One thing I will note for anyone who shares my particular flavor of obsession: despite the superb remastering job, there IS a persistent rumbling noise present through all of these tracks. If you have a piece of software like Audition, I suggest sampling the lead-in from one of the tracks (the dead silence before the actual track starts) and using it to clean the audio stream. I did that with mine, and it VASTLY improves the listening experience.

Not only is he a brilliant (IMO brilliant) filmmaker and storyteller, he's also a whiz and hacking up Horner's material and placing it all over the fucking map. So much of the music in his films is tracked from other cues written for specific moments.

Good to know--I've seen a bunch of Cameron's other films but I never really paid attention to the music until Titanic, and having undergone a project over the weekend to line up the cues from this release with footage from the movie (itself inspired by an edit job to remove the love story), I've seen exactly this phenomenon in action.

That said I'd really like to be able to find this specific two-note cue, whichever other track(s) it's part of--I've scoured the current release and it doesn't seem to be present in this version of "Hymn to the Sea," and I went back and listened to the Titanic suite from the old one...the foreboding-sounding music is there but not the specific two-note cue I'm looking for.

What can I say, I like the action set-pieces more so than the romance. What's left is a little less than an hour of stuff (which doesn't include the end credits).

No. What was "pathetic" was that they started insulting people - WITHOUT cause, and turn around expecting others with the album to share it as an end result.

OR

They behave badly and expect to be rewarded for it.

No one made these people throw insults around and name calling. Those of us who received that just decided to give a little back to them as a response.


Eventually it'll show up here - every release does, but it won't be from any of us who have it who were insulted FIRST before we decided to retaliate.

To the point about LLL limiting their releases--it actually makes solid business sense. They already serve a niche audience, and as much as we in the music fandom might've longed for an unabridged Titanic release, I'm sure we can't say the same for the mainstream audience--which limits the size of their customer base. Therefore it makes sense to do a small press of the album for us, instead of going to the expense of mass-producing it--why mass-produce something that won't mass-sell?

I'm not necessarily a fan of that practice (if it's not going to be profitable as a physical release, do a digital-only--surely that's less expensive), no more than I am of how LLL seems to take forever to actually ship anything once you place an order. But, as long as they're out there with quality releases, I'll keep being patient with it. It's better than not having it, after all.

5 sec insert missing, NOT the filmversion, ONLY the film version, wrong upload service...
there is no pleasing people...

don't forget: sharers do this for free, in their own time...so at least be patient...

I couldn't agree more... I rather buy the original, or if I can't ( for personal reasons), I could wait two or three weeks (or even more), and the files coming right, with good sound quality...

PS: I didn't know about the fires, such a tragedy, here in Portugal only on the October 15 of this year, we had more than 500 fires al over the country, more than 60 people die...So there's more important things in the world than just a cd...

Lucky :) I'll pass on this one, even though I'm really, REALLY curious. I LOVE James Horner, but €70 is a bit much. I'll keep an eye on Discogs until the price drops.

So. Listened to Disc I: Lots of unused music, alternates and album versions. If this is any indication, lots of editing will be required to make this into the film edits of tracks. Great sound quality tho! Ill need to use this to update me complete edit of the score.

It's not just him, many others have asked. I understand why they want a film mix; because for most other scores, it's the movie as intended, with every cue chronologically. But in this movie, it was a MESS, so many cues go where they shouldn't be. So it's not a good listening experience, but people still want it just to hoarde it. Or because they have the ilussion that they'll be listening to something more complete. Seriously people if a serious JH expert tells you it's not worth it, it's not. This LLL release is definitely the BEST listenign experience for the full score.

A film mix of ANY Cameron film is a mess. I only did Avatar because I pretty much had the entire film mix already on disc, albeit in mono :(

Yeah yeah yeah. That is fine. On any other movie that is not a James Cameron movie. You don't get that experience with the film mix of any James Cameron movie because he places the music where it shouldn't be. Again, it is a serious mess. If you wanna convince yourself a film mix of Titanic is good for your hoard sake, you be you, but I still just don't get what's the point when the best listening experience is in the LLL album.

If you're doing that you need "Southampton" and "Leaving Port" from disc 3, not disc 1. Don't use the OST tracks for those.

Yeah, true words. I�ve done severals for myself and it was really for my pleasure. One of them I�ve shared here and if I compared the feedback against the download counts there was a huge difference. Here it�s like mass production. But some people don�t see the endless hours of work behind.

IF you can get the film mix you don't need to make it.

If you want to make it yourself it won't be possible without doing a fair amount of audio ripping from the film.

stop the Film mix vs. Composers score argument. They serve different purposes and different people prefer them. It doesnt matter. And a good edit has all of it for us all to listen to. So here: The composer worked so hard to make a score for a film, pouring their heart into it. The director has a vision of the film they are making, and sometimes they edit a score to better fit with their vision. As Tia Dalma said in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest: "Same story, different version and all are true". Titanic is still one of my favorite scores, and I am so happy to have this ultimate edition (still listening through it....) so thank you to all who made it happen, I appreciate it. And if you want to listen to your suites and composer tracks, GREAT, enjoy every note! If you want to listen to your edited Film Score, GREAT, enjoy every scene in your head. :)

I listened to this 4 CD edition...this is just AMAZING !!! But, it's a fact : the Film Version of the score is a "Joyeux Bordel"...

This LLL edition is a real gold mine because of all these unused part of the score we can finally hear. We all have to be grateful for that. Nevertheless, I understand people who wants a Film Version because it's been 20 years that we're used to listening to or trying to create a complete score as we listen to it in the movie.
In that way, this 4 CD edition can be disturbing.

In my opinion, both versions are indispensable to complete our listening experience of the score.

The film version of A Promise Kept is the first 1:41 of the album version and the alternate included in the set seques in from there and finishes it off. I tried to make a film version of 2 1/2 Miles Down but not only is it difficult to achieve but I happen to like the new material so I've neglected that mission. Leaving Port (alternate) is actually a longer version of the film version so you're not missing much trying to achieve a true-to-film version as you'd be missing a chunk of music. The film version of Lovejoy Chases Jack and Rose is still missing; one of the two versions included comes close but it's most definitely NOT the one in the film. There's A LOT of tracked music, especially when Jack is locked up downstairs and Rose is searching for him, so again you're not missing much by trying to replicate a film version. Other than that, everything is pretty much here. One omission I hated to see was the synth stinger that plays in Hard to Starboard when the iceberg comes into view for the first time, right before the hit. The alternate comes close on that front but I had to manage a short rip from the Bluray to complete it. Lastly, Rose (alternate) is the film version.

This edition is not sooo god, just some unreleased songs, nothing more. The "sinking" music is the same of the stupid original discs version, the famous final "dream" song is not including in the album. It's also because Titanic is a good collector's item. Not just the music for the sake of it, but also being able to tangibly hold that album in one's hands, and how significant it is.

In addition to that, we want the score to sell because it's the least we could do to not pirate it given what happened to one of the two (and there are only two) founders of La-La Land Records.

It's not overpriced. If you think it is, you're not familiar with how sought-after the complete score of Titanic has been for all these years. If you simply want Titanic, there are other versions out there, both via (illegal) download links and via Discogs that will give you what you want. If it's the complete score you want, it's not overpriced, but perfectly reasonable actually. It's FOUR CD's... You think $12.5 per CD is overpriced? Read my comment below... it's the shipping that makes the prices soar. And even that is something LLL can't help. I've seen Waxworks and Mondo drop shipping rates recently as well, as much as they can afford at least.
