IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!

After a very lengthy hiatus I'm glad to say I'm back in the saddle. However it should be noted that there are going to be major changes to my process when it comes to buying soundtracks. Here is a simple run down.

1 - Enclosure purchases will be RARE

Back when I first started doing this the money I was spending was almost an after thought every month. 300-400 dollars on music back then didn't seem so bad since I do live on my own in a cheap but nice apartment. Now looking back I almost wish I could take it all back. The thousands of dollars I poured into this were a sign of an unhealthy obsession due to my "gotta catch them all" mindset. The biggest problem of course was the enclosures. Spending over 60 for a soundtrack is simply not going to happen that much anymore guys. I know plenty of great soundtracks get this treatment but it's simply way to much for me at the end of the day. Again there will be a couple rare instances where I'll probably end up getting an enclosure soundtrack but don't expect/request them to often

2. No more Takanashi soundtracks

Zac seems to be covering the "Team-MAX" side of things at the moment. If he should ever have to step down from the helm I'm always willing to help but for now I'll leave things to him.

3. Composer bias/recommendations

As the years have gone on I have found myself slowly falling from anime. There was a time when I would watch every single show that aired (if it didn't suck donkey balls). Now I sometimes end up going 2 weeks without seeing a single episode of anything. I usually only watch stuff that is a sequel to something I liked previously (an example this season would be Haikyuu). So I'm generally in the dark about what's good soundtrack wise each season. That's why I tend to stick to composers that I personally like. People like Taku Iwasaki and anyone from MONACA are pretty much guarantee buys for me. So don't be surprised if you see a lot of the same people showing up in my uploads. However, considering that would likely reduce my upload rate by quite a bit I'm open to suggestions from anyone following the current anime seasons. I'll attempt to get a listen if I can when I'm not busy. Also don't suggest stuff from previous seasons , I want the recommendations to be current or in other words what is airing at the time.

4. Expect more video game soundtracks

Pretty simple. I've been getting more into gaming soundtracks as I've fallen from anime so I'll be getting those much more often than I used too.

5. Anime with no release dates won't be added

I will only add soundtracks to the list if they have a release date. Even if I plan on getting something it won't be added till I have conformation it's getting released at all. I'd rather not get people's hopes up for something that might never come.

6. Future Long Term Projects

These consist of large/expensive batches of OSTs that I plan to get during each year. I will occasionally give updates on them every few months. These projects are very expendable so if they disappear don't be surprised.

Annnnnnd that's pretty much it. Now enough blabbing, onto the release schedule! :P

Ah thanks for the info nextday. I'll probably pass on Kimi no Iru then. Importing a album that only has one song from the anime wouldn't really be worth it to me lol. I'll be sure to check out TWGOK though. Is there a specific episode where the music is excellent? Right now since i don't have my own internet I've been trying to catch up to everything i've been missing so i probably won't have the time to watch it properly =(.

Yeah, hopefully the Kimimachi character song album turns up though because I really liked Keiichi Oku's work on Yumekui Merry (such an excellent main theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoA2ZxTTDRI)).

I have no idea about TWGOK. I haven't actually watched the third season or OVAs yet but the first two seasons had some nice classical-style music from Hayato Matsuo.

I'm still holding on to a faint glimmer of hope that it'll be in an enclosure but it really wouldn't make sense if it was. Normally soundtracks are released pretty early on in enclosures if I'm not mistaken. The only people who this doesn't apply to is Aniplex and Media Factory from what I've seen. But 5 is my lucky number!

Titan sold like 70k copies so they announced the bonus soundtrack and included samples 10 weeks in advance. Crime Edge only sold like less than 500 copies so they probably don't really care about getting info out quickly for it.

P.S. If it gives you some hope, Pony Canyon released the soundtrack for Milky Holmes S1 in the last volume and Milky Holmes S2 in the last two volumes.

P.P.S. Hiroyuki Sawano was announced for Kill la Kill today and he already says there will be a soundtrack release (details, etc. later).

Selling that bad huh? I thought since they censored some stuff that would help bring in the sales better (kind of how to love-ru censors almost literally EVERYTHING so you are forced to buy the blueray pack to view it properly). I'd think the soundtrack would sell pretty good though. I mean Takanashi's name alone would sell the thing in my opinion :3.

