Who loves Hans Zimmer's "Inception" soundtrack??
Who's watched the movie?

Just found this amazing video that compares Edith Piaf to first track on the Inception soundtrack!!! Blew my mind away!!!

cant say i liked INCEPTION... the score is OK and the film left me... ehh.

the heist and actual inception was cool but the wife stuff didn't connect with me.

Eames and Arthur though made a cute couple

I love the soundtrack! Always been an HZ fan. I like his Dan Brown soundtracks a lot.
A&D the most. 160 BPM!

i tend to avoid Zimmer's work mainly because of his style of WRITE THE MAIN THEMES and then his protege's write the filler.

then ofcourse, their work sounds similar to his and SOME of them branch out and find their own sound [Gregson-Williams and Powell] while others sound like clones [Djwadi]

yeah, media ventures is full of the same work.
I like Powell out the bunch. Jablonsky has some hits and misses.
The Island and the first Transformers were his best.
His horror genres are deeply needing improvement.
I think his best horror soundtracks were Texas Chainsaw: The Begining & Nightmare on Elm Street. Though ANOES could've used a little more of the traditional theme in it, even as an homage.
But for the most part, it has a nice atmosphere. A few thrilling themes to remember "It's hot in here", but mostly just atmosphere. Nice ambiance to have in the background for doing stuffs.

It kinda does suck that he does the core of the music and then goes off to do something else to let everyone else build around it.

Djwadi did okay for Clash. I liked the main theme for that movie, and some of the darker atmospheres of Djinn and Medusa. The mood and soundscape is what really attracts me to the Media Ventures work.

I consider myself to be a fan as well. Although not all of his stuff is *mine*, but yes, the dan brown ones, specially "dies mercurii I Martius"...

Although my 2 favorites are (I admit it) MI2 and King Arthur.

I loved "Beyond Rangoon" too though. (For my ears not that "zimmerish", but lovely)

Isham has done an awful lot, and I start thinking I like a lot of his work. Not only 2 or 3 scores. Like Kacmarek and Portman. Theirs is - for my taste - a steady and reliable yes, maybe Doyle too.

I still have to look deeper in Yared and Nyman (which will take months, I tend to listen to something I know and love, and in between something I don't know)

Jablonsky , yes, transformers, haven't heard anything from him that comes close...

I haven't seen Inception either, but I will, might take a little while though.

..I have lots of Horner I have never listened to, or seen the movie for, but I just have to have it all...

Hmmm, wonder what that says about me?

welcome to the club :D

QUESTION:

....what are your *constant* loves (like babydolls Horner), names you tend to 'take' without knowing what's going to come, and what are your *one-score-loves*?

One score loves for me seem to be 'into the west' - Zanelli for example.

Or 'Let the right one in' - Sderquist

I was never one to like music just because it's composed or sung or played by this or that artist. If i listen to a music that makes me feel something i don't care who's done it. I like music for itself. Sure, some composers do deliver the goods more often than others but i won't like this or that score just because it's A or B's work. I don't care if Media Ventures sound all the same, if i like it, i like it. If not... next. So, James Horner keeps repeating the same score... who cares? Someone once said that everything that can be created, has been created in one form or another. Nothing is original anymore. All that's left is to re-interpret the same stuff and try to make the same thing sound different...

Meds kick in. Rant over.

agreed. I don't care if it is repeating, some poeple call that style ;)

I don't like it because it is a specific name, but because I found that the style of this composer is appealing to me.

:)

Not because of "Label hunting" or something like that....

I do notice i like a score a lot more after i've seen the movie, especially if i like the movie. I review the whole scene in my head, you know? It's one of the few things that can bring me to the edge of actual tears is when the 2 compliment each other. Example, there's a scene in "Princess Mononoke" that everytime i see it does that to me, when San is fighting Lady Eboshi and Ashitaka, fueled by the demon power just rises and walks up to them and break them up, the scene, the gorgeous animation and "The Young Man From The East" starts playing... goosebumps, every single time. Most recently, the Autobots arrival scene in Transformers. Man, that scene doesn't get old, especially the little girl in the pool talking to Ironhide... how Spielberg is that??!! Does anyone else feel these thing or am i just crazy???

