Al-Cid 10-2 Mjrn

Al-Cid goes into the final; Mjrn into the 3rd/4th place match.

Second semi-final:

Marquis Ondore

Bhujerba's diplomatic leader and uncle to Ashe, Halim Ondore works to build a resistance force to Imperial ambitions throughout the game's duration. In order to do this however, he must maintain a veneer of support for the Empire, causing him to hand the party over to them during the Dreadnought Leviathan incident. Took part in the main character rumble, but lost in the first round to Larsa. He now gets another chance to get himself into the Champion of Champions rumble. First Round: 9-2 vs. Pilika; Quarter-finals: 7-5 vs. Moogling Moogles. Tcs: 9

vs.

Drace

Drace works with Gabranth to protect Larsa from Vayne. Her role in the plot is brief but spectacular, as shown by her tragic exit from the plot. First Round: 12-3 vs. Old Dalan; Quarter-finals: 11-3 vs. Ba'Gamnan. Tcs: 17

Mjrn

One of Fran's sisters, Mjrn has the same desire to leave Eruyt Village and take part in outside affairs that Fran had when she left. Your party learns she has left the village as you pass through, and later encounters her in Henne Mines. First Round: 10-5 vs. Jules; Quarter-finals: 9-3 vs. Ktjn; Semi-finals: 2-10 vs. Al-Cid. Well, Drace wraps up third. Time for the big one:

Al-Cid

Part of the Rozarrian nobility, Al-Cid tries with Larsa to broker a peace deal between their Empire and Archadia. He doesn't have a great deal of lines, but from what we see of him it seems safe to assume he is a ladies' man. He even flirts with Ashe briefly when you encounter him in Bur-Omisace. Al-Cid 9-2 Marquis Ondore

When Flux voted for Ondore to make it 2-0 I thought he was in with a chance, but then Al-Cid rattled off nine straight votes. I think I've given Ondore enough time to try and mount some sort of comeback now, but there's nothing doing.

So, Al-Cid wins the rumble. He seems to be a popular winner and probably the least controversial one we've had for a while. Now we need to nominate a new category for the next rumble. Personally, I'm liking the idea of a quotes rumble, and have a few ideas already. But I'm also cool with weapons and equipment, FMVs (although, as I've said, that will likely take longer than your average rumble in terms of setting up and running) or any other suggestion. Incidentally Agent, I recieved a PM from you a while back about the FMVs. Any progress on that score?

Well, I've sort of been letting it slide, so maybe that's not the best thing to go with for right now. How about go ahead with one more edition with something else, and I'll really get cracking on it? In the meantime, I'm loving the idea of Quotes.

We might want to hold off on anything just for a bit though until things stabilize around here. I dunno what's going on, but the last couple of days, I get time-out errors much of the time when I try to access the site, and I get the feeling I'm not the only one.

Yay for Al-Cid... saw it coming from miles.

Anyway, I actually prefer Monsters or Rare Game. You HAVE to do Rare Game at some point, there are 80 so it divides evenly down to 5 where something can be figured out, and they almost ALL have their own little gimmick making a lot of them votable on certain factors which are completely different. But if you don't wanna do that ever, well, let me know when your done running this or wanna take a break and I'll do it. :P It HAS to be done...

Mind you by monsters I actually mean monster species, not seperate monsters. Like, bats, toads, snakes, liches, slavens, mimics, malboros... etc.

Ceidwad

Zak, I'll probably do a rumble at some point with the most popular monsters/Rare Game in the game, rather than all of them seperately. If we did a rumble with all the Rare Game or monsters, I doubt it would be popular enough to attain enough votes to justify itself. So maybe 32 of the most popular monsters or Rare Game. Bear in mind we still have other categories we haven't done yet, and I want to get a good spread in the Champion of Champions edition at the end, which will either comprise eight editions (we're on number six right now) for 32 contestants, or sixteen for 64.

As far as this rumble is concerned.......I'll probably leave nominating at least a few more days, as Agent said, since the site is very slow at the moment and thus plenty of regulars may not be logging on.

OK, I've left it long enough now. Looks like we're doing quotes, which is fine by me. An elimination round here is obviously out of the question (I'm not going to eliminate over 90% of the entire script) so it'll be individual nominations for this one. We'll start on the assumption of 16 entrants, but if there are enough good ideas I'll bump that number up to 32.

