I have an actian figure of Link and Ganondorf from OoT. I don't know where they are though... probably in a box someplace.
I had Link too, he came with a horse

Yeah, and that cheap sword and Shield. I think Ganondorf came with a mask and a spear thing, like Phantom Ganon in Forest temple. He basically came with phantom ganon's horse too, I think.

Not sure how many of you know (or maybe even care) but apparently they're re releasing the original power rangers toys
I don't care what anyone says that is just awesome. BTW these were found at walmart for anyone interested.
Hrm. Maybe I need to stop waiting for TF to release a decent gestalt and just get a Megazord.
Especially if they rerelease the Dragonzord and Tigerzord ;)

They're not re-releases, small ones are new molds. The "megazord" isn't quite the same either, it's a bit smaller than the old one. Reasonably priced, though.
There's a recent line called SUPER LEGENDS for Power Rangers that had stylized action figure versions of various zords, that's where the head to that goofy custom came from.

Did anyone else also used to have the Power Rangers with the flipping heads? They'd spin around and change between their heads and their ranger helmets, and the one that wasn't used was hidden in their chests. Hours of fun.
I never had one, but I remember them! Pretty sure a friend of mine had some. He had a ton of Megazords. We used to make fun of him for it, a bit. It was totally jealously.

If it's of any comfort, the series that Power Rangers was pulled from (Super Sentai) started in 1975, and the lion part of Voltron (GoLion) first came out in 81. The first big-combiner robot in the Super Sentai series didn't come until 1980 though, so the line is blurred a bit.
As far as vehicles combining into robutts goes, Combattler V from 76 predates both, but you can chalk up a point for Voltron, as GoLion's creator also created that series!
Gatchaman (G Force) did the whole 5-man superhero team thing earlier in 72.

I was gonna say something about how "power rangers" was made first but you summed it up perfectly.

I'm not sure if I have the "this did it first" stance right, but I just wanted to stress that the 70s-80s were ripe with the whole superhero/giant robot stuff over there.
I'd say the Voltron>Power Rangers argument could be validated in that yes, it came to English speaking audiences earlier and was indeed successful, proving those kind of shows do have an audience outside of Japan. I doubt it was a direct inspiration to pull the trigger on the Sentai rebranding though. I know when "Power Rangers" debuted even Transformers wasn't very popular anymore, so a big ol' robot show could've been a gamble.

If you want to go back even further, Japonese Spida-Man was even firster.

Also Ultraman was originally a Twilight Zone, Outer limits style 1 shot strange fiction story show; the 1 episode that featured Ultraman was so popular that the show became exclusively about him.

The way I see it, the Voltron characters (Keith, Lance, Hunk, etc) were inspired by Gatchaman that originates from 1972 or '73 (memory is sketchy) which is still better than Super Sentai or Power Rangers.

I used to justify the dancing stuff as a build up to a major mood shift there, but I saw a fan edit where it worked fine without all the zaniness as well. Spiderman 3 feels like it's a hole bunch of great scenes from completely different scripts or at least 2 movies crunched together, then add Toby & Kirsten's waning enjoyment for doing these movies and it's not as bad as I thought it was the first time I watched it but it is messy and could have been way better.

I've re-named the Ice Cream Twins Ben & Jerry, and I didn't have time to transform them because These are my own pictures that I took as a test for my new camera. It was an Insignia 10.0-Megapixel Digital Camera Model: NS-DSC10B and with the exception of these few hardly any of the other pics turned out acceptable. First and foremost the zoom just wouldn't focus properly, the buttons would only respond half the time it took sometimes as long as 7 secs between pics, Macro on/off & face target on/off are the only options, and it ran on 2 AA batteries which would last for about an hour.
I returned it with on fuss and now have $50 to put into a new camera, I'm used to my sister's Nikon Coolpix so I'm thinking of something like that but I'm willing to try a different brand. Any suggestions?

