And another thing. I was answering a request for STMP, and found that a) the google search doesn't turn up any of the Trek specific threads, and b) the putting Star Trek into the forum search engine produces NO results. That seems unlikely.

well, ok. had a lot of tests and poking and prodding done testerday. Passed all, so I can have the surgery, the doc's assistant will schedule the date and let me know. On the bright side, I have proof that I do indeed have a heart, and it is in good shape.....

which will help you to get through this, too.

Glad to hear about that Babydoll!

Yeah, it's kinda slow season right now, I've noticed.
It's like a fluctuation or something. One of the other forums I go to, we're doing a word game with movies...
Like the alphabet, name movies that start with A, then B, then C, and see how far we can go.
But they limited themselves to North American box office movies, which limits them in the hard to name letters, X, Y, Z.

I think a more dynamic game would be "first and last letter"... like I say "Amadeus", then someone would say a movie that starts with "S", an do so forth.
And foreign movies are welcome, english translations or original language with english translation. Like Akira Kurosawa movies! or the Hayao Miyazaki animations! or even the Zhang Yimou movies! or Jet Li! Jackie Chan! Godzilla!!!

would anyone want to play either version???

first and last letter? you say xanadu (which you wouldn't *lol*) and I say U-Turn? I know this with song-titles... why not movie titles?? I'd be at a loss totally when it comes to asian movies, but hey, earth is big (and universe is even more, star trek and so on)

Err, I CAN say that I am really, really freaking out. I can tolerate the pain, I don't need no surgery...really. Please?

I had a chat with my wife before answering to get her input. (Oddly enough September 9th is her next chemo appointment. Go figure.)
As a guess, I'd say you're freaking out because you got The Talk. The pre-surgery talk where they cover everything that can go wrong and all the complications that might happen afterwords. They have to have this talk to cover their own asses in light of litigation. I've sat through the one for her second surgery, and I had to leave the room and get some air. I was humiliated, but she said it was okay; she'd freaked out for the first surgery, and now she was ready for it.
Surgery blows. Post-op blows. Recovery blows. Chemo blows. Cancer in general, totally blows.

You know what blows more? DYING OF CANCER. Cancer is not a Nicholas Sparks movie. It is not romantic. This week marked the passing of the astonishingly talented anime director Satoshi Kon. He was only 46. You know what he died of? Untreated pancreatic cancer.

Please understand I am saying this with the best intentions and sympathy:
Suck it up Soldier! Get the fucking surgery.
It's okay to be afraid. It's okay to freak out. These are normal responses. It's not okay to let your fear kill you.

Could someone please explain this new "rep system"?

Look here for clarification...
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f2/lets-give-some-reputation-points-79040/#post1529287

Basically it's a way of letting others know you appreciate their post whether it's a download or just a post that you enjoyed. The more points you receive the more of those little green rectangles will appear below your custom title.

you were quicker than me. I was just searching for this thread. :)

@GeoScore

I kind of like the idea, although I think the limitation of just 5 times giving rep per day is something I do not like so much.

It is an addition to the usual way of saying thanks, and sometimes I don't want to leave an open 'thanks', just a quick rep. ;)

And I rep a nice answer or good explanation of something just as well. :)

when was the last time anyone did a "light and fluffy" WWII movie, with grand musical numbers, and no blood bullet wounds that get shruggd off...??/ Ah, good times...

Okay I know I'm a *tad* late responding to this post ;) But I just discovered this thread (all by myself, with noooooo help from babydoll... I'm lying. babydoll showed me the way. I never would've made it through this hellhole warzone without her! No, FFShrine isn't that bad, I'm kidding, please don't ban me! ;))

I'm so glad to see someone else misses those great old movies, especially musicals! I've loved them since I was a child. I *hate* the obsession with "realism" in most modern movies these days. Of course all the good things in real life don't count, and they have to focus on the most horrible things people are capable of doing... ugh. I download/buy lots of film scores for movies I have no interest in seeing (I'm sure I'm not alone there) ...it's not that I can't handle anything depressing (although I really never outgrew my "childish" desire for a happy ending and I don't see why I should!) but I hate fatalistic edgy-for-the-sake-of-being-edgy stuff. Why do movies *have* to be realistic anyway? Why not idealistic, trying to give us hope/make the world a better place?