The full game script can be found here (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/459841/46279), for those of you who have ideas but can't remember the full text of the quote you have in mind. I'll update at a later date with my nominations.

Guys, I should probably say this now, (and wolfmaster I'm not attacking you because you didn't know this) but I do ask that when you nominate a quote you put it in its context and with a title, as is done in other quotes rumbles (remember you can find a link to the game script above). So with wolfmaster's examples, it would be something like this:

What is it you're after, Balthier?

Basch: And what is it you’re after, Balthier? You’re a welcome hand, and a
great aid, but why?

Balthier: Worried I’m out to steal the Nethicite, eh? Can’t say I’m
unaccustomed to people doubting my intentions. Nothing could be further from my
mind. Shall I swear by your sword or some such?

Basch: Apologies. But I needed to know where you stand. Her Majesty depends on
you. And you seemed to have an interest in the stone.

Balthier: I’m only here to see how the story unfolds. Any self-respecting
leading man would do the same.

Surrender Without Terms

Ondore: To make Resistance would serve no End. With this foremost in my Thoughts, I, to the People of Dalmasca: “Sons and Daughters of Dalmasca, I big you lay down your Arms. Raise Songs of Prayer in their Stead. Prayer for His Majesty King Raminas, ever merciful. A Man devoted wholly to Peace. Prayer, too, for the noble Princess Ashe, who, wrought with Grief at her Kingdom’s Defeat, has taken her own Life. Know also that Capt. Basch fon Ronsenburg, for Incitement of Sedition and the Assassination of H.R.M. King Raminas, has been found Guilty of High Treason and put to his Death. They who at this late Hour choose still the Sword are cut of the same Cloth as the Capt.: Traitors who would have lead Dalmasca to her Ruin.” Dalmasca’s Surrender without Terms was soon to follow. Memoirs of Mqs Halim Ondore, Chapter 13: The Province of Allies

All Hail Vaan!

Penelo: This place has changed so much. It’s like it’s not even Rabanastre anymore. Like the Empire is swallowing it whole.

Vaan: Hey, Penelo. That fete tonight. You think they’ll let us in?

Penelo: Are you crazy? It’s in the palace, and we don’t have an invitation, if you hadn’t noticed.

Vaan: So… How are we getting in?

Penelo: As if I’d know. Why not ask Migelo to get you in? Or go see Old Dalan in Lowtown. Why the sudden interest, Vaan?

Vaan: I told you! I’m going to take back what’s ours! Give back to Dalmasca. C’mon, what do you think? If I find something, and it fetches a good price, how ‘bout I, uh…I buy you all dinner!

Penelo: Oh please! You know as well as I do the first thing you’d buy is an airship! All Hail Vaan, Sky Pirate of Dalmasca! It’s got a nice ring to it! Stay outta trouble!

Resistance, Not Insurgence

Vaan: (regarding "Amalia") What’s wrong with her?

Balthier: Urgh. You have a lot to learn before we even get started on your thievery.

Vaan: What’s that mean?

"Amalia": The situation requires I accept such help as I find. Thought it be from thieves. I shall accompany you until we find my companions. No longer.

Balthier: Let’s think of her as a “Guest”, then. Unlike Fran or myself, our “Guest” probably won’t be taking orders from anyone anytime soon. And she’ll leave when she pleases. So, we keep to our affairs, and she to hers. I doubt we’ll find her wanting in valor… Being such an upstanding member of the insurgence.

"Amalia": Resistance.

I'm Captain Basch!

Balthier: (regarding Ondore) The men he's been funding bear little love for the Empire. (to Basch) They won't be thrilled to discover that rumors of your death were, in fact, greatly exaggerated. If we were to raise a clamor to that effect, we might just get their attention.

Vaan: Nothin' to it! I'll just go around town spreading the word. How 'bout this? I'm Captain Basch Fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca! Well? Whaddaya think?

Balthier: That certainly qualifies as a clamor. All right, Vaan, get to it. For the girl's sake, eh? Oh, and the more people around to witness your little performance, the better. If we're going to reach the Marquis, it's up to you. We'll be waiting here, if you need us.

Dalmasca's Desert Bloom

Larsa: This is the man I wanted you to meet. Believe it or not, he is a member of the noble House Margrace, rulers of the Rozarrian Empire.