No, i agree, i don't need to see the movie to love its score. What happens is when a score doesn't really ressonate with me, if i watch the movie and like it, when i give the score another listen, it somehow changes, as if now that i know the context of a cue in the movie, it makes more sense.

crazy indeed, but we allll need to be a little crazy :}
I love those battle drums that play over the army of hogs, preparing for battle. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE percussion!!

"Arrival to Earth" is just so beautiful, if I lost the entire soundtrack and had to choose one song to recover, it would be that one!!

And it's not always a combination of both. I can listen to score and see the movie, if I watched it.

I actually like listening to scores before seeing the movie. It builds my imagination. And then when I watch the movie, I'm like "hey! that's track so-and-so!"

Some movies and their scores are just meshed though. Think of the Star Wars trilogy, Jaws, Superman, or Raiders. You cannot listen to those and not think of the movie, nor imagine the movies without those scores. These days, for me, it is not like that. I can listen to Clash of the Titans, the new one, and just not really picture the movie. It could be any number of newer movies for me. Sad times I think...

EDIT:

And, even if some of us can still notice the music, I bet most can't. You will not catch people humming the theme to inception, or notice it on tv, but Superman, Raiders, these are well known even in the general public..

Agreed! After watching Star Wars so much as a kid, listening to the Tie Fighters track from EpIV, I can still hear the tie fighters screaming by lmao.
And watching the movie, me and my brothers will all hum the tune, or make sounds to imitate it haha.

I think my family are about the only ones I know that will say "is that from so-and-so?". I got everyone listening to the music, cus if they saw a movie that I didn't, I always "who did the music?" "What was it like?"

Such a good soundtrack. I dont really want to see the movie, but I wanted to hear JNH :D

Yea, thats a nice track. My only problem with Airbender is the fact that I am a big fan of the series, and am very much missing the music from it...the movie score doesn't really capture the same mood, if you know what I am saying. So, while it is a nice score, it still...disappointed ina way. It is better for me to listen to it just to listen. Still need to see the movie though...GO SUKI !!! heheheh

Yeah, from what I hear, the movie was a let-down. Which isn't surprising, considering the director.... >.>

But, from listening to the soundtrack, it defintely has a different mood than the animated Nick series.

I'm surprised it doesn't have the Secret Tunnel song in it!!! :@

I liked the movie. Some parts lagged. "Ass-Kicked" was really lame IMO...
He was boring on screen.
Hit Girl and Big Daddy were the best!
Red Mist was okay...
But the score is really good!!
Ennio Morricone for Hit Girls infiltration is awesome!!!
The Warehouse scene was superb!!
Then lagged when Ass-Kicked did his narration...but then "MINDY!!" showed up and killed everyone!! :D
I didn't care much for the cop that was sort-of helping out Big Daddy.
I liked Mark Strong, he plays a good bad guy, as usual.
The mobster-goons he had running around...dont even realise when they die, like who's who. I think they are all "expendables"!!! :D
And as for the English teacher...the one responsible for so many tissue...she looks a LOT older in the movie than she is in real life, she's only in her 30's, but the movie makes her look like she's in her late 40's!!

I give the moive a solid 6/10!
The VA sountrack a wavering 4/10
The Score a gratifying 9/10!!! (only missing one due to it not yet on CD)

Why is it in Kick-Ass that no one traces the heroes??
I mean, the medic should've remembered when he found Kick-ass the first time and got rid of the costume. Records/logs should point to him, even just pull up records on the date/time when kick-ass was stabbed.
With all the fame, you'd think the medic and anyone else in the ambulance would've thought about it, and at least made attempts to contact him.

GEMS FROM THE PAST:

Mrs. Millers Greatest Hits

or
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KZ7Q7UN0

From The Original Uploader:
My musical taste, while steeped in the magnificent tasteful martini-soaked era of easy listening and lounge, stretches the envelope, somewhat, to include gems of the utterly tasteless, the long forgotten and sundry Difficult Listenings.
I adore LPs that are incomprehensibly uncool and even appallingly bad (see the majestic Kiama Girls Choir, Jamie Redfern etc) and one such is Mrs. Millers Greatest Hits
Where does one start with Mrs Miller?
www.mrsmillersworld.com has this to say
In April 1966, under the roar of Vietnam and a raging counter-culture, emerged a singer like no other. Off-pitch and off-tempo, a 59 year-old grandmother would perform rock standards such as "Hard Days Night", "Downtown", and "These Boots and Made for Walking" in a bizarre operatic style. Often considered the worst pop star of all time, she rode the line between farce and reality, as the reputable Capitol Records promoted the so-called "new sound" without cracking a smile. Her name was Elva Connes Miller, but on stage she was known simply as Mrs. Miller.
If youre not prepared for the moment when she starts to, for want of a better word, sing the timeless classic Downtown, then take care not to inhale your margarita.