Here's my first serious photo test. The weather hasn't been favorable so toys had to do, all in all I've picked up some good tips for this kind of photagraphy and I hope I can learn how to do real people just as well.
Samsung SL620 12.2 Mega Pixels 5x Optical zoom
For the ones I took first I used the settings:
} 3 lamps with regular compact fluorescent light bulbs / 1 coming from each side & the 3rd overhead
} Scene / Close Up
You can tell because theyre slightly more yellowish and in the case of the ones taken in front of the plain white background a little flat looking.
With some experimenting Ive found what I think are the best settings for these types of photos:
} 2 of the same lamps as before but now they have daylight spectrum bulbs
} Program setting
} Flash off
} Macro on
} iso set to 100
} The rest of the settings are either off or set to default
This is my setup.

New toys you guys!
It seems that both Figma & Revoltech are making Asuka in the new plug suit as well as Rei in the orginal one.
Revoltech:

Note the hair joints.
Figma:

(
http://www.pimpandhost.com/index.php/image/3173345-original.html)
I have to say I like the the face on the Figma better, she looks more like the artwork but it looks like the revoltech has a least 3 faces for her.
Here's the amalgam of expanded universe characters Mana & Yuko,(Yoko? Yako?) Mari.

(

Here's Unit 02 with chinese finger traps coming out of it's back.

(

They absolutely need to make a Misato.
Trigun:
Vash

Wolfwood

(
http://www.pimpandhost.com/index.php/image/3173336-original.html)
Hopefully they'll get to the sweet, dumb, giant girl.
With these on the way perhaps the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Lupin III, Miyazaki, & FLCL are more likley.
The sci-fi western movie line for Revoltech.
Jurassic Park T-Rex:

(

Batman Begins Batman:

(
http://www.pimpandhost.com/index.php/image/3173344-original.html)
Doesn't look as good as everything else but he will come with an alt Bruce head.
Alien:

(
http://www.pimpandhost.com/index.php/image/3173343-original.html)
And finally Thriller Michael Jackson:

(
http://www.pimpandhost.com/index.php/image/3173341-original.html)
In addition to these will be Predator, Queen Alien, Jack Skellington, Starship Troopers model suit, Baragon, more Haruhi (like we need more of her :/) and a bunch more that I didn't recognize.

Vash should came with an alt gun arm and funny guy head. They're gonna have revo joints for the tails on there coats! Sure it looks kinda goofy but it's better than with star wars guys were they'll release a character specific vehicle but the only figure of that person can't fit becosue their capes gt int he way adn you have to wait 2 years for a new version jsut to fit int he cockpit.
Cockpits, Booby Traps.
I really should watch Trigun & Cowboy Bebop start to finish in order.

Saw that one at Walmart and it didn't have the flippers but the color and paint job is very garish.
Another thing I saw was that there's a not as girly section in the barbie isle, They had Bond girls Honey Rider, Pussy Galore, & Halley Berry as well as some more grown up dolls in black dresses that aren't slutty plus it looked like there were quite a few skin color variants to choose from.

It looks like they have those dumb hip joints that go up into the torso instead of out from the pelvis. Is it really more expensive to have them come out of the crotch? At Least the paint jobs look above average for a mass produced Hasbro toy and the suitcase one has multiple hands with what looks like very long and sturdy pegs.
Why didn't we buy more toybiz marvel guys when they were under $8 and came with a display base and comic book?
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-06-2010, 07:56 PM
True facts - Toy Biz's next action figure line after they sold Marvel Legends was priced at 10-11 bucks as well, and the same sculptors still worked on the Hasbro ML line
They also used that kind of hip joint all the time

Right now my big toy plan is to get as many Booster Gold and Blue Beetle figures as I can (sadly, there aren't that many), and then put them all on a shelf with the mini-mate Martian Manhunter standing on an oreo with his arms raised in the air in the center. I will imagine that he is crying to the heavens.