Al-Cid: (approaching Ashe) Hah! I am but one of very, very many. Try as I might, I could not stop this war alone…thus I came seeking Larsa’s assistance. Al-Cid Margrace, at your service. To think I stand before the Lady Ashe. It is truly an honor. (tries to kiss Ashe's hand) I see it is true after all. Ah, stunning is Dalmasca’s desert bloom.

Larsa: Errh!

The Reins of History

Cid: Ashelia B’nargin Dalmasca! Just how far will you go for power? Does your lust for Nethicite consume you?

Ashe: (gasps)

Cid: Am I right? I am, aren’t I. A worthy daughter of the Dynast-King! You would do well to go to Giruvegan. Who knows? You may receive a new Stone for your trouble.

Ashe: Your words mean nothing to me!

Cid: The reins of History back in the hands of Man. I too make for Giruvegan. Give chase, if you dare it! (flies away on a hover drone)

Balthier: Hate it when he does that.

wolfmaster913

Ok, thanks for telling me how to do it. I will attempt to make further nominations correctly.

Lord Larsa is no puppet

Drace: Lord Larsa has left for Bur-Omisace. He hopes to enlist the aid of the
Gran Kiltias in stopping the insurgents. I doubt this will be enough to deter
Ondore…but even a slight hinderance to his operations would be welcome. This
will delay the Rozarrian invasion…and we will have bought much-needed time to
shore up our defenses.

Gabranth: Just as His Excellency had hoped.

Drace: No matter the result, I am pleased with the young Lord’s progress. I can
already see the stunned faces of those mud-witted Senators. The fools think a
child Emperor’s strings easy to pull from the shadows… But they will find that
Lord Larsa is no puppet.

Gabranth: Yes. The Senators would be most pleased with a puppet for an Emperor.
Recall, Drace, how the Senate fears and despises Lord Vayne’s ability? When
they realize the truth, that Lord Larsa is no docile lamb to be shepherded…
They will bear their teeth and devour him.

Good response so far. I'll chip in a few of my own here.

Wise Old Dalan

Dalan: Come for a tip on how to skewer something bigger and in armor? By the
East Gate?

Vaan: What, you already heard about that?

Dalan: Wise I may not be, but well-informed I am.

I Daresay I've Soiled My Cuffs

Balthier: Insurgents. Most like they thought to take advantage of a lax watch
while the fetes on. To feed the good consul a length of steel for his supper.
I should think Vayne used to such hospitality. Clever. He used himself as the
bait to draw them near, and then sent in the Air Brigade. A fine, bloody
banquet.

Balthier: Hmph. I daresay Ive soiled my cuffs. If a dungeons waiting for us
at the end of the night, it had best have a chance of wardrobe.

The Brothers Match Wits

Judge Gabranth: You have grown very thin, Basch.

Judge Gabranth: Less than a shadow. Less than a man. Sentenced to death and yet you
live. Why?

Basch: To silence Ondore. How many times must I say it?

Judge Gabranth: Is that all?

Basch: Why not ask Vayne himself? Is he not one of your masters?

Judge Gabranth: Ehh! Weve caught a leader of the insurgence. She is being brought from
Rabanastre. The woman Amalia. Who could that be?

Basch:

Judge Gabranth: Such a faithful hound to cling so to a fallen kingdom.

Basch: Better than throwing it away.

Judge Gabranth: Throwing it away? As you threw away our homeland?

You're going to go to her aid, and that's that!

Balthier: As I said, a misunderstanding.

Migelo: Misunderstanding!? What I am understanding is they took Penelo because
of you!

Vaan: What? What about Penelo?

Migelo: Oh, Vaan! Theyve taken Penelo! And there was a notea note for this
Balthier! Come to the Bhujerba Mines, it said.

Fran: Its BaGamnan. He was in Nalbina.

Migelo: If anything were to happen to that sweet childwhy, Ive her parents
memory to consider! Youre going to go to her aid, and thats that! Its what
you Sky Pirates do, isnt it?

You Can Never Know Another

Balthier: Empires parade down city streets, while refugees walk barefoot

Some of the quotes in this thread if they haven't already been mentioned... (Thread 52076)

The Death of Lord Rossler

Ondore: The Death of Lord Rasler Heios Nabradia was but one of many Tragedies to befall
the Kingdom of Dalmasca.

The Air of Hope that had surrounded H.R.H. Princess Ashes Wedding was now
quite lost: Dalmasca had been set adrift at the Mercy of Historys restless
Tides.