Can you tell I also grew up watching a lot of Disney and Frank Capra films? :P Which don't shy away from life's challenges and darker moments...but, yes, have uplifting endings. We NEED that to help us get through the crap life throws at us. Remember watching a movie and at the end of it you'd feel this joyful energy, and think that life/the human race isn't so bad after all? It's been awhile, but I remember.

Going off-topic I guess...hopefully allowed in this thread though! Also getting corny and sentimental, but then it *is* past 6am so I'm giddy and whatamIdoingstillup! G'night everybody!

(I should probably skip to the last page of this thread when I return, or I'll keep reading and responding to ancient posts and always be miles behind the current conversation... hmm that would be kinda like me communicating with you from the past...like time travel! Cool. But annoying to everyone in the future, I'm sure. :))

Good luck, get some rest, and feel free to push the morphine button when you need it.

Good to hear things are going well. Glad you had lotsa music too!
I honestly don't know how my day would go without music. D:
If I go one day without music, I lose track and get my days mixed up!
The other week I spent Monday thinking it was Sunday!!! D:
Also because they didn't air the season finale for True Blood (just this past Sunday they did), so that also threw off my week!
I don't know why, but it doesn't feel like the week has started unless I hear "Bad Things" at least once.

But, now that the show's over, I can start my weeks with DEXTER'S THEME XD
Dexter's the one show I can not miss!
I'm just waiting to get paid from work then decide whether I want an external HDD or get season 3 of Dexter on DVD... ?_?

Othe Side of The Mountain - very beautiful:

PART ONE (by Charles Fox):
PART TWO (by Lee Holdridge):

Part 1, part 2, the movie is split? thanks a lot :) Or have 2 composers worked together? Or is it rejected and official?

I love Holdridge's score to the 1974 TV flick SKYWAY TO DEATH - great dramatic music, still unreleased after so many years.

By the way: watched MARY & MAX and liked the score, so I contacted the composer for the missing tracks on the soundtrack CD, but didn't get an answer yet. In the worst case, I might try to extract the cues from the Bluray. However, I got excited and began to create some artworks for it.

I use this to show appreciation. Sometimes I leave no reply, just rep. I don't have a clue how much I can give, but I have the feeling I cannot rep a lot.

The System is new for everyone, even for the people who have more than 5000 posts, everybody starts from zero.

I like the idea I can do more than 'just' leave a thanks Which does not mean I understimate a thanks or do not appreciate!
But I like the idea there are several ways to appreciate a music post or simply a nice reply or an interesting info :)

I just finished watching The Last Airbender!!
God I love the music!!
the acting was terrible, the waterbenders exhale every syllable so it sounds really weird.
the firebenders though, they were terrific! Commander Zhao was my favorite! They didn't play him out like a dunce like they did in the tv series.
The earthbenders :|

Although I strongly feel that most of the actors couldn't keep up with the action music, the last battle scene was much improved compared to their earlier fighting skills. Then again, all the slow motion really helps out.

Most of the time I watch the movie first and then decide if I want the soundtrack, but there have been a few exceptions where I got the soundtrack and didn't bother with the movie. Example: the score for "Angels & Demons," because I love Zimmer and I knew his work would be as good as it was for "The DaVinci Code." Also, I have a short list of favorite composers and I sometimes listen to their earlier works for movies I haven't seen (or may never see), like 1972's "Cosa Avete Fatto A Solange? (What Have They Done to Solange?)" by Morricone. *whips off soundtrack nerd glasses* ;)

I think all this hate on the download links always brings way too much drama than needed.
Honestly, I think if people just ignore the original hate post and move on, there'll be a lot less drama and lot more posts of download links in between.

Truthfully, you don't have to have your say in the matter and you have nothing to defend.

I really don't care what kind of person you are, but when one person hates the hater, then everyone else wants their say.
2 pages go by and it's all the same, "he's a jerk" "you're a jerk" "no, you're a jerk"....
I feel like I'm watching South Park
http://www.smogon.com/forums/customavatars/avatar1830_6.gif

It's nice you want to show support and defend others, but it's really not appropriate.
1) it only provokes the original hater
2) you become no different, just that you have a better cause
3) it clogs the download section with no downloads
4) it will only make others feel that they can add more because you did, your actions justifies theirs and 10 others
5) and once people agree to stop it altogether, there's always people who haven't logged in for a week or so and see all this hate then start it up again and use the excuse "i wasn't here for the initial hating so I'm making up for it now"
6) it can all be directed here instead of the download/now-discussion thread....

seriously, the adminds/mods have killed so many movie soundtrack sections because haters are being hated by other haters
I haven't really seen any drama in the video game section, mostly about ripping music and the settings for EAC.

