some games you don't need to extract anything, simply installation does the thing for you. And thus makes these files as viewable/playable as any Readme files. The copyright applies on to the whole game, not just some specific files. Hell, I'm not claiming anything, I don't know maybe some nations laws do this, but that is something I haven't heard of yet.


If you share music that has an official score, it's definitely illegal, and if you share music of a game that doesn't, it's more going towards a grey area, but still pirating music.