At this Time, two Great Empires struggled for Dominion over Ivalice: Archadia
in the East, Rozarria the West.

The Invasion of the Kingdom of Nabradia was Archadias first Step in its
westward March.

With Lord Raslers beloved Homeland consumed by the Hell-Fires of War, it
seemed clear that Archadia would soon mete out a like Fate to Dalmasca.

The Fall of the Fortress at Nalbina tolled the Destruction of the greater part
of Dalmascas Forces.

A Counter-Attack was mounted by the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca, ever
Brave and Faithful, but against the martial Might of the Archadian Armies, they
stood little Chance of Victory.

Indeed, their defeat was to be absolute.

Soon thereafter, Archadia came forward offering Terms of Peace. Or, as one
might rather put it, Terms of Dalmascas Surrender.

Lord Raminas, King of Dalmasca-and my Dear Friend - had no Choice but to accept
these Terms. It was, thus, only with Reluctance that He set out for Nalbina
Fortress - now under Archadian Occupation to affix His Seal to the Emperors
Treaty of Peace.

The King had scarce departed His Royal City of Rabanastre when the Remnants of
the Order made their Return. And not a Moment too soon, for a terrible
Revelation awaited them.

The Treaty would be signed with Steel and Writ in royal Blood.

Believe What You Want To

Balthier: A twin brother? Fancy that. Hmm. But still, the pieces fit. Ill give
you that much. And he did look like you.

[The camera shows Vaan who faces away from Basch in anger.]

Vaan: I dont believe you.

Basch: Of course not. It was my fault that Reks was there. I am sorry.

Vaan: (to Basch and clenching his fist in sadness) My brother, he trusted you.
He trusted you, and he lost everything. How can I believe you?

Basch: (stands up) Not me then. Believe in your brother. He was a fine soldier.
He fought to the last to protect his homeland. No. Surely he fought to protect
his brother.

Vaan: (faces Basch in anger) You dont know anything!

Balthier: (to Vaan) Believe what you want to. Whatever it takes to make you
happy. (walking away) Whats done is done.

Balthier: Empires parade down city streets, while refugees walk barefoot

Larsa: And so I sue for peace to stop short war and ease their suffering. My

Balthier: Will he now? You sound sure of yourself. You can never know another,

Vaan: Dont take it the wrong way, okay?

Larsa:

Knocking On The Front Gates

Vaan: Hey, you sure this rabbit holes really the way into Archades?

Balthier: Better a hare unseen than a rat in a trap. Then again, if youd
prefer to go knocking on the front gates of the city, be my guest.

Bones/Treasure/Fall

Bald Man: Cid! You know Deifacted Nethicite brought down the Leviathan! How can
you persist in this folly?

Cid: Heh, heh, heh, heh. And youve come here to stop me? Id fain see you try.

Voice of Balthier: Consider your bones, old man. Youre outmatched.

Cid: Pirate scum of the skies. What brings you here?

Balthier: Treasure. What else would a pirate want? Well take the Dusk Shard.

Cid: Heh! Youve come all this way for that trinket? I thought you above this.
Hm? Whats that?

Cid: Ah! The Princess of Dalmasca come to visit? Mm. Shes not entirely without
merit. A test of sorts for our princess? Ah!

Ashe: Youre a babbling fool.

Cid: (out loud) A trial for Ashelia Bnargin Dalmasca! (normal tone of voice)
You lust for the Stones power, do you not?

[Cid can be seen with a grin on his face as Ashe sighs in anger.]

Bald Man: Lend him not your ears, mlady. He means to use you.

Cid: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!

Fran: Manufacted Nethicite! Like Bergan.

Balthier: How could you do this? How could you fall this far?

Eh that's about it...

Haha, I like that one Slavka. I'll start my list with another one of Vaan's faux pas'.

Note* I'll edit this post with more as I think of them. Also, Ceidwad, do you want us to explain where abouts in the game they are from?

I do not sleep. I dream.

Vaan: Is he sleeping?

Ashe: Shh!

Anastasis: No, my child..

Vaan: Whoa!

Anastasis: I do not sleep. I dream. For reality and Illusion are a duality, two parts of a whole. Only the mirror of dreams reflects what is true.

Keep your snout in the trough where it belongs

Ba'Gamnan:You kept us waiting, Balthier! You slipped away in Nalbina. We missed you! First the Judge, and now this boy. The whole affair has the smell of money. I may have to wet my beak a little.