Actually this copy belongs to our friend Ivanskipoo and, as you can see, the cling-wrap was still on it I thought it prudent to leave it on. As an extra bonus, the inner sleeve is a genuine classic 1966 Capitol Records advert.

Normally Id say download and enjoy but in this case, perhaps download and endure is more appropriate.

01 - Downtown
02 - The Shadow Of Your Smile
03 - Hard Days Night
04 - Dear Heart
05 - Chim Chiminee
06 - These Boots Are Made For Walking
07 - Lover's Concerto
08 - Let's Hang On
09 - Catch A Falling
10 - Gonna Be Like That
11 - My Love

Not necessarily the soundtrack thread, but start a new thread.
There's plenty of threads just for one album. No rules about that.
But this is the General Discussion, the admins/mods will execute on sight! D:

BTW, there's so much talk in the Hunt thread. And a lot of us keep saying "go to the GD thread"....but still....

I even have this thread bookmarked!!! D:

And yeah, I didnt read the comics, but she may have in the comics. but i didnt read the comics do i dont know.

it's a funny movie. the last half is way better than the first half.

Though I find it ridiculous that everyone thinks he's gay because they think he got raped.....like he volunteered for it to happen....not that it did happen...but its pretty stupid and very high-schoolish for them to think that under circumstance.
I actually hate that part of the movie. It's like it was written in the 80's!! D:

But it picks up after when the dynamic duo is in jeopardy.
The Strobe Light scene is my favorite.

I got my music on DVD's as backups. And I got over....60? 80? DVDs of music. about 40 of them are lossless quality. and the rest are lossy formats.
plus sfx. i love sfx. i'll get a game, like Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, just to extract all the sfx! It's alternative music to my ears.

Then there's the old CD's with mp3 and other lossy formats....

But if I were to sum up all my favorite tracks.....probably one iPod with 160GB will suffice.
I like to have the entire album, unless it's someone like Marylin Manson, I'll grab the tracks I know I like.

oh yeah, and audiobooks too.

Yeah, Crystal Skull has some nice action tracks. I ripped some to my regular Xbox (not the360).

And yeah, Hans Zimmer and everyone else at Media Ventures will all pitch in to do the job.

John Williams is old school. No "additional music by" or anything. He does like to work Iztak Perlman, they make a great team.

But as for Media Ventures, there isn't a single soundtrack without someone else from the studio tagging a long.

Danny Elfman will do a lot of work then move on to something else before completing it.
If I remember, there were a few sountracks that were done quickly, or in favor of doing another soundtrack...
But all I remember is something about these ones...

Batman Returns
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Corpse Bride
The Wolfman (walked away before changes were made in favor of Alice In Wonderland)

hahaha, use yellow, a bit softer on the eyes, i think. For movie subs anyway. I prefer yellow subtitles over white subtitles any day! you dont know how many times the white subs just blend in with some scenes and leave you pondering what they really said.

And Im just learning about this new Sherlock. Ive just watched the Guy Ritchie movie.
But im curious about the new bbc series.

And Im just learning about this new Sherlock. Ive just watched the Guy Ritchie movie.
But im curious about the new bbc series.

It was created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who's new producer) and Mark Gattis (League of Gentlemen, Doctor Who) and is a modern take on Sherlock Holmes. Instead of another version in good old victorian London, it brings the characters to our days with quite astonishing effectiveness. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman play Sherlock and Watson. As a fan of the Jeremy Brett era series, i quite liked Guy Ritchies movie but the setting of this series gives us the same good old Holmes in a world where mobile phones and blogs are used as tools to catch the bad guys. References to the original stories will keep the fans smiling. Really good stuff.

And for those interested, the music score is made by David Arnold and Michael Price and fits the series quite well. The main themes are quite good.

