Ok, let's try this again. Many of the threads in the dl section are getting derailed and clogged by enormous amounts of off-topic chatting, and in-fighting. So, this thread was created last year, at the mods request, to satisfy the desire to talk about scores, leaving the threads clear for actual dl links.

No real rules here, you can talk about anything, relevant or silly. It is the General Discussion forum, so links are not allowed. Per forum rules, fighting and flaming are discouraged. ALL out of line or aggressive posts will be reported, as will posts made to instigate said flaming on purpose. Keep it reasonably clean, and above all, fun, please.

yesterday I watched the first episode of 'The Pacific', being broadcasted in german TV now, instantly thought hey, music sounds nice, and was glad to see I already have it in my archive, but I cannot stop listening to king arthur yet :D

I am surprised that I tend to like this 'big' (and patriotic) music, but it makes me feel energetic.

People like Kaczmarek for example, or some of Yared, Portman, are much more soothing, love that too.

So.... just got the following...

GABRIEL YARED - TROY [REJECTED]

Finally got my hands on and while the CD looks somewhat questionable, the sound isn't bad. I'm on the fence about the score personally.

JOHN POWELL - KNIGHT AND DAY

http://www.hans-zimmer.com/~hybrid/powell/KADAY.JPG

Knight and Day being somewhat of a disappointed seeing as the film used bits of music from Christopher Beck's CONFIDENCE, a cue from THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 and music from PROJECT GOTAN which is exactly what the film score sounds like, trippy Tango Spanish Techno.

I will have to dl those, I have nevr seen the movie or heard the score. Sooo much music, so little time...

the movie is a dark one (at least Owen is the dark type in that, not the bad one, but the kind of 'dark' hero), and I specially love the suites from chief dundee too, 3 suites you can dl from his place...

really really love this.

yes, so much music, I know!

I love the soundtrack to The Pacific! Great series too!

The King Arthur (Recording Sessions), I don't think I've heard that one yet.
I have a 2-disc expanded score in lossless. Though, since I've gotten Adobe, I haven't really checked to see it's full spectrum. Will have to look into that...

i started THE PACIFIC but never finished it. quit after 2 episodes....

i guess BAND OF BROTHERS raised the bar too high.

as for TROY, the score was always on my radar as you can hear similarities between it and 300 [along with TITUS] but hear it stand alone it doesn't fully work for me and to be honest, it's not exactly ROUSING or melodic music.

i also wonder if this score was fully mixed as Yared intended it to be.

I liked it. The last few episodes were really good.
This series focuses more on the characters, in-depth.
It's also got a dark and grim viewpoint as well.
Watching the documentaries on the HBO website also add to the grim story-line.

The SFX are really good!

Band of Brothers is really awesome!! I'd start with that series first before watching The Pacific!

Then play some Medal of Honor afterward, lol.

The Pacific had a higher budget than BOB, much higher budget. I think they were talking about the highest budget for a tv series thus far, for HBO.

Hi, Babydoll and all the wonderfull people that have already posted on this thread. Finally a place where we can be silly without fear of persecution. As a suggestion, if any a**-holes come in here and start the type of low-grade personal attack that befell our Goddess (because you will always be our Goddes, even if you've removed it from your profile), do answer them. But instead of playing their sad little power games and mud slinging contests that makes anyone who responds just as bad as the original offender, just tell them something that makes sense to you but makes their tiny, minute brains explode. My favorite as of recently is "42". I've had people stop in mid sentence with that. Try it.

Oh, look at that, my first rant in this thread. LOL.

when was the last time anyone did a "light and fluffy" WWII movie, with grand musical numbers, and no blood bullet wounds that get shruggd off...??/ Ah, good times...

Not really about WWII but related. Steven Spielberg's "1941". Funny how the same man that directed this Laugh-Your-Ass-Off comedy ended up making "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan" and producing "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific". Speaking of "1941", is there any score released? I believe it's John Williams' work.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know about a Promo for Alan Silvestri's "Practical Magic"??
I have a single FLAC image file. The cue indicates that there are 36 tracks, all of them have no name.

Anyone know anything about it?
I've come across a few promos/bootlegs with no title tracks, so that's fine.
But has anyone ever seen/heard of a 36 track version?