Balthier: Keep your snout in the trough where it belongs. This thinking ill befits you Ba'Gamnan.

Ba'Gamnan: Balthier! Ahh..Too long have I come unpaid! I'll carve my bounty out of that boy!

Vaan: Where's Penelo? We're taking her back!

Ba'Gamnan: The girl? Why keep the bait when you've landed the fish? We cut her loose on the way here and then she ran, crying like a babe!

The Party Enter The Imperial City Of Archades

Penelo: Youre gaping like a fish out of water.

Vaan: Im just checking out the city. Even if it is the Empire.

Penelo: Youve changed, Vaan. You were always marching to your own beat Almost like you were impatient, even. In a good way.

Vaan: Maybe its because Ive seen more now. Huh. Never imagined Id ever come this far away from home. Hey, Larsas here in the city, isnt he? Hes a tough one. I wonder how hes doing.

Penelo: You always were a soft touch, Vaan. You know whats amazing? I thought Id go my whole life without...meeting people like the Princess, or Lord Larsa. And here we are in the capital!

Vaan: I know! Its a little over my head sometimes.

Basch: Good, Vaan. Youve come to understand the difficulties of serving royalty.

Vaan: Hey, Im just along for the ride.

Penelo: That wasnt a complaint, was it, Basch?

Basch: Ahem. Right. Lets get moving.

Penelo: Hey, dont change the subject!

Basch: Right.

Close enough for fisticuffs

Vaan: So, this Jules...is he some old friend of yours, Balthier? You two seemed...close.

Balthier: Close enough for fisticuffs..Driver! Faster, if you please. I would be loathe to expend any of the violence of my present mood on my companions.

Cabbie: S-Sir? Yes, sir!

Beyond Your Ken!

Larsa: Restore Dalmasca’s sovereignty, and make our amends with Lady Ashe. It is the only way to avert war.

Vayne: It is a war of necessity. Your Lady Ashe herself is bent on it. She desires it above all else. She will not rest until her revenge is full-wrought.

Larsa: I fear you misread her intent. She would sooner shun war than embrace it.

Vayne: You are young, Larsa.

Larsa: And you presume beyond your ken!

Some of the quotes in this thread if they haven't already been mentioned... (Thread 52076)
:) Ah, yes. It would seem that many of the ones I've posted are ones that I originally posted in that thread a while back. I guess I'm good at remembering my taste in quotes. :D I'll add this one, though:

Some 'Eynah', Or Was it 'Venat'?

Balthier: Use its power to restore Dalmasca—something like that? The best intentions invite the worst kind of trouble.

Ashe: Lusting for ever greater power, blinded by the Nethicite. Is that how you see me?

Balthier: That does sound like someone I know. He was obsessed with Nethicite. It was all he cared about. He’d babble nonsense, blind to aught but the Stone’s power. He’d talk about some ‘Eynah,’ or was it ‘Venat’? No matter. Everything he did, he did to get closer to the Nethicite, to understand it. He made airships, weapons… He even made me a Judge.

Ashe: You were a…a Judge!?

Balthier: Part of a past I’d rather forget. It didn’t last long. I ran. I left the Judges…and him. Cidolfus Demen Bunansa. Draklor Laboratory’s very own Doctor Cid. That’s when he lost his heart to Nethicite, lost himself. And I suppose that’s when I lost my father. Don’t follow in his footsteps. I ran away. I couldn’t stand seeing him like that, a slave to the Stone. So I ran. Free at last. Funny I went for the Dusk Shard. How could I have known that it was Nethicite? And then, of course, I met you. All that running, and I got nowhere. It’s time to end this—cut my ties to the past.

We have 28 so far, so we've nearly reached the 32 which I think is a suitable number for this rumble. I'm keen to get on with this, so as soon as we hit 32 I'll close the nominations. If there are some quotes you really want to see in the finals, now is your chance to get them in.

Also, Flux, you do not need to explain where the quotes are found in the game. For the most part I know, and will mention briefly in the description of each quote myself.

Unwelcome, Unsought GuestVaan: What is it?

Fran: The Jungle denies us our passage.

Ashe: What have we done?

Fran: We? No. I.

[As Fran walks away from the scene…]

Vaan: (puzzled) What’s that mean? How’re we supposed to get through that?

[Fran walks away as Balthier follows her.]

