This soundtrack is eclectic and wonderful. This should have been Kill la Kill soundtrack. Not Sawano...
I am still holding back in seeing it because of the soundtrack. Why did Hiroyuki called Sawano for the music and Taku Iwasaki, as he did in Gurren Lagann? :(

Anyway, this electronic and still melodic (such great piano pieces) and.. also symphonic. Less symphonic, yes, but the overall album is just great, not tiring to hear and very bumpy to your hears. I love the addition of Scat in certain songs. I can't really name my favorite tracks, but... Grief, Blind spot, Noratan (Lotus juice rocks... kinda missed them), Family, Corollary, The One, Recollection, just to name a few.
It's totally worth all the pennies and coins and cents. Great Soundtrack as always. Taku Iwasaki has yet to come to disappoint me. :)

A drum loop from Gurren Lagann is also heard in the beginning of "Grief", albeit altered and stripped down.

That being said, even though Iwasaki-san kind of James Horner-ed himself a bit on this one, it's also clear he had a lot of fun. He got to use all of the modern pop/jazz/dubstep/rock elements he's been experimenting with in his last few scores on this one.

I also think this is the first score without live strings he has ever done; overall, this OST is pretty stripped down. The whole OST is just Iwasaki, his usual guitarist Tsuneo Imahori, and Hiromi Sano (who in Japan seems to be pretty famous) who plays both the saxophone and the clarinet. In a way, this is almost a jam session along with Iwasaki's usual vocal collaborators like Lotus Juice.

I do love that Iwasaki brought in an exotic instrument like the fujara though (and dared to play it himself). I never even heard of it until this OST. It sounds pretty interesting.

In general, this score reminds me of "The World Ends With You". It just feels like Iwasaki's interpretation of something like that.

Thank you for sharing this with us Leatherhead!
