As may be guessed at, I am very keen on 'Jazz' - so much so that I have Jazz collections coming out of every hard drive orifice, and yet the weird thing is that from Creedmoor my horizons have broadened to include names and albums I never knew existed before, until he posted them here (Blossom Dearie, June Christy, Annie Ross - and the numerous broadway and musicals given the Jazz treatment by the established Jazz greats).
So I wholeheartedly second 'No matter how many years pass, there's always something new to hear or see or read.'
And the weird bit is, no matter what Creedmoor posts, I ain't got - till he posts it. We just never seem to trip up over each other in our posts - It never seems to be "Oh! he's posted it before I had a chance to do so, or vickie-verkie. What he contributes to this is always fresh and different, even (no, especially), to me.
Creedmoor jumping on board to help me out has made this thread what it is. I thank him for that. (and also wish him a Happy New Year too).
It's respect enough that people like this thread and take what is offered, (God! don't I go on - ramble, ramble) and with that I also wish everyone a Happy and Healthy (and dare I say it Prosperous) New Year for 2016.

When I said
'never even heard of the film 'Johnny Cool' Gonna suss that DVD out if its available', I'rd only just downloaded the score. I never realised that it was by Billy May.
Now it must come as no surprise that I'm a bit keen on jazz (especially from the Movie side of things), and when I listened to this - well! What great stuff this is. Anyone who hasn't downloaded this need to go back to post #258 and get it while it's there, or you may regret it.

As one does, I also found the DVD on Amazon and will get it next payday.

You need to see Sam Fuller's Underworld, USA and The Crimson Kimono or Budd Boetticher's The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond to understand just how lame and impersonal Cool is. It's "directed" by William Asher, for goodness sake, the brain trust behind Bewitched. He's more interested in pumping out celebrity cameos – and putting the moves on his future wife, Elizabeth Montgomery – than he is making a decent noir. The moment after her character is beaten and raped, she calls Johhny and puts the moves on him. "I neeeeed you, Johhny. I need you right now!" Oh, brother! Don't get me wrong – I own a copy of Cool – I'll buy anything with Joey Bishop as a used car salesman – but it's a guilty pleasure, strictly for the laughs.

Actually never realised that George Segal ever played an instrument.
Did look it up and got (from wikipedia) the following.
In 1967, Segal released his debut LP, The Yama Yama Man
in 1974 - A Touch of Ragtime - As George Segal and the Imperial Jazzband
in 1986 - Basin Street - Canadian Brass with George Segal

Segal is an accomplished banjo player. At Haverford College and Columbia University, he formed Bruno Lynch and his Imperial Jazz Band. Segal also played with a dixieland jazz band while in college at Columbia that had several different names. When he was the one who booked a gig, he would bill the group as Bruno Lynch and his Imperial Jazzband. The group, which later settled on the name Red Onion Jazz Band, later played at his first wedding.[10] In the Army, his band was called Corporal Bruno's Sad Sack Six.

Again guys, I think we're losing the plot - there's upgrades elsewhere, and all over on the forum - vinly's remastered and put on CDs -
The title of the thread is 'From the attic - old Compilations, vinyl, tv, movies' - I'm sure I've never found CD's in my attic -. The ethos behind this thread has always been one of memories both VISUAL and auditory - my memories of attic LPs always start with the visual sight of the old vinyl cover and back image of the loved and long forgotten vinyl, and having the chance to be taken back to my memories (crackles, clicks, pops and scratches all). There's already a load of individual threads that cater to upgraded remakes of the original, but these, as excellent as the music quality is, do not invoke the same memories contained in my attic.

How this to being closer to the plot line? Though not many crackles and pops on these very old recordings. This digital remastering is pretty well dated,too. But it too probably doesn't fit very well.

I basically have no more to share here as what I've got left really doesn't fit the parameters of this thread. I've enjoyed posting and participating here,and will be following it and will readily download what I haven't got. My thanks,gentlemen!

You're welcome Kenny. I'm actually still in the process of feverishly downloading the goodies you and Scott have recently put up.
There's about 15rar files just completed on my desktop and I think another ten to go.
What I particularly can't wait to hear is 'Naked City' - 'Nightmare' (never heard of it, but looking at the tracklist - there's just something about it that's 'library music' like and that's enticing enough.) - and then there's 'One Step Beyond' (I remember watching that as a lad -can't remember any storylines, but just remember that it was spookie (for that time) - and I a'nt even got round to listening to 'Gigot' yet and then there's the curveball you put in 'The Fugitive' - like I think I said before "so much to listen too, so little time.
And that's before I get to Scott's stuff.
In my childhood there'rd be wrist ache enough through certain activiities - now I'm getting it through constantly unzipping rar files. Well, that's life, I suppose.