Balthier: Making an appearance?

Fran: I am.

Vaan: [Vaan tries to speak to Fran and she and Balthier walk away.] Come on I'm talking over here! Hey!

Balthier: I thought you’d left for good.

Fran: Our choices are few.

Vaan: (tries to get Fran and Balthier’s attention) Balthier…

Fran: (to Balthier) This is as much for you as it is me.

Balthier: Oh?

Fran: You are ill at ease. The Nethicite troubles you? You’ve let your eyes
betray your heart.

Balthier: Right.

Vaan: (puzzled) What are you doing?

Fran: Soon you will learn.

Vaan: Whoa!

Fran: We go to seek aid of the Viera who dwell ahead.

Penelo: I bet they’ll be glad to see you after so long.

Fran: I am unwelcome. An unsought guest in their wood.

That I be considered worthy

Raminas: Secure Nalbina with all haste.

Basch: I will go.

Rasler: And I will go at his side.

[Later, the camera switches to the outer part of the castle where King Raminas
gives a sword to Lord Rasler as he kneels.]

Raminas: Galtea stand watch over your life.

[King Raminas gave Lord Rasler a sword.]

Rasler: That I be considered worthy.

Gods know, he deserves it

Rikken: Blast the sea! Blast the water! Blast it all! I don't believe he's
gone... He's Reddas... How could he die?

Elza: Hadn't you noticed? He'd been searching for a place to die all along.

Raz: Lord Reddas weren't the sort of man to run away from his problems by
dyin'! He weren't! How could he abandon this town!?

Elza: (to Raz) You'd have him regret passing? You'd have him suffer and wail
for eternity…?

Raz: Th-That's not what I meant… No, if he's gone, then he should rest in
peace. Gods know, he deserves it.

Bahamut, Lord of the Sky

Basch: Vayne holds the Dusk Shard no longer. His advantage is lost.

Al-Cid: Vayne has advantages enough. He stands in higher ground, and my birds
tell me he has awoken something quite large. (takes his sunglasses off to
reveal the eyes and then places it back on again) Bahamut, Lord of the Sky.
There was a stirring in the Mist near Ridorana, I am told. Bahamut awoke soon
after this.

Fran: It is the Mist that came before the Cryst was undone. It breathed life
into this Bahamut. If Reddas had not stopped it when he did, how much more mist
might it have drunk? All went according to Doctor Cid's designs.

Balthier: Yes, the man's last great accomplishment, I fear. And so it falls to
me to put an end to the thing.

Ceidwad

Epic spoiler alert there for wolfmaster's post with regard to Reddas. Not sure if I can/should include that particular quote in the rumble. It's pretty blatantly a major plot point, and this thread isn't tagged as possibly having spoilers.

wolfmaster913
12-18-2008, 04:30 PM
Oh crap, I didn't even think about it being a spoiler. Should I go back and remove it?

Ceidwad
12-18-2008, 09:21 PM
Please do. Actually - don't remove it, just use the [spoiler] tags and insert the quote within, and give it a less revealing title.

wolfmaster913
12-18-2008, 11:36 PM
There ya go. That shouldn't be too revealing.

Agent0042
12-19-2008, 03:18 AM
Spoilers are usually freely discussed in rumbles, even though none of the rumbles are actually spoiler-tagged. I suppose the spoiler tag can be kept on that if wanted, but I don't think it's required. I mean, when you think abvout it, sure, something like that is pretty spoilerific, but a lot of these quotes give away pretty specific plot points, and they're not being spoiler-tagged. So where is the line, really? I mean, when you think about it, having a quote out in the open that states that Cid is Balthier's father is just as revealing to somebody who hasn't played through the game.

Anyway, that is 32, right? So I guess we're good to go, then, just as soon as Ceidwad is ready to get things rolling.

Ceidwad
12-19-2008, 03:42 PM
Fair enough. I wasn't sure what the general spoiler ettiquette was in rumble threads so decided to err on the side of caution (and about the Cid/Balthier quotes, they must have slipped my mind). Anyway, wolfmaster, apologies for all this, you can actually probably remove the tags now.

I'll be started on this within the next few hours. Just need to get the fixtures sorted and we're good to go.

Edit: actually just noticed that Hawkeye posted a double of a quote I posted. We need one more, then.

wolfmaster913
12-19-2008, 06:01 PM
I will just leave the tags in for now since I see no need to go back and fix something that is 7 posts ago. It can just be put normally into the rumble if so desired. As for the final quote, how about this:

I want to fight

Basch: Think you can fight?