I really hate it when a soundtrack is released in late enclosures. Just doesn't make any sense to me. By the time you finally get your hands on the thing you already forgot everything about it. Gah why can't every publisher be like Lantis? They are probably my favorite publisher so far because I've yet to run into a case where they didn't release a soundtrack properly (at least the soundtracks I'VE wanted). Such a cruel world :(.

P.S. This next anime season is looking hella stacked. Takanashi, Hiroyuki, Tatsuya, Akira, Masaru, Shiro and MORE! I can't wait ^_^.

The blu-rays do have changes but it wasn't one of those unwatchable shows (not a ton of censoring). I forget why it sold so poorly though. Manga readers were butthurt about something if I recall correctly.

Lantis is sort of different from the other publishers because they only do music. The other publishers do both music and video. Lantis would probably be doing enclosures too if they were an anime publisher in addition to being a music label. Also there have been times where they weren't able to publish a good soundtrack for various reasons (Break Blade, Nichijou).

And yeah, yeah. Next season looks pretty strong. And there's still a few not announced that might be interesting!

Future OST plans:

As you know the next season of great music is already upon us. I'm going to hold off on updating the thread for soundtracks of things currently running until I've seen everything first. One thing that should be noted is that there is a LOT of anime this season and unfortunately i probably won't be able to get everything in a timely manner as usual as i wish not to go bankrupt. Lots of shows this season are 2 cour (meaning they will go up to 24 episodes or more) so release dates will be kind of scarce. Even given these minor issues i am very excited to see what this season has to offer ^_^

So far I say Gaist Crusher (Kohei Tanaka, Takayuki Negishi) has the best music so far this season.

I also liked the music for Kyouso Giga (Go Shiina), Tokyo Ravens (Maiko Iuchi), Outbreak Company (Keiji Inai), Gingitsune (Tatsuya Kato), BlazBlue (Arte Refact) and Arpeggio of Blue Steel (Masato Kouda).

The only things I'm still look forward to are Galilei Donna and Valvrave which air tomorrow. I'm still not sure what to think about Sawano's music for Kill la Kill.

Needless to say it's as bombastic as ever and i love it. ^_^

It would seem that the Diabolik Lovers enclosures are not available through my usual vendors and can only be purchased on three japanese sites. I've tried to sign up for these sites but as you can guess it asks for things like japanese Zip codes and countries and seems to be unusable to people from different countries sadly. Unless some american friendly site is given authority to distribute the enclosures I cannot get them. If anyone possibly knows a work around for these sites please let me know. Her is the info.

For those of you wondering what exactly will be on the RWBY OST i managed to get the very generous composer to give me details on what would be included.
Here is his message:

"It is a 2-disc set, one of songs, the other of the score/soundtrack that you asked about. It's nearly 2 hours of music."
I for one am very glad we are getting a complete score of this internet series as there is some really good stuff all around.

Well i finally managed to preorder EVERYTHING in both November and December (with one exception being that I cannot order the RWBY CD until the release date). So everything will posted promptly on each osts respective release date and in some cases perhaps sooner. However since Dec, 25 items are on Christmas it's possible that i won't receive them until the 27th. By that date i will have to rip about 11 OSTs total in one day and honestly that would probably take up my ENTIRE day assuming i don't go to sleep. So I'll probably upload one half on the 27th and the other on the 28th. The most popular ones will get priority of course (like Kill la Kill :)).

Details: Attack on Titan was taken off due to the fact it is not a soundtrack CD but a BD/DVD disc. I already have limited space on my computer and ripping an entire BD would put me in an even worse hole. Just don't see it as overall worth it. Crime Edge was ordered from Amazon due to it not being sold by regular retailers. It most likely won't arrive until the following week around December 21st-25th. Considering I already have a million CDs to rip that week.........gah i'll be beat that's for sure. Might just take my vactation days during that week lol ^_^.

Blame the release company. They put soundtrack in the description for all the volumes (tentative).

Yeah it pisses me off that people can't be bothered to retag a soundtrack they got for free themselves but i'm tired of hearing complaints about it. Times are a bit rough for me at the moment so I'm dropping the most expensive and least important OSTs (at least to me) for now. Space Dandy: Random, Weird and truly mind blowing every episode. You could probably jump right into the second season and not miss anything xP
Haikyuu!!: My favorite sports anime this season. Great animation with loveable characters.
Barakamon: Simple heart warming slice of life anime. Also rather humorous at times.
Aldnoah.Zero: Straight up enjoyable mech series. Isn't incredibly original but keeps things moving at satisfying pace.
Zankyou no Terror: Psychological thriller. Has potential to be the best anime of the season
Tokyo Ghoul: Favorite show this season. Lots of good paced character development. There is a lot of gore but it isn't senseless in any way.

