I'm suprised everyone is voting for the flowering cactoid. I found it to be a dull and easy hunt. Atleast the gil snapper took a little bit of a challenge to kill and it was located where you find the feather of the flock which was conveniant.

Gil Snapper 3-8 Flowering Cactoid

Not a particularly close contest there. Flowering Cactoid marches/waddles on.

Next up:

Vorpal Bunny - Rank III

Hunted in the Golmore Jungle. It prefers to run away rather than fight, which can be surprisingly diffcult to overcome since it will aggro many other monsters in the process. Won a landslide 8-0 victory in Round 1, against Wyvern Lord.

vs.

Overlord - Rank VI

The Insecure Seeq helps you out in battle against this club-wielding Headless. Usually, he gets killed, too, at least whenever I've tried it. The Overlord is characterised by overwhelmingly strong physical attacks. Came through Round 1 by beating Lindwyrm 8-1.

Next battle:

One of those I've yet to battle, unfortunately. However, it certainly proved popular in Round 1, winning 8-2 against White Mousse.

vs.

Gilgamesh - Rank VII

Another I've yet to fight, so I won't be voting in this one. Many, however, make him favourite to win the entire rumble, which is praise indeed. Won against Yiazmat by 6-1 in the first round.

Gilgamesh cements his status as rumble favourite with a fine win over the popular Deathgaze.

Next battle:

Ixtab - Rank II

Fought in the Henne Mines; will only appear if your MP bars are full. Has numerous attacks that affect your MP, making it an annoying battle. Progressed through the first round at the expense of Enkelados, edging a close battle 6-5 after sudden death.

vs.

Wild Malboro - Rank VI

It's a Malboro that's wild. Starts with several Malboro minions and uses the numerous status-inducing attacks typical of Malboros. First round result: won 7-2 against Fafnir.

Next battle:

Trickster - Rank V

I've yet to battle it so can't comment. However it certainly proved popular in round one, practically wiping the floor with Catoblepas 9-1.

vs.

Behemoth King - Rank VII

Haven't fought BK either, so will abstain from voting, but I assume it uses all the standard behemoth attacks, mostly physical. Won by a more modest 4-3 in the first round, against Nidhogg.

Behemoth King. Him and Fafnir rock 'da house. And it isn't so hard to get BK to appear, you just have to get the chain going of the five mandragoras. After killing everything in both zones (Ice field/Field of clearsight?) they'll appear once and then you don't have to kill everything again just zone out and back in to keep the chain going twelve times.

Cluckatrice, please. One of the more significant battles in the game for me. Fought it at a much earlier stage than one is 'supposed' to, and because I forced myself to compete, I discovered many neat tactics that I'd go on to use to my advantage in future heated battles.

Here I also learned some differences between wait and active modes which made me change my whole outlook on battle in the game.

All of this could have happened against any tough opponent, I suppose, but Cluckatrice happened at the right place and time for me. This was also good practice for me for tough battles with multiple enemies. After the smoke cleared, I was far more prepared for groups of foes than before.

Rogue Tomato's just a typical brainless introductory battle. Nothing special.

vs.

Flowering Cactoid - Rank I

A Cactoid hunted in the Dalmasca Estersand. It's main 'attack' is to run away and aggro everything else on the screen. It also has a high physical defence and can use Potions, plus it will use 1000 Needles at HP Critical, thus making it very difficult if you undertake the hunt when it first becomes available. Won 10-5 against Vyraal in the first round, in the battle that drew the highest voter turnout in the rumble so far, and followed that up with an 8-3 triumph over Gil Snapper to give it a current tcs of 10.

Well, it is customary to bold votes but the main thing is that I can read them, and that purple font was certainly not helping in that regard. Bolding your vote makes it easier to pick it out of a longer post where someone explains their reasons but isn't absolutely necessary.

I didn't want to seem like a pedant, so that's why I didn't nag Zemener again.

Antlion 7-5 Flowering Cactoid

Despite taking the early lead, Flowering cactoid bows out, while Antlion moves onto the semi-finals.

Next up:

Trickster - Rank V

I've yet to battle it personally. However it certainly proved popular in round one, practically wiping the floor with Catoblepas 9-1. In round 2, it won by the slightly less emphatic scoreline of 8-4, against Behemoth King, giving it tcs of 12.

vs.

Wild Malboro - Rank VI

It's a Malboro that's wild. Starts with several Malboro minions and uses the numerous status-inducing attacks typical of Malboros. Previous results won 7-2 against Fafnir and 7-3 against Ixtab, giving tcs of 9.

Normally, in battles where I haven't fought one of the contestants, I'll vote for the other. However, it's getting into the business end now and it doesn't seem right for a contestant to lose simply because I haven't foguht it. So I'm abstaining from this battle and all future battles of a similar nature in this rumble.

Anyway,

Fight!

A surprisingly easy victory for Trickster there.

Moving on:

Gilgamesh - Rank VII

One that I haven't faced, but many make him favourite to win the entire rumble, which is praise indeed. Won against Yiazmat by 6-1 in the first round, and saw off the challenge of Deathgaze 7-3 in Round 2. Tcs 9.

vs.

Braegh - Rank IV

Fought in the Salikawood, generally uses Thunder-elemental attacks, if I remember correctly. Won 7-1 in Round 1, against Darksteel, and squeezed past Shadowseer 5-4 in Round 2. Tcs 7.

As in the last one, I'm abstaining, having not fought Gilgamesh.

Well, that's it for the quarter-finals. The semis will start either tomorrow or Tuesday, as I have a very long train journey tomorrow and frankly there's a good chance I won't be able to motivate myself to update the rumble.