I don't know why people take their movie soundtracks so seriously. The movie mega-thread has more "remakes" than the Robin Hood movies... o.O
I really don't think anyone has learned from the first million threads that admins/mods have warned us.
And I really don't think we should be given another mega-thread like this again.

The largest issue is the discussions, I see so much of it, it's a headache when it's not entirely related and get's dragged on for pages.

Yes, it can be a friendly place, and we can all get along and share wonderful music, but that shouldn't distract from forum rules that are stated everywhere, especially when adminds/mods come in and personally remind us. I think everyone gets too caught up on warm fuzzy friendliness that they forget the rules and think they can be tentative because of the warm fuzzy atmosphere. Cute puppy eyes don't win over rules.

[Jigsaw pic to be added later: "Don't forget the rules"]

it's not enough for me to leave this site.
but i will laugh if something happens to the mega-thread again... :}

Sorry I was gone. Got pancreatitus again, and they decided on a new treatment. They put two big catheters in my neck, down into a blood vessel near my heart. Then using a dialysis machine, they pumped out my blood, and separated the plasma, then pumped the blood and plasma replacement back into me to filter out the lipids. This brought my lipid count from a little over 8,000 down to just under 260. So hopefully, that will help prevent futrther relapses.

That sounds like a horrific experience, Babydoll. Thank goodness you came out of it okay (enough to give us an update, I mean).

Hey, I've never posted under this thread before, but I have a lot under the Film Score Hunt thread. I've uploaded several of my own expanded and complete scores--and they all have their own threads. Some of my scores have been downloaded quite a lot, but barely anyone ever posts anything under my threads. Most people don't know how much time I spend on perfecting those scores: getting to know all the cues and how they might evolve throughout the movie, seeing how they get used in the movie, and everything else. I had been expecting people to discuss the themes and patterns found in these scores, but perhaps my expectations were too high.

Most of the posts under my threads are things like: "hey, great!" and "Can't wait to listen to this" and "Thanks!". So if anyone here has downloaded one of my scores, or might now be interested in seeing what I have, you are very welcome to come and post any questions or comments under my thread. I made that clear in ALL the threads I've started.

And I am very sorry if this was an inappropriate post for this thread.

yeah, it's not too common for people to talk about the music, for the most part.

And speaking of soundtracks and how they're made.
I quite like the scheme for the Kick-Ass score.
I like the remix from the Sunshine soundtrack, but I'm not a big fan of the track used for the Ambush at the Hideout. Those strings sound way too much like The Dark Knight's theme for the Joker.
The rest of the score is interesting. I like the various themes in it for the characters. I really love the vocals in there too, the really mellowdramatic undertones just really captures my imagination.

Here's a video edit of the Kick-Ass score mixed with a video scene from Batman: Under the Red Hood...

I had this question for Babydoll -- more of a technical issue but maybe someone knows the answer,
She mentioned in the Music of DC Comics thread that she converted the original ogg files to mp3. How do you do this? I have just downloaded a folder of ogg music files and would like to convert them to mp3 -- I have Audacity, can I use that to do it? I'm pretty new (obviously) at doing this sort of thing and am having a hard time finding answers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! The whole lossless thing is just a pain. I mean, I get it I just don't need that sort of sound quality for my freakin mp3 player on the bus, y'know?

Hi :) Babydoll cannot be online at the moment, and I am not a tech savvy, but: foobar for example is freeware (as far as I know) and you can convert with it. Or dbpoweramp music converter (which you can go on using after trial time).

I am sorry I do not know audacity....
And I can well understand you have a hard time finding answers, welcome to the club (getting answers is one thing, understanding them is another yet *lol*)

Well, I just finished every Halloween film and I now believe that Rob Zombies reimagining of the original is the superior film, and thats coming from a Halloween JUNKIE! I own a Michael Myers Don Post Latex Mask and I have an action figure of Michael Myers on my desk at work.

PS-missed all the drama again. but im more pissed at missing the Boobs!!!