The series just ended. Pity it's only 3 episodes (they are 90 minutes long so they're more like TV movies), though presumably more are already being planed. So no soundtrack yet and, as far as i know, no plans to publish one, wich is a shame. The music is quite good.
As for shooting VR, i'm not sure what you mean. He shoots a wall at the appartment because, and i quote "I was bored". The DVD/Bluray for the whole series, plus the unaired 60 minute pilot and a few more extras, is to come out in August 30th.

Mr. Brett was one of a kind. I think that Robert Downey Jr. did play the part quite well but Cumberbatch is better.
I got the score about a month ago, not sure about the bitrate. But am interested in more details on what you have. It is one of those scores that is a bit hard to find so any user here would be surely pleased.

Edit: A thread has been created for the series at Thread 78117

Sherlock always practiced with his gun in the room, shooting the letters V.R. "Victoria Regina" in the walls.
The Guy Ritchie movie did it and I looked that up after cus I had my suspicion that it meant Victoria.

Oh, didn't remember that. As i said, in the last episode he shoots one of the appartment walls but i don't think he writes anything. VR in today's world wouldn't make as much sense as in victorian days, of course. But there is a smiley face thing painted on the wall wich seems to be what he's aiming at.

Listening to Jaws 2 @ 320..sigh. IJ and the kingdom of the Crystal Skull is cued up next--I have never listened to it, or seen the movie yet. I have the movie, but am too lazy to bother putting it in, I guess.

Anyhoo, ever notice how Zimmer and many others now have "helpers" on the scores, or it takes two or three to get a decent job done? I NEVER have seen "music by J williams, and some other people"....:b

Well. Actually. I wasn't going to mention this, but I was had a chance to work with a composer who was introduced as "John Williams ghost writer." That was eight years ago. His stuff sounded great, but, alas, it didn't work out. unfortunately, I can't go into further details.

Im thinking of actually finishing ripping The Corruptor from the DVD. Carter Burwell, me likes him.

It's 5.1, so the bitrate is 448, better than 320.
But is that still lossy? 448?
When I rip, I'm going to use DVD Audio Extractor to rip into 2.0 WAVE files (downmixed), then edit them into tracks.

I rather like this one a lot, I believe Carter Burwell commentates every so often. I remember there's a few areas where there's no music and no commentary.

I think it was either this one or Rush Hour by Lalo Schifrin that they talked about the different composers and different methods of scoring. Like some will cue their music to match the on-screen visuals. Others will match the mood/atmosphere more than trying to make it look synchronised.

I think it's neat, learning that. Really gives a new perspective on the music you listen to.
I love Philip Glass, and it's so rare that he'll he synchronize with hits and stingers and other rises. For the most part, the tempo and melody will change with the dialog or situation. He's got really beautiful music.

I think when I rip them into WAV, I'll save them in FLAC. Largely due to it being higher than 320.

And I'm not a fan of other formats like .ogg, wma, and what have you.
And .wav is simply too big.

Any opinions???

So this new system of creating posts is supposed to be easier for searching.
The default search is to show threads instead of posts.

If what you search for is in a megathread, you'll have to enter that thread and do a search in there as well "Search this thread"...but you have to wait 60 seconds in between searches.

With the new laws, no one will have to search twice. The thread with the title of the music you're looking for can be found so easily.

I like it. It will be difficult for most newbies to understand this as most newbies don't read forum rules.
There times where I search for "Max Payne" but end up with a million mega threads or pointless threads that involve either word and has nothing to do with Max Payne soundtracks (move/games).

The "Law of 2" is sound.

I don't see the advantage of the new system yet. There are already multiple posts for one score, because no one does a search before opening a thread. Also, the search already shows posts or threads.
The only thing I see is, that uploaders get more post counts.

It's 5.1, so the bitrate is 448, better than 320.

It's lossy. Very lossy, in fact. 448 means, that every channel uses around 75 kBit/s. You can compare the quality with a stereo file, that has 150 kBit/s. So technically, you won't have a better quality than a 192 MP3. You can't add some lossy channels and suddenly it's lossless. The higher frequencies are cropped within every channel, so merging them together never restores those areas in order to making them lossless. That's why we prefer isolated scores on Blurays. They are stored in lossless there.

With respect, it's not quite that simple...

1. In a 5.1 isolated score, the ".1" is a low-bitrate bass channel (it only encodes frequencies up to 120hz which is almost completely outside of the human hearing spectrum - it requires the merest [almost negligible] fraction of the bitrate of the other channels, which retain frequencies up to 20,000hz. So, effectively we're talking about 5 channels @ 448kbps, for an average bitrate per channel of 90 kb/s.