Reks: I’m fine, sir.

Basch: How old are you, Reks?

Reks: Seventeen, sir.

Basch: Young. Family?

Reks: My brother is all I have left, sir. He’s two years younger then I. Living
in Rabanastre.

Basch: So young.

[There was a brief pause.]

Basch: You’re barely old enough to be a man. You shouldn’t be forced to wield a sword.

Reks: No, sir. I want to fight. For my homeland and for my parents.

Ceidwad

Ceidwad
01-05-2009, 05:20 PM
OK, this will probably not be well recieved, but I may not update this for the next month or so as I'm back in university now and have exams starting in about 2 weeks, so will be spending most of my time revising.

I apologise for not having been on the Shrine much lately, hence lack of updating. I had tried a couple of times over the Christmas/New Year period but the server has been quite tempremental. Other than that I've largely been busy visiting the extended family and seeing old friends from high school.

During the next month anyone who wishes to temporarily take over the running of the rumble may do so freely, pending approval from Agent.

Ceidwad-- welcome back (as such.) I'd been wondering. All right, well, since all of the nominations were posted here in the thread, we have the material needed to get going. All we need is somebody to get it sorted out and start running things. Any volunteers?

It's Slavka's if nobody else wants it-- some updates are better than no updates, I suppose, provided they are at least done on a semi-regular basis. No less than once a week.

wolfmaster913
01-07-2009, 12:45 AM
Upon attending the "hardest" of the classes it seems that people simply can't be trusted for telling how hard a class will be. Given this, I can take over for a little bit until Ceidwad can return. That is, if no one else still wishes to do it.

Agent0042
01-07-2009, 05:44 AM
Right! So that's two people now who've said they're willing to do it "if no one else wants to." So here's how it's going to work. I'm giving this one more day, 24 hours, for anyone else to ask after the job. After that, it's either Slavka's or wolfmaster's and here's how it's going to work. You each PM me and give me an honest assessment of how often you think you can update, and I'll make the decision based on that.

Slavka

"Amalia": Resistance.

Balthier: Insurgents. Most like they thought to take advantage of a lax watch
while the fete’s on. …To feed the good consul a length of steel for his supper.
I should think Vayne used to such hospitality. Clever. He used himself as the
bait to draw them near, and then sent in the Air Brigade. A fine, bloody
banquet.

Balthier: Hmph. I daresay I’ve soiled my cuffs. If a dungeon’s waiting for us
at the end of the night, it had best have a chance of wardrobe.

<font size="4">
The Death of Lord Rossler</font>

Ondore: The Death of Lord Rasler Heios Nabradia was but one of many Tragedies to befall
the Kingdom of Dalmasca.

The Air of Hope that had surrounded H.R.H. Princess Ashe’s Wedding was now
quite lost: Dalmasca had been set adrift at the Mercy of History’s restless
Tides.

At this Time, two Great Empires struggled for Dominion over Ivalice: Archadia
in the East, Rozarria the West.

The Invasion of the Kingdom of Nabradia was Archadia’s first Step in its
westward March.

With Lord Rasler’s beloved Homeland consumed by the Hell-Fires of War, it
seemed clear that Archadia would soon mete out a like Fate to Dalmasca.

The Fall of the Fortress at Nalbina tolled the Destruction of the greater part
of Dalmasca’s Forces.

Or, as one
might rather put it, Terms of Dalmasca’s Surrender.

Lord Raminas, King of Dalmasca-and my Dear Friend - had no Choice but to accept
these Terms. It was, thus, only with Reluctance that He set out for Nalbina
Fortress - now under Archadian Occupation – to affix His Seal to the Emperor’s
Treaty of Peace.

The King had scarce departed His Royal City of Rabanastre when the Remnants of
the Order made their Return. And not a Moment too soon, for a terrible
Revelation awaited them.

The Treaty would be signed with Steel and Writ in royal Blood.