Agent0042

Gilgamesh easily seems the most most pat and comfortable of the remaining choices to me. There are others I might have considered voting above Gilgamesh if they were still left in the battle, but they aren't. Specifically Shadowseer and Deathgaze.

So what's next? Ceidwad -- I'm probably not going to have the FMV information completely ready until the edition after this next one, at least. I really like the idea of doing quotes or music, though, but others may have their own thoughts.

Is there going to be a battle for third place too?

ThroneofOminous
03-02-2008, 05:05 PM
I think music would be great. However, if we are going to do music it might be to give people a few days notice, since it would probably require most people to 'obtain' a copy of the soundtrack.

Ceidwad
03-02-2008, 05:28 PM
Agent - The choices we have right now are:

Locations
Storyline bosses
Optional bosses & Espers
Weapons & Equipment
FMVs
Music
Quotes

To be honest, I think I'd prefer to leave quotes alone for now, and if the FMVs aren't ready that rules them out too. Music is a valid option, however, albeit a very complicated one. I think I'd prefer to do something simple like Locations for now, but that's just my view.

Also, I have some ideas in the pipeline for a Champion of Champions rumble later on this year, when we've done the other categories. That's part of the reason for the 3rd and 4th places (and yes, Agent, I will be doing those this time too) - those contestants will also qualify for the CoC rumble, and I have plans for seeding and a whole lot of other crap that's at an early stage of development right now. Anyway, imagine Gilgamesh going up against Montblanc, for example, or the Vorpal Bunny taking on Ashe. That's the general idea. A bit out there, but if you guys are interested it's definitely something I'd be willing to do.

Ceidwad

Alright. Finally, I can get this done. Very sorry for delays; I've been a lazy cunt.

First up then in the semi-finals:

Vorpal Bunny - Rank III

Hunted in the Golmore Jungle. It prefers to run away rather than fight, which can be surprisingly diffcult to overcome since it will aggro many other monsters in the process. Previous results: 8-0 against Wyvern Lord, 9-2 against Overlord and 8-5 against Rogue Tomato. Tcs: 18

vs.

Trickster - Rank V

A white chocobo hunted on Paramina Rift. Previous results: 9-1 vs. Catoblepas, 8-4 vs. Behemoth King and 8-1 against Wild Malboro. Tcs: 19.

So, Trickster has a slight advantage. I'm hoping for a good one as we start the semis.

Trickster moves on to the final, where it will meet the winner of these two:

Antlion - Rank V

A mantis-type creature that attacks quickly and can also Cannibalise to grow stronger. Fought in the Lhusu Mines. Previous results: 8-3 vs. Bloodwing, 10-2 vs. Carrot, and 7-5 vs. Flowering Cactoid. Tcs: 15

vs.

Gilgamesh - Rank VII

Tipped by many to win the rumble. Previous results: 6-1 vs. Yiazmat, 7-3 vs. Deathgaze, and 7-1 vs. Braegh. Tcs: 15

A Google search reveals that Final Fantasy Tactics, which this game's world comes from, had a "Necrohol of Mullonde." I think we can assume it's a made-up word. Trickster may hold the edge, but Gilgamesh was the more interesting Mark. I've supported the white chocobo up to this point, but if you train your party reasonably well, it's not much a threat even when you first gain access to the hunt. And, plus, well of Gilgamesh's other advantages -- the music, getting the Genji equipment, etc. And just the fact that Gilgamesh is badass awesome.

And Trickster only has the higher TCS because it faced weaker/lamer opponents in its previous battles. Whereas look what Gilgamesh went against.

Well, for a brief moment it looked like Trickster was about to pull off a shock victory. But, as expected, Gilgamesh came through in the end to become our champion. Congrats to him.

Well, that's that for the marks rumble. We'll now have a couple of days for reaction, questions and votes for the next rumble.

Our options are:

Locations
Weapons, Armour and Equipment
Storyline bosses/Espers
Optional bosses/Espers
FMVs*
Music*
Quotes*

*FMVs, Music and quotes are likely to take more time to organise, so the rumbles won't be moving along as quickly as the ones we've done so far.

It's basically a free thread at the moment, but I'd still ask you not to post anything un-necessary, purely because it'll make counting the votes more awkward if I have tons of text in between votes.

Other than that thanks to everyone who voted in this rumble and hope to see you back for the next one.

I'm voting for Locations all the way here.

Also, I hinted before that I had some plans for future rumbles. The Champion of Champions idea is one. Another idea I recently had was a Tag Team competition. Basically, this teams up a pair contestants (they can be from any rumbles) against another pair. So, for example you might have Basch and Gilgamesh taking on Montblanc and Trickster. That's the general idea, anyway. It'll probably be done after the Champion of Champions rumble, which in turn will be done after all the 'normal' rumble categories have been done.

Also, guys can we all nominate one category only. Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my last post.

Welcome to the shrine, ramya. Although, I am surprised it has taken you over a year to make your first post.

Also, I've just realised we need to eliminate two more since I added Subterra and the Great Crystal. I'm going to re-structure the list. I'll try and do it in a way that disrupts others' lists as little as possible.

Edit: I've now done that. Most of you will want to change your lists.

All right, let me have a look here...

I add Old Archades and The Bahamut. My other choices remain the same.

Zak6009, you seem to have made the same mistake I did, before I deleted my original post. You appear to be voting for various locations. You're supposed to be voting to eliminate one from each of the sections.

Man we don't even get to see Nalbina Fortress so why is that on the list?? Yeah it's part of Nalbina and separate from Nalbina Town but that doesn't mean it's an accessible location like the rest of the locations on the list.