2. Compression algorithims exploit the aural similarities between channels to aid compression. A 256kbps stereo file is not equivalent in sound quality to a 128kbps mono file. (See Joint Stereo). A 256kbps four channel file is not equivalent in sound quality to a 64kbps mono file. Etc, etc, etc.

3. The benefits of these similarities would be multiplied across five channels.

You have painted an unnecessarily gloomy picture, I feel... ;)

If you are ripping an isolated score from a DVD, and you don't want to release the AC3 source file, it is worth saving the final output losslessly to prevent further degradation that would occur if you were to take a lossy source and compress it again.

Personally, I would just upload the original AC3s and allow folk to transcode it as they saw fit. I'd rather download a 448kbps AC3 then a ~900kbps FLAC derived directly from that very same AC3. ;)

Obviously the preference would always be for a lossless source from Bluray... I had no idea they were still doing isolated scores on Blurays, though - that's very happy news for me! I haven't made the jump yet. There was a time when quite a significant number of DVDs has isolated scores, and then they just started to disappear... :(

*raises his Spock-brow* Fascinating.
I would upload the tracks in AC3, however, most of the software I work with are limited in that respect.
There are two methods in which I extract the isolated score...

A) A plethora of stand-alone programs consisting of DVD Shrink (from the DVD to chapters, or sections of the score... in parts... saved in .ifo/.vob on the hard drive); PGC Demux to extract the AC3 file; BeSweet/BeLight GUI to split the AC3 file into separate MONO WAV files (if it's 5.1 isolated score, I can edit it so the commentary in the center channel that sometimes overlaps the score and save the commentary and score as separate tracks), or if it's just stereo, save it as a stereo WAV file edit accordingly; and lastly, to edit the files, I use Goldwave (I don't like the freeware Audacity).
Goldwave doesn't allow editing of 5.1 sources. And when it comes to 5.1, I omit the .1 and check to see if the center channel has any commentary that overlaps the score and edit for a proper score track.

B) I use DVD Audio Extractor and do the same, but with much less steps to get them into Goldwave.

I never used to use DVD Audio Extractor, as it never really allowed you to split the 5.1 into separate MONO WAV files.

So, the reason I would save in FLAC is to avoid saving it in lossy mp3 format.
And saving in such a format, I'm not entirely sure what the accurate bitrate would be. Google provides little information on the matter. I keep getting forums with lengthy debates and no substantial articles of information.
HydrogenAudio is full of debates and confusion. Plus, they also do not support any fashion of piracy, so I tend to avoid that place altogether.

None of the editing programs I use will save in AC3.
As I understand it, I would have to edit the MONO WAV files individually and use one of many programs that can create AC3, given you have the WAV files to import.
However, creating an AC3 involves proper configuration and many more steps to get the final lossy AC3.

I find that since I have already transcoded the files to WAV (due to the every program I use transcodes it to WAV), I'll save it in FLAC for less space and without quality degradation by saving it in mp3.

So there's the dilemma. Until the bluray comes out.... and if it has the isolated score.
Though, I think isolated scores are more rare on bluray. I don't think Donnie Brasco has an isolated score on its bluray release.
And American Psycho didn't either. I know the region 4 of American Psycho had an isolated score on it.

Ok, so aside from having a good yuk, what is there to gain for someone to fake a score? I mean the work to remix and all... there is no profit, or "fame" the way stuff gets poached and spread...so why?

It's not fake, it's ripped from the 5.1ch files on the episodes themselves. As for why, i liked the score on the show and since it seems it won't get published, i thought i take a shot at making a bootleg or whatever.

Even if it was relevant, only 1 or 2 posts were needed, max. Then back to DL links.

But, the haters and the haters hating the haters, all that fuel just added to the fire that ultimately burned down the house.

This could be a great place, and it was not too long ago , if folks would act like adults and not children.

ok peace said, again lets get along people. Filmscores are fun!!

Comments, even positive lead to debates, arguments and bring out the haters.
First post after initial creation, no download link. Not a good start.

I just prepped up a download link while they closed it down. The lossless version of E.T. (the one with 8 tracks).
And come on, one comment after the start is nothing bad. Look at the original thread ;)

You guys can continue to use this thread for posting scores in the stead of the other one. All the regulars know about here anyway...