Assuming is a bad thing to do, no matter what the subject material is. I've seen all the Halloween movies, and Rob Zombie's are fantastic films, both as Halloween installments and in their own right. He gets a lot of heat for his sequel "Halloween II", but I'm glad he had the balls to do something different: make it more about characters and less about senseless killing. Is his movie "better" than the original? No, but I think they are both standalone in their ways. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

I agree Cerberus, in fact I was going to say something similar. I still have not seen Halloween II thanks to that fucking redbox kiosk putting all of my local rental stores out of business. I have been a fan of Rob's music for some time but I was never a fan of his first film House Of 1000 Corpses...it was so silly that I simply could not get through it. But The Devils Rejects & Halloween were superbly crafted and I believe will stand the test of time. I recently found out that he also had a hand in the Grindhouse double feature an I look forward to his upcoming film Werewolf Women of the S.S. ...yes it really is in production!

I loved Tyler Mane's performance as Michael Myers in Zombie's film. By his movements & his head positioning U can tell exactly what he was thinking even though he had a mask on but still maintained that stealth quality. Also when U think of Michael Myers as THE unstoppable force, Mane has the best physique for the part.

Yeah "House of 1,000 Corpses" borders on the absurd, but I still like it for what it is. "Devil's Rejects" is absolutely his best original material, but I love both "Halloween" films too. I hadn't heard that about "Werewolf Women", but he is supposedly writing/directing an upcoming film titled "Lords of Salem".

And yes, Tyler Mane has probably been my favorite Michael Myers to date. In the documentary about the movie he discusses how he wanted to inject some human emotion into the character and how that's a challenge given you never see his face, but I think he passed with flying colors personally.

P.S. Did anyone check out "The Walking Dead" Sunday night? I thought it was great!! It's a little early to be talking about the score, and they almost never release TV scores, but it would be nice to listen to for certain.

Yeah, I saw it and the preview of the upcoming season...looks promising. I cannot speak to whether it's a faithful translation of the comic because I've never read it but I do like the main character and the FX are a nice mix of prosthetic & CGI...looking forward to further installments. Regarding the score it's good and atmospheric but I wouldn't give up on a CD release just yet. Look at Caprica, a show that has poor numbers but had a CD release during it's first season.

I'm currently working on making a release of "The Kick" music. The Edith Piaf song used in Inception.
It will be slowed down to resemble the dream states like in the movie.
There will be various slowed down versions, ranging from 2x slow, 4x, and 10x.
Also different remixes too (and one techno remix lol).

Here's one track I've uploaded to YouTube, for a short promo.

Yes! Bear McReary has been added to me collection. As well as much more Carter Burwell, James Horner, and many more!

PS: In loving memory Basil Poledouris today! He's such a wonderful artist!

I remember first memorizing that name after watching Les Miserables, with Liam Neeson.
I loved the main theme so much for that movie, I tried to go buy the soundtrack but couldn't find it anywhere.
And I knew little of internet back then.
I remember watching Conan and Hunt For Red October, but never thought about music back then.

The only prominent names for me back then were John Williams and Danny Elfman.
Today, I still listen to Danny Eflman, Williams has lost it I felt. War of the Worlds was okay, Indian Jones and the Crystal Skull was only good for the few action tracks it had.
I liked him so much more when he did Jurassic Park.

Poledouris, I'm growing my collection of his work, it really rings my ears with satisfaction. Starship Troopers was a really entertaining.
I also like his daughter's work, not just the work she did in Conan, but also the other stuff on Starship Troopers!
There's 2 tracks I believe. Hard to find one of them in lossless.
I got them in mp3 somewhere, that was the first time I heard of Zoe Poledouris.

Sad that he died on this day. It's also my birfday lol, it's a time to be happy and sad at the same time :)
:(

But he's done such wonderous work!
RIP Basil Poledouris!

It's pretty damn funny that everyone here is all "ZOMG that shouldn't be posted yet, it iz 2 soon!" vis-a-vis CDs from certain labels. It's like the assumption is that, record labels being the completely rational and logical vulcan-minded entities they are, would act sane IF ONLY we wouldn't "pirate" their albums right out of the gates.

Of course, it's all bollocks. The second the P2P witch hunt is truly over, they'll bring the glorious hammer of corporatism down on this site and any others like it (who already getting sporadic media attention, by the way....) and pound it so hard into the ground it'll start spontaneous fission.