Cause My Bank thinks CDJapan is a Scam Website due to CDJapan being a Japan Location Website

Is there any news on the No Game No Life OST 1? I know it was released today but I was wondering if anyone can confirm the tracks on it?

You can just call your bank and ask them to override the block Tobi. After you make the order on Cdjapan it will tell you that your bank hasn't accepted the transaction. Call your bank to unblock the site and afterwards when cdjapan tries to charge your bank again (it does this automatically) it will be accepted.

I don't use anything else other than Cdjapan (because of their speedy delivery) so I couldn't be sure what else to recommend.

Great update i too seem to fall back on animes and just go with samples and if its ok i'll recommend them but so far the soundtracks listed are sure grabs like Yoshiaki Fujisawa, Taku Iwasaki, Tatsuya Kato and Go Sakabe i've been listen to more of the japans drama tv series of recently since they have been more or less up after a couple of days where has soundtracks such as closures are sure coming hard to get by.

Very true. The great thing about dramas is that they are very RARELY enclosure only. I was looking through all of Yuki Hayashi's drama CDs and he only has one out of 24 CDs that only come in an enclosure. Which awesome if your comparing to how often anime gets the enclosure treatment. The only problem is that I find it them difficult to find them sometimes. Retailers that sell Japanese stuff to Americans don't always have them which can make collecting really hard.

Yeah physical copy is usually nicer to have if you like to collect music etc.. I tried once to buy something from JiTunes and you need all kind of information. I just wish that they would sell more OST's separately instead of forcing to buy the blu-ray bundle to get the OST.. It's really hard to support the artist if you live outside of the Japan.. I'm from Finland so local stores only sells pretty much manga and that's all you can get so I have to say that the way they market anime is really bad.

I think that they really need to change the way they market anime and make it easier for the foreigners to buy anime.

Well honestly that's something that I don't will be fixed. Literally less than 5% of bd/sales that are purchased oversees make up the profit of an average anime show. While I'm sure many people want to support the anime studios directly by buying a japanese copy why would you want to buy a 60 dollar enclosure with only two damn episodes when you can just wait for an American publisher to release ALL the episodes for the same price? If you are familiar with Aniplex they distribute anime in america for roughly the SAME price they do in japan. This is how their releases come out faster. But you will see a BUT LOAD of people complaining about how retardedly high their prices are. Even so Aniplex likely gets away with it due to the fact the company has access to MANY hit titles like FMA, Sword Art Online, Naruto etc. so they aren't going to hurt that bad if something does terrible over here. Which is why they are pretty much the only company to do things that way instead of just giving it to another American distributor (though there are some exceptions like Naruto being given to Viz Media).

In the past they HAVE tried to lower prices by half but of course that means they would have to sell twice as many copies. Let's just say it didn't work out and they barely saw of overall copies to boot. So at this point they are just stuck appealing to niche crowds that GUARANTEE they will see some kind of profit (which is why you see so many bland harem/school shows these days) and even then you'll still see giant duds. The Hideaki Anno (guy who created Neon Genesis) even said that the days of anime are numbered to 5-20 more years. It doesn't help that animators even at GOOD studios make only a measly 1,000 bucks a month. You don't want to know how bad the quote "slave" studios are. Getting even 300 bucks a month is a god send. The industry will likely have to collapse for it to properly rebuild itself.

Yeah that makes sense.. I guess if you want to make money then anime isn't the best way to do that. Even big studio like ufotable had production issues during the last season so I can imagine how harsh things can be for the smaller studios.

I guess anime doesn't make that much money when it's being broadcast unlike for example in American everything is about the views. If the show doesn't get enough views it's not going to get renewed for the second season.

Not sure how much anime can make money during the commercial breaks..

For the record that OST comes out in June next week not July. And as I said I can't get anything in June due to my injury. Maybe if it doesn't turn up in early July I'll consider it. I love anything Taku does but even I have my limits.

They replaced Kato because Kato took over Love Live.

Oh, and I saw that the Battery soundtrack is only 46 minutes total... not sure if that matters to you.

Edit: btw have you seen those new CDJapan shipping prices? 2000yen for EMS now. I don't know how you afford it. I use Amazon.co.jp because they only charge 1050yen for their EMS (also because pre-order discounts).