That way discussion is encouraged, and you still get your download links. It just won't be under the Film, Television and Classical Music Download Links section. But at least you can stay in touch with each other and continue in the megathread tradition, if you feel more comfortable that way.

The film score/VGM hunt was one of my favorite spots to check in on. I've been following it for its entire history. But it's gone now, and I don't think it should come back.

It was never quite what it should be. Scoreman's original mandate was abandoned almost immediately as its scope expanded to a free for all, basically, a film score forum within the forum.
It was handy, but it worked against the basic structure of the overall forum, that is, requests in the requests section and posts in various download section. During the survey of dl section reform, I looked back over the older posts and found that the single album per thread style, is, in fact, the way it actually began.
With the structure change to requiring new threads for each album (and whatever 'new feature' is in the works,) clearly, they are trying to steer it back to what it was.
And then there's the crazy talk. I've gone through a bunch of forums, much, much ruder than that one had become, but, honestly, who needs it? Keeping the request and download threads more on point cuts down on the opportunity for people to be dicks.
General chit chat goes here, or on other similar discussions boards. That's what they're for. Questions and answers about bitrate and track numbers and editions and so forth go with either the request (if it hasn't been posted,) or on the posted album page if it has. This also tends to keep the topics on point.
Is this less convenient than the good old free for all that was the film score thread? Absolutely. Is it worth it not to have the headaches? Time will tell, but I believe so.
as for starting a new version. Well, until the reasons the previous one went nuts can be fixed (and now is not the time for that discussion, everybody needs to calm down and sleep it off. Give it six months at least.) they're not going to give any chance to start it over again.

For the record, I'm a fan of megathreads, and not only am I not giving up my Galactica thread, I have other things in the works. I realize that it will involve a lot (a whole lot,) of separate posts as well, but to me, that's the price of doing business. I did a test the other night, and for me at least, it wasn't a hassle.

and remember, to search the site through google, use:
site:forums.ffshrine.org "your album name here"

She really tried hard to be liked by everybody, trying to comply with everybodys stipulations on how they want things prepared, God Bless her! I wouldve said F.O.! a long time ago to ingrates and basically dont upload anything publicly anymore! I had a great laugh when she basically told everyone to F.O.!! I hope she continues her posts & discussions. If not I would like to say she was a treat & she will be missed :(

The only good thing about that is that posts can be categorized by composer. But discussions would be hard to keep alive in a blog format.

which announcement? Or do you want my opinion on just the idea of an announcement? personally, I am against announcing anything, let it all be a fucking surprise...it's better that way..

I believe they are announcing 2 more cds this evening.

Two more new releases are coming your way this Tuesday, August 17! We'll post artwork and samples for both CDs on Monday the 16th, sometime before we go home for the day.

One features an incredibly intense, action-oriented score for a tough eighties thriller, composed by a popular and very well-represented Oscar winner. In fact, it might just be his darkest score to date. Listeners will no doubt enjoy discovering such a grim side to this frequently bright musician. The other CD sports a reissue of a title first available as a generous LP when the movie opened in the eighties, then appearing again on a very short-lived CD a few years later. Yep. Another Oscar-winning composer showing off, here writing in his most popular and exciting style. Bold, robust, dynamic stuff. And a powerhouse finale that ranks with the best of 'em!

Those, who don't migrate to other places in the meantime will see. Not me, I'm afraid.

Where did MaD and bi0 ever end up? Those guys used to post scores weeks in advance of their actual release dates. I have no idea how they did it, but they were the heart and soul of the Film Score/VGM Hunt Thread and kept that place running in its prime.

The thing I most liked about the megathread (back in its heyday 1-2 years ago) was that you could actually keep up with which releases came out in chronological order because people would post them as soon as they were released. I didn't have to check any of the release dates or anything, I just had to check one thread and knew they would be posted there as soon as they were available. Now with the chaos of having to sort through individual posts, random things are posted at any given time and bury all the potential new releases. It's a fucking pain in the ass to keep up with all the newer stuff. It's not worth it, and I'm with FunnyML on this one. I'm finding a better place to keep up with my new releases.

And I still haven't fucking found a download link Dinner for Schmucks yet. I guess NOBODY likes Theodore Shapiro.