Hey guys, been having some problems with internet access the past few days, so apologies for the short delay. Anyway, glad to be back and here goes with the next battle:

Surrender Without Terms

Ondore: To make Resistance would serve no End. With this foremost in my Thoughts, I, to the People of Dalmasca: Sons and Daughters of Dalmasca, I big you lay down your Arms. Raise Songs of Prayer in their Stead. Prayer for His Majesty King Raminas, ever merciful. A Man devoted wholly to Peace. Prayer, too, for the noble Princess Ashe, who, wrought with Grief at her Kingdoms Defeat, has taken her own Life. Know also that Capt. Basch fon Ronsenburg, for Incitement of Sedition and the Assassination of H.R.M. King Raminas, has been found Guilty of High Treason and put to his Death. They who at this late Hour choose still the Sword are cut of the same Cloth as the Capt.: Traitors who would have lead Dalmasca to her Ruin. Dalmascas Surrender without Terms was soon to follow. Memoirs of Mqs Halim Ondore, Chapter 13: The Province of Allies

vs.

Some 'Eynah', Or Was it 'Venat'?

Balthier: Use its power to restore Dalmascasomething like that? The best intentions invite the worst kind of trouble.

Ashe: Lusting for ever greater power, blinded by the Nethicite. Is that how you see me?

Balthier: That does sound like someone I know. He was obsessed with Nethicite. It was all he cared about. Hed babble nonsense, blind to aught but the Stones power. Hed talk about some Eynah, or was it Venat? No matter. Everything he did, he did to get closer to the Nethicite, to understand it. He made airships, weapons He even made me a Judge.

Ashe: You were aa Judge!?

Balthier: Part of a past Id rather forget. It didnt last long. I ran. I left the Judgesand him. Cidolfus Demen Bunansa. Draklor Laboratorys very own Doctor Cid. Thats when he lost his heart to Nethicite, lost himself. And I suppose thats when I lost my father. Dont follow in his footsteps. I ran away. I couldnt stand seeing him like that, a slave to the Stone. So I ran. Free at last. Funny I went for the Dusk Shard. How could I have known that it was Nethicite? And then, of course, I met you. All that running, and I got nowhere. Its time to end thiscut my ties to the past.

Luckily, I remember the results. The Leading Man Never Dies beat Beyond Your Ken! 6-5 after sudden death, and Bones/Treasure/Fall beat Unwelcome, Unsought Guest 7-0.

However, I don't remember where we were in the voting for Believe What You Want To vs. Lord Larsa is no Puppet, so I'd ask everyone to vote again on that one, if you don't mind.

I'll get things going again, I recall voting for Believe What You Want To.

Believe What You Want To. I like Larsa, but the other one wasn't even anything about Larsa himself actually speaking and thought "Believe What You Want To" was better.

Believe What You Want To, I'm pretty sure that was the one I voted for first time round.

OK, I think we're done here. Believe What You Want To beats Lord Larsa is No Puppet 7-1.

Now on to our final match-up of the round:

Knocking On The Front Gates

Vaan: … Hey, you sure this rabbit hole’s really the way into Archades?

Balthier: Better a hare unseen than a rat in a trap. Then again, if you’d
prefer to go knocking on the front gates of the city, be my guest.

vs.

You Can Never Know Another

Balthier: Empires parade down city streets, while refugees walk barefoot
through the snow.

Larsa: And so I sue for peace to stop short war and ease their suffering. My
father will choose peace.

Balthier: Will he now? You sound sure of yourself. You can never know another,
even your father.

Knocking on the Front Gates 1-8 You Can Never Know Another

That one ended up in a bit of hammering for Balthier's eloquent rebuttal to Vaan, but another of Balthier's quotes prospers at its expense. You Can Never Know Another goes through.

And that's that for the first round. I'll update in a couple of days, in the meantime feel free to suggest stuff you'd like to see changed in later rounds (if anything).

Ceidwad has been inactive for over three weeks-- does somebody else want to continue the rumble?

Sadly, I am having my entire bathroom redone. Thus, I will have to stay at a place without internet for all of next week. If no one has picked it up by next weekend, I will gladly continue it.

wolfmaster -- you've only been on the site for a little more than a year and have only have a little less than 200 posts. Still, I assume we can count on you?

Rightio, Ceidwad's gone AWOL, Wolfmaster now seems to be gone as well. Fine. I'll take over starting tomorrow and will continue until the end of the edition, unless somebody else is serious about taking over, in which case, let me know. Otherwise, this rumble will end at the end of the current edition.

Get ready for the next round, starting tomorrow!

I might, it depends on the subject.

You finish this one, though. I don't like starting in the middle.

I could take over now and start over with a new category, if that's okay with anyone?