Should I worry about it and sprinkle salt around it O_O

I just bought "little man tate" (Isham) and "war of the buttons" (Portman) second hand, first time for - waht - 3 years?

Hi Desert Rose, and everyone.

Nice place you've got here... so spacious.

I really liked both Band of Brothers, and the Pacific.

At the end of the last Pacific episode, where we read about what happened to all the characters after the war, there is a great 8 minute cue that is not on the released album. I'm guessing there'll be plenty of scope for an extended release some day.

both in lossy and lossless formats...
it will take awhile...4.4GB dvd's x (24+30+24 plus a shoe box full of CD-Rs of mp3/wav/flac/etc + retail CDs + CDRs of CDs....)
And it varies between Soundtracks (with Various Artists), Scores, trailer music, "regular music", audiobooks, instructional (languages), and opera/classical/musical...

So, with all that, I should have a list ready in about...years=3.14159265....

Heroes...couldn't get into that one really. The first few episodes did a lot of flashbacks that happened just 15 minutes ago (if you watch them back-to-back), so it felt like they were undermining my intellegense or something...

Im a old Whovian too, but this new stuff is wonderful.

I am afraid that is what I liked..... it seemed they really had a story to tell, and I was ready to listen! :D

I am a big fan of the series, but somehow I have never payed attention to the music... I should though, I guess :)

The Music goes very well with the series but as a stand alone listen it gets alittle tedious, its real good music but like I said ;)

Speed Racer and Star Trek are my favorites.

Meh, Universe left me cold. What I loved about SG1, and Atlantis, was the humor, and quirks...Universe is/was just bleak. It is like they wanted to reboot SG to be more like Battlestar, and for me, it's not a good fit. Still loving Eureka, though, and Haven. Not really happy with Warehouse 13 though.

yes eureka! battlestar, B5, Fringe, flash Forward, Bionic Woman, supernatural, I watched smallville, I liked charmed, x-files, lie to me, ghost whisperer, medium, not to start with medicine-related sreies or law-related ones...everything of star trek (of course), what was the name of this british series again, a kind of spin-off of dr. who, I cannot remember the name...

Haven I don't know....

Torchwood is the name you are thinking of. Haven is Syfy, and just new. Based on Stephen King's Colorado Kid....a small town in maine, strange and supernatural happenings, hunky deputy, female FBI agent....has potential, maybe.

As far as LOST goes, if you get a chance check out at least the last two tracks on Season 1, "Parting Words" and "Oceanic 815". If those don't make you feel emotion, you're not human. Probably works better if you've seen the show though...

If it was like Lost, i would be glad it was cancelled. It wasn't. And yeah, it has enough holes in its own logic, plotwise, to sink a battleship. But it was a good show and it should have been given a chance. Instead they kill it and let V go on? That makes the original look brilliant by comparisson. Geez.

So does anyone here like The Little Mermaid by Alan Menken & Howard Ashman?

I love the soundtrack. I'm interested in those that would like to hear some edits I threw together on the orchestra tracks. I had read that they sounded flat and I kind of agreed so I modified them.

If you would like the clips send me a PM and let me know what you think.

Lets talk about Elfman ;)

Have any particular "favorite" score by him?

My favs are "Black Beauty", "Hellboy 2", and "Alice in Wonderland"

After listening to that extended "Batman" I have to say its up there as well ;D

Aside from his Batman's, I've always enjoyed his work on Mission:Impossible and The Wolfman.

Although Wolfman wasn't completed due to him working on Alice in Wonderland.
That soundtrack was such a mess, you could even hear while watching the movie.

But I really liked the cues that sounded like Woljiech Kilar's cues from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I still like Beetlejuice a lot too, and parts of Planet of the Apes....guess I like his percussion stuff..

I liked POTA, the intro track had some really nice bass in it!

Too bad the movie didn't do so well in the box office. I thought it was a fun movie.

Too bad the movie didn't do so well in the box office. I thought it was a fun movie.

...and it set up the scene nicely for a sequel which would stick closely to Pierre Boulle's (?spelling?) original story...his apes didn't live in jungles...shame it never materialised...I hear yet another reboot is on the cards? Maybe it will go back to the source material finally, since the closest we have got so far was the damn cartoon series!!