More space and money fo sho. Don't worry, when I win the lottery I'm gonna buy the FFS party mansion and then we can all collect awesome things to fill it with.
I still see the DCUC Booster Gold and Blue Beetle sometimes at Target. Sadly though the price has gone up to 15 each, and apparently, it's going to go up to 20 in September. That's kind of fucking ridiculous. Mattel is great at pissing off collectors.
If they go up to 20 dollars - they better be way easier to find and have absolute immaculate quality.

Hey Marceline...
I love that meme, Tom. <3 In the comics thread or elsewhere you and I should post all of those that we have so that everyone can see them and we can see if we have any the other person doesn't have!
/co/ is pretty awesome most of the time. I occasionally go to /toy/ too. I have tried going to /v/ but they all hate everything and are mad all the time.
Ktulu, I miss Mediaplay too. ; ; Mine's been gone since 2004 I think and I still mourn its loss every time I go to the mall where it was. I used to have that card where you'd get little gift certificates for money spent there or at Suncoast Video, and I'd get so much awesome stuff at the two places.
Keepin' this on topic:
Seriously thinking about getting these when they come out. They won't fit me I'm sure, but $60 does not seem like a bad deal for the full set and it'd just be so cool. ; ;
Also, Hobby Link Japan is getting those Banpresto Umineko figures I posted a while back in a couple of months. They're pretty cheap so it's seriously tempting! Now that I don't collect ponies anymore I feel like I need something to fill the toy void. I should probably sell the ponies I don't love first though. ; ;
Oh Man~! The white lantern corps *o*
That sounds like an awesome deal. I've been looking for a good quality lantern ring set!

They light up when you put them on your finger too. So awesome. ; ; I would totally put the white one on my finger and then look up pictures of dead characters I like and say LIVE because I am a sad little nerd.
Anyways, they come out in July I think? My LCS went out of business and I am trying to find a new one, hopefully whatever place I do find gets them in first so I can check them out in real life before buying them.
Yes, the main thing I hate about online purchases is a majority of the time they don't put an accurate picture up! I just searched for good ones, and no luck. Wtf! Er, well there was this Lantern Ring trophy case with rings in it for 250$ :-(

I like how they bothered to make the spring launcher for Ironman even though it won't have the feature and could have gone without it anyway.

Holy shit. Inclusion of shrek is amazing. Beyond my wildest dreams.

Rolled up sleaves superman, blue Lightning McQueen, the Shriek & Donkey image they chose, and TMNT who ain't even in the set.

Mr. Incredible isn't in it either.
Incidentally, I feel that The Incredibles is the one Pixar movie that warrants a sequel. I doubt they'll ever make it, but I'd love it if they did.
I'd also like to take this moment to reiterate that anyone who doesn't like Pixar movies probably hates kittens and is definitely going to hell.

They could do an entire series for the Incredibles, Between the family, Frozone & the other super heroes there would be tons of possible stories to tell. And then what about the super villains, what were they doing all this time?
Well yeah, but I don't want to see the thing balloon into some kind of abomination of a franchise. I don't think Pixar is about that kind of thing. I don't want a television series. I just want another movie. Hell, maybe they could even make it a trilogy! But all things should stop at a certain point in my opinion, even superheroes.

Totally argee with you on that, Pixar has taken over 10 years to do 3 Toy Story movies and for some reason Cars is getting a sequel.

Cars does ridiculously well merchandising-wise, but they seem to be able to keep toys for it in stores just fine even though it came out years ago, so I'm guessing Cars 2 is mostly happening because John Lasseter wants it too. It's his baby and I know Pixar does a lot of short Cars films (most of which are much better than the movie).
More movies from Brad Bird, Andrew Stanton, and Pete Docter, please.

I hear that cars 2 is going to tie directly into all the shorts with some world race tour thingy which is how Mater got into all those wacky hijinx.

I wonder if the people at Pixar are unhappy with how the first Cars came out, especially since the shorts are so much better. It'd make sense that they'd want a second crack at it if that were the case. I don't think Cars is terrible, and I know lots of kids who loved it, but it's definitely not on par with the other Pixar stuff out there. It feels more like a Dreamworks movie.