In other words-

A. You can try to make everyone happy. In which case FFS will still eventually attract ten distinct kinds of hell from some douche bag music label's legal department, even though you've tried to wrangle the file swapping somewhat.

B. You can can say "fuck off" to the labels and (predictably) end up getting paid a visit from The Law Firm of Lucifer, Beelzebub & Legion. Except, because you didn't even entertain the notion of staunching the flow of music, everyone got a hell of a lot more.

C. The clear choice is 'B'. If you're damned if you do, full stop, no exceptions, then everyone might as well fill 'er up their hard drives. The only alternative I can see is just to stop all non-VG/Anime music sharing.

This site doesn't enfore "coding the download links" like other sites will. The other sites are well known, but mostly from people naming names.
Coded links help fight off google bots from seeing the many download links here. Among other uses. That's why it's a strict rule for other sites.
I believe Abaddon mentioned it before.
I always code my links, and remove any of the [url] tags.

I also see a lot of "links are temporarily down" messages. Usually from the links being posted on several forums, and not being re-uploaded for fresh links.
Links that are continually accessed by users from many forums, and bots as well, will cause downloading problems.
Konio will upload the same content to new servers, which will cause greater ease of downloading.

I think if all these were practiced more often, there'd be less problems with downloading and less hardship from random people who can freely see everything that FFS does regularly.

js.

and I think it's just stupid for everyone to ask for the film section to shut down.
I think the clearer choice is to leave FFS or not even bother with the sections you don't want to see stemming from drama.
I don't see why the entire place needs to shutdown. Honestly, most of these limits here...there's nothing worth while anyhow.
Ron Jones? I'm not interested in that much star trek music, especially from a television production-standpoint.
I much prefer the soundtracks to the movies, they're shorter. Much, much shorter.

Eurysilas
11-10-2010, 03:09 AM
....I haven't asked for the film section to be shut down. I was presenting it as a last resort, really. But, yes, we need to make everything on FFS opaque to Google, save the fact it exists. This way FFS is accessible from a search engine, but it isn't all hung out there.

I think the most people will have against posting it is if you post it in lossless format.
I think everyone will be less... iunno... apprehensive if you post it in mp3.
Take the star trek music, if I remember, the flac links were taken down, but the mp3 links were stayed by the hands of the admins/mods.
And also since something about one of the conan's previously being released by VS, the Prometheus version will likely contain music that's in the VS release.
So, not only do you have to limit it to mp3, but also remove anything that was in the VS release, and only releasing music cues not found in any VS release.

But, even with mp3/removed VS material, I think since's from a company that's not so grand or well established and only does limited music, no one wants to see it posted. here especially, since these small companies limit themselves.

true, it's on other forums, and quite possibly torrents by now, or will be very shortly.
but it's just a matter of posting it here.
I'd stick to PM's, like that one Conan thread suggests, the one with *all* the releases of conan music.

Leon Scott Kennedy

Sparktank, coding the links here on the Shrine doesn't help, actually, it works against the forum's safety from a certain point of view. You see, when you post something with the URL tag a non-logged-in member sees a "Hidden Link, register to view links" message, when you code the link it becomes viewable by EVERYONE... Therefore, it could be reported more easily.

So, the premium for medicare part D will be around 40 dollars a month just for me. But, having it means getting meds, both for the diabetes and this fricking depression. My IE access is around 50 a month. So I am thinking, that starting in January, I am going to remove the Internet services from my cable bill. This will allow me to pay the health premiums without actually impacting the current finances, if that makes sense. I an still accesss the site from the library, or the communal PC from here. I just will not be able to up or download any music. But, Health first, I suppose. This constant in and out of the hospital thing is killing me, and my mood, and several friendships. So, the responsible thing is to get the meds first. If things look up, I can always add the IE back on, maybe at a slower rate. Just letting everyone know. As I said, I will still be able to read and respond to friends on here, but anyone who wants an e-mail exchange also, please let me know. The 3&4 were still funny. But it feels more like when Katie Holmes didn't continue her role for Rachel Dawes in the Dark Knight... :/

Had they broke off on a tangent and started a new line of Movie-themed titles, I think they would've been able to do more.
It's like Family Guy going off on a tangent and doing American Dad.
But 3rd generation is a no-no.... I mean... look at The Cleveland Show.... :|

RIP Leslie Nielson