Torchwood is the name you are thinking of.

....and Torchwood will be heading to your shores soon....Series 4 is to be (or maybe being?) filmed partly in the US after the destruction of Torchwood 3. New cast members (though the survivors from the UK series will all be present and correct too), new ideas, new places to film...series is in capable hands and looking forward to it over here... :)

Can I just make a couple of people jealous and say that if you watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special from 2 christmasses ago ("The Next Doctor"), much of it was filmed in Gloucester where I live, and yep - I toddled down there (10 minutes walk from where I live) to have a nose during filming (and got good views of a certain Mr Tennant among many others)...was all pretty cool :)

Nice thread ya got here babydoll!! Though your crisis over sorei is clearly noted and I clearly have work to do ;)

No problem my friend, we've all been there. I am not feeling all that spiffy myself, emotionally, or physically.

If you need to talk, feel free. A few minutes ago i got off the phone with a very special friend that gave me a little perspective on my own problems. Especially cause her sister ended up in the hospital after a severe epileptic attack, last night. She's in the ICU after a cardiac arrest. Knowing what she's going through made me realise my problem is relatively tiny. I mean, it doesn't hurt any less but there are things that are a lot worse.

i started THE PACIFIC but never finished it. quit after 2 episodes....

i guess BAND OF BROTHERS raised the bar too high.

as for TROY, the score was always on my radar as you can hear similarities between it and 300 [along with TITUS] but hear it stand alone it doesn't fully work for me and to be honest, it's not exactly ROUSING or melodic music.

i also wonder if this score was fully mixed as Yared intended it to be.

Yes, Band of Brothers raised the entire bar on how to present non-fictional stories of WWII or war in general. Looking forward to the Pacific though. DVDs are out in Nov. :)

I am ok, this is nothing new. Cerberus, the insulin is 100 dollars a bottle, I use three of one kind, and two of another. Sorry, but 500 a month just for that, testing strip and needles extra, then also the chloresterol meds....can't be done in my budget, just can't....
The US system for healthcare - pardon me - seems to suck to high heaven. Move to the UK - you'd get all this for free (for the rest of your life), and save the the plane fare back in about 3 months...crazy, isn't it?

Among all the s**t-slinging that goes on about services in the UK, the National Health Service is the jewel in the crown of public facilities....if I break a leg, I get a free ambulance ride with free care, get seen at Emergency dept for free, get given free medication and stay in hospital as long as I need. Free. Extraordinary service. I have a friend locally who fell seriously ill whilst on holiday (in Phoenix, Arizona, funnily enough, which was quite lucky since the most advanced experts and treatment in the world in the condition she fell ill with are in Phoenix) - because they are a UK citizen and tax payer, the treatment and care they needed - bearing in mind it was for well over a month - was free. On the flipside, I know of someone who lives in the US who went through the pain of watching his partner die over the course of several months - and naturally, amongst all the condolensce cards and letters, was the bill for thousands of dollars for the care and treatment - right down to a short ambulance journey...this is so alien to us in the UK as to almost seem barbaric.

We in the UK can CHOOSE to go "private" - that is, pay all that money for helathcare that is supposedly better and quicker - but the reality is that that such private healthcare has no evidence whatsoever to support it being any better than the free stuff - apart from your waiting time to be seen might be a little shorter.

Just to clarify my recent posts in the download link thread...

I did not mean the lack of VS posting was killing the thread rather it was the incessant whining and insulting of other people as they did especially in the beginning of the scare. I know most of U did not take part in it but it turned me off to that thread days at a time. Communities should be about friendlies. Most of us, especially those who are older in life, deal with too much s**t on a daily basis. Some of us have extreme financial difficulties, have medical issues, deal with depression and some have to deal with severe family matters 24-7! We use this community to escape, even if its just a little while, these trials while downloading & discussing good music. I dont think insults should ever be tolerated in forums such as this! For any reason!

Babydoll, I use Firefox and I have 15 to 20 tabs opened at a time. The browser is always active. The computer is rebooted once every month. I also minimize the window. So like U my profile shows i am always active but am I viewing the thread 24-7? HELL NO! im not even home most of the time! U obviously are dealing with more serious issues than to concern yourself about some flamers! Stay Strong, Babygirl!