I love the Nanny McPhee Series - and the sequel lives up to the original completely. It wasn't really a curse - it was more of just a metaphor I believe..to show the transformation of the kids... Sure its a bit corny but its meant to be that way ;) So she shows up in her ugly form in the second as well.. you haz to see it ^_^

one nay-sayer leads to 100, all with nothing new or productive to say.
even defending someone else is a lost cause. good intentions, but ultimately futile in online arguments.
the haters have the ball in their court and always will, and they'll never run out pf things to say either. worst case scenario, they get you worked up, laugh at you then they take the steps to publicly apologize and ask for everyone to move on. but, while they do it with a smirk aimed at you, they'll hope the anger they built up in you is enough for you to lash out at them and call their bluff so they can look like the bigger person.

Trust me, ignoring all negativity will end it. If they persist on larger levels, they can get banned. You win.

one nay-sayer leads to 100, all with nothing new or productive to say.
even defending someone else is a lost cause. good intentions, but ultimately futile in online arguments.
the haters have the ball in their court and always will, and they'll never run out pf things to say either. worst case scenario, they get you worked up, laugh at you then they take the steps to publicly apologize and ask for everyone to move on. but, while they do it with a smirk aimed at you, they'll hope the anger they built up in you is enough for you to lash out at them and call their bluff so they can look like the bigger person.

Trust me, ignoring all negativity will end it. If they persist on larger levels, they can get banned. You win.

Like putting out a fire, you must remove all oxygen so it has no fuel to burn.

I have ignored a number of people, but it seems I may have to ignore more if they continue. And for Sarah, if you read this post, I won't name names, because most of them were only single post flaming situations.

I just finished watching the remake of Karate Kid....such a horrible movie.
The definitive reason to stop making remakes...
Only the Jackie Chan scenes were good. You can digitally remove everyone else in the movie and keep Jackie Chan and some of James Horner's score, and the movie will be perfect!!
The big tournament wasn't even as climactic as the original. Honestly, felt nothing when jaden smith knocked down his oppenant for the win. :/
It took an hour for them to get serious. i dont care if you call it "building up a story" as nothing happened in the first hour. :/
no development, no character.
i'm going to go watch the original to recover. And I hate will smith for implanting the commercial idea for doing the remake!! blasphemy!!!

Score should exist, I think it was by Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams though. I see various artists score only on amazon. Maybe its not released yet.

Umm, I've had the pleasure of seeing the film yet, but the imdb lists the composers as Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams, so off hand, I'd say no.

I haven't heard about a complete score by them either. (There is apparently a sequel in the works.)

My apologies,
JonC

(oops, beat me to it.)

I just saw the movie and right there in the credits it said "Hans Zimmer"...

It's all three of them. According to Wikipedia. And since its hans zimer, there'll always be other peeps around.
He hardly works alone or has anything completely to himself.
He probably threw in a few main themes then let the other 2 throw in a bunch of "additional music".
I havent seen the movie, or checked out IMDB. But if IMDB doesnt mention his name, he most likely barely lifted a finger for the music.
The movie credits would list him though. But not always the "additional music by". Im not even sure if they list "additional music" way later in the credits when they get to the music section (not the song lists, but the studio and orchestration information. not the various artist section, just the odd time if its some source music like "tomandandy" who barely do scores for whole movies.)

If i create an archive of a media player playlist and upload it, will that work as well as all the others?

like save it as a "playlist (.pls)" or "m3u (.m3u)" and upload that?

No, I just really didn't like the remake... just the Jackie Chan parts...
the ending fight scene wasn't so grand like the original, both were bloody and beat up and the bad guy gives in with his battered and bloody and sweaty face.
Okay, I know they're kids...but why were they kids in the first place??
It just doesn't look right to see Jack Chan fend off some kids.
The scene with the trip up to the dragon well and the car scene were the best.
I dont remember anything else from that movie :/

***sigh***

Ok, so I am home for now. They have me on a special diet and some nutritional supplements, to make sure I am well enough and hydrated for the surgery. I have to have some tests, like to make sure my heart can deal with it. They are figuring on sometime in about three weeks or so. It is going to be an exploratory surgery, so they can get a better look at what is going on. If they can remove whatever when they are in there they may try. We do no for sure that it appears that my chronic pancreatitus has done some actual damage to the pancreas, and some of that may have to come out. This explains the near constant pain, and since the pancreas produces enzymes to digest food, it's not working is why I always feel so tired, even though I have trouble sleeping....