That would be quite a feat had Yesterday not been released until a year later. :P

"Yesterday" was not released until the summer of 1965.
However it was composed during the Beatles' tour of France in 1964.
The song was offered as a demo to Chris Farlowe before the Beatles recorded it,
but he turned it down as he considered it "too soft".

Raymond Scott first came to me through a number of his maniacal jazz tunes that were "borrowed" by Carl Stalling and used as background music in Looney Tunes. Vocalist Dorothy Collins first came to me as a panelist on Goodson & Toddman game shows and later as Alan Funt's co-host on Candid Camera. It wasn't until I found this LP that I learned the couple were an item.

Uh-oh. That's gonna' put a crimp in my input. Unless there's a dead link, I frankly don't see the need in posting soundtracks that are readily available elsewhere in the Shrine. I'm skating the periphery of cinema as is by posting the vocal stylings of Fred Mertz and Lily Munster. As I said at the start of the thread
'This is really a continuation of 'Creedmoor's' brilliant contributions in the realms of old LP's (or vinyl, more affectionately called) stuff that is currently experiencing a resurgent (especially on this forum), and where Creedmoor's posts are dotted about all over this forum (click his profile and on his most recent threads and you'll find a wealth of goodies there.)
This is my own 'jumping on the bandwagon' contribution to this area of 'missed out when I was young' - 'long forgotten' or just plain 'long unappreciated past' stuff that most people have probably still got hidden away in their lofts or in the attics of their parents.'

'long forgotten' or just plain 'long unappreciated past' was more or less referencing 'the old lounge/easy listening budget LP's that were all the rage 'back then'. Most of my post are those - and if there's just one track within those individual posts that's a cover of a film, tv or musical show that happens to be amongst the rest of the album, then I assume that it's fine for the forum - it's a thin line but so far seems exceptable.
The odd (what I call curve ball) slight deviation can sometimes be alright (and even adds to the magic) but overuse of the 'odd curve ball' might just bring unwanted attention to the thread.

Most of remastered and old vinyls tend to be repackaged on CDs that to me tend to be second hand memories - where the music is the first memory that's brought forward - whereas I get more nostalgic when I suddenly get an image of the actual LP cover (with the magic words 'side one and side two' on the back) which first fires off my memory. It's a visual thing first off, more than the music side, and involves both senses which makes the nostalgic thing more real to me.

It is a difficult thing, I know, and eventually the well of available sources will run out. That's got to be accepted - hence I mentioned a few posts back how surprised I was at the reception we were all getting within a month of setting off.

Anyway, God knows - I do ramble on (the biggest failing of my life). Sorry 'bout that.

Guideff, let me say how much I have enjoyed this thread and how much I appreciate your starting it. I come from the LP generation of the 1970s, with "Young Frankenstein" and "Jaws" being among the first soundtrack LPs I purchased. To this day, I prefer the original "Jaws" LP program over the latter editions, even though they are wonderful as well. I guess it's because I grew up listening to the album and practically wore it out. Seeing and listening to all of the old, wonderful soundtracks of yesteryear on this thread has made me a kid again. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me relive those days, and I truly appreciate your wonderful contributions to this forum.

I highly appreciate Scott sharing Irving Berlin in Hollywood with the rest of the forum. It is a must have IMHO. Due to the multi-angled,long shot-close shot or Fat Mono principle as Alfred Newman called it,some of these tracks have been remastered into stereo. A far better listening experience than hearing them in dead mono.

Kenny – Dead, sir? I'm shocked. Mono's far from dead! I'm not a fan of music electronically re-enhanced for stereo. The M-G-M conversions from the late-60's that I grew up despising – they sounded as though they were remastered in a subway station – forever turned me off. For me, it's the aural equivalent of colorizing old movies. Call me purist, but if a song wasn't recorded in stereo, leave it that way. I don't need artificial stereo to convince me of Louis Armstrong's genius. Just my jaded-assed opinion.

Just a word here about my using the term dead mono - I didn't invent this industry standard term.

As to these computer enhanced music tracks,they are not the same as the electronically,reverb infested measures taken back in the 60's. Pioneers like Alfred Newman would mix 2,3,4,or maybe even 5 recordings onto a single mono track to enhance the sounds back in the 1940's. Computer software can roughly place the instruments where they would have been had there been true stereo back in those days.

One doesn't have to like these measures but it isn't fair to compare these separate processes. I ain't no music perfectionist but the 1960's measures annoy me - the late 90's measures of restoring those tracks that had stem angle recordings delight me.