For yourself and your husband!

Oh, that sucks. 500 bucks just for meds? Wow, things on my country are crapy (healthcare wise... and not only) but from what i know insuline users don't pay such values, part is paid (subsidised) by the system. It's a sad state of things when people can't get the care they need because of money. Damned green pieces of paper.

Emotionally...meh. That comes and goes. Summers are my worst, I do not like hot, dry sunny weather, and miss the rain, and change of seasons. I am not perky, and still feel odd about the crap the other day, but it will be fine. Just moody sometimes.

Oh, Goddess, get over that. If you allow a piece of $#%t like that @$s-h#&e Abba-crap-don get to you, you'll just be playing his game. He's a pathetic sad excuse for a human being that gets his kicks from saying how good he is and how crappy everyone is by comparison to his own magnificience. Ignore him. I'm a self deprecating, ugly, fat, nervous, geeky, little bastard and i met his type before. Before i let them get to me. But then i realised how pissed off they got when i didn't. And guess what, they started shuting-the-hell-up. The only opinions that count are your own and those of the people you care about. And yeah, heat sucks. I hate being wet all the time, hate it.

Here in Portugal we have free or almost free healthcare. But it can't be compared to the UK's quality wise. If you want good care here, and can afford it, private is the way to go, if you want treatment before you...well, you know, die.

Not having conversations there saddened me, and I needed to think about what I wanted to get from this site. I also don't feel comfy in the limelight, and was not sure I wanted to be the one to start a new thread, so it was a matter of taking the time to think on it. Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman!!! The anime that started my love affair ever since! You must see Gatchaman the way it was originally intended. You will see, even though it was loved, how Sandy Frank KILLED this show with Battle of the Planets! The only thing they did right was keep most of the themes by Bob Sakuma! im also dying to see Gatchaman II and Gatchaman Fighter. the dvds are out in Japan but probably will never see a translation here. :(

I've seen about a third of them as Gatchaman, which I do prefer. Funds have made it difficult to acquire the rest. I do have a bunch of the music though. Still remember seeing to this day. It was just so much better than the American cartoons of it's time, or even later...

Yes I know what U mean. I had to wait till my anime suppliers brought the price down to $8 a box set. then I was able to finish. I believe that company is bankrupt now so any Gatchaman will be hard to find. On the other hand Starblazers was a more faithful translation to the original Uchuu Senkan Yamato. Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman were 1 episode story arcs for the most part while Starblazers/Yamato were serialized like a soap opera.

I was actually considering starting the thread, myself. Just to help aleviate all the tension.
It seems that a lot of threads with download links are veering away from sharing posts/requests and heavily focusing on topics that are somewhat related.
It's a natural progression. But, it's also very off-topic. This thread is a good idea, though it seems like it can never be mentioned too much on the download link thread.
All it takes there is for one request for a dvd-rip then pages go by talking about dvd-rips.

The admins have a point about creating this thread. Job well done! :D

I wish i was as much of a genious as Tochiro. No one gives 2 cents for him and he's the greatest mechanical genious to have ever lived. But he is the perfect example of what happens in our society these days. Good looks are praised over brains and heart. Not saying pretty people are evil, but they have it good. I like good looking women but i'd take an inteligent woman with a good heart over a beautiful one without any day. But todays society is so focused in looks that people like me are simply ignored. I've had a girlfriend dump me for some pretty boy that treated her like crap. WTF? Am i ranting again?!! Sorry.

As for the Harlock CGI movie, i'm hopefull but the 2 designs i saw didn't quite make it for me. Hope they get the look right. My favorite Harlock was The Endless Odissey, wich many people hated. I mean the story is a bit weird but i think Harlock was at his best. And animation wise it was a treat.

As for Yamato Rebirth, i got the movie, i'm only missing the subs. But even without them... WOW. This is beautiful. But i still prefer the PS2 movies character designs. Look at my avatar, he was taken from the last PS2 game and the animation there was just sublime. Still, Yamato has been reborn, let us rejoice.

If you knew me from a few years back some on the FSM board gave me the rep of loving everything, my nick name is moonie, and they said oh moonie loves everything.
So I felt that no one took me serious about scores.

you could call me that when it comes to tv series I am afraid, there's far too much I like ;)

I have a big heart with plenty of space for everyone ;) ...well, SORT of everyone ;)

@babydoll

lots of people just hop in for a quicky, they want their requests filled, filled at once, and reading, scrolling and searching tikes time.