So, I carry on as normal for a couple of weeks. After the surgery, I will apparently have a bunch of tubes in inconvenient places, and be doped, so for a week or too, you may not hear from me much. Yea, I know, you can use a break....

In the meanwhile, I am here, to talk and share....

We're all rooting for you, Goddess. All the best for you and Reid.

i want to take my tv themes, from a playlist, and turn them into an archive that can be uploaded and shared.....The actual theme folders are all over the library, and I just don't wanna hunt them down, but the playlist can be arranged and such much easier, see? I have probably over ten hours of theme intros and outros, I'd like to offer.....

My experience with playlists (Windows Media Players, therefor not necessarily applicable to other formats,) is that they are constructed not around the file metadata, but rather around the file name itself, and therefor also around its specific location on the drive relative to...either the playlist, or more likely the media player itself. At the very least, the player's library has to be set to look for files within the directories they are located. Thus, unless one can duplicate the file directory structure of the original playlist, a shared playlist won't know where to find it. Also, the tracks must have the exact same name as those on the playlist, so an identical copy of a track with a different file name would be missed.

The only thing I can think of, and it would be crazy labor intensive, is to manually write out the tracklist.

Hope things go well with tests and such. Please keep us informed if you can,
JonC

AH! I get it now! I see what you want to do.....though....The libraries in your media players function mostly as a reference of the original file...
Ultimately, the only way is to sort through the plethora of files and organize into folders to archive...

I think some media players give you an option to move the files around. they all point to the original location.

I think iTunes will let you do that. create a new folder, move original files to new folder, then open the new folder in window explorer to work with the archiver. But don't quote me on that. I haven't done it that way before.

I go through the old fashioned way...files, folders and severe organizing....and I'm still doing it.... O_O

I do know of a handy free program for making a tracklist, playlist & sfv file all at once ! The only thing is if the tracks were not tagged you get an error and then you gotta do it all from scratch.

PostAssistant v009 (http://www.xs4all.nl/~mfaas/)

Other free programs to go along with this one...

ok. this will take getting used to, but the new layout is nice.

I may be silly, but couldn't I make a playlist, and when I like it, burn it to disk, theen rip said disk and archive that?

If you have a playlist & mp3 files in the same directory...yes. But if you upload or burn just the playlist without the mp3 files it will work on your computer but will not work for anyone else because the mp3's were not included.

BTW, here is an example of what Post Assistant does.

Yep, sounds like you have the necessary files to make it work. I downloaded an album once that someone uploaded and all it contained was the m3u playlist which was worthless because the mp3's were not included.

Some libraries have an option to follow the original file when you move them.
Some of the media software will let you burn playlists directly to CD, works best when you use the same program that made the playlist.
It uses the playlist and grabs the original file to burn to CD. Other CD burning software may be capable of doing the same thing.

I personally use Cowon's "JetAudio" to play all my music.
It has a library function as well, but I don't use it.
I do know with this program, with your playlists/albums/music-playing stuff, you can open up the Playlist window that shows the music that's currently playing (and a drop-down menu to show other playlists/albums saved to jetaudio).
You can select the files you want then right-click them and go to something like "file management". You'll get options to copy or move/rename the files. They'll work directly with the original files.
The library function in JetAudio works the same way.
I haven't made any playlists there or any albums with mixed music, but it works the same way.

I'm not sure which program you're using for your libraries, but you could try going through the right-click's context menu for any such operations.
Or go through options that indicate anything.

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed with ToP123, though I haven't watched the original. Isn't that the one where they called each other by colors, then Tarantino liked that idea and put it into Reservoir Dogs??

The remake was just so....out of there. It was decent, but could've been better. The director has too many washy-slow-motion scenes. It was artistic and surreal in the late '90s. But, now that it's a new a century, that sort of slow motion should be banned. Other slow-motions are bad too. I've noticed some old Jackie Chan movies will film in normal frame-rate then just slow down the playback speed. Common in some video editing. Not the best slow-motion.

It's just as bad as that time George Lucas wanted to have the Star Wars movies available in picture-slides...

I don't know if there's a forum rule about it, but there should be.
One of the forums has it, and it's soooo beautiful.
It just seems so childish to see the word. And vain. Very vain.