I was afraid that Pixar was starting it's decline when I heard about Cars but it's good movie. Just not as good as Toy Story, Wall.E, & The Incredables.

How much was that aircraft carrier? The hull and top look like they're each 1 big part so even taken apart it's huge, could something that big be profitable even in the 80s toy era?
Imagine a star destroyer playset like that.

It was around 90 bucks when it came out. GI Joe was huge, and playsets were popular in action figure lines. It sold well enough for them to keep it in production two years.
With inflation, 90 bucks in 1985 = around 180 now. Fans keep asking Hasbro to reissue it, but selling something that pricey, and also large (stores like less space per product so as to have more shit represented) isn't really in the realm of possibility anymore.

Hasbro tried two 100 dollar toys in their action figure lines last year, Supreme Devastator and the G.I. Joe Pit playset, and as far as I know the sales were only so-so at best. I doubt they'd wanna push farther.
Complete Flaggs can go for crazy, crazy money. It's certainly a grail-status toy, but who the hell even has room for it, heh

Well, Hasbro still does make large stuff. I mean, extra large Dora the Explorer doll, Furreal Friends Butterscotch Pony... There is still a possibility there.

But Devastator was crap and that G.I. Joe thing looks like a boring brown card board box, The star wars at-te and huge Falcon could hardly be kept in stock in my stores sure there'd be 1 of 'em here or there but never a whole display like how they where when they first shipped.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy

Those other mainstream toys like the pony are outside of the action figure realm though
And yeah I don't follow Star Wars so much anymore but I recall seeing some of the larger vehicles at clearance, but that doesn't indicate much. People that use their personal sightings as a barometer for how toys are doing at large are a bit silly.

The company that makes the mightymates/cubericks things are relaunching Battle Beasts. IIRC Battle Beasts are originally part of the japanese transformers line but the series that they were in wasn't aired in America so they were sold as their own thing.

I see Captain Cold, Power Girl, Big Barda, Kid Flash, that lame blue lightning Superman, some other lighting themed guy in every store that carries the line. Everyone else gets bought up real fast like.
Is the Power Girl the one in the 75th anniversary packaging? That's part of a new re-release wave.
What's the other lightning themed guy look like?

Almost thought you meant Black Adam (another one I've never seen) because of his chest emblem but I guess you mean Firestorm:
He was in the second wave of the line in 08 or so and later put in one of the re-release waves. I bought that one since I never found the first one, it's a pretty good figure.
It had a variant that I naturally never found, of Jason Rusch:

Yeah the re-releases are easier to find, but of course they don't come with the collect/connect pieces to build the larger characters anymore, so the value isn't quite as good. The blue stands they come with instead aren't even very useful.
Since Power Girl is the new re-release assortment Ndi should be able to find one soon!
Firestorm was part of the Super Powers line in the 80s! So many memories. I had the Hall of Justice playset/carrying case :D
At this point, a vast majority of that line has a corresponding figure in DCUC. They even accounted for the different Parademon and Steppenwolf designs with their variants, very cool.

I have an early Superman from this line that came packed with a Clark Kent (who had a file folder as an accessory) that I got at Target for under $4. I also have the classic Joker and have mixed feelings about him, quality is above average and he came with a hammer, fish, cane, & cards but the re-used gentleman Ghost body has terrible hips and can't you can't get too many good poses acesory wise. I need a definitive Batman.

The black/grey Batman from DCUC is my favorite, followed by the all black one. The Public Enemies one exclusive to Target looks awesome too, but for some reason, that line uses bigger bodies than the regular figures, so he ends up kind of out of place.
I sadly don't have any of them :(

I think that they look pretty rad, but I hate that they aren't going to be sold individually. The set is way too Batman-heavy for me to want the whole thing. If they do wind up being sold individually at an okay price I'll probably try and get that Batman in the back though.