Maybe that is why some of us find more stuff, we actually read the posts...

Edit:
Just call me invisi girl.....

I can upload the theme to electra woman and dynagirl...sung by Cyindi Lauper, honest to Goddess....:D

omnipresent but invisible, now if that doesn't suit a goddess I don't know, that has Q-Quality ;)

well, there MIGHT be a connection between reading posts and finding links, I will not argue with this! *lol*

(it is amazing though how much time passes while doing this!)

Hell yes....

Muuuuule's method for perfect pasta.

Use dried pasta - still great taste (though fresh obviously better still). Does not matter about brand - pretty much all the same whethert it costs pennies or pounds.

1) Boil large pan of water.

2) When it comes to the boil - add one level teaspoon of salt for each portion you are cooking (e.g. if you are cooking for 2 people at the same time, add 2 teaspoons etc) and 1 desert spoon of Olive Oil (for best taste, but if you don't have any then sunflower oil is ok too) - because it's oil, this stops the water boiling quicker than you might think, so bring to the boil again.

3) When boiling, add pasta as required and stir immediately. The Pasta will cool the water slightly, so bring back to the boil.

4) When boiling, turn heat under pan down so that the water is only just simmering - start your timer. No need to stir the pasta again - leave it well alone.

5) If you like your pasta al dente, 6-7 minutes is just fine. If you like it a little softer, leave it in longer but absolutely no longer than 10 minutes, despite what the packet says.

6) Drain and serve immediately.

Perfect pasta....every time.

Muuuuule

Yea, I was making pasta earlier, just browsing while the water boils, boiled it all out of the pan...twice!!

I bought one of those small digital timers from the dollar store to keep track of things. handy for cooking and laundry while im browsing....

....though, it only works if you set the timer.... >.>

So - you are being sent to a island for the next year. There is only food and water there, and the only thing you are allowed to take is an MP3 Player loaded with 5 albums (not just movie scores - anything). They have to be commercially available albums (though oop ones are permitted). Double-CD sets count as one album. No sets of more than 2 CD's are permitted.

Which 5 albums do you choose to go on your MP3 Player?

- Cutthroat Island (Debney)
- Mission Impossible 3 (Giacchino)
- Black Beauty (Elfman)
- Pirates 2 (Zimmer)
- Forbidden Kingdom (Buckley)

:D

By the way - totally off topic, but I just saw Blade Trinity and god damn that was badass. I didn't like the first two at all but this was pretty balls to the wall action - mindless action have you, but epic all the same ;)

I like Jan AP Kaczmarek's Lost Souls. Some nice themes and choir in there, almost like a new age The Omen (before Betrami ruined >_<)

beware, you might be adding to my luggage!

I am listening to 'winter guest' by Kamen at the moment (and instantly fell in love with: my name is Elspeth) , and after that I will have a listen to 'lost souls' (which I have but, along with so many others, did not listen yet...)

I love his 'Hachiko' as well :)

Almost impossible to do. but...

Star Trek II - James Horner
Braveheart - James Horner
Titanic - James Horner
ET: The Extra Terrestrial - John Williams
Reign in Blood - Slayer...to satisfy my daily urge to play air guitar.

But...

If the island had a Baseball field... The Natural - Randy Newman

If the island was all native chicks... Double Platinum - Kiss

...So I can teach all the girls "Lick it Up" ;)

I must be bored, answering to every post :P BUT i like movie reviews like yours: Now look what i've found in the net, hahaha:

D-War

"[...] Is this film awful? Absolutely. Incomprehensible? Sure. But I'll guarantee that if you choose not to take it as seriously as the producer did, everything in Dragon Wars will make perfect sense -- even if you have no idea what the hell is going on. A movie without a single redeeming quality that we highly recommend."

Anybody can post something like this too?

Thats interesting...but nothing can beat the shellacking critics put "The Last Airbender" through. Movie is making money though.

that will be the next one on my list, 'lost souls' playing now.

I like some tracks of lost souls a lot, but not all of the album, 'winter guest' I loved the whole album...
